BACKGROUND/AIM: Craniocervical junction (CCJ) can be involved in inflammatory arthritis. We aimed to define types of CCJ involvement in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), spondyloarthritis (SpA), and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and compare them with patients without inflammatory arthritides. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this retrospective analysis, cervical CT or MRIs of patients with RA, SpA, or PsA, taken for any reason between 2010 and 2020, according to ICD-10 codes, were scanned. Demographic data of the patients were recorded. CCJ involvements (atlantoaxial, vertical, or subaxial subluxation, odontoid process involvement) were reevaluated by an experienced radiologist. The control group consisted of consecutive patients without inflammatory arthritis. RESULTS: Exactly 459 patients (204 RA, 200 SpA, and 55 PsA) and 78 patients in the control group were included in the study. CCJ involvement was detected in 101 (49.5%) RA, 53 (26.5%) SpA, 10 (18.2%) PsA, and 4 patients (5.1%) in the control group (p < 0.001). The odontoid process was one of the main targets, especially in RA patients (69 (33.8%)), which was significantly higher than in the SpA, PsA, and control groups. Although vertical subluxation (VS) was numerically higher in the RA and SpA groups compared to the control group, VS-related brainstem compression was relatively uncommon: 6 (2.9%) in RA, 1 (0.5%) in AS, and none in the PsA and control groups. CONCLUSION: CCJ involvement can often be detected in patients with inflammatory arthritis, especially in RA and SpA patients. The odontoid process is the main target of inflammation.

This study investigated the perceptions of EFL teachers' regarding written corrective feedback and the relationship between written corrective feedback preferences, self-efficacy beliefs and burnout levels. To investigate the effect of these contextual factors related to choices and perceptions of teachers, a mixed-methods design integrating qualitative and quantitative data collection and analyzing techniques and methods was used. A total of 36 instructors teaching English at various state universities in Turkey are involved in the study. To collect data, a semi-structured interview and three different questionnaires were used. Results demonstrated a significant correlation between written corrective feedback preferences and burnout levels of the participant teachers. They also indicated a significant correlation between written corrective feedback preferences of teachers and their self-efficacy levels. Among other results, explicit and unfocused written feedback preferences of teachers and the relationship between their preferences and their experience levels were significant.

Background/aim: Rheumatoid factor (RF) and anticitrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) are specific for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) diagnosis. However, they could be positive in other diseases and even in healthy populations. The aim was to investigate the prevalence of positive RF and anti-CCP antibodies in persons admitted to hospital for any reason and on a national scale. Materials and methods: The National Electronic Health Database, which contains the clinical records of over 80 million people, was used to design this multicenter, retrospective cohort study. The subjects included in the study were divided into age groups according to 10-year periods. RA cases were identified using ICD-10 codes that included M05, M06, M08, and their subgroups. RF and anti-CCP positivity were evaluated in terms of their contribution to the risk of being diagnosed with RA, with the change according to age and sex. Results: During the 1.1.2018-31.12.2021 period, 13,918,072 RF tests were performed in 11,849,440 people, whereas 1,183,607 anti-CCP tests were performed in 1,020,967 people. Moreover, 797,089 people had both tests performed at least once. The RF positivity rate in patients who only requested RF tests was 14.72% and it was 35.04% for anti-CCP positivity in those who only requested anti-CCP tests. The rate of concomitant RF and anti-CCP positivity was 22.56%. An RA diagnosis was made in 27.8% of RF-positive people, 39.73% of anti-CCP-positive people, and 56.6% of co-RF and anti-CCP-positive people. RF positivity and concomitant RF and anti-CCP positivity increased with age and were more common in females. Conclusion: RF and anti-CCP positivity may be seen in a healthy population with female predominance. As age increases, the risk of RF positivity rises, but anti-CCP positivity does not change. Concomitant RF and anti-CCP positivity shows the highest risk of RA development with respect to either antibody positivity alone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present study examined the associations of transformational leadership behaviors and team cohesion with the psychological health (life satisfaction, positive and negative affect, and burnout) of athletes and the indirect relationship of basic psychological needs. The sample consisted of 252 (boys) players aged between 13 and 15. The model data fit was also verified. The results demonstrated that the transformational leadership behaviors of coaches were indirectly related to athletes' psychological health. Team cohesion was related to athletes' psychological health both directly and indirectly. Basic psychological needs played an indirect role in these relationships. Transformational leadership and team cohesion have important implications for the healthy development of young people. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the effect of bone grafting on the bone union in exchange nailing (EN) for the treatment of femoral shaft nonunions. METHODS: A total of 26 patients (16 male) were included in this study. The mean age of the patients was 36.1±9.3. Bone grafts were used in 8 patients (bone graft group), and EN was performed without bone grafting (no bone graft group) in 18 patients. Etiology, fracture type, location, and classification of the fractures at the time of initial injury were evaluated. The reduction type (open or closed) and locking status of the nails were also noted. Nonunion types were recorded. In the bone grafting group, iliac bone autografts were used in seven patients and a synthetic bone graft was used in one patient. Following EN, the presence and duration of bone union, and the increase in the nails' diameter were analyzed for each group and compared. RESULTS: Union rates were 100% and 94.4% in bone grafting and no bone grafting groups, respectively. The mean union period was not significant between the groups (22.5 and 16.5 months, respectively). The mean increase in the nail diameter was 1.88 mm in the bone graft group and 2.00 mm in the no bone graft group (p>0.05). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that high union rates can be achieved with EN by means of using larger diameter nails with or without bone grafting in the management of femoral shaft nonunions, and bone grafting had no significant effect on union rates and periods. Objectives: We aimed to determine the choice of biologic/targeted synthetic disease‐modifying anti‐rheumatic drugs (b/ts‐DMARDs), factors associated with the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD), and mortality in RA patients with CKD receiving b/ts‐DMARDs. Methods: Two thousand one hundred forty‐one RA (79.4% female) patients were included in the analysis from the HUR‐BIO prospective registry. Patients were divided into the CKD group and the non‐CKD group. Age and gender‐matched patients were selected from the non‐CKD group, and then three main groups were determined. CKD was staged according to the glomerular filtration rate criteria. The clinical characteristics of the patients, disease activities, treatment choices, drug retention rate, and mortality rates were compared between the groups. Results: CKD was detected in 90/2141 (4.2%) RA patients on b/ts‐DMARDs. Forty patients (2.3%) developed CKD during follow‐up after the initiation of b/ts‐DMARDs. In the CKD group, anti‐TNF agents were chosen as the first‐line b/ts‐DMARDs therapy in 64.4% of patients, with etanercept leading in 31 (34.4%) patients. In multivariate analysis, age at the start of treatment, DAS‐28‐ESR at last visit, amyloidosis, hypertension, and history of smoking were the factors associated with the development of CKD in RA patients receiving b/ts‐DMARDs. The mortality rate in RA‐CKD patients until the onset of the pandemic was 15.41 per 1000 patient years, whereas it was 85.9 per 1000 patient years after the pandemic. Conclusion: Comorbidities and control of disease activity are critical in the development of CKD in RA patients receiving b/ts‐DMARDs. While there was no significant difference in mortality rate between CKD and non‐CKD patients, the overall mortality rate increased after the COVID‐19 pandemic duration in both groups. Objectives: Costovertebral (CV), costotransverse (CTr), sternoclavicular (SC), and manubriosternal (MS) joints are impacted in spondyloarthritis (SpA) patients; however, clinical aspects of these involvements require additional evaluation. Methods: A total of 281 SpA patients who had undergone chest computed tomography (CT) for any reason between 2010 and 2020 were included in the study. SpA patients were divided into three groups, ankylosing spondylitis (AS), non‐radiographic axial SpA, and psoriatic arthritis. Thirty age‐ and sex‐matched rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and 30 non‐rheumatic disease individuals were selected for comparison. An experienced radiologist reviewed 24 CV, 20 CTr, 2 SC, and 1 MS joints from a thorax CT for each patient. All joints were classified as: normal (0); suspicious (1), mild (2), moderate (3), or severe (4). Results: Total CV and CTr joint scores differed between diseases (p <.001). Male AS patients had higher CV and CTr scores than female AS patients (male CV score: 52 [range 0–96] and CTr score: 22 [range 0–80]; female CV score: 20 [range 0–96] and CTr score: 12 [range 0–79]). Strong negative correlations were detected in AS patients between chest expansion and CV (r = −0.703 p =.007) and CTr (r = −0.763 p =.002) joint involvement; positive correlations between CV and CTr joints, and modified Stoke Ankylosing Spondylitis Spinal Score (p <.05); and no significant association for MS and SC joints. Conclusions: CV and CTr joint involvement on thorax CT was more severe in AS and negatively affected chest expansion. The use of thorax CT scans performed for other indications in the examination of these joints may be advantageous for the early beginning of rehabilitation programs targeted at maintaining chest mobility. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) frequency and clinical characteristics among patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or spondyloarthritis (SpA) who receive biological treatments. Patients and methods: The observational study was conducted with patients from the TReasure database, a web-based prospective observational registry collecting data from 17 centers across Türkiye, between December 2017 and June 2021. From this database, 3,147 RA patients (2,502 males, 645 females; median age 56 years; range, 44 to 64 years) and 6,071 SpA patients (2,709 males, 3,362 females; median age 43 years; range, 36 to 52 years) were analyzed in terms of viral hepatitis, patient characteristics, and treatments used. Results: The screening rate for HBV was 97% in RA and 94.2% in SpA patients. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) positivity rates were 2.6% and 2%, hepatitis B surface antibody positivity rates were 32.3% and 34%, hepatitis B core antibody positivity rates were 20.3% and 12.5%, HBV DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) positivity rates were 3.5% and 12.5%, and antibody against HCV positivity rates were 0.8% and 0.3% in RA and SpA patients, respectively. The HBsAg-positive patients were older and had more comorbidities, including hypertension, diabetes, and coronary artery disease. In addition, rheumatoid factor (RF) positivity was more common in HBsAg-positive cases. The most frequently prescribed biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs were adalimumab (28.5%), etanercept (27%), tofacitinib (23.4%), and tocilizumab (21.5%) in the RA group and adalimumab (48.1%), etanercept (31.4%), infliximab (22.6%), and certolizumab (21.1%) in the SpA group. Hepatitis B reactivation was observed in one RA patient during treatment, who received rituximab and prophylaxis with tenofovir. Conclusion: The epidemiological characteristics of patients with rheumatic diseases and viral hepatitis are essential for effective patient management. This study provided the most recent epidemiological characteristics from the prospective TReasure database, one of the comprehensive registries in rheumatology practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
