Background: Nurses face significant professional challenges arising from global pandemics, inadequate welfare protection, and declining social status. In this context, the decent working conditions for nurses are not adequately safeguarded. This study examines decent work status among Chinese nurses and its links work engagement, and compassion fatigue. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional research. Through the method of convenience sampling, five reputable hospitals in Hangzhou, China, were selected, and a total of 838 nurses were surveyed. Data collection was conducted from April to May 2023. We employed a comprehensive set of assessment tools, including an evaluation of demographic characteristics, the Decent Work Perception Scale (DWPS), the Chinese version of the Compassion Fatigue Short Scale (C-CFSS), and the Gallup Q12 survey scale. Results: The findings of this study demonstrated that compassion fatigue was significantly negatively correlated with both decent work (r = -0.482, p < 0.001) and engagement (r = -0.461, p < 0.001). Additionally, decent work was significantly positively correlated with engagement (r = 0.811, p < 0.001). Mediation analysis revealed that compassion fatigue had a direct negative effect on decent work (β = -0.05, p < 0.001), while engagement partially mediated the relationship between compassion fatigue and decent work (β = -0.14, p < 0.001). Conclusion: This study found that compassion fatigue and engagement significantly influence nurses' perception of decent work, with engagement mediating this relationship. Future research should explore these mechanisms further and develop interventions to enhance engagement and reduce compassion fatigue, improving nurses' perception of decent work. Aim: This study aimed to assess the potential mediating roles of nurses' job satisfaction and burnout in the association between decent work and turnover intention. Background: There is a global challenge of nursing shortages in healthcare systems worldwide. Decent work is crucial for safeguarding the rights and professional development outcomes of nurses. However, there is currently limited research on decent work among nurses, and there is a lack of studies exploring the relationships between nurses' decent work, job satisfaction, burnout, and turnover intention. Methods: A cross‐sectional survey design was employed with a sample of 460 nurses from three hospitals: The Affiliated Hospital of Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou Third People's Hospital, and Hangzhou Red Cross Hospital. The STROBE checklist was used. Mediation analysis using the PROCESS Macro was used to examine the relationships between decent work, job satisfaction, burnout, and turnover intention. Results: The results showed that nurses' perception of decent work directly influences their turnover intention. Additionally, these findings strongly support the role of job satisfaction and burnout as mediating factors in the relationship between decent work and turnover intention. Conclusions: Decent work reduces nurse burnout and turnover intention of enhancing their job satisfaction. Implications for nursing and health policy: This study's findings have important implications for healthcare organizations and policymakers. Recognizing the pivotal role of decent work in nurses' job satisfaction and well‐being can guide the development of strategies to improve working conditions and reduce turnover rates. It is imperative for healthcare institutions to prioritize creating safe, supportive, and equitable work conditions for nurses, as this can contribute to higher job satisfaction and, subsequently, lower turnover rates. Key factors that influence decent work for nurses include the work environment, societal perceptions, and individual characteristics.The concept of decent work holds paramount importance for nurses, necessitating collaborative efforts at the individual, family, institutional, and societal levels to promote the professional dignity of nurses and enhance the quality of nursing care.Policymakers should establish regional minimum wage standards for nurses, promote flexible scheduling, and support professional development through subsidized training programs. Background: Phenotype alterations of nociceptive neurons have been shown to be a key step in the pathogenesis of many pain‐related diseases. However, it is unclear if the characteristic changes of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) primary afferent neurons are related to the pathogenesis of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJOA) chronic pain. This study aimed to determine the morphological and neurochemical changes in trigeminal ganglion (TG) neurons innervating the TMJ in TMJOA chronic pain rats. Materials and Methods: Monosodium iodoacetate (MIA)‐induced TMJOA chronic pain rat model was established (n = 6), and saline was injected in rats of the control group (n = 6). TMJ primary afferent neurons were labeled with retrograde tracing (Dil). The spatial distribution and the expression of calcitonin gene‐related peptide (CGRP), isolectin B4 (IB4), and neurofilament 200 (NF200) of TMJ primary afferent neurons in TG were investigated using immunofluorescence. Intracellular calcium signaling was recorded by calcium imaging (n = 20). Results: TMJ primary afferent neurons were located only in the V3 region of the TG from both saline‐ and MIA‐injected rats. The number of TG neurons innervating the TMJ was increased in MIA‐injected rats. Elevated number and intracellular calcium concentration of small‐ and medium‐sized instead of large‐sized Dil+ TG neurons were found in MIA‐injected rats. The upregulated expression of CGRP and IB4, but not NF200, in TG neurons innervating the rat TMJs was accompanied by TMJOA chronic pain. Conclusion: This study suggests that sensitization of small‐ to medium‐sized Dil+ TG neurons and CGRP‐ and IB4‐positive Dil+ TG neurons might contribute to the development of TMJOA chronic pain in rats. Haplotype variation not only involves SNPs but also insertions and deletions, in particular gene copy number variations. However, comparisons of individual genomes have been difficult because traditional sequencing methods give too short reads to unambiguously reconstruct chromosomal regions containing repetitive DNA sequences. An example of such a case is the protein gene family in maize that acts as a sink for reduced nitrogen in the seed. Previously, 41-48 gene copies of the alpha zein gene family that spread over six loci spanning between 30- and 500-kb chromosomal regions have been described in two Iowa Stiff Stalk (SS) inbreds. Analyses of those regions were possible because of overlapping BAC clones, generated by an expensive and labor-intensive approach. Here we used single-molecule real-time (Pacific Biosciences) shotgun sequencing to assemble the six chromosomal regions from the Non-Stiff Stalk maize inbred W22 from a single DNA sequence dataset. To validate the reconstructed regions, we developed an optical map (BioNano genome map; BioNano Genomics) of W22 and found agreement between the two datasets. Using the sequences of full-length cDNAs from W22, we found that the error rate of PacBio sequencing seemed to be less than 0.1% after autocorrection and assembly. Expressed genes, some with premature stop codons, are interspersed with nonexpressed genes, giving rise to genotype-specific expression differences. Alignment of these regions with those from the previous analyzed regions of SS lines exhibits in part dramatic differences between these two heterotic groups.

Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most aggressive primary brain malignancy. Novel therapeutic modalities like tumor electric field therapy (TEFT) have shown promise, but underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The extracellular matrix (ECM) is implicated in GBM progression, warranting investigation into TEFT‐ECM interplay. Methods: T98G cells were treated with TEFT (200 kHz, 2.2 V/m) for 72 h. Collagen type VI alpha 1 (COL6A1) was identified as hub gene via comprehensive bioinformatic analysis based on RNA sequencing (RNA‐seq) and public glioma datasets. TEFT intervention models were established using T98G and Ln229 cell lines. Pre‐TEFT and post‐TEFT GBM tissues were collected for further validation. Focal adhesion pathway activity was assessed by western blot. Functional partners of COL6A1 were identified and validated by co‐localization and survival analysis. Results: TEFT altered ECM‐related gene expression in T98G cells, including the hub gene COL6A1. COL6A1 was upregulated in GBM and associated with poor prognosis. Muti‐database GBM single‐cell analysis revealed high‐COL6A1 expression predominantly in malignant cell subpopulations. Differential expression and functional enrichment analyses suggested COL6A1 might be involved in ECM organization and focal adhesion. Western blot (WB), immunofluorescence (IF), and co‐immunoprecipitation (Co‐IP) experiments revealed that TEFT significantly inhibited expression of COL6A1, hindering its interaction with ITGA5, consequently suppressing the FAK/Paxillin/AKT pathway activity. These results suggested that TEFT might exert its antitumor effects by downregulating COL6A1 and thereby inhibiting the activity of the focal adhesion pathway. Conclusion: TEFT could remodel the ECM of GBM cells by downregulating COL6A1 expression and inhibiting focal adhesion pathway. COL6A1 could interact with ITGA5 and activate the focal adhesion pathway, suggesting that it might be a potential therapeutic target mediating the antitumor effects of TEFT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify significant prognostic factors associated with facial paralysis after vestibular schwannoma (VS) surgery and develop a novel nomogram for predicting facial nerve (FN) outcomes. Methods: Retrospective data were retrieved from 355 patients who underwent microsurgery via the retrosigmoid approach for VS between December 2017 and December 2022. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to construct a radiographic features‐based nomogram to predict the risk of facial paralysis after surgery. Results: Following a thorough screening process, a total of 185 participants were included. The univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that tumor size (p = 0.005), fundal fluid cap (FFC) sign (p = 0.014), cerebrospinal fluid cleft (CSFC) sign (p < 0.001), and expansion of affected side of internal auditory canal (IAC) (p = 0.033) were independent factors. A nomogram model was constructed based on these indicators. When applied to the validation cohort, the nomogram demonstrated good discrimination and favorable calibration. Then we generated a web‐based calculator to facilitate clinical application. Conclusion: Tumor size, FFC and CSFC sign, and the expansion of the IAC, serve as good predictors of postoperative FN outcomes.
