In the field of renewable energy, the extraction of parameters for solar photovoltaic (PV) cells is a widely studied area of research. Parameter extraction of solar PV cell is a highly non-linear complex optimization problem. In this research work, the authors have explored grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm to estimate the optimized value of the unknown parameters of a PV cell. The simulation results have been compared with five different pre-existing optimization algorithms: gravitational search algorithm (GSA), a hybrid of particle swarm optimization and gravitational search algorithm (PSOGSA), sine cosine (SCA), chicken swarm optimization (CSO) and cultural algorithm (CA). Furthermore, a comparison with the algorithms existing in the literature is also carried out. The comparative results comprehensively demonstrate that GWO outperforms the existing optimization algorithms in terms of root mean square error (RMSE) and the rate of convergence. Furthermore, the statistical results validate and indicate that GWO algorithm is better than other algorithms in terms of average accuracy and robustness. An extensive comparison of electrical performance parameters: maximum current, voltage, power, and fill factor (FF) has been carried out for both PV model.

Managing solar energy utilization and water heating in multi-apartment buildings presents formidable challenges due to limited space for solar collector installation. Optimizing heat energy distribution among communal consumers is crucial, necessitating precise regulation of hot water flow from the main system line to individual thermal storage tanks. The objective is to minimize heat and electricity losses while maximizing temperature levels in each tank. An electronic control system, centered around a microcontroller, has been developed with an efficient algorithm, data storage memory, and communication capabilities. The implemented solar heating system is tailored to each individual consumer, incorporating precise measurements for every apartment. This customization enhances efficiency not only for the individual consumer but also benefits the overall solar system within the building. This paper describes a charge pump system for a flexible thermoelectric generator (TEG). Even though the TEG has high-output impedance, the system controls the input voltage to keep it higher than the minimum operating voltage by modulating the input impedance of the charge pump using two-phase operation with low- and high-input impedance modes. The average input impedance can be matched with the output impedance of the TEG. How the system can be designed is also described in detail. A design demonstration was performed for the TEG with 400 Ω. The fabricated system was also measured with a flexible-type TEG based on carbon nanotubes. Even with an output impedance of 1.4 kΩ, the system converted thermal energy into electric power of 30 μW at 2.5 V to the following sensor ICs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The partial shading conditions significantly affect the functionality of solar power plants despite the presence of multiple maximum power point tracking systems. The primary cause of this problem is the presence of local maxima in the power–current and/or power–voltage characteristic curves that restrict the functionality of the conventional maximum power point tracking systems. The present article proposes a modified algorithm based on the simplified equivalent circuit of solar cells to improve the functionality of traditional maximum power point tracking systems. This algorithm provides a method for regularly monitoring the photo-current of each solar module. The upper and lower boundaries of the regulating parameter such as current or voltage are decided very precisely, which is helpful to find the location of the global maximum. During a sequential search, the control system accurately determines the lower and upper boundaries of the global maximum. Simultaneously, the maximum power point tracking system increases the photovoltaic current up to one of these boundaries and applies one of the conventional algorithms. Additionally, the control system regularly monitors the photovoltaic characteristics and changes the limits of regulating parameter concerning any change in global maximum location. This proposed method is fast and precise to locate the global maximum boundaries and to track global maximum even under fast-changing partial shading conditions.
