ABSTRACT This paper presents a novel angle track converter for sinusoidal encoders. These encoders provide electronic signals in which the position is encoded in sinusoidal form. This work aims to reduce the complexity and enhance the conversion speed of the sinusoidal‐to‐angle demodulation system. Considering the periodicity of sine and cosine signals (SCSs), the full range [0,2π)$$ \left[0,2\pi \right) $$ is evenly divided into eight segments to determine the coarse angle. According to the specific coarse angle segment, the SCSs are reshaped for proceeding demodulation. Then a fine angle is derived from reshaped signals based on division and arctangent algorithm. Division operation is achieved by a capacitor digital‐to‐analog converter, dynamic comparator, and successive approximation register. The arctangent value is obtained from the division result with the compensation by a small‐size look‐up table. The new converter fabricated in 0.18‐μ$$ \upmu $$m BCD technology occupies an active area of 0.16 mm2 and consumes 1.5 mW at the sample rate 10 MHz. The measured maximum error is 1.8°, in the full range. Without analog‐to‐digital converters and no nonlinear operation unit, the proposed angle track converter has a significant advantage in cost, speed, and efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper introduces a systematic approach to the design of Direct Current-to-Digital Converter (DIDC) specifically engineered to overcome the limitations of traditional current measurement methodologies in System-on-Chip (SoC) designs. The proposed DIDC addresses critical challenges such as high power consumption, large area requirements, and the need for intermediate analog signals. By incorporating a current mirror in a cascode topology and managing the current across multiple binary-sized branches with the Successive Approximation Register (SAR) logic, the design achieves precise current measurement. A simple comparator, coupled with an isolation circuit, ensures accurate and reliable sensing. Fabricated using the TSMC 180 nm process, the DIDC achieves 8-bit precision without the need for nonlinearity calibration, showcasing remarkable energy efficiency with an energy per conversion of 1.52 pJ, power consumption of 117 µW, and a compact area of 0.016 mm². This innovative approach not only reduces power consumption and area, but also provides a scalable and efficient solution for next-generation semiconductor technologies. The ability to conduct online measurements during both standard operations and in-field conditions significantly enhances the performance and reliability of SoCs, making this DIDC a promising advancement in the field. Purpose: This paper presents a novel low-power, low input offset rail-to-rail comparator that is suitable for a digital dominant successive approximation resistor analog-to-digital converter. The proposed comparator is based on traditional inverters cascaded to amplify analog signals and digital logic level conversion. The absence of a direct path between the high-swing output node and the input node restricts kickback noise. Design/methodology/approach: The proposed circuit is designed and simulated using UMC 28 nm and 40 nm CMOS technology. The simulated power consumption using UMC 40 nm CMOS technology is 6.2084 μW at 1.1 V (330.8nW at 700 mV) supply voltage at the 2.5 MHz clock frequency. Similarly, simulated power consumption using UMC 28 nm technology is 0.04104μW at 900 mV (0.0097μW at 600 mV) and supply voltage operating at 66.66 MHz clock frequency with a resolution of a maximum of 12 bits, therefore, a reduction of more than 90% in power consumption observed by scaling technology node. Findings: The conventional power-efficient clock-controlled latched comparator does not have a static current during the entire operation. The main drawbacks are the limited input range and the the kickback noise. However, a large voltage swing on the drain of a differential pair, due to this current feeding through a parasitic drain gate capacitor to the input node and the presence of source impedance, results in kickback noise. The performance of the ADC can be hampered by excessive kickback noise, which can eventually cause an incorrect comparator output. An inverter-based comparator is reported, where the input range is rail-to-rail and operates at moderate speed. Modern scaled technologies have better matching among transistors, i.e. matching of switching threshold voltage achieved by selecting suitable aspect ratios of transistors (cascaded inverters). Inverter-based dynamic comparators are inherently power-scalable and switching threshold voltage scales with supply voltage variation. Therefore, the amplification operation is not hampered by the reduction of the supply voltage. Originality/value: The proposed architecture is compared with a set of existing hardware architectures to analyse various design metrics, such as low input offset, power scalability to maintain the resolution of the comparator, and low kickback noise. Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) technology is one of the nanotechnologies which attracted a great deal of consideration because of features like the speed of the circuit, low-power utilization and small size. In digital electronics, the comparator plays a vital role, due to its vast area of applications like state machine design, digital testing and fault tolerance, digital control systems, etc. This paper proposes a 4-bit/8-bit/16-bit comparator in QCA technology using the XOR Gate. The proposed method is an efficient method, which has two stages: finding whether the inputs are equal or not in stage 1 and less than or greater than in stage 2 using an XOR gate. The proposed comparator circuits have less area and cost with less delay as compared to the previous works. The proposed energy calculations are carried out with the QCA DesignerE tool, and it is observed that the proposed structures are energy efficient. In addition, the proposed comparators are simulated and synthesized with Vivado design suite 2021.1 and implemented on the Virtex UltraScale VCU129-PP FPGA board. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper investigates the changes in the waveform of a sinusoidal carrier resulting from amplitude modulation (AM) process. Based on this analysis, a novel method for extracting amplitude information is proposed. The proposed method uses the behaviour of the amplitude limitation which does not significantly affect the slope of the sinusoidal signal near zero crossing points. A simple comparator is used to convert the changes in sinusoidal slope near zero crossing points into pulse width changes. A simple circuit is proposed which keeps the output pulse width of the comparator constant by a simple control loop. The accuracy of the method is evaluated through simulation and is experimentally tested. If the modulation index is high and the amplitude of the input signal to the detector is limited, the proposed method can yield up at least 9 dB improvement in relative error power. However, if the modulation index is small, the improvement in relative error power can be at least 35 dB compared to other conventional types of AM demodulators. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a novel footless single clock-phase three-stage comparator with internally generated regenerative voltage signals for low kickback noise and high speed. The preamplifier and clocked latch topology of dynamic comparators are considered in this brief. The proposed design has been compared by analyzing and optimizing three state-of-the-art comparator designs: Modified StrongARM, Miyahara’s and Three-Stage. These designs are simulated using the 40nm CMOS technology process. The area of the proposed comparator is 28.025μm2. When simulated in the SPICE-based simulator HSPICE, under typical performance conditions of 0.9V supply voltage, 25∘C, 1 GHz operational frequency, typical process corner (tt), and 1mV differential voltage, the proposed comparator produces the best post-layout results, with a minimum delay of 59.9ps from meta-stability analysis, energy per comparison of 0.175pJ/comparison and a kickback noise of 44.55 μA. The proposed design also shows a significant improvement in the measured performance parameters over the other state-of-the-art dynamic comparators that have been discussed in this brief. ABSTRACT Background Objective Materials and Methods Results Conclusion IRB Protocol Number Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling produces patient discomfort which deters patients from completing the recommended treatment series.The primary objective was to determine the tolerability, safety, and efficacy of a neurocosmetic postprocedure cream post‐RF microneedling in reducing patient discomfort and enhancing recovery across the length of the study and, secondarily, to evaluate against a leading comparator. The third objective was to evaluate the efficacy of the neurocosmetic on self‐perceived improvement and objective grading.An Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved, fourteen‐day, randomized, single‐center, double‐blind, controlled clinical case study was conducted with 11 healthy female subjects, 6 randomized to the neurocosmetic and 5 to the comparator cell. Following a 7‐day washout period, subjects received RF microneedling (face and neck) and applied the postprocedure cream twice daily for 7 days. Objective and subjective tolerability, self‐assessments, and clinical photography were performed immediately postprocedure, 24 h, three and seven days following the procedure.The neurocosmetic was tolerable and safe. Erythema and stinging immediately decreased postprocedure, postneurocosmetic application. Objective: To assess comparative effectiveness, safety, and tolerability of off‐label rituximab, compared with frequently used therapies approved for multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods: A Swedish cohort study of persons with relapsing–remitting MS, age 18 to 75 years at inclusion and with a first therapy start or a first therapy switch between 2011 and 2018. Low‐dose rituximab was compared with MS‐approved therapies. Primary outcomes were proportions with 12 months confirmed disability worsening and change in MS Impact Scale‐29 (MSIS‐29) scores, respectively. Secondary endpoints included relapses, therapy discontinuation, and serious adverse events. Analyses used an intention‐to‐treat approach and were adjusted for demographics, MS features, and health characteristics. Results: We included 2,449 participants as first therapy start and 2,463 as first therapy switch. Proportions with disability worsening at 3 years were 9.1% for rituximab as first therapy and 5.1% after therapy switch, with no differences to MS‐approved comparators. Worsening on rituximab was mostly independent of relapses. MSIS‐29 with rituximab at 3 years improved by 1.3/8.4 points (physical/psychological) for first disease‐modifying therapy (DMT) and 0.4/3.6 for DMT switch, and was mostly similar across therapies. Rituximab had lower relapse rates and higher therapy persistence in both groups. The rate of hospital‐treated infections was higher with rituximab after a therapy switch, but not as a first therapy. Interpretation: This population‐based real‐world cohort study found low rates of disability progression, mostly independent of relapses, and without significant differences between rituximab and MS‐approved comparators. Rituximab led to lower rates of inflammatory activity and higher treatment persistence, but was associated with an increased rate of serious infections. Following a request from the European Commission, the GMO Panel assessed additional information related to the application for authorisation of food and feed containing, consisting of and produced from genetically modified soybean MON × MON 87708 × MON 89788 (EFSA‐GMO‐NL‐2015‐126). The applicant conducted a 90‐day feeding study on GM soybean MON 87705 and provided a proposal for post‐market monitoring considering the altered fatty acid profile of GM soybean MON 87705 × MON 87708 × MON 89788, to fulfil the deficiencies identified by EFSA GMO Panel, addressing elements that remained inconclusive from a previous EFSA scientific opinion issued in 2020. The GMO Panel concludes that the 90‐day feeding study on GM soybean MON 87705 is in line with the requirements of Regulation (EU) No 503/2013 and that no treatment‐related adverse effects were observed in rats after feeding diets containing soybean MON 87705 meals at 30% or 15% for 90 days. The GMO Panel reiterates the recommendation for a PMM for food in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 and Regulation (EU) No 503/2013 and concludes that the proposal provided by the applicant is in line with the recommendations described for the PMM plan of soybean MON 87705 × MON 87708 × MON 89788 in the adopted scientific opinion. Taking into account the previous assessment and the new information, the GMO Panel concludes that soybean MON 87705 × MON 87708 × MON 89788, as assessed in the scientific opinion on application EFSA‐GMO‐NL‐2015‐126 and in the supplementary toxicity study, is as safe as its non‐GM comparator and the non‐GM reference varieties tested and does not represent a nutritional concern in humans and animals, within the scope of this application. Background and Aim: Few population‐based studies have investigated the association between metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and depression. Additionally, it remains unclear if depression affects progression to major adverse liver outcomes (MALO) in MASLD. Methods: All patients in Sweden with newly diagnosed MASLD between 2006 and 2020 were identified from the National Patient Register. Each patient was matched on age, sex, inclusion year, and municipality with up to 10 comparators from the general population. Cox regression was used to compare rates of severe depression in persons with MASLD to the comparators. In persons with MASLD, Cox regression was used to estimate rates of MALO using severe depression before baseline or diagnosed during follow‐up as a time‐varying exposure. Results: We included 11 301 persons with MASLD and 104 205 comparators who were followed for a median of 3.9 (IQR 1.5–7.6) and 4.9 years (IQR 2.3–8.7), respectively. The median age was 56 years and 5576 of 11 301 (49.3%) persons with MASLD were male. Incident severe depression developed in 228 of 11 301 (2.0%) persons with MASLD and 1160 of 104 205 (1.1%) comparators (fully adjusted hazard ratio [HR] = 1.8, 95% CI = 1.5–2.1). Of persons with MASLD, 25 of 1229 (2.0%) of those with severe depression before or after baseline progressed to MALO compared to 322 of 10 326 (3.1%) of those without severe depression (fully adjusted HR = 1.0, 95% CI =.6–1.5). Conclusions: We confirm an association between MASLD and severe depression. Objectives: To describe the uptake of anti-SARS-CoV2 vaccination in 2021 and investigate vaccine effectiveness in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients in Sweden. Methods: The cumulative incidence of first anti-SARS-CoV2 vaccination was estimated among SLE patients from the Swedish National Patient Register and matched comparators living in Sweden on January 1, 2021. To assess vaccine effectiveness, we included the individuals who received two doses of anti-SARS-CoV2 mRNA vaccines before year 2022, with no COVID-19 diagnosis code before the 2nd vaccine dose. Hospitalization rates with COVID-19 as main diagnosis during the year after second dose were compared between SLE patients and comparators in multivariable-adjusted marginal Cox models, overall and stratified by immunosuppressive treatment received during the year before second vaccine dose. Results: Vaccination uptake was similar between SLE patients and comparators. By December 2021, 9% of both SLE and comparators had not received any vaccine doses. Among 5585 SLE patients and 37,102 comparators, 11 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the SLE group and 20 in the comparators occurred. SLE was associated with a higher risk of COVID-19 hospitalization (HR = 3.47, 95%CI 1.63-7.39). The HR was higher for immunosuppressive-treated SLE (7.03 95%CI 3.00-16.46) than for immunosuppressive-untreated (1.50 95%CI 0.34-6.60). Vaccination of immunosuppressive-untreated SLE patients had similar effectiveness as comparators. Conclusion: Anti-SARS-CoV2 vaccination coverage was similar between SLE patients and the general population in Sweden. Even though the incidence of post-vaccination COVID-19 hospitalization was very low, vaccine effectiveness was diminished in SLE patients compared to the general population and lowest in those treated with immunosuppressants. Aim: Non‐randomized studies on bariatric surgery have reported large reductions in mortality within 6‐12 months after surgery compared with non‐surgical patients. It is unclear whether these findings are the result of bias. Study Design and Setting: We searched PubMed to identify all non‐randomized studies investigating the effect of bariatric surgery on all‐cause mortality compared with non‐surgical patients. We assessed these studies for potential confounding and time‐related biases. We conducted bias analyses to quantify the effect of these biases. Results: We identified 21 cohort studies that met our inclusion criteria. Among those, 11 were affected by immortal time bias resulting from the misclassification or exclusion of relevant follow‐up time. Five studies were subject to potential confounding bias because of a lack of adjustment for body mass index (BMI). All studies used an inadequate comparator group that lacked indications for bariatric surgery. Bias analyses to correct for potential confounding from BMI shifted the effect estimates towards the null [reported hazard ratio (HR): 0.78 vs. bias‐adjusted HR: 0.92]. Bias analyses to correct for the presence of immortal time also shifted the effect estimates towards the null (adjustment for 2‐year wait time: reported HR: 0.57 vs. bias‐adjusted HR: 0.81). Conclusion: Several important sources of bias were identified in non‐randomized studies of the effectiveness of bariatric surgery versus non‐surgical comparators on mortality. Future studies should ensure that confounding by BMI is accounted for, considering the choice of the comparator group, and that the design or analysis avoids immortal time bias from the misclassification or exclusion. Background and Objectives: Animal studies have suggested a link between benzodiazepine and related Z-drug (BZDR) use and immune dysfunction. Corresponding evidence in humans is limited and focuses mainly on pneumonia. This study aimed to assess the association of incident BZDR use with subsequent development of serious infections. Methods: This Swedish register-based study included a population-based demographically matched cohort, a co-twin control cohort, and an active comparator cohort. Out of 7,362,979 individuals aged below 65 years who were BZDR naïve by 2007, 713,896 BZDR recipients with incident dispensation of any BZDRs between 2007 and 2019 were 1:1 matched to 713,896 nonrecipients from the general population; 9197 BZDR recipients were compared with their 9298 unexposed co-twins/co-multiples; and 434,900 BZDR recipients were compared with 428,074 incident selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) recipients. The outcomes were identified by the first inpatient or specialist outpatient diagnosis of serious infections in the National Patient Register, or death from any infections recorded as the underlying cause in the Cause of Death Register. Cox proportional hazards regression models were fitted and controlled for multiple confounders, including familial confounding and confounding by indication. To study a possible dose–response association, the cumulative dosage of BZDRs dispensed during the follow-up was estimated for each BZDR recipient and modeled as a time-varying exposure with dose categories in tertiles [≤ 20 defined daily doses (DDDs), > 20 DDDs ≤ 65, and > 65 DDDs). The risk of infections was assessed in BZDR recipients within each category of the cumulative BZDR dosage compared to their demographically matched nonrecipients. Results: In the demographically matched cohort (average age at incident BZDR use 42.8 years, 56.9% female), the crude incidence rate of any serious infections in BZDR recipients and matched nonrecipients during 1-year follow-up was 4.18 [95% confidence intervals (CI) 4.13–4.23] and 1.86 (95% CI 1.83–1.89) per 100 person-years, respectively. After controlling for demographic, socioeconomic, clinical, and pharmacological confounders, BZDR use was associated with 83% relative increase in risk of any infections [hazard ratio (HR) 1.83, 95% CI 1.79–1.89]. The risk remained increased, although attenuated, in the co-twin cohort (HR 1.55, 95% CI 1.23–1.97) and active comparator cohort (HR 1.33, 95% CI 1.30–1.35). The observed risks were similar across different types of initial BZDRs and across individual BZDRs, and the risks increased with age at BZDR initiation. We also observed a dose–response association between cumulative BZDR dosage and risk of serious infections. Conclusions: BZDR initiation was associated with increased risks of serious infections, even when considering unmeasured familial confounding and confounding by indication. The exact pathways through which BZDRs may affect immune function, however, remain unclear. Further studies are needed to explore the neurobiological mechanisms underlying the association between BZDR use and serious infections, as it can lead to safer therapeutic strategies for patients requiring BZDR. This paper introduces a low-power fully differential fixed window level-crossing analog-to-digital converter (LC-ADC) for wireless medical implantable devices. The LC-ADC could be an excellent candidate for low-power systems due to the reduction of sampling points for bio-potential signals. Different from existing fixed window LC-ADCs, which use a 1-bit DAC or scaler and two reference levels to move the input signal to the comparison window, a simplified scheme is proposed in which the DAC or scaler is removed and a single-reference level is used to create the comparison window. The proposed LC-ADC utilizes a single-reference comparator, which leads to a simplified implementation and significant reduction in power consumption and circuit area. In addition, using a single reference level and removing DAC, leads to a decrease in the complexity of the controlling logic. The proposed LC-ADC is simulated in 0.18 μ m CMOS technology. The simulation results achieve an effective number of bits (ENOB) of up to 6.5 bits with about 59–141 nW power consumption under 0.8 V supply and input signal bandwidth from 5 Hz to 4 kHz. Context. With the advent of large spectroscopic surveys, automated stellar parameter determination has become commonplace. Nevertheless, spectral classification still offers a quick and useful alternative for obtaining parameter estimates for large samples of spectra of varying quality. Aims. We present a new atlas of stellar spectra covering the B-type range, with the intention of providing detailed classification criteria valid for modern spectra and improving the grid of reliable standards. This new grid will be used in future works to provide classification criteria beyond the classical classification range and addressing, in particular, the use of Gaia/RVS spectra. Methods. We analysed historical standards by means of multiple high-resolution spectra, marking out problematic cases and complementing the grid with a new set of reliable comparators. We then elaborated on a new set of classification criteria based on high-quality R = 4000 spectra. Results. Our new classification grid is much thicker than any previous set of standards, presenting a high degree of self-consistency. Although it is based entirely on morphological criteria, the grid demonstrates a much better correlation with different physical parameters. Conclusions. The new grid can be used to study classification criteria in other spectral ranges, providing a valuable tool for the study of B-type stars that covers a very wide range of temperatures, luminosities, and stellar masses. When expressing comparisons of magnitude, Pitjantjatjara, a language indigenous to the land now known as Australia, employs contextually driven comparators (e.g., Anyupa is tall. Uma is short) rather than a dedicated morphological or syntactic comparative construction (e.g., Anyupa is taller than Uma). Pitjantjatjara also has a small number of lexicalized numerals, employing 'one', 'two', 'three', then 'many'. It is hypothesized that having dedicated comparatives in language and elaborated number systems aid comparisons of magnitudes. Fluent Pitjantjatjara-English bilinguals participated in tasks assessing their accuracy and reaction times when comparing two types of magnitude: numerosity (quantities of dots), and extent (line lengths). They repeated the comparisons in both languages on different days, allowing for the effect of language being spoken on responses to be assessed. No differences were found for numerosity; however, participants were less accurate when making comparisons of extent using Pitjantjatjara. Accuracy when using Pitjantjatjara decreased as the magnitude of the comparison increased and as differences between the comparators decreased. ABSTRACT A high circulating total cholesterol (TC) concentration increases the risk for atherosclerosis in the domestic dog. Intake of marine foods is associated with a lowering effect on circulating TC concentration in humans and rodents, but the reported effects of marine ingredients on the TC concentration in domestic dogs has not yet been reviewed. The main aim was to investigate the effects of consuming marine ingredients on the TC concentration in domestic dogs. A systematic literature search was performed using the databases PubMed, Web of Science and Embase, structured around the population (domestic dogs), intervention (source and type of marine ingredients, dose, duration), comparator (control diet) and the primary outcome (circulating TC). Articles were assessed for risk of bias using the SYRCLE's tool. A meta‐analysis was conducted in Review Manager v. 5.4.1 (the Cochrane Collaboration), comprising 12 articles with 243 dogs. Consumption of marine oils resulted in a significantly lower circulating TC concentration relative to comparator groups (mean difference −0.70 mmol/L, 95% CI (−1.21, −0.18), p = 0.008), with high statistical heterogeneity (I2 = 78%). The risk of bias is unclear since few of the entries in the SYRCLE's tool were addressed. We did not identify any studies using marine proteins or marine organisms other that fish. To conclude, intake of marine oils results in a lower TC concentration in dogs, thus reducing an important risk factor for atherosclerosis in canines. This paper presents a background calibration method assisted with noise-shaping, for a 10-b bridged SAR ADC. It proposes calibrating the mismatches from the MSB capacitors using the LSBs. First-order noise-shaping has been employed to facilitate the calibration as well as the analog-to-digital conversion. Since noise-shaping is able to shape both the comparator input and quantization noise, it is expected to improve the calibration effects as well as the SNR, for the SAR ADC. Measurement results show, upon the proposed calibration, the SAR's INL and SNR are improved by 3 LSB and 9 dB, respectively, compared to when the noise shaping is off. Fabricated using a 55 nm CMOS MOMCAP technology and tested with a −2.5 dB sinewave input, the bridged SAR ADC achieves an SNR of 62.2 dB and an INL better than 1 LSB, when consuming a power of 7 2 μ W , at a supply voltage of 1.2 V and sampling frequency of 50 kHz. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the state-of-art high-speed dynamic comparators. The comparator is a critical block of high-speed, low-power analog-to-digital converters, determining the speed and overall power consumption. Therefore, the design of a high-speed comparator with tolerable offset, noise and power consumption is of utmost importance. Recent work reported on high-speed comparator topologies is investigated in detail with the help of simulations in 65 nm CMOS technology. Various parameters, such as delay, energy consumption, speed, offset, kickback noise, power delay product, etc., are compared. Power management chips is damaged to varying degrees when they work at the ambient temperature beyond their acceptable range, and the over-temperature protection circuit plays an important role in improving the reliability and robustness of this kind of chip. This study designs a high-precision over-temperature protection circuit with the dual functions of turning off when the temperature is too high and reminding when the temperature is too low. The positive and negative temperature coefficient voltages are used to detect the chip temperature in real time, and then four logic turnover points are obtained by comparing them with different reference voltages at the output end of the band-gap reference circuit. After processing by the high-precision comparator circuit and hysteresis logic circuit, the hysteresis logic signals are output to control the working state of the chip or to remind the low temperature. The design and relevant simulation have been carried out based on 0.18 μm BCD(Bipolar-Complementary Metal Oxied Semiconductor-Double diffused Metal Oxide Semiconductor) process, and the simulation results show that when the power supply voltage ranges from 3.0~ 5.5 V, the maximum offset of the temperature threshold corresponding to the hysteresis logic turnover signal at the output end of the circuit is within 0.3℃. Potential transformers are vital for measuring and protecting the power grid. Their accuracy and reliability directly impact the stability and security of the power system. To address the issues with traditional high-precision potential transformer calibrators, such as cumbersome operation and low efficiency, a high-precision potential transformer calibrator has been developed. The calibrator is based on an embedded system architecture of FPGA and ARM. It uses a high-precision current comparator along with feedback control technology. By monitoring and adjusting the error feedback voltage, it can perform the automated calibration of potential transformers with an accuracy class of 0.0001. While HC2 and GP5+/6+ PCR‐EIA were pivotal in test validation of new HPV assays, they represent the first generation of comparator tests based upon technologies that are not in widespread use anymore. In the current guideline, criteria for second‐generation comparator tests are presented that include more detailed resolution of HPV genotypes. Second‐generation comparator tests should preferentially target only the 12 genotypes classified as carcinogenic (IARC‐group I), and show consistent non‐inferior sensitivity for CIN2+ and CIN3+ and specificity for ≤CIN1 compared to one of the first‐generations comparators, in at least three validation studies using benchmarks of 0.95 for relative sensitivity and 0.98 for relative specificity. Validation should take into account used storage media and other sample handling procedures. Meta‐analyses were conducted to identify the assays that fulfill these stringent criteria. Four tests fulfilled the new criteria: (1) RealTime High‐Risk HPV Test (Abbott), (2) Cobas‐4800 HPV test (Roche Molecular System), (3) Onclarity HPV Assay (BD Diagnostics), and (4) Anyplex II HPV HR Detection (Seegene), each evaluated in three to six studies. Whereas the four assays target 14 carcinogenic genotypes, the first two identify separately HPV16 and 18, the third assay identifies five types separately and the fourth identifies all the types separately. Emergency medical diseases (EMDs) are the leading cause of death worldwide. A time‐to‐death analysis is needed to accurately identify the risks and describe the pattern of an EMD because the mortality rate can peak early and then decline. Dose‐ranging Phase II clinical trials are essential for developing new therapies for EMDs. However, most dose‐finding trials do not analyze mortality as a time‐to‐event endpoint. We propose three Bayesian dose‐response time‐to‐event models for a secondary mortality analysis of a clinical trial: a two‐group (active treatment vs control) model, a three‐parameter sigmoid EMAX model, and a hierarchical EMAX model. The study also incorporates one specific active treatment as an active comparator in constructing three new models. We evaluated the performance of these six models and a very popular independent model using simulated data motivated by a randomized Phase II clinical trial focused on identifying the most effective hyperbaric oxygen dose to achieve favorable functional outcomes in patients with severe traumatic brain injury. The results show that the three‐group, EMAX, and EMAX model with an active comparator produce the smallest averaged mean squared errors and smallest mean absolute biases. We provide a new approach for time‐to‐event analysis in early‐phase dose‐ranging clinical trials for EMDs. The EMAX model with an active comparator can provide valuable insights into the mortality analysis of new EMDs or other conditions that have changing risks over time. Introduction: This systematic review identified qualitative and mixed-methods empirical studies on psychotherapy from dialogical and narrative approaches, aiming to address the following questions: (1) How are subjectivity and intersubjectivity qualitatively understood in dialogical and/or narrative psychotherapies studied using dialogical and narrative approaches? (2) How do therapeutic changes occur, including their facilitators and barriers? (3) What psychotherapeutic resources are available for psychotherapists in these types of studies? Method: The articles were selected according to the Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and the eligibility criteria proposed by the PICOS strategy (participants, interventions, comparators, outcomes, and study design) from 163 records identified in the Web of Science Core Collection databases. Results: The systematic review process allowed the selection of 16 articles. The results provided insights into the understanding of subjectivity, intersubjectivity, change in psychotherapy, its facilitators, and barriers from these perspectives. It also offered some therapeutic interventions that can be implemented in psychotherapies, integrating dialogical and/or narrative aspects. Discussion: The centrality of dialogical exploration of patient/client resources, therapists as interlocutors fostering client agency, polyphony serving as scaffolding for change, and interconnection with the sociocultural environment are discussed. The integration of this latter topic has been a challenge for these types of studies, considering the active construction of shared meanings. The dialogical and narrative approaches focus psychotherapy on transforming meanings through dialogue and re-authoring stories, evolving within cultural and historical contexts. The European Society of Toxicologic Pathology (ESTP) organized a panel of 24 international experts from many fields of toxicologic clinical pathology (e.g., industry, academia, and regulatory) that came together in 2021 to align the use of terminology to convey the importance of clinical pathology findings in preclinical toxicity studies. An additional goal consisted of how to identify important findings in standard and nonstandard clinical pathology associated endpoints. This manuscript summarizes the information and opinions discussed and shared at the ninth ESTP International Expert Workshop, April 5 to 6, 2022. In addition to terminology usage, the workshop considered topics related to the identification and conveyance of the importance of test item-related findings. These topics included sources of variability, comparators, statistics, reporting, correlations to other study data, nonstandard biomarkers, indirect/secondary findings, and an overall weight-of-evidence approach. The direct power command (DPC) of the doubly-fed induction generators (DFIG) has garnered increasing attention due to its simplicity, ease of implementation, and fast dynamic response that distinguished it from other controls. Recently, nonlinear controllers have been suggested to improve the DPC robustness, in particular the minimization of the DFIG power fluctuations. In the present research work, two different controls are used to regulate the DFIG power, where the first is a traditional DPC and the second is the DPC based on neural super-twisting algorithm (NSTA) controllers. The NSTA controllers were used instead of hysteresis comparators in the DPC technique, and the pulse width modulation (PWM) technique was used as a suitable solution instead of the switching table to better manage the state of switches and simplify the control system. The proposed controls were investigated and implemented using Matlab software and Dspace 1104 card with different tests to determine the best control. Experimental and simulation results show the good efficiency of the NSTA controller in improving energy and current quality. Also, the comparison is made between both techniques and the other controls in terms of reducing current harmonic distortions and ratios of the DFIG power fluctuations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

According to many theorists, discrimination either requires a better treated comparator or can occur only if the discriminator belongs to a socially salient group different from that of the discriminatee. Both claims are philosophically important since they have important implications for which account of the moral wrongness of discrimination is correct, e.g., if no comparator is required, the wrongness of discrimination cannot result from treating different people as unequals since the unequal treatment of persons is not an essential feature of discrimination. Most theorists who have written on the topic see their account as articulating the folk concept of discrimination. However, none have subjected their putative articulations thereof to experimental testing. This is what the present study does. Its results are mixed, interesting, and call for further studies. Regarding comparativity, surprisingly, respondents are more disposed to classify a situation as discriminatory when there is no comparator than when there is one. Regarding reflexivity, respondents are more likely to classify our vignettes as involving discrimination when the discriminator is from another socially salient group than the discriminatee as to ethnicity but not when it comes to gender. Hence, non-reflexivity does not appear to be a conceptual requirement on discrimination. Remarkably, our study also shows that the mere reference to a majority, outgroup person in our vignettes makes respondents more likely to classify the vignette as involving discrimination against a minority person, even when the majority group person does not play the role of a comparator. Purpose: To evaluate the body of evidence of the effects of work-directed interventions on return-to-work for people on sick leave due to common mental disorders (i.e., mild to moderate depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders and reactions to severe stress). Methods: The systematic review was conducted in accordance with an a priori developed and registered protocol (Prospero CRD42021235586). The certainty of evidence was assessed by two independent reviewers using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations. Results: We reviewed 14,794 records published between 2015 and 2021. Of these, eight RCTs published in eleven articles were included in the analysis. Population: Working age adults (18 to 64 years), on sick leave due to mild to moderate depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders or reactions to severe stress. Intervention: Work-directed interventions. Comparator: No comparator, Standard care, or other measures. Outcome: return to work, number of days on sick leave, income. Overall, the effects of work-focused CBT and work-focused team-based support on RTW resulted in increased or faster return-to-work compared with standard care or no intervention (low certainty of evidence). The effects of Individual Placement and Support showed no difference in RTW compared with standard care (very low certainty of evidence). Conclusion: Interventions involving the workplace could increase the probability of RTW. Areas in need of improvement in the included studies, for example methodological issues, are discussed. Background and Objective: It is unclear which comparator is the most appropriate for bias reduction in disproportionality analyses based on spontaneous reports. We conducted a quasi-quantitative bias analysis using two well-studied drug-event combinations to assess how different comparators influence the directionality of bias in pharmacovigilance. Methods: We used the US Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System focusing on two drug-event combinations with a propensity for stimulated reporting: rivaroxaban and hepatotoxicity, and canagliflozin and acute kidney injury. We assessed the directionality of three disproportionality analysis estimates (reporting odds ratio, proportional reporting ratio, information component) using one unrestricted comparator (full data) and two restricted comparators (active comparator, active comparator with class exclusion). Analyses were conducted within two calendar time periods, defined based on external events (approval of direct oral anticoagulants, Food and Drug Administration safety warning on acute kidney injury with sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors) hypothesized to alter reporting rates. Results: There were no false-positive signals for rivaroxaban and hepatotoxicity irrespective of the comparator. Restricting to the initial post-approval period led to false-positive signals, with restricted comparators performing worse. There were false-positive signals for canagliflozin and acute kidney injury, with restricted comparators performing better. Restricting to the period before the Food and Drug Administration warning weakened the false-positive signal for canagliflozin and acute kidney injury across comparators. Conclusions: We could not identify a consistent and predictable pattern to the directionality of disproportionality analysis estimates with specific comparators. This paper presents an artificially intelligent Flash ADC with enhanced resolution from 4 to 10 bits. Unlike conventional approaches, this artificial intelligence (AI)‐based architecture avoids the use of many number of comparators in the Flash ADC when the ADC's resolution changes from 4 to 10 bits. This work initially gets the digital output of a 4‐bit existing Flash ADC as a training data set and then uses these 4‐bit output bits and sends to resolution enhancement logic (REL) block to vary its resolution without increasing the hardware complexities. After simulation, it is observed that the proposed ADC is of SNR of 24.13 dB for 4‐bit Flash ADC designed in SCL 180 nm CMOS technology and increases from 36.89 to 60.70 dB for 6 to 10‐bit resolution, respectively. The sampling frequency of the proposed architecture ranges from 3.6 to 1.04 GHz for a change in resolution from 4 to 10 bits. The FoM of 235 fJ/conv‐step in the training phase is obtained, and it varies from 56 to 20.3 fJ/conv‐step in the next phase of the testing and the prediction. The torque ripple (TR) causes vibration in induction motor's shaft. This TR should be reduced to operate the induction motor drive safely. In this paper the modified torque comparator in direct torque control (DTC) scheme for three-phase induction motor is proposed to reduce the TR. The induction motor is fed with three-level neutral-point clamped (TLNPC) inverter so that the inverter gives more voltage vectors (VVs) as that of two level inverter. Due to the availability of more VVs, the DTC scheme can be implemented with modified five-level torque comparator (MFLTC). The MFLTC modifies the selection of VVs in a comparator both during incrementing and decrementing TR. The selection of VVs through MFLTC restricts the TR near the reference electromagnetic torque. The proposed DTC scheme also balances the dc link neutral point through alternately selection of positive and negative half VVs through MFLTC. Introduction: While randomized controlled trials remain the reference standard for evaluating treatment efficacy, there is an increased interest in the use of external control arms (ECA), namely in oncology, using real-world data (RWD). Challenges related to measurement of real-world oncology endpoints, like progression-free survival (PFS), are one factor limiting the use and acceptance of ECAs as comparators to trial populations. Differences in how and when disease assessments occur in the real-world may introduce measurement error and limit the comparability of real-world PFS (rwPFS) to trial progression-free survival. While measurement error is a known challenge when conducting an externally-controlled trial with real-world data, there is limited literature describing key contributing factors, particularly in the context of multiple myeloma (MM). Methods: We distinguish between biases attributed to how endpoints are derived or ascertained (misclassification bias) and when outcomes are observed or assessed (surveillance bias). We further describe how misclassification of progression events (i.e., false positives, false negatives) and irregular assessment frequencies in multiple myeloma RWD can contribute to these biases, respectively. We conduct a simulation study to illustrate how these biases may behave, both individually and together. Results: We observe in simulation that certain types of measurement error may have more substantial impacts on comparability between mismeasured median PFS (mPFS) and true mPFS than others. For instance, when the observed progression events are misclassified as either false positives or false negatives, mismeasured mPFS may be biased towards earlier (mPFS bias = -6.4 months) or later times (mPFS bias = 13 months), respectively. However, when events are correctly classified but assessment frequencies are irregular, mismeasured mPFS is more similar to the true mPFS (mPFS bias = 0.67 months). Discussion: When misclassified progression events and irregular assessment times occur simultaneously, they may generate bias that is greater than the sum of their parts. Improved understanding of endpoint measurement error and how resulting biases manifest in RWD is important to the robust construction of ECAs in oncology and beyond. Simulations that quantify the impact of measurement error can help when planning for ECA studies and can contextualize results in the presence of endpoint measurement differences. Objective: To provide up‐to‐date clinical guidance on the efficacy of lamotrigine in bipolar disorder (BD). Methods: Eligible studies were identified during a systematic literature search according to PRISMA‐guidelines. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies that quantitatively assessed lamotrigine's efficacy in BD. We divided the included studies into three groups: 1. acute treatment of depression, 2. acute treatment of mania and hypomania, and 3. maintenance treatment. Analyses were stratified by control group (placebo vs active comparator) and treatment strategy (monotherapy vs add‐on treatment). Results: We included 20 RCTs (n = 1166 lamotrigine users) and 20 cohort studies (n = 11,141 lamotrigine users). Twenty‐four of these studies were included in meta‐analyses. During depressive episodes, greater decreases in depressive symptomatology were associated with initiation of lamotrigine as add‐on treatment than with placebo (SMD −0.30 [95% CI = −0.51, −0.10], df = 3, p = 0.004). Decreases in depressive symptomatology did not differ significantly between lamotrigine and the active comparator (SMD −0.28 [95% CI = −1.06, 0.50], df = 3, p = 0.488). As a maintenance treatment, lamotrigine was associated with a significantly lower relapse/recurrence rate than placebo (risk ratio (RR) 0.84 [95% CI = 0.71, 0.99], df = 2, p = 0.037). Relapse/recurrence rates did not differ significantly between lamotrigine and lithium (RR 1.06 [95% CI = 0.89, 1.25], df = 2, p = 0.513). A qualitative assessment of high‐quality register‐based studies found that lamotrigine was associated with lower hospital admission rates than other commonly used treatment regimes. Conclusions: There is substantial evidence for the efficacy of lamotrigine in BD, specifically as add‐on treatment during acute depressive episodes and as maintenance treatment for preventing relapse and recurrence. The Lanzhou Heavy Ion Research Facility (LIRF) is the largest heavy ion research facility in China, providing a substantial volume of experimental data for fundamental research in nuclear physics. The Topmetal-CEE is a pixel readout chip specifically designed for tracking detectors. Within the Topmetal-CEE framework, the front-end amplifier and comparator necessitate precisely adjustable bias voltages. Hence, in this paper, a 14-bit resolution DAC with an R-2R resistor network structure is designed, along with an amplifier featuring high driving capabilities as the DAC driver, thus preventing potential impedance issues when driving large pixel arrays. Test results demonstrate that the DAC module, operating under a 3.3 V supply voltage, can consistently output voltages ranging from 0 to 1.8 V. Furthermore, the differential non-linearity error is less than 1.07 LSB, and the integral non-linearity error is less than 1.57 LSB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The increasing demand for low voltage, power efficient, high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) results in the improvement of speed and power of regenerative dynamic comparator. In this paper, a dual-tail dynamic comparator is used with two extra transistors in the latch stage. These extra transistors help in the increase of transconductance of the latch stage, which helps decrease the delay of the proposed comparator. Mathematical analysis is done for the proposed architecture; this gives the idea of reducing the delay of the comparator with an increase in the transconductance of the comparator. The simulation and layout of the proposed comparator are done on the Cadence software with 90 nm CMOS technology. This proposed design is simulated with a 2 GHz clock frequency at supply voltage of 1 V. The proposed architecture consumes a power of 39.19 μ W and a delay of 143.12 ps at 1 V supply voltage, 5 mV input difference voltage and 0.9 V common mode voltage. The Monte Carlo simulation of the proposed architecture for power, delay, power delay product (PDP) and offset is also demonstrated in this paper. Despite clearly established guidelines, recent audits have found the conduct and reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses (SRMAs) within neurosurgery to be relatively lackluster in methodological rigor and compliance. Protocols of SRMAs allow for planning and documentation of review methods, guard against arbitrary decision-making during the review process, and enable readers to assess for the presence of selective reporting. To aid transparency, authors should provide sufficient detail in their protocol so that the readers could reproduce the study themselves. Development of our guideline drew heavily from the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses Protocols (PRISMA-P) initiative. The objective of this article is not to enumerate every detail of this checklist, but to provide guidance to authors preparing their protocol, with examples, for a systematic review in neurosurgery. Particularly, we emphasize on the PICO framework – population (P), interventions (I), comparators (C), outcomes (O) – which is central to constructing a clinical question, defining the scope of the systematic review, defining and prioritizing the primary outcome, to specifying the eligibility criteria, designing the search strategy, and identifying potential sources of heterogeneity. This paper comprehensively perfects the sensitive node transient detection feedback latch (SNTDFL) technique, subsequently conceptualizes an ideal hardening structure for the pre‐amplification stage, and proposes a radiation hardened by design (RHBD) strategy to cope with the severe single‐event transient (SET) effects of high‐precision voltage comparators in a space radiation environment. Analysis and verification results show that the hardening strategy exhibits excellent SET hardening performance, which can not only detect extremely small transient voltage disturbances at sensitive nodes but also effectively resist transient current pulses of various intensities generated by SETs. Compared with an unhardened high‐precision comparator, the proposed one, hardened with a hybrid strategy of SNTDFL and triple modular redundancy (TMR) techniques, can greatly preserve the original electrical properties and remarkably improve the tolerance of SET with little overhead. In addition, the proposed high‐precision comparator significantly reduces static power consumption compared with the one hardened with the TMR technique alone and has a smaller area overhead. Quantum comparators hold substantial significance in the scientific community as fundamental components in a wide array of algorithms. In this research, we present an innovative approach where we explore the realm of comparator circuits, specifically focussing on three distinct circuit designs present in the literature. These circuits are notable for their use of T-gates, which have gained significant attention in circuit design due to their ability to enable the utilisation of error-correcting codes. However, it is important to note that T-gates come at a considerable computational cost. One of the key contributions of our work is the optimisation of the quantum gates used within these circuits. We articulate the proposed circuits employing Clifford+T gates, facilitating error correction code implementation. Additionally, we minimise T-gate usage, thereby reducing computational costs and fortifying circuit robustness against errors and environmental disturbances-essential for mitigating the effects of internal and external noise. Our methodology employs a bottom-up examination of comparator circuits, initiating with a detailed study of their gates. Subsequently, we systematically dissect the functions of these gates, thereby advancing towards a comprehensive understanding of the circuit's overall functionality. Background: Yeo's index is a novel measure of the severity of rheumatic mitral valve stenosis (MS). It is derived from the product of the mitral leaflet separation index and dimensionless index. This study aims to validate Yeo's index using a transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) three-dimensional (3D) mitral valve area (MVA) as a comparator and to compare the concordance of existing echocardiographic measures of the MVA with TEE 3DMVA. Methods and Results: We studied 111 patients with rheumatic MS who underwent both transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and a TEE assessment of MS severity. Yeo's index, the MVA determined by 2D planimetry, pressure half-time (PHT) and continuity equation (CE) measured on TTE were compared with the TEE 3DMVA. With a linear correlation, Yeo's index showed the best correlation with TEE 3DMVA (r2 = 0.775), followed by 2D planimetry (r2 = 0.687), CE (r2 = 0.598) and PHT (r2 = 0.363). Using TEE 3DMVA as comparator, Yeo's index (ρc = 0.739) demonstrated the best concordance, followed by 2D planimetry (ρc = 0.632), CE (ρc = 0.464) and PHT (ρc = 0.366). When both Yeo's index and 2D planimetry suggested significant MS, the positive predictive value was high (an AUC of 0.966 and a PPV of 100.00% for severe MS, and an AUC of 0.864 and a PPV of 85.71% for very severe MS). When both measures suggested the absence of significant MS, the negative predictive value was also high (an AUC of 0.940 and an NPV of 88.90% for severe MS, and an AUC of 0.831 and an NPV of 88.71% for very severe MS). Conclusions: Yeo's index performed well in identifying severe MS when compared with TEE 3DMVA and may be a useful adjunct to existing methods of measuring MS severity. The classical 1.5 μ m band frequency-stabilized laser using acetylene gas saturated absorption can achieve high frequency stability and reproducibility, but its system design is complex and bulky. For some practical applications, a simple, compact system containing anti-interference abilities is preferred. In this study, a low-cost and simple-structured 1.5 μ m frequency-stabilized laser is constructed using digital control methods, wavelength modulation technology, and acetylene gas absorption. The fiber input and output optical devices of the system significantly simplify the optical path and reduce the volume of the system. The error signal is obtained by the first-order differential method, and a combination of the high-speed comparator circuit and the microcontroller unit (MCU) is used to detect the error signal. Through the feedback control method of coarse temperature adjustment and fine current adjustment, the second-level frequency stability of the laser is stabilized within 100 kHz, that is, the frequency stability reaches 10 ​ − 10 . The designed system achieved continuous and stable operation for more than 6 h, and the long-term frequency stability reached 10 ​ − 9 . [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A Leica RTC360 laser scanner was investigated using a linear horizontal comparator system with four targets of different reflectance. Several thousand panorama scans were conducted along the 30 m long comparator, basically in 40 mm steps. For a selected target, more detailed investigations were carried out with a 2 mm step width for a 2 m wide section. The absolute offset between the scanner and the relative interferometer measurements was determined with a calibrated total station. The investigations revealed several systematic effects like an offset in the distance measurement of about 1.3 mm. Furthermore, sections with stochastic behavior as well as sections with pseudo-cyclic parts were observed, depending on the reflectance of the target. The deterministic sections showed curved and striped patterns with some discontinuities of about 2 mm at 20 m, resulting in a saw-tooth like pattern along the distances. Within all the experiments, the distance deviations were below the manufacturer specifications of the 3D point accuracy. However, it was demonstrated that the distance measurements had clear systematic components. Forensic document examination has been considered one of the most important fields in the forensic science. For this, a quick, effective, and cheap techniques for evaluation of forensic evidence is highly required. This study explores the comparison of A4 document paper by chemical and physical analysis. 16 of white A4 paper from different brands were analyzed by FTIR for investigation of structural characteristics. Video Spectral Comparator 8000 has been used to compare the A4 papers under different light source. The inorganic filler composition in the paper is also explored by ICP‐OES. The calcium carbonate content in document papers play a discriminant role which found to be between 16.02 % and 35.54 %. Also, water contact angle has been utilized in order to examine the surface of paper which is generally related to the inorganic filler and other additives. The WCA results ranged between 83° and 111° that enable quick and easy way to compare A4 document papers. The experimental results have demonstrated that besides FTIR methods, other methods such as ICP‐OES for elemental composition, WCA for wetting test, VSC for visualization under different light of source could have been applied for comparison of document papers in case of criminal cases. Background: In April 2018, the UK government implemented a levy on soft drinks importers and manufacturers, tiered according to the amount of sugar in drinks. The stated aim was to encourage manufacturers to reduce sugar and portion sizes. Previous evidence suggests that the policy has been successful in reducing sugar in drinks in the short-term since implementation, but their sustained effects have not been explored. This study aimed to assess the impact of the soft drink industry levy (SDIL) on sugar levels, price, portion size and use of non-sugar sweeteners in the medium-term. Methods and findings: Product data from 30 November 2017 to 14 March 2020 from one major UK retail supermarket were analysed (112,452 observations, 126 weekly time points). We used interrupted time series analysis, to assess the impact of the soft-drink industry levy (SDIL) on levy-eligible soft drinks, with exempt drinks (i.e. 100% fruit juices, milks, flavoured milks) acting as a comparator series. At the point of implementation of the SDIL (April 2018) there was a step change in the proportion of eligible drinks with sugar content below the SDIL levy threshold (5g per 100ml) (+0.08, 95%CI: +0.04, +0.12), with a similar sized decrease in the proportion in the highest levy category (> = 8g sugar per 100ml) (-0.06, 95%CI: -0.10, -0.03). Between April 2018 and March 2020, the proportion of eligible drinks below the SDIL levy threshold continued to gradually increase (p = 0.003), while those in the highest levy category decreased (p = 0.007). There was a step change in price of eligible drinks in the higher levy category at the point of implementation of +£0.049 (95%CI: +£0.034, +£0.065) per 100mL (for comparison, the levy is set at £0.024 per 100mL for this group). Trends in price for the high levy category were not altered by the SDIL. In the no levy category, there was a step change in price at the implementation (+£0.012 per 100mL, 95%CI: +£0.008, +£0.023), followed by a second step change in October 2018 (-£0.018p per 100mL, 95%CI: -£0.033, -£0.001p). The volume of products in the higher levy group decreased at the time of the implementation (-305mL on average including multipacks, 95%CI: -511, -99). The change in trend for the product volume of drinks in the higher levy group between April 2018 and March 2020 was in the increasing direction (+704mL per year, 95%CI: -95, 1504), but it did not meet our threshold for statistical significance (p = 0.084). There were no changes observed in the volume of lower levy drinks or no levy drinks. There was a step change in the proportion of drinks with non-sugar sweeteners at the implementation of the SDIL (+0.04, 95%CI: +0.02, +0.06). Conclusion: These results suggest that the SDIL was successful in [1] producing reductions in sugar levels that were maintained over the medium term up to March 2020 and [2] a reduction in product volume for higher tier drinks that may be diminishing over time. The aim of this work was to synthesize and study the antituberculosis activity of spirocyclic inhibitors of the MmpL3 protein of M. tu- berculosis containing the 1-oxa-9-azaspiro[5.5]undecane scaffold. Optimization of the initial structure was performed with consideration of the results of molecular docking. The resulting compounds, characterized by the chemical diversity of the peripheral fragment, showed high activity against the antibiotic-sensitive strain H37Rv and some multiresistant strains of M. tuberculosis, exceeding the activity of the comparator drug.
