1. A systematic review and net meta-analysis of the effects of different warm-up methods on the acute effects of lower limb explosive strength

Abstract: Abstract Objective To evaluate the effects of different warm-up methods on the acute effect of lower limb explosive strength with the help of a reticulated meta-analysis system and to track the optimal method. Methods R software combined with Stata software, version 13.0, was used to analyse the outcome metrics of the 35 included papers. Mean differences (MD) were pooled using a random effects model. Results 1) Static combined with dynamic stretching [MD = 1.80, 95% CI: (0.43, 3.20)] and dynamic stretching [MD = 1.60, 95% CI: (0.67, 2.60)] were significantly better than controls in terms of improving countermovement jump height (cm), and the effect of dynamic stretching was influenced by the duration of stretching (I2 = 80.4%), study population (I2 = 77.2%) and age (I2 = 75.6%) as moderating variables, with the most significant effect size for dynamic stretching time of 7–10min. 2) Only dynamic stretching [MD = -0.08, 95% CI: (-0.15, -0.008)] was significantly better than the control group in terms of improving sprint time (s), while static stretching [MD = 0.07, 95% CI: (0.002, 0.13)] showed a significant, negative effect. 3) No results were available to demonstrate a significant difference between other methods, such as foam axis rolling, and the control group. Conclusion The results of this review indicate that static stretching reduced explosive performance, while the 2 warm-up methods, namely dynamic stretching and static combined with dynamic stretching, were able to significantly improve explosive performance, with dynamic stretching being the most stable and moderated by multiple variables and dynamic stretching for 7–10min producing the best explosive performance. In the future, high-quality studies should be added based on strict adherence to test specifications.

Abstract: Abstract We report multi-differential measurements of strange hadron production ranging from mid- to target-rapidity in Au+Au collisions at a center-of-momentum energy per nucleon pair of s NN $$ \sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 3 GeV with the STAR experiment at RHIC. K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ meson and Λ hyperon yields are measured via their weak decay channels. Collision centrality and rapidity dependences of the transverse momentum spectra and particle ratios are presented. Particle mass and centrality dependence of the average transverse momenta of Λ and K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ are compared with other strange particles, providing evidence of the development of hadronic rescattering in such collisions. The 4π yields of each of these strange hadrons show a consistent centrality dependence. Discussions on radial flow, the strange hadron production mechanism, and properties of the medium created in such collisions are presented together with results from hadronic transport and thermal model calculations.

4. [Burn injury should be considered as a chronic disease]

Abstract: Burn is a special type of trauma, which initiates with skin injury and subsequently causes damages to various systems of the whole body. Burn was regarded as an acute injury in the past, while burn is also considered as a disease now. In recent years, more and more recent evidences have demonstrated that burn injury has a continuous and long-term influence on the life, work, and health status of burn survivors. Therefore, we proposed that burn should be considered as a chronic disease and briefly summarized the long-term effects of burns on mortality, psychology, metabolism, immune system, cardiovascular system, and occurrence of infection and tumor in discharged burn victims. We hope this work can improve the understanding of the long-term effects of burns among medical staff, burn patients and their relatives, and social workers.烧伤是一种以皮肤损伤为始发因素、可能影响全身各系统的特殊类型创伤。既往认为烧伤是一种伤，现在认为它也是一种病。近年来，越来越多证据表明，烧伤可对患者的生存、生活、健康状况等产生持续、长期的影响。因此，该文提出烧伤可被看作是一种慢性疾病的理念，并阐述了烧伤对治愈出院患者的病死率、精神心理疾病、代谢、免疫系统、心血管系统、感染及肿瘤发生等的长期影响，以期提高医务人员、烧伤患者及其亲属、社会工作者等对烧伤长期影响的认识并加强相关研究。.

Main funding source(s): The National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China Background Acute heart failure (AHF) is a significant public health problem related to the high mortality and rehospitalization rate of patients. Although drug development is never interrupted, no single drug has been proven to play a decisive role in improving the survival of AHF patients. In China, multi-component traditional Chinese medicine has been widely used to treat AHF. As a Chinese herbal injection included in medical insurance, Yiqi Fumai Injection can reduce the level of NT-proBNP in AHF patients, improve heart function, and alleviate symptoms and signs related to heart failure. To further evaluate the therapeutic effect of Yiqi Fumai Injection on AHF, a multi-center, double-blind, randomized controlled trial that intends to recruit 1270 patients is being carried out in China. However, the mechanism of Yiqi Fumai Injection in the treatment of AHF has not been clarified. To further explore the underlying mechanism, we used systematic pharmacology methods to explore the potential molecular mechanisms of biologically active compounds. Methods We used the databases of HERB, the Encyclopedia of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ETCM), the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD), Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM), and GeneCards to predict the active ingredients and potential targets of Yiqi Fumai Injection in the treatment of AHF. STRING was used for PPI network construction and analysis. Cytoscape was used to build a network between Chinese medicine, ingredients and targets. The DAVID, GO, and KEGG databases were used to predict the potential pathways of Yiqi Fumai Injection for the treatment of AHF. Results We obtained 31 active compounds of Yiqi Fumai Injection from HERB and ECTM databases. By overlapping targets between YQFMI and AHF, a total of 240 potential targets for Yiqi Fumai Injection to treat AHF were selected. According to the H-C-T network topology analysis, the core compounds include beta-sitosterol, Uridine, Guanosine, and Stigmasterol. Sixteen protein targets had significantly higher node degrees than the average in the PPI network, including AKT1, JUN, TNF, EDN1, CASP3, ESR1, DLG4, PTGS2, NOS3, IL1B, C3, AR, LEP, CNR1, CHRM2, and DRD2. The PPI results showed that the potential therapeutic targets of YQFMI were densely enriched in pathways related to endothelial function, neuromodulation, and lipid metabolism.The same results were shown in GO and KEGG pathway enrichment. Conclusion Our results indicate that Yiqi Fumai Injection may achieve the goal of improving AHF-related symptoms by regulating the function of vascular endothelium and nerves and the biosynthetic pathway of lipid metabolism. These findings support previous studies and provide a reference for studying the mechanism of Yiqi Fumai Injection in the treatment of AHF. Abstract Figure.

12. [Research advances on the prevention and treatment strategies of burn wound progressive deepening]

Abstract: The progressive deepening of burn wounds is one of the common clinical problems and difficulties in early burn treatment. At the present, it is believed that local ischemia and hypoxia, persistent inflammation, infection, unbalanced local microenvironment, cell necrosis, apoptosis, and autophagy are the main mechanisms of progressive deepening of burn wounds. In recent years, basic and clinical studies have proposed various new strategies for prevention and treatment of progressive deepening of burn wounds, mainly including correct cooling, improving blood perfusion of the wound, early debridement, improving the wound microenvironment, preventing and treating wound infection, reducing wound inflammation, and inhibiting the oxidative stress in the wound. Abstract: It has been suggested that organophosphate pesticides can cause cognitive impairment, most of which are presented as mild cognitive impairment such as decreased attention or vigilance, reduced information processing speed and memory impairment. An early diagnosis and timely intervention in mild cognitive impairment, which may provide a better prognosis. Mild cognitive impairment in clinical work can be easily ignored for a long time. However, it have a particularly impact on patients' life and work, and even progress to irreversible neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Therefore, clinicians should raise the cognition of organophosphate pesticides poisoning in patients with cognitive impairment, especially for patients with mild cognitive impairment, and the significance of early detection and diagnosis of the disease is particularly important.有机磷农药中毒可致认知功能发生损伤，多数表现为注意力下降、警觉性降低、信息处理速度下降、记忆障碍等轻度认知功能障碍；而轻度认知功能障碍早诊断和及时干预可有较好的预后。实际临床工作中轻度认知功能障碍易长期被忽视，但对患者生活和工作可造成严重影响，甚至进展为阿尔茨海默病及帕金森病等不可逆性的神经退行性病变。因此，临床医师应提高有机磷农药中毒对患者认知功能损害的认识，尤其是针对患者发生轻度认知功能障碍时，其早发现、早诊断的意义尤为重要。.

Abstract: Background and aimsEndovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is the current standard of care for large vessel occlusion (LVO) acute ischemic stroke (AIS); however, up to two-thirds of EVT patients have poor functional outcomes despite successful reperfusion. Many radiological markers have been studied as predictive biomarkers for patient outcomes in AIS. This study seeks to determine which clinico-radiological factors are associated with outcomes of interest to aid selection of patients for EVT for LVO AIS.MethodsA retrospective study of patients who underwent EVT from 2016 to 2020 was performed. Data on various radiological variables, such as anatomical parameters, clot characteristics, collateral status, and infarct size, were collected alongside traditional demographic and clinical variables. Univariate and multivariate analysis was performed for the primary outcomes of functional independence at 3 months post-stroke (modified Rankin Scale 0–2) and secondary outcomes of in-hospital mortality and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage.ResultsThe study cohort comprised 325 consecutive patients with anterior circulation LVO AIS (54.5% male) with a median age of 68 years (interquartile range 57–76). The median NIHSS was 19. Age, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Alberta mCTA score, ASPECTS, clot length, thrombus HU and mTICI score and the angle between ICA and CCA were associated with functional outcomes at 3 months on univariate analysis. On multivariate analysis, age, Alberta mCTA collaterals and NIHSS were significantly associated with functional outcomes, while ASPECTS approached significance.ConclusionAmong the many proposed radiological markers for patients in the hyperacute setting undergoing EVT, the existing well-validated clinico-radiological measures remain strongly associated with functional status.

Abstract: The AMoRE-II experiment will search for the 0νββ decay of 100Mo nuclei using molybdate crystal scintillators, operating at milli-Kelvin (mK) temperatures, with a total of 80 kg of 100Mo. The background goal for the experiment is 10–4 counts/keV/kg/year in the region of interest around the 0νββ decay Q-value of 3,034 keV. To achieve this level, the rate of background signals arising from emissions produced by decays of radioactive impurities in the detector and shielding materials must be strictly controlled. To do this, concentrations of such impurities are measured and are controlled through materials selection and purification. In this paper, we describe the design and the construction materials used to build the AMoRE-II detector and shielding system, including active and passive shielding, the cryostat, and the detector holders and instrumentation, and we report on measurements of radioactive impurities within candidate and selected materials.

Abstract: According to the needs of ultrasonic vibration feeding, we developed an ultrasonic piezoelectric feeding device. The device with unrestricted length and width and the feeding speed is uniform. we analyzed feeding the boundary conditions and calculated the expression of the average feeding speed. Using ANSYS to analyze the relevant parameters of feeding vibrator, we made the piezoelectric feeding vibrator and carried out a series of experiments to test the feeding effect by using Laser Doppler vibrometry. The results showed that the amplitude of the first order longitudinal vibration is maximum when the excitation frequency is 34.7kHz; When the feeding device is at the excitation frequency and the driving voltage is 130V, the feeding effect of the heavy material with smooth surface is very good (M10×30 bolts, M20 nuts); Materials with rough surface and lighter than 0.5g have almost no feeding capacity (tablets and grains), and the feeding device has certain selectivity for materials; When the mass of material is 72g, the feeding speed can reach 60.45mm/s. The study provides a reference for the research of ultrasonic feeding device.

Abstract: To investigate the correlations of the computed tomography (CT) signs of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with pathological features and the expression levels of phosphoprotein 53 (p53) and c-Myc in patients.87 patients with NSCLC admitted to the Department of Oncology in our hospital from July 2014 to March 2017 were randomly selected. Morphologies of NSCLC and cancer-adjacent tissues were detected by hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining; messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and protein levels of p53 and c-Myc in cancer and cancer-adjacent tissues were detected using real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry (IHC); spiral CT (SCT) was conducted for exploring imaging signs of patients with NSCLC; the correlation of CT signs with pathology and the expressions of p53 and c-Myc was analyzed.HE staining showed that NSCLC tissues had a larger nucleus, a larger nucleus-cytoplasm ratio, and a more evident histopathological atypia, with no clear histological structure compared with cancer-adjacent normal tissues; RT-PCR and IHC results revealed that the mRNA and protein expression levels of p53 and c-Myc in NSCLC tissues were significantly higher than those in cancer-adjacent tissues, in which differences in mRNA levels were 1.75 folds and 1.84 folds, respectively (p0.05). SCT signs indicated that swollen lymph nodes and spiculation, spinous process and deep lobulation signs often occurred in the chest of NSCLC patients, and pleural indentation appeared in the majority of patients; the chi-square test results showed that the positive rates of p53 and c-Myc proteins were not related to pathological types of NSCLC, but significantly correlated with tumor differentiation (p0.05); the positive rates of p53 and c-Myc proteins were correlated with tumor diameter, spiculation and deep lobulation signs and lymph node metastasis (p0.05), but not associated with spinous process, vacuole and pleural indentation signs (p0.05).CT scan combined with the detection of p53 and c-Myc expressions can improve the diagnosis of lymph node metastasis and clinical staging for patients with NSCLC, which is conducive to the clinical treatment and prognosis analysis of NSCLC.

Abstract: Titanium alloy and stainless steel (SS) had been widely used as dental implant materials because of their affinity with epithelial tissue and connective tissue, and good physical, chemical, biological, mechanical properties and processability. We compared the effects of titanium alloy and SS on macrophage cytokine expression as well as their biocompatibility. Mouse macrophage RAW264.7 cells were cultured on titanium alloy and SS surfaces. Cells were counted by scanning electron microscopy. A nitride oxide kit was used to detect released nitric oxide by macrophages on the different materials. An enzyme linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 levels. Scanning electron microscopy revealed fewer macrophages on the surface of titanium alloy (48.2 ± 6.4 x 10(3) cells/cm(2)) than on SS (135 ± 7.3 x 10(3) cells/cm(2)). The nitric oxide content stimulated by titanium alloy was 22.5 mM, which was lower than that stimulated by SS (26.8 mM), but the difference was not statistically significant (P = 0.07). The level of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 released was significantly higher in the SS group (OD value = 0.128) than in the titanium alloy group (OD value = 0.081) (P = 0.024). The transforming growth factor-b1 mRNA expression levels in macrophages after stimulation by titanium alloy for 12 and 36 h were significantly higher than that after stimulation by SS (P = 0.31 and 0.25, respectively). Macrophages participate in the inflammatory response by regulating cytokines such as nitric oxide, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and transforming growth factor-b1. There were fewer macrophages and lower inflammation on the titanium alloy surface than on the SS surface. Titanium alloy materials exhibited better biological compatibility than did SS.

Abstract: MiR-181a plays a critical role in modulating T cell and B cell differentiation, as well as immune response. Its abnormal expression probably participates in the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). MiR-203 is involved in regulating Toll-like receptor and inducing immune tolerance. Abnormal expression or function of miR-203 is related to multiple auto-immune diseases but its role in SLE remains unclear. This study, thus, investigated the serum level of miR-181a and miR-203, to analyze their roles in diagnosing and evaluating SLE.SLE patients were recruited from our hospital, and divided into non-active and active SLE based on disease activity index, along with healthy individuals. qRT-PCR was used to quantify the serum miR-181a and miR-203 expression, and their correlation with clinical features. ROC was used to evaluate the diagnostic value on SLE, while survival curves were compared to show progression-free survival (PFS) between populations with high and low expression.SLE patients had significantly higher serum levels of miR-181a and lower miR-203, both of which were correlated with SLE activity. Expression levels of miR-181a and miR-203 were correlated with erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C reactive protein, anti-dsDNA antibody, complements, and SLEDAI score. Their expression levels had certain values in the differential diagnosis for active SLE (AUC=0.885 and 0.843). PFS in miR-181a high-expression individuals was lower than that in the low-miR-181 group (χ2=7.474, p=0.029). Whilst, miR-203 high-expression SLE patients had higher PFS than low-expression group (χ2=4.367, p=0.037).SLE patients had higher miR-181a and lower miR-203 expression, which thus may have critical implications in disease diagnosis and evaluation.

It was found that the morphology of glands and lamina propria in mucosa changes with the progression of colorectal diseases from normal to low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia to high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia and this microscopy has the ability of direct visualization of these warning symptoms. Furthermore, two morphologic variables were quantified to determine the changes of glands and collagen in lamina propria during the development of colorectal intraepithelial neoplasia. These results suggest that second-harmonic imaging microscopy has the potential in label-freely and effectively distinguishing between normal and precancerous colorectal tissues, and will be helpful for early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal diseases.

Abstract: To search for differences in early immune reconstitution after allogenic or autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).The peripheral blood (PB) from 31 adult patients undergoing allogenic HSCT (allo-HSCT, 15 patients) or autologous HSCT (auto-HSCT, 16 patients) for the treatment of hematological malignancies and from 20 related healthy controls (HC) from December 2011 to August 2014 was used to analyze the kinetic recovery of lymphocyte subsets by means of flow cytometry during 12 months after HSCT. The T cell receptor rearrangement excision circle (TREC) levels among CD3(+) T cells were measured in the patients and HC to evaluate the thymic-dependent T cell reconstitution.The allo- and auto-HSCT recipients did not differ significantly in CD4(+) T cells, CD8 naive T cells, effecter memory T cells (TEM), CD4 central memory T cells (TCM), mid-activated T cells and dendritic cells (DC)during the follow-up (P0.05). But they both differed significantly from HC (P0.05). CD8(+) T cells and NK cells reconstructed rapidly. There was no significant difference in the numbers of B cells between the allo- and auto-HSCT groups from M1 to M3 (P0.05). B cells in both the groups were lower than those in HC (P0.05). The recovery of B cells in auto-HSCT group was faster than in allo-HSCT group at M6 and M12 (P0.05). The frequencies of CD4 naive T cells and later activated T cells in allo-HSCT group were significantly higher than in auto-HSCT group at M6 and M12 (P0.05). The frequencies of CD8 TCM in auto-HSCT group were significantly higher than in allo-HSCT group at M6 and M12 (P0.05). The TREC levels were significantly lower than in both the groups compared with the age-matched HC during the follow-up (P0.05). No significant difference was observed between allo-HSCT and auto-HSCT groups (P0.05).The differences of the nature and the speed of lymphocyte reconstitution observed between the two patents groups were minor. This leads us to conclude that in allografted patients, immune reconstitution and subpopulations of peripheral blood lymphocytes are probably not related to the allogenicity of the graft, but due to the impaired thymus functions and slow differentiation of T lymphocytes in thymus.

Abstract: Currently, nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs) are the major drugs for the antiviral treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB), including lamivudine, adefovir dipivoxil, telbivudine, entecavir, and tenofovir disoproxil. Since many patients need to take NAs orally for a long time to inhibit viral replication, the safety of long-term administration is an important factor for selecting drugs in clinical practice. In recent years, some studies have been focusing on the impact of long-term administration of NAs on glomerular filtration function and renal tubular function in such patients. At the same time, more and more biomarkers for evaluating renal impairment have been used in clinical practice, but the applicability of most biomarkers in CHB patients remains uncertain. This review describes the biomarkers that are currently used or have a potential clinical value and investigates the application of such biomarkers in CHB patients in future.

Abstract: Cassava/peanut intercropping is a popular cultivation method in the south China, with the advantage of apparent yield increase. In order to analyze the effect of cassava/peanut intercropping on physical and chemical properties in peanut rhizosphere soil, the physical and chemical properties were investigated under the biochar application and straw mulching. The result showed that the Ph, organic materials content, available phosphorus content, available potassium content in peanut rhizosphere under the biochar application increased by 7.06%, 94.52%, 17.53%, 25.08% (monoculture peanut) and 8.47%, 89.94%, 17.93%, 22.87% (cassava/peanut intercropping) compared with Ck in the same planting patterns. In addition, the available nitrogen content, organic materials content, available phosphorus content, and available potassium content in peanut rhizosphere under the straw mulching increased by 89.80%, 60.92%, 5.95%, 9.98% (monoculture peanut) and 67.09%, 52.34%, 6.96%, 11.94% (cassava/peanut intercropping) compared with Ck in the same planting patterns. In the same treatment conditions, bulk density in peanut rhizosphere soil decreased and porosity and saturated permeability coefficient increased slightly. But there was no significant difference between the two. At the same time, cassava/peanut intercropping could increase soil nutrients. Therefore, it is beneficial to apply biochar and straw mulching, and the suitable intercropping row spacing is more beneficial to increase soil nutrient contents.

36. Water quality impacts of young green roofs in a tropical city: a case study from Singapore

Abstract: This study examined the effects of two substrates (SOIL and COMMERCIAL) and grass on the green roof runoff quality in Singapore. Ten events were sampled over a 9-month period. Rainfall and green roof runoff from grass and bare experimental configurations were tested for total organic carbon (TOC), nitrogen and phosphorus nutrients (NO3−-N and PO43−-P), cations/anions and trace metals (Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb). All configuration units neutralised acid rainfall and removed metals except Fe despite their proximity to an industrial area. Concentrations decrease over the monitoring period for most water quality variables. The COMMERCIAL (COM) configurations elevated Cl− (3.8–10.8 ppm), SO42− (1.5–32.4 ppm), NO3−-N (7.8–75.6 ppm) and NH4+-N (22.0–53.1 ppm) concentrations in the runoff. Concentrations of NO3−-N (4.5–67.7 ppm) and NH4+-N (14.7–53.0 ppm) remained high at the end of the monitoring period for the COMgrass configuration, even with dilution from monsoon rainfall, making it suitable as an irrigation water source and a fertiliser substitute. The SOIL substrate retained N-nutrients, TOC and trace metals with concentrations comparable or below rainfall inputs. This substrate is suitable for widespread green roof applications in Singapore and other tropical cities. We recommend substrate testing before their approval for use on green roofs and encourage the long-term monitoring of these systems. HIGHLIGHTS All configurations removed trace metals and neutralised acid rainfall despite close proximity to an industrial area.; Substrates low in organic matter content were found to be suitable for widespread implementation in Singapore.; High nutrient concentrations in green roof runoff make them suitable for irrigating urban greenery.;

Abstract: The growth of Ge quantum dots (QDs) using the ion beam sputtering deposition technique has been successfully conducted directly on single-layer graphene supported by SiO2/Si substrate. The results show that the morphology and size of Ge QDs on graphene can be modulated by tuning the Ge coverage. Charge transfer behavior, i.e. doping effect in graphene has been demonstrated at the interface of Ge/graphene. Compared with that of traditional Ge dots grown on Si substrate, the positions of both corresponding photoluminescence (PL) peaks of Ge QDs/graphene hybrid structure undergo a large red-shift, which can probably be attributed to the lack of atomic intermixing and the existence of surface states in this hybrid material. According to first-principles calculations, the Ge growth on the graphene should follow the so-called Volmer-Weber mode instead of the Stranski-Krastanow one which is observed generally in the traditional Ge QDs/Si system. The calculations also suggest that the interaction between Ge and graphene layer can be enhanced with the decrease of the Ge coverage. Our results may supply a prototype for fabricating novel optoelectronic devices based on a QDs/graphene hybrid nanostructure.

Abstract: Semi-conductive silicon carbide (SiC) nanowires were amino-functionalized to achieve better dispersion in poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix. It was found that PVDF based composites with amino-functionalized SiC (f-SiC) nanowires exhibited lower loss tangent than their counterparts with bare SiC nanowires, especially at a filler loading of 13.8 vol%. The loss tangent at 1 kHz of PVDF/f-SiC nanowires (86.2/13.8, v/v) composite is only 0.048, which is nearly one quarter of that of its counterpart with bare SiC nanowires. The nearly one order of magnitude lower AC conductivity at 1 kHz is responsible for the remarkable decrease of the loss tangent, since the interlacing of f-SiC nanowires was avoided via their parallel orientation, facilitated by the enhanced interfacial interaction. In addition to the low loss, the PVDF/f-SiC nanowires (86.2/13.8, v/v) composite exhibited about twofold increase of the dielectric permittivity at 1 kHz, compared to neat PVDF. Moreover, the thermal conductivity of PVDF/f-SiC nanowires (86.2/13.8, v/v) composite was increased to twice that of neat PVDF. The thermally conductive, high dielectric permittivity, and low loss PVDF/f-SiC nanowires composites may find potential applications in capacitors for microelectronics.

Abstract: Over the past 24 years, the AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET) program has provided highly accurate remote-sensing characterization of aerosol optical and physical properties for an increasingly extensive geographic distribution including all continents and many oceanic island and coastal sites. The measurements and retrievals from the AERONET global network have addressed satellite and model validation needs very well, but there have been challenges in making comparisons to similar parameters from in situ surface and airborne measurements. Additionally, with improved spatial and temporal satellite remote sensing of aerosols, there is a need for higher spatial-resolution ground-based remote-sensing networks. An effort to address these needs resulted in a number of field campaign networks called Distributed Regional Aerosol Gridded Observation Networks (DRAGONs) that were designed to provide a database for in situ and remote-sensing comparison and analysis of local to mesoscale variability in aerosol properties. This paper describes the DRAGON deployments that will continue to contribute to the growing body of research related to meso- and microscale aerosol features and processes. The research presented in this special issue illustrates the diversity of topics that has resulted from the application of data from these networks.

Abstract: Air pollution is a growing problem arising from domestic heating, high density of vehicle traffic, electricity production, and expanding commercial and industrial activities, all increasing in parallel with urban population. Monitoring and forecasting of air quality parameters are important due to health impact. One widely available metric of aerosol abundance is the aerosol optical depth (AOD). The AOD is the integrated light extinction coefficient over a vertical atmospheric column of unit cross section, which represents the extent to which the aerosols in that vertical profile prevent the transmission of light by absorption or scattering. Seasonal aerosol optical depth (AOD) values at 550 nm derived from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor onboard NASA’s Terra satellites, for the 10 years period of 2000 - 2010 were used to test 7 different spatial interpolation methods in the present study. The accuracy of estimations was assessed through visual analysis as well as independent validation based on basic statistics, such as root mean square error (RMSE) and correlation coefficient. Based on the RMSE and R values of predictions made using measured values from 2000 to 2010, Radial Basis Functions (RBFs) yielded the best results for spring, summer and winter and ordinary kriging yielded the best results for fall.

Abstract: Abstract The purpose of this study was to examine the neurorestorative effect of delayed 9 cis retinoic acid (9cRA) treatment for stroke. Adult male rats received a 90-min right distal middle cerebral artery occlusion (dMCAo). Animals were separated into two groups with similar infarction sizes, based on magnetic resonance imaging on day 2 after dMCAo. 9cRA or vehicle was given via an intranasal route daily starting from day 3. Stroke rats receiving 9cRA post-treatment showed an increase in brain 9cRA levels and greater recovery in motor function. 9cRA enhanced the proliferation of bromodeoxyuridine (+) cells in the subventricular zone (SVZ) and lesioned cortex in the stroke brain. Using subventricular neurosphere and matrigel cultures, we demonstrated that proliferation and migration of SVZ neuroprogenitor cells were enhanced by 9cRA. Our data support a delayed and non-invasive drug therapy for stroke. Intranasal 9cRA can facilitate the functional recovery and endogenous repair in the ischemic brain.

Abstract: Obtaining continuous aerosol-optical-depth (AOD) measurements is a difficult task due to the cloud-cover problem. With the main motivation of overcoming this problem, an AOD-predicting model is proposed. In this study, the optical properties of aerosols in Penang, Malaysia were analyzed for four monsoonal seasons (northeast monsoon, pre-monsoon, southwest monsoon, and post-monsoon) based on data from the AErosol RObotic NETwork (AERONET) from February 2012 to November 2013. The aerosol distribution patterns in Penang for each monsoonal period were quantitatively identified according to the scattering plots of the Ångström exponent against the AOD. A new empirical algorithm was proposed to predict the AOD data. Ground-based measurements (i.e., visibility and air pollutant index) were used in the model as predictor data to retrieve the missing AOD data from AERONET due to frequent cloud formation in the equatorial region. The model coefficients were determined through multiple regression analysis using selected data set from in situ data. The calibrated model coefficients have a coefficient of determination, R2, of 0.72. The predicted AOD of the model was generated based on these calibrated coefficients and compared against the measured data through standard statistical tests, yielding a R2 of 0.68 as validation accuracy. The error in weighted mean absolute percentage error (wMAPE) was less than 0.40% compared with the real data. The results revealed that the proposed model efficiently predicted the AOD data. Performance of our model was compared against selected LIDAR data to yield good correspondence. The predicted AOD can enhance measured short- and long-term AOD and provide supplementary information for climatological studies and monitoring aerosol variation.

Abstract: Direct geo-referencing system uses the technology of remote sensing to quickly grasp images, GPS tracks, and camera position. These data allows the construction of large volumes of images with geographic coordinates. So that users can be measured directly on the images. In order to properly calculate positioning, all the sensor signals must be synchronized. Traditional aerial photography use Position and Orientation System (POS) to integrate image, coordinates and camera position. However, it is very expensive. And users could not use the result immediately because the position information does not embed into image. To considerations of economy and efficiency, this study aims to develop a direct geo-referencing system based on open source software and hardware platform. After using Arduino microcontroller board to integrate the signals, we then can calculate positioning with open source software OpenCV. In the end, we use open source panorama browser, panini, and integrate all these to open source GIS software, Quantum GIS. A wholesome collection of data – a data processing system could be constructed.

Abstract: We report on the charged-particle multiplicity dependence of net-proton cumulant ratios up to sixth order from s=200 GeV p+p collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The measured ratios C4/C2, C5/C1, and C6/C2 decrease with increased charged-particle multiplicity and rapidity acceptance. Neither the Skellam baselines nor PYTHIA8 calculations account for the observed multiplicity dependence. In addition, the ratios C5/C1 and C6/C2 approach negative values in the highest-multiplicity events, which implies that thermalized QCD matter may be formed in p+p collisions.

45. Spin-wave dispersion of nanostructured magnonic crystals with periodic defects

Abstract: The spin-wave dispersions in nanostructured magnonic crystals with periodic defects have been mapped by Brillouin light scattering. The otherwise perfect crystals are one-dimensional arrays of alternating 460nm-wide Ni80Fe20 stripes and 40nm-wide air gaps, where one in ten Ni80Fe20 stripes is a defect of width other than 460 nm. Experimentally, the defects are manifested as additional Brillouin peaks, lying within the first and second bandgaps of the perfect crystal, whose frequencies decrease with increasing defect stripe width. Finite-element calculations, based on a supercell comprising one defect and nine perfect Py stripes, show that the defect modes are localized about the defects, with the localization exhibiting an approximate U-shaped dependence on defect size. Calculations also reveal extra magnon branches and the opening of mini-bandgaps, within the allowed bands of the perfect crystal, arising from Bragg reflections at the boundaries of the shorter supercell Brillouin zone. Simulated magnetization profiles of the band-edge modes of the major and mini-bandgaps reveal their different symmetries and localization properties. The findings could find application in microwave magnonic devices like single-frequency passband spin-wave filters.

Abstract: We report the first measurements of cumulants, up to 4th order, of deuteron number distributions and proton-deuteron correlations in Au+Au collisions recorded by the STAR experiment in phase-I of Beam Energy Scan (BES) program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Deuteron cumulants, their ratios, and proton-deuteron mixed cumulants are presented for different collision centralities covering a range of center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sNN=7.7 to 200 GeV. It is found that the cumulant ratios at lower collision energies favor a canonical ensemble over a grand canonical ensemble in thermal models. An anti-correlation between proton and deuteron multiplicity is observed across all collision energies and centralities, consistent with the expectation from global baryon number conservation. The UrQMD model coupled with a phase-space coalescence mechanism qualitatively reproduces the collision-energy dependence of cumulant ratios and proton-deuteron correlations.

Abstract: The chiral magnetic effect (CME) is a phenomenon that arises from the QCD anomaly in the presence of an external magnetic field. The experimental search for its evidence has been one of the key goals of the physics program of the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider. The STAR Collaboration has previously presented the results of a blind analysis of isobar collisions (_{44}^{96}Ru+_{44}^{96}Ru, _{40}^{96}Zr+_{40}^{96}Zr) in the search for the CME. The isobar ratio (Y) of CME-sensitive observable, charge separation scaled by elliptic anisotropy, is close to but systematically larger than the inverse multiplicity ratio, the naive background baseline. This indicates the potential existence of a CME signal and the presence of remaining nonflow background due to two- and three-particle correlations, which are different between the isobars. In this postblind analysis, we estimate the contributions from those nonflow correlations as a background baseline to Y, utilizing the isobar data as well as Heavy Ion Jet Interaction Generator simulations. This baseline is found consistent with the isobar ratio measurement, and an upper limit of 10% at 95% confidence level is extracted for the CME fraction in the charge separation measurement in isobar collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV.

Abstract: The differential cross section for Z0 production, measured as a function of the boson's transverse momentum (pT), provides important constraints on the evolution of the transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs). The transverse single spin asymmetry (TSSA) of the Z0 is sensitive to one of the polarized TMDs, the Sivers function, which is predicted to have the opposite sign in p+p →W/Z+X from that which enters in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. In this Letter, the STAR Collaboration reports the first measurement of the Z0/γ⁎ differential cross section as a function of its pT in p+p collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 510 GeV, together with the Z0/γ⁎ total cross section. We also report the measurement of Z0/γ⁎ TSSA in transversely polarized p+p collisions at 510 GeV.

Abstract: We report results on an elastic cross section measurement in proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy s=510 GeV, obtained with the Roman Pot setup of the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). The elastic differential cross section is measured in the four-momentum transfer squared range 0.23≤−t≤0.67 GeV2. This is the only measurement of the proton-proton elastic cross section in this t range for collision energies above the Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR) and below the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) colliders. We find that a constant slope B does not fit the data in the aforementioned t range, and we obtain a much better fit using a second-order polynomial for B(t). This is the first measurement below the LHC energies for which the non-constant behavior B(t) is observed. The t dependence of B is also determined using six subintervals of t in the STAR measured t range, and is in good agreement with the phenomenological models. The measured elastic differential cross section dσ/dt agrees well with the results obtained at s=540 GeV for proton–antiproton collisions by the UA4 experiment. We also determine that the integrated elastic cross section within the STAR t-range is σelfid=462.1±0.9(stat.)±1.1(syst.)±11.6(scale) μb.
