Objective/context: This study aims to evaluate the relevance of the category of populism when characterizing a party of the “new right,” such as the Republican Party of Chile. Methodology: A discourse analysis of a corpus of texts representative of the ideology of the Republicans was carried out, considering four analytical dimensions: ideological description schemes, collective identification terms, populist statements, and the populist discursive style as embodied in the rhetorical ethos of the enunciator. Conclusions: Even though the Republican Party has been typified as radical, right-wing, and populist, neither the ideological schemes, the vocabulary, the utterances, nor the discursive style evidence a marked populism. In sum, other ideological frameworks better characterize the discourse of this party—in particular, conservative, authoritarian, neo-liberal, and neo-patriotic motives, framed with the signifier of a certain republicanism. Leopard seals have traditionally been considered Antarctic predators with a Southern Ocean distribution. Historically, sightings north of the Antarctic Polar Front were considered extralimital. However, recent studies suggest a significant presence of leopard seals in subantarctic regions. Here, we assess the spatial occurrence, residency status, and temporal trends of leopard seals in Chile using historical records, stranding reports, standardized monitoring data, photo-identification (photo ID) catalogs, and sightings from four research expeditions. We also characterize glaciers where sightings are concentrated, identifying glaciological and geomorphic attributes that prolong iceberg residency time, which is linked to high leopard seal concentrations. Based on these attributes, we evaluated other potential suitable glacial habitats in Patagonia. We obtained 438 sighting records of leopard seals from 1927 to 2023. Over the last 15 years, we documented a 4-18% annual increase in stranding events reported to national authorities. Most sightings (75%) were concentrated in two hotspots: National Park San Rafael Lagoon, located in Northern Patagonia, and Parry Fjord in Tierra del Fuego. Using photo ID catalogs, we identified 19 resident leopard seals, including 16 multi-year residents observed between 2010-2023 (10 in San Rafael, 6 in Tierra del Fuego) and 3 potential residents (observed multiple months in the same year in Tierra del Fuego). San Rafael monitoring data showed no inter-annual trend, but seasonal trends were observed. We also provide evidence of breeding in Chile, with records of at least 14 pups born and at least two females giving birth in multiple years. Our habitat characterization suggests that calving flux, fjord sinuosity, and fjord width variation are crucial for prolonging iceberg residency in hotspot areas. Based on these attributes, we identified 13 additional fjords in Patagonia as “very likely” suitable for leopard seals. Our study confirms that Patagonia is part of the species’ breeding distribution, shifting the paradigm that leopard seals are merely visitors north of the Antarctic Polar Front. Given the limited number of suitable glaciers in Chile and the potential impacts of climate change, our assessment highlights glacial retreat as a major threat for the ecosystem of this pagophilic marine apex predator in South America.

Abstract Introduction Hemorrhage is a major cause of preventable trauma deaths, and the ABC approach is widely used during the primary survey. We hypothesize that prioritizing circulation over intubation (CAB) can improve outcomes in patients with exsanguinating injuries. Methods A prospective observational study involving international trauma centers was conducted. Patients with systolic blood pressure below 90 who were intubated within 30 min of arrival were included. Prioritizing circulation (CAB) was defined as delaying intubation until blood products were started, and/or bleeding control was performed before securing the airway. Demographics, clinical data, and outcomes were recorded. Results The study included 278 eligible patients, with 61.5% falling within the “CAB” cohort and 38.5% in the “ABC” cohort. Demographic and disease characteristics, including age, sex, ISS, use of blood products, and other relevant factors, exhibited comparable distributions between the two cohorts. The CAB group had a higher proportion of penetrating injuries and more patients receiving intubation in the operating room. Notably, patients in the CAB group demonstrated higher GCS scores, lower SBP values before intubation but higher after intubation, and a significantly lower incidence of cardiac arrest and post-intubation hypotension. Key outcomes revealed significantly lower 24-hour mortality in the CAB group (11.1% vs. 69.2%), a lower rate of renal failure, and a higher rate of ARDS. Multivariable logistic regression models showed a 91% reduction in the odds of mortality within 24 h and an 89% reduction at 30 days for the CAB cohort compared to the ABC cohort. These findings suggest that prioritizing circulation before intubation is associated with improved outcomes in patients with exsanguinating injuries. Conclusion Post-intubation hypotension is observed to be correlated with worse outcomes. The consideration of prioritizing circulation over intubation in patients with exsanguinating injuries, allowing for resuscitation, or bleeding control, appears to be associated with potential improvements in survival. Emphasizing the importance of circulation and resuscitation is crucial, and this approach might offer benefits for various bleeding-related conditions.

Abstract Background Experiential avoidance (EA) is a psychological mechanism associated with several mental health disorders and is regarded as a relevant target by third-generation cognitive behavioral therapies. It has been mainly assessed through self-report questionnaires, and the AAQ-II is the most used tool. Its psychometric evidence has been mostly tested through the classical test theory (CTT) and very scarcely assessed through Item Response Theory (IRT). Methods We used the Graded Response Model to examine its psychometric properties in Spanish-speaking university students (n = 1503; women = 995 (66.2%), mean age = 19.29, SD = 2.45). We tested whether the empirical data fit the model’s predictions and estimated the dispersion of persons and items along the experiential avoidance continuum. Moreover, we examined category probability curves to identify the response probability of each answer. Likewise, an item-person map was made where the measurement of persons and items, both on the same scale and along the experiential avoidance continuum, could be observed jointly. Finally, we tested the gender invariance of the scale. Results We found that the values of the individuals and the items were in the established range to be considered an adequate measure of EA. Additionally, we observed high discrimination indices for all items. The current version with seven answer options could not be optimal and should be tested in future studies. Finally, we found evidence of differential functioning by gender in one of the seven items of the instrument. Conclusions Our results indicate that the AAQ-II is a suitable tool for measuring EA and accurately classifying and differentiating EA levels in university students.

Readers' theatre is a teaching strategy that consists of the interpretative reading of theatrical texts in which readers use their voices to give life to the characters. This strategy promotes the development of various skills related to fluency, among which there is prosody. This research aimed to check the efficacy of a reader's theatre program on the prosody of oral reading. Eleven dyslexic students from the third and fourth grade of the primary school participated in this study, and who were distributed in two groups. To check the program effectiveness, a program evaluation method was used following the CIIP model and a pre-experimental pre-test post-test design. As a dependent variable, prosody and the prosodic characteristics were used and measured through the Prosody Assessment Scale. Findings showed a significant prosody improvement as well as the prosodic features. In addition, the results obtained by the program were similar in both groups of students. These findings suggest the readers' theatre is an effective strategy for improving the prosody of reading in schoolchildren of those ages and confirm that this strategy can be used as a part of an integral program for fluency development.

RESUMEN El objetivo del estudio es conocer lo que las y los docentes entienden por inclusión y las acciones que realizan en su nombre. La multiplicidad de interpretaciones que puede asumir este concepto y la variedad de formas de trabajo en función del público del que se trate, contribuye a que ésta tenga un carácter fuertemente situado. Los participantes fueron 100 docentes y personal profesional de 6 establecimientos educacionales públicos. Se utilizó un diseño cualitativo de investigación; la entrevista grupal y el análisis de contenido de los datos. Los resultados muestran a las interacciones escolares como la unidad donde ocurre la inclusión. Estas se presentan guiadas por lo que aquí llamamos una lógica inclusiva apuntando a propiciar el sentido de pertenencia de las y los estudiantes a la comunidad escolar; y acciones inclusivas propiamente tal, identificadas con prácticas especiales y técnicas dirigidas al trabajo con “la diferencia”. Se concluye a partir de estos datos, la posibilidad de establecer una distinción entre la referida a aquella que sostiene las interacciones que fortalecen los valores y convenciones de la comunidad escolar, de la inclusión que, al contrario, demanda problematizar estas convenciones abriendo los espacios y las relaciones escolares a nuevos posibles.

La justicia social es un tema relevante en la sociedad chilena actual, en particular para las experiencias de aulas comunitarias que son el núcleo de esta investigación. Las aulas dialógicas tienen como propósito revertir las injusticias en el sistema educativo formal chileno. El presente estudio, realizado durante cuatro años en ocho aulas comunitarias distribuidas a lo largo del país, busca, mediante la investigación participativa, conocer si hay avances en justicia social de reconocimiento recíproco y paridad participativa. Los hallazgos revelan notorios progresos en las relaciones sociales entre personas de la comunidad y de la escuela, y en cambios estructurales que impactan el currículo.

En los tumores sólidos la hipereosinofilia es un fenómeno raro y se asocia principalmente con carcinomas secretores de mucina. Los tumores tiroideos asociados a neutrofilia y/o eosinofilia se han descrito exclusivamente en pacientes con cáncer anaplásico de tiroides. La eosinofilia asociada con cáncer papilar de tiroides es extremadamente rara y se encuentran muy pocos casos descriptos actualmente. Se ha sugerido que tres citocinas, a saber, la interleucina-3 (IL-3), la interleucina-5 (IL-5) y el factor estimulante de colonias de granulocitos y macrófagos (GM-CSF), pueden actuar como un péptido eosinofílico potencial. Hasta el momento solo se han reportado tres pacientes con cáncer diferenciado de tiroides asociados a eosinofilia, dos de tipo papilar y uno de tipo medular. Paciente de 48 años consultó en el año 2022 por adenopatías cervicales bilaterales de 3 años de evolución asociado a síndrome consuntivo e hipereosinofilia. Se solicitó PET CT que evidenció foco hipermetabólico en lóbulo tiroideo derecho y metástasis ganglionares, pulmonares, óseas y hepáticas; ecografía tiroidea que evidencia en lóbulo derecho nódulo de alta sospecha de malignidad y conglomerado de adenopatías con lavado de aguja positivo para tiroglobulina. Evaluada la hipereosinofilia con valores iniciales de leucocitosis de GB 30310/mm3 (10608/mm3 de eosinófilos) hasta valores máximos de GB 77090/mm3 (eosinófilos 20814/mm3) se interpretó como síndrome paraneoplásico y se inició corticoterapia en dosis inmunosupresoras sin respuesta. Nuestras observaciones presentadas en este artículo están en línea con la mayoría de los estudios que reflejan que la hipereosinofilia paraneoplásica se caracteriza por una enfermedad más avanzada y un mal pronóstico.

Objective: The liver releases glucose into the blood using the glucose-6-phosphatase (G6Pase) system, a multiprotein complex located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Here, we show for the first time that the G6Pase system is also expressed in hypothalamic tanycytes, and it is required to regulate energy balance. Methods: Using automatized qRT-PCR and immunohistochemical analyses, we evaluated the expression of the G6Pase system. Fluorescent glucose analogue (2-NBDG) uptake was evaluated by 4D live-cell microscopy. Glucose release was tested using a glucose detection kit and high-content live-cell analysis instrument, Incucyte s3. In vivo G6pt knockdown in tanycytes was performed by AAV1-shG6PT-mCherry intracerebroventricular injection. Body weight gain, adipose tissue weight, food intake, glucose metabolism, c-Fos, and neuropeptide expression were evaluated at 4 weeks post-transduction. Results: Tanycytes sequester glucose-6-phosphate (G6P) into the ER through the G6Pase system and release glucose in hypoglycaemia via facilitative glucose transporters (GLUTs). Strikingly, in vivo tanycytic G6pt knockdown has a powerful peripheral anabolic effect observed through decreased body weight, white adipose tissue (WAT) tissue mass, and strong downregulation of lipogenesis genes. Selective deletion of G6pt in tanycytes also decreases food intake, c-Fos expression in the arcuate nucleus (ARC), and Npy mRNA expression in fasted mice. Conclusions: The tanycyte-associated G6Pase system is a central mechanism involved in controlling metabolism and energy balance.

Property graphs are popular in both industry and academia due to their versatility in modeling complex data across diverse application domains, ranging from social networks to knowledge graphs. Despite their popularity, there is no standardized data format for storing and exchanging property graphs. This paper introduces PGDF, a text-based data format for property graphs, designed to be both simple and flexible, while remaining expressive and efficient. The simplicity of PGDF comes from its tabular-like structure, where each line in a PGDF file contains a single schema or data declaration. PGDF offers great flexibility by allowing schema and data declarations to be combined in any order. This means that nodes and edges can each have their own distinct properties, providing greater adaptability and customization. The expressiveness of PGDF is defined by its ability to represent a wide range of property graph features. In this article, we describe the syntax and semantics of PGDF, outline methods for converting property graphs stored in multiple CSV files to PGDF and other graph data formats, and present an experimental evaluation comparing PGDF, YARS-PG, GraphML, and JSON-Neo4j. The experiments show that PGDF enables the production of smaller files more quickly compared to other graph data formats.

Objective(s): To address the problem of using large volumes of long-lived radionuclides in test phantoms to check calibration accuracy of PET and SPECT systems we have developed a test object which (a) contains less radioactivity, (b) has a low total volume, and (c) is easier to store than currently used phantoms, while still making use of readily-available “standardised” test objects.Methods: We have designed a hollow acrylic cylindrical insert compatible with the NEMA/IEC PET Body Image Quality (IQ) phantom used in NU 2 performance testing of PET systems. The insert measures 90 mm internal diameter and 70 mm internal height and so is sufficiently large to not be subject to partial volume effects in PET or SPECT imaging. The volume of the insert is approximately 500 mL. It has been designed as a replacement for the standard long cylindrical “lung insert” in the IQ phantom without needing to remove the fillable hollow spheres of the phantom. The insert been tested with 18F, 68Ga and 124I PET/CT and 99mTc, 131I and 177Lu SPECT/CT on scanners that had previously been calibrated for these radionuclides.Results: The scanners were found to produce accurate image reconstructions in the insert with ±5% of the true value without any confounding uncertainty from partial volume effects when compared to NEMA NU 2-2018 Phantom measurement.Conclusions: The “ARTnet Insert” is simple to use, inexpensive, compatible with current phantoms and is suitable for both PET and SPECT systems. It does not suffer from significant partial volume losses permitting its use even with the poor spatial resolution of high-energy imaging with 131I SPECT. Furthermore, it uses less radioactivity in a smaller volume than would be required to fill the entire phantom as is usually done. Long-term storage is practical while allowing radioactive decay of the insert contents.

Abstract Surgeons in their daily practice are at the forefront in preventing and managing infections. However, among surgeons, appropriate measures of infection prevention and management are often disregarded. The lack of awareness of infection and prevention measures has marginalized surgeons from this battle. Together, the Global Alliance for Infections in Surgery (GAIS), the World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES), the Surgical Infection Society (SIS), the Surgical Infection Society-Europe (SIS-E), the World Surgical Infection Society (WSIS), the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), and the Panamerican Trauma Society (PTS) have jointly completed an international declaration, highlighting the threat posed by antimicrobial resistance globally and the need for preventing and managing infections appropriately across the surgical pathway. The authors representing these surgical societies call all surgeons around the world to participate in this global cause by pledging support for this declaration for maintaining the effectiveness of current and future antibiotics.

Abstract Expiratory central airway collapse (ECAC) comprising excessive central airway collapse (EDAC) and tracheobronchomalacia. Treatment is challenging for severe cases that are not candidates for surgical management. We report a case of severe ECAC successfully managed with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. A 75‐year‐old female patient status post right pneumonectomy, presented with chronic cough. Dynamic bronchoscopy evaluation showed severe EDAC which improved with intraprocedural noninvasive positive pressure (NIPPV) therapy. Due to patients' comorbidities, she was not a candidate to surgical tracheobronchoplasty. Therefore, we attempted pneumatic stenting with long‐term CPAP therapy resulting in improvement of symptoms and functional capacity. The long‐term efficacy of pneumatic stenting has not been clearly established yet. Literature review of management of ECAC with NIPPV consist primarily of case reports and there is only one clinical trial being conducted to assess the efficacy of CPAP therapy in ECAC. While NIPPV arises as a sufficient alternative for management of severe ECAC, larger scale studies are needed to prove the real efficacy of NIPPV in this setting.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) linked to the 2030 Agenda have been widely accepted by public and private companies, with many choosing to incorporate them within the framework of their social responsibility initiatives. This research article aims to find out how the SDGs are reflected in corporate sustainability reports and in which business activities they stand out the most. To this end, using a sequential explanatory methodology, the authors analyzed 12 sustainability reports issued in 2021 by large companies in Colombia, Chile, and Ecuador to verify their alignment with the SDGs. The reports showed evidence of a diverse range of programs associated with at least three SDGs, thus highlighting the importance of fulfilling not only the needs based on each company’s field of expertise but also those of its audiences and the community in general. The most prevalent SDGs were “decent work and economic growth” (SDG 8) and “gender equality” (SDG 5), followed by “responsible consumption and production” (SDG 12). This paper contributes to a growing interest among academia in the research on sustainability communication evidenced in annual reports.

Abstract Since the discovery of ferroptosis, it has been postulated that this type of cell death could be utilized in treatments for cancer. Unfortunately, several highly aggressive tumor models are resistant to the pharmacological induction of ferroptosis. However, with the use of combined therapies, it is possible to recover sensitivity to ferroptosis in certain cellular models. Here, we discovered that co-treatment with the metabolically stable ferroptosis inducer imidazole ketone erastin (IKE) and the oxidized form of vitamin C, dehydroascorbic acid (DHAA), is a powerful therapy that induces ferroptosis in tumor cells previously resistant to IKE-induced ferroptosis. We determined that DHAA and IKE + DHAA delocalize and deplete GPX4 in tumor cells, specifically inducing lipid droplet peroxidation, which leads to ferroptosis. Moreover, in vivo, IKE + DHAA has high efficacy with regard to the eradication of highly aggressive tumors such as glioblastomas. Thus, the use of IKE + DHAA could be an effective and safe therapy for the eradication of difficult-to-treat cancers.

Malolactic fermentation (MLF) is a biological process of deacidification of wines that may also help to increase the microbiological stability of the product and to enhance its sensorial attributes, in particular its aromatic profile. MLF can occur spontaneously due to the presence of indigenous bacteria in the environment of fermented beverages such as wines and ciders. However, the inoculation of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) starter cultures could prevent potential losses and standardize the process. The industrial-scale production of these starter cultures requires cost-effective, sustainable, and feasible approaches. A possible approach to acquire bacterial biomass, while addressing waste disposal concerns, is the use of by-products from the apple juice industry, such as apple pomace. Moreover, to ensure the long-term viability and activity of starter cultures, appropriate preservation methodologies need to be developed. Thus, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the growth of two Lactiplantibacillus plantarum strains, UNQLp11 and UNQLp155, in supplemented apple pomace and to optimize the preservation conditions. Cultures were either frozen or freeze dried (trehalose (20% m/v) as a protective agent, potassium phosphate buffer (pH 7), and a combination of trehalose and buffer), and then cell viability and malolactic activity were analyzed under wine stress conditions. Notably, the combination of phosphate buffer at pH 7.0 and trehalose emerged as the most effective preservation strategy for freeze drying, exhibiting enhanced viability and malic acid consumption for the two strains evaluated. These findings underscore the inexpensive and sustainable viability of using a semi-solid medium formulated with apple pomace for LAB biomass production and subsequent preservation.

El propósito de la presente investigación corresponde a describir la percepción del estudiantado de la carrera de Pedagogía en Educación General Básica, referente a la adquisición de las habilidades investigativas en el proceso de formación inicial docente. Para dicho fin se utilizó el enfoque cualitativo con el tipo de estudio de caso descriptivo. Se consideró como muestra no probabilista de n=9, a quienes se le aplicó una entrevista compuesta por 15 preguntas semiestructurada. Como principal resultado se obtuvo que el estudiantado logra reconocen la realización de acciones que contribuyen a las habilidades investigativas, pero no logran visualizarlas de manera explícita en las asignaturas que no son del área de la metodología de la investigación.

In this work, we study the soiling impact on the performance of two PV technologies installed in the south of Spain. For this purpose, we include electrical measurements as well as spectral aspects such as dust transmittance, quantum efficiency and the local solar spectrum to analyse their response. The studied technologies were multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si) and cadmium telluride (CdTe) PV modules. The solar spectra representative for clear sky, clean glass cover and soiled glass as well as the spectral response of the PV modules were used for the calculation of the photogenerated current density and spectral mismatch factor. Two cloudless days were chosen for analysis. In terms of the solar resource, these days did not exhibit large differences. Nevertheless, soiling was present to a different extent. When comparing the corresponding power output of the technologies on day 1 and day 2, the power losses at 12 UTC were 3 times larger for mc-Si and nearly the same for CdTe. This result shows that the soiling impacts differently on PV modules having different spectral responses.

Violence within the family is a global problem that addresses with special concern that relapse against women. International guidelines point to professionalized care for women in different areas of public life, including access to justice, promoting the generation of specials data. The objective of the study is to characterize the judicial cases on domestic violence against women and referred to the Legal Clinic of the Finis Terrae University from the Center for Precautionary Measures of the Family Courts of Santiago de Chile, between the years 2017-2021, providing a better knowledge and understanding of the development of this phenomenon, from the judicial process. The methodology used has been quantitative and includes a universe of 553 causes. The results project to the need for fluid interaction between Family Courts and Regional Governments, as well as the importance of complying with legal procedures. Judicial practices require judges and officials of the Family Courts who are educated and attentive to considering timely attention in the various phases of the trial, as part of the guarantee of access to justice.

Vacuoles, E1 enzyme, X-linked, autoinflammatory, somatic syndrome is a newly recognized, acquired autoinflammatory disorder with broad systemic implications and a poor global prognosis. Because cutaneous lesions are present in the majority of those affected, it is necessary that dermatologists are equipped to recognize this important disease. Through identification, there is a greater opportunity for disease stratification, surveillance for systemic involvement, and selection of the best available therapies. As our understanding of this disease develops, dermatologists should also play a role in addressing the knowledge gaps that exist.

A consistent association has been observed between internet addiction and symptoms of social anxiety. However, there is a lack of empirical research that delves into potential explanations for this relationship and its directionality, making it difficult to translate findings into development of interventions for social anxiety that account for technology-related behaviors. The present study aimed to evaluate the longitudinal dynamics between internet addiction, symptoms of social anxiety, avoidance of social interactions, and using the internet to cope with loneliness. By means of an ecological momentary assessment study, we evaluated a sample of 122 young adults from Chile using intensive self-report measurements five times a day, for a period of 10 days. Using mixed-effects models, we examined the directionality between internet addiction and symptoms of social anxiety, together with an explanation of their relationship. Results indicate that internet addiction antecedes symptoms of social anxiety; however, the reverse relationship was not observed. Furthermore, instances where individuals avoided social interactions or used the internet to cope with loneliness were predictive of later increases in levels of internet addiction, suggesting a vicious cycle. Significant heterogeneity was observed in these effects, highlighting the need for a more personalized approach when including technology-related behaviors in social anxiety interventions. Theoretical and clinical implications are discussed.

The context of global economic instability and armed conflicts has caused fossil fuels to reach unprecedented levels. In this sense, Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) technology has proven to be an excellent option to diversify the energy matrix dependent on fossil fuels, especially in places where there is a good quality solar resource, such as desert areas. These good qualities can be overshadowed by local phenomena such as soiling that can affect the viability of a project. In this paper, the effect of soiling on CSP mirrors installed in a cold desert climate in the Atacama Desert, Chile, is presented. During the 202 days (continuous) of outdoor exposure, atmospheric parameters such as humidity and temperature, as well as reflectance were evaluated daily. At the end of the experiment, the chemical composition of the material deposited on the mirror surface was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and elemental analysis (EDX). The characterization of the material detected the presence of Gypsum (soluble salt), which was shown to have the ability to cement the deposited material. The atmospheric parameters showed that the relative humidity at the site can exceed 60%, sufficient values to solubilize the Gypsum, producing the cementation process. The reflectance values showed that the effect of the cemented material, for 202 days of exposure, can reach a 47% loss of its reflective capacity. This means that the longer the exposure time, the greater the effect of the cementation and the more energy will be needed to clean the mirrors.

Considerando que una parte importante de la población mundial vive con algún tipo de discapacidad y que la esperanza de vida aumenta, el hecho de tener un transporte accesible permitiría que las personas mejoraran su calidad de vida, accediendo a más oportunidades socioeconómicas. A partir de un diseño descriptivo mixto (cualitativo etnográfico y cuantitativo), este artículo presenta una herramienta de evaluación del nivel de accesibilidad en el uso del tren subterráneo para personas con discapacidad visual, física, cognitiva y auditiva. Se analizaron los datos de 30 estaciones del Metro de Santiago de Chile, estudiando el desplazamiento desde el exterior a la estación, la permanencia en zona de pagos y el desplazamiento hacia andenes y combinaciones. De los indicadores evaluados, los que tienen relación con el desplazamiento hacia el andén son los que presentan menores niveles de accesibilidad, ya que no responden a todas las necesidades para los distintos tipos de discapacidad analizados.

Abstract Introduction An ideal filling material should hermetically seal the communication pathways between the canal system and surrounding tissues. Therefore, during the last few years, the development of obturation materials and techniques to create optimal conditions for the proper healing of apical tissues has been a focus of interest. The effects of calcium silicate‐based cements (CSCs) on periodontal ligament cells have been investigated, and promising results have been obtained. To date, there are no reports in the literature that have evaluated the biocompatibility of CSCs using a real‐time live cell system. The southeastern Atlantic is home to an expansive smoke aerosol plume overlying a large cloud deck for approximately a third of the year. The aerosol plume is mainly attributed to the extensive biomass burning activities that occur in southern Africa. Current Earth system models (ESMs) reveal significant differences in their estimates of regional aerosol radiative effects over this region. Such large differences partially stem from uncertainties in the vertical distribution of aerosols in the troposphere. These uncertainties translate into different aerosol optical depths (AODs) in the planetary boundary layer (PBL) and the free troposphere (FT). This study examines differences of AOD fraction in the FT and AOD differences among ESMs (WRF-CAM5, WRF-FINN, GEOS-Chem, EAM-E3SM, ALADIN, GEOS-FP, and MERRA-2) and aircraft-based measurements from the NASA ObseRvations of Aerosols above CLouds and their intEractionS (ORACLES) field campaign. Models frequently define the PBL as the well-mixed surface-based layer, but this definition misses the upper parts of decoupled PBLs, in which most low-level clouds occur. To account for the presence of decoupled boundary layers in the models, the height of maximum vertical gradient of specific humidity profiles from each model is used to define PBL heights. Results indicate that the monthly mean contribution of AOD in the FT to the total-column AOD ranges from 44 % to 74 % in September 2016 and from 54 % to 71 % in August 2017 within the region bounded by 25∘ S–0∘ N–S and 15∘ W–15∘ E (excluding land) among the ESMs. ALADIN and GEOS-Chem show similar aerosol plume patterns to a derived above-cloud aerosol product from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) during September 2016, but none of the models show a similar above-cloud plume pattern to MODIS in August 2017. Using the second-generation High Spectral Resolution Lidar (HSRL-2) to derive an aircraft-based constraint on the AOD and the fractional AOD, we found that WRF-CAM5 produces 40 % less AOD than those from the HSRL-2 measurements, but it performs well at separating AOD fraction between the FT and the PBL. AOD fractions in the FT for GEOS-Chem and EAM-E3SM are, respectively, 10 % and 15 % lower than the AOD fractions from the HSRL-2. Their similar mean AODs reflect a cancellation of high and low AOD biases. Compared with aircraft-based observations, GEOS-FP, MERRA-2, and ALADIN produce 24 %–36 % less AOD and tend to misplace more aerosols in the PBL. The models generally underestimate AODs for measured AODs that are above 0.8, indicating their limitations at reproducing high AODs. The differences in the absolute AOD, FT AOD, and the vertical apportioning of AOD in different models highlight the need to continue improving the accuracy of modeled AOD distributions. These differences affect the sign and magnitude of the net aerosol radiative forcing, especially when aerosols are in contact with clouds.
