Alkali metals have been used to degrade SF 6 in liquid ammonia. The products include metal fluorides. In this study, we reacted K - and Ag - with SF 6 in a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer. The atomic metal anions were formed by in-source collision-induced dissociation (CID) of their respective oxalate salts as previously described by our group. The only two reaction products observed were SF 6 - and SF 5 - . At low collision energy, the latter was deduced to be formed via an abstraction by the metal of F from SF 6 - formed by electron transfer in the encounter complex between the metal anion and neutral SF 6 . As the collision energy was increased, there was evidence of a CID contribution to SF 5 - directly from SF 6 - ., (© 2024 The Author(s). Background: Sleep is impaired in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). However, population-based examination of indicators of sleep insufficiency and bedtime irregularity is limited. This investigation examined associations between ADHD, weeknight sleep insufficiency, and bedtime irregularity in a nationally-representative child sample, and indicators of these sleep outcomes in ADHD., Methods: Parents of children aged 3-17 years with ADHD (n = 7671) were surveyed through the 2020-2021 National Survey of Children's Health. Inverse probability of treatment weighting generated a weighted matched control sample (n = 51,572). Weighted generalized linear models were performed without and with age-stratification to examine associations between ADHD and sleep, adjusting for sociodemographics in the full sample, and between nineteen sociodemographic and clinical variables and sleep in ADHD., Results: Having ADHD was associated with increased odds of sleep insufficiency and bedtime irregularity relative to controls, even after adjusting for sociodemographic variables. In ADHD, older age was associated with lower sleep insufficiency and greater bedtime irregularity. Black race, increased poverty, higher ADHD severity, depression, and increased screen time were associated with greater sleep insufficiency and bedtime irregularity. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) were associated with greater sleep insufficiency. Behavioral/conduct problems, female sex, and absence of both ADHD medication use and ASD diagnosis were associated with poorer bedtime irregularity. Age-stratified results are reported in text., Conclusions: Children with ADHD face heightened risk for insufficient sleep and irregular bedtimes. Findings suggest intervention targets (e.g., Black race, poverty, depression, screen time) to improve both sleep insufficiency and bedtime irregularity. Results highlight ACEs and behavioral/conduct problems as targets to improve sleep insufficiency and bedtime regularity, respectively. Objectives: Cultural norms shape expectations, care, and communication. Effective interpersonal communication is a prominent predictor of patient-partner cancer management, improving the overall quality of life for the dyad by increasing their ability to cope with cancer. However, couples-based cancer interventions often do not consider cultural factors. Additionally, although Latinas have a high incidence of breast cancer, few studies focus on Latino couples and the influence of culture in cancer care interventions. This study focuses on understanding how Latino culture's norms and expectations influence how couples communicate and cope post-breast cancer diagnosis., Design: This study conducted interviews and focus groups with a purposive sample of Spanish-speaking Latina breast cancer survivors ( N  = 21) and intimate partners (N = 5). In the focus group and interviews, participants were asked about the influence cancer had on their relationship, with specific questions focusing on communication within the dyad. The study team used CARV: Community-Engaged Adaptation with Rapid Analysis and Visualization framework to identify cultural considerations and recurring themes., Results: The cross-cutting cultural considerations and themes found were: the negative influence of gendered and social norms on managing emotions and coping; the silent struggle with physical intimacy; and the inability to discuss the topic - or even say the word 'cancer.', Conclusion: Understanding the role of Latino culture in how couples cope with and communicate about cancer post-diagnosis is essential. This understanding will help strengthen the dyad by assisting with positive interpersonal support, which contributes to a better quality of life. These findings will also help providers assist dyads in navigating the cancer diagnosis and journey, helping to lessen the interpersonal stress and tensions that can occur after diagnosis.

Previous relationship education research has focused on investigating healthy relationships at the couple level, with limited research conducted on individual-oriented relationship education programs for economically disadvantaged individuals. More specifically, there is a lack of research on how individual-oriented relationship education programs contribute to changes in unique attributes of individuals who enroll in these programs and who would benefit most from relationship education programs. The primary aim of this study is to understand the stability of economically disadvantaged individuals' psychological distress and emotion regulation over two time points, comparing individuals randomly assigned to the relationship intervention using Prevention and Relationship Education's (PREP) Within My Reach (WMR) versus those assigned to a wait-list control. Using a sample of 1129 economically disadvantaged individuals enrolled in the study, results indicated that the three-class model for psychological distress and emotion regulation was the most appropriate for the latent transition analysis. Treatment group participants were more likely to transition to more adaptive models than their wait-list control counterparts, although a small percentage of participants did transition to a less adaptive model. Objectives: Prostate cancer (PCa) stigma and its relationship to quality of life (QoL) is a relatively new finding. As the experiences of couples facing PCa are shared, the study examined the relationship between of PCa stigma, QoL, and relationship satisfaction of PCa survivors and their spouses., Design: A correlational design with dyadic data was used., Sample: Participants (N = 80 dyads) were PCa survivors and their spouses sampled from an oncology center and PCa support groups., Methods: Structural equation modeling was used to assess how stigma related to the QoL and relationship satisfaction of participants., Findings: Stigma had a negative association with QoL, but not relationship satisfaction. There were no significant demographic differences in regards to stigma., Conclusion: Overall, stigma has a relationship with the experience of couples, but not with every aspect of their experience. Implications for psychosocial providers: Implications for clinicians in regards to addressing PCa stigma with clients and areas for future research are discussed.

Pharmacies are promising alternative settings for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination because of their population reach, convenience, and existing infrastructure for vaccine delivery. However, pharmacies in the US are rarely used for adolescent HPV vaccination. We sought to document challenges and opportunities of implementing pharmacy-located HPV vaccination services in five US states by mapping process evaluation results onto key implementation science constructs: service penetration, acceptability, appropriateness, feasibility, fidelity, adoption, and sustainability. Pilot projects were planned in North Carolina (k = 2 pharmacies), Michigan (k = 10), Iowa (k = 2), Kentucky (k = 1), and Oregon (no pharmacy recruited) with varying procedures and recruitment strategies. Sites had open enrollment for a combined 12 months. Despite substantial efforts in these states, only 13 HPV vaccine doses were administered to adolescents and three doses to age-eligible young adults. We identified two major reasons for these underperforming results. First, poor outcomes on service penetration and appropriateness pointed to engagement barriers: low parent demand and engagement among pharmacy staff. Second, poor outcomes on feasibility, adoption, and sustainability appeared to result from administrative hurdles: lacking third party reimbursement (i.e., billing commercial payers, participation in Vaccines for Children program) and limited integration into primary care systems. In summary, pilot projects in five states all struggled to administer HPV vaccines. Opportunities for making pharmacies a successful setting for adolescent HPV vaccination include expanding third party reimbursement to cover all vaccines administered by pharmacists, increasing public awareness of pharmacists' immunization training, and improving care coordination with primary care providers.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the influence of stigma on prostate cancer (PCa) survivors' quality of life. Stigma for lung cancer survivors has been the focus of considerable research (Else-Quest & Jackson, 2014); however, gaps remain in understanding the experience of PCa stigma. A cross-sectional correlational study was designed to assess the incidence of PCa stigma and its influence on the quality of life of survivors. Eighty-five PCa survivors were administered survey packets consisting of a stigma measure, a PCa-specific quality of life measure, and a demographic survey during treatment of their disease. A linear regression analysis was conducted with the data received from PCa survivors. Results indicated that PCa stigma has a significant, negative influence on the quality of life for survivors (R 2 = 0.33, F(4, 80) = 11.53, p < 0.001). There were no statistically significant differences in PCa stigma based on demographic variables (e.g., race and age). Implications for physical and mental health practitioners and researchers are discussed.

The Helicobacter pylori type IV secretion system pilus protein CagL mediates interaction with host cells via its RGD motif. Here, we analyzed prerequisites for this interaction within CagL and on host cells. Various human cell lines were tested for adhesion to CagL. HT-29 and 23132/87 cells adhered to immobilized recombinant CagL in an RGD-dependent manner, while 293T (human embryonic kidney) and A549 cells did not. In a competitive ELISA, CagL competed with fibronectin for binding to the ectodomains of integrins αVβ6 and αVβ8 but not of αVβ1, αVβ3, αVβ5 and α5β1. Integrin αVβ6 acts as receptor for several viruses exposing an RGDLXXL motif. CagL also contains an RGDLXXL sequence. We individually mutated Leu79 and Leu82 of this motif to threonine, although both leucines are buried in the hydrophobic core. Surprisingly, the ability of CagL variants L79T and L82T to support adhesion was significantly reduced for 23132/87 cells and lost for MKN-45 and HT-29 cells. The role of integrin αVβ6 in adhesion to CagL was investigated using SW480 cells transfected with the integrin β6 subunit (SW480β6). These cells adhered to CagL in an RGD-dependent manner, while mock-transfected SW480 cells did not. The antibody 3G9 that blocks the function of integrin αVβ6 inhibited adhesion of SW480β6, MKN-45, 23132/87 and HT-29 cells to CagL. In summary, CagL features an RGDLXXL motif facilitating adhesion of several human cell lines via integrin αVβ6. The buried location of Leu79 and Leu82 supports our previously published hypothesis that CagL partly unfolds upon integrin binding., (Copyright © 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.)
