This paper proposes a resolver offset calibration algorithm that can detect offset with high precision just by configuring a very simple experimental environment. This use of a simple experimental environment holds a great advantage for large-capacity permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) that require substantial resources to configure an experimental environment, such as EV traction motors. The proposed algorithm is designed based on the PMSM voltage equation. The algorithm is first verified for its validity through simulation with Simulink. Subsequently, it is implemented based on the C-language and installed on an inverter for verification experiments. The implemented algorithm is very simple and requires little execution time and memory. The error in the calibrated offset is experimentally found to converge within 3-bits based on 12-bits (the resolution of the commonly used RDC), and the results have very little deviation.

Purpose: The effects of dexmedetomidine on locomotor function and thermal hyperalgesia in sciatic nerve crush injury (SNCI) were investigated using rats.Methods: After exposing the right sciatic nerve, the sciatic nerve was crushed for 1 minute by a surgical clip. One day after nerve injury, dexmedetomidine (5, 25, and 50 µg/kg) was directly applied to the injured sciatic nerve once a day for 14 days. Walking track analysis was used to assess locomotor function and plantar test was conducted to assess thermal pain sensitivity. Immunohistochemistry was performed to determine the expression of c-Fos in the ventrolateral periaqueductal gray (vlPAG) and paraventricular nucleus (PVN). Western blot was used to evaluate the expression level of nerve growth factor (NGF) and myelin basic protein (MBP) in the sciatic nerve.Results: SNCI resulted in deterioration of locomotor function and increased thermal pain sensitivity. The level of c-Fos expression in the PVN and vlPAG was increased and the level of NGF and MBP expression in the sciatic nerve was enhanced by SNCI. Dexmedetomidine treatment improved locomotor function and upregulated expression of NGF and MBP in the sciatic nerve of SNCI. Dexmedetomidine treatment alleviated thermal hyperalgesia and downregulated expression of c-Fos in the vlPAG and PVN after SNCI.Conclusions: Dexmedetomidine may be used as a potential new treatment drug for recovery of locomotion and control of pain in peripheral nerve injury.

New high-k gate dielectrics are highly necessary in facilitating the continuous down-scaling of metal–oxide–semiconductor devices to the sub-10 nm range. This study presents ultrathin organic hydrocarbon (HC) films as a novel high-k gate insulator for metal–insulator–semiconductor (MIS) devices. During inductively-coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition with CH4 and H2 gases, the growth temperature greatly affects the structure of the carbon layers and consequently their dielectric characteristics. Specifically, sp2-rich dielectric HC layers are formed below 600 °C, whereas highly-ordered sp2-hybridized graphene is formed at 950 °C. The k value of the resulting HC films increases up to a maximum value of 90 at 350 °C. Moreover, the MIS devices exhibit excellent gate-insulating properties, including almost no hysteresis in the capacitance–voltage curve, low leakage current, and high dielectric strength, which surpass those of existing high-k gate oxides. These results reveal that the organic HC films are a promising next-generation high-k gate dielectric material for sub-10 nm node Si and organic semiconductor technologies.

Lithium–ion solvation governs the performance of lithium metal anode (LMA) by tuning its interfacial stability. Solvation degree is modulated by adopting fluorinated non-solvating cosolvents (FNSC) to induce anion-rich solvation structure which is beneficial in constructing mechanically stable interface to suppress lithium dendrite. However, FNSC exhibits low cathodic stability owing to their low lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) level, aggravating long-term cycling of LMA. We establish that spectroscopically measured Lewis basicity and polarity are critical parameters for designing optimal non-solvating cosolvents. Non-fluorinated non-solvating cosolvents (NFNSC) proposed by our design rule (i.e. anisole, ethoxybenzene and furan) delivered 99.0 % coulombic efficiency over 1400 cycles. In these molecules, the aromatic ring delocalizes oxygen electron pairs and lowers solvation capability, confirmed by electrochemical cycling, Raman spectroscopy, and DFT binding energy calculation. Finally, the quantification of remaining NFNSC in the electrolytes using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy proves their reductive stability for extended cycles.

In-vehicle communication systems are usually managed by controller area networks (CAN). By broadcasting packets to their bus, the CAN facilitates the interaction between Electronic Control Units (ECU) that coordinate, monitor and control internal vehicle components. With no authentication mechanism for identifying the legitimacy and source of packets, CAN are vulnerable to cyber-attacks. An Intrusion Detection System (IDS) can detect attacks on CAN and machine learning can be used to create the models for the IDSs to detect non-linear attack patterns. However, car manufacturers and owners might want to keep the sensitive information required for training the models confidential. Therefore, we proposed a Blockchain-based Federated Forest Software-Defined Networking (SDN)-enabled IDS (BFF-IDS) to address the problem of data sharing the sensitive CAN data. To ensure scalability, we used InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) to host the models, and the blockchain is designed to store only a hash of the model and a pointer to its location. The SDN provides the dynamic routing of packets and model exchanges. We used Federated Learning (FL) to create a random forest model. Individuals provide partially trained models, allowing them to keep the underlying data confidential. Using Fourier transform, we decomposed the CAN IDs cycle from CAN bus traffic in the frequency domain for better generalization in multiclass detection of attacks. Multiple statistical and entropy features were extracted to handle the high complexity and non-linearity in CAN bus traffic. The proposed system allows manufacturers and car owners to contribute to the training of the models, as their sensitive data is protected. By storing hashes of the models on a blockchain, the risk of adversaries poisoning the models is reduced and a single point of failure is avoided. We evaluated the proposed system by conducting experiments on a testbed. We found that the proposed system has efficient use of memory and CPU resources and that the detection rate of closely related attacks was high. We recorded the highest model attack detection rate of about 0.981.

A controllable approach that combines surface plasmon resonance and two-dimensional (2D) graphene/MoS2 heterojunction has not been implemented despite its potential for efficient photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. In this study, plasmonic Ag-decorated 2D MoS2 nanosheets were vertically grown on graphene substrates in a practical large-scale manner through metalorganic chemical vapor deposition of MoS2 and thermal evaporation of Ag. The plasmonic Ag-decorated MoS2 nanosheets on graphene yielded up to 10 times higher photo-to-dark current ratio than MoS2 nanosheets on indium tin oxide. The significantly enhanced PEC activity could be attributed to the synergetic effects of SPR and favorable graphene/2D MoS2 heterojunction. Plasmonic Ag nanoparticles not only increased visible-light and near-infrared absorption of 2D MoS2, but also induced highly amplified local electric field intensity in 2D MoS2. In addition, the vertically aligned 2D MoS2 on graphene acted as a desirable heterostructure for efficient separation and transportation of photo-generated carriers. This study provides a promising path for exploiting the full potential of 2D MoS2 for practical large-scale and efficient PEC water-splitting applications.

The depth-resolved magnetic configuration of a Ga0.97Mn0.03As/GaAs:Be multilayer with an antiferromagnetic interlayer exchange coupling was investigated using surface-sensitive soft x-ray resonant magnetic reflectivity (XRMR). We observed intriguing opposite increments in the XRMR intensities at the half-Bragg peak position between two different remanent states with opposite field sweep directions. A quantitative analysis shows that these opposite intensity increments result from two different anti-parallel spin configurations in such a way that the magnetization of top-most magnetic layer is pinned along the saturation magnetization direction before the remanent state. This surface pinning effect is important for understanding spin-dependent transport in semiconducting magnetic multilayers.

The intratubular renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is thought to play an essential role in hypertensive renal disease, but information regarding sex-related differences in this system is limited. The present study investigated sex differences in the intratubular RAS in two-kidney, one-clip (2K1C) rats. A 2.5-mm clip was placed on the left renal artery of Sprague-Dawley rats, and rats were euthanized 3 or 5 wk after the operation. Systolic blood pressure increased in 2K1C rats in both sexes but was significantly higher in male rats than in female rats, and an antihypertensive effect was not observed in 2K1C ovariectomized (OVX) female rats. Compared with male 2K1C rats, intratubular angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and ANG II were repressed, and intratubular ACE2, angiotensin (1–7), and Mas receptor were increased in both kidneys in female 2K1C rats 5 wk after surgery. Comparison with male and female rats and intratubular mRNA levels of ACE and ANG II type 1 receptor were augmented in OVX female rats, regardless of the clipping surgery 3 wk postoperation. ANG II type 2 receptor was upregulated in female rats with or without OVX; thus, the ANG II type 1-to-type 2 receptor ratio was higher in male rats than in female rats. In conclusion, female rats were protected from hypertensive renal and cardiac injury after renal artery clipping. An increase in the intratubular nonclassic RAS [ACE2/angiotensin (1–7)/Mas receptor] and a decrease in the ANG II type 1-to-type 2 receptor ratio could limit the adverse effects of the classic RAS during renovascular hypertension in female rats, and estrogen is suggested to play a primary role in the regulation of intratubular RAS components.

The coordinate transformation method of asymmetric dual three phase synchronous motor (ADTP-SM) is a Double dq transform using two dq-axes and a vector space decomposition (VSD) model method using the orthogonality of ADTP-SM. There are several studies comparing the two methods in a healthy state, but few in a single-phase open fault state. In the healthy, when the VSD model is applied, different harmonic orders of the phase current are projected onto the dq and xy-axes (the axis for controlling harmonics of the phase current), and the two-axes are orthogonal, so it can be controlled stably. In the single-phase open fault state, the same current control logic as in the healthy situation is applied. When applying the Double dq transform, the dq-axis of the fault set fluctuates, and it affects the healthy set, so it cannot be controlled stably. When applying the VSD model, if both the dq-axis and the xy-axis are controlled, the two coordinate systems do not have orthogonality and cannot be stably controlled, due to mutual interference. However, if only the dq-axis is controlled, it can be controlled stably because there is no Cartesian coordinate system other than the dq-axis. In the healthy state and single-phase open fault state, the equation is verified through experiments and simulations, and the control stability according to the coordinate transformation is compared.

We report the direct and self-selective synthesis of Ag nanowires (NWs) on graphene patterns through a modified citrate reduction reaction approach. High-density NWs were selectively formed only on the graphene areas, whereas NWs were not synthesized on the SiO2/Si and glass substrates. The size and density of the Ag NWs gradually increased with increasing reaction time and AgNO3 concentration. When the Ag NWs were synthesized with 60 mM AgNO3 at 90 °C for 30 min, the average width and length of the NWs were approximately 150 nm and 3 μm, respectively. Graphene–Ag NW hybrids showed excellent light transmittance (91.5% at 550 nm) with low sheet resistance (102 Ω sq−1). These properties can be further optimized by manipulating the size and density of the Ag NWs. This simple and cost-effective process for the fabrication of graphene–Ag NW hybrid electrode patterns is useful for a variety of applications.

Hydrogen is an excellent energy carrier free of carbon dioxide emission, but safe and efficient storage of hydrogen has been a bottleneck for the commercial use of hydrogen as a fuel. Here, we present a strategy based on simple thermodynamic principles that the density of a gas residing in a potential well increases exponentially relative to the ambient gas by the corresponding Boltzmann factor. This mechanism allows for enormously enhanced H2 storage in the form of delocalized gas permeating throughout the void space of a material, in contrast to conventional storage localized to specific adsorption sites. We create mesoporous graphene oxide that provides a two-dimensional potential well and efficient hydrogen diffusion pathways. The gravimetric storage density measured with quartz-crystal microbalance reaches 4.65 wt% reproducibly at a modest pressure of 40 atm at room temperature. Our work demonstrates the attainability of the long-standing goal of room-temperature hydrogen storage.

This study was conducted to develop a model that explains the factors influencing the clinical nurses' willingness to perform Basic Life Support and to verify the appropriateness of the model. The participants were 550 clinical nurses working at a university hospital in Korea. The data were collected from self-reported questionnaires from October 2012 to February 2013. A total of 520 questionnaires were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 20.0 and Amos version 18.0 software packages. The results indicated that the clinical nurses' knowledge of basic life supporthad a direct impact and their clinical experience had an indirect impact on their willingness to perform basic life support at the scene. This article presents data obtained from the atomic force microscopy (AFM) images of ultrathin high-k hydrocarbon (HC) films. The high-k HC films were synthesized on Si(100) wafers at various growth temperatures by using inductively-coupled plasma chemical vapor deposition with CH4 gas and a gas mixture consisting of 10% H2 and 90% Ar. The AFM images were obtained by tapping mode. The AFM results provide the surface topography, roughness, and thickness of the HC films as a function of growth temperature, which are essential data for high-k gate dielectrics of metal-insulator-semiconductor device applications. This data article is related to the article entitled, “Novel high-k gate dielectric properties of ultrathin hydrocarbon films for next-generation metal-insulator-semiconductor devices” (Kim et al., 2020) [1] .

This paper describes the synthetic effort for a Zn-MOF imparting Ti-H as a preferential binding site potentially capturing H{sub 2} molecules via Kubas-type interaction. This sensor sends data obtained through the Web and market themselves through a suitable exercise program or from users through their Smartphone with purchased recommended programs. Through this research, may be able to have goal-oriented exact figures in the future.

We present a simple, ultrasonic vibration-assisted lift-off-based patterning approach for graphene and graphene–Ag nanowire (NW) hybrid films. A 20 μm width pattern with uniform and smooth pattern edges was neatly defined on various rigid and flexible substrates. The patterned graphene–Ag NW electrodes showed a low sheet resistance of 19 Ω/sq with a high transmittance of 93% at 550 nm, a robust stability against oxidation, and a high reliability under a bending test. The electrodes also exhibited markedly higher performance than that of commercial fluorine-doped tin oxide electrodes for dye-sensitized solar cells. Given its low-cost, high throughput, and nondamaging effect, this simple and reliable patterning approach stimulates the practical applications of graphene-based flexible transparent electrodes in soft electronic and optoelectronic devices.

Nuclear receptor related-1 (Nurr1) protein performs a crucial role in hippocampal neural stem cell (hNSC) development as well as cognitive functions. We previously demonstrated that the pharmacological stimulation of Nurr1 by amodiaquine (AQ) promotes spatial memory by enhancing adult hippocampal neurogenesis. However, the role of Nurr1 in the cell cycle regulation of the adult hippocampus has not been investigated. This study aimed to examine changes in the cell cycle-related molecules involved in adult hippocampal neurogenesis induced by Nurr1 pharmacological stimulation. Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) analysis showed that AQ improved the progression of cell cycle from G0/G1 to S phase in a dose-dependent manner, and MEK1 or PI3K inhibitors attenuated this progression. In addition, AQ treatment increased the expression of cell proliferation markers MCM5 and PCNA, and transcription factor E2F1. Furthermore, pharmacological stimulation of Nurr1 by AQ increased the expression levels of positive cell cycle regulators such as cyclin A and cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK) 2. In contrast, levels of CDK inhibitors p27KIP1 and p57KIP2 were reduced upon treatment with AQ. Similar to the in vitro results, RT-qPCR analysis of AQ-administered mice brains revealed an increase in the levels of markers of cell cycle progression, PCNA, MCM5, and Cdc25a. Finally, AQ administration resulted in decreased p27KIP1 and increased CDK2 levels in the dentate gyrus of the mouse hippocampus, as quantified immunohistochemically. Our results demonstrate that the pharmacological stimulation of Nurr1 in adult hNSCs by AQ promotes the cell cycle by modulating cell cycle-related molecules.

Hydrogen-doping of Bi2Se3 nanoparticles has provided a rare opportunity to study the surface state of a topological insulator by means of electron spin resonance (ESR) and static magnetization measurements. As a result, a weak surface electron-phonon coupling in the topological insulator Bi2Se3 nanoparticles was revealed by ESR signals that were attributed to the surface conduction electrons.

In spintronic devices consisting of ferromagnetic/nonmagnetic systems, the ferromagnet-induced magnetic moment in the adjacent nonmagnetic material significantly influences the spin transport properties. In this study, such magnetic proximity effect in a Pd/Co/Pd trilayer system is investigated by x-ray magnetic circular dichroism and x-ray resonant magnetic reflectivity, which enables magnetic characterizations with element and depth resolution. We observe that the total Pd magnetic moments induced at the top Co/Pd interface are significantly larger than the Pd moments at the bottom Pd/Co interface, whereas transmission electron microscopy and reflectivity analysis indicate the two interfaces are nearly identical structurally. Such asymmetry in magnetic proximity effects could be important for understanding spin transport characteristics in ferromagnetic/nonmagnetic systems and its potential application to spin devices.
