This paper proposes an analytical solution for a fractional fuzzy acoustic wave equation. Under the fractional Caputo-Fabrizio operator, we use the Laplace transformation and the iterative technique. In the present study, the achieved series type result was determined, and we approximated the estimated values of the suggested models. All three problems used two various fractional-order simulations between 0 and 1 to obtain the upper and lower portions of the fuzzy results. Since the exponential function is present, the fractional operator is non-singular and global. Due to its dynamic behaviors, it provides all fuzzy form solutions that happen between 0 and 1 at any level of fractional order. Because the fuzzy numbers return the solution in a fuzzy shape with upper and lower branches, the unknown quantity likewise incorporates fuzziness.

This investigation presents the fuzzy nanoparticle volume fraction on heat transfer of second-grade hybrid $ {\text{A}}{{\text{l}}_{\text{2}}}{{\text{O}}_{\text{3}}}{\text{ + Cu/EO}} $ nanofluid over a stretching/shrinking Riga wedge under the contribution of heat source, stagnation point, and nonlinear thermal radiation. Also, this inquiry includes flow simulations using modified Hartmann number, boundary wall slip and heat convective boundary condition. Engine oil is used as the host fluid and two distinct nanomaterials ($ {\text{Cu}} $ and $ {\text{A}}{{\text{l}}_{\text{2}}}{{\text{O}}_{\text{3}}} $) are used as nanoparticles. The associated nonlinear governing PDEs are intended to be reduced into ODEs using suitable transformations. After that 'bvp4c, ' a MATLAB technique is used to compute the solution of said problem. For validation, the current findings are consistent with those previously published. The temperature of the hybrid nanofluid rises significantly more quickly than the temperature of the second-grade fluid, for larger values of the wedge angle parameter, the volume percentage of nanomaterials. For improvements to the wedge angle and Hartmann parameter, the skin friction factor improves. Also, for the comparison of nanofluids and hybrid nanofluids through membership function (MF), the nanoparticle volume fraction is taken as a triangular fuzzy number (TFN) in this work. Membership function and $ \sigma {\text{ - cut}} $ are controlled TFN which ranges from 0 to 1. According to the fuzzy analysis, the hybrid nanofluid gives a more heat transfer rate as compared to nanofluids. Heat transfer and boundary layer flow at wedges have recently received a lot of attention due to several metallurgical and engineering physical applications such as continuous casting, metal extrusion, wire drawing, plastic, hot rolling, crystal growing, fibreglass and paper manufacturing.

Our main concern in this study is to present the generalized results to investigate the existence of solutions to nonlinear fractional boundary value problems (FBVPs) with generalized nonlinear boundary conditions. The framework of the presented results relies on the lower and upper solutions approach which allows us to ensure the existence of solutions in a sector defined by well-ordered coupled lower and upper solutions. It is worth mentioning that the presented results unify the existence criteria of certain problems which were treated on a case-by-case basis in the literature. Two examples are supplied to support the results.

Potato virus Y (PVY) is a deadly environmental constraint that damages productivity of potato (Solanum tuberosum) around the globe. One of the major challenges is to develop resistance against PVY. Emerging clustered regularly short palindromic repeat (CRISPR)/Cas systems have the potential to develop resistance against PVY. In the current research, CRISPR-Cas13 has been exploited to target multiple strains of PVYN, PVYO, and PVYNTN. Multiple genes PI, HC-Pro, P3, Cl1, Cl2, and VPg genes of PVY were targeted by CRISPR/Cas13a. Multiplex gRNA cassettes were developed on the conserved regions of the PVY-genes. Three independent CRISPR/Cas13 transgenic potato lines were developed by applying an optimized concentration of trans-ribo zeatin and indole acetic acid at callus development, rooting, and shooting growth stages. The level of resistance in transgenic plants was confirmed through double-antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and real-time quantitative PCR. Our results have shown that efficiency of PVY inhibition was positively correlated with the Cas13a/sgRNA expression. Finding provides the specific functionality of Cas13 with specific gRNA cassette and engineering the potential resistance in potato crop against multiple strains of PVY.

The co-precipitation route was used for the preparation of Nd-substituted NiFe2O4. The proposed general formula of prepared ferrite was NdxNiFe2-xO4. Here, “x” the moles of Nd3+ were 0.0, 0.0125, 0.025 and 0.05 in various compositions. The prepared nanocrystallites were characterized using X-rays diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and impedance analyzer. XRD patterns of all prepared samples were analyzed to confirm the phase of the materials and determine the lattice constant, crystallite size and X-rays density. The lattice parameter value varied between 8.3501 and 8.3549 Å. The average crystallite size was ∼15 nm. The FTIR spectral analysis was used to investigate the M-O stretching vibrational bands. FTIR spectra showed the stretching vibrational bands of Fe-O at octahedral and tetrahedral sites. After structural and spectral investigations, the prepared nanocrystallites were subjected to room temperature magnetic measurements by vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) technique. The magnetic parameters were investigated from the VSM data. The magnetic parameters suggested the possible utilization of these nanocrystalline ferrites for various advanced technological applications like switching devices and high-frequency devices. The dielectric parameters were also investigated using an impedance analyzer.

A 4 × 4 Butler Matrix (BM) without phase shifter is proposed to provide bandwidth enhancement and size reduction by removing a conventional 0 dB/90° crossover, two 0° phase shifters and two 45° phase shifters. Two proposed 3 dB/45° patch couplers replace the combination of two conventional 3 dB/90° branch-line couplers and two 45° phase shifters, whilst a modified 0 dB/0° crossover removes two 0° phase shifters from the conventional BM. The −10 dB fractional bandwidths of reflection coefficients and isolations for the proposed BM are 18.46% in simulation and measurement. The −6 dB ± 1.5 dB average transmission coefficient and +45°, −135°, +135° and −45° of output phase differences with 1.8° average phase imbalance are accomplished at 6.5 GHz. The simulated and measured scattering parameters (S-parameters) and phase differences are in close compliance with each other. Four switched-beams pointed at +15°, −50°, +50° and −15° are developed by integrating the proposed BM with inset feeding patch antennas. The proposed BM is miniaturized by 51.56%, whilst the bandwidth performance is enhanced by 9.7% compared to the conventional BM. Hence, this compact BM is a promising candidate for the fifth generation (5G) communication system.

Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are low-resource devices that run on small batteries. The availability of battery energy, device drive cycles, and environmental conditions all have an impact on node lifetime. The state of charge (SoC) is an important factor in determining the amount of energy available in the batteries. Accurate SoC estimation is critical for device lifetime prediction and safe device operation. We present a novel approach for adaptive SoC estimation based on Gaussian Process Regression in this paper (GPR). The training data was obtained in a climate-controlled laboratory setting by using IEEE 802.15.4-based drive loads at various temperatures for three different batteries such as Lithium-Ion, Nickel-metal hydride, and Lithium-Polymer. To estimate the SoC, battery parameters such as voltage, capacity, and temperature were directly mapped to the corresponding models. For each battery parameter, the GPR model with hyper tuned Radial Bias Filter (RBF) was trained at temperatures ranging from 5 °C to 45 °C. For model accuracy, the proposed scheme was compared to polynomial regression and support vector machines (SVM). In this regard, the proposed model provided Mean Absolute Error (MAE) values of 2.53 percent, 2.54 percent, and 2 percent, respectively, and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values of 0.295, 0.292, and 0.35 for Nickel-metal hydride, Lithium-Polymer, and Lithium-Ion batteries at 25 °C. Our proposed lightweight GPR scheme is, to the best of our knowledge, the only active implementation on embedded platforms for SoC estimation of WSN. Finally, the model was rigorously tested on ARM Cortex M4-based microcontrollers to report real-time online SoC estimation on WSN nodes.

Low-speed wind tunnel experiments are conducted to study the aerodynamic performance of a half-span delta wing with 45° leading-edge sweep at subsonic flow regime. The experiments are carried out at a Reynolds number of 8.37 × 105, a free-stream Mach number of 0.1 and angles of attack up to 25°, in steps of 5°. The test model was designed with thirty-two pressure taps fixed on its surfaces (sixteen on each side). Multi-tube manometers were connected to these taps using long tubes to enable recording the pressure readings. Surface pressure distributions and aerodynamic characteristics were calculated at different span-wise locations along the non-dimensional chord-wise distance. Results exhibited that most lift on the studied wing is generated in the region close to the leading edge for all the studied incidence angles. Additional lift is created in the region close to the root chord rather than the tip chord, whereas drag forces increases from tip to root. This can be attributed to the formation of trailing edge vortexes due to the flow separation at the wing leading edge that produces more drag, hence suppressing lift. The study showed also that angle of attack increases the drag coefficient from tip to root, especially at high angle of attack, indicating unfavourable behaviour for manoeuvring. Moreover, the angle of attack increased the pitching moment coefficient up to 10° before it drops sharply until it reaches the tip of the wing model.

Hypoxia, an oxygen-deprived condition of the tumor, is one of the major reasons for resistance to chemotherapy. Carbonic anhydrases are generally involved in pH homeostasis in normal conditions, but in solid tumors having a strong relation with hypoxia, the carbonic anhydrase IX (CA-IX) enzyme is overexpressed and results in an extracellular acidic environment. For most weakly basic anticancer drugs, including doxorubicin (Dox), the ionization in an acidic environment limits their cellular uptake, and consequently, the tumor exposure to the drug at sub-therapeutic concentration comes out as chemoresistance. Herein, a combined drug delivery system of liposomes and mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNPs) was developed for the co-delivery of the CA-IX enzyme inhibitor and Dox in hypoxic condition. The unique structure of MSNPs with higher surface area was utilized for higher drug loading and sustained release of Dox. Additionally, the biocompatible nature of liposomal coating as a second loading site for the CA-IX enzyme inhibitor has provided gatekeeping effects at pore opening to avoid premature drug release. Lipid coated MSNPs as a co-delivery system for Dox and the CA-IX inhibitor have synergistic cytotoxic effects against MDA-MB 231 breast cancer cells in hypoxic conditions. These findings assure the potential of this drug delivery system to overcome hypoxia-related chemoresistance.

Abstract Cotton is an international agricultural commodity and the main cash crop of Pakistan of which quality and quantity are subject to various whims of nature. Climate change, insect pest complex, and weeds are reducing its productivity. Here, we have developed triple gene cotton containing EPSPS gene along with two Bt toxin genes Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab using a strategy where all three genes are cloned in the same T-DNA, followed by successful cotton transformation via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. This strategy has been developed to help cotton breeders in developing new cultivars by incorporating these genes into the non-transgenic or single Bt (Cry1Ac) gene cotton background where all three genes will inherit together. The expression of all three proteins was confirmed through immunostrips and was quantified through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The spatio-temporal expression of Bt protein in different parts of triple gene NIBGE cotton plants was determined. Maximum expression was found in leaves followed by seeds and boll rinds. Insect bioassays with cotton bollworms (Helicoverpa armigera), armyworms (Spodoptera litura), and pink bollworms (Pectinophora gossypiella) showed more than 90% mortality. The best performing line (NIBGE-E2) on the basis of spatiotemporal expression, glyphosate assays, and insect mortality data, was used for event characterization by using the genome sequencing approach. The event was successfully characterized and named NIBGE 20-01. A diagnostics test based on event-specific PCR was developed and its ability to distinguish NIBGE 20-01 event from other commercial transgenic cotton events was confirmed. To confirm stable expression of all three proteins in the field conditions, homozygous transgenic lines were grown in the field and the expression was confirmed through immunostrip assays. It was found that all three genes are expressed under field conditions. To show that all three genes are inherited together upon crossing with local elite cotton lines, the F1 generation was grown under glasshouse and field conditions. The expression of all three genes was confirmed under field conditions. Our results showed that transgenic cotton with three genes cloned in the same T-DNA can express all genes and can be conveniently transferred into elite cotton lines through a single cross.

Background: Rhino cerebral mucormycosis is an uncommon opportunistic infection of the nasal sinuses and brain, and a group of saprophytic fungi causes it. During the second wave of COVID-19, India witnessed an unprecedented number of patients with rhino cerebral mucormycosis. Invasion of the cavernous sinus and occlusion of the internal carotid artery in many cases resulted in a stroke. The study aimed to assess the clinical and neuroimaging predictors of stroke in patients with rhino cerebral mucormycosis. We also evaluated the predictors of death in these patients at 90 days. Methods: A prospective study was performed at a tertiary care centre in India between July 2021 and September 2021. We enrolled consecutive microbiologically confirmed patients of rhino cerebral mucormycosis. All patients underwent neuroimaging of the brain. Treatment comprised of anti-fungal drugs and endoscopic nasal/sinus debridement. We followed the patients for 90 days and assessed the predictors of stroke and mortality Results: Forty-four patients with rhino cerebral mucormycosis were enrolled. At inclusion, in 24 patients, the RT-PCR test for SARS-COV-2 was negative. Diabetes mellitus was the most frequent (72.7 %) underlying risk factor; in most, diabetes mellitus was recently discovered. At inclusion or subsequent follow-up, stroke was seen in 11 (25 %) patients. Only seven patients had hemiparesis. Imaging revealed internal carotid artery occlusion in 17 (38.6 %) patients. Hypertension, corticosteroid use, and cavernous sinus thrombosis were independent predictors of stroke. Nine (20.5 %) died during follow-up, and stroke was an independent predictor of death. Conclusion: Stroke indicated poor prognosis among rhino cerebral mucormycosis patients encountered during the second wave of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Tigers (Panthera tigris) have disappeared from over 90% of their historical range, and extant populations face habitat loss, direct poaching, and prey depletion in otherwise suitable habitats. In Thailand, tiger numbers continue to decline due to prey depletion, yet a few strongholds remain. Recently, tigers have been detected in the Southern Western Forest Complex (sWEFCOM), following intensification of conservation efforts. However, there is still a lack of primary data on the status of tigers and their prey in the sWEFCOM. To fill this knowledge gap, we conducted camera trapping surveys between 2019 and 2020 in Khuean Srinagarindra National Park (KSR) and Salakphra Wildlife Sanctuary (SLP). Located near a tiger source population in Thungyai Naresuan and Huai Kha Khaeng, these areas are potential areas for tiger recovery. In particular, our study assessed the status of prey, a prerequisite to the persistence and recovery of tigers. Based on relative abundance indices, time overlap and occupancy models, we analysed the effect of anthropogenic and ecological factors on the spatial and temporal habitat use of the main prey species. We highlight that anthropogenic factor impacted species-specific habitat relationships. Mainly, shifts in ungulate temporal and spatial habitat use was linked to human activities. These relationships, however, differed between the two protected areas. As tiger recovery depends on prey recovery, we suggest that increased conservation law enforcement and greater engagement with villages within and adjacent to protected areas are essential to minimising unsustainable resource use practices that currently affect prey.

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus causes hyperglycemia and associated complications to the brain. In current study, the traditionally reported remedial claims of Agave americana var. marginata has been scientifically investigated in diabetic rats. Methodology: The methanolic extract of leaves of Agave americana var. marginata (Aa.Cr) was characterized for total phenols, flavonoids, and antioxidant potential through in-vitro testing. The rats chronically pre-treated with Aa.Cr (400 and 600 mg/kg) for 45 days were challenged with alloxan-induced hyperglycemia. The dose-dependent effects of Aa.Cr on blood glucose levels and body weights were compared with diabetic rats using glibenclamide (0.6 mg/kg) as a standard. The animals were tested for diabetes-associated neurological comorbidities through behavioral and biochemical evaluation. Results: The phenols and flavonoids enriched Aa.Cr caused a significant dose-dependent hypoglycemic effect. Aa.Cr showed protection from comorbid anxiety, depression and cognitive impairment as compared to diabetic rats. The alanine aminotransferase, total cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein were prominently reduced, and high-density lipoprotein was increased in rats treated with Aa.Cr. Moreover, the oxidative stress in isolated brains was reduced by Aa.Cr. Conclusion: These findings suggest that Aa.Cr is enriched with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory phytoconstituents valuable for diabetes and related neurological complications.

Abstract Surfactant-polymer (SP) flooding is considered an efficient technique to increase the recovery of oil, especially from carbonates reservoirs, because of their complex nature. The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of polymer drive composition on surfactant retention. We developed a geochemical model that uses various surface complexation reactions at the mineral/brine interface, oil/brine interface, surfactant/brine interface, and oil/surfactant interface. We also incorporated four new surface complexation reactions that honor oil/surfactant geochemical interaction to determine the influence of polymer composition on surface retention for the first time. Then we validated the developed geochemical model against coreflooding experimental data. Additionally, we investigated the influence of various parameters of polymer drive on surface retention under high temperature and salinity using the suggested surface complexation model. The findings showed that our surface complexation model can estimate surfactant retention and its concentration in the effluent with a certain accuracy during polymer drive. The developed geochemical model is validated against single-phase and two-phase coreflooding experimental data. The findings revealed that for a more representative and accurate estimation of surfactant retention in chemical flooding, it is important to consider the oil/surfactant surface complexation reactions. Moreover, the detailed and comprehensive analysis showed that with the increase in temperature of the polymer drive, the retention of surfactant increases, and its concentration in the effluent decreases. The latter shows that surfactant retention is a more chemical process as opposed to physio-retention. It is also shown that the injection of a specific composition of polymer drive after a surfactant slug could decrease the surfactant retention, which is related to the force of repulsion between the ionic species and the rock surface. Moreover, the effect of hard ions (calcium and magnesium) in polymer drive is significant where the increase in the concentration of hard ions increases the retention of surfactant. Furthermore, it is important to mention that the lowest level of surfactant retention was achieved through a certain composition of polymer drive, thus the polymer solution dilution is not an effective approach. This is the first study to test a novel formulation of surface complexation modeling that considers the oil/surfactant effect on surfactant retention corresponding to the composition of polymer drive. The suggested framework to determine surfactant retention is conducted for harsh reservoir conditions of temperature and salinity and suggests that the surface complexation reactions for all rock-forming minerals must be considered.

The Denitrification-Decomposition (DNDC)-Rice is a mechanistic model which is widely used for the simulation and estimation of greenhouse gas emissions [nitrous oxide (N2O)] from soils under rice cultivation. N2O emissions from paddy fields in South Korea are of high importance for their cumulative effect on climate. The objective of this study was to estimate the N2O emissions and biogeochemical factors involved in N2O emissions such as ammonium (NH4+) and nitrate (NO3−) using the DNDC model in the rice-growing regions of South Korea. N2O emission was observed at every application of fertilizer and during end-season drainage at different rice-growing regions in South Korea. Maximum NH4+ and NO3− were observed at 0–10 cm depth of soil. NH4+ increased at each fertilizer application and no change in NO3− was observed during flooding. NH4+ decreased and NO3− increased simultaneously at end-season drainage. Minimum and maximum cumulative N2O emissions were observed at Chungcheongbuk-do and Jeju-do regions of South Korea, respectively. The simulated average cumulative N2O emission in rice paddies of South Korea was 1.37 kg N2O-N ha−1 season−1. This study will help in calculating the total nitrogen emissions from agriculture land of South Korea and the World. HIGHLIGHTS We successfully simulated N2O emission from rice paddy fields of South Korea.; DNDC model was used to estimate N2O emission in South Korea.; Biogeochemical factors of soil such as NH4+ and NO3− concentration were also focused upon.; Simulated N2O emission in this study was strongly correlated as R2 =0.88–0.90.; Results may help to estimate the nitrogen budget of South Korea as well as the world.;

The main purpose of this research is to propose an m-polar interval-valued neutrosophic soft set (mPIVNSSs) by merging the m-polar fuzzy set and interval-valued neutrosophic soft set. The mPIVNSSs is the most generalized form of interval-valued neutrosophic soft set. It can accommodate the truthiness, indeterminacy, and falsity in intervals form. We develop some fundamental operations for mPIVNSS such as AND Operator, OR Operator, Truth-favorite, and False-favorite Operators with their properties. The weighted aggregation operator for mPIVNSS is also established with its properties. Furthermore, the developed mPIVNSWA operator has demonstrated a novel decision-making methodology for mPIVNSS to solve the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. Finally, the comparative analysis of the developed algorithm is given with the prevailing techniques.

The paper proposes the generalized version of the multipolar neutrosophic soft set. The neutrosophic soft set (NSS) is an advanced extension of the neutrosophic set, which accommodates the alternatives' parametrized values. This paper extends the NSS to generalized multipolar NSS and introduces some fundamental operations for generalized multipolar NSS with their necessary properties. We define the correlation coefficient (CC) and weighted correlation coefficient (WCC) for the generalized multi-polar neutrosophic soft set. Several desirable properties for CC and WCC and their relationship are derived. Finally, based on established correlation measures, a decisionmaking algorithm under the neutrosophic environment is stated to tackle uncertain and vague information. The applicability of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through a case study of the decision-making problem. A comparative analysis with several existing studies reveals the effectiveness of the approach.

Abstract This paper presents an 802.11ad-based radio frequency module for high data rate fixed wireless access and backhaul communications. The transceiver chip is manufactured in SiGe BiCMOS technology covering 57–71 GHz, providing 16 RX and 16 TX paths with combined output power of more than 20 dBm. The chip is packaged using embedded wafer-level BGA technology of the size $$12.6\times 12.6\times 0.8~{\text{ mm }}^3$$ 12.6 × 12.6 × 0.8 mm 3 and employs advanced dielectric materials with 2 metallic redistribution layers. The package integrates the transceiver chip with RX and TX high gain PCB antenna arrays, allowing effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP) of more than 40 dBm. Beam steering is achieved in ± 50 $$^{\circ }$$ ∘ by the transceiver through providing appropriate weights to the antenna arrays. The paper presents generation of beamforming lookup table along with optimization of the power distribution to the array. This optimization results in flattening of the EIRP over the whole beam-steering range and frequency bandwidth. The module allows for data rates up to 10 Gbps by employing full-channel 128 QAM and half-channel 256 QAM single-carrier modulation.

Microwave irradiation is used in this study to synthesize poly (acrylamide-co-2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)/chitosan (P(AM-co-HEMA)/chitosan) semi-IPN hydrogels, which are synthesized using one-pot polymerization techniques with ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator. The first step was to synthesize a (P(AM-co-HEMA) network in a chitosan aqueous solution, which formed a semi-IPN structure. Nanocomposite membranes of P(AM-co-HEMA)/chitosan membranes with varying Zinc oxide concentrations i.e. 2.5, 5, and 10 wt. % gravimetrically were tested for gas permeability measurements of pure oxygen gas at feed pressures ranging from 1 to 20 kg/cm2. The permeability of the membranes to oxygen ranged from 0.0963 to 0.2634 Barrer for the pristine Poly (Acrylamide-co-2-Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate)/Chitosan Semi-IPN membrane, and 5 and 10 wt. % ZnO loaded blend membranes showed good resistance and zero permeability at feed pressures of 1–5 kg/cm2 and 0.0341 to 0.0364 Barrer for 10 wt. % ZnO loaded blend membranes by increasing the feed pressures at the feed chamber. The nanocomposite membranes were tested for antimicrobial properties and found to be a more effective antimicrobial material. The results of the soil burial tests show that the prepared membranes are biodegradable. Mechanical strength is exceptional under normal conditions.

Currently, the challenges that analytical chemistry has to face are ever greater and more complex both from the point of view of the selectivity of analytical methods and their sensitivity. This is especially true in quantitative analysis, where various methods must include the development and validation of new materials, strategies, and procedures to meet the growing need for rapid, sensitive, selective, and green methods. In this context, given the International Guidelines, which over time, are updated and which set up increasingly stringent “limits”, constant innovation is required both in the pre-treatment procedures and in the instrumental configurations to obtain reliable, accurate, and reproducible information. In addition, the environmental field certainly represents the greatest challenge, as analytes are often present at trace and ultra-trace levels. These samples containing analytes at ultra-low concentration levels, therefore, require very labor-intensive sample preparation procedures and involve the high consumption of organic solvents that may not be considered “green”. In the literature, in recent years, there has been a strong development of increasingly high-performing sample preparation techniques, often “solvent-free”, as well as the development of hyphenated instrumental configurations that allow for reaching previously unimaginable levels of sensitivity. This review aims to provide an update of the most recent developments currently in use in sample pre-treatment and instrument configurations in the environmental field, also evaluating the role and future developments of analytical chemistry in light of upcoming challenges and new goals yet to be achieved.

The present investigation was undertaken to standardize the media and the anti-browning regime in order to minimize the phenolic browning of an in vitro culture of Persian walnut cv. Sulaiman. The experiments involved two types of explants, forced and unforced shoot tips, two types of media, Driver and Kuniyuki Walnut (DKW) medium andMurashige and Skooģs (MS) medium, and three types of anti-browning agents, namely, Polyvinylpyrrolidone, ascorbic acid and activated charcoal at 150, 350 and 550 mg/L each. The investigation was replicated thrice under a completely randomized design. Forced shoot tips of cv. Sulaiman on DKW medium showed the best performance in terms of least browning (13.6 ± 10.5%) and highest survival percentage of explants (74.5 ± 2.4%) when treated with ascorbic acid at 550 mg/L. However, unforced shoot tips in MS medium did not perform well and manifested maximum browning (52.9 ± 5.2%). Based on the results, we conclude that incorporation of ascorbic acid in the DKW medium significantly reduced the media and explant browning, thus, it could set the basis of successful in vitro-propagation of walnuts.

Background: With the rapid development of the genomic sequence data for the Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and its variants Delta (B.1.617.2) and Omicron (B.1.1.529), it is vital to successfully identify mutations within the genome. Objective: The main objective of the study is to investigate the full-length genome mutation analysis of 157 SARS-CoV-2 and its variant Delta and Omicron isolates. This study also provides possible effects at the structural level to understand the role of mutations and new insights into the evolution of COVID-19 and evaluates the differential level analysis in viral genome sequence among different nations. We have also tried to offer a mutation snapshot for these differences that could help in vaccine formulation. This study utilizes a unique and efficient method of targeting the stable genes for the drug discovery approach. Methods: Complete genome sequence information of SARS-CoV-2, Delta, and Omicron from online resources were used to predict structure domain identification, data mining, and screening; employing different bioinformatics tools. BioEdit software was used to perform their genomic alignments across countries and a phylogenetic tree as per the confidence of 500 bootstrapping values was constructed. Heterozygosity ratios were determined in-silico. A minimum spanning network (MSN) of selected populations was determined by Bruvo's distance role-based framework. Results: Out of all 157 different strains of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants, and their complete genome sequences from different countries, Corona nucleoca and DUF5515 were observed to be the most conserved domains. All genomes obtained changes in comparison to the Wuhan-Hu-1 strain, mainly in the TRS region (CUAAAC or ACGAAC). We discovered 596 mutations in all genes, with the highest number (321) found in ORF1ab (QHD43415.1), or TRS site mutations found only in ORF7a (1) and ORF10 (2). The Omicron variant has 30 mutations in the Spike protein and has a higher alpha-helix shape (23.46%) than the Delta version (22.03%). T478 was also discovered to be a prevalent polymorphism in Delta and Omicron variations, as well as genomic gaps ranging from 45 to 65aa. All 157 sequences contained variations and conformed to Nei's Genetic distance. We discovered heterozygosity (Hs) 0.01, mean anticipated Hs 0.32, the genetic diversity index (GDI) 0.01943989, and GD within population 0.01266951. Abstract Objective We propose a novel cue‐based asynchronous brain–computer interface(BCI) for neuromodulation via the pairing of endogenous motor cortical activity with the activation of somatosensory pathways. Methods The proposed BCI detects the intention to move from single‐trial EEG signals in real time, but, contrary to classic asynchronous‐BCI systems, the detection occurs only during time intervals when the patient is cued to move. This cue‐based asynchronous‐BCI was compared with two traditional BCI modes (asynchronous‐BCI and offline synchronous‐BCI) and a control intervention in chronic stroke patients. The patients performed ankle dorsiflexion movements of the paretic limb in each intervention while their brain signals were recorded. BCI interventions decoded the movement attempt and activated afferent pathways via electrical stimulation. Corticomotor excitability was assessed using motor‐evoked potentials in the tibialis‐anterior muscle induced by transcranial magnetic stimulation before, immediately after, and 30 min after the intervention. Results The proposed cue‐based asynchronous‐BCI had significantly fewer false positives/min and false positives/true positives (%) as compared to the previously developed asynchronous‐BCI. It is proved that the solution set of mixed variational-like inequalities is non-empty, bounded, closed and convex.

Abstract The communication describes a theoretical framework for tangent hyperbolic fluid of nano-biofilm due to an extending or shrinking sheet that comprises a stagnation point flow, chemical reaction with activation energy, and bioconvection of gyrotactic microorganisms. The varying transport features due to dynamic viscosity, thermal conductivity, nano-particle mass permeability and microbe organisms diffusivity are taken into account for the novelty of this work. The inspiration is developed to enhance heat transfer. A set of leading partial differential equations is formed along with appropriate boundary constraints. Using similarity transformations, the basic formulation is transitioned into non-linear differential equations. To produce observational data, the shooting technique and Runge-Kutta fourth order method are employed. The coding of numerical scheme is developed in Matlab script. The visual representation of the effects of diverse fluid transport properties and distinctive parameters on speed, temperature, concentration and motile density are evaluated. Abstract This article is concerned with the study of MHD non-Newtonian nanofluid flow over a stretching/shrinking cylinder along with thermal radiation effects. Two-component slip mechanism models, namely Brownian motion and thermophoresis of nanofluid for the mass and energy transportation, developed by Buongiorno, are used. Convective heat transfer and nonuniform magnetic field are retained for the expanding/contracting cylinder. Variable thermal conductivity and heat generation effects along with slip boundary conditions are utilized over the cylinder surface. By utilizing the similarity transformation, these governing partial differential equations are converted into nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs). To obtain numerical results, these ODE’S are solved by the shooting method using MATLAB software. The impact of different parameters like variable thermal conductivity, radiation parameter, magnetic parameter, Prandtl number, Brownian motion parameter, the magnetic parameter, Weissenberg number, the viscosity ratio parameter and mass transfer parameter, on the velocity, temperature and concentration is discussed graphically. Further, the Sherwood number, Nusselt number, the skin friction coefficient are also discussed through figures. It is noted through analysis that the speed of the nanofluid reduces for the higher Weissenberg number and expanding cylinder. For the contracting cylinder, i.e., for the negative unsteadiness parameter, the velocity increases.

The evolution of nanofluids is important for improving the thermal conductivity of base fluids. The influence of thermal radiation and thermal stratification on the magnetohydrodynamic micropolar nanofluid flow through a shrinking sheet with a prescribed heat flux on the surface has been examined. The most important parts of this study are the effects of magnetohydrodynamic microrotation, thermal radiation, the magnetic field, and the Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model. The efficiency of nanoparticles, heat, and mass transference rates are influenced by the magnetic field pattern, the characteristics of the source of heat, thermal radiation, and the dispersion of volume fraction. The partial differentials are transformed into the set of nonlinear differential equations through boundary layer estimations and similarity substitutions and then computed with the use of a variational finite element procedure. A MATLAB code has been developed to assess parametric simulations for reduced skin friction factor, micro-rotation, fluid velocity, heat transfer rate, and thermal properties for the Glariken formulation. The temperature field declined due to increasing values of the thermal stratification parameter and the heat transfer rate accelerated. There is a strong link between the two sets of results, which shows that the finite element method used here is accurate.

Background: Ileal pouch anal anastomosis is the treatment of choice for patients with chronic ulcerative colitis and familial adenomatous polyposis undergoing a proctocolectomy and desiring bowel continuity. It is a technically complex operation associated with significant morbidity and may be performed by an open, laparoscopic, or robotic approach. However, there is a paucity of data regarding the comparative perioperative outcomes between these 3 techniques outside of institutional studies. Methods: The NSQIP targeted proctectomy data set was used to identify patients who underwent open, laparoscopic, and robotic ileal pouch anal anastomosis between 2016 and 2019. Thirty-day outcomes between different surgical approaches were compared using univariate and multivariable analysis. Results: During the study period, 1,067 open, 971 laparoscopic, and 341 robotic ileal pouch anal anastomosis were performed. The most frequent indications were inflammatory bowel disease (64%), malignancy (18%), and familial adenomatous polyposis (7%). Mean age of the cohort was 43 ± 15 years with 43% female and 76% with body mass index ≤30 kg/m2. Overall morbidity was 26.8% for the entire cohort with 4% anastomotic leak, 6% reoperation, 21% ileus, and 21% readmission rate. After adjusting for available confounders, operative approach was not associated with better short-term outcomes, including length of stay, overall morbidity, anastomotic leak, reoperation, incidence of ileus, and 30-day readmissions. Conclusion: Ileal pouch anal anastomosis continues to be associated with significant postoperative morbidity regardless of operative approach. Patient-related advantages in terms of perioperative outcomes for laparoscopic and robotic platforms compared to open surgery are less pronounced in complex operations such as ileal pouch anal anastomosis.

Abstract Background Mung bean is a short-duration and essential food crop owing to its cash prominence in Asia. Mung bean seeds are rich in protein, fiber, antioxidants, and phytonutrients. The NAC transcription factors (TFs) family is a large plant-specific family, participating in tissue development regulation and abiotic and biotic stresses. Results In this study, we perform genome-wide comparisons of VrNAC with their homologs from Arabidopsis. We identified 81 NAC transcription factors (TFs) in mung bean genome and named as per their chromosome location. A phylogenetic analysis revealed that VrNACs are broadly distributed in nine groups. Moreover, we identified 20 conserved motifs across the VrNACs highlighting their roles in different biological process. Based on the gene structure of the putative VrNAC and segmental duplication events might be playing a vital role in the expansion of mung bean genome. A comparative phylogenetic analysis of mung bean NAC together with homologs from Arabidopsis allowed us to classify NAC genes into 13 groups, each containing several orthologs and paralogs. Gene ontology (GO) analysis categorized the VrNACs into biological process, cellular components and molecular functions, explaining the functions in different plant physiology processes. A gene co-expression network analysis identified 173 genes involved in the transcriptional network of putative VrNAC genes. We also investigated how miRNAs potentially target VrNACs and shape their interactions with proteins. VrNAC1.4 (Vradi01g03390.1) was targeted by the Vra-miR165 family, including 9 miRNAs. Vra-miR165 contributes to leaf development and drought tolerance. We also performed qRT-PCR on 22 randomly selected VrNAC genes to assess their expression patterns in the NM-98 genotype, widely known for being tolerant to drought and bacterial leaf spot disease. Conclusions This genome-wide investigation of VrNACs provides a unique resource for further detailed investigations aimed at predicting orthologs functions and what role the play under abiotic and biotic stress, with the ultimate aim to improve mung bean production under diverse environmental conditions.

Abstract The unsteady energy and mass transport of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) second grade nanofluid via an exponentially extending surface with Dufour and Soret effects are investigated in this study. Variable thermal conductivity and mixed convection effects are used to investigate the heat transfer mechanism. There are also new characteristics such as slip flow, viscous dissipation, Brownian motion, nonlinear thermal radiation, and thermophoresis. In the problem formulation, the boundary-layer approximation is used. Using the suitable transformations, the energy, momentum, and concentration equations are generated into non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The solution to the resultant problems was calculated via the Homotopy analysis method (HAM). The effects of environmental parameters on velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles are graphically depicted. When comparing the current results to the previous literature, there was also a satisfactory level of agreement. In comparison to a flow based on constant characteristics, the flow with variable thermal conductivity is shown to be significantly different and realistic. The temperature of the fluid grew in direct proportion to the thermophoresis motion, buoyancy ratio, and Brownian motion parameters. According to the findings, the slippery porous surface may be employed efficiently in chemical and mechanical sectors that deal with a variety of very viscous flows.

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to determine the publication rate of free paper abstracts presented by the postgraduate (PG) trainees and determine the reasons for non-publication. A mixed methods study was conducted. PG trainees presenting free papers at the at the Pakistan Society of Chemical Pathologist conferences from 2012 to 2018 were included. Three databases were searched to identify if the abstracts were published or not. The PG trainee authors of abstracts not published as full manuscript, were surveyed to determine the barriers and challenges in publishing a manuscript. Results The average rate of full manuscript publication was 51.8% (n = 93/177) for the abstracts presented by the PG trainees. Publication rate was higher for oral (n = 73/119, 61.3%) compared to poster presentation (n = 20/58, 34.5%). Most of the manuscripts were published after two years of abstract presentation. The survey showed that the main challenges to publishing an abstract were lack of time, limited scientific writing or submission skills, lack of funding for publication fee, and negative or statistically non-significant results. This reflects a need to arrange workshops/symposia for the PG trainees of low-middle income country (LMIC) to enhance their writing and time management skills and improve the full manuscript publication rate from LMICs.

Abstract Various aspects of innovation management have been discussed in literature over the past few decades. Most of the innovation management frameworks have been formulated by undertaking studies in the developed world and lack the industry/culture specific focus. In this paper, we revisit the generic innovation management studies to develop an innovation management framework for highlighting the factors affecting innovation specifically at the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector of Pakistan. A detailed literature review has been conducted to identify the factors included in the past innovation management models. To identify the factors specific for Pakistan, senior-level professionals, working at the Pakistani ICT organizations were interviewed based on a survey. A comparative analysis of the innovation management frameworks for Pakistan against those previously found in literature revealed interesting similarities and differences. Based on the study findings, an innovation management framework is developed that highlights the present factors which are important for innovation in the ICT sector for Pakistan. This framework can be used by Pakistan and other underdeveloped countries for improving their innovation in ICT sectors in particular and other sectors in general.

The research aims to produce a teaching style application product in health sports Physical Education (PE) teachers based on interactive multimedia. This research is expected to overcome difficulties for Physical Education teachers who have been on the use of teaching styles carried out by Physical Education teachers only centered on teachers continuously and have not fully applied variations in teaching styles so that it causes learners to become bored and can inhibit the potential that exists in learners. In other respects, the lack of knowledge that Physical Education teachers have on teaching style, and the low interest of teachers to read books and find sources for teaching styles. The research stages are; (1) The pre-development stage, at this stage, needs analysis is carried out through a survey of the level of tool needs for users, instrument preparation and consultation with experts. (2) The development phase of developing the product "Teaching Style Application" starting from the initial product development of manuscripts (manuals), designing work and application design, small group trials, stage I improvements, large group trials, phase II improvements, mass production. (3) The evaluation stage of product results implementation and product desimination.

Based volleyball learning model e-book- and developed it as a sports lecturer's guide in teaching courses volleyball The resulting products are learning models volleyball learning materials volleyball based E-Book-. This research was developed by adapting the Borg & Gall educational research and development model. The development procedure used includes several stages: 1) recognizing the content of the product being developed, 2) developing the initial product of the game, 3) expert validation, 4) testing field The data analysis technique used in this research is done in two ways, namely quantitative and qualitative. Based on media trials in the field, the following results were obtained: 1) The media developed was very valid (good) with an average media validation questionnaire by experts of 92.39%. 2) The learning media developed is very practical, by getting a very good response where the average questionnaire is 92.12% which gives a positive response, 3) the E-Book media developed is quite effective, where the completeness of student learning outcomes reaches 87.19 %. From these results, it shows that the animation-based E-Book media that was developed is very feasible to be used in supporting learning activities in the classroom.

The use of audio visual media to evaluate the series of long jump movements can be one alternative in determining learning variations that are in accordance with the ability of students. The methods used in this study use development research. Research in this learning model uses quantitative approaches as well as using the Research & Development (R&D) development model of Borg and Gall. The product development procedure can be described as follows: a) Determination of ideas, b) Model making, c) Evaluation.The subject used in the athletics course of the Long Jump branch in FIK UNIMED students is qualitative data, because it is expressed by sentences and not numbers, while the quantitative data is obtained by converting qualitative data by giving a score to the data that has been collected.

The recent advancements in the field of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) have a substantial impact on modern day technology by digitizing each and everything related to human life and open the doors to the next generation Software Technology (Soft Tech). VR and AR technology provide astonishing immersive contents with the help of high quality stitched panoramic contents and 360° imagery that widely used in the education, gaming, entertainment, and production sector. The immersive quality of VR and AR contents are greatly dependent on the perceptual quality of panoramic or 360° images, in fact a minor visual distortion can significantly degrade the overall quality. Thus, to ensure the quality of constructed panoramic contents for VR and AR applications, numerous Stitched Image Quality Assessment (SIQA) methods have been proposed to assess the quality of panoramic contents before using in VR and AR. In this survey, we provide a detailed overview of the SIQA literature and exclusively focus on objective SIQA methods presented till date. For better understanding, the objective SIQA methods are classified into two classes namely Full-Reference SIQA and No-Reference SIQA approaches. Each class is further categorized into traditional and deep learning-based methods and examined their performance for SIQA task. Further, we shortlist the publicly available benchmark SIQA datasets and evaluation metrices used for quality assessment of panoramic contents. In last, we highlight the current challenges in this area based on the existing SIQA methods and suggest future research directions that need to be target for further improvement in SIQA domain.

Background: Simple nephrectomy is a technique of removing the kidney from within the gerota’s fascia and is usually for a non-functioning kidney. While for renal tumors, radical nephrectomy is done, which involves the removal of the kidney with gerota’s fascia along with the ureter. Histopathology of patients who undergo simple nephrectomy sometime reveals renal malignancy. Such patients often need further treatment as simple nephrectomy in such cases is mostly suboptimal. The number of studies reporting tumors in simple nephrectomy specimens is limited. We aim to report single-center pathological findings in nephrectomy specimens from patients treated for non-functioning kidneys due to renal stone disease. Methodology: The medical record of patients (n=210) who underwent simple nephrectomy between 2014 and 2021 at the Kidney Centre Postgraduate Training Institute due to renal stone disease was reviewed retrospectively. Results: The total number of patients undergoing simple nephrectomy for non-functioning kidneys due to stone disease was 210. Of those patients, 117 were males, and 93 were females. The mean age was 45.33 ± 17.65 years. The histopathology report of specimens revealed renal malignancy in 10 patients (4.76%), xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis in 11 patients, tuberculosis of the kidney in 7 patients, and chronic pyelonephritis in 182 patients. Conclusion: In conclusion, the prevalence of renal malignancy in patients undergoing simple nephrectomy is significantly high.

In this study, the antioxidant and antimicrobial potentials of the ethanol extract of the aerial parts of Lepidium spinosum Ard., which is distributed in many regions of the world, were determined. The aerial parts of the plant were dried, powdered and extracted with ethanol. Total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) of the plant extract were determined using Rel Assay Diagnostics kits. Antimicrobial activities of the plant extract were determined against standard bacterial and fungal strains by agar dilution method. As a result of the studies, the TAS value of the plant extract was determined as 4.550±0.132, the TOS value as 12.610±0.221, and the OSI value as 0.277±0.007. In addition, it has been found to be effective at 25-200 µg/mL against standard bacterial strains and 100-200 µg/mL concentrations against fungal strains. As a result, it was determined that L. spinosum used in our study could be a natural antioxidant and antimicrobial source. In this context, it is thought that natural material may be used in pharmacological designs.

Abstract The choices of consumer towards food have been changed. Consumer prefers to eat food which is not only safe but also nutritious. Now a day, they like to eat the food which promote their health and help in minimizing nutrition related health hazards. Rice is a staple food in many countries, but most emerging issue is that rice is deficit in minerals. Rice ranks second among cereals in dietary uses around the world. Rice is deficit in iron (Fe) zinc (Zn) and these are important micronutrients for infants, men and women. Fortification of rice with iron and zinc would help to minimize nutrient deficient disorders among humans. Present study is aimed to introduce nutrients rich rice for consumers and also to encourage food-fortification organizations for diverting their focus on rice fortification. In south Asian countries, micronutrient deficiency especially Fe and Zn deficiency is very common. The rice because of its use as a staple food can be utilized as a carrier medium for transporting micronutrients from plants sources to human beings. Hence, rice fortification with microminerals can prove as a miracle for the virtual eradication of nutrition related diseases in humans.

The main objective of this paper is to develop the cosine and settheoretic similarity measures for the generalized multipolar neutrosophic soft set (GmPNSS). We discuss some basic operations with their properties for GmPNSS. A decision-making approach has been established by using cosine and set-theoretic similarity measures. Also, we introduce the multipolar neutrosophic soft weighted average (mPNSWA) operator and develop a decisionmaking approach based on mPNSWA. Furthermore, we use to develop techniques to solve multicriteria decision-making problems. Finally, the advantages, effectiveness, flexibility, and comparative analysis of the algorithms are given with prevailing methods.

Medium carbon steel is widely consumed by various industrial sectors due to its attractive set of mechanical properties and low cost, but it experiences deterioration when exposed to a corrosive environment. In the present study, Aloe Vera plant extract was studied as a green corrosion inhibitor for medium carbon steel in an acidic medium. The presence of inhibitive compounds in Aloe Vera plant extract was determined by FTIR. Moreover, the inhibition efficiency was determined through gravimetric analysis and electrochemical analysis. The results show that the Aloe Vera plant extract provided inhibition efficiency of more than 90% in both gravimetric and electrochemical analyses. Furthermore, the shift in polarization curves depicts that this plant extract is a mixed type inhibitor acting as an anodic and cathodic inhibitor. Overall, Aloe Vera plant extract provides excellent corrosion inhibition to medium carbon steel in the H2SO4 environment and can be used as a green corrosion inhibitor for mitigating internal corrosion of pipelines and storage tanks.

Abstract There are contradictory data regarding the effect of intermittent pneumatic compression (IPC) on the incidence of deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) and heart failure (HF) decompensation in critically ill patients. This study evaluated the effect of adjunctive use of IPC on the rate of incident DVT and ventilation-free days among critically ill patients with HF. In this pre-specified secondary analysis of the PREVENT trial (N = 2003), we compared the effect of adjunctive IPC added to pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis (IPC group), with pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis alone (control group) in critically ill patients with HF. Abstract In an uncertain atmosphere, the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) flow in three principal flows of the third grade fluid across two parallel plates is presented. Fuzzy differential equations are constructed by manipulating dimensionless differential equations. The prime purpose of the current article is to use a semi-analytical approach fuzzy-based Adomian decomposition method to achieve numerical results for nonlinear FDEs with fuzzy boundary conditions. Triangular fuzzy numbers are used in fuzzy BCs with help of $$\alpha {\text{-cut}}$$ α -cut approach. This strategy is linked to the membership function. In a graphic and tabular depiction, the effect of $$\alpha$$ α and other constraints on fuzzy velocity profiles is explored. The current findings are in good agreement with their previous numerical and analytical results in a crisp environment.

Abstract Background Jarcho-Levin syndrome (JLS) is a genetic condition that constitutes specific vertebral anomalies combined with coastal or thoracic anomalies due to specific gene mutations. Although the condition is associated typically to Puerto-Ricans, we describe the novel case of JLS in a Pakistani family that presented with respiratory distress secondary to the condition. Case presentation The case is a full-term girl that had a webbed neck with an undefined chest deformity. Radiology showed kyphoscoliosis and a crablike chest. Early identification of these high morbidity conditions is key to allow for optimal treatment and improved outcomes. Conclusions We have provided a brief breakdown of the management principles of the condition and more than 80 years after the first case of Jarcho-Levin syndrome was reported, we present the diagnostic criterion for JLS.

Z-soft rough covering models are important generalizations of classical rough set theory to deal with uncertain, inexact and more complex real world problems. So far, the existing study describes various forms of approximation operators and their properties by means of soft neighborhoods. In this paper, we propose the notion of Z-soft rough covering fixed point set (briefly, Z-SRCFP-set) induced by covering soft set. We study the conditions that the family of Z-SRCFP-sets become lattice structure. For any covering soft set, the Z-SRCFP-set is a complete and distributive lattice, and at the same time, it is also a double p-algebra. Furthermore, when soft neighborhood forms a partition of the universe, then Z-SRCFP-set is both a boolean lattice and a double stone algebra. Some main theoretical results are obtained and investigated with the help of examples.

Abstract Background Recent surveys, studies and reviews in urban areas of Pakistan have highlighted the impacts of social inequities on access of women and children to health services for women and children in Pakistan. Objectives The Urban Slum Profiles and coverage surveys were conducted between 2017 and 2019. The objective of the profiles was to obtain an updated listing of slums and other underserved areas, and to better understand current vaccination and health service coverage in these areas. Utilising findings from these studies, this paper aims to better understand the gender and social determinants of health that are giving rise to health inequalities in the slums. Methods The Urban Slum Profiles adopted a mixed methods approach combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. The study was comprised of two main survey approaches of Urban Slum Profiles and Immunisation Coverage Survey in 4431 urban poor areas of the 10 most highly populated cities of Pakistan. Results Findings are classified into six analytic categories of (1) access to health services, (2) female workforce participation, (3) gender-friendly health services, (4) access to schools and literacy, (5) social connections, and (6) autonomy of decision making. Out of a national sample of 14,531 children in urban poor areas of 10 cities, the studies found that just over half of the children are fully immunised (54%) and 14% of children had received zero doses of vaccine. There are large shortages of health facilities and female health workforce in the slums, with significant gaps in the quality of health infrastructure, which all serve to limit both demand for, and supply of, health services for women and children. Results demonstrate low availability of schools, low levels of female literacy and autonomy over decision making, limited knowledge of the benefits of vaccination, and few social connections outside the home. All these factors interact and reinforce existing gender norms and low levels of health literacy and service access. Conclusion The Urban Slum profiles and coverage studies provide an opportunity to introduce gender transformative strategies that include expansion of a female health workforce, development of costed urban health action plans, and an enabling policy environment to support community organisation and more equitable health service delivery access.

Drug resistance against common antibiotics is a leading cause of treatment failure in UTIs.Objective: This study was conducted to check the prevalence of antimicrobial susceptibility against uropathogens and identify the best treatment option against UTIs.Methods: In this cross-sectional study, urine samples (n = 1000) were collected and cultured for pure bacterial growth by using cysteine–lactose–electrolyte-deficient (CLED) media. After physical and biochemical characterization, antibacterial susceptibility was performed by the Kirby–Bauer disk diffusion method.Results: Uropathogenic bacteria were successfully isolated in 57% (n = 572) of total tested samples (n = 1000). Escherichia coli 51.2% (n = 293/572), Klebsiella species 15.4% (n = 88/572), Enterococcus species 15.4% (n = 88/572), Pseudomonas species 9.4% (n = 54/572), Staphylococcus aureus 3.2% (n = 18/572), coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CoNS) 3.0% (n = 17/572) and Proteus species 2.4% (n = 14/572) were the most prevalent organism in UTIs. Prevalence of Gram-negative rods (GNRs) was 78.5% (n = 449/572) among UTI patients as compared to Gram-positive cocci (GPCs) 21.5% (n = 123/572). Escherichia coli 65.3% (n = 293/449), Klebsiella species 19.6% (n = 88/449), Pseudomonas species 12.0% (54/449) and Proteus species 3.1% (n = 14/449) were the most prevalent GNRs in UTIs, while Enterococcus species 71.5% (n = 88/123), Staphylococcus aureus 14.6% (n = 18/123) and coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CoNS) 13.8% (17/123) were the most prevalent GPCs in UTIs. The majority of isolated uropathogens showed resistance against routinely used antibiotics. However, teicoplanin and linezolid were the most effective drugs against GPCs and piperacillin/tazobactam, meropenem and imipenem were the most effective drugs against GNRs. Nitrofurantoin and fosfomycin were shown to be most effective against both GNRs and GPCs.Conclusion: In conclusion, Escherichia coli (GNRs) and Enterococcus species (GPCs) are the most prevalent organisms among UTIs patients, which are shown to be antibiotic-resistant to the most commonly used antibiotics. Pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysm (PAPA) is a potentially fatal, albeit rare cause of hemoptysis. With a varied etiology and debatable management, time is the essence in its treatment. We present a case of a post lobectomy PAPA with recurrence of malignancy, managed via endovascular approach in a low resource setting where an ideal hardware was not available.
