Isospora basileuterusi Mello & Berto n. sp. is described based on material from the golden-crowned warbler Basileuterus culicivorus (Deppe) captured in the Itatiaia National Park (Parque Nacional do Itatiaia), a conservation unit in south-eastern Brazil. Oöcysts of the new species are ellipsoidal to ovoidal, measuring on average 25.2 × 21.1 μm, with a smooth, bi-layered wall, c.1.6 μm thick. Micropyle and oöcyst residuum are both absent, but one to three polar granules are present. Sporocysts are ellipsoidal to lemon-shaped, measuring on average 15.3 × 9.5 μm, with a knob-like Stieda body and a trapezoidal sub-Stieda body. Sporocyst residuum is present, usually as a body of membrane-bound granules. Sporozoites are vermiform, with refractile bodies. Four of the 19 warblers captured (21%) were infected with the new species. Molecular analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (cox1) gene revealed a similarity of 99.5% between the new species and Isospora serinuse Yang, Brice, Elliot & Ryan, 2015 from island canaries Serinus canaria (L.) in Western Australia. The oöcysts of I. basileuterusi n. sp. can be distinguished from the four other Isospora spp. recorded in hosts of the Parulidae, and from the molecularly most closely related species, by the typical ellipsoidal to lemon-shaped sporocysts, with small sub-Stieda body and a membrane-bound sporocyst residuum. Therefore, based on the morphological and molecular features, I. basileuterusi n. sp. is the fifth species described in a host of the family Parulidae and the first molecularly characterized via sequencing the cox1 gene.

- Abstract
The current work aimed to analyze, morphologically, statistically and molecularly, oocysts shed from plumbeous pigeons Patagioenas plumbea Vieillot, 1818 from a locality at 2197m of altitude near the Agulhas Negras peak, the highest point of the State of Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil. The oocysts were extremely polymorphic, being subspheroidal, ovoidal or ellipsoidal, in addition to having the random presence/absence of characteristic features associated with the oocyst wall, such as micropyle, micropyle cap, lateral micropyle and outer veil/rough wall. Linear regression confirmed the extreme polymorphism of oocysts, showing that if all combinations of taxonomic characters in oocysts (morphotypes) were overestimated, 19 different species could be identified/described. In contrast, the means comparison analysis between oocysts with presence/absence of characteristic features and the histograms showed equivalences and regularity in the distribution in the classes of measures, which indicate the presence of a single species in the measured oocysts. Molecular analyzes was performed from the isolation of individual oocysts of different morphotypes, which had their genetic material extracted, amplified and sequenced in 4 non-overlapping loci in cox1, cox3 genes and fragments of small and large subunit rDNA of mitochondrial DNA. The sequences were 100% identical between the morphotypes, with the exception of a very small divergence observed at the locus that partially covers the cox3 gene. The phylogenetic analysis was inconclusive for the locus within cox1 gene traditionally used for eimeriid coccidians, however the other loci should have a promising future for phylogenetic studies when more sequences for the same genic regions are deposited in GenBank. Finally, the multifactorial analysis of the current work supported that the polymorphic oocysts shed from P. plumbea are a single species, which was named as Eimeria patagioenasae, making this the twenty-second eimerian description from Columbiformes.

Isospora coerebae Berto, Flausino, Luz, Ferreira and Lopes, 2010 Host: Bananaquit Coereba flaveola (Linnaeus, 1758) (Passeriformes: Thraupidae: Coerebinae) Locality: Private Natural Heritage Reserve of Porangaba (22°48’29.83’’S; 43°49’38.77’’W), Municipality of Itaguaí, State of Rio de Janeiro, Southeastern Brazil. Specimens: Photomicrographs are deposited and available (http://r1.ufrrj.br/labicoc/colecao.html) in the Parasitology Collection of the Laboratório de Biologia de Coccídios, at UFRRJ, under repository number 115/2021. Photovouchers of the host specimens are deposited in the same collection. Representative DNA sequence: DNA amplification of the COI1 and COI2 genic regions showed clear bands around ~250 bp and ~650 bp, respectively. Representative sequences were deposited in the GenBank database under the accession numbers: OK194671 (COI1); and OK194672 (COI2). Site of infection: Unknown. Prevalence: 100% (1/1). Sporulation: Exogenous. All oocysts were passed in the feces unsporulated and were fully sporulated by day 7 in K 2 Cr 2 O 7 solution at room temperature (20–25°C). Morphology (Fig 1 A-F): Oocyst (n = 15) sub-spherical, 22−27 × 22−25 (24.4 × 22.9); length/width (L/W) ratio 1.0−1.1 (1.07). Wall bi-layered, smooth outer wall about 2/3 total thickness, 1.5−1.8 (1.7). Micropyle, polar granules and oocyst residuum absent. Sporocyst elongate ovoidal, 16−19 × 10−11 (17.6 × 10.5); L/W ratio 1.6−1.8 (1.67). Stieda body present, prominent and rounded, 1.3−1.5 × 1.9−2.3 (1.4 × 2.1). Sub-Stieda body present, short and wide, 1.0−1.6 × 3.1−3.7 (1.3 × 3.5). Para-Stieda body absent. Crystalloid body sometimes present in the center of the sporocyst. Sporocyst residuum present, composed of many scattered granules of different sizes. Sporozoites vermiform, with a prominent posterior refractile body. Remarks: The oocysts recovered from the bananaquit in the current work are morphologically equivalent to the original description of I. coerebae, which have a typical and easily identifiable morphology, mainly in the Stieda and Sub-Stieda bodies (Berto et al. 2010). Table 1 compares the morphology and morphometry of the oocysts from the current work with those from the original description of I. coerebae. The typical morphology of the Stieda and Sub-Stieda bodies of I. coerebae are the basis of differentiation from another congeneric species, Isospora cagasebi Berto, Flausino, Luz, Ferreira and Lopes, 2008, which has the same host- and locality-types: C. flaveola in the Marambaia Island (Berto et al. 2008) (Table 1). However, in the current work no oocyst of I. cagasebi was observed, which, despite being similar in some characteristic features to I. coerebae, their sporocysts have knob-like Stieda body and prominent Sub-Stieda body, while I. coerebae has rounded Stieda body and short and wide Sub-Stieda body (Berto et al. 2010). Phylogenetic analysis: Phylogenetic analysis included sequences from coccidians available in GenBank (Figs. 2; 3). Toxoplasma gondii (Nicolle and Manceaux, 1908) was used as the outgroup. In the phylogenetic analysis based on the COI1 gene (Fig. 2), I. coerebae was recovered in a clade with the highest similarity of 99% with Isospora sepetibensis Berto, Flausino, Luz, Ferreira and Lopes, 2008 from black-goggled tanagers Trichothraupis melanops (Vieillot, 1818) of the Itatiaia National Park, which is located in the mountainous region in the interior of Southeastern Brazil. In the COI2 based phylogenetic analysis (Fig. 3), I. coerebae sat in a large clade with Isospora spp. from passerines of North America, Europe and Asia, with the highest similarity of 98% with Isospora greineri Hafeez, Stasiak, Delnatte, El-Sherry, Smith and Barta, 2014 from superb starlings Lamprotornis superbus Rüppell, 1845 at the Toronto Zoo, Toronto, Canada., Published as part of Ortúzar-Ferreira, Carlos Nei, Andrade, Lucas De Assis S., Genovezoliveira, Jhon Lennon, Oliveira, Mariana S., Mello, Ericson R., Cardozo, Sergian V., Oliveira, Águida A., Lima, Viviane M., Ferreira, Ildemar & Berto, Bruno P., 2022, Molecular identification of Isospora coerebae Berto, Flausino, Luz, Ferreira & Lopes, 2010 (Chromista: Miozoa: Eimeriidae) from the bananaquit Coereba flaveola (Linnaeus, 1758) (Passeriformes: Thraupidae: Coerebinae) from Brazil, pp. 83-91 in Zootaxa 5168 (1) on pages 85-86, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.5168.1.7, http://zenodo.org/record/6876923, {"references":["Berto, B. Isospora coerebae Berto, Flausino, Luz, Ferreira & Lopes, 2010 is a coccidian protozoan described from bananaquits Coereba flaveola (Linnaeus, 1758), on Marambaia Island, which is located on the southeastern Brazilian coast. In this current work, I. coerebae is identified from C. flaveola in a protected area close to Marambaia Island, but on the mainland, establishing a new location of parasitism, in addition to providing a preliminary genotypic characterization via sequencing of two regions of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) gene. Its oocysts are sub-spherical, 24.4 × 22.9 μm, with smooth, bilayered wall, ~1.7 μm thick. Micropyle, polar granules and oocyst residuum are absent. Sporocysts are elongate ovoidal, 17.6 × 10.5 μm. Stieda body prominent and rounded and sub-Stieda body short and wide. Sporocyst residuum is composed of scattered granules of different sizes. Sporozoites are vermiform with a prominent posterior refractile body. The oocysts of the current work are morphologically equivalent to the original description of I. coerebae, which have a typical and easily identifiable morphology, mainly in the Stieda and Sub-Stieda bodies. The two sequenced gene regions of the COI gene approximated I. coerebae to Isospora spp. from Southeastern Brazil, but also from Isospora spp. from passerines of North America, Europe and Asia. Although there is a small overlap between the two genic regions sequenced in the current work, it is estimated that the longer COI sequence, which was recently designed and still not widespread, should show better phylogenetic results in the future.

- Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is considered the third most prevalent chronic non-communicable disease in the Brazilian population, being responsible for a high rate of physical disability and reduced quality of life. Little has been discussed about the social factors associated with this health condition. This study aimed to analyze the social factors associated with OA in the Brazilian population. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study based on data from the 2013 National Health Survey in Brazil with OA as its main outcome. Gender, age, body weight, usual activities, physical activity, self-perceived health and diagnosis of depression were analyzed as independent variables. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Poisson multiple regression was performed, and the prevalence ratio (PR) and confidence interval (CI) of 95% were calculated using a significance level of 5% (p≤0.05). Results: A total of 60,202 individuals of both genders took part in this study and the OA prevalence was 6.4%. The individual factors associated with a higher prevalence of OA were female gender (PR = 2.09; CI = 1.95-2.25), age over 35 years (PR = 2.88; CI = 2.57-3.24) and excess body weight (PR = 1.61; CI = 1.25-2.07). The presence of OA showed an association with lower performance of usual activities (PR = 1.61; CI = 1.50-1.73) and self-perceived health as very poor (PR = 3.96; CI = 3.31-4.72). In addition, it was associated with a higher prevalence of mental illnesses such as depression (PR = 1.77; CI = 1.64-1.90). Conclusion: Social and modifiable factors which are associated with a higher prevalence of osteoarthritis can be controlled through incentive measures such as social participation and physical activity.

Photomicrographs are also deposited and available (http:// r1.ufrrj.br/labicoc/colecao.html) in the Parasitology Collection of the Laboratório de Biologia de Coccídios, at UFRRJ, under repository number P-90/2018. Photographs of the type-host specimen (symbiotype) are deposited in the same collection. ZooBank registration: To comply with the regulations set out in article 8.5 of the amended 2012 version of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN, 2012), details of the new species have been submitted to ZooBank. The Life Science Identifier (LSID) for Isospora brasilsatoae is urn:lsid:zoobank.org:act: 6C3FEE82- FC9C-4A58-8C17-1713532F03F3. Site of infection: Unknown. Prevalence: Four of 10 (40%). Sporulation: Exogenous. All oocysts were passed in the feces unsporulated and were fully sporulated by day 7 in K 2 Cr 2 O 7 solution at room temperature (20–25°C). Etymology: The specific name is derived from the family name of a Brazilian parasitologist Dr Marília de Carvalho Brasil Sato, given in her honor for her contribution to the study of taxonomy and ecology of parasites. Description (Figs 1; 2 A–C). Oocyst (n = 15) ovoidal to pyriform, 25-30 × 19-23 (26.8 × 21.1); length/width (L/W) ratio 1.2-1.4 (1.27). Wall bi-layered, delicate, 1.4-1.8 (1.6) thick, outer layer smooth, c. 2/3 of total thickness. Micropyle present, without micropyle cap, wrinkles or invagination of the in inner layer perceptible. Oocyst residuum absent, but 1 to 3 rounded polar granules are present. Sporocyst elongate ovoidal with tapered anterior end (where it is Stieda/sub- Stieda complex), 17-19 × 10-11 (18.1 × 10.5); L/W ratio 1.6-1.9 (1.72). Stieda body present, knob-like, 2.0 high × 2.0 wide. Sub-Stieda body present, trapezoidal, 1.5 high × 3.5 wide. Para-Stieda body absent. Sporocyst residuum present, as a distinctly sub-spherical body consisting of numerous small granules that appear to be membranebounded, 6–9 (7.5). Sporozoites vermiform, with anterior and posterior refractile bodies and striations. Remarks: Isospora brasilsatoae is different from other coccidian species of Turdidae of the New World on several aspects (Table 1). It is the only one to have a pyriform shape of the oocysts. It has a micropyle, which is a characteristic present only in the oocysts of Isospora albicollis Lainson and Shaw, 1989, Isospora sabiai Pinho, Rodrigues, Silva, Lopes, Oliveira, Ferreira, Cardozo, Luz, Ferreira, Lopes and Berto, 2017 and Isospora machadoae Pinho, Silva, Rodrigues, Lopes, Oliveira, Luz, Ferreira, Lopes and Berto, 2018 (Lainson & Shaw 1989; Pinho et al. 2017a; 2017b; 2018). From these three, but also from the others, I. brasilsatoae can be easily differentiated by having up to three rounded polar granules, sporocysts elongate ovoidal (L/W ratio> 1.6), sub- Stieda body trapezoidal, and compact residuum.

- Abstract
Stress during pregnancy may impact subsequent generations, which is demonstrated by an increased susceptibility to childhood and adulthood health problems in the children and grandchildren. Although the importance of the prenatal environment is well reported with regards to future physical and emotional outcomes, little is known about the molecular mechanisms that mediate the long-term consequences of early stress across generations. Recent studies have identified DNA methylation as a possible mediator of the impact of prenatal stress in the offspring. Whether psychosocial stress during pregnancy also affects DNA methylation of the grandchildren is still not known. In the present study we examined the multigenerational hypothesis, that is, grandmaternal exposure to psychosocial stress during pregnancy affecting DNA methylation of the grandchildren. We determined the genome-wide DNA methylation profile in 121 children (65 females and 56 males) and tested for associations with exposure to grandmaternal interpersonal violence during pregnancy. We observed methylation variations of five CpG sites significantly (FDR amp;lt; 0.05) associated with the grandmothers report of exposure to violence while pregnant with the mothers of the children. The results revealed differential methylation of genes previously shown to be involved in circulatory system processes (FDRo0.05). This study provides support for DNA methylation as a biological mechanism involved in the transmission of stress across generations and motivates further investigations to examine prenatal-dependent DNA methylation as a potential biomarker for health problems., Funding Agencies|European Research Council (ERC) through ERC advanced grant [323977]; CAPES/DAAD [18354/12-2]

In this work, the corrosion behavior of the AA4006 alloy made by the twin roll caster process was evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), anodic potentiodynamic polarization curves, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This alloy belongs to the Al-Fe-Si system and is present with higher amounts of Fe and Si than AA1050 aluminum. Electrochemical tests were performed in a sulfate solution with or without chloride ions, and two different areas of the AA4006 alloy were tested: at the surface and at the center of the sheet (half thickness). The results obtained were compared to the commercially pure AA1050 aluminum. Electrochemical tests carried out using the solution without chloride ions presented similar results; however, the addition of chloride ions resulted in localized corrosion in all samples. It was possible to compare the corrosion behavior of the studied materials analyzing these electrochemical data and the micrographs obtained by scanning electron microscopy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SODIUM butyrate , *BUTYRATES , *INTESTINES , *DIET , *CHICKENS , *DIETARY supplements - Abstract
This study was developed to examine the performance, carcass and cut yields, nutrient digestibility, and intestinal histomorphometry of chickens fed diets supplemented with protected sodium butyrate until 21 days of age. Two experiments were conducted, both of which involved the following treatments: basal diet with inclusion of an antibiotic; basal diet without antibiotic or protected sodium butyrate (PSB; control); basal diet with inclusion of 225 g/t PSB in the pre-starter and starter phases; and basal diet with inclusion of 300 g/t PSB in the pre-starter and starter phases. In the first experiment, 784 male broiler chicks were distributed into the four treatments, with seven replicates of 28 birds, to evaluate performance and carcass and cut yields. In experiment II, 280 male broiler chicks were distributed into the four treatments, with seven replicates of 10 birds, to evaluate intestinal digestibility and histomorphometry. At 42 days of age, the broilers supplemented with 225 g/t PSB had a higher average final weight than the control group. At seven days, the chickens supplemented with 300 g/t PSB exhibited the highest duodenal villus height; those supplemented with 225 or 300g/t PSB or antibiotic showed the greatest jejunal villus height; and those treated with 225 g/t PSB exhibited the highest jejunal villus/crypt ratio. At 21 days of age, the broilers that received 225 g/t PSB showed the highest duodenal and jejunal villus height. The use of protected sodium butyrate in chicken diets up to 21 days of age improves intestinal development and performance until slaughter age. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this context, where the state is unable to serve the entire population, private organizations have taken part in this market, offering health plans and private assistance, which is called supplementary health. In this context, the themes studied are the psychological reactance that means the negative emotional reaction generated by the total or partial lack of freedom or the expectation of freedom of an individual who once got it and the health plan user???s satisfaction. User satisfaction and psychological reactance are topics exhaustively studied by the organizations, being one of the preferred themes in the study of consumer behavior, evidently being relevant because these studies allow the strategic analysis of the companies with more accurate data, resulting in greater profitability and success of these institutions. The study was conducted by means of a quantitative method, based on the satisfaction and psychological reactance of the users of the supplementary health system with the modeling of structural equations using the SmartPLS system, in order to test the hypotheses constructed based on the theories studied. The results obtained are in agreement with the theory of reactance and satisfaction, confirming the hypotheses proposed, there being a negative relation between both for the studied sample, the lower the reactance level observed, the higher the satisfaction level declared by the users. The conclusion of the study suggests as a contribution to the practice that managers approach the relationship between health plans and their users, creating programs to prevent diseases, combat sedentarism, chronic diseases and improve the quality of life of users, obtaining a participation collaborative of both.

Provided most recommended type of therapy, chemotherapy is responsible for greatest impact on treatment cost. In this sense, this research proposes a method that helps management of chemotherapy schedule, improving issues related to logistics characteristics and time constraints so that treatment becomes more effective. From January 2012 to December 2013, data were collected relating production, costs of major inputs, loss of prepared medicines and chemotherapies relationship conducted with inpatients and outpatients, all related to proposed change in the management model of Oncology sector from a public hospital located at S??o Paulo state. As usual flow consisted of patient medical examination, with treatment prescribed by doctor, the new proposed protocol determined that the schedule no longer take place by the medical action, but by pharmacist, in the sense that he is professional manager, capable to accurately assess variables such as time, cost, competition for resources and optimization of infusion bags. As a result, the study showed increased number of outpatients and decrease number of inpatients, which generates cost savings. There was fourfold increase in total number of patients seen per year, with financial resources invested remaining stable. This study showed that new approaches to follow the flow model proposed here, would optimize resources, serving a larger number of patients, maintaining quality of processes, confidentiality of information, and saving costs and inputs. Furthermore, it was shown to be more effective multi scheduling, in which the physician says the protocol that will be used, the time will be used, and whether the patient is able to use, but with regard to the management of competing facilities as beds, interaction, armchair, chemotherapy or surgical room, a professional liability being with a logistics vision of the whole, in which case, a nurse or pharmacist A quimioterapia ainda ?? a principal forma de combate ao c??ncer e, consequentemente, a demanda por este tipo de tratamento acompanha o aumento da incid??ncia e preval??ncia da doen??a.

- Abstract
Mounting evidence suggests that environmentally induced epigenetic inheritance occurs in mammals and that traits in the progeny can be shaped by parental environmental experiences. Epidemiological studies link parental exposure to environmental toxicants, such as the pesticide DDT, to health phenotypes in the progeny, including low birth and increased risk of chronic diseases later in life. Here, we show that the progeny of male mice exposed to DDT in the pre-conception period are born smaller and exhibit sexual dimorphism in metabolic function, with male, but not female, offspring developing severe glucose intolerance compared to controls. These phenotypes in DDT offspring were linked to reduced fetal growth and placenta size as well as placenta-specific reduction of glycogen levels and the nutrient sensor and epigenetic regulator OGT, with more pronounced phenotypes observed in male placentas. However, placenta-specific genetic reduction of OGT only partially replicates the metabolic phenotype observed in offspring of DDT-exposed males. Our findings reveal a role for paternal pre-conception environmental experiences in shaping placenta development and in fetal growth restriction. While many questions remain, our data raise the tantalizing possibility that placenta programming could be a mediator of environmentally induced intergenerational epigenetic inheritance of phenotypes and needs to be further evaluated., (© 2024. - Abstract
The current work aimed to analyze, morphologically, statistically, and molecularly, oocysts shed from plumbeous pigeons, Patagioenas plumbea (Vieillot, 1818), from a locality at 2197 m of altitude near the Agulhas Negras peak, the highest point of the State of Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil. The oocysts were extremely polymorphic, being subspheroidal, ovoidal, or ellipsoidal, in addition to having the random presence/absence of characteristic features associated with the oocyst wall, such as micropyle, micropyle cap, lateral micropyle, and outer veil/rough wall. Linear regression confirmed the extreme polymorphism of oocysts, showing that if all combinations of taxonomic characters in oocysts (morphotypes) were overestimated, 19 different species could be identified/described. In contrast, the means comparison analysis between oocysts with the presence/absence of characteristic features and the histograms showed equivalences and regularity in the distribution in the classes of measures, which indicate the presence of a single species in the measured oocysts. Molecular analyses were performed from the isolation of individual oocysts of different morphotypes, which had their genetic material extracted, amplified, and sequenced in 4 non-overlapping loci in the cox1 and cox3 genes and fragments of the small and large subunit rDNA of mitochondrial DNA. The sequences were 100% identical between the morphotypes, with the exception of a very small divergence observed at the locus that partially covers the cox3 gene. The phylogenetic analysis was inconclusive for the locus within the cox1 gene traditionally used for eimeriid coccidians; however, the other loci should have a promising future for phylogenetic studies when more sequences for the same genic regions are deposited in GenBank. Finally, the multifactorial analysis of the current work supported that the polymorphic oocysts shed from P. plumbea are a single species, which was named Eimeria patagioenasae, making this the twenty-second eimerian description from Columbiformes., (© 2023. Objective: This paper aims to: (1) document a rare femoral heterotopic ossification (HO), and (2) discuss its aetiology and impact on the individual's locomotion and daily living activities., Materials: Adult female skeleton (SG.14-SK.7) from the village of Constância (Portugal), and dated from the 14th-19th centuries CE., Methods: The biological profile and the macroscopic analysis of the bone changes were assessed using standardized methods., Results: The macroscopic analysis revealed a large bony mass (8 cm length) located immediately inferior to the small trochanter of the right femur. The lesion exhibited a compact, tubular appearance located at the site of attachment of the pectineus muscle. No signs of bone fracture were observed., Conclusions: The morphology of the SG.14-SK.7 femoral lesion is compatible with a probable case of myositis ossificans traumatica (MOT), secondary to acute trauma of the pectineus muscle. The underlying trauma episode, such as random accidental and/or occupation-related injury, is unknown. However, it is highly possible that this self-limiting condition significantly impaired the individual's daily life and mobility., Significance: Evidence of severe acute muscle trauma is a rare finding compared with HO secondary to bone trauma and other minor muscle injuries. Moreover, no cases of MOT affecting the pectineus muscle have been reported in the paleopathological literature to date., Limitations: Although unlikely, a case of neurogenic or burn-related HO cannot be completely disregarded. It was not possible to undertake radiography as part of this study., Suggestions for Further Research: The use of imaging techniques to complement the paleopathological description is advised., (Copyright © 2023 Elsevier Inc. - Abstract
DNA sequence accounts for the majority of disease heritability, including cancer. Yet, not all familial cancer cases can be explained by genetic factors. It is becoming clear that environmentally induced epigenetic inheritance occurs and that the progeny's traits can be shaped by parental environmental experiences. In humans, epidemiological studies have implicated environmental toxicants, such as the pesticide DDT, in intergenerational cancer development, including breast and childhood tumors. Here, we show that the female progeny of males exposed to DDT in the pre-conception period have higher susceptibility to developing aggressive tumors in mouse models of breast cancer. Sperm of DDT-exposed males exhibited distinct patterns of small non-coding RNAs, with an increase in miRNAs and a specific surge in miRNA-10b levels. Remarkably, embryonic injection of the entire sperm RNA load of DDT-exposed males, or synthetic miRNA-10b, recapitulated the tumor phenotypes observed in DDT offspring. Mechanistically, miR-10b injection altered the transcriptional profile in early embryos with enrichment of genes associated with cell differentiation, tissue and immune system development. In adult DDT-derived progeny, transcriptional and protein analysis of mammary tumors revealed alterations in stromal and in immune system compartments. Our findings reveal a causal role for sperm RNAs in environmentally induced inheritance of cancer predisposition and, if confirmed in humans, this could help partially explain some of the "missing heritability" of breast, and other, malignancies., Competing Interests: The authors declare they have no actual or potential competing financial interests

Breast cancer (BC) is the most diagnosed cancer type, accounting for one in eight cancer diagnoses worldwide. Epidemiological studies have shown that obesity is associated with increased risk of BC in post-menopausal women, whereas adiposity reduces the risk of BC in premenopausal women. The mechanistic link between obesity and BC has been examined by combining murine BC models with high-fat diet (HFD) induced obesity. However, the effect of adiposity (not obesity) induced by a short period of HFD consumption on BC pathogenesis is not well understood. In the current study, we examined the effects of different diet compositions on BC pathogenesis using a young E0771 syngeneic BC mouse model fed on either an HFD or regular diet (RD: a low-fat high-carbohydrate diet) for a short period (4 weeks) before implanting mammary tumors in mice. We analyzed the effect of diet composition on the onset of tumor growth, metastasis, and metabolic and immune status in the tumor microenvironment (TME) using various methods including in vivo bioluminescence imaging and immunoblotting analyses. We showed for the first time that a short-term HFD delays the onset of tumorigenesis by altering the immune and metabolic signaling and energy mechanism in the TME. However, RD may increase the risk of tumorigenesis and metastasis by increasing pro-inflammatory factors in the TME in young mice. Our data suggest that diet composition, adipogenesis, and loss of body fat likely regulate the pathogenesis of BC in a manner that differs between young and post-menopausal subjects.

- Abstract
Epigenetic marks, particularly DNA methylation (DNAm), are emerging as an important biological marker of susceptibility to cardiac autonomic dysfunction. This review summarizes recent discoveries about the association between DNAm and cardiac autonomic activity. A systematic literature search was performed through the Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Pubmed, PsycINFO, and Pilots databases. Twenty-two studies met inclusion criteria, of which 18 were human studies including a total of 2,686 participants. DNAm differences in multiple genes, such as NR3C1, TLR2, GPR133, EPO, PHGDH, OXTR , and SLC7A11 , linked environmental stressors to physiological responses. For instance, exposure to psychosocial stressors increased NR3C1 methylation, which was associated with both decreased blood pressure and increased parasympathetic activity. Additionally, GPR133 played a potential role in cardiac autonomic dysfunction in an occupational setting, affecting the heart rate's deceleration capacity in welders. This review's findings suggest that DNAm is involved in cardiac autonomic regulation under different stress-mediated responses.

- Abstract
Isospora coerebae Berto, Flausino, Luz, Ferreira Lopes, 2010 is a coccidian protozoan described from bananaquits Coereba flaveola (Linnaeus, 1758), on Marambaia Island, which is located on the southeastern Brazilian coast. Its oocysts are sub-spherical, 24.4 22.9 m, with smooth, bilayered wall, ~1.7 m thick. Micropyle, polar granules and oocyst residuum are absent. Sporocysts are elongate ovoidal, 17.6 10.5 m.

- Abstract
β-Glucosidases (BGLs) belong to the group of enzymes of cellulases and act in the last stage of cellulose degradation, releasing glucose molecules, eliminating the inhibitory effect of cellobiose. This study focused on the production, characterization, and application of BGL from Moniliophthora perniciosa in the hydrolysis of pretreated sugarcane bagasse (3% NaOH + 6% Na
2 SO3 ), with varying enzymatic loads and reaction times. The enzyme showed an optimum pH of 4.5 and 60°C. It was stable at all temperatures analyzed (50-90°C) and retained about 100% of its activity at 50°C after 60 min of incubation. Among the ions analyzed, BaCl2 increased BGL activity 9.04 ± 1.41 times. The maximum production of reducing sugars (89.15%) was achieved after 48 h with 10 mg of protein., (© 2021 International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Inc.)- Published

- Abstract
Parental environmental experiences affect disease susceptibility in the progeny through epigenetic inheritance. Pesticides are substances or mixtures of chemicals-some of which are persistent environmental pollutants-that are used to control pests. This review explores the evidence linking parental exposure to pesticides and endocrine disruptors to intergenerational and transgenerational susceptibility of cancer in population studies and animal models. We also discuss the impact of pesticides and other endocrine disruptors on the germline epigenome as well as the emerging evidence for how epigenetic information is transmitted between generations. Finally, we discuss the importance of this mode of inheritance in the context of cancer prevention and the challenges ahead.
