The improvement of the compatibility between two nonpolar rubber blends has a pivotal role to obtain superior blend properties. In this work, we utilized a facile and biofriendly modification approach of natural bentonite (BT) clay by two renewable resins, namely antibacterial gum rosin (GR) and soybean long oil alkyd resin (LAR). Which are considered to be toxicity-free reinforcing substance, thus preserving the bio-character of the substance. They used to increase the interlayer spacing distance between the BT galleries. This was proven by XRD and FT-IR. Natural rubber (NR)/styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) blend was loaded with variable proportions of EBT-based GR and LAR bio-resins ranging from 3 to 15 wt.%. The ultrasonic and tensile properties were used to assess the compatibility between the rubber blends. The outcomes revealed that NR/SBR-3EBT-GR and NR/SBR-15EBT-LAR nanocomposites possessed higher tensile strength and rapture at break. Furthermore, the proposed mechanism of EBT by GR and LAR bio-resins with NR/SBR blend was studied. The both nanocomposites were then subjected to different measurements such as morphology by SEM and TEM, H-pull-out adhesion between rubber blends and polyester (PET) cords, and antibacterial activity. Detecting defects in various industrial products remains a challenging task in the industry. Researchers are constantly working to improve detection techniques and tools for various defects, particularly cracks. Many industrial structures suffer from cracks. The selection of a suitable technique and/or tool is based upon the tested structures and the accuracy of the technique and/or tool. The work's novelty is the development of a fully accurate, simple, and safe ultrasonic tool for precisely scanning cracks. A pen‐shaped cone was added to the ultrasonic transducers to improve their performance. Different crosshead speeds and annealing techniques were used to cause cracks on medium density polyethylene (MDPE) and poly‐methyl‐methacrylate (PMMA) polymer plates with specific dimensions. Cone reduced the front diameter of the transducers from 12 to 2 mm (cone tip diameter). It improved the transducers by giving them new properties such as a small near field, a collimated beam, high sensitivity, and high wave reflection. The modified transducers tracked the cracks at discrete sequential sites, where the ultrasonic velocity was measured to determine the crack speed, critical crack speed, dynamic stress intensity factor, and crack branching phenomenon. Additionally, ultrasonic attenuation was measured in order to accurately determine crack growth behavior, the crack's neck zone, and the crack growth dependency on both plate thickness and annealing. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images revealed crack propagation in polymer plates. The results of ultrasonic testing and SEM evaluations were consistent. Reference blocks are required for ultrasonic calibration and non-destructive testing (NDT). There are already in existence sets of reference blocks constructed according to American Society for Testing and Materials standards, but as the industry evolves, we need more reference blocks with varied designs. In this study, two reference blocks of steel and aluminum are constructed. These blocks have several sets of flat bottom holes (FBH) with different diameters (0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 and 2.5 mm), angles (45° and 90°) and placements. The novel constructed reference blocks are evaluated using the ultrasonic and a displacement measuring interferometer (DMI). They allow for detailed FBH characterization in terms of defining their location, diameter, depth and so on. The two techniques show consistency in the majority of the outcomes. The expanded uncertainty of readings is found to be ±1•4 μm, according to DMI data. The findings show that the newly constructed blocks could be ideal for evaluating a variety of calibration factors including transducer sensitivity, dead zone, defect size, and depth. Ultrasonic pulse echo technique was used to study cupric oxide (CuO) thin films. CuO thin films were prepared using sol gel technique. They were doped with Lithium (Li) (1%, 2% and 4%). Thin films' thickness (d) and band gap energy (Eg) were measured. In addition, elastic moduli (longitudinal (L), shear (G), bulk (K) and Young's (E)) and Poisson's ratio (v) were determined to estimate the microstructure properties of the prepared films. The study ameliorated the used transducers to overcome their dead zone and beam scattering; wedges were developed. The results showed the effectiveness of these wedges. They enhanced transducers' sensitivity by changing the dead zone, beam diameter, beam directivity and waves' transmission. Also, the study noted that Li doping caused the improvement of CuO thin films to be more useful in solar cell fabrication. Li-CuO thin films had narrower band gap. Thus, they acquired a high quantum yield for the excited carriers; also they gained more efficiency to absorb solar light. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
