RESUMO: O texto discute a relação entre a Lei n.º 13.415/2017, a Base Nacional Comum Curricular - BNCC - e as Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais para o Ensino Médio - DCNEM. Com aporte em discussão bibliográfica e documental, analisa a reforma do ensino médio, destaca as audiências públicas, evidencia os elementos controversos na proposta para formação e expõe a vinculação dessa proposição com os organismos internacionais no direcionamento neoliberal. Como resultados, aponta que a reforma traz traços reacionários e de acentuação da desigualdade educacional que impactam a formação da juventude e o trabalho desenvolvido pela escola. É um assunto importante a ser analisado por todos os professores que visam ao desenvolvimento da educação média para a formação emancipadora da juventude brasileira, num trabalho que leve em conta a compreensão do sujeito jovem enquanto ser social.

Dementia arises from various brain-affecting diseases and injuries, with Alzheimer's disease being the most prevalent, impacting around 55 million people globally. Current clinical diagnosis often relies on biomarkers indicative of Alzheimer's distinctive features. Electroencephalography (EEG) serves as a cost-effective, user-friendly, and safe biomarker for early Alzheimer's detection. This study utilizes EEG signals processed with Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) to generate spectrograms, facilitating visualization of EEG signal properties. Leveraging the Brainlat database, we propose SpectroCVT-Net, a novel convolutional vision transformer architecture incorporating channel attention mechanisms. SpectroCVT-Net integrates convolutional and attention mechanisms to capture local and global dependencies within spectrograms. Comprising feature extraction and classification stages, the model enhances Alzheimer's disease classification accuracy compared to transfer learning methods, achieving 92.59 ± 2.3% accuracy across Alzheimer's, healthy controls, and behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD). This article introduces a new architecture and evaluates its efficacy with unconventional data for Alzheimer's diagnosis, contributing: SpectroCVT-Net, tailored for EEG spectrogram classification without reliance on transfer learning; a convolutional vision transformer (CVT) module in the classification stage, integrating local feature extraction with attention heads for global context analysis; Grad-CAM analysis for network decision insight, identifying critical layers, frequencies, and electrodes influencing classification; and enhanced interpretability through spectrograms, illuminating key brain wave contributions to Alzheimer's, frontotemporal dementia, and healthy control classifications, potentially aiding clinical diagnosis and management., Competing Interests: Declaration of competing interest The authors declare that they have no known competing financial interests or personal relationships that could have appeared to influence the work reported in this paper., (Copyright © 2024 Elsevier Ltd. Water repellency has significant potential in applications like self-cleaning coatings, anti-staining textiles, and electronics. This study introduces a novel nanocomposite system incorporating functionalized Al 2 O 3 and CeO 2 nanoparticles within a polyurethane matrix to achieve hydrophobic and UV-blocking properties. The nanoparticles were functionalized using an octadecyl phosphonic acid solution and characterized by FTIR and XPS, confirming non-covalent functionalization. Spin-coated polyurethane coatings with functionalized and non-functionalized Al 2 O 3 , CeO 2, and binary Al 2 O 3 -CeO 2 nanoparticles were analyzed. The three-layered Al 2 O 3 -CeO 2 -ODPA binary system achieved a contact angle of 166.4° and 85% transmittance in the visible range. Incorporating this binary functionalized system into a 0.4% w / v polyurethane solution resulted in a nanocomposite with 75% visible transmittance, 60% at 365 nm UV, and a 147.7° contact angle after three layers. These findings suggest that ODPA-functionalized nanoparticles, when combined with a polymer matrix, offer a promising approach to developing advanced hydrophobic and UV-protective coatings with potential applications across various industrial sectors.

The flowers of Yucca aloifolia ("flor de izote") are considered a millenary food in the Northeastern Highlands of Puebla, Mexico. The present investigation reports on the chemical and biological activities of the hydroalcoholic extract (YAHF) obtained from this edible source. HPLC-MS profiling revealed twenty bioactive phenolic compounds with chlorogenic acid (16.5 mg g -1 DW), quercetin (9.5 mg g -1 FW), and their glycosides (rutin and quercitrin), as well as caffeic acid (8.4 mg g -1 DW) and ferulic acid (7.9 mg g -1 DW) as major compounds dissolved in YAHF. Six metabolites had potent anti-lipase (IC 50 <100 μg mL -1 ) and anti-ornithine decarboxylase activity (IC 50 <100 μg mL -1 ), whereas thirteen exerted strong anti-alpha-glucosidase properties (IC 50 <100 μg mL -1 ). The evaluation of YAHF in mice subjected to standard oral glucose tolerance tests and prolonged administration of hypercaloric/atherogenic diet (30 days), unraveled their ability to improve glucose and lipid profiles. YAHF and six phenolic compounds significantly reduced DLD-1 cell viability (IC 50 , 117.9 μg mL -1 ) and avoided polyamine accumulation linked to anti-ornithine decarboxylase activity. YAHF and its twenty constituents exerted low toxicity in probiotics (>1000 μg mL -1 ) and 3T3 fibroblasts (>2.5 mg - mL -1 ), sustaining their safeness for human consumption., (© 2024 Wiley-VHCA AG, Zurich, Switzerland.)

Cardiac amyloidosis is a cardiomyopathy resulting from the extracellular deposition of proteins such as transthyretin (TTR). We present the case of a 72-year-old male with hereditary cardiac amyloidosis. After confirming the diagnosis, tafamidis, a TTR stabilizer, was administered. Remarkably, tafamidis, when coupled with peritoneal dialysis for chronic kidney disease, maintained stability in both cardiac and renal functions. Previous studies have demonstrated the efficacy of tafamidis in reducing all-cause mortality and cardiovascular hospitalizations, although its use in severe renal failure lacks specific evaluation. Herein we describe the in situ inhibitory activity of three hybrid films (FL1, FL2, and FL3) against two wild strains of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides and Penicillium digitatum as causal agents of rot in Persian limes. The films FL2 and FL3 contained 1.0 and 1.3 % weight/volume Litsea glaucescens essential oil (LgEO) and significantly (p<0.05) delayed rot emergence in Persian limes caused by both pathogens up to 10 days. The physicochemical properties of LgEO and hybrid films were obtained, whereas detailed HPLC profiling revealed that fruit covered with these films significantly (p<0.01) preserved reducing sugars (sucrose, fructose, and glucose), organic acids (citric acid, ascorbic acid, malic acid, and oxalic acid), and flavonoids with nutraceutical activity (hesperidin, eriocitrin, naruritin, neohesperidin, diosmin, vitexin, rutin, and quercetin). In this work, the SET and RESET processes of bipolar resistive switching memories with silicon nanocrystals (Si-NCs) embedded in an oxide matrix is simulated by a stochastic model. This model is based on the estimation of two-dimensional oxygen vacancy configurations and their relationship with the resistive state. The simulation data are compared with the experimental current-voltage data of Si-NCs/SiO2 multilayer-based memristor devices. Devices with 1 and 3 Si-NCs/SiO2 bilayers were analyzed. The Si-NCs are assumed as agglomerates of fixed oxygen vacancies, which promote the formation of conductive filaments (CFs) through the multilayer according to the simulations. In fact, an intermediate resistive state was observed in the forming process (experimental and simulated) of the 3-BL device, which is explained by the preferential generation of oxygen vacancies in the sites that form the complete CFs, through Si-NCs.

In this work, we report the digital and analog resistive-switching (RS) characteristics in a memristor based on silicon nanocrystals (Si-NCs) integrated into a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) structure. Si-NCs with a diameter of 5.48 ± 1.24 nm embedded in a SiO 2 /Si-NCs/SiO 2 multilayer structure acts as an RS layer. These devices exhibit bipolar RS with an intermediate resistance step during SET and RESET processes, which is believed to lie in the Si-NCs layer acting as charge-trapping nodes. The endurance studies of about 70 DC cycles indicate an ON/OFF ratio of ~10 6 and a retention time larger than 10 4 s. Long-term potentiation (LTP, -2 V) and long-term depression (LTD, +4 V) are obtained by applying consecutive identical pulse voltages of 150 ms duration. The current value gradually increases/decreases (LTP/LTD) as the pulse number increases. Three consecutive identical pulses of -2 V/150 ms (LTP) separated by 5 and 15 min show that the last current value obtained at the end of each pulse train is kept, confirming an analog RS behavior. These characteristics provide a possible way to mimic biological synapse functions for applications in neuromorphic computing in Si-NCs-based CMOS structures.

Agro-industrial residues represent more than 60% of organic wastes worldwide, which could be used to generate other by-products or to be incorporated into other production chains. For example, bagasse is a waste from the tequila industry in Mexico that could be implemented for mushroom cultivation. Additionally, the substrate influences the growth, development, and production of secondary metabolites of fungi. This work presents a comparative experiment that studies the metabolite production in Pleurotus djamor mushrooms on agave bagasse and barley straw (traditional substrate). The biological efficiency (BE), yield, phenolics and flavonoids, antioxidant capacity, tannins, and the identification of low molecular weight metabolites were evaluated. Five treatments were proposed according to the following mixtures of agave bagasse: barley straw: T1 (1:0), T2 (3:1), T3 (1:1), T4 (1:3), and T5 (0:1). T2 had the highest yield (13.39 ± 3.23%), BE (56.7 ± 13.71%), and flavonoids (44.25 mg rutin equivalent (RE)/g); T3 obtained the highest phenol content (230.27 mg GAE/g); and T1 the highest tannins content (0.23 mg (+) catechin equivalent (CE)/g). Finally, T1 and T5 are the ones that present the greatest number of primary metabolites, including hydroxycitric acid, 2-deoxy-D-galactose, D-mannose, paromomycin, palmitic acid, pyrrole, mannitol, and DL arabinose, while in T2, T3, and T4 only two chemical compounds were found present (palmitic acid and pyrrole in T2, silicic acid and pyrrole in T3 and 2-deoxy-D-galactose and quinoline in T4). The cultivation substrate influences the concentration of bioactive molecules in the fruiting bodies of P. djamor . Additionally, P. djamor's degradation of agave bagasse residue generates a potential application for agro-industrial residue management at a low cost.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a complex disease, determined by genetic, environmental and lifestyle-associated risk factors. Genetic (inherited) factors have great influence on its development; however, most cases of CRC are sporadic and gradually develop over several years. The main environmental risk factors are associated with b-catenin signaling pathway, including obesity, lack of physical activity, consumption of red and processed meats, alcoholism, and smoking. The pathway is related to cell homeostasis regulation and cell self-renewal during embryogenesis and adulthood. The main recommendation for preventing the development of CRC is to reduce the risk factors, increase the consumption of fruits, vegetables and grains, exercise regularly and limit the consumption of both alcohol and tobacco. However, family history and the presence of a hereditary syndrome increase the risk, which is why carrying out periodic examinations to detect CRC is suggested, using development predictors such as biochemical and molecular markers, which are discussed in this work., (Copyright: © 2023 Permanyer.)

Background: The use of the Model of End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) to predict morbidity and mortality after orthotopic liver transplant (OLT) is controversial. Acute and chronic liver failure-sequential evaluation of organ failure (CLIF-SOFA) is a new score that assess the patient's global status and that have been developed exclusively for patients with end-stage liver disease. The objective is to evaluate whether the CLIF-SOFA system predicts postoperative morbidity and mortality in the short and medium term., Methods: A cohort of 123 patients who underwent OLT in a tertiary care hospital between January 2016 and December 2017 was retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into 2 groups: group 1 with a CLIF-SOFA score <7 and group 2 with a score CLIF-SOFA ≥7., Results: Patients with a CLIF-SOFA ≥7 present, with statistical significance, had higher mortality at 1 and 3 years; longer duration of admission to the critical care unit; longer hospital stay; need for prolonged mechanical ventilation; surgical reintervention; higher rate of transfusion of blood products; pulmonary, neurologic, hemodynamic, surgical, infectious, kidney, metabolic, thrombotic, vascular, and graft complications; and need for kidney replacement therapy. However, no statistically significant differences were found in mortality in the first month, the need for hospital readmission, retransplant, digestive, endocrine, nutritional, hematologic, or biliary complications, and the presence of ascites., Conclusions: The role of CLIF-SOFA as a prognostic factor for mortality after OLT must be taken into account. Avocadoes are a rich source of nutrients and nutraceuticals that preserve human health. Nevertheless, this fruit is susceptible to phytopathogen infection during the postharvest period causing severe economic losses. Herein, we report on the in situ antifungal assessment of biodegradable films impregnated with the essential oil of Cinnamomum verum (CvEO) as natural fungistatic coatings to extend postharvest quality of Hass avocadoes (Persea americana cv. Hass). These coatings were evaluated on fruits previously infected with a native strain of Fusarium verticillioides. The cytotoxic assessment of CvEO on F. verticillioides revealed a minimum inhibitory concentration of 0.3±0.0 g L -1 whereas its chemical profiling showed (E)-cinnamaldehyde (45.9 %) 1,3,8-p-menthatriene (7.9 %) and linalool (6.8 %) as the major bioactive compounds. Four coatings (FC1-FC4) were made using chitosan (1 %) and a diverse quantity of CvEO (0.4-1.3 % w/v). The physicochemical properties demonstrated that the films FC3 and FC4 have the optimal characteristics of a food coating. Avocadoes preserved with the films FC3 and FC4 substantially kept (p<0.01) fruit firmness and the nutraceutical content of infected avocados at least for 21 d. The results of the present investigation suggest that our hybrid materials can conserve basic nutritional parameters such as fiber, protein, reducing sugars, as well as the content of unsaturated fatty acids which are the main nutraceuticals of this fruit., (© 2022 Wiley-VHCA AG, Zurich, Switzerland.)

In this work, we show a correlation between the composition and the microstructural and optical properties of bright and uniform luminescent porous silicon (PSi) films. PSi films were synthesized by electrochemical etching using nitric acid in an electrolyte solution. PSi samples synthesized with nitric acid emit stronger (up to six-fold greater) photoluminescence (PL) as compared to those obtained without it. The PL peak is shifted from 630 to 570 nm by changing the concentration ratio of the HF:HNO 3 :(EtOH-H 2 O) electrolyte solution, but also shifts with the excitation energy, indicating quantum confinement effects in the silicon nanocrystals (Si-NCs). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis shows a uniform silicon content in the PSi samples that emit the strongest PL. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy reveals that the Si-NCs in these PSi samples are about ~2.9 ± 0.76 nm in size and are embedded in a dense and stoichiometric SiO 2 matrix, as indicated by the Fourier transform infrared analysis. On the other hand, the PSi films that show PL of low intensity present an abrupt change in the silicon content depth and the formation of non-bridging oxygen hole center defects.

Hass avocadoes are one of the most popular fruits consumed worldwide because of their nutritional and nutraceutical content. Nevertheless, these fruits are susceptible to phytopathogen attacks that decrease fruit quality during the postharvest period. Herein we present the results of the in situ fungistatic activity of four hybrid films (FT1−FT4) manufactured with chitosan and different concentrations of the essential oil of thyme (TvEO). The films were evaluated as biodegradable materials to prevent fruit decay triggered by Clonostachys rosea which is considered an emergent phytopathogen of this crop. The in situ fungistatic strength, spectroscopic properties (FT-IR), optical features (transmittance/opacity), and consistency obtained by microscopic analysis (SEM), indicated that the films FT3 and FT4 possessed the best physicochemical properties to protect Hass avocadoes against the soft rot produced by C. rosea. Avocadoes treated with the films FT3 and FT4 significantly (p < 0.01) conserved fruit firmness and nutritional composition (protein, fat, fiber, and reducing sugars) as well as the nutraceutical content (oleic, palmitoleic, linoleic, and palmitic acids) of infected avocados for 21 days. Our results validate the potential use of the films FT3 and FT4 to prevent the soft rot caused by C. rosea and to improve the shelf life of Hass avocadoes.

Nanostructured silver (Ag) and gold (Au) are widely known to be potent biocidal and cytotoxic agents as well as biocompatible nanomaterials. It has been recently reported that combining both metals in a specific chemical composition causes a significant enhancement in their antibacterial activity against antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains, as well as in their anticancer effects, while preserving cytocompatibility properties. In this work, Ag/Au bimetallic nanoparticles over a complete atomic chemical composition range were prepared at 10 at% through a green, highly reproducible, and simple approach using starch as a unique reducing and capping agent. The noble metal nanosystems were thoroughly characterized by different analytical techniques, including UV-visible and FT-IR spectroscopies, XRD, TEM/EDS, XPS and ICP-MS. Moreover, absorption spectra simulations for representative colloidal Ag/Au-NP samples were conducted using FDTD modelling. The antibacterial properties of the bimetallic nanoparticles were determined against multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus , showing a clear dose-dependent inhibition even at the lowest concentration tested (5 µg/mL). Cytocompatibility assays showed a medium range of toxicity at low and intermediate concentrations (5 and 10 µg/mL), while triggering an anticancer behavior, even at the lowest concentration tested, in a process involving reactive oxygen species production per the nanoparticle Au:Ag ratio. In this manner, this study provides promising evidence that the presently fabricated Ag/Au-NPs should be further studied for a wide range of antibacterial and anticancer applications.

Cera pepper (Capsicum pubescens) is an exotic fruit considered as a rich source of nutraceuticals with known benefits for human health and also an economic resource for local producers in Mexico. The present investigation reports on the in vitro and in situ antifungal activity of the essential oil from Mentha piperita and its two major volatiles (menthol and menthone) against Fusarium sambucinum, which is a causal agent of soft rot in cera pepper. The application of these components in pepper fruits previously infected with F. sambucinum caused a significant delay (p<0.05) in the emergence of soft rot symptoms. This effect was reflected in the maintenance of pH and fruit firmness during a period of 10 days. The nutrimental content of the fruits (protein, fiber, fat and other proximate parameters) was conserved in the same period of time. The nutraceutical content of these fruits was estimated by the quantification of seven carotenoids (violaxanthin, cis-violaxanthin, luteoxanthin, antheraxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin and β-carotene), ascorbic acid and capsaicinoids (capsaicin and dihydrocapsaicin). According to our results, the essential oil from M. Piperita and its major volatiles exerted a preservative effect on these metabolites.
