Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as one of non-degradable wastes has become a huge threat to the environment and human health. Chemical Recycle of PET is a sustainable way to release 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (BDC) the monomer of PET as common used organic linker for synthesis of functional Metal–organic-frameworks (PET-derived MOFs) such as UiO-66, MIL-101, etc. This sustainable and cost-effective “Waste-to-MOFs” model is of great significant to be intensively investigated in the past years. Attributes of substantial porosity, specific surface area, exposed metal centers, uniform structure, and flexible morphology render PET-derived MOFs are well-suited for applications in adsorption, energy storage, catalysis, among others. Herein, in the present work, we have summarized recent advances in synthesis of PET-derived MOFs using ex-situ and in-situ methods for typical applications of adsorption, catalysis and energy storage. Despite those improvements in synthesis methods and potential applications, challenges still remain in development of green and economical routes to fully utilize waste PET for massive manufacture of valuable MOF materials and chemicals. This review provides insights into the conversion of non-degradable PET waste to value-added MOF materials, and further suggests promising perspectives to develop the sustainable “Waste-to-MOFs” model in addressing environmental pollution and energy crises.

Abstract The Walker circulation is projected to slow down in response to greenhouse gas warming. However, detecting the impact of human activities on changes in the Walker circulation is challenging due to the significant influence of internal variability. Here, based on ensembles of multiple climate models from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6), we show evidence that the emergence of the human-induced weakening of Walker circulation tends to occur earlier in the middle-upper troposphere than at the surface. This earlier emergence is attributed to a more pronounced initial weakening response of the middle-upper tropospheric Walker circulation to atmospheric CO2 radiative forcing. We further reveal that the emergence time of a weaker Walker circulation varies across models. This intermodel spread is governed by an ocean thermostat that operates by modulating the zonal sea surface temperature gradient over the tropical Indo-Pacific region. Our findings address the key question of whether and how to detect human-induced large-scale atmospheric circulation changes and provide valuable insights for assessing the associated risks.

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) may soon become the leading cause of end-stage liver disease worldwide with limited treatment options. Liver fibrosis, which is driven by chronic inflammation and hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation, critically determines morbidity and mortality in patients with NASH. Pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2) is involved in immune activation and inflammatory liver diseases; however, its role and therapeutic potential in NASH-related fibrosis remain largely unexplored. Bioinformatics screening and analysis of human and murine NASH livers indicated that PKM2 was upregulated in nonparenchymal cells (NPCs), especially macrophages, in the livers of patients with fibrotic NASH. Macrophage-specific PKM2 knockout (PKM2FL/FLLysM-Cre) significantly ameliorated hepatic inflammation and fibrosis severity in three distinct NASH models induced by a methionine- and choline-deficient (MCD) diet, a high-fat high-cholesterol (HFHC) diet, and a western diet plus weekly carbon tetrachloride injection (WD/CCl4). Single-cell transcriptomic analysis indicated that deletion of PKM2 in macrophages reduced profibrotic Ly6Chigh macrophage infiltration. Mechanistically, PKM2-dependent glycolysis promoted NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) activation in proinflammatory macrophages, which induced HSC activation and fibrogenesis. A pharmacological PKM2 agonist efficiently attenuated the profibrotic crosstalk between macrophages and HSCs in vitro and in vivo. Translationally, ablation of PKM2 in NPCs by cholesterol-conjugated heteroduplex oligonucleotides, a novel oligonucleotide drug that preferentially accumulates in the liver, dose-dependently reversed NASH-related fibrosis without causing observable hepatotoxicity. The present study highlights the pivotal role of macrophage PKM2 in advancing NASH fibrogenesis. Thus, therapeutic modulation of PKM2 in a macrophage-specific or liver-specific manner may serve as a novel strategy to combat NASH-related fibrosis.

Abstract Background Proteins harboring the SPX domain are crucial for the regulation of phosphate (Pi) homeostasis in plants. This study aimed to identify and analyze the entire SPX gene family within the cucumber genome. Results The cucumber genome encompassed 16 SPX domain-containing genes, which were distributed across six chromosomes and categorized into four distinct subfamilies: SPX, SPX-MFS, SPX-EXS and SPX-RING, based on their structure characteristics. Additionally, gene duplications and synteny analysis were conducted for CsSPXs, revealing that their promoter regions were enriched with a variety of hormone-responsive, biotic/abiotic stress and typical P1BS-related elements. Tissue expression profiling of CsSPX genes revealed that certain members were specifically expressed in particular organs, suggesting essential roles in cucumber growth and development. Under low Pi stress, CsSPX1 and CsSPX2 exhibited a particularly strong response to Pi starvation. It was observed that the cucumber cultivar Xintaimici displayed greater tolerance to low Pi compared to black-spined cucumber under low Pi stress conditions. Protein interaction networks for the 16 CsSPX proteins were predicted, and yeast two-hybrid assay revealed that CsPHR1 interacted with CsSPX2, CsSPX3, CsSPX4 and CsSPX5, implying their involvement in the Pi signaling pathway in conjunction with CsPHR1. Conclusion This research lays the foundation for further exploration of the function of the CsSPX genes in response to low Pi stress and for elucidating the underlying mechanism.

Abstract Background Nematodes are the most abundant and diverse metazoans on Earth, and are known to significantly affect ecosystem functioning. A better understanding of their biology and ecology, including potential adaptations to diverse habitats and lifestyles, is key to understanding their response to global change scenarios. Mitochondrial genomes offer high species level characterization, low cost of sequencing, and an ease of data handling that can provide insights into nematode evolutionary pressures. Results Generally, nematode mitochondrial genomes exhibited similar structural characteristics (e.g., gene size and GC content), but displayed remarkable variability around these general patterns. Compositional strand biases showed strong codon position specific G skews and relationships with nematode life traits (especially parasitic feeding habits) equal to or greater than with predicted phylogeny. On average, nematode mitochondrial genomes showed low non-synonymous substitution rates, but also high clade specific deviations from these means. Despite the presence of significant mutational saturation, non-synonymous (dN) and synonymous (dS) substitution rates could still be significantly explained by feeding habit and/or habitat. Low ratios of dN:dS rates, particularly associated with the parasitic lifestyles, suggested the presence of strong purifying selection. Conclusions Nematode mitochondrial genomes demonstrated a capacity to accumulate diversity in composition, structure, and content while still maintaining functional genes. Moreover, they demonstrated a capacity for rapid evolutionary change pointing to a potential interaction between multi-level selection pressures and rapid evolution. In conclusion, this study helps establish a background for our understanding of the potential evolutionary pressures shaping nematode mitochondrial genomes, while outlining likely routes of future inquiry.

ObjectiveIn China, lung cancer ranks first in both incidence and mortality among all malignant tumors. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) constitutes the vast majority of cases, accounting for 80% to 85% of cases. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), either as monotherapies or combined with other treatments, have become the standard first-line therapy for NSCLC patients. This study aimed to establish a nomogram model for NSCLC patients receiving immunotherapy incorporating demographic information, clinical characteristics, and laboratory indicators.MethodsFrom January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2022, a prospective longitudinal cohort study involving 1321 patients with NSCLC undergoing immunotherapy was conducted at Chongqing University Cancer Hospital. Clinical and pathological characteristics, as well as follow-up data, were collected and analyzed. To explore prognostic factors affecting overall survival (OS), a Cox regression model was used to test the significance of various variables. Independent prognostic indicators were identified through multivariate analysis and then used to construct a nomogram prediction model. To validate the accuracy and practicality of this model, the concordance index (C-index), area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to assess the predictive performance of the nomogram.ResultIn the final model, 11 variables from the training cohort were identified as independent risk factors for patients with NSCLC: age, KPS score, BMI, diabetes, targeted therapy, Hb, WBC, LDH, CRP, PLR, and LMR. The C-index for OS in the training cohort was 0.717 (95% CI, 0.689–0.745) and 0.704 (95% CI, 0.660–0.750) in the validation cohort. Calibration curves for survival probability showed good concordance between the nomogram predictions and actual observations. The AUCs for 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year OS in the training cohort were 0.724, 0.764, and 0.79, respectively, and 0.725, 0.736, and 0.818 in the validation cohort. DCA demonstrated that the nomogram model had a greater overall net benefit.ConclusionA prognostic model for OS in NSCLC patients receiving immunotherapy was established, providing a simple and reliable tool for predicting patient survival (https://icisnsclc.shinyapps.io/DynNomapp/). This model offers valuable guidance for clinicians in making treatment decisions and recommendations.

PurposeAimed to assess the impact of wearable device-based aerobic exercise on the physical and mental well-being of women with breast cancer (BC) undergoing chemotherapy.MethodsForty adult women with BC who underwent anthracycline-based chemotherapy were randomly allocated to the exercise group (n = 21) or the control group (n = 19). Both groups received standard health education and oncology care. In addition, the exercise group wore wearable devices to engage in moderate to high-intensity (50–90% HRmax) aerobic exercise during chemotherapy, while the control group did not carry out exercise intervention. Health-related physical fitness level, physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE), anxiety and depression scores, sleep quality, cancer-related fatigue, and overall quality of life (QoL), were assessed both before (prior to the first chemotherapy session) and after (prior to the fifth chemotherapy session) the exercise intervention. Abstract Introduction The replacement intervals for infusion sets may differ among healthcare institutions, which may have an impact on the occurrence of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI). Nevertheless, there exists a limited amount of high-quality evidence available to assist clinicians in determining the most suitable replacement intervals for infusion sets. Therefore, the objective of this trial is to compare the efficacy of 24-h and 96-h replacement intervals for infusion sets on CLABSI among critically ill adults who have central venous access devices. Methods This is a multicenter, parallel-group randomized controlled trial that will investigate the effect of infusion set replacement intervals on CLABSI in adult patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs). The study will enroll 1240 participants who meet the inclusion criteria, which includes being 18 years or older, expected to stay in the ICU for longer than 96 h, and in need of central venous access. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a control group receiving a 96-h replacement interval or a treatment group receiving a 24-h replacement interval. Planned Outcome The primary outcome of this trial is the rate of CLABSI within 28 days after randomization. Conclusion This is the first randomized controlled trial to investigate the effects of infusion set replacement at 24-h and 96-h intervals on CLABSI in ICU patients. Abstract Background We designed and synthesized a novel bisphosphonate radiopharmaceutical (68 Ga- or 177Lu-labeled DOTA-ibandronate [68 Ga/177Lu-DOTA-IBA]) for the targeted diagnosis and treatment of bone metastases. The biodistribution and internal dosimetry of a single therapeutic dose of 177Lu-DOTA-IBA were evaluated using a series of single-photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) images and blood samples. Five patients with multiple bone metastases were included in this prospective study. After receiving 1110 MBq 177Lu-DOTA-IBA, patients underwent whole-body planar, SPECT/CT imaging and venous blood sampling over 7 days. Dosimetric evaluation was performed for the main organs and tumor lesions. Safety was assessed using blood biomarkers. Results 177Lu-DOTA-IBA showed fast uptake, high retention in bone lesions, and rapid clearance from the bloodstream in all patients. In this cohort, the average absorbed doses (ADs) in the bone tumor lesions, kidneys, liver, spleen, red marrow, bladder-wall, and osteogenic cells were 5.740, 0.114, 0.095, 0.121, 0.095, and 0.333 Gy/GBq, respectively. Although no patient reached the predetermined dose thresholds, the red marrow will be the dose-limiting organ. There were no adverse reactions recorded after the administration of 1110 MBq 177Lu-DOTA-IBA. Conclusion Dosimetric results show that the ADs for critical organs and total body are within the safety limit and with high bone retention. It is a promising radiopharmaceutical alternative for the targeted treatment of bone metastases, controlling its progression, and improving the survival and quality of life of patients with advanced bone metastasis.

Red phosphorus has been well-recognized as promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) due to its extremely high theoretical capacity and low cost. However, the huge volume change and poor electric conductivity severely limit its further practical application. Herein, the nanoscale ultrafine red phosphorus has been successfully confined in a three-dimensional pitch-based porous carbon skeleton composed of well-interconnected carbon nanosheets through the vaporization-condensation method. Except for the traditional requirement of high electric conductivity and stable mechanical stability, the micropores and small mesopores in the porous carbon matrix centered at 1 to 3 nm and the abundant amount of oxygen-containing functional groups are also beneficial for the high loading and dispersion of red phosphorus. As anode for LIBs, the composite exhibits high reversible discharge capacities of 968 mAh g−1, excellent rate capabilities of 593 mAh g−1 at 2 A g−1, and long cycle performance of 557 mAh g−1 at 2 A g−1. More impressively, as the anode for PIBs, the composite presents a high reversible capacity of 661 mAh g−1 and a stable capacity of 312 mAh g−1 at 0.5 A g−1 for 500 cycles with a capacity retention up to 84.3%. This work not only sheds light on the structure design of carbon hosts with specific pore structure but also open an avenue for high value-added utilization of coal tar pitch.

An important factor for investigating climate change in the Sanjiangyuan is the evolution of the spatio-temporal pattern of lakes in this region. The present study used the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform to extract lakes from 2000 to 2020. The present approach created a lake distribution dataset yearly and analyzed spatial and temporal patterns over 20 years. The analysis of lakes focused on the reaction of the Sanjiangyuan Lakes area to changes in climate, glaciers, and permafrost. The findings indicated that the Sanjiangyuan region contains 143 lakes, the majority of which are predominantly small, measuring 1–10 km2. The small lakes account for 60.14 % of the total and are primarily located in the source regions of the Yangtze River and Yellow River. The findings demonstrated that the Sanjiangyuan lakes experienced a significant expansion over the past two decades, particularly from 2011 to 2020. These lakes are divided into expanded, atrophic, and stable categories. Expanded lakes showed significant inter-annual trends in expansion, while atrophic lakes showed smaller fluctuations. The area of stable lakes experienced a consistent decline after 2010, despite a consistent expansion tendency from 2001 to 2010. Moreover, the results indicated that alterations in the size of glaciers and ice reserves in the Sanjiangyuan region have had the greatest influence on the fluctuation in lake area. Among the factors that affect the climate, temperature had the most significant effect on the change in lake area, followed by precipitation.

Trichoderma spp. is known for its ability to enhance plant growth and suppress disease, but the mechanisms for its interaction with host plants and pathogens remain unclear. This study investigated the transcriptomics and metabolomics of peanut plants (Arachis hypogaea L.) inoculated with Trichoderma harzianum QT20045, in the absence and presence of the stem rot pathogen Sclerotium rolfsii JN3011. Under the condition without pathogen stress, the peanut seedlings inoculated with QT20045 showed improved root length and plant weight, increased indole acetic acid (IAA) production, and reduced ethylene level, with more active 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate acid (ACC) synthase (ACS) and ACC oxidase (ACO), compared with the non-inoculated control. Under the pathogen stress, the biocontrol efficacy of QT20045 against S. rolfsii was 78.51%, with a similar effect on plant growth, and IAA and ethylene metabolisms to the condition with no biotic stress. Transcriptomic analysis of peanut root revealed that Trichoderma inoculation upregulated the expression of certain genes in the IAA family but downregulated the genes in the ACO family (AhACO1 and AhACO) and ACS family (AhACS3 and AhACS1) consistently in the absence and presence of pathogens. During pathogen stress, QT20045 inoculation leads to the downregulation of the genes in the pectinesterase family to keep the host plant’s cell wall stable, along with upregulation of the AhSUMM2 gene to activate plant defense responses. In vitro antagonistic test confirmed that QT20045 suppressed S. rolfsii growth through mechanisms of mycelial entanglement, papillary protrusions, and decomposition. Our findings highlight that Trichoderma inoculation is a promising tool for sustainable agriculture, offering multiple benefits from pathogen control to enhanced plant growth and soil health.

In this study, we investigated the volatile flavor compounds and sensory perceptions of Yanbian-style sauced beef prepared from raw meats subjected to different treatments (hot fresh, chilled, and frozen beef). The results indicated that the treatment of raw beef significantly impacted the quality and flavor of sauced beef. Sauced chilled beef (CRSB) exhibited the highest content of fatty acids and total amino acids. A total of 48 volatile compounds were identified. Moreover, a relative odor activity value analysis identified hexanal, nonanal, heptanal, 1-octen-3-ol, and 2,3-octanedione as the characteristic flavor compounds in Yanbian-style sauced beef. The sensory evaluation demonstrated that CRSB was the most palatable and flavorful. Additionally, correlation loading plot analysis indicated strong correlations between sensory evaluation, fatty acids, amino acids, and volatile flavor compounds. These results suggest that chilled beef meat is the best raw material for the production of Yanbian-style sauced beef.

ABSTRACT: Avian leukosis virus Subgroup J (ALV-J) exhibits high morbidity and pathogenicity, affecting approximately 20% of poultry farms. It induces neoplastic diseases and immunosuppression. Phorbol-12-myristate-13-acetate-induced protein 1 (PMAIP1), a proapoptotic mitochondrial protein in the B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) family, plays a role in apoptosis in cancer cells. However, the connection between the PMAIP1 gene and ALV-J pathogenicity remains unexplored. This study investigates the potential impact of the PMAIP1 gene on ALV-J replication and its regulatory mechanisms. Initially, we examined PMAIP1 expression using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, we manipulated PMAIP1 expression in chicken fibroblast cells (DF-1) and assessed its effects on ALV-J infection through qRT-PCR, immunofluorescence assay (IFA), and western blotting (WB). Our findings reveal a significant down-regulation of PMAIP1 in the spleen, lung, and kidney, coupled with an up-regulation in the bursa and liver of ALV-J infected chickens compared to uninfected ones. Additionally, DF-1 cells infected with ALV-J displayed a notable up-regulation of PMAIP1 at 6, 12, 24, 48, 74, and 108 h. Over-expression of PMAIP1 enhanced ALV-J replication, interferon expression, and proinflammatory factors. Conversely, interference led to contrasting results. Furthermore, we observed that PMAIP1 promotes virus replication by modulating mitochondrial function. In conclusion, the PMAIP1 gene facilitates virus replication by regulating mitochondrial function, thereby enriching our understanding of mitochondria-related genes and their involvement in ALV-J infection, offering valuable insights for avian leukosis disease resistance strategies.

K subgroup of Avian leukemia virus (ALV-K), as the latest reported exogenous ALV subgroup, can cause severe immunosuppression and tumorigenesis in infected chickens and bring serious threats to the poultry. Culling the positive chickens from breeder flocks is the most effective measurement for controling its infection at present. To setup a specific and rapid method for detecting ALV-K, an immunochromatographic strip (ICS) based on colloidal gold nanoparticles and double monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) immunochemical reaction was successfully developed. The solution containing colloidal gold particles (colloidal 20 nm) was prepared by sodium citrate reduction, and the ascites MAbs against ALV-K were purified and identified. The antibody concentration of the colloidal gold-MAb complex reaction system was 9.6 μg/mL, and the optimum pH was 7.5. The optimum coating concentrations of the captured antibody and quality control antibody on the NC membrane were 1.2 mg/mL and 0.6 mg/mL, respectively. The results showed that the prepared ICS could specifically detect ALV-K and had no cross reaction with exogenous ALV-A/B/J strains. Its sensitivity was 64 TCID50/mL against ALV-K and 0.25 μg/mL against ALV-K gp85 protein. The ICS stored at 4 °C for 180 d, at 25 °C for 45 d, and at 37 °C for 15 d could stably detect ALV-K in the samples. In comparision detection of 128 clinical samples, the coincidence rates in cloacal swab samples, serum samples, egg albumen samples and tissue homogenate samples between the ICS and the commercial ALV p27 antigen ELISA kit were 100 %, 100 %, 96.7 % and 96.9 %, respectively; moreover, the prepared ICS in operations was simpler and more convenient. This study supplies a new specific and rapid method for detecting ALV-K in clinics. This is the first report on the application of nano-colloidal gold ICS in ALV-K differential detection.

Abstract Introduction With the global aging population on the rise, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) poses a growing healthcare burden. Prior research hints at immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs) potentially elevating AMD risk via diverse mechanisms. However, causality remains disputed as a result of confounding factors. Hence, our Mendelian randomization (MR) study aims to untangle this link, mitigating confounding effects to explore the IMID–AMD causal relationship. This study aims to investigate the causal relationship between IMIDs and AMD, providing new strategies for the prevention and treatment of AMD in clinical practice. Methods This study was registered with PROSPERO, CRD42023469815. We obtained data on IMIDs and AMD from Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) summary statistics and the FinnGen consortium. Rigorous selection steps were applied to screen for eligible instrumental single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). We conducted univariate Mendelian randomization, inverse variance-weighted (IVW), weighted median, Mendelian randomization-Egger (MR-Egger), and multivariate Mendelian randomization (MVMR) analyses. Various sensitivity analysis methods were employed to assess pleiotropy and heterogeneity. The aim was to explore the causal relationships between IMIDs and AMD. Results The MR analysis revealed that Crohn’s disease (CD) (IVW: odd ratios (OR) 1.05, 95% CI (confidence interval) 1.01–1.10, p = 0.007), rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (IVW: OR 1.09, 95% CI 1.04–1.15, p = 0.0001), and type 1 diabetes (T1D) (IVW: OR 1.05, 95% CI 1.02–1.09, p = 0.001) were correlated with an elevated risk of AMD, while multiple sclerosis (MS) (IVW: OR 2.78E−18, 95% CI 2.23E−31 to 3.48E−05, p = 0.008) appeared to be protective against AMD. These findings were supported by an array of MR analysis methodologies and the MVMR approach. Conclusion Our study results, based on MR, provide genetic evidence indicating a causal relationship between specific IMIDs and AMD. CD, RA, and T1D are factors increasing the risk of AMD, while MS may have a protective effect.

Abstract The compressive strength (CS) of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) hinges upon the distinct properties, quantities, and types of its constituent materials. To empirically decipher this intricate relationship, employing machine learning (ML) algorithms becomes indispensable. Among these, the decision tree (DT) stands out, adept at constructing a predictive model aligned with experimental datasets. Notably, these models demonstrate commendable accuracy, effectively paralleling experimental findings as a testament to DT’s efficacy in UHPC prediction based on input parameters. To elevate predictive precision, this study integrates two meta-heuristic algorithms: the Sea-horse Optimizer (SHO) and the Crystal Structure Algorithm (CryStAl). This integration spawns three hybrid models: DTSH, DTCS, and DT. Particularly, the DTSH model shines with remarkable R 2 values, registering an impressive 0.997, coupled with an optimal RMSE of 1.746 during the training phase. This underlines the model’s unmatched predictive and generalization capabilities, setting it apart from other models cultivated in this research. In essence, the fusion of empirical experimentation, advanced ML via DT, and the strategic infusion of SHO and CryStAl, culminates in the ascension of predictive prowess within the realm of UHPC compressive strength projection.

Abstract Nitrate (NO3 ‒) pollution poses significant threats to water quality and global nitrogen cycles. Alkaline electrocatalytic NO3 ‒ reduction reaction (NO3RR) emerges as an attractive route for enabling NO3 ‒ removal and sustainable ammonia (NH3) synthesis. However, it suffers from insufficient proton (H+) supply in high pH conditions, restricting NO3 ‒-to-NH3 activity. Herein, we propose a halogen-mediated H+ feeding strategy to enhance the alkaline NO3RR performance. Our platform achieves near-100% NH3 Faradaic efficiency (pH = 14) with a current density of 2 A cm–2 and enables an over 99% NO3 –-to-NH3 conversion efficiency. We also convert NO3 ‒ to high-purity NH4Cl with near-unity efficiency, suggesting a practical approach to valorizing pollutants into valuable ammonia products. Theoretical simulations and in situ experiments reveal that Cl-coordination endows a shifted d-band center of Pd atoms to construct local H+-abundant environments, through arousing dangling O-H water dissociation and fast *H desorption, for *NO intermediate hydrogenation and finally effective NO3 ‒-to-NH3 conversion.

In this paper, the parabolic equation with oblique derivative boundary condition is considered. The long time behavior of the solution is derived by selecting the appropriate auxiliary functions and making priori estimates. Through blow up analysis, time-dependent gradient estimates are obtained, followed by second-order derivative estimates. Then, the convergence of smooth solution to parabolic equations with the oblique derivative boundary condition is obtained using standard theory.

Reliable and continuous information on cropping intensity is crucial for assessing cropland utilization and formulating policies regarding cropland protection and management. However, there is still a lack of high-resolution cropping intensity maps for recent years, particularly in fragmented agricultural regions. In this study, we combined Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 imagery to generate cropping intensity maps from 2019 to 2023 at a 10 m resolution for Shaanxi Province, China. First, the satellite imagery was harmonized to construct 10-day composite enhanced vegetation index (EVI) time series. Then, the cropping intensity was determined by counting the number of valid EVI peaks within a year. Assessment based on 578 sample points showed a high level of accuracy, with overall accuracy and Kappa coefficient values exceeding 0.96 and 0.93, respectively. We further analyzed the spatiotemporal patterns of cropping intensity and generated a map of abandoned cropland in Shaanxi. The results indicated that cropland in Shaanxi Province was mainly utilized for single-cropping (52.9% of area), followed by double-cropping (35.2%), with non-cropping accounting for 11.9%. Cropping intensity tended to be lower in the north and higher in the south. Temporally, the average cropping intensity of Shaanxi increased from 1.1 to over 1.3 from 2019 to 2023. Despite this upward trend, large areas of cropland were abandoned in northern Shaanxi. These results demonstrate the potential of utilizing Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 imagery to identify cropping intensity dynamics in fragmented agricultural regions and to guide more efficient cropland management.

Fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda, has posed a serious threat to global food security since its discovery in Africa in 2016. Intercropping peanuts with maize is a very common cultivation practice, which can result in a high possibility of peanut damage by FAW. Our study investigated the feeding behavior, plant part preferences, and damage symptoms of FAW larvae on peanuts throughout the larval period, considering changes in population densities and the passage of time over the number of investigations. The results indicated that FAW larvae frequently inhabited peanut leaves, particularly the undersides of the leaves. Larvae moved from the leaves to the soil in the seedling pot to complete development. Furthermore, FAW larvae tended to feed on peanut leaves rather than stems regardless of population densities. Based on the damage symptoms, the feeding preferences of FAW larvae tended to be heart leaves, followed by mature leaves and stems. The most frequent damage symptoms caused by FAW to peanuts were “window panes”, followed by “leafless”. This study provides a reference for the integrated management of FAW in peanut fields.

As an important member of innate immunity, macrophages show remarkable plasticity and heterogeneity, and play an important role in immune regulation, tissue development, homeostasis of the internal environment and injury repair. However, the excessive activation of macrophages is closely related to the occurrence and development of many diseases. The prenylated flavonoid structure is one of the characteristic structures isolated from Sophora flavescens, with anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-allergy and other effects. In this study, the effects of (2R)-3β,7,4′-trihydroxy-5-methoxy-8-prenylflavanone (TMP), a prenylated dihydroflavonol, on the polarization and phagocytosis of macrophages were systematically studied. In LPS-induced M1-type macrophages, TMP dose-dependently inhibited the expression of COX-2, iNOS and the secretion of NO, IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-18, showing an inhibitory effect on M1 polarization. Further experiments revealed that it was related to the inhibition of TLR4-related AKT/mTOR, MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways; in IL-4-induced M2-type macrophages, TMP down-regulated the expression of M2-related Arg1, IL-10, TGF-β, CD206 and CD163, as well as the phosphorylation levels of AKT1 and STAT6. For macrophages in a physiological state, it was very important for cells to return from a stress state to a phenotypic stability in the M0 state. These results indicated that TMP negatively regulated the M1/M2 polarization of macrophages, and made them tend to M0 homeostasis, which might provide new theoretical and data support for explaining the anti-inflammatory immunoregulatory activity of Sophora flavescens.

Tailoring the morphologies and optical properties of the 2D and hierarchical nanostructures self-assembled by the π-conjugated molecules is both interesting and challenging. Herein, a series of 2D ribbon-like nanostructures with single or multiple H-aggregated perylene bisimides (PBI) monolayer and hierarchical nanostructures (including straw-like, dumbbell-shaped, and rod-like nanostructures) are fabricated by solution self-assembly of three chiral alanine-decorated PBI. The influence of the solvent’s dissolving capacity, the chirality of alanine, and the preparation methods on the morphologies and optical properties of the nanostructures were extensively studied. It was observed that the hierarchical nanostructures are formed by the reorganization of the 2D ribbon-like nanostructures. The size of the 2D ribbon-like nanostructures and the amount of the hierarchical nanostructures increase with the decrease in the solvent’s dissolving capacity. The small chiral alanine moiety is unable to induce chirality in the nanostructures, owing to its low steric hindrance and the dominant strong π-π stacking interaction of the PBI skeleton. A weaker π-π stacking interaction and better H-aggregated arrangement of the PBI skeleton could reduce the low-wavelength fluorescence intensity. The process of heating, cooling, and aging promotes the formation of H-aggregation in the PBI skeleton. The region of spectral overlap of the PBI solutions increases with the decrease in the dissolving capacity of the solvent and the steric hindrance of the chiral alanine. This study supplies a view to tailor the morphologies and optical properties of the nanostructures, which could be used as sensors and photocatalysts.

A sensitivity analysis was conducted to evaluate several factors, including dam height, bank slope gradient, water storage times, and phased panel filling, on concrete-faced rockfill dams (CFRDs). The analysis identified the three most significant factors to examine their impacts on the stress-deformation characteristics of CFRDs. The results show that the order of influence on the dam body’s stress and deformation characteristics is as follows: dam height > bank slope gradient > water storage times > panel phased construction. From the perspective of stress-deformation of the face slab, water storage times predominantly affect tensile stress, while the bank slope gradient exerts the greatest influence on compressive stress. As the bank slope gradient decreases, the panel’s lateral restraint diminishes, leading to a decrease in the panel’s extrusion efficacy. Consequently, there are notable variations in the panel’s compressive stresses. An increase in dam height correlates with escalating stress and deformation in both the dam and face slab. As the bank slope gradient decreases, the deformation of the dam and face slab, as well as the range of tensile stress of the face slab, also increase. In contrast to a single water storage scenario, the face slab has experienced greater stress and deformation during the initial impoundment under multiple impoundment conditions. Therefore, multiple water storage schemes result in reduced deflection, axial horizontal displacement, and tensile stresses both along the slope and axial in the face slab. Furthermore, the tensile area at the bottom of the face slab transitions into a compressive area.

Dry-aging is a postmortem process that can substantially enhance the texture and flavour of beef. This study entailed suspending Yanbian cattle M. gluteus medius in the aging cabinet, maintained at a temperature of 2–4 °C and a relative humidity of 85 ± 5% for 35 days. Throughout this period, samples were systematically collected every 7 days. The widely targeted metabolomic analysis has been used in this investigation to analyse the dynamic changes in Yanbian cattle metabolites during dry-aging. A total of 883 metabolites were identified, with amino acids and their metabolites representing the largest proportion. Multivariate statistical analysis showed that 373 metabolites were identified as differential metabolites that changed significantly during the dry-aging process, including metabolites of amino acids, glycerophospholipids, and nucleotides and their metabolites. Additionally, 308 metabolites exhibited various increasing trends with time in dry-aging. The analysis of KEGG pathway analysis showed that ABC transporters, glycerophospholipid, and arachidonic acid metabolism are the most important metabolic pathways during dry-aging. These findings can guide technological developments in the meat processing sector and provide valuable insights into the metabolic traits and pathways of Yanbian cattle during the dry-aging process.

Accurate estimation of crop yield at the field scale plays a pivotal role in optimizing agricultural production and food security. Conventional studies have mainly focused on employing data-driven models for crop yield estimation at the regional scale, while large challenges may occur when attempting to apply these methods at the field scale. This is primarily due to the inherent complexity of obtaining reliable ground labels of yield for field validation, and the geographical independence and correlation that exists between fields. To effectively solve this problem, this study couples geographical, crop physiological knowledge and deep learning networks, and builds a graph-based deep learning framework by integrating high-medium spatial resolution active and passive remote sensing data (Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3) and uses it to estimate field scale winter wheat yield. Firstly, a deep learning framework based on graph theory was constructed to achieve accurate estimation of field scale time series winter wheat growth parameter (Leaf Area Index, LAI), and then the growth mechanism of winter wheat and the specific factors affecting wheat yield formation were further considered, so as to improve the yield estimation accuracy of the traditional data-driven yield estimation model. Finally, the yield estimates of the proposed method were compared and analyzed for farmlands under different categories of agricultural disasters. The results showed that the graph-based two-branch network architecture (the Seq_Gra_Gd model) with the optimal meteorological data input strategy (meteorological data of the previous 15 d) had the optimal LAI estimation accuracy, and except for the jointing stage of winter wheat, the Seq_Gra_Gd model had a high and stable LAI estimation accuracy at the other main growth stages. The Seq_Gra_Gd model achieved good accuracy in estimating winter wheat yield (R2 = 0.73, RMSE = 590.43 kg·ha−1), and the introduction of the graph convolution module enabled the model to take into account the spatial distribution characteristics of stripe rust and lodging disasters well, which improved the yield estimation accuracy of affected winter wheat.

IntroductionFunctional dyspepsia (FD), also known as non-ulcerative dyspepsia, is a common digestive system disorder.MethodsIn this study, an FD model was established using hunger and satiety disorders combined with an intraperitoneal injection of L-arginine. Indices used to evaluate the efficacy of hawthorn in FD mice include small intestinal propulsion rate, gastric residual rate, general condition, food intake, amount of drinking water, gastric histopathological examination, and serum nitric oxide (NO) and gastrin levels. Based on the intestinal flora and their metabolites, short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), the mechanism of action of Crataegi Fructus (hawthorn) on FD was studied. The fecal microbiota transplantation test was used to verify whether hawthorn altered the structure of the intestinal flora.ResultsThe results showed that hawthorn improved FD by significantly reducing the gastric residual rate, increasing the intestinal propulsion rate, the intake of food and drinking water, and the levels of gastrointestinal hormones. Simultaneously, hawthorn elevated substance P and 5-hydroxytryptamine expression in the duodenum, reduced serum NO levels, and increased vasoactive intestinal peptide expression in the duodenum. Notably, hawthorn increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria and SCFA-producing bacteria in the intestines of FD mice, decreased the abundance of conditional pathogenic bacteria, and significantly increased the SCFA content in feces.DiscussionThe mechanism by which hawthorn improves FD may be related to the regulation of intestinal flora structure and the production of SCFAs.

In recent years, fowl adenovirus (FAdV) transmission has significantly increased worldwide, leading to substantial economic losses in the poultry industry. The virus causes hepatitis-hydropericardium syndrome (HHS) and inclusion body hepatitis (IBH). The prevalent FAdV strains in China are FAdV-4, FAdV-8a, FAdV-8b, and FAdV-11. Vaccines for FAdV-4 and FAdV-8b, which prevent HHS and IBH, are available commercially, but no vaccine exists for FAdV-8a. To address this issue, we developed a vaccine using an oil emulsion to inactivate the FAdV-8a serotype. Additionally, we built a fluorescence quantitative PCR for the detection of the virus. The lowest concentration detected was 4.11 × 101 copies/μL. The study's results illustrated that the FAdV-8a oil emulsion vaccine effectively produced significant antibodies and offered ample protection for poultry. This vaccine can potentially limit the transmission of IBH resulting from FAdV-8a in China.

Abstract The two-spotted spider mite (TSSM, Tetranychus urticae Koch) is a significant agricultural pest, particularly in strawberries. Management of TSSM has traditionally relied on synthetic acaricides, but to mitigate dependency on these chemicals, the control of TSSM on strawberry is often combined with biological control measures and chemical control strategies. The predatory mite, Phytoseiulus persimilis, is a promising biological control agent, preying on all TSSM developmental stages. In this study, we examined the toxicity of six common acaricides on TSSM and P. persimilis, and cyetpyrafen was selected due to its highest relative toxicity value. Then, we examined the compatibility of cyetpyrafen with P. persimilis for TSSM management on strawberries. The results suggested that cyetpyrafen revealed no substantial differences in prey consumption or longevity when compared to the control, though minor effects on the development durations of protonymphs and deutonymphs were noted in the subsequent generation. Additionally, cyetpyrafen's toxicity on key pollinators, such as Apis mellifera and Bombus terrestris, was found to be low. Thus, an integrated strategy combining cyetpyrafen (0.83 mg/L) with P. persimilis (predator–prey ratio of 1:30) was examined under laboratory and field conditions. Laboratory trials demonstrated a reduction in mites per leaf from 32.72 to 14.50 within 3 days, correlating to a 70.23% control efficiency. This efficacy increased to 96.04% by day 9 and was sustained until the experiment concluded on day 27. Field trials similarly showed a reduction in TSSM from 53.93 to 9.63 mites/leaf by day 6, achieving an 83.64% control efficiency, and culminated in a 98.46% reduction by day 10. These findings suggested that an integrated approach utilizing cyetpyrafen in conjunction with P. persimilis can be an effective alternative for TSSM management on strawberry plants.

Abstract Baculovirus Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) has been widely used as a bioinsecticide and a protein expression vector. Despite their importance, very little is known about the structure of most baculovirus proteins. Here, we show a 3.2 Å resolution structure of helical cylindrical body of the AcMNPV nucleocapsid, composed of VP39, as well as 4.3 Å resolution structures of both the head and the base of the nucleocapsid composed of over 100 protein subunits. AcMNPV VP39 demonstrates some features of the HK97-like fold and utilizes disulfide-bonds and a set of interactions at its C-termini to mediate nucleocapsid assembly and stability. At both ends of the nucleocapsid, the VP39 cylinder is constricted by an outer shell ring composed of proteins AC104, AC142 and AC109. AC101(BV/ODV-C42) and AC144(ODV-EC27) form a C14 symmetric inner layer at both capsid head and base. In the base, these proteins interact with a 7-fold symmetric capsid plug, while a portal-like structure is seen in the central portion of head. Additionally, we propose an application of AlphaFold2 for model building in intermediate resolution density.

In this study, a composite sandwich was used as an intermediate layer and TC4/304 stainless steel was joined by explosion welding. First, intermetallic compounds with different butt joint sizes were added. When the length of the butt joint was kept at 4 mm, the mechanical properties of the joint increased with the extension length. The maximum tensile strength of the joint was 600 MPa when the extension length was varied between 1 and 2.5 mm. A ''net basket organization'' was formed in the titanium-side weld, and α → β and β → α ′ phase transitions occurred. Comparative microstructural analysis shows that the aspect ratio of the organization decreases with the increase of the length of the titanium side weld.

Purpose – High-speed maglev technology can address the issues of adhesion, friction, vibration and high-speed current collection in traditional wheel-rail systems, making it an important direction for the future development of high-speed rail technology. Design/methodology/approach – This paper elaborates on the demand and significance of developing high-speed maglev technology worldwide and examines the current status and technological maturity of several major high-speed maglev systems globally. Findings – This paper summarizes the challenges in the development of high-speed maglev railways in China. Based on this analysis, it puts forward considerations for future research on high-speed maglev railways. Originality/value – This paper describes the development status and technical maturity of several major high-speed maglev systems in the world for the first time, summarizes the existing problems in the development of China's high-speed maglev railway and on this basis, puts forward the thinking of the next research of China's high-speed maglev railway.

Abstract Background Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4i) have become firmly established in treatment algorithms and national guidelines for improving glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).To report the findings from a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 3 clinical trial, which was designed to assess the efficacy and safety of a novel DPP-4 inhibitor fotagliptin in treatment-naive patients with T2DM. Methods Patients with T2DM were randomized to receive fotagliptin (n = 230), alogliptin (n = 113) or placebo (n = 115) at a 2:1:1 ratio for 24 weeks of double-blind treatment period, followed by an open-label treatment period, making up a total of 52 weeks. The primary efficacy endpoint was to determine the superiority of fotagliptin over placebo in the change of HbA1c from baseline to Week 24. All serious or significant adverse events were recorded. Results After 24 weeks, mean decreases in HbA1c from baseline were -0.70% for fotagliptin, -0.72% for alogliptin and -0.26% for placebo. Estimated mean treatment differences in HbA1c were -0.44% (95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.62% to -0.27%) for fotagliptin versus placebo, and -0.46% (95% CI: -0.67% to -0.26%) for alogliptin versus placebo, and 0.02% (95%CI: -0.16% to 0.19%; upper limit of 95%CI

Abstract Background Takayasu arteritis (TAK) is a chronic inflammatory arteritis. It most often affects non-specific large vessel progressively, such as the aorta and its branches. The diagnosis in TAK is typically delayed. Isolated pulmonary artery involvement in Takayasu arteritis is uncommon. Owing to its rarity, the diagnosis is challenging and requires an integrated approach comprising clinical and imaging findings. In order to facilitate early diagnosis of TAK for clinicians, wider use of non-invasive imaging is impacting this. Case presentation In this report, we present the imaging characteristics of a rare isolated pulmonary artery involvement in Takayasu arteritis. Pulmonary computed tomography angiography revealed only limited thick walls of both proximal pulmonary artery and stenosis of pulmonary artery lumen, and the other large blood vessels were not involved. The patient undergone pulmonary endarterectomy and pulmonary angioplasty. Then, approximately one month afterward, she passed away due to heart failure. Conclusions Imaging examination is the main basis for diagnosing this disease. This impression might improve disease awareness among doctors and progress in diagnosis.

Crack-free specimens were prepared from ZrC-modified Ni60 alloy by laser metal deposition. The effects of ZrC powder adulteration on the mechanism of microstructure refinement were investigated. The results demonstrated that the adulteration of ZrC powder did not provide nucleation sites for the hardening phase. The ZrC powder was added to Ni60 alloy powder to reduce the content of columnar dendrites and the eutectics of laser metal deposition specimens. The transformation of the dendritic hardening phase into a massive hardening phase was induced. The fine Ni–B–Si eutectic microstructure changed to a massive NiZr eutectic and peritectic microstructure with increasing ZrC powder mass fraction. The microstructure transformation mechanism constrained the initiation and propagation of cracks in the deposited specimens. The present research provides a method for improving the cracking defect of laser additive manufacturing Ni–Cr–B–Si system alloys and a theoretical basis for promoting the application of the alloy in additive manufacturing.

This study aimed to investigate the efficiency of the secondary metabolites (SMs) produced by a co-culture of Trichoderma harzianum TW21990 and Burkholderia vietnamiensis B418 in the control of Colletotrichum siamense CM9. A fermentation filtrate of B418 + TW21990 co-culture (BT21) produced a notable increase in the inhibition rate of CM9 compared to those of TW21990 and B418 monocultures, which reached 91.40% and 80.46% on PDA plates and strawberry leaves, respectively. The BT21 fermentation broth exhibited high control efficiency on strawberry root rot of 68.95% in a pot experiment, which was higher than that in the monocultures and fluazinam treatment. In addition, BT21 treatment promoted strawberry root development, improved antioxidative enzyme activities in the leaves and roots, and enhanced the total chlorophyll content of the strawberry leaves. UHPLC-MS/MS analysis of fermentation filtrates was performed to elucidate SM variations, revealing 478 and 795 metabolites in BT21 co-culture in positive and negative ion modes, respectively. The metabolomic profiles suggested abundant SMs with antagonistic capabilities and growth-promoting effects: 3-(propan-2-yl)-octahydropyrrolo [1,2-a]pyrazine-1,4-dione (cyclo(L-Pro-L-Val)), 3-[(4-hydroxyphenyl)methyl]-octahydropyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazine-1,4-dione (cyclo(L-Pro-L-Tyr)), 3-indoleacetic acid (IAA), 2-hydroxycinnamic acid, 4-aminobutyric acid (GABA), bafilomycin B1, and DL-indole-3-lactic acid (ILA) were significantly enhanced in the co-culture. Overall, this study demonstrates that a co-culture strategy is efficient for inducing bioactive SMs in T. harzianum and B. vietnamiensis, which could be exploited as a novel approach for developing biocontrol consortia.

Nanoplastics (NPs) cause serious contamination of drinking water and potential damage to human health. This study aimed to investigate the effects of NPs with different particle sizes and concentrations on the reproductive function of male mice. In this study, free drinking water exposure was used to expose male BALB/C mice to PS-NPs (20 nm, 200 nm, and 1000 nm) at 0.1 mg/L, 1 mg/L, and 5 mg/L for 4 months. The male reproductive function of the mice was assessed after NPs exposure, and fecal and blood samples were collected for macrogenomics and metabolomics. The results showed that PS-NPs resulted in mice with reduced testicular organ coefficients, decreased sperm quality, altered testicular tissue structure, disturbed sex hormone levels, and abnormal levels of inflammatory factors and oxidative stress. Furthermore, this study found that NP exposure affected the alteration of gut communities and metabolic pathways related to male reproduction, such as Clostridium and glutathione metabolism. Importantly, we found an effect of NP particle size on reproductive function. In the future, more attention should be paid to the smaller particle sizes of NPs.

Abstract Electrocatalytic technologies play a vital role in the advancement of hydrogen energy and other renewable green energy sources, with nanocatalysts gaining significant attention due to their size-dependent electrocatalytic activity and broad applications. Single-particle electrochemistry offers a powerful approach to investigate the intrinsic catalytic activity and electrocatalytic mechanisms of individual nanoscale systems, thereby enabling a deeper understanding of the structure-activity relationship at the nanoscale. In this review, several cutting-edge high-resolution techniques for examining local reactivity at the single-particle level are discussed, such as scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM), scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM), single-particle collision technique, and single-atom/molecule electrochemistry. We begin by concisely elucidating the working principles of these advanced electrochemical methodologies. Subsequently, we present recent advancements in high-resolution electrochemical techniques for characterizing electrocatalysis in detail with valuable insights into the local activity of various catalysts. In future research, the integration of multiple technologies through collaborative analysis is anticipated to further unveil the catalytic active sites of electrocatalysts with intricate structures and facilitate quantitative investigations of complex reaction processes.

The pyrolysis performances and reaction kinetics of pine needles (PN) were investigated by integrating thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The average activation energy of PN was estimated to be 183.2 kJ/mol by Kissinger Akahira Sunose (KAS) and 183.8 kJ/mol by Flynn Wall Ozawa (FWO), respectively at heating rates of 10, 20, and 40 °C/min. The pyrolysis of PN was found to be more efficient at the lower heating rates, while increased heating rates promoted the reaction. Using the King-Kai (K-K) method, the activation energies of hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin were calculated to be 156, 165, and 172 kJ/mol, respectively. The descending order of evolving gases and functional groups from PN was found to be CO2, C=C, C=O, H2O, CH4, and CO. The main pyrolytic by-products identified were hydrocarbons, phenols, alcohols, ketones, and aldehydes. The determination of kinetic parameters provides fundamental information for predicting the rates at which chemical reactions occur. This study demonstrates the potential of PN as a suitable source for bioenergy.

Abstract Non-native pests, climate change, and their interactions are likely to alter relationships between trees and tree-associated organisms with consequences for forest health. To understand and predict such changes, factors structuring tree-associated communities need to be determined. Here, we analysed the data consisting of records of insects and fungi collected from dormant twigs from 155 tree species at 51 botanical gardens or arboreta in 32 countries. Generalized dissimilarity models revealed similar relative importance of studied climatic, host-related and geographic factors on differences in tree-associated communities. Mean annual temperature, phylogenetic distance between hosts and geographic distance between locations were the major drivers of dissimilarities. The increasing importance of high temperatures on differences in studied communities indicate that climate change could affect tree-associated organisms directly and indirectly through host range shifts. Insect and fungal communities were more similar between closely related vs. distant hosts suggesting that host range shifts may facilitate the emergence of new pests. Moreover, dissimilarities among tree-associated communities increased with geographic distance indicating that human-mediated transport may serve as a pathway of the introductions of new pests. The results of this study highlight the need to limit the establishment of tree pests and increase the resilience of forest ecosystems to changes in climate.

Magnesium (Mg) alloy is one of the commonly used materials in automobile lightweight design, In the use of Mg alloys, welding appears to be a priority. Mg alloys have poor weldability with other metals due to their physical and chemical properties, and are prone to welding defects such as cracks and depressions during the welding process. This paper mainly introduces the properties, applications, and several main welding methods of Mg alloys (Fusion welding, friction welding, diffusion welding, explosive welding, etc.). And analyzed and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of various welding methods and precautions, and put forward some methods to reduce the difficulty of welding and improve the quality of joints.

Abstract Background Myoblast differentiation requires metabolic reprogramming driven by increased mitochondrial biogenesis and oxidative phosphorylation. The canonical GH-GHR-IGFs axis in liver exhibits a great complexity in response to somatic growth. However, the underlying mechanism of whether local GHR acts as a control valve to regulate mitochondrial function through mitochondrial biogenesis during myoblast differentiation remains unknown. Methods We manipulated the GHR expression in chicken primary myoblast to investigate its roles in mitochondrial biogenesis and function during myoblast differentiation. Results We reported that GHR is induced during myoblast differentiation. Local GHR promoted mitochondrial biogenesis during myoblast differentiation, as determined by the fluorescence intensity of Mito-Tracker Green staining and MitoTimer reporter system, the expression of mitochondrial biogenesis markers (PGC1α, NRF1, TFAM) and mtDNA encoded gene (ND1, CYTB, COX1, ATP6), as well as mtDNA content. Consistently, local GHR enhanced mitochondrial function during myoblast differentiation, as determined by the oxygen consumption rate, mitochondrial membrane potential, ATP level and ROS production. We next revealed that the regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis and function by GHR depends on IGF1. In terms of the underlying mechanism, we demonstrated that IGF1 regulates mitochondrial biogenesis via PI3K/AKT/CREB pathway. Additionally, GHR knockdown repressed myoblast differentiation. Conclusions In conclusion, our data corroborate that local GHR acts as a control valve to enhance mitochondrial function by promoting mitochondrial biogenesis via IGF1-PI3K/AKT/CREB pathway during myoblast differentiation. Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt. is one of the edible and medicinal plants. The purpose of this study was to compare the flavonoids and polyphenols extracted from different varieties of P. frutescens leaves ('Korean green PF1', 'Chinese PF2', 'Korean purple PF3', 'Korean bicolor PF4', 'Chinese bicolor PF5'), and to explore their antioxidant activities in vitro. Optimization of extraction process of flavonoids and polyphenols from P. frutescens leaves was studied by single factor tests and orthogonal test. The results showed that the optimum parameters were ethanol concentration 75%, solid-liquid ratio 1:80 g/mL, extraction time 2 h, extraction temperature 70 ℃. Under these conditions, the extraction amount of flavonoids and polyphenols was the highest, which were (16.82±0.60) mg/g and (80.42±2.66) mg/g, respectively. Among different varieties of P. frutescens leaves, PF3 had the highest content of polyphenols (17.77±0.29) mg/g, PF5 had the highest content of flavonoids (80.42±2.66) mg/g. The results of antioxidant activity showed that the leaves of different varieties of P. frutescens had good antioxidant activity. Abstract Conflict between genes inherited from the mother (matrigenes) and the father (patrigenes) is predicted to arise during social interactions among offspring if these genes are not evenly distributed among offspring genotypes. This intragenomic conflict drives parent-specific transcription patterns in offspring resulting from parent-specific epigenetic modifications. Previous tests of the kinship theory of intragenomic conflict in honey bees (Apis mellifera) provided evidence in support of theoretical predictions for variation in worker reproduction, which is associated with extreme variation in morphology and behavior. However, more subtle behaviors – such as aggression – have not been extensively studied. Additionally, the canonical epigenetic mark (DNA methylation) associated with parent-specific transcription in plant and mammalian model species does not appear to play the same role as in honey bees, and thus the molecular mechanisms underlying intragenomic conflict in this species is an open area of investigation. Here, we examined the role of intragenomic conflict in shaping aggression in honey bee workers through a reciprocal cross design and Oxford Nanopore direct RNA sequencing. We attempted to probe the underlying regulatory basis of this conflict through analyses of parent-specific RNA m6A and alternative splicing patterns. We report evidence that intragenomic conflict occurs in the context of honey bee aggression, with increased paternal and maternal allele-biased transcription in aggressive compared to non-aggressive bees, and higher paternal allele-biased transcription overall. However, we found no evidence to suggest that RNA m6A or alternative splicing mediate intragenomic conflict in this species.

Abstract Arsenic trioxide (ATO) is a promising chemotherapeutic agent, but its clinical application is limited due to its poor pharmacokinetics and dose-limited toxicity. Moreover, the combination of ATO and sec-o-glucosylhamaudol (SOG) can improve the therapeutic effect of hepatoma. In this study, PEGylated magnetic nanographene oxide (PEG@MGO) was used as magnetic carriers to enhance the targeting ability of the drug delivery system. ATO and SOG are loaded on the surface of PEG@MGO nanoparticles through electrostatic interactions. This biocompatible nanocomposite shows magnetic susceptibility, pH sensitivity, and high loading capacity of the drugs. The in vitro cytotoxicity study of human hepatoma cell line (HepG2) cells showed more significant cytotoxicity and obvious synergistic effect between ATO and SOG compared with that of single drug-loaded nanoparticles via MTT assay. In vitro cellular uptake was observed by Prussian blue staining and fluorescently labeling. The results demonstrated a high cellular internalization rate of PEG@MGO. The ATO and SOG co-loaded nanodrug significantly inhibits the growth of tumors in vivo, which might be due to the oxidative stress and proapoptotic effect. This type of multidrug nanocomposite offers a promising alternative for cancer therapy. Facing the growing issue of cardiovascular diseases, metallic materials with higher tensile strength and fatigue resistance play an important role in treating diseases. This review lists the advantages and drawbacks of commonly used medical metallic materials for vascular stents. To avoid post-procedural threats such as thrombosis and in-stent restenosis, surface treatments, and coating methods have been used to further improve the biocompatibility of these materials. Surface treatments including laser, plasma treatment, polishing, oxidization, and fluorination can improve biocompatibility by modifying the surface charges, surface morphology, and surface properties of the material. Coating methods based on polymer coatings, carbon-based coatings, and drug-functional coatings can regulate the surface properties, and also serve as an effective barrier to the interaction of metallic biomaterial surfaces with biomolecules, which can be used to improve corrosion resistance and stability, as well as improve their biocompatibility. Biocompatibility serves as the most fundamental property of cardiovascular stents, and maintaining the excellent and stable biocompatibility of cardiovascular stent surfaces is a current research bottleneck. Few reviews have been published on metallic biomaterials as cardiovascular stents and their surface treatments. For the purpose of advancing research on cardiovascular stents, common metal biomaterials, surface treatment methods, and coating methods to improve biocompatibility and comprehensive properties of the materials are described in this review. Finally, we suggest future directions for stent development, including continuously improving the durability and stability of permanent stents, accelerating the development of biodegradable stents, and strengthening feedback to improve the safety and reliability of cardiovascular stents.
