7. Studies of the Time Structure of Extended Air Showers for Direction Reconstruction with the HAWC Outrigger Array

Abstract

The High Altitude Water Cherenkov (HAWC) gamma-ray observatory is a ground-based air shower array designed to detect Cherenkov light produced in water by secondary particles from atmospheric air showers. In order to improve the sensitivity at the highest energies, especially for the shower cores falling outside the main array, 345 smaller Water Cherenkov Detectors (WCDs) were installed around the main array, the outrigger array. This extension increased the instrumented area of HAWC by a factor of four. With the increased size of the array, and the ability to detect shower particles further away from the core, understanding of the time structure of the shower front is crucial for accurate direction reconstruction and mandates proper modeling. In this contribution, we present a model of the shower front as expected to be observed by the outriggers obtained from Monte-Carlo simulations. Abstract

The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) is planned to be built at Daocheng, Sichuan Province, China. The water Cherenkov detector array (WCDA), with an area of 78,000 m2 and capacity of 350,000 tons of purified water, is one of the major components of the LHAASO project. A 9-cell detector prototype array has been built at the Yangbajing site, Tibet, China to comprehensively understand the water Cherenkov technique and investigate the engineering issues of WCDA. In this paper, the rate and charge distribution of single-channel signals are evaluated using a full detail Monte Carlo simulation. The results are discussed and compared with the prototype array.

Abstract

Background: Single‐cell RNA sequencing analysis has been usually conducted on post‐traumatic epilepsy (PET) and hereditary epilepsy (HE) patients; however, the transcriptome of patients with traumatic temporal lobe epilepsy has rarely been studied. Materials and Methods: Hippocampus tissues isolated from one patient with PTE and one patient with HE were used in the present study. Single cell isolates were prepared and captured using a 10× Genomics Chromium Single‐Cell 3′ kit (V3) according to the manufacturer's instructions. The libraries were sequenced on an Illumina NovaSeq 6000 sequencing system. Raw data were processed, and the cells were filtered and classified using the Seurat R package. Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection was used for visualization. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified based on a p‐value ≤0.01 and log fold change (FC) ≥0.25. Gene Ontology (GO, http://geneontology.org/) and KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, www.genome.jp/kegg) analyses were performed on the DEGs for enrichment analysis. Results: The reads obtained from the 10× genomic platform for PTE and HE were 39.56 M and 30.08 M, respectively. The Q30 score of the RNA reads was >91.6%. After filtering, 7479 PTE cells and 9357 HE cells remained for further study. More than 96.4% of the reads were mapped to GRCh38/GRCm38. The cells were differentially distributed in two groups, with higher numbers of oligodendrocytes (6522 vs. 2532) and astrocytes (133 vs. 52), and lower numbers of microglial cells (2242 vs. 3811), and neurons (3 vs. 203) present in the HE group than in the PTE group. The DEGs in four cell clusters were identified, with 25 being in oligodendrocytes (13 upregulated and 12 downregulated), 87 in microglia cells (42 upregulated and 45 downregulated), 222 in astrocytes (115 upregulated and 107 downregulated), and 393 in neurons (305 upregulated and 88 downregulated). The genes MTND1P23 (downregulated), XIST (downregulated), and RPS4Y1 (upregulated) were commonly expressed in all four cell clusters. The DEGs in microglial cells and astrocytes were enriched in the IL‐17 signaling pathway. Conclusion: Our study explored differences in cells found in a patient with PE compared to a patient with HE, and the transcriptome in the different cells was analyzed for the first time. Studying inflammatory and immune functions might be the best approach for investigating traumatic temporal lobe epilepsy in neurons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

20. Evaluation of a time-resolved fluorescence immunochromatography for procalcitonin

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the performance of a time-resolved fluorescence immunochromatographic assay for quantitative detection of procalcitonin (PCT). Methods Based on double antibody sandwich method and using time-resolved fluorescent nano-microspheres as the marker, we established an immunochromatographic assay for detecting PCT. We evaluated the performance of this method for PCT detection in terms of linearity, sensitivity, precision, specificity, and correlation. Results This immunochromatographic assay had a good linearity for PCT detection within the linear range of 0.05-100 ng/mL, and the linear equation was Y=0.074 7X+0.524 6 (R2=0.990 4). The sensitivity of this method was 0.03 ng/mL with an inter-assay precision CV≤5.42% and an intra-assay precision CV≤6.86%. The detection results by this method were well correlated with those by AE-180 automatic chemiluminescence immunoanalyzer and showed a positive coincidence rate of 96.61% and a negative coincidence rate of 94.44%; The false positive rate, false negative rate and diagnostic coincidence rate of this assay were 5.56%, 3.39%, and 95.53%, respectively. Conclusion This time-resolved immunochromatographic assay allows simple, economic, rapid and quantifiable detection of PCT and shows a good performance for potential application in the detection for clinical serum samples.

25. Ellagic acid from pomegranate peel: Consecutive countercurrent chromatographic separation and antioxidant effect.

Abstract

Ellagic acid is one of the most representative natural antioxidants, and is rich in pomegranate peel. In this study, a consecutive countercurrent chromatographic (CCC) separation method was established to improve the preparative efficiency of ellagic acid from pomegranate peel. By optimizing the solvent system, sample size and flow rate, 280 mg of ellagic acid was obtained from 5 g of crude sample from pomegranate peel by CCC after six consecutive injections. Moreover, the values of EC50 for ellagic acid in scavenging ABTS·+ and DPPH· were 4.59 ± 0.07 and 10.54 ± 0.07 μg/ml, respectively, indicating a strong antioxidant activity. This study not only established a high‐throughput method for the preparation of ellagic acid, but also provided a successful example for the development of and research on other natural antioxidants. Abstract

By analyses on the trace elements of coals, host-rocks and wall-rocks, this study aims to trace the sources and evaluate the utilization prospects of REE+Y (REY) in coals from Bayili Coal Mine (Wensu, Xinjiang, China). The distribution patterns of REY in the coals are divided into two groups, flat-type and heavy REE-enrichment type (H-type). The REY of the former was mainly from the gneisses of the basement of the coal-bearing basin, and that of the later was partly from hydrothermal solution. The host-rocks show two types of REY patterns, middle REE-enrichment type (M-type) and H-type, which are due to the injection of REY from acid terrestrial water and hydrothermal solution, respectively. Almost all the coal samples are plotted into the promising area on the diagram of percentage of critical elements (REYdef, rel) vs ratio of sum of critical elements to the sum of excessive elements (Coutl) and half of the coal samples have high contents of Ga closing to the cut-off grade of Ga deposit as by-product, which indicate that the REY and Ga in Bayili Coal Mine are of utilization prospects as by-product.

35. Early Paleozoic arc-back-arc system evolution in the junction of the Qinling and Qilian Orogens: Geochemical constraints from ca. 445–430 Ma magmatic rocks in the Tianshui area.

Abstract

The Tianshui area is located at the junction of the Qinling and Qilian Orogens, the evolution of which is crucial in understanding the Early Palaeozoic tectonic evolution of the Central China Orogenic System. We present here geochronological, geochemical, and Sr-Nd isotopic data for four representative Silurian magmatic rocks, termed the Dangchuan, Huamiao, Yanjiadian, and Hongtupu, along a cross section across the main rock units of the Tianhui area. The 432 Ma Dangchuan syenogranites are peraluminous with negative εNd(t) values, high initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios, and low Rb/Sr and high CaO/Na2O ratios. We interpret the syenogranites to be generated by partial melting of metagreywackes during a Silurian orogenic event. The 436 Ma Huamiao diorites are high-Mg diorites with high MgO contents and Mg# (63–65) and enriched Sr-Nd isotopic compositions. The 445 Ma Yanjiadian diorites are high-Mg adakitic rocks with high Sr and Mg# and low Y and Yb contents. They were both generated by the interaction between sediment/slab-derived fluids/melts and mantle peridotite in the subduction-related setting. The 445 Ma Hongtupu basalts include E-MORB and IAB with depleted Sr-Nd isotopic compositions. They were derived from enriched mantle and sediment-modified mantle, respectively, and formed in a back-arc basin setting. Synthesizing our new and published data, we propose a tectonic model involving generation of Baihua-Huluhe arc-back-arc system, subduction of the Huluhe back-arc oceanic basin, and collision between the North Qinling arc terrane and North China Block, which is closely associated with the closure of the Proto-Tethys Ocean. Abstract

The transformer model is a particularly important part of the power system. Currently, some researchers are committed to building a more accurate transformer model. Based on the existing transformer $\pi$ type equivalent circuit, this paper proposes a concise unified power flow model for three-phase transformers in the medium and low voltage distribution network. The model built in this paper considers the influence of the zero-sequence current path on leakage admittance and excitation admittance. Simultaneously, the symmetrical component method is used to express the influence of interphase coupling, and the phase shift matrix is introduced to realize the different phase shift relations. Based on the IEEE 4 bus system, the effectiveness of the unified power flow model is verified.
