Luminescence metal–organic materials (MOMs) are widely used as probes for detection. However, most of such probes are based on fluorescence and work in either turn‐off or turn‐on mode. In contrast, long‐lived (>10 ms) probes (LLPs) with recovery response to analyte are quite rare. Herein “solvation complex” strategy is used to prepare two new afterglow complexes with multiple coordinated solvents, trans‐complex 1 with both delayed fluorescence (DF) and room temperature phosphorescence (RTP), and cis‐complex 2 with RTP. Remarkably, they can serve as selective and recovery LLPs for l‐Arginine detection, with limit of detection down to 1.0 × 10−7 M. In addition, heating/fumigation can induce reversible arousal/silence of their afterglow, while H2O/DMSO vapor fumigation causes reversible crystalline‐to‐crystalline transformation between them. Detailed mechanism studies reveal that the change in coordinated solvent, including loss/acquisition, exchange, or replacement, plays a key role in such afterglow multi‐stimuli‐responsive properties. Soft photonic liquid crystals with electrically responsive properties are among the most promising intelligent materials for optoelectronic applications. This work demonstrates an ultra-fast electrically tunable dual-mode laser by introducing dye-doped chiral liquid crystals. Due to the strong chirality of the chiral liquid crystal, two self-assembled structures form depending on the temperatures. One is the chiral nematic phase (N*) with a 1D helical structure; the other is the blue phases (BPs) with 3D cubic structures. By tuning the strength of an electric field, the dye-doped chiral liquid crystals are operated in two different modes: a band-edge laser and a random laser. In the band-edge mode, due to the electrostriction effect of the BPs, the electric-tuning range of the laser emission is from 537 to 645 nm, and the switching times are less than 20 ms. When the electric field goes beyond a threshold value to force the occurrence of the BPs-chiral-nematic transition, the band-edge laser with elliptical polarization emission is switched to a random laser with an immediate unpolarization emission (0.9 ms). Furthermore, the reversibility of the effects mentioned above points out the potential applications of self-assembled soft photonic materials, spanning from solid-state lighting to bio-imaging. This study investigates the effect of Cu doping on the magnetic properties of MnBi alloy at sub-ambient temperatures. The Curie temperatures (Tc) were observed at 175.2 and 161.6 K for Mn52Bi45Cu3 and Mn51Bi45Cu4 alloys, respectively. The Mn55Bi45 sample demonstrates a notable saturation magnetization (Ms) of 72 emu/g, reaching 90% of the theoretical value, indicating the successful synthesis of high-purity ferromagnetic low-temperature phase MnBi. Compared to Mn55Bi45, all Cu-doped samples exhibit higher coercivity (Hc) within the temperature range of 10–200 K. In particular, the sample with 4 at. % Cu exhibits an Hc of 7.4 kOe at 10 K, which is 37 times higher than that of the MnBi sample (0.2 kOe), and it remains significantly higher than that of the 0–3 at. % Cu-doped samples, even at 200 K. The observation-reanalysis difference method (OMR) and wind profile fitting method were used to analyze the influence urbanization has on the near-surface wind speed in Shanghai during tropical cyclone events. The data used include daily wind speed data from the Shanghai Meteorological Observatory Station collected from 1991 to 2020, hourly wind speed data from 100 m high wind towers from 2017 to 2019, and reanalysis data that covered the same period. The results indicated that during tropical cyclone occurrence, the wind speed of the OMR in the central urban region was significantly lower than that in the suburban area, and the OMR declined more obviously over the year, down to -8 m/s in 2020. Urbanization leads to the increase of average wind weakening rate to be higher than the maximum wind weakening rate, causing the maximum weakening rate of the central urban region to the average wind over 80%, while maximum wind speed was less than 80%. The weakening rate of both the average and maximum wind speeds during tropical cyclone impacts is greater than the rate that the annual average wind speed was reduced. A logarithmic variation was visible in the wind profile of the island station during tropical cyclone occurrence, with an average friction velocity U* of 0.9389 m/s and an average rough length Z0 of 0.4915 m. The wind speed during tropical cyclone events was higher than the three-year average wind speed within each layer. The suburban stations show a linear variation, and every hundred meters of height results in an increase of 5-6 m/s in the wind speed change rate. Photosensitive resin is a kind of polymer gel material. Due to its excellent UV curing performance, it is widely used in the emerging 3D printing industry. This article combines terahertz technology with microfluidic chip technology to study the terahertz spectral characteristics of liquid and solid photosensitive resins under different electric fields. In the experiment, it was found that an electric field can also cause polymerization of photosensitive resin monomers to form cross-linked polymers, increasing their curing degree. For solid photosensitive resins, the orientation of polymer molecules is enhanced under an electric field, and the molecular arrangement changes from a disordered state to an ordered state. Meanwhile, it was found that both liquid and solid photosensitive resins subjected to electric fields exhibit absorption coefficients below zero within a very small frequency range. We explain this from two aspects: energy and the Fabry Pérot effect. This article uses terahertz spectra to study the curing and structural changes in photosensitive resins under an electric field, laying a foundation for further improving 3D printing technology. This article concentrates on the challenging adaptive tracking problem of multi‐input and multi‐output (MIMO) nonlinear systems with unknown nonlinear dynamics, for which a novel optimization‐based data‐driven adaptive control (ODDAC) equipped with an extended dynamic linearization method is developed. Through considering MIMO nonlinear systems in the fully‐actuated case and over‐actuated case separately, the ODDAC is proposed consisting of a parameter updating algorithm and an adaptive control law. A new design of parameter updating algorithm is presented such that the estimation can be guaranteed to be bounded by a strict contraction process. By leveraging properties of the nonnegative matrix, a grouping‐based contraction mapping (GCM) analysis method is proposed for the convergence of tracking error. Notably, the GCM does not require the contraction mapping condition to hold at all time instants. A novel detection method, known as RGB‐tracking, was utilized to quantify the relative color changes in reactants/products during the dyeing of a solution of indigo as a model compound. The RGB‐tracking system consists of a digital camera, a light source, a data acquisition device, a LabVIEW program, and its built‐in function (Machine Vision). For the reduction of indigo, two types of reagents were employed: sodium dithionite (Na2S2O4) for the chemical redox process and yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) for the biological fermentation process. As a result, in the case of chemical redox during the reduction of the indigo solution, the progress of the reaction can be described by a color change, that is, the curves of R‐ and G‐pixels, respectively. When the curve for the G‐pixels began to increase, this indicated that leuco‐indigo is being formed. A dramatic increase in the R‐curve indicates that the amount of leuco‐indigo has exceeded than that of indigo itself and that the reaction will gradually reach equilibrium. In contrast to this, additional complex behavior was observed in the case of biological fermentation. When the RGB‐tracking curves for the R‐ and G‐pixels reach their maximum values, this indicates that the concentration of leuco‐indigo was significantly higher than that of indigo itself. Response surface models (RSMs) are a new trend in modern anesthesia. RSMs have demonstrated significant applicability in the field of anesthesia. However, the comparative analysis between RSMs and logistic regression (LR) in different surgeries remains relatively limited in the current literature. We hypothesized that using a total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) technique with the response surface model (RSM) and logistic regression (LR) would predict the emergence from anesthesia in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracotomy surgery (VATS). This study aimed to prove that LR, like the RSM, can be used to improve patient safety and achieve enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). This was a prospective, observational study with data reanalysis. Twenty-nine patients (American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class II and III) who underwent VATS for elective pulmonary or mediastinal surgery under TIVA were enrolled. We monitored the emergence from anesthesia, and the precise time point of regained response (RR) was noted. The influence of varying concentrations was examined and incorporated into both the RSM and LR. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve area for Greco and LR models was 0.979 (confidence interval: 0.987 to 0.990) and 0.989 (confidence interval: 0.989 to 0.990), respectively. The two models had no significant differences in predicting the probability of regaining response. In conclusion, the LR model was effective and can be applied to patients undergoing VATS or other procedures of similar modalities. Furthermore, the RSM is significantly more sophisticated and has an accuracy similar to that of the LR model; however, the LR model is more accessible. Therefore, the LR model is a simpler tool for predicting arousal in patients undergoing VATS under TIVA with Remifentanil and Propofol. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Only a few studies have investigated the gap range of motion (gROM) in cervical myelopathy or deformity caused by ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL). The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation between the individual gROM and the postoperative clinical outcomes of patients with OPLL. Consecutive patients of cervical myelopathy caused by OPLL were analyzed retrospectively. The clinical outcomes were evaluated using Visual Analogue Scale scores of the neck and arm pain and the Japanese Orthopaedic Association scores. Radiologic measurements included flexion ROM (fROM), which was defined as the difference of cervical lordosis in flexion and neutral positions, extension ROM (eROM), defined as the difference between neutral and extension positions, and gROM, defined as the difference between fROM and eROM. Patients were grouped by the values of gROM, and comparisons of all outcomes were made between the groups. A total of 42 patients underwent surgery. The patients with greater gROM did not differ from those with smaller gROM by demographic characteristics. During follow-up (mean 45.8 months), both groups had similar improvements, but the C5 palsy rates were higher in the greater gROM group than in the smaller gROM group (71% and 22%, P < 0.05). Simultaneous circumferential decompression and fixation is an effective surgical option for patients with cervical myelopathy caused by OPLL. A higher rate of postoperative C5 palsy was observed in the patients with greater gROMs after surgery, although all patients presented with similar clinical improvements. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Kimura's disease (KD) is an immune‐mediated disorder which mainly affects Asian men. It appears as head and neck subcutaneous masses, with inflammatory infiltrate and elevated serum immunoglobulin E levels. The clinical presentation of KD resembles that of various diseases. Here, we report the case of a 30‐year‐old Filipino man with KD mimicking cavernous hemangioma who was treated by surgery. Careful survey for possible KD cases is crucial. The purpose of the experiment was to study the effect of grape seed proanthocyanidins on the growth performance, slaughter performance, meat quality and antioxidant performance of Hainan black goats. Forty healthy castrated male lambs of Hainan black goats were randomly divided into two groups with 20 replicates per group and one goat per replicate. The goats in the control group were fed a basic diet, while the goats in the experimental group were fed a basic diet added with 20 mg/kg BW grape seed proanthocyanidins. The pre-feeding period was 7 days, and the formal trial lasted for 90 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the final body weight, average daily gain, meat weight, pH24 h value, cooked meat rate, muscle redness, serum T-AOC, T-SOD, GSH-Px and CAT activity of goats in the experimental group were significantly increased (P<0.05). The feed weight ratio, dripping loss, shear force and serum MDA content of the experimental group were significantly decreased (P<0.05). The content of muscle crude protein in the experimental group was significantly increased (P<0.01). The experiment indicates that the grape seed proanthocyanidins can effectively improve the growth performance, slaughtering performance and serum antioxidant performance of Hainan black goats, and can improve the meat quality. A new and unified approach is proposed toward accurately analyzing overall elastoplastic responses of axially loaded bars and finite bending beams until failure. Results are presented for various constituent materials such as metals, reinforced concretes and reinforced composites, etc. Novelties in three respects are incorporated: (a) new uniaxial stress–strain functions are first presented in explicit forms for the purpose of accurately characterizing non-symmetric tensile and compressive behaviors of axially loaded bars from hardening to softening; (b) explicit solutions to both the varying neutral axis and the flexural moment of finite bending beams are then obtained directly in terms of these two uniaxial functions; and, hence, (c) the complex bending problem of various beams until failure is in a unified manner reduced to a simple issue of fitting two uniaxial functions to tension and compression data from uniaxial testing, thus bypassing the analytical and numerical complexity of various existing approaches. Numerical examples of model predictions are provided for typical constituent materials, including aluminium, meso-scopic heterogeneous concrete and ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete with reinforcing rebars. The purpose of this study was to explore the potential of capture systems in improving high school students' dancing skills through the use of experimental design. Background: Epidural analgesia is a common technique for managing perioperative and obstetric pain. Patients with cancer who cannot tolerate opioids or not responding to conventional treatment may benefit from epidural analgesia. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to analyze the efficacy and safety of epidural analgesia in patients with intractable cancer pain. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials to identify studies on patients with cancer who received epidural analgesia. We assessed the quality of all included studies using the risk‐of‐bias tool or Newcastle‐Ottawa scale. The primary outcome was pain relief after epidural analgesia, and the secondary outcome was quality of life, analgesic consumption, and adverse events. The studies were grouped based on the medications used for epidural analgesia. A descriptive synthesis was performed following the Synthesis Without Meta‐analysis reporting guideline. Results: Our systematic review included nine randomized controlled trials (n = 340) and 15 observational studies (n = 926). Two randomized controlled trials suggested that epidural opioids were not superior to systemic opioids in relieving pain. Epidural opioids combined with local anesthetics or adjuvants, including calcitonin, clonidine, ketamine, neostigmine, methadone, and dexamethasone, offered better analgesic effects. No significant difference in pain relief between an intermittent bolus and a continuous infusion of epidural morphine was observed. Epidural opioids had more analgesic effects on nociceptive pain than neuropathic pain. The methods used to evaluate the quality of life and the corresponding results were heterogeneous among studies. Six observational studies demonstrated that some patients could have decreased opioid consumption after epidural analgesia. Adverse events, including complications and drug‐related side effects, were reported in 23 studies. Five serious complications, such as epidural abscess and hematoma, required surgical management. The heterogeneity and methodological limitations of the studies hindered meta‐analysis and evidence‐level determination. Conclusion: Coadministration of epidural opioids, local anesthetics, and adjuvants may provide better pain relief for intractable cancer pain. However, we must assess the patients to ensure that the benefits outweigh the risks before epidural analgesia. Therefore, further high‐quality studies are required. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE To compare the effect of volume and solution on transit time and fluorescence intensity (FI) using near-infrared fluorescence imaging (NIRF) in a simulated tumor model in cats. Secondarily, to describe SLN mapping with indocyanine green (ICG) NIRF and report any adverse effects of intradermally injected ICG in cats. ANIMALS 7 healthy purpose-bred domestic shorthaired male cats. METHODS Cats were randomly divided into 2 groups (ICG or ICG + methylene blue [MB]). Transit time and FI were determined for 1 or 2 mL solutions injected intradermally in 4 quadrants around a simulated tumor. Following massage, fluorescence intensity was quantified by calculating the corrected total ROI fluorescence using ImageJ software. Cats were monitored for adverse effects up to 4 weeks post-injection. RESULTS A larger solution volume had decreased transit times to the SLN (P = .001). There was no significant difference in transit times between ICG and ICG-MB. ICG demonstrated a greater FI (P = .001) in the SLN compared to ICG-MB. Methylene blue did not percutaneously fluoresce under NIRF. The volume of the solution did not significantly affect FI. No adverse reactions were reported. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Increased volume of ICG may aid in rapid percutaneous lymphatic tracking from tumor to SLN. Indocyanine green alone may be preferred over ICG-MB for greater visualization of the SLN. Intradermal injections of ICG and ICG-MB were well-tolerated in healthy cats with no significant complications. We perform detailed potential energy surface explorations of BeM(CO)3− (M = Co, Rh, Ir) and BeM(CO)3 (M = Ni, Pd, Pt) using both single-reference and multireference-based methods. The present results at the CASPT2(12,12)/def2-QZVPD//M06-D3/def2-TZVPPD level reveal that the global minimum of BeM(CO)3− (M = Co, Rh, Ir) and BePt(CO)3 is a C3v symmetric structure with an 1A1 electronic state, where Be is located in a terminal position bonded to M along the center axis. For other cases, the C3v symmetric structure is a low-lying local minimum. Although the present complexes are isoelectronic with the recently reported BFe(CO)3− complex having a B–Fe quadruple bond, radial orbital-energy slope (ROS) analysis reveals that the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) in the title complexes is slightly antibonding in nature, which bars a quadruple bonding assignment. Similar weak antibonding nature of HOMO in the previously reported BeM(CO)4 (M = Ru, Os) complexes is also noted in ROS analysis. The bonding analysis through energy decomposition analysis in combination with the natural orbital for chemical valence shows that the bonding between Be and M(CO)3q (q = −1 for M = Co, Rh, Ir and q = 0 for M = Ni, Pd, Pt) can be best described as Be in the ground state (1S) interacting with M(CO)30/− via dative bonds. The Be(spσ) → M(CO)3q σ-donation and the complementary Be(spσ) ← M(CO)3q σ-back donation make the overall σ bond, which is accompanied by two weak Be(pπ) ← M(CO)3q π-bonds. OBJECTIVE: To retrospectively evaluate complications reported in dogs and cats with a closed suction subcutaneous drain that were either managed completely in hospital (Group ND) or discharged home for ongoing outpatient care (Group D). ANIMALS: 101 client-owned animals involving 94 dogs and 7 cats with a subcutaneous closed suction drain placed during a surgical procedure. PROCEDURES: Electronic medical records (January 2014 to December 2022) were reviewed. Signalment, reason for drain placement, surgical procedure, location and duration of drain placement, drain discharge status, antimicrobial usage, culture and sensitivity results, and intraoperative and postoperative complications were recorded. Associations among variables were evaluated. RESULTS: There were 77 animals in Group D and 24 animals in Group ND. Majority (n = 21/26) of complications were classified as minor and were all from Group D. Length of hospitalization in Group D (1 day) was significantly shorter than Group ND (3.25 days). Duration of drain placement was significantly longer in Group D (5.6 days) than Group ND (3.1 days). There were no associations between drain location, drain duration, or surgical site contamination with risk of complications. CLINICAL relevance: There is a higher risk of complications associated with discharging an animal from hospital (37%) with a subcutaneous closed suction drain than removing it prior to discharge (4%). These complications, however, were primarily minor and easily managed. Discharging an otherwise stable animal to home with a subcutaneous closed suction drain may be feasible to decrease duration of hospitalization, cost to the owner, and stress for the animal. Like other countries with a high risk of female breast cancer, Malaysia has the second highest cancer death rate in South-East Asia. Breast cancer screening helps to identify cancer before the onset of symptoms and reduces the breast cancer mortality rate. Female healthcare professionals may significantly influence the public regarding breast cancer screening. This study aims to identify the knowledge of breast cancer and the practice of breast cancer screening among female healthcare professionals. A cross- sectional study was conducted among female healthcare professionals in Malaysia through convenience sampling. The questionnaire included socio-demographics, knowledge of breast cancer, and the practice of breast cancer screening. A total of 390 female healthcare professionals participated in this study. The mean age of the participants was 37.7 (SD = 9.1) years. Most participants have good knowledge (n = 378, 96.9%). A total of e participants reported that they have been practicing breast self-examination (BSE), 14.9% had undergone clinical breast examination (CBE), and 12.6% had undergone mammography. Independent sample t-test revealed a significant association between knowledge of breast cancer and the practice of breast cancer screening. Even though the knowledge of breast cancer is high among female healthcare professionals, but most do not practice breast cancer screening. Hence, there is still a need to promote the practice of BSE, CBE, and mammography among female healthcare professionals, thus influencing the public. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The uranium deposit of the Early Cretaceous Xiangshan caldera (southeast China) represents the world’s third-largest volcanogenic uranium deposit. While the hydrothermal system defines uranium mineralization in shallow volcanic-intrusive complexes, we argue that the underlying magmatic system, identified in magnetotelluric data from the Xiangshan deposit, is equally crucial in controlling the origin and migration of ore-forming fluids and driving uranium element transport. As imaged by a three-dimensional resistivity model, a volcanic conduit containing ∼4% saline fluid underlies the Xiangshan peak, interpreted to control the formation of alkali fluids that aid the early alkaline uranium mineralization. A deep-seated intrusion also imaged beneath the northwestern Xiangshan caldera likely facilitates the formation of later acidic uranium mineralization and provides the requisite heat flux. Its enhanced conductivity is attributed to graphite liberalization along grain boundaries caused by CO2-bearing volatiles upwelling or igneous carbon injection. The merged zone of the volcanic conduit and intrusion, which is located at a depth of ∼10–15 km, functions as a high-level magma chamber. It is fed episodically by low partial melting of lower-crustal rocks and may contain significant uranium concentrations. Essentially, the transport and enrichment of uranium elements are enabled by such a vertical extensive trans-crustal magmatic system, resulting in the emplacement of the shallow volcanogenic uranium deposit. The continuous growth of Li dendrites and volumetric deformation of Li severely impede the commercial application of Li metal anodes. To regulate Li stripping/plating, electrodeposition or magnetron sputtering is extensively utilized to fabricate lithiophilic‐metal deposited 3D Li hosts. However, the binding force between lithiophilic‐metal and host is weak, inevitably leading to numerous cracks/defects of lithiophilic‐surface‐layer during Li plating/stripping. Herein, a quasi‐gradient (Cu‐Cu3Sn‐Sn‐SnO2) 3D skeleton consisting of hierarchical Sn/SnO2 composite metallurgically bonded to copper foam through Cu3Sn alloy (LAD‐SSC@CF) is designed, and prepared in one‐step by a nanosecond‐pulsed‐laser‐assisted deposition strategy. The homogeneous Li nucleation sites provided by Li22Sn5 formed by the reaction of Sn/SnO2 with Li can inhibit Li dendrites growth. Meanwhile, the porous space and strong bonding of Cu3Sn layer avoid structural deterioration of anodes. Consequently, a symmetric cell based on LAD‐SSC@CF@Li exhibits an outstanding cycling stability of 1500 h at 1 mA cm−2. In particular, a full cell with LiFePO4 cathode provides good capacity retention of 81.3% at 5 C after 600 cycles. In order to study the pollution characteristics and potential ecological risks of heavy metals in soil of Xiangtan lotus planting area, the contents of Mn, Cu, As, Cd, Pb and Cr in soil and lotus seeds were analyzed in six main lotus planting areas. The comprehensive potential ecological risks of heavy metals in soil were evaluated by the potential ecological hazard index. The results showed that Cd concentration ( mean value) was higher than the risk screening value and lower than the risk control value, and other heavy metals were lower or close to the risk screening value. The ecological risks of each element from large to small were Cd, Pb, As, Cu, Cr and Mn. The average value of the comprehensive ecological hazard index of the six sites was 224. 7, which was a medium level of pollution risk. The lotus seeds corresponding to each site were also polluted by heavy metals to a certain extent, and Cd and Pb in the seeds exceeded the standard. Through the above analysis, the heavy metals in the soil of the lotus planting area presented a medium ecological risk. Aim: The Japanese government defined integrative/integrated medicine (IM) as "medical practice led by physicians, cooperating with other specialists." Therefore, the basics of comprehensive medical education should be provided in medical universities. We investigated the situation of IM with special reference to Kampo medicines in the national core curricula, national examination standards and the syllabuses for lectures published on the universities' websites. Methods: In the published documents regarding the core curriculum, national examination standards and syllabuses in the academic year 2018, we analyzed whether they include IM. Results: Four kinds of universities offered "Kampo medicine" (Japanese traditional herbal medicine) as their core curriculum. Pharmaceutical universities included "health food", and nursing universities included "alternative medicine". National examination standards for dentists and pharmacists included Kampo medicine, but those for doctors and nurses did not. In the syllabuses of medical universities, 85% included Kampo medicine, but the percentage for IMs was low. The situation was similar in dental universities. All pharmaceutical universities included Kampo medicines and health foods; other IMs were low. The number for all IMs in nursing universities was lower than half. Conclusion: Based on the definition of IM in this paper, we investigated the actual situation of IM education including Kampo in all universities. There were considerable differences between all the faculties. For medical doctor, the Kampo medicines listed in the model core curriculum that are not included in the national examination standard should be rectified. Two challenging problems are addressed in this work for the convergence analysis of iterative learning control (ILC), that is, the rigorous assumption on repetitive conditions and the severe dependence on linear or nonlinear parametric models. Consequently, a data‐based analysis method of ILC is presented for a general multi‐input multi‐output nonaffine nonlinear system in the existence of multiple nonrepetitive uncertainties in initial states, external disturbances, reference trajectories, and plant models. An extended iterative dynamic relationship is constructed to extract the linear relationship of I/O dynamics for a nonaffine nonlinear system between two different iterations. The data‐based double dynamics analysis method is developed for analyzing that the tracking error is convergent and the I/O sequence is bounded. The tracking error is shown to converge to a finite bound related to nonrepetitive uncertainties and achieve a perfect convergence if nonrepetitive uncertainties are also iteratively convergent to zero. Background: Quality of working life (QWL) is a highly important issue for nurses. Nurses with lower QWL tend to have lower job performance and intention to stay. The aim of this study was to apply a theoretical model to examine the structural relationships among overcommitment, effort-reward imbalance (ERI), safety climate, emotional labour and QWL for hospital nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional study design and a simple random sampling method were used to recruit 295 nurses in a teaching hospital and used a structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Results: Overall, the nurses' QWL was moderate. Our theoretical model showed a good model fit. Overcommintment had a significant direct positive effect on ERI (β = 0.35, p < 0.001) and indirect effects on safety climate (β = -0.149, p = 0.001), emotional labour (β = 0.105, p = 0.001) and QWL (β = -0.061, p = 0.004). Additionally, ERI not only had significant direct effects on safety climate (β = -0.42, p < 0.001), emotional labour (β = 0.30, p < 0.001) and QWL (β = -0.17, p < 0.001) but also indirectly affected QWL through safety climate (β = -0.304, p = 0.001) and emotional labour (β = -0.042, p = 0.005). Both safety climate (β = 0.72, p < 0.001) and emotional labour (β = -0.14, p = 0.003) showed significant direct effects on QWL. Our final model accounted for 72% of the variance in QWL. Conclusion: Our results highlight the necessity of improving the QWL of nurses. Policymakers and hospital administrators should develop policies and strategies that encourage nurses to exhibit an appropriate level of commitment, balance effort and reward, establish a climate of safety, and reduce emotional labour to improve the QWL of hospital nurses. During the Cold War, cultural engagements frequently occurred between Taiwan and the Philippines due to their military and geopolitical alliance in East Asia. This essay explores this cultural linkage at both the diplomatic and individual levels by examining the politics and aesthetics of the art exhibitions both countries participated in as well as the intellectual encounters among individual artists. The First Southeast Asia Art Conference and Competition, a postwar art event held in the Philippines, demonstrated Taiwan's cultural diplomacy in the Free World; it also highlighted the different figurations of colonial modernities and the emerging national identities developed in East and Southeast Asia in the postcolonial era. While the cultural linkage between Taiwan and the Philippines was a product of the geo-military strategy in the Cold War era, the translocal friendships and the artistic networks were actively maintained by the individual artists in the late Cold War years, after the Taiwan–Philippines diplomatic relation ended. This intra-regional network created an alternative trajectory of knowledge circulation that allowed Philippine leftist nationalist writings to be published in Taiwan in the latter's martial law era. The vast majority of skin cancers can be classified into two main types: melanoma and keratinocyte carcinomas. The most common keratinocyte carcinomas include basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Multiple familial syndromes have been identified that can increase the risk of developing SCC, BCC, and/or melanoma. The major syndromes include oculocutaneous albinism for SCC, basal cell nevus syndrome for BCC, familial atypical multiple mole-melanoma syndrome, and hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome for melanoma. In addition, familial syndromes that can predispose individuals to all three major skin cancers include xeroderma pigmentosum and Li–Fraumeni syndrome. This review highlights the epidemiology, risk factors, pathogenesis, and etiology of the major and minor syndromes to better identify and manage these conditions. Current investigational trials in genomic medicine are making their way in revolutionizing the clinical diagnosis of these familial syndromes for earlier preventative measures and improvement of long-term prognosis in these patients. When used in ethnomedicine, Dracocephalum moldavica L. (DML) and its bioactive extract protect against several diseases caused by inflammation and oxidative stress. However, the effect of DML on intestinal inflammation in hypertension has not been thoroughly investigated. This study focused on the effects of DML extract on intestinal inflammation in two-kidney, one clip (2K1C) rats. Male Wistar rats were divided into three groups with daily intragastric administration of either saline (control group and model group) or DML extract (treatment group, 50 mg/kg per day) for 4 weeks. In the model and treatment groups, 2K1C hypertension was induced by clipping the left renal artery. The profiles of stool microbiota, the levels of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), the integrity of the gut barrier, oxidative stress biomarkers and inflammatory factors were analyzed in rats supplemented with or without DML extract. This study revealed the alleviation of high blood pressure in 2K1C rats treated with DML extract. The DML extract attenuated gut microbiota dysbiosis in the 2K1C rats by increasing the abundance of the genus Lactobacillus and by decreasing the abundance of Papillibacter, Desulfovibrio and Anaerobiospirillum genera. Treatment with the DML extract increased the levels of SCFAs and repaired the intestinal barrier, it reduced the release of oxidative stress biomarkers and inflammatory factors and suppressed the expression of TLR4 and NF-κB mRNAs. We conclude that the DML extract may alleviate intestinal inflammation by adjusting the profile of gut microbiota and enhancing the intestinal barrier. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: Kampo medicine is traditional Japanese herbal medicine derived from ancient Chinese medicine. In the past, the Japan Kampo Medicines Manufacturers Association conducted surveys and reported on the awareness and experience of Kampo medicines among those participating in Kampo workshops as well as the local community. Here, we investigated the Japanese public's awareness and experience of using Kampo medicines through an online questionnaire. In addition, we analyzed how Kampo medicines are perceived and presented a favorable prospect for Kampo medicines. Methods: In 2020, we conducted an online survey of registered Japanese members (aged over 25 years) of a research company. Results: A total of 2060 respondents answered the questionnaire. Of these, 71% had taken Kampo medicines. Among this group, 63.5% obtained Kampo medicines through a doctor's prescription, 46.3% purchased Kampo medicines through pharmacies, drugstores, over the Internet, or by mail order, and only 11.3% had purchased Kampo medicines at Kampo specialty pharmacies. Although many people have taken Kampo medicines, they do not always have an accurate understanding of Kampo medicines as medicines. Especially in the case of Kampo medicines for prescription, people take them passively and do not have a strong awareness of Kampo medicines. In contrast, over‐the‐counter Kampo medicines are widely recognized as drugs. Conclusion: Medical personnel, manufacturers, and pharmacists need to provide accurate information about Kampo medicines. Two skeleton isomers, [CaL(H2O)(DMF)2]•DMF (1) (H2L=5‐(1,3‐dioxo‐1H‐benzo[de]isoquinolin‐2(3H)‐yl)isophthalic acid) with a 1 dimensional chain structure and [CaL(DMF)1.72]• (DMF)0.28 (2) with a 2 dimensional layer structure were synthesized. Mechanochromic luminescence studies reveal that 1 and 2 exhibit luminescent red‐shift and blue‐shift respectively under grinding stimuli. The different influence of grinding stimuli on the π⋅⋅⋅π interaction in the two structures are proposed to be the main reason for such different responses. In addition, 1 has a rare broad sensing ability for halogenated hydrocarbons and can distinguish seven halogenated hydrocarbons out of 17 solvents. 1 can also be used for rapid detection of trace water in DMF with a calculated detection limit of 0.0078 v/v %. The relevant recognition mechanism is the decomposition of the structure during the recognition process due to the water instability of the ionic bond. Background: The risk of developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is unknown for subjects with both gallstones and renal stones, nor is it known whether there is a difference in the risk between gallstones and renal stones. This study aimed to determine the risk relationship between gallstones and renal stones and the risk of ASCVD in a male population. Methods: We recruited 6371 eligible males aged 40 to 79 years old who did not have a documented ASCVD history. The ten-year ASCVD risk was calculated using the pooled cohort equations developed by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA). The ASCVD risk score was classified as a low risk (<7.5%), an intermediate risk (7.5% to 19.9%), or a high risk (≥20%). The diagnosis of gallstones and renal stones was established based on the results of abdominal sonography. Results: Both gallstones and renal stones were associated with a high level of intermediate risk (OR = 3.21, 95% CI = 1.89–5.49, p < 0.001) and high risk (OR = 3.01, 95% CI = 1.48–6.12, p < 0.001), compared to individuals with no stones at all, after adjusting for the effects of other clinical variables. The possession of gallstones was associated with a higher level of high ASCVD risk (OR = 1.84, 95% CI = 1.31–2.59, p < 0.05) than that of renal stones. Conclusions: The ASCVD risk was higher for males with gallstones than for those with renal stones. Proportional-integral (PI) control is widely used in turbofan-engine control, while first-order linear active disturbance rejection control (FOLADRC) is a possible approach to update it. This paper investigates FOLADRC. In methodology, it proposes a new block diagram of FOLADRC, which shows that FOLADRC can be viewed as a PI controller, a low-pass feedback filter, and a pre-filter. The low-pass filter helps to reject high-frequency measurement noise, while the pre-filter can attenuate overshoot in step response. In simulation, 14 published linearized model matrices of NASA's CMAPSS-1 90k engine model are used to verify the above theory. Simulations show one FOLADRC controller can be simultaneously used for the 14 linear models and guarantee that all the 14 low-pressure turbine speed control loops have enough phase margin and no overshoot. Background: Radiotherapy is the first-line regimen for treating oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in current clinics. However, the development of therapeutic resistance impacts the anticancer efficacy of irradiation in a subpopulation of OSCC patients. As a result, discovering a valuable biomarker to predict radiotherapeutic effectiveness and uncovering the molecular mechanism for radioresistance are clinical issues in OSCC. Methods: Three OSCC cohorts from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), GSE42743 dataset and Taipei Medical University Biobank were enrolled to examine the transcriptional levels and prognostic significance of neuronal precursor cell-expressed developmentally downregulated protein 8 (NEDD8). Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was utilized to predict the critical pathways underlying radioresistance in OSCC. The colony-forming assay was used to estimate the consequences of irradiation sensitivity after the inhibition or activation of the NEDD8-autophagy axis in OSCC cells. Results: NEDD8 upregulation was extensively found in primary tumors compared to normal adjacent tissues and potentially served as a predictive marker for the therapeutic effectiveness of irradiation in OSCC patients. NEDD8 knockdown enhanced radiosensitivity but NEDD8 overexpression reduced it in OSCC cell lines. The inclusion of MLN4924, a pharmaceutical inhibitor for NEDD8-activating enzyme, dose-dependently restored the cellular sensitivity to irradiation treatment in irradiation-insensitive OSCC cells. Computational simulation by GSEA software and cell-based analyses revealed that NEDD8 upregulation suppresses Akt/mTOR activity to initiate autophagy formation and ultimately confers radioresistance to OSCC cells. Conclusion: These findings not only identify NEDD8 as a valuable biomarker to predict the efficacy of irradiation but also offer a novel strategy to overcome radioresistance via targeting NEDD8-mediated protein neddylation in OSCC. Background: Mutational signatures computed from somatic mutations, allow an in-depth understanding of tumorigenesis and may illuminate early prevention strategies. Many studies have shown the regulation effects between somatic mutation and gene expression dysregulation. Methods: We hypothesized that there are potential associations between mutational signature and gene expression. We capitalized upon RNA-seq data to model 49 established mutational signatures in 33 cancer types. Both accuracy and area under the curve were used as performance measures in five-fold cross-validation. Results: A total of 475 models using unconstrained genes, and 112 models using protein-coding genes were selected for future inference purposes. An independent gene expression dataset on lung cancer smoking status was used for validation which achieved over 80% for both accuracy and area under the curve. Conclusion: These results demonstrate that the associations between gene expression and somatic mutations can translate into the associations between gene expression and mutational signatures. The filamentous fungus Aspergillus oryzae, also known as koji mold, has been used for centuries in the production of fermented foods in East Asia. A. oryzae fermentation can produce enzymes and metabolites with various bioactivities. In this study, we investigated whether A. oryzae fermentation extract (AOFE) has any effect on Mycoplasma pneumoniae (Mp) pneumonia. We performed solid-state fermentation of A. oryzae and obtained the ethanol extract. AOFE was analyzed by HPLC, and the major component was identified to be kojic acid. In vitro, AOFE suppressed Mp growth and invasion into A549 lung epithelial cells as determined by the gentamicin protection assay. AOFE treatment also suppressed Mp-stimulated production of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-6 at mRNA and protein levels in murine MH-S alveolar macrophages. In a mouse model of Mp pneumonia, Mp infection induced a marked pulmonary infiltration of neutrophils, which was significantly reduced in mice pre-treated orally with AOFE. AOFE administration also suppressed the production of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines in the lungs. This paper uses the MC surface rendering method to extract the three-dimensional CT images of the lumbar spine. An integrated model of L4-L5 lumbar spine of normal youth was constructed, including anterior ligament, posterior ligament, ligamentum flavum, supraspinous ligament, interspinous ligament, annulus fibrosus, nucleus pulposus and other main human spine attached soft tissues. An integrated model of different stages of degenerative disk enlargement lesions (including mild enlargement lesions, moderate enlargement lesions, severe enlargement lesions, etc.) and other finite element mechanical model was constructed; model meshing and parameterized setting of the corresponding material properties of each component was carried out; finally, the loads and boundary conditions in different directions were defined to simulate the stress and deformation under different working conditions of degenerative disk enlargement model at normal youth and different stages. By comparing the stress, deformation and other mechanical test data, the biomechanical characteristics of the lesion model was analyzed according to the relevant mechanical model parameters and evaluation system, so as to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the constructed model, and then to provide accurate mechanical model reference for disease feature recognition, reliability of diagnosis and safety during surgery. This paper has completed the three-dimensional reconstruction of normal young people's L4–L5 lumbar spine integration model and the integrated model of different degree of disk herniation. On the basis of the reconstruction model, add meshing and set the corresponding material properties of each component, and apply different concentrated forces and boundary conditions to the established finite element model to simulate different working conditions, and then obtain the corresponding nephogram of deformation, displacement and stress of the 3D model. Early cancer diagnosis is essential for successful treatment and prognosis, and modified nucleosides have attracted widespread attention as a promising group of cancer biomarkers. However, analyzing these modified nucleosides with an extremely low abundance is a great challenge, especially analyzing multiple modified nucleosides with a different abundance simultaneously. In this work, an ultrasensitive quantification method based on chemical labeling, coupled with LC-MS/MS analysis, was established for the simultaneous quantification of 5hmdC, 5fdC, 5hmdU and 5fdU. Additionally, the contents of 5mdC and canonical nucleosides could be obtained at the same time. Upon derivatization, the detection sensitivities of 5hmdC, 5fdC, 5hmdU and 5fdU were dramatically enhanced by several hundred times. The established method was further applied to the simultaneous detection of nine nucleosides with different abundances in about 2 μg genomic DNA of breast tissues from 20 breast cancer patients. The DNA consumption was less than other overall reported quantification methods, thereby providing an opportunity to monitor rare, modified nucleosides in precious samples and biology processes that could not be investigated before. The contents of 5hmdC, 5hmdU and 5fdU in tumor tissues and normal tissues adjacent to the tumor were significantly changed, indicating that these three modified nucleosides may play certain roles in the formation and development of tumors and be potential cancer biomarkers. While the detection rates of 5hmdC, 5hmdU and 5fdU alone as a biomarker for breast cancer samples were 95%, 75% and 85%, respectively, by detecting these three cancer biomarkers simultaneously, two of the three were 100% consistent with the overall trend. Therefore, simultaneous detection of multiple cancer biomarkers in clinical samples greatly improved the accuracy of cancer diagnosis, indicating that our method has great application potential in clinical multidimensional diagnosis. Background: Signing advance directives (ADs) ensures that terminally ill patients receive end-of-life care, according to their wishes, thereby promoting human dignity and sparing them from unnecessary suffering. Despite the enactment of the Hospice Palliative Care Act in Taiwan in 2000, the completion rates of ADs have been found to be low among patients with chronic illness conditions. To date, limited existing research is available regarding the factors associated with AD completion in terminally ill patients in Taiwan. To explore signed AD characteristics, compare differences in signing ADs between patients with and without cancer, and examine the factors associated with signing ADs in terminally ill patients. Methods: A nationwide study was conducted using data collected via a retrospective review of medical death records from 18 randomly selected hospitals in the northern, central, and southern parts of Taiwan. We collected 200 records, including both cancer and non-cancer-related deaths, from each hospital. Univariate and multivariate logistics regressions were conducted to examine factors associated with signing advance directives among all patients- with and without cancer. Results: Among the 3004 reviewed medical records, 79% had signed ADs, with most (95%) being signed by patients' caregivers. A higher education level (OR = 1.52, 95% CI = 1.10, 2.08, p = 0.010); cancer diagnosis (OR = 2.37, 95% CI = 1.79, 3.16, p < 0.001); having family members (OR = 5.62, 95% CI = 2.95, 10.69, p < 0.001), care homes (OR = 4.52, 95% CI = 1.97, 10.38, p < 0.001), friends, or maids (OR = 3.82, 95% CI = 1.76, 8.29, p = 0.001) as primary caregivers; and patients knowing about their poor prognosis (OR = 15.39, 95% CI = 5.66, 41.83, p < 0.001) were associated with a higher likelihood of signing ADs. Conclusions: Patients with non-malignant chronic illnesses were less likely to have ADs signed by either patients or family caregivers than those with cancer, with the lowest likelihood observed in patients with cardiovascular diseases. Whenever possible, primary caregivers should be involved in discussing ADs with patients, and the importance of truth telling should be reinforced. Using a symmetry-preserving regularisation of a vector × vector contact interaction (SCI), we complete a systematic treatment of twelve semileptonic transitions with vector meson final states: D → ρ , D (s) → K ∗ , D s → ϕ , B → ρ , B s → K ∗ , B (s) → D (s) ∗ , B c → B (s) ∗ , J / ψ , D ∗ ; and thereby finalise a unified analysis of semileptonic decays of heavy + heavy and heavy + light pseudoscalar mesons to both pseudoscalar and vector meson final states. The analysis is marked by algebraic simplicity, few parameters, and the ability to consistently describe systems from Nambu-Goldstone modes to heavy + heavy mesons. Regarding the behaviour of the transition form factors, the SCI results compare well wherever sound experimental or independent theory analyses are available; hence, the SCI branching fraction predictions should be a reasonable guide. Considering the ratios R (D (s) (∗)) , R (J / ψ) , R (η c) , whose values are key tests of lepton universality in weak interactions, the SCI values agree with Standard Model predictions. The B (s) → D (s) ∗ transitions are used to predict the precursor functions that evolve into the universal Isgur–Wise function in the heavy-quark limit, with results that conform with those from other sources where such are available. The study also exposes effects on the transition form factors that flow from interference between emergent hadron mass from the strong interaction and Higgs boson couplings via current-quark masses, including flavour symmetry violation. Aims: The number of ventilator-dependent patients is rapidly increasing globally. As a result, long-term mechanical ventilation (LTMV) patients face the choice of receiving health care in respiratory care wards (RCWs) rather than at home. In this study, we applied Andersen's behavioral theoretical model (ABM) to investigate the determinants of the health care service decisions of patients receiving LTMV. Methods: A cross-sectional research design and cluster random sampling were used to select 365 participants from nine RCWs and eight home care facilities in northern Taiwan. Data were collected in face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire. Results: Of the predisposing factors, advanced age and an education level of at least junior high school influenced the choice to use RCW services. Being married, living with extended family, and medium or higher socioeconomic status were associated with the decision to use home care services. Of the enabling factors, patients with more caregivers, those whose family caregivers held strong beliefs about providing care, and those who perceived greater social support from health care providers were more likely to choose home care services. Of the need factors examined, poor cognitive function and higher dependence on assistance for activities of daily living (ADL) increased the probability of patients choosing RCW services. Hierarchical logistic regression analysis indicated that our final model accounted for 44.8% of the observed variance in health care service choice. Conclusions: ABM enables an improved understanding of the health care service choices of LTMV patients. Aiming to addressing the nonrepetitive uncertainties of multiagent systems, this work proposes a discrete-time-distributed adaptive iterative learning control (DDAILC) scheme for an output consensus problem, where two fundamental requirements in the traditional distributed iterative learning control (ILC) methods, i.e., the identical initial states and the repetitive desired trajectories, are removed. Furthermore, the algorithm design and analysis are directly aimed at discrete-time nonlinear multiagent systems, rather than continuous-time ones, to meet the needs of practical implementations. The iteration-varying trajectory of the virtual leader is included in the learning control protocol for a compensation. The adaptive parameter-updating law works along the iteration dimension by using a general consensus error that contains the output data of adjacent agents. To ensure the estimation of the control gain to be nonzero, a semisaturator is utilized in the parameter-updating law. The convergence of the output consensus is shown rigorously. Both numerical and practical examples are used to test the theoretical results. Moreover, the DDAILC efficiently improves performance of the building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system by utilizing both the distributed topology and the repetitive dynamic characteristic. This study developed a technique for proton range verification based on measuring the intensity distribution of prompt gamma rays (PGs) along the beam path in a target and applying a deconvolution method for retrieving the corresponding distribution of PG emissions. The end-of-range R r e t = d γ p + R r e s can be estimated according to the peak position d γ p of the retrieved PG emission and the residual range R r e s determined from the cross section of the relevant nuclear reaction. A 30-MeV, 1.5-nA proton beam irradiated polyethylene (PE) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) targets, and spatial intensity distributions were obtained by measuring 4.4- and 6.13-MeV PGs from a depth of 0 mm to 10 mm; to this end, a collimator–detector arrangement comprising a 2-inch NaI(Tl) detector and a 2-mm-wide slit collimator was used. Simulations were conducted to identify the profile of PG emissions in a target and to determine the detector response; subsequently, the performance of the developed deconvolution algorithm was validated, and the limits of this approach were investigated. The data from the 30-MeV proton beam experiment were used, and the ranges R r e t were estimated to be 7.85 mm for the PE target and 7.07 mm for the PMMA target; these were considerably close to the range at 80% dose fall-off level R 80 achieved using Monte Carlo simulations. Our results demonstrated that a NaI(Tl)-based system with a millimeter-wide collimator can effectively resolve the spatial variation of PG emissions along a proton beam's path. Klebsiella pneumoniae is an opportunistic pathogen that causes a wide range of infections. The emergence and spread of hypervirulent K. pneumoniae (hvKp), which appears to be different from the classical K. pneumoniae (cKp) in several microbiological aspects, is an urgent global threat. However, the virulence characteristics of hvKp and its differences from cKp are poorly understood. This work aimed to investigate the correlation between the expression characteristics of proteins and hypervirulence, using proteomics. Our results revealed that 185 proteins were upregulated while 266 proteins were downregulated in hvKp isolates when compared with cKp isolates. The differentially expressed proteins were functionally categorized according to the Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway. These proteins were predominantly metabolism associated, which indicates that changes in the metabolic pathways in hvKp isolates might in part contribute to hypervirulence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Previous studies focused on the intense TCs in the central-southeastern western North Pacific (WNP), whose variability is intimately linked to El Niñno-Southern Oscillation and the extratropical sea surface temperature anomaly (SSTA) in the Pacific. Compared with them, weak TCs (WTCs) are more numerous and form farther northwestward. The great number of WTCs and thereby the landfall cases may also cause huge damage to countries in Southeast Asia. However, their modulators are far from fully understood. Our research emphasizes the delayed impact of the early spring North Atlantic tripole SSTA (NAT) on the WTC formation frequency through the "capacitor" effect of sea ice (SIC) and SST in the Barents Sea. Detailed analysis indicates that a positive NAT may modulate an anomalous high in the Barents Sea-North Europe and decrease the local low cloud cover. Thus, more downward solar radiation tends to heat the local SST and decrease the SIC. This warmer Barents Sea could maintain through the typhoon season and excite a significant southeastward wave train, with several centers in the Arctic, central Asia, and East Asia. The abnormal easterly wind to the south of the anticyclone in East Asia facilitates the cyclonic anomaly in the South China Sea, the Philippines, and the subtropical WNP, which reinforces the local monsoon trough and favors the WTC formation there. A physical-based empirical model is developed for the WTC frequency, and hindcast is performed from 1979 to 2018.
