Core-collapse supernova (CCSN) provides a unique astrophysical site for studying neutrino-matter interactions. Prior to the shock-breakout neutrino burst during the collapse of the iron core, a preshock $\nu_e$ burst arises from the electron capture of nuclei and it is sensitive to the low-energy coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CE$\nu$NS) which dominates the neutrino opacity. Since the CE$\nu$NS depends strongly on the non-standard neutrino interactions (NSI) which are completely beyond the standard model and yet to be determined, the detection of the preshock burst thus provides a clean way to extract the NSI information. Within the spherically symmetric general-relativistic hydrodynamic simulation for the CCSN, we investigate the NSI effects on the preshock burst. We find that the NSI can maximally enhance the peak luminosity of the preshock burst almost by a factor of three, reaching a value comparable with that of the shock-breakout burst. Future detection of the preshock burst will have critical implications on astrophysics, neutrino physics and physics beyond the standard model., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures. We derive a Cooper-Frye type spin polarization formula for Dirac fermions at local thermal equilibrium described by a grand canonical ensemble specified by temperature, fluid velocity, chemical potential, and spin potential. We discuss the physical meaning of different contributions to spin polarization and compare them with previous works. The {\it Principle of Maximum Conformality} (PMC), which generalizes the conventional Gell-Mann-Low method for scale-setting in perturbative QED to non-Abelian QCD, provides a rigorous method for achieving unambiguous scheme-independent, fixed-order predictions for physical observables consistent with the principles of the renormalization group. In addition to the original multi-scale-setting approach (PMCm), two variations of the PMC have been proposed to deal with ambiguities associated with the uncalculated higher order terms in the pQCD series, i.e. the single-scale-setting approach (PMCs) and the procedures based on ``intrinsic conformality" (PMC$_\infty$). In this paper, we will give a detailed comparison of these PMC approaches by comparing their predictions for three important quantities $R_{e^+e^-}$, $R_{\tau}$, and $\Gamma(H \to b \bar{b})$ up to four-loop pQCD corrections. The PMCs approach determines an overall effective running coupling $\alpha_s(Q)$ by the recursive use of the renormalization group equation, whose argument $Q$ represents the actual momentum flow of the process. Our numerical results show that the PMCs method, which involves a somewhat simpler analysis, can serve as a reliable substitute for the full multi-scale PMCm method, and that it leads to more precise pQCD predictions with small residual scale dependence., Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures, to be published in Nuclear Physics B

We make a detailed study on the properties of the total decay width of Higgs decay channel $H\to gg$ up to $\alpha_s^6$-order QCD corrections by using the newly suggested infinite-order scale-setting approach, which is based on the ideas of both the principle of maximum conformality and the intrinsic conformality. This approach is called as the PMC$_\infty$ approach. By using the PMC$_\infty$ approach, we observe that the conventional renormalization scale ambiguity in perturbative QCD calculation is eliminated and the residual scale dependence due to unknown higher-order terms can also be highly suppressed. We then obtain an accurate perturbative QCD prediction on the total decay width, e.g. $\Gamma (H \to gg)|_{\rm PMC_\infty} =336.42^{+7.01}_{-6.92}$ KeV, where the errors are squared averages of those from all the mentioned error sources., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, to be published in Chinese Physics C

Within the framework of Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model, we extract the global spin polarization of $\Lambda$ hyperon in $^{108}$Ag + $^{108}$Ag and $^{197}$Au + $^{197}$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 2.42 - 62.4$ GeV. We use two different approaches to calculate the $\Lambda$ polarization $P_y$: approach I is based on equilibrium assumption so that $P_y$ is determined by thermal vorticity and approach II assumes a proportional relation between $P_y$ and the system's angular momentum in $\Lambda$'s rest frame. We find that both approaches can describe the experimental data at low energies around a few GeV but only approach I describes well also higher-energy data. This suggests that at higher energies the relativistic effect plays an important role. Variational AutoEncoder (VAE) has been extended as a representative nonlinear method for collaborative filtering. However, the bottleneck of VAE lies in the softmax computation over all items, such that it takes linear costs in the number of items to compute the loss and gradient for optimization. This hinders the practical use due to millions of items in real-world scenarios. Importance sampling is an effective approximation method, based on which the sampled softmax has been derived. However, existing methods usually exploit the uniform or popularity sampler as proposal distributions, leading to a large bias of gradient estimation. To this end, we propose to decompose the inner-product-based softmax probability based on the inverted multi-index, leading to sublinear-time and highly accurate sampling. Based on the proposed proposals, we develop a fast Variational AutoEncoder (FastVAE) for collaborative filtering. FastVAE can outperform the state-of-the-art baselines in terms of both sampling quality and efficiency according to the experiments on three real-world datasets., Comment: 11 pages, WWW 2022

We study the global polarizations of $\Lambda$, $\Xi^-$, and $\Omega^-$ hyperons in noncentral Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=$ 7.7-200 GeV. We highlight the importance of effect of decay feeddown to the measured global polarization. With the decay contributions taken into account, the global polarization ordering $P_{\Omega^-} > P_{\Xi^-} > P_\Lambda$ can be naturally explained, which is consistent with the observation recently reported from the STAR experiment from Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV. We give an introduction to the phase structure of QCD matter under rotation based on effective four-fermion models. The effects of the magnetic field on the rotating QCD matter are also explored. Recent developments along these directions are overviewed, with special emphasis on the chiral phase transition. Using the second law of local thermodynamics and the first-order Palatini formalism, we formulate relativistic spin hydrodynamics for quantum field theories with Dirac fermions, such as QED and QCD, in a torsionful curved background. We work in a regime where spin density, which is assumed to relax much slower than other non-hydrodynamic modes, is treated as an independent degree of freedom in an extended hydrodynamic description. Spin hydrodynamics in our approach contains only three non-hydrodynamic modes corresponding to a spin vector, whose relaxation time is controlled by a new transport coefficient: the rotational viscosity. We study linear response theory and observe an interesting mode mixing phenomenon between the transverse shear and the spin density modes. We propose several field-theoretical ways to compute the spin relaxation time and the rotational viscosity, via the Green-Kubo formula based on retarded correlation functions., Comment: 35 pages, 2 figures, appendix added, published version

Individual tree detection and crown delineation (ITDD) are critical in forest inventory management and remote sensing based forest surveys are largely carried out through satellite images. However, most of these surveys only use 2D spectral information which normally has not enough clues for ITDD. To fully explore the satellite images, we propose a ITDD method using the orthophoto and digital surface model (DSM) derived from the multi-view satellite data. Our algorithm utilizes the top-hat morphological operation to efficiently extract the local maxima from DSM as treetops, and then feed them to a modi-fied superpixel segmentation that combines both 2D and 3D information for tree crown delineation. In subsequent steps, our method incorporates the biological characteristics of the crowns through plant allometric equation to falsify potential outliers. Experiments against manually marked tree plots on three representative regions have demonstrated promising results - the best overall detection accuracy can be 89%.

Bundle adjustment (BA) is a technique for refining sensor orientations of satellite images, while adjustment accuracy is correlated with feature matching results. Feature match-ing often contains high uncertainties in weak/repeat textures, while BA results are helpful in reducing these uncertainties. To compute more accurate orientations, this article incorpo-rates BA and feature matching in a unified framework and formulates the union as the optimization of a global energy function so that the solutions of the BA and feature matching are constrained with each other. To avoid a degeneracy in the optimization, we propose a comprised solution by breaking the optimization of the global energy function into two-step suboptimizations and compute the local minimums of each suboptimization in an incremental manner. Experiments on multi-view high-resolution satellite images show that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art orientation techniques with or without accurate least-squares matching.

Image-based 3D object modeling refers to the process of converting raw optical images to 3D digital representations of the objects. Very often, such models are desired to be dimensionally true, semantically labeled with photorealistic appearance (reality-based modeling). Laser scanning was deemed as the standard (and direct) way to obtaining highly accurate 3D measurements of objects, while one would have to abide the high acquisition cost and its unavailability on some of the platforms. Nowadays the image-based methods backboned by the recently developed advanced dense image matching algorithms and geo-referencing paradigms, are becoming the dominant approaches, due to its high flexibility, availability and low cost. The largely automated geometric processing of images in a 3D object reconstruction workflow, from ordered/unordered raw imagery to textured meshes, is becoming a critical part of the reality-based 3D modeling. This article summarizes the overall geometric processing workflow, with focuses on introducing the state-of-the-art methods of three major components of geometric processing: 1) geo-referencing; 2) Image dense matching 3) texture mapping. Finally, we will draw conclusions and share our outlooks of the topics discussed in this article.

Global spin polarization of hyperons is an important observable to probe the vorticity of the quark-gluon plasma produced in heavy-ion collisions. We calculate the global polarizations of $\Lambda$, $\Xi^-$, and $\Omega^-$ in Au+Au collisions at energies $\sqrt{s_\text{NN}}=$ 7.7--200 GeV based on a multiphase transport model. Our calculations suggest that their primary global polarizations fulfill $P_{\Omega^-}\simeq 5/3P_{\Xi^-}\simeq 5/3P_\Lambda$. We also estimate the feed-down effect of particle decay on the global polarization. With the feed-down effect taken into account, the global polarizations of $\Lambda$ and $\Xi^-$ are clearly separated, and the final global polarizations are in the ordering: $P_{\Omega^-}>P_{\Xi^-}>P_\Lambda$.
