This study aims to evaluate how the polycentric urbanization process of Ankara has focused increasingly on rural areas. This movement from urban to rural areas of polycentric urbanization, which refers to the development and expansion of multiple centers in different regions of a city, is inevitable. This study examines the urbanization process of Ankara, how this process has evolved during different periods, and the effects of urbanization on rural areas, by evaluating the data related to the transfer of property ownership rights in Ankara. Within the scope of the research, property ownership transfer data from 2012 to 2023 in Ankara were spatially analyzed using ArcGIS software. Purchase and sale data for different periods demonstrated the increase in the density of rural areas and the subsequent development of new centers. Consideration of the process of urbanization, shaped by variables such as population growth, infrastructure needs, the reduction of agricultural lands, and migration, provides an opportunity to assess the future urbanization dynamics of Ankara. Furthermore, evaluation of the changes in property transactions enabled a projection to be made regarding how urban development in 2030 is likely to unfold. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is critical to comprehend the impact of the physical environment on the spatial patterns of endemic plant species in order to be considered in the development of conservation strategies, especially in areas with semi-arid climatic conditions such as Malatya Province, Turkey. The research uses the GIS-based spatial evaluation and zonal statistics techniques to discuss the influence of elevation, slope, aspect, geology, soil, temperature, and precipitation on the occurrence of 36 local endemic plant species. The results indicate a distinct peak of endemicity at moderate environmental extremes--in particular, in mid-range altitude (1000m-2000m), between 15° and 25° slopes and limestone units. It was noted that the soil properties of Nitrogen 201-300 cg/kg and moisture retention properties of 301-310 units, plus the hydrological variable (stream density of 0.2-0.3) influence species expansion a lot. Also, these findings depend on the interrelations of different factors-forming topography, soil, water, and rock layers. The research points out the need to include physical environmental parameters into conservation plans in order to preserve endemic species effectively despite the impacts of climate shifts and human activities. Where such species exist, this work aids in conservation development since it identifies the particular conditions that are conducive to the existence of endemic species and why they are important in improving interactions between organisms and the environment in semi-arid regions. Lakes have a dynamic change structure due to their origin of formation, elevation level, depth, hydrographic feeding sources, differences in climatic conditions and interaction with anthropogenic factors. In this study, it was aimed to analyse the inter-annual (1984-2024) and monthly surface area and lake colour changes of Işıklı Lake (Denizli-Çivril). In the study; Landsat satellite images of 1984, 1994, 2004, 2014 and 2024 at 10-year intervals and Sentinel satellite images of each month of 2023 and meteorological data were used as materials. Long and short term water surface areas were determined by NDWI analysis from the mentioned satellite images. Then, the dominant value of the visible wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum of each satellite image was determined. The long and short term colour of the lake was determined with the data obtained from here. In the study, aquatic plant and chlorophyll distribution density of the lake was also determined based on the average values subjected to GCI analysis. Finally, monthly lake surface area, lake colour, long-term average monthly temperature and precipitation values were correlated and the level of connection between them was examined. The findings obtained show that the lake surface lost 30.3 km2 of area from 1984 to 2024 and the lake shrunk by 48.7%. In 2023, it was determined from the monthly water surface area peak data that the lake surface was 42 km2 in March and decreased to 16 km2 in September. It was determined that the lake colour was blue in March and green in September due to aquatic plants, water loss and eutrophication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The negative impacts of climate change, such as increasing competition among species, habitat loss, and spatial shifts, have a strong influence on species distribution areas. Species distribution models are an important tool for protecting species from the adverse effects of climate change and for conserving biodiversity. In this study, the spatial impact of climate change on the distribution of the Narince (Vitis vinifera) cultivar, which has a natural distribution in Turkey, was predicted using the MaxEnt model. To determine how the species' distribution areas would be affected by climate change, the HadGEM3-GC31-LL climate model, developed based on the principles of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6), was used. The potential distribution of the Narince cultivar for the periods 2041-2060 and 2081-2100 was modeled under SSP 2.45 and SSP 5.85 scenarios. The results of the study show that the predicted current distribution area of Narince (Vitis vinifera) cultivar corresponds to its present geographic distribution. Under current climate conditions, suitable areas for the Narince cultivar are calculated as 21.837 km², highly suitable areas as 5.169 km², and the total suitable area as 27.006 km². For the future climate change scenarios, under the SSP 2.45 scenario, the total suitable areas are predicted to be 22,877 km² for the 2041-2060 period and 24,225 km² for the 2081-2100 period. Under the SSP 5.85 scenario, the total suitable areas are estimated to be 23.908 km² for the 2041-2060 period and 22.781 km² for the 2081-2100 period. According to our findings, it has been determined that the spatial distribution of the species will change under future climate change scenarios, and its distribution in Turkey is expected to decrease. NATURAL gas ,GRAND strategy (Political science) ,NATIONAL parks & reserves ,PETROLEUM industry - Abstract
The Government of Indonesia has decided to shift away from oil to natural gas as the strategy of national oil & gas security. This means, more natural gas projects on the coming years. But there's a fact that projects overrun are becoming "global phenomenon". This might hinder the Governments' strategy becoming reality. To address this, Author had simulated a case study of an imaginary subsea field development concept selection. 2 scenarios had been given to be analyzed which one was the best in terms of cost efficiency. CAPEX estimate of both scenarios were initiated by determining class of estimates with regards to AACE RP 18R-97. Later, creation of multidimensional WBS with regards to ISO 19008. Finally, the WBS was applied to the relevant US National Park Standard Template as a CBS. The case study concluded that proper selection of estimating method, application of multidimensional WBS/CBS (ISO 19008) on to the standard estimation template would significantly increase the CAPEX budget visibility as well as traceability. Hence, this would significantly increase the quality of the CAPEX estimate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The year 2023 represents a 100-year period of becoming a country for Türkiye. This study examines the urban expansion evolution of Konya in Turkey over a century of urbanization. The expansion process is assessed through the analysis of urban plans from 1923, 1945, 1967, 2000, and 2023 using (1) density calculation derived from the population divided by built-up cells and (2) density calculation utilizing Inverse S function based on land use data. Considering the calculated densities, the city's evolution over a hundred years is examined concerning evolving regulations land use decisions, and growth trajectories. The existing conditions, encompassing both the advantageous and disadvantageous facets of urban expansion, are examined using SWOT analysis, and spatial development strategies for the future are devised. As a result, it has been determined that Konya has undergone urban expansion in certain directions irregularly, attributed to transportation-focused planning decisions, deviating from human-scale and compact urban development. - Abstract
The purpose of this article is to discuss how the state intervention Collaboration for the Best School (CBS) governs principals in Swedish compulsory schools. CBS is a government assignment to the Swedish National Agency for Education which has been ongoing since 2015, and targets schools with low results that are not expected to be able to reverse this trend on their own. The article is based on interviews with compulsory school principals who have participated in SBS. One result of the study is that the principals are generally insecure in their leadership and welcome the government’s support, which especially focuses on developing the systematic quality work. According to Foucault (2008), this means that the state through various technologies of power controls and regulates the principals’ behavior, in order to increase students’ knowledge development and produce higher grades. The idea of effective intervention is a central aspect within evidence-based practice, i.e. administering a treatment to achieve a certain effect (Biesta, 2007). This is an international phenomenon based on a Taylorist approach that has emerged since the 1990s with sanction system and public ranking of education (Uljens, 2021a, 2021b). Research on possible consequences of CBS is still limited, therefore this study can contribute in this field through analysis of collected empirical material. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, the suitable sites for rainwater harvesting of the Serinhisar watershed were determined by accepting the watershed characteristics affecting the rainwater harvesting as criteria and weighting these criteria. For this purpose, a Geographical Information System (GIS) application integrated with the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is one of the Multi-Criteria Decision Making methods, was implemented. Firstly, the watershed model was created in the GIS environment and the slope and drainage density criteria were obtained from this model. One of the criteria, the land use data, was combined with the soil class data in the GIS environment to obtain the Curve Number (CN) data. By using this CN data and watershed precipitation data, runoff data and accordingly the last criterion, the runoff potential, were obtained with the Soil Conservation Service -- Curve Number (SCS-CN) Method. The criteria, which were given importance and weighted according to each other in the AHP steps by reclassification, were combined in a single map according to their weights and presented as a suitability map. It is very important that fire trucks can reach the fire scene quickly during an emergency. In this direction, many factors such as the location of fire stations in the city, road conditions, road network, adequacy of fire brigade equipment, type of fire, etc. have a first-degree effect on the fast or slow response to the incident. The study area covers Eyyübiye, Haliliye, and Karaköprü districts, which are the central districts of Şanlıurfa. There are a total of 5 fire stations in these districts. When we look at the ratio of fires in the central districts to all fires in the study area between 2020-2023, it corresponds to 19.72% of building fires, 10.19% of workplace fires, 7.2% of vehicle fires, and 5.37% of garbagelandfill and forest fires. In 2023, the highest number of fires occurred in Haliliye district with 1,098. In Eyyübiye District 749 and Karaköprü district 595 fire incidents occurred. In the light of this information, in the study, the access time of the existing 5 fire stations in Şanlıurfa central districts (Haliliye, Eyyübiye, Karaköprü) was calculated by using Geographical Information Systems (GIS). While calculating the access time of fire trucks, buffer analysis was performed in ArcGIS 10.8. Based on the fire stations in the central districts, an impact area from 500 m to 75 km was determined and the access time of fire trucks was calculated as a zone. While the access time between 500 m-10. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Classical homocystinuria is an inborn amino acid metabolism disorder resulting from mutations in the Cystathionine-β-Synthase (CBS) gene. These mutations lead to elevated homocysteine and methionine levels and reduced cysteine levels in the blood. Typically, diagnosis occurs after patients display symptoms, and various lab methods confirm it. DNA sequencing is the best option for early detection of genetic variants in asymptomatic suspected individuals. Unfortunately, its high cost can hinder its use, especially in low-income countries like Pakistan. Aim of this study was to devise a robust low-cost diagnostic/screening assay based on Tetra-ARMS-PCR for five prevalent genetic variants found in Pakistani classical homocystinuria patients. In the current study, T-ARMS-PCR assays were developed for five mutations (c.975G > C, c.770C > T, c.752T > C, c.1039 + 1G > T, c.451 + 1GG > TA), which were characterized previously in classical homocystinuria patients. These low-cost T-ARMS-PCR assays were then used to screen the affected individuals and their family members to identify their genotypes for pathogenic variations in the asymptomatic patients and carriers in their respective families. The outcomes were entirely consistent with those obtained from Sanger DNA sequencing, confirming the sensitivity, specificity, and reliability of the T-ARMS-PCR assay for detecting CBS mutations. T-ARMS-PCR has wide applications for low-income countries for the screening and early diagnosis of asymptomatic patients and carriers in the homocystinuria affected families as well as other inherited diseases.

Chestnuts with high economic and socio-cultural value (Castanea sativa Mill.) must determine forests' spatial and climatic characteristics to improve them, increase fruit yield, and effectively combat diseases and pests. This study aimed to determine the spatial and climatic attributes of pure chestnut forests spreading within the borders of the Zonguldak Forestry Regional Directorate. A total of six criteria were used for spatial and climatic analyses: total precipitation (mm/year), annual mean temperature (C°), wind speed (m/s), altitude (m), slope (%), and aspect (°). Climate values were calculated as maximum, minimum, and average values, respectively; 1 619.25, 866.95, and 1 024.07 mm/year for total precipitation (mm/year), 13, 6 and 11.76 C° for annual mean temperature (C°), 6.62, 0.22 and 2.46 m/s for wind speed (m/s). The spatial characteristics were calculated as 1 221.68, 33.24, and 300.23 m for the height (m), 32.43%, 7.34%, and 18.63% for the slope (%) and finally, 338.63°, 18.18° and 184.18° for the angle (°), respectively, in terms of maximum, minimum and average values. Bartın Forest Management Directorate (FMD) ranks first with 57.18% of the natural chestnut forests spread the most in the study area, while Zonguldak FMD ranks second with 21.45% and Ulus FMD ranks third with 17.13%. The results obtained from the study based on the location and climate will contribute to the selection of the most suitable place for the new chestnut forest afforestation studies to be established and increase the percentage of success.

- Abstract
Land consolidation can be considered as a rural revitalization project encompassing the aggregation of fragmented parcels, the creation of agricultural parcels suitable for farming, the organization of rural roads, and the establishment of irrigation and drainage systems, alongside the provision of sociocultural facilities. These evaluation methods can assist policymakers, land administrators, and decision-makers, especially considering the rapid progress of land consolidation projects in Türkiye, in improving these projects that require high costs and significant efforts. In the monitoring and evaluation of land consolidation projects, numerous researchers have developed methods. In land consolidation projects, among the project objectives are achieving the optimal parcel size due to the growth of enterprise and providing road services to all parcels. Research in the literature is still lacking in terms of evaluating the distances of parcels from the village centre and the densities of the rural roads constructed in land consolidation projects, in addition to the optimal parcel size. The use of geographic information systems (GIS) can be valuable in the evaluation of land consolidation projects, as GIS-generated maps not only aid in assessment but also provide easily understandable interpretations. The aim of this study is to examine road lengths before and after a land consolidation project, as well as the spatial changes of parcels, using geographic information systems. The cadastral data of Tatkınlık Village in Arguvan District of Malatya Province constitute the main material of the research. In line with this objective, geospatial analyses were conducted using Kernel Density and Line Density tools. The ArcMAP program's Model Builder Tool was employed to process the data obtained from NetCAD. As a result of the research, it was observed that road density increased in areas where parcel sizes decreased. The regions with the highest parcel and road density are situated around the village centre. In addition to the optimal size of agricultural operations, the distance to the village centre also affects fuel expenses. Therefore, the aggregation of small-scale parcels around the village centre can be considered one of the indicators of success for land consolidation projects. Density analyses can assist decision-makers in evaluating, interpreting, and determining priority land consolidation areas. Additionally, the indicators for road lengths developed in this study can be utilized in studies conducted on road lengths. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
In case of natural disasters, it is vital that accurate information is delivered to disasters managers through correct communication channels at a correct time. The technological infrastructure of law enforcement can be categorized into three main areas: communication technologies, information query technologies, and geographic information systems. Coordination and the correct channeling of resources in post-disaster search and rescue operations and support services are paramount. Within this framework, communication emerges as the fundamental need. Initially, the need for emergency communication was met through the narrow band JEMUS system, then through wired and GSM infrastructures repaired; high data requirement was met through broad band systems. Following the adoption of broad band capabilities in disaster management centers, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) began to be utilized in disaster management, planning efforts, and data analysis. Safety and security services were initially operated over narrow band systems and later supported by broad band systems. Ensuring that personnel in the field can take the most appropriate actions without delay highlights that communication is the most critical service required for disaster management and coordination. The significance of instant sharing of data or high-resolution multimedia content such as photos and videos, remote access to institutional databases, access to biometric data, utilization of geographic information systems, and the use of law enforcement technologies were underscored by the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. In addition to all other preparations, supporting the decision-making processes of disaster managers and ensuring coordination to reduce loss of life and property, and to provide the best possible assistance to disaster victims through the efficient use of resources underscores the significant role of law enforcement technologies. WATER pollution , *BIOCHEMICAL oxygen demand , *POLLUTANTS , *DRINKING water ,DAM Lake (Oneida County, Wis.) - Abstract
This study aims to examine the effects of pollution coming from point sources within the basin of Kesikköprü dam lake, which is considered a source of drinking water supply for Ankara province, considering the increasing population between 2022 and 2050, and the wastewater. The point sources of pollution in a region include domestic and industrial wastewater and solid waste leachate incoming to the receiving environment. A methodology for calculating total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total suspended solids (TSS) loads, which are pollutant loads coming from point sources, is presented and region-specific findings and results are obtained. The study area is divided into 33 sub-basins and point pollution sources in each sub-basin are determined. The loads occurring in these sources are calculated according to unit pollution values. In addition to the pollution loads from point sources existing in the basin in 2022, the change in loads in 5-year periods between 2022 and 2050 is also estimated according to the population projection in the region. Thematic maps showing the spatial distribution of the results are created using ArcGIS 10.8. The calculated point source pollution loads reveal that if no improvement for wastewater treatment is made by 2050, they will increase parallel to the population growth, creating a significant pollution load on the dam lake from which drinking water is supplied, and negatively affecting water quality in the reservoir. Abstract Homocysteine (Hcy), produced physiologically in all cells, is an intermediate metabolite of methionine and cysteine metabolism. Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) resulting from an in-born error of metabolism that leads to accumulation of high levels of Hcy, is associated with vascular damage, neurodegeneration and cognitive decline. Using a HHcy model in neuronal cells, primary cortical neurons and transgenic zebrafish, we demonstrate diminished autophagy and Hcy-induced neurotoxicity associated with mitochondrial dysfunction, fragmentation and apoptosis. We find this mitochondrial dysfunction is due to Hcy-induced proteotoxicity leading to ER stress. We show this sustained proteotoxicity originates from the perturbation of upstream autophagic pathways through an aberrant activation of mTOR and that protetoxic stress act as a feedforward cues to aggravate a sustained ER stress that culminate to mitochondrial apoptosis in HHcy model systems. Using chemical chaperones to mitigate sustained ER stress, Hcy-induced proteotoxicity and consequent neurotoxicity were rescued. We also rescue neuronal lethality by activation of autophagy and thereby reducing proteotoxicity and ER stress. Our findings pave the way to devise new strategies for the treatment of neural and cognitive pathologies reported in HHcy, by either activation of upstream autophagy or by suppression of downstream ER stress.
