With the rise in narco activity, feminicidios, armed robberies, the disappearing of people, and State violence as daily occurrences, how can we begin to make sense of such an overwhelming amount of loss? Utilizing the graphic novel to its fullest extent, Augusto Mora’s Los fantasmas de mi ciudad (The Ghosts of My City) is a visually stunning (re)interpretation of the violence that plagues the urban cityscapes of contemporary Mexico. Forming part of a long literary tradition of fantastic stories based in Mexico’s most populated areas, Mora’s graphic novel follows the story of a teenage medium, Viridiana San Juan, and her friends as they attempt to record video evidence of the tormented souls that haunt their city, all the while navigating the violent reality that surrounds them daily. Through her desire to tell the stories of the souls that haunt her visions, Mora constructs a simultaneous and compelling critique of the historical, social, and political practice that has filled Mexico’s urban areas with ghosts and the nonchalant attitude that has made violence a normal part of everyday life. By making the unseen victims of violence become visible, the subjectivities of the city’s millions and millions of ghosts can be recognized and their narratives reclaimed.

The release in 2022–23 of four creative works derived from Les Liaisons dangereuses, on screen and in graphic novel format and in French and English, demonstrates that the novel published in 1782 remains indisputably relevant. However, all these avatars differ considerably from the text on which they claim to be based, in particular by not using the unique epistolary narrative device designed by Laclos. Now seldom read in its original form, and probably poorly understood even by those who do venture to read it, Les Liaisons dangereuses nevertheless still exudes an aura powerful enough to encourage contemporaries to craft versions "adapted" to today's audiences. Rather than belittling or condemning these derivations as facile and inferior to the original, we need to question the ways in which they "re-present" in pop culture a classic whose longevity they continue to ensure. This article attempts to understand the content and aesthetic of the graphic novel Bhimayana: Experiences of Untouchability, in determining if its nature could be understood as a work of the avant-garde. In order to do so, the article will closely examine the aesthetic style employed by the author, the essence of the story, the content and the nature of its publication. These aspects will then be linked to the various understandings of the avant-garde to find out whether the graphic novel resonates with the principles of questioning ideas, methodologies and power structures. Bu çalışma, grafik romanların akademik literatürdeki yerini ve etkisini incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. The objective of this study is to define the graphic novel adaptation as a distinct subgenre of the graphic novel and to develop a cohesive methodology for its examination. The research material comprises Franco- and Anglophone graphic novel adaptations published since the early 2000s. It is noted that this subgenre has become one of the most popular forms of mass literature, characteristic of the twenty-first century as an era of visual culture. Based on a review of theoretical studies, the fundamental characteristics of graphic novel adaptations are articulated. An analysis of works from the past decade demonstrates the evolution of the subgenre under consideration. Specifically, it is observed that (1) the original narrative line is modified through the incorporation of themes and issues relevant to twenty-first-century individuals; (2) there is an increased complexity in character development, structure, and chronotope; (3) a philosophical dimension is foregrounded. It is shown that graphic novel adaptations can be categorized into two types based on target audience: mass (“low brow”) and intellectual (“high brow”). The “low brow” type primarily aims to popularize the reading of classic texts, while the “high brow” type represents an authorial interpretation of a well-known literary work. The intellectual form (“high brow”) has become increasingly prevalent since the 2010s.

AbstractThis paper explores how minoritized Computer Science (CS) students articulate their sense of critical agency to positively impact the world around them, both for today and the future, when participating in a Girls Who Code program focused on ethics, equity, and underrepresentation in computing. Observations, interviews, and surveys were conducted across five sites in which students read a graphic novel (entitled Power On!) about inequities in technology and CS education and experienced activities about computing for social good. Students described their agency through “educator,” “advocate,” and “creator” roles with computing, and described key curricular and pedagogical factors supporting their critical agency in CS for All. Indian graphic narratives of the post-millennial era have increasingly addressed pressing social issues such as casteism, environmental degradation, and urbanisation among others. Comics about caste typically showcase the remarkable lives of anti-caste icons in the form of graphic biographies, such as Bhimayana: Incidents in the Life of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (Vyam et al. 2011) and A Gardener in the Wasteland: Jotiba Phule's Fight for Liberty (Natarajan 2011). Published in 2022, Samarth's Suit continues a post-millennial trend by depicting safai karamcharis (transl. sanitation workers in India), who have been historically forced to engage in manual scavenging, as salaried employees in a futuristic setting with protective suits while also confronting the persisting social issue of casteism. In particular, Suit expands the conversation about caste and comics by boldly depicting the inhumane treatment and illegal practice of manual scavenging (which is rampant in Mumbai) and its entanglements with casteism. In this context, Samarth in an email interview shares his views on caste and comics in India, emphasising the need for greater representation and discussion of marginalised communities, and highlighting the importance of shedding light on issues like manual scavenging, which continue to affect Dalits and other oppressed groups in India. This paper analyses the graphic novel Une histoire du droit international. De Salamanque à Guantanamo , the storyboard of which was created by two professors of international law. The review essay focuses on the content of the graphic novel and its peculiarities in narrating the history of international law, comparing the volume with other monographs and scientific articles on the same topic. The intended wide audience of the book may help in understanding the chronological approach taken by the authors among other possible approaches to the history of international law, such as a thematic or a postcolonial approach. Over the last fifty years, as East Asian immigration to Spain has grown, so too has a desire to transcend identarian borders between race and nation. East Asian Spaniards born in democracy come of age chafing against a polarized paradigm that conceives of their race as fundamentally at odds with their nationality. I analyze two autobiographies by East Asian Spaniards that contend with and contest this binary: Chenta Tsai Tseng's, pseudonym Putochinomaricón, Arroz tres delicias: Sexo, raza y género (2019) and Quan Zhou Wu's La agridolce vita (2023). Each autobiography recounts its authors' struggles to reconcile diametrically-opposed identities as members of the growing East Asian diasporic community in Spain. In centering transcendence as a textual act, I illuminate the ways in which new identities are created through the autobiographical text, and the way in which the act of writing offers an archive of alternative identities from which to establish textual selves as open to the heterogeneity of rapidly-diversifying Spain. I conclude by framing these autobiographies as spaces in which urgent, yet uncomfortable dialogues around heterogeneity and homogeneity in Spain take place. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The utilization of graphic novels in the realm of clinical medicine is an infrequent occurrence. However, there is a burgeoning interest in their application across a spectrum of pathological conditions with the ultimate aim of enhancing patient care. This study is a prospective pilot designed to assess the influence of graphic novels on the stress levels and behavioral responses of patients diagnosed with pancreatic lesions and who are to undergo endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle biopsy (EUS-FNB). Patients exhibiting radiological and clinical pancreatic lesions needing biopsy will be evaluated consecutively. The inclusion criteria encompass the presence of a solid pancreatic mass or a partially solid mass in the event of a cystic component. The exclusion criteria include patients with cognitive impairments, those currently on benzodiazepines or other psychotropic medications, and those with a prior diagnosis of cancer. The authors have developed a comic panel comprising a sequence of six vibrant vignettes, which delineate the standard procedure of EUS-FNB to the patient. Following hospital admission, patients whomeet the enrolment criteria and consent to participate in the studywill be randomly assigned to either the test or the control group. A graphic novel will be distributed to all patients in the test group, who will have the opportunity to peruse it while awaiting the procedure. Subsequent to the EUS-FNB, all enrolled patients will complete the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and amodified version of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21 (termed mDASS-21 or mASS-14). The BAI, a 21-itemself-report inventory, is employed to gauge the severity of anxiety in adults. The other questionnaire is a modified rendition of the DASS-21, which originally comprised 21 items segregated into three subscales (anxiety, stress, and depression) with seven items each. The anxiety subscale measures physiological arousal, situational anxiety, and the subjective experience of the effects of anxiety, while the stress subscale assesses chronic non-specific arousal, difficulty relaxing, nervous tension, irritability, agitation, and impatience. This essay examines how crip-queer ethics of care is represented in two case studies from contemporary feminist graphic fiction. A comparative textual and theoretical analysis is conducted to examine diverse queer communities represented in Amruta Patil's graphic novel Kari and Sybil Lamb's illustrated novel I've Got a Time Bomb. Both novels use crip-queer aesthetics to deconstruct gender binaries and pave the way for a more radical, fluid, and inclusive culture. Using Robert McRuer, Carrie Sandahl, and Jack Halberstam's theories of gender and disability, the essay examines how Patil and Lamb create protagonists that combat the very category of the "normative" in white heterosexist patriarchy. In 2019, the Peruvian comic strip Selva Misteriosa was republished in the format of a graphic novel, reintroducing one of Peru’s most important comic referents to a contemporary audience. An icon of the early 70s, Selva Misteriosa is an adventure comic that follows Javico, an adventurer and family man making a living in the Peruvian Rainforest. The main focus of this article is tracing back the corporeal representation in the comic as a remnant of the anxieties the Spanish colonizers faced when confronted with the new environment of the Americas. This paper argues that, although the understanding of the body has changed dramatically, the underlying anxieties the Spanish conquistadors faced have remained with the Peruvian creole elite, and Selva Misteriosa shows a new expression of these anxieties in the, at the time, still unknown environment of the rainforest. In this regard, Javico’s idealized body and subjectivity is contrasted with the vulnerability the creole body still shows in the character of “El Finado”. As such, the ambivalent portrayal of the creole body shows the lack of resolution for the possibility of contaminating and changing the purity of the creole body and subjectivity. Milton Hatoum’s devoted readership has become an economic asset for crossover audiences the last ten years, and nowhere is this more visible than with his “modern classic,” the Jabuti Prize-winning Dois Irmãos (2000), which has been adapted for television, theater, and comics. Identical twin Brazilian cartoonists Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon’s graphic adaptation of the same name in 2015 not only won the prestigious Eisner Award, but it was also accompanied by a strong marketing campaign from Hatoum’s editorial press utilizing the brothers’ fraternal status and mass cultural appeal to expand readership bases. Drawing on Angela Landsberg’s “prosthetic memory,” Pointner and Boschenhoff’s exploration of spatial embodiment in graphic adaptations, and recent Latin American comic scholarship linking military dictatorships and the rise of memory discourses, this article demonstrates that Moon and Bá’s hauntingly beautiful rendition, far from being derivative or merely “faithful,” is able to apply medium-specific strategies to even more effectively render Hatoum’s association between individual history and national allegory, in the process introducing new generations of citizens increasingly alienated from Brazil’s darkest period. The field of ecology in literature distorted the notion of humans being the centre of all living ecosystems, striving for an “environment that is neither solipsistically anthropocentric nor blatantly anti-humanitarian” (Lauer, 2018, p.13). This led to the emergence of ecocriticism, which dealt with environmental issues through literature. “To put it succinctly, eco criticism is the study of the relationship between literature and the physical environment… [As it] takes an earth-centred approach to literary studies” (Glotfelty & Fromm, 1996, p.18). Meanwhile, disregarding the societal norms constructed on sex, gender, and identity emerged queer theory, suggesting the fluidity of the human body. Despite their inherent differences, environmental criticism and queer theory have the opportunity to combine to produce a new dimension called queer ecology. This analysis aims to establish a connection between eco-criticism and queer theory, shedding light on the concept of queer ecology through the analysis of the literary text Kari. Kari, written by the first female graphic novelist, stands as a pioneering Indian lesbian graphic novel that effectively dismantles prevailing societal norms and challenges perspectives on genderqueer individuals. Further, the analysis narrows itself to an eco-conscious approach from a queer perspective, which claims to be the main argument of the article. In its graphical representation, this analysis also focuses on the meaning nature provides us through symbols defining eco-semiotics. The purpose of the study is to contribute to a greater understanding of environmental exploitation concerning the marginalisation experienced by the queer community. The eco-conscious attitude that is looked upon from a queer perspective serves to prove the mutual interdependence between eco-critical and queer sexual desires that are often negated, ignored, exploited and marginalised amidst the dominant ideological discourses.

Abstract Academic integrity is a crucial aspect of the educational process, often receiving insufficient attention until a violation occurs. Researchers emphasize the importance of students comprehending academic integrity to foster ethical professionalism. However, there is a lack of resources available to effectively support these conversations. This study aims to assess academic integrity efficacy and the multi-dimensional ethical scale (MES) through the use of a graphic novel mini-case study. The analysis reveals a significant relationship between academic integrity efficacy, MES dimensions (moral equity, relativism and contractualism), and the case studies among undergraduate participants. The combination of quantitative and qualitative findings provides valuable insights into how graphic novel mini-cases can engage in academic integrity discussions with undergraduate students. The graphic novel mini-cases, along with their limitations and potential for future research, are provided.

This essay explores the haunting shadows of coloniality through the lens of shame and grief. Highlighting the graphic novel Grass by Keum Suk Gendry-Kim, I trace the diasporic linkages between gendered violence, colonial amnesia, and the patriarchal silencing of the stories of 'comfort women.' I argue that the search for legibility and homecoming trouble shame, grief, and memory. Shame and the female body play a central role in the narrative and visual framework of Gendry-Kim's graphic novel. It challenges us to reconsider our understanding of history by engaging with shame that disrupts history. Such alternative archives of memory are important in that they articulate exclusions that frame history, documenting stories about home, diaspora, displacement, and their aftereffects from the vantage point of women who are relegated to the haunting shadows left by the legacies of war. The concept of liminality is fundamentally borrowed from anthropology to explore its application in literary and cultural studies, which remains largely understudied to this date. Liminality essentially signifies a state of in-betweenness characterised by significant factors, such as uncertainty, ambiguity, anxiety, loss of previous values, identity-crisis, isolation and dilemma. The present paper intends to investigate the tropes of liminality in the graphic novel as well as its application to understand the process of transformation of the protagonist as expressed through grids, gutters and panels by employing Victor Turner's 'Theory of Liminality'. Further, the later part is dedicated to explore the silhouettes of activism using Turner's concept of 'anti-structure', through the theme of vegetation visible throughout the novel. The present work not only attempts to trace the liminality of the protagonist in Gendry-Kim's Grass(2019) but also ventures into establishing the liminal status of the genre of graphic novel itself. The study, thus, presents us an opportunity to explore one of the aggressively silenced and traumatic histories of 'comfort women issue' through the lens of Gendry-Kim's recently published graphic novel Grass(2019). Background/Aim: Childhood dental trauma poses a prevalent concern, and the limited knowledge of lay caregivers toward the needed immediate actions can adversely affect a child's well‐being. This study aimed to create and validate an educational comic book for lay individuals, designed to guide immediate actions in dental trauma cases, and assess its effects toward enhancing reader knowledge. Methodology: The four‐stage study involved: (1) Literature review and script development; (2) Version 1 of the comic book creation (including illustrations, layout, and design) and Flesch Readability Index (FI) calculation; (3) Version 1 validation by expert judges, assessed by the Content Validity Index (CVI); (4) Version 1 refinement based on the judges' feedback, recalculation of FI, and a pilot test (CVI) involving lay individuals who validated the final material (Version 2). The validation process involved 67 participants, including 13 specialist judges and 54 elementary school teachers. Results: The CVI for Version 1 was calculated at 0.89 (89%), indicating a favorable level of agreement on the evaluated criteria. The FI was determined as 91.1%, indicating a high level of readability. The FI for Version 2 was 92.1% (indicating a very easy level of comprehension). The CVI calculated for the target audience after the pilot test was 0.99 (99%), denoting a substantial agreement among the participants. In assessing the level of knowledge, a significant increase was observed in the rate of correct answers after the comic book was read by lay individuals (p < 0.05), inasmuch as the percentage rose from 50.5% before to 81.2% after reading it. Conclusion: The educational comic book proved valid in terms of readability, appearance, and content. Furthermore, it had a positive impact on gaining the knowledge needed to take the appropriate actions, thus making it a valuable tool for guiding the lay population in cases of dental trauma. This qualitative study examined the written responses of 58 undergraduate, preservice teachers in three online children's literature courses to the graphic novel, When stars are scattered by Victoria Jamieson and Omar Mohamed. Findings from a summative content analysis of participants' written responses showed five response themes: Connections & Bookjoy, Eye-Opening, American Myth, Navel Gazing, and Inequity. Participants reported learning about refugee experiences; however, their connections were shallow, with some distancing themselves from the protagonists' realities. These findings point to the importance of increased levels of instructor scaffolding with explicit attention to developing students' identities and critical reflection so that they can learn from their own response patterns to stories with themes of world/national injustices, immigration causes/effects, and diversity in general. Future research into how the growth of such understandings and dispositions may impact the ways new teachers engage with their own students and approach literacy instruction and assessment. Drawing on a larger project on teaching Swedish as a second language to migrant upper secondary school students in Sweden, this paper focuses on one teacher’s literature class and a book-group discussion about a graphic novel based on Selma Lagerlöf’s A Tale of a Manor. The aim was to contribute to further knowledge on the dialogic potential of teacher-led literary discussions on graphic novels with language learners, by focusing on the cumulative aspect of the interaction. We also analyzed the teacher’s role and how it affected the students’ responses and interpretations. Our findings show how the cumulative dialogue created new student insights relating to the novel’s protagonists, literary themes and the saga genre, which is central in Lagerlöf’s novels, and how literary concepts and visual cues were used as resources for interpretation. The discussion of the graphic novel included multifaceted and multimodal analyses, in which the teacher urged the students to formulate interpretations and responses anchored in both the written text and the images. This teacher-led dialogue holds great potential for encouraging students’ literary reading, as well as their confidence when it comes to giving responses to literature, which is of relevance to similar language and literature teaching contexts.

The article discusses the key translation solutions that have been applied by translators in the binary and intersemiotic translation (film adaptation) of a graphic novel about the Marvel universe. The object of the study includes occasionalisms, substandard lexis and onomatopoeia in the graphic novel “X-Men: Battle of the Atom” as one of the most popular within the analyzed universe. Within the framework of the research, such linguistic methods as the continuous selection method, the contextual analysis method, the structural and semantic analysis method, the descriptive method, the comparative analysis method, the contrastive analysis method, as well as quantitative calculation methods are used. The authors conduct a comparative translation analysis of the translation and the original of the comics “X-Men: Battle of the Atom”, during which they identify occasionalisms and distribute them into certain thematic groups. The study highlights the main types of onomatopoeia typical of the English-language graphic novels. The calculation and analysis of translation solutions used in the transfer of onomatopes used in the comics into the Russian language are carried out. Attention is paid to the main types of stylistically substandard lexis – vulgarisms and swear words, which are also considered in terms of translation from English into Russian. When analyzing the transformations of the verbal component of a graphic novel in its intersemiotic translation (film adaptation), the authors focus on the occasional lexis, since in this type of translation only occasionalisms can have correspondences. The substandard lexis in the film adaptation is omitted, and when translating onomatopoeia, the verbal component is converted into the sound component of the film text. In the intersemiotic translation, only a part of the occasionalisms is preserved, which is conditioned by the reduction in the number of characters and significant locations.

This article examines the visualization of violence experienced by the Palestinian people against Israeli occupation in the Graphic Novel by Joe Sacco. This study is literature research using David Wasterfors' social theory of "Violence as a story". The primary data sources in this study are the graphic novels Palestine (2002) and Footnotes in Gaza (2010). This study uses a historical approach with the method of reading comic studies (science) to describe visually (images) and narratively based on the experiences of documentary studies (memorials) of the Palestinian people's struggle for independence. Through the "Violence as a Story" approach, this study found Joe Sacco's skill in telling the story of violence experienced by the Palestinian people against Israeli occupation from the beginning of the war in 1948 to the events that occurred in the graphic novel by combining images (visuals) and appropriate narratives as panels in the graphic novel. Readers are made to feel as if they are entering and feeling what the Palestinians feel.

The social construction of disability is an issue that needs to be analysed and examined in order to arrive at a proper understanding of the discipline. Disability studies from the beginning of its journey has undergone many changes of perspectives, from a medically determined categorisation to a social model of disability, thereby leading to a distinction between impairment and disability. In spite of these transitions, society still fails to possess a more sensitive attitude. Among different categories of reservation among government policies, we come across a category called “PWD” which means Persons with Disabilities. Although this categorisation is supposed to provide more opportunities to differently abled people but the nomenclature itself is derogatory. The objective of this paper is to analyse a Graphic novel Mai by Sriram Jagannath to find out how the issue of disability is received by the society and the efficacy of the graphic medium to bring about a change in perspective regarding people with disabilities.

This qualitative study highlights how children's literature can serve as a springboard for discussing current events while making connections with a similar historical event. Undergraduate students enrolled in children's literature courses read the graphic novel Fever Year: The Killer Flu of 1918 and discussed the parallels between the book and the COVID‐19 pandemic. Findings indicate strong text‐to‐self and text‐to‐world connections between the events of the flu of 1918 highlighted in the graphic novel and those of the COVID‐19 pandemic. Connections included restrictions and closures, mask mandates, vaccine development, medical theories, and theories of spread. Information dissemination and consumption was a prominent theme. Reconstructions of the Brontë sisters as exceptional women, worthy of empathy and admiration by twenty-first-century readers, increasingly rely on the entanglements of the sisters' literary ambitions and limiting contemporary gender roles. By relying on visual and topical appeals in the form of graphic novels and detective stories, neo-Victorian adaptations of the Brontës further broaden the dimension of biofiction (and vice versa). As instances of popular literature, Isabel Greenberg's graphic novel Glass Town (2020) and Bella Ellis's (aka Rowan Coleman's) Brontë Sisters Mystery Series (2019-) present creative approaches to and engagements with the Brontës, indicating that for a contemporary readership, interest in the authors as protofeminist characters proves to be just as important as interest in their literary oeuvre. We propose to analyze how emotions and stereotypes circulate, using the example of recent UNESCO publications in artificial intelligence (AI). Yuri Lotman outlined two types of restrictions imposed by culture on human behavior, regulated by shame or fear, respectively. This distinction coincides with the division of the collective into 'we' and 'they' groups. The circulation of emotions is a semiotic process, and in the discourse on AI, the primary emotion is fear. Today, our attitude to artificial intelligence is regulated by fear and is based on dividing the collective into 'we' (ours, people) and 'they' (others, AI). However, several international organizations are discussing issues related to the ethics of AI. They propose moving from a system of relations with AI based on fear ('we' - 'he') to regulation based on shame (creating a new ethical community around 'we'). This community should be understood in the spirit of anthroposemiotic studies of recent years: human interaction, collectives, habitats, and imaginations. In 2022, UNESCO launched an original graphic project to block the circulation of AI-associated fears and stereotypes. The graphic novel Inside AI is presented in several language versions. The versions of the title can be interpreted as illustrating types of semiotic existence: virtual (in Spanish), actual (in French), and realized (in English). The task of blocking the circulation of fear and overcoming it by immersing yourself in the world of AI is carried out through the prism of gender discourse. Readers are invited to take a journey into the world of AI in the company of four characters, three women, and one man. Specific gender features and fears mark each of them's discourse. Today, as the function of graphics as a marker of metalinguistic expression increases, the UNESCO graphic novel is intended to combat fears and stop the circulation of gender stereotypes simultaneously. One of the important themes in the issue of urban ecology is how to build a resilient urban society. Urban resilience is defined as the capacity of a city's individuals, communities, institutions, businesses, and systems to survive, adapt, and grow against continuous stress and major shocks. However, efforts to communicate the various urban resilience programs still need to be improved. This study aims to develop a campaign medium and dissemination of flood disaster mitigation programs through visual communication approaches in the form of graphic novel. This graphic novel narrates the activities of one of the disaster preparedness communities in carrying out flood disaster mitigation actions in the city of Surakarta, Indonesia. This graphic novel's creation applied a codesign method, meaning that the process involves all stakeholders in the flood mitigation program (especially community members). The codesign method implemented its three principles: collaborative, inclusive, and people-centered. The utilization of graphic novels in the realm of clinical medicine is an infrequent occurrence. However, there is a burgeoning interest in their application across a spectrum of pathological conditions with the ultimate aim of enhancing patient care. This study is a prospective pilot designed to assess the influence of graphic novels on the stress levels and behavioral responses of patients diagnosed with pancreatic lesions and who are to undergo endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle biopsy (EUS-FNB). Patients exhibiting radiological and clinical pancreatic lesions needing biopsy will be evaluated consecutively. The inclusion criteria encompass the presence of a solid pancreatic mass or a partially solid mass in the event of a cystic component. The exclusion criteria include patients with cognitive impairments, those currently on benzodiazepines or other psychotropic medications, and those with a prior diagnosis of cancer. The authors have developed a comic panel comprising a sequence of six vibrant vignettes, which delineate the standard procedure of EUS-FNB to the patient. Following hospital admission, patients who meet the enrolment criteria and consent to participate in the study will be randomly assigned to either the test or the control group. A graphic novel will be distributed to all patients in the test group, who will have the opportunity to peruse it while awaiting the procedure. Subsequent to the EUS-FNB, all enrolled patients will complete the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and a modified version of the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21 (termed mDASS-21 or mASS-14). The BAI, a 21-item self-report inventory, is employed to gauge the severity of anxiety in adults. The other questionnaire is a modified rendition of the DASS-21, which originally comprised 21 items segregated into three subscales (anxiety, stress, and depression) with seven items each. The anxiety subscale measures physiological arousal, situational anxiety, and the subjective experience of the effects of anxiety, while the stress subscale assesses chronic non-specific arousal, difficulty relaxing, nervous tension, irritability, agitation, and impatience.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to report an educational technology construction on nursing professionals’ rights. Methods: an experience report on educational technology construction during the crediting of university extension hours in an undergraduate nursing course at a Brazilian public university, between March and June 2023. The Deming cycle was used as a procedural method. Results: four meetings were held between students and extension workers. Eight comic books were produced based on the Code of Ethics for Nurses, addressing professional autonomy, fair remuneration, risk-free work, denial of exposure in the media and others. The Deming cycle proved to be an important strategy for constructing products. Conclusions: nursing professionals’ rights must be discussed and improved. Educational technologies, such as comic books, provide playful and reflective learning.
