Abstract Spatiotemporally controlled cargo release is a key advantage of nanocarriers in anti-tumor therapy. Various external or internal stimuli-responsive nanomedicines have been reported for their ability to increase drug levels at the diseased site and enhance therapeutic efficacy through a triggered release mechanism. Redox-manipulating nanocarriers, by exploiting the redox imbalances in tumor tissues, can achieve precise drug release, enhancing therapeutic efficacy while minimizing damage to healthy cells. As a typical redox-sensitive bond, the disulfide bond is considered a promising tool for designing tumor-specific, stimulus-responsive drug delivery systems (DDS). The intracellular redox imbalance caused by tumor microenvironment (TME) regulation has emerged as an appealing therapeutic target for cancer treatment. Sustained glutathione (GSH) depletion in the TME by redox-manipulating nanocarriers can exacerbate oxidative stress through the exchange of disulfide-thiol bonds, thereby enhancing the efficacy of ROS-based cancer therapy. Intriguingly, GSH depletion is simultaneously associated with glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) inhibition and dihydrolipoamide S-acetyltransferase (DLAT) oligomerization, triggering mechanisms such as ferroptosis and cuproptosis, which increase the sensitivity of tumor cells. Hence, in this review, we present a comprehensive summary of the advances in disulfide based redox-manipulating nanocarriers for anticancer drug delivery and provide an overview of some representative achievements for combinational therapy and theragnostic. The high concentration of GSH in the TME enables the engineering of redox-responsive nanocarriers for GSH-triggered on-demand drug delivery, which relies on the thiol-disulfide exchange reaction between GSH and disulfide-containing vehicles. Conversely, redox-manipulating nanocarriers can deplete GSH, thereby enhancing the efficacy of ROS-based treatment nanoplatforms. In brief, we summarize the up-to-date developments of the redox-manipulating nanocarriers for cancer therapy based on DDS and provide viewpoints for the establishment of more stringent anti-tumor nanoplatform. IntroductionApolipoprotein E (apoE) acts as a binding molecule for both the low-density lipoprotein receptor and the lipoprotein receptor-related protein and this function is essential for facilitating the hepatocyte uptake of lipoproteins containing apoB. The absence of apoE leads to increased atherogenicity in both humans and mice, although the precise molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood.ObjectivesThis study aimed to investigate the susceptibility of apoE knockout (KO) rabbits, in comparison with wild-type (WT) rabbits, to diet-induced hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis.MethodsApoE KO rabbits and WT rabbits were fed a diet containing 0.3% cholesterol for 16 weeks. Plasma lipid levels, lipoproteins, and apolipoproteins were analyzed. Atherosclerosis was evaluated at the endpoint of experiments. In addition, we evaluated the oxidizability of those lipoproteins containing apoB to investigate the possible mechanisms of atherosclerosis.ResultsMale apoE KO rabbits showed significantly elevated levels of total cholesterol and triglycerides compared to WT rabbits, while female apoE KO rabbits displayed similar high total cholesterol levels, albeit with significantly higher triglycerides levels than WT controls. Notably, both male (2.1-fold increase) and female (1.6-fold increase) apoE KO rabbits exhibited a significantly augmented aortic lesion area compared to WT controls. Pathological examination showed that the increased intimal lesions in apoE KO rabbits were featured by heightened infiltration of macrophages (2.7-fold increase) and smooth muscle cells (2.5-fold increase). Furthermore, coronary atherosclerotic lesions were also increased by 1.3-fold in apoE KO rabbits. Lipoprotein analysis revealed that apoB48-rich beta-very-low-density lipoproteins were notably abundant in apoE KO rabbits, suggesting that these remnant lipoproteins of intestinal origin serve as the primary atherogenic lipoproteins. Moreover, apoB48-rich remnant lipoproteins isolated from apoE KO rabbits exhibited heightened susceptibility to copper-induced oxidation.ConclusionsThe findings indicate that apoB48-rich remnant lipoproteins, resulting from apoE deficiency, possess greater atherogenic potential than apoB100-rich remnant lipoproteins, regardless of plasma TC levels.

Objectives: The substitution of chemical fertilizers with organic alternatives presents a viable strategy for enhancing soil quality and boosting agricultural productivity. However, the question remains whether organic–inorganic compound fertilizers (COIFs) can sustain improved soil quality and crop yields while reducing chemical fertilizer use. The underlying mechanisms of COIF’s impact still warrant further exploration. Methods: In this study, a long-term fertilization trial was conducted from 2020 to 2023 at two sites with different soil textures and types in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, China. The experiment involved three fertilization treatments, each replicated three times: (1) LCF (conventional fertilizer treatment); (2) COIF1 (COIF applied at 90% of the recommended rate); and (3) COIF2 (COIF applied at 80% of the recommended rate). The objective was to assess the effects of COIF on summer maize growth, grain yield, nutrient uptake and utilization, and soil quality. Results: Compared to LCF, COIF1 in Yantai and Dezhou increased biomass by 6.4% and 8.1%, grain yield by 5.9% and 4.12%, PFP (N, P, and K) by 17.6% and 15.7%, and soil quality by 563.6% and 462.5%, respectively. No significant differences in biomass and grain yield were observed between COIF2 and LCF, yet COIF1 in Yantai and Dezhou enhanced PFP (N, P, and K) by 19.7% and 18.6%, and soil quality by 109.1% and 175.0%, respectively. In conclusion, COIF improved soil quality by enhancing soil organic matter (SOM), available nutrients, pH, and other soil indices. It promoted summer maize growth, increased grain yield, and improved nutrient utilization. COIF was a practical and effective measure to reduce chemical fertilizer use, enhance field soil quality, and ultimately increase maize yield and nutrient utilization.

Thermoelectric (TE) materials working in radioisotope thermoelectric generators are irradiated by neutrons throughout its service; thus, investigating the neutron irradiation stability of TE devices is necessary. Herein, the influence of neutron irradiation with fluences of 4.56 × 1010 and 1 × 1013 n/cm2 by pulsed neutron reactor on the electrical and thermal transport properties of n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 and p-type Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 thermoelectric alloys prepared by cold-pressing and molding is investigated. After neutron irradiation, the properties of thermoelectric materials fluctuate, which is related to the material type and irradiation fluence. Different from p-type thermoelectric materials, neutron irradiation has a positive effect on n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 materials. This result might be due to the increase of carrier mobility and the optimization of electrical conductivity. Afterward, the effects of p-type and n-type TE devices with different treatments on the output performance of TE devices are further discussed. The positive and negative effects caused by irradiation can cancel each other to a certain extent. For TE devices paired with p-type Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 and n-type Bi2Te2.7Se0.3 thermoelectric legs, the generated power and conversion efficiency are stable after neutron irradiation.

Mild organic substitution is advantageous for sustainable agricultural development. In order to determine the proper fertilization strategy, it is essential to investigate the impact of substituting chemical fertilizers with varying levels of organic manure on soil nutrients, microbial communities, and crop productivity. Four treatments were implemented: no fertilizer, sole chemical fertilizer, 20% organic manure substitution, and 40% organic manure substitution. Bacterial and fungal communities were characterized through high-throughput sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene V3–V4 region and the V4 region, respectively. The 20% and 40% organic manure substitutions increased soil organic matter (SOM) content, total nitrogen (TN) content, and reduced soil pH compared to the control (CK). The 20% organic manure substitution showed the most significant improvements in soil alkaline phosphatase, urease, and invertase activities. Soil nutrient enhancement increased bacterial alpha diversity, with a milder impact on fungal alpha diversity compared to bacteria. Different fertilization treatments elevated the relative abundance of bacterial Bacteroidetes (8.11%, 21.25%, and 1.88%), Actinomycetes (12.65%, 26.36%, and 15.33%), and fungal Ascomycota (16.19%, 10.44%, and 12.69%), known for degrading recalcitrant organic matter. The sole chemical fertilizer treatment increased the pathogenic Cheatotryiales. Shared species, primarily from bacterial Actinomycetes, Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and fungal Ascomycota phyla, were found at 20% and 40% organic manure substitution levels. Specifically, the 20% organic manure substitution level promoted the relative abundance of beneficial plant growth-promoting taxa, Oxalobacteraceae and Massilia, and suppressed pathogens, with an increase in the relative abundance of the Purpureocillium genus and Mortierellomycota. These findings suggest that a 20% OF substitution can maintain crop yield, enhance soil nutrients and enzyme activities by fostering beneficial soil bacteria, inhibiting soil-borne pathogens, and refining microbial community structure.

Objective: The aim of this study was to identify hub genes associated with immune cell infiltration in breast cancer through bioinformatic analyses of multiple datasets. Methods: Nonparametric (NOISeq) and robust rank aggregation-ranked parametric (EdgeR) methods were used to assess robust differentially expressed genes across multiple datasets. Protein-protein interaction network, GO, KEGG enrichment, and sub-network analyses were performed to identify immune-associated hub genes in breast cancer. Immune cell infiltration was evaluated with the CIBERSORT, XCELL, and TIMER methods. The association between the hub gene-based risk signature and survival was determined through Kaplan–Meier survival analysis, multivariate Cox analysis, and a nomogram with external verification. Results: We identified 163 robust differentially expressed genes in breast cancer through applying both nonparametric and parametric methods to multiple GEO (n = 2,212) and TCGA (n = 1,045) datasets. Integrated bioinformatic analyses further identified 10 hub genes: CXCL10, CXCL9, CXCL11, SPP1, POSTN, MMP9, DPT, COL1A1, ADAMDEC1, and RGS1. The 10 hub-gene-based risk signature significantly correlated with the prognosis of patients with breast cancer. Moreover, these hub genes were strongly associated with the extent of infiltration of CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, neutrophils, macrophages, and myeloid dendritic cells into breast tumors. Conclusions: Integrated analyses of multiple databases led to the discovery of 10 robust hub genes that together may serve as a risk factor characteristic of the immune microenvironment in breast cancer.

The ice crystal supercooled droplet mixed phase icing problem is an important research direction in aircraft icing and has received more attention in recent years. The thermodynamic process of the water film after the ice crystals impact on the surface determines the final ice shape, which is an important part of the accurate prediction of aircraft icing. In this paper, a thermodynamic model of ice crystal supercooled droplet mixed phase icing is proposed based on the extended Messinger model, according to the results of flow field and particle trajectory calculations. In this model, the mass and energy conservation equations of ice crystals, supercooled droplets, and liquid water are considered. The equations take the process of ice crystal adhesion and erosion into account, and the solution method of the equations is given. Ice shapes are calculated under various ice crystal supercooled droplet mixed phase conditions and compared with experimental results to demonstrate the validity of the numerical method. The effects of ice crystal erosion rate, melting ratio, and adhesion coefficient on the calculation results are analyzed by a numerical method. The results show that the ice crystal erosion rate has little effect on the ice shape, while a larger melting ratio and adhesion coefficient lead to more ice accretion.

Paraganglioma (PGL) is a neuroendocrine tumor that arises from the sympathetic or parasympathetic paraganglia. Primary thyroid PGL is extremely rare. PGL may be difficult to diagnose on frozen sections because its histopathological features, such as polygonal tumor cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm arranged irregularly, overlap with those of thyroid follicular adenoma. We present a case of thyroid PGL in a female patient and provide a detailed description of the patient’s clinicopathologic characteristics. Cervical computed tomography showed a left thyroid mass with uneven density. Intraoperative frozen section analysis showed an uneven fibrous septa and rich networks of delicate vessels surrounding tumor cell nests. The tumor cells were polygonal or epithelioid with eosinophilic cytoplasm, arranged in a nest, trabecular, or organoid pattern were and diagnosed as thyroid follicular adenoma. However, in postoperative immunohistochemistry, these were diagnosed as thyroid PGL. The postoperative recovery was uneventful. The patient showed no signs of tumor recurrence or metastasis until 16 months of follow-up. Herein, we summarize the characteristic features of thyroid PGL based on frozen section analysis. In the appropriate clinical context, its proper use as diagnostic and differential diagnostic management strategies is recommended.

The hybrid Ice Protection System combining thermoelectric and superhydrophobic coating is efficient and benefits from low-energy consumption. In order to explore the application details of superhydrophobic coating, this paper investigated the sensitivities of the Ice Protection System parameters including the range of the superhydrophobic coating, heating range and power to icing environmental parameters. In this paper, an icing wind tunnel test was adopted to study the performance of this Ice Protection System under different icing conditions, as well as the influence of the superhydrophobic coating range, heating range and power variation on ice protection. The results showed that the superhydrophobic coating is effective only when it covers the droplet impingement area, with the heating power requirement emerging as a critical design consideration that is extremely sensitive to environmental temperature changes. Additionally, median volumetric diameter determines the protection area to be protected, while liquid water content variation has little effect on the designed Ice Protection System in contrast.

Abstract WW domain binding protein-2 (WBP2) can function as a Yes-associated protein/transcriptional co-activator with PDZ-binding motif (YAP/TAZ) co-activator and has a crucial role in promoting breast cancer progression. However, the expression and potential molecular mechanisms of WBP2 in the context of lung cancer are not fully understood. We determined that WBP2 was highly expressed in lung cancer specimens and cell lines and that this expression was closely related to the advanced pTNM stage, lymph node metastasis, and poor prognosis of patients. In addition, gain- and loss-of-function experiments revealed that WBP2 could significantly promote the proliferation and invasion of lung cancer cells both in vivo and in vitro. To elucidate the underlying molecular mechanism, we determined that wild-type WBP2 could competitively bind to the WW domain of WWC3 (WW and C2 domain-containing-3) with LATS1 (Large tumor suppressor-1) through its PPxY motifs, thus inhibiting the formation of the WWC3-LATS1 complex, reducing the phosphorylation level of LATS1, suppressing the activity of the Hippo pathway, and ultimately promoting YAP nuclear translocation. Therefore, from the aspect of upstream molecules of Hippo signaling, WBP2 promotes the malignant phenotype of lung cancer cells in a unique manner that is not directly dependent upon YAP, thus providing a corresponding experimental basis for the development of targeted therapeutic drugs for lung cancer.

Fabricating and developing superhydrophobic anti-icing surfaces have been a research hotspot for eliminating undesired icing issues. Among various fabricating strategies, ultrafast laser micro-nano fabrication is regarded as a greatly promising technique owing to its advantages of high geometric accuracy, highly flexible microstructure or dimension availability, no contact, and no material limitation. A number of diverse micro-nanostructured superhydrophobic surfaces have been developed by ultrafast lasers and demonstrated extraordinary anti-icing properties. They are collectively known as ultrafast laser-fabricated superhydrophobic anti-icing surfaces (ULSASs). In this article, we reviewed the recent advances in ULSASs from micro-nano structure fabricating to anti-icing performances and to potential applications. The surface wettability and mechanisms of ultrafast laser micro-nano fabrication are first introduced, showing the strong ability of ultrafast laser for fabricating superhydrophobic surfaces. Then the deepened understanding of the relationship between superhydrophobicity and icephobicity is discussed in detail, including Cassie–Baxter stability, surface durability and environmental adaptability. Eventually, the passive anti-icing technique, the passive/active combined anti-icing technique and their practical applications are presented together with current challenges and future prospects.

Ice crystals are one of the important factors causing aircraft icing, and icing prediction is a major problem in the aviation field. The calculation of ice crystal trajectory is a precondition of the accurate simulation of ice accretion. In this paper, an ice crystal trajectory simulation method based on the Lagrangian method is proposed, and the effects of various parameters on the calculation results are discussed. Control equations of the ice crystal motion trajectory were established, and the solution methods of the equations are given. The method was used to calculate the ice crystal motion characteristics under various conditions, and the calculation results were compared with experimental results and reference results, to verify the correctness of the method. The effects of different particle densities, drag coefficient models, ice crystal diameters, inflow velocities, and angles of attack on the ice crystal collection coefficient were studied. The results showed that the smaller the particle density, the smaller the collection coefficient; the collection coefficient increases with the increase of ice crystal diameter and inflow velocity.

We previously found that inhibition of p66Shc confers protection against hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation during liver fibrosis. However, the effect of p66Shc on HSC proliferation, as well as the mechanism by which p66Shc is modulated, remains unknown. Here, we elucidated the effect of p66Shc on HSC proliferation and evaluated microRNA (miRNA)-p66Shc-mediated reactive oxidative species (ROS) generation in liver fibrosis. An in vivo model of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced liver fibrosis in rats and an LX-2 cell model were developed. p66Shc expression was significantly upregulated in rats with CCl4-induced liver fibrosis and in human fibrotic livers. Additionally, p66Shc knockdown in vitro attenuated mitochondrial ROS generation and HSC proliferation. Interestingly, p66Shc promoted HSC proliferation via β-catenin dephosphorylation in vitro. MicroRNA (miR)-203a-3p, which was identified by microarray and bioinformatics analyses, directly inhibited p66Shc translation and attenuated HSC proliferation in vitro. Importantly, p66Shc was found to play an indispensable role in the protective effect of miR-203a-3p. Furthermore, carnosic acid (CA), the major antioxidant compound extracted from rosemary leaves, protected against CCl4-induced liver fibrosis through the miR-203a-3p/p66Shc axis. Collectively, these results suggest that p66Shc, which is directly suppressed by miR-203a-3p, is a key regulator of liver fibrosis. This finding may lead to the development of therapeutic targets for liver fibrosis.

Background: Chemoresistance is a major barrier to the treatment of human cancers. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are implicated in drug resistance in cancers, including gastric cancer (GC). In this study, we aimed to explore the functions of circRNA Armadillo Repeat gene deleted in Velo-Cardio-Facial syndrome (circARVCF) in cisplatin (DDP) resistance in GC.Methods: The expression of circARVCF, microRNA-1205 (miR-1205) and fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) was detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), western blot assay or immunohistochemistry (IHC) assay. Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay and colony formation assay were performed to evaluate DDP resistance and cell colony formation ability. Transwell assay was conducted to assess cell migration and invasion. Flow cytometry analysis was done to analyze cell apoptosis. Dual-luciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay were manipulated to analyze the relationships of circARVCF, miR-1205 and FGFR1. Murine xenograft model was constructed to explore DDP resistance in vivo.Results: CircARVCF level was increased in DDP-resistant GC tissues and cells. CircARVCF silencing inhibited DDP resistance, colony formation and metastasis and induced apoptosis in DDP-resistant GC cells. CircARVCF directly interacted with miR-1205 and miR-1205 inhibition reversed circARVCF silencing-mediated effect on DDP resistance in DDP-resistant GC cells. FGFR1 served as the target gene of miR-1205. MiR-1205 overexpression restrained the resistance of DDP-resistant GC cells to DDP, but FGFR1 elevation abated the effect. In addition, circARVCF knockdown repressed DDP resistance in vivo.Conclusion: CircARVCF enhanced DDP resistance in GC by elevating FGFR1 through sponging miR-1205.

Many thermal resources are not reasonably used in the chemical industry’s production process. To recover the waste heat from organic waste residue-calcium carbonate (CaCO3), which is added to inhibit hydrogen production, an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system is applied in this research. An ORC system can reuse the low-temperature waste heat that is not fully utilized. In this study, the mathematical model of the biomass ORC power generation system is constructed. Five organic working fluids, R11, R113, R123, R141b, and R245fa, were selected from the physical characteristics and safety of working fluids. The system application case is the low-temperature heat absorption in a chemical industry’s production process. The system is simulated by Aspen Plus V11 software, so as to study and analyze the influence of different working fluids and working conditions on the system performance and to obtain the preferred working fluids under different working conditions. At the same time, the economic evaluation and entropy method of the system are evaluated by using the investment profit rate PRI from different angles. It can be found that R11 and R141b have advantages, but R11 does not have advantages in environmental aspects. Through research, it is found that it is difficult to have a working fluid that can adapt to the biomass ORC power generation system under any working conditions. This paper can provide a basis for the subsequent research and selection of working fluids in the biomass ORC system.

For centuries, human artists have been scaling images by hand, sketching with varying levels of detail depending on the demands. Image scaling is a fundamental image operation and exists for various devices including mobile phones and computers. It has great commercial values and has attracted great efforts in research. In this article, we suggest a stretch-shrink based framework for image scaling which imitates the work of a human artist. This can be done by firstly representing the image with line segments (sketches) and then stretching or shrinking the length of the representing segments under proper ratios to achieve the desired scaling. Through extensive experiments, this framework exhibits the prominent ability to achieve high quality scaled images efficiently with less storage consumption.

The icing phenomenon seriously threatens flight safety, and, therefore, the aircraft needs to be equipped with an icing protection system. Icing may still occur when the anti-icing system is in operation when the protection range or protection power is too small. Given this state, the ice shapes of the airfoil under local thermal protection states are studied in this paper. A numerical simulation method for icing considering water film flow is demonstrated. The solution methods for the governing equations and convective heat transfer coefficient are given. The calculation results were compared with experimental data and a LEWICE calculation to verify the validity of the method. Different protection ranges and protection powers were designed, and the ice shapes under different conditions were simulated. The calculation results show that when the protection range is large, but the protection power is low, icing will still occur in the protection range. Alternatively, when the protection range is small, icing may form outside the protection area. When the combination of protection range and protection power is inappropriate, the critical ice ridge phenomenon will occur. Ice ridges cause the degradation of aerodynamic characteristics and are more dangerous than icing.

Background: Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced mitochondrial oxidative damage is critical to intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, and PRDX3 is an efficient H2O2 scavenger that protects cells from mitochondrial oxidative damage and apoptosis. However, the function of PRDX3 in intestinal I/R injury is unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the precise mechanism underlying the involvement of PRDX3 in intestinal I/R injury. Methods: An intestinal I/R model was established in mice with superior mesenteric artery occlusion, and Caco-2 cells were subjected to hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) for the in vivo simulation of I/R. Results: PRDX3 expression was decreased during intestinal I/R injury, and PRDX3 overexpression significantly attenuated H/R-induced mitochondrial oxidative damage and apoptosis in Caco-2 cells. The level of acetylated PRDX3 was clearly increased both in vivo and in vitro. The inhibition of SIRTs by nicotinamide (NAM) increased the level of acetylated PRDX3 and impaired the antioxidative activity of PRDX3. Furthermore, NAM did not increase the acetylation of PRDX3 in sirtuin-3 (SIRT3)-knockdown Caco-2 cells. Importantly, PRDX3 acetylation was increased in mice lacking SIRT3, and this effect was accompanied by serious mitochondrial oxidative damage, apoptosis and remote organ damage after intestinal I/R injury. We screened potential sites of PRDX3 acetylation in the previously reported acetylproteome through immunoprecipitation (IP) experiments and found that SIRT3 deacetylates K253 on PRDX3 in Caco-2 cells. Furthermore, PRDX3 with the lysine residue K253 mutated to arginine (K253R) increased its dimerization in Caco-2 cells after subjected to 12 h hypoxia and followed 4 h reoxygenation. Caco-2 cells transfected with the K253R plasmid exhibited notably less mitochondrial damage and apoptosis, and transfection of the K253Q plasmid abolished the protective effect of PRDX3 overexpression. Analysis of ischemic intestines from clinical patients further verified the correlation between SIRT3 and PRDX3. Conclusions: PRDX3 is a key protective factor for intestinal I/R injury, and SIRT3-mediated PRDX3 deacetylation can alleviate intestinal I/R-induced mitochondrial oxidative damage and apoptosis. This paper studies the consensus problem for the heterogeneous multiagent systems. The systems considered are assumed to consist of second-order agents and third-order agents. Both the fixed topology and the stochastic switching topology are considered. We first convert the heterogeneous multiagent systems into the equivalent error systems. Then, we analyze the consensus problem of the multiagent systems by analyzing the stability problem of the error systems. A sufficient condition for consensus of heterogeneous multiagent systems is obtained based on algebraic graph theory and linear system theory for the case of fixed topology. A necessary and sufficient condition for mean-square consensus of multiagent systems is obtained for the case of switching topology. Simulation examples are given to show the effectiveness of the obtained results.

Icing phenomena are one of the hot issues in the aviation field, which has attracted the attention of many manufacturers. The physical process of water film flow determines the position and amount of icing. In this paper, the flow process of water film on a rough surface is studied. An experimental platform was built in a wind tunnel, and the digital image processing (DIP) technology was used to measure the water film flow. The water film flow under different roughness conditions of the plate was obtained in the experiments. The correction model of interfacial shear coefficient is established, and the influence of roughness on water film flow is deduced. The relationship obtained in this paper can provide data support for the study of gas-water coupled flows on rough surfaces.

Aircraft icing presents a serious threat to the aerodynamic performance and safety of aircraft. The numerical simulation method for the accurate prediction of icing shape is an important method to evaluate icing hazards and develop aircraft icing protection systems. Referring to the phase-field method, a new ice accretion mathematical model is developed to predict the ice shape. The mass fraction of ice in the mixture is selected as the phase parameter, and the phase equation is established with a freezing coefficient. Meanwhile, the mixture thickness and temperature are determined by combining mass conservation and energy balance. Ice accretions are simulated under typical ice conditions, including rime ice, glaze ice and mixed ice, and the ice shape and its characteristics are analyzed and compared with those provided by experiments and LEWICE. The results show that the phase-field ice accretion model can predict the ice shape under different icing conditions, especially reflecting some main characteristics of glaze ice.

Articulated wheel loaders that travel on unstructured roads experience severe vibration and poor stability. Introducing suspended axles on wheel loaders, which are traditionally constructed without wheel suspension, is desirable for ride comfort. This study mainly focuses on the parameter optimization of the hydropneumatic suspension to obtain the minimum root mean square of vertical accelerations under different driving conditions, thereby improving the ride comfort of the wheel loader. The multibody model of the wheel loader with hydropneumatic suspension was developed by RecurDyn in co-simulation with MATLAB/Simulink. The vertical acceleration root mean square at the seat position was analyzed when the wheel loader was traveling on class C, D, and E roads with different travel speeds. The surrogate model of the vertical acceleration root mean square with respect to the suspension parameters was established based on kriging method. The established surrogate model was then optimized using particle swarm optimization algorithm. The optimization results of the hydropneumatic suspension parameters of the wheel loader under different road excitations and driving speeds were obtained. Simulation and optimization results show that a well-designed hydropneumatic suspension system can significantly improve wheel loader performance in reducing the vertical acceleration at the seat position compared to a suspension system without optimization.

New shoots (including newly formed leaves and twigs) and fruits of citrus tree are key organs for present yield formation and flower differentiation in the next season, but the relationship between yield fluctuation and accumulations of major nutrients in new shoots and fruits of citrus tree is still unclear. Thus, to quantify the biomass and mineral nutrient accumulation in new shoots and fruits of citrus trees under varied yield levels has essential significance for rational fertilization and pruning management for citrus orchards. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to investigate the accumulation of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg), and the distribution of biomass in new shoots and fruits of citrus trees under low, medium and high-yield levels in each of eight orchards located in Chongqing, China. The results showed that substantial variation of fruit yield was observed in all eight orchards with an average yield of 15.0 (low), 30.9 (medium) and 60.1 (high) kg/plant. The averaged biomass of new shoots ranged from 1.59 to 2.51 kg/plant, which was significantly and positively correlated with fruit yield. Nutrient accumulation in leaves was generally highest among new organs, while more than half of N (52.70–71.4%), P (66.5–80.4%) and K (68.9–85.9%) accumulated in fruit. Fruit yields closely correlated with total amounts of major nutrients in new shoots. Furthermore, the nutrient requirements per unit of newly developed shoots and fruits were gradually decreased with increased yield, but the removed nutrients per ton of fresh fruit were almost stable, indicating that more nutrients were distributed into fruit tissues. Taken together, these findings are valuable for optimizing nutrient and pruning management in citrus orchards in China and other similar countries.

Estimating balanced nutrient requirements for a watermelon plantation is essential to increase its fruit yield and nutrient use efficiency. This is vital for China, which produces 60% of world’s watermelons with excessive fertilizer application. Therefore, datasets between 2000 and 2019 from field experiments in major watermelon producing regions across China were collected to assess relationships between fruit yield and nutrient uptake, and to estimate nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) requirements for a target yield using a modified Quantitative Evaluation of the Fertility of Tropical Soils (QUEFTS) model. The results showed that the QUEFTS model predicted a linear increase in fruit yield to 60–70% of the total potential yield when balanced amounts of N, P, and K nutrients were absorbed. To produce 1000 kg of watermelon, 2.11 kg N, 0.27 kg P, and 2.69 kg K were required in shoot, and the corresponding internal efficiencies (IE) were 475, 3682, and 372 kg fruit per kg of N, P, and K, respectively. The modified QUEFTS model also simulated a balanced N, P, and K removal by fruit (accounting for 50.9%, 58.2%, and 66.4% of these nutrient accumulations in shoots, respectively). Field validation experiments further verified that the modified QUEFTS model could be used for estimating balanced nutrient requirements. Results from this study can provide practical guidance on fertilizer recommendations for improving fruit yield while preventing excessive or deficient nutrient supplies in China’s watermelon plantations.

Vehicles are developing in the direction of energy-saving and electrification. suspension has been widely developed in the field of vehicles as a key component. Traditional hydraulic energy-supply suspensions dissipate vibration energy as waste heat to suppress vibration. This part of the energy is mainly generated by the vehicle engine. In order to effectively utilize the energy of this part, the energy-regenerative suspension with energy recovery converts the vibrational energy into electrical energy as the vehicle’s energy supply equipment. This article reviews the hydraulically powered suspension of vehicles with energy recovery. The importance of such suspension in vehicle energy recovery is analyzed. The main categories of energy-regenerative suspension are illustrated from different energy recovery methods, and the research status of hydraulic energy-regenerative suspension is comprehensively analyzed. Important factors that affect the shock-absorbing and regenerative characteristics of the suspension system are studied. In addition, some unresolved challenges are also proposed, which provides a reference value for the development of energy-regenerative suspension systems for hybrid new energy vehicles

Fibrosis reflects a progression to liver cancer or cirrhosis of the liver. Recent studies have shown that high-mobility group box-1 (HMGB1) plays a major role in hepatic injury and fibrosis. Carnosic acid (CA), a compound extracted from rosemary, has been reported to alleviate alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver injury. CA can also alleviate renal fibrosis. We hypothesized that CA might exert anti-liver fibrosis properties through an HMGB1-related pathway, and the results of the present study showed that CA treatment significantly protected against hepatic fibrosis in a bile duct ligation (BDL) rat model. CA reduced the liver expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) and collagen 1 (Col-1). Importantly, we found that CA ameliorated the increase in HMGB1 and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) caused by BDL, and inhibited NF-κB p65 nuclear translocation in fibrotic livers. In vitro, CA inhibited LX2 cell activation by inhibiting HMGB1/TLR4 signaling pathway. Furthermore, miR-29b-3p decreased HMGB1 expression, and a dual-luciferase assay validated these results. Moreover, CA down-regulated HMGB1 and inhibited LX2 cell activation, and these effects were significantly counteracted by antago-miR-29b-3p, indicating that the CA-mediated inhibition of HMGB1 expression might be miR-29b-3p dependent. Collectively, the results demonstrate that a miR-29b-3p/HMGB1/TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway, which can be modulated by CA, is important in liver fibrosis, and indicate that CA might be a prospective therapeutic drug for liver fibrosis.

A hybrid single cavity (HSC) linac, combined with radio frequency quadrupole and drift tube structure in a single interdigital-H cavity, operates with high rf power as a prototype injector for cancer therapy synchrotron. The HSC adopts a direct plasma injection scheme (DPIS) with a laser ion source. The input beam current of the HSC is designed to be 20 mA C^{6+} ions. According to simulations, the HSC can accelerate a 6-mA C^{6+} beam which meets the requirement of the particle number for cancer therapy (10^{8∼9} ions/pulse). The HSC injector with DPIS makes the existing multiturn injection system and stripping system unnecessary; what is more, it can also bring down the size of the beam pipe in existing synchrotron magnets, which can reduce the whole cost of the synchrotron. Details of the field measurements of the HSC linac and results of the high power test are reported in this paper.
