Abstract: [Einführung:] In diesem Handbuch werden exemplarisch drei konkrete Experimentiersettings beschrieben, welche die Themenfelder Nachhaltigkeit und Bionik unter Anwendung des 3D-Drucks in den Fokus rücken. Die Zielgruppe der vorliegenden Materialien sind Lehrende sowie Schülerinnen und Schüler der Sekundarstufe II im Bereich Grundkurs. Die Experimentiersettings sind primär für den Einsatz im allgemeinbildenden Fach Technik der Sekundarstufe II konzipiert. Für den Fall, dass die Experimentiersettings in einem anderen Kontext verwendet werden, müssen abhängig von der Zielgruppe und dem Unterrichtsziel eventuell Anpassungen an den hier beispielhaft ausgearbeiteten Unterrichtsvorhaben vorgenommen werden. Zudem bedarf die Umsetzung möglicherweise einer Anpassung an schulinterne Curricula, in denen die Unterrichtsvorhaben aufeinander abgestimmt sein müssen, sowie an die vorherrschenden Rahmenbedingungen. Dennoch ermöglichen die nachfolgend detailliert beschriebenen Inhalte und Materialien Anwenderinnen und Anwendern, das jeweilige Experiment ohne größere Vorbereitungszeit durchzuführen. Jeder Abschnitt ist dabei gleich aufgebaut und bietet eine kurze Einführung, die Verortung im Kernlehrplan und eine beschreibende Anleitung zur Durchführung des jeweiligen Experiments.

4. FlexLabplus – Mobile Experimentiersets zur Anwendung des 3D-Drucks in der Bildung

Abstract: Ziel des Vorhabens FlexLabplus war die Entwicklung von dezentralen, zielgruppenübergreifenden MINT-Angeboten zum Themenfeld NEUE PRODUKTIONSMETHODEN. In diesem Zusammenhang ist das Interesse auf den umgangssprachlich genannten 3D-Druck gefallen. Die Bezeichnung 3D-Druck beinhaltet in diesem Zusammenhang alle additiven bzw. generativen Fertigungsverfahren. Der 3D-Druck gilt als eine Schlüsseltechnologie der sogenannten Industrie 4.0 und verfügt über eine große Anzahl thematischer Schnittstellen mit starkem MINT-Bezug1. Im Rahmen des Projektes wurden mobile Experimentiersets entwickelt, die den 3D-Druck in den Fokus rücken. Die Sets enthalten neben technischen Komponenten auch didaktische Materialien, die es den Anwendenden ermöglichen, die Experimente ohne größere Vorbereitungszeiten zu verwenden. Bei der Konzeption der Sets wurden daher die Anforderungen der Lehrenden an die technische und didaktische Ausgestaltung der Sets früh im Prozess berücksichtigt. Darüber hinaus wurden Fortbildungsseminare konzipiert, die interessiertes Lehrpersonal in die Nutzung der Sets einführen. Die didaktischen Materialien sind exemplarisch für den Einsatz im allgemeinbildenden Fach "Technik" der Sekundarstufe II konzipiert. Wenn die mobilen Experimentiersets in einem anderen als den vorgesehenen Kontext verwendet werden, müssen, abhängig von der Zielgruppe und dem Unterrichtsziel, eventuell Anpassungen vorgenommen werden. 5. Ausgewählte Verfahren zur Optimierung des Ressourceneinsatzes und Flexibilisierung in der Fertigung

Abstract: Dieser Band fokussiert innovative Ansätze zur Optimierung von Fertigungsprozessen. Im ersten Beitrag stellt Joachim Berlak ein Projekt zur Entwicklung und Erprobung einer ereignisorientierten Produktionsplanung und -steuerung vor. Hierbei werden cloud-basierte Services eingesetzt, um unter Erfüllung der Datensicherheitsanforderungen auch für KMU eine Termin- und Kapazitätsplanung in Quasi-Echtzeit zu ermöglichen und schnell auf Veränderungen in der Produktion reagieren zu können. Die Überprüfung des Konzepts erfolgt am Beispiel einer Brillenglasfertigung. Danach erläutert Tilko Dietert die Potenziale und erforderlichen Rahmenbedingungen in Bezug auf die Fertigung von hochbelasteten Kunststoffbauteilen im Sandwich-Schäumverfahren mittels Ein-Komponenten- Spritzgießmaschine. Dabei kann das immer wichtiger werdende, geringe Bauteilgewicht mit der Großserientauglichkeit des Fertigungsverfahrens vereint werden. Als Fallbeispiel betrachtet er die Herstellung der Hartkomponente einer Federunterlage für ein PKW-Fahrwerk. Im dritten Beitrag beleuchtet Knuth Götz die bisherigen und zukünftigen Entwicklungen der additiven Fertigung von Elektronik am Beispiel der Automobilbranche, die eine integrierte Produktion von Träger und Schaltung zum Ziel hat. Er geht dabei auf den grundsätzlichen Nutzen sowie den Stand der Technik ein und betrachtet wesentliche Aspekte wie Strukturierung, Schichtaufbau, Stromtragfähigkeit, Haftfestigkeit, Lebensdauer sowie Aufbau- und Verbindungstechnik. Zum Abschluss beschreiben Tommy Schafran und Gunter Kullmer den Einsatz additiver Fertigungsverfahren zur Lösung aktueller und zukünftiger Herausforderungen anhand von zwei Fallbeispielen. Im ersten Fall kann durch den kombinierten Einsatz von Bionik und additiver Fertigung in ressourcenschonender Weise ein praxisgerechter Gelenkarmroboter in Leichtbauweise hergestellt werden. Im zweiten Fall können personal-, zeit- und kostenintensive Fertigungsprozesse in der Orthopädietechnik durch die Integration digitaler Techniken und der additiven Fertigung deutlich effizienter gestaltet werden, bei gleichzeitiger Wahrung der Individualität der Produkte.

Abstract: type:Journal Article, Although the nonlinear response of solids in such phenomena as ion slowing and second harmonic generation has been studied since long ago, to our knowledge there has not existed a quantum theory of the inelastic scattering of charges by solids beyond the first Born approximation. In this paper we relate the inelastic cross section in the second Born approximation to the order Z3 to the quadratic retarded density-response function in the same (but far less trivial) fashion it has been known for the first Born approximation, deriving by this a formula applicable to describe the electron and positron energy-loss spectroscopy. The complete account of recoil is preserved. Our general formalism neither relies on a specific approximation to the dielectric response (such as the random phase approximation) nor is it restricted to scattering by a homogeneous electron gas: it is “exact” in the sense of inclusion of exchange and correlation and is applicable to targets of arbitrary symmetry. Abstract: International audience; The development of cost-effective, high-performance, and robust bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting remains highly desirable yet quite challenging. Here, by selecting appreciate precursors of dopamine and a Co-containing metal-organic framework of ZIF-67, we subtly couple their reaction processes to develop a facile approach for the synthesis of a hollow CoP nanostructure with N-doped carbon skeleton (H-CoP@NC). Benefiting from the highly porous nanostructure and conductive carbon skeleton, H-CoP@NC is capable of working as highly active and durable bifunctional electrocatalyst for both hydrogen and oxygen evolution reaction. When further used as the electrocatalyst for overall water splitting, H-CoP@NC delivers excellent activity (cell voltage of 1.72 V at a current density of 10 mA cm(-2)), close to that of the noble-metal-based benchmark catalyst couple of Pt/C parallel to RuO2. Our work thus provides new insights into the development of transitional metal phosphides based hollow hybrid nanostructures, particularly those with multiple functionalities in sustainable energy conversion technologies and systems.

Abstract: International audience; Sodium emissions during pulverized-coal combustion (PCC) are known to result in severeash-related operating issues of coal furnaces, e.g., fouling, slagging and corrosion. To relieve these issues and advance the clean utilization technologies of coal, a better understanding of thefundamental mechanisms driving the formation and transformation of the sodium species is required.In the present study, sodium emissions have been simulated in both one-dimensional (1D) premixed/diffusion flames of the coal volatile and an early-stage two-dimensional (2D)pulverized-coal flame. The properties of Loy Yang brown coal are used. The DRM22 skeletal mechanism is employed for volatile-gas combustion, and the reaction of sodium species is modeled by a detailed mechanism encompassing the elements Na, C, H, O, S and Cl. The compositions of the volatile fuels are obtained from the chemical percolation devolatilization (CPD) model, including CH4, C2H2, CO, H2, CO2 and H2O. The initial species of Na, Cl and S in the volatile gas is set to be NaOH, HCl and SO2, respectively. The transformation characteristics of 12 sodium species are investigated in both the 1D volatile flames and the 2D pulverized-coal flame. The response of the sodium chemistry to volatile-gas combustion is analyzed under fuel-lean, stoichiometric and fuel-rich conditions. Na, NaOH and NaCl are found to be the major sodium species during the combustion. Parametric studies with HCl, SO2 or both species removed from the volatile are then performed to investigate their effects on the sodium transformation characteristics in both the 1D and 2D flames. The results show that HCl has a much stronger ability to react with sodium species than SO2.

Abstract: Ce dossier vise a questionner le paradoxe de la visibilite et de l’invisibilite des migrants chinois et de leurs descendants en France. Si la visibilite de la population issue de l’immigration chinoise en France ne peut etre niee dans le paysage urbain de certains quartiers de concentration commerciale, entrepreneuriale ou de residence, ou lors d’evenements culturels comme les defiles du Nouvel An lunaire, on parle pourtant souvent de « minorite invisible » ou « discrete ». Cela fait moins reference a son imperceptibilite dans la ville que, d'une part, a une forme d'invisibilite de l'histoire et de la diversite de cette population, et, d'autre part, a sa marginalite sociale et politique. Dans quelle mesure les perceptions exterieures et les lieux communs assignent-ils ces personnes d’origine chinoise a des formes de visibilite et d’invisibilite ? Jusqu’a quel point les processus de visibilisation et d’invisibilisation resultent-ils de strategies volontaires de la part de ces migrants et de leurs descendants ? C’est pour avancer sur ces questions que ce dossier rassemble les travaux issus de terrains de recherche emergents, en particulier ceux realises par de jeunes chercheurs ou des acteurs de la societe civile. Les articles publies sont le fruit de trois ans d’un travail collectif realise dans le cadre du projet « Chinois.es en Ile-de-France » finance par la Ville de Paris.

Abstract: Background With up to 200 published contributions, the GreenLab mathematical model of plant growth, developed since 2000 under Sino-French co-operation for agronomic applications, is descended from the structural models developed in the AMAP unit that characterize the development of plants and encompass them in a conceptual mathematical framework. The model also incorporates widely recognized crop model concepts (thermal time, light use efficiency and light interception), adapting them to the level of the individual plant. Scope Such long-term research work calls for an overview at some point. That is the objective of this review paper, which retraces the main history of the model’s development and its current status, highlighting three aspects. (1) What are the key features of the GreenLab model? (2) How can the model be a guide for defining relevant measurement strategies and experimental protocols? (3) What kind of applications can such a model address? This last question is answered using case studies as illustrations, and through the Discussion. Conclusions The results obtained over several decades illustrate a key feature of the GreenLab model: owing to its concise mathematical formulation based on the factorization of plant structure, it comes along with dedicated methods and experimental protocols for its parameter estimation, in the deterministic or stochastic cases, at single-plant or population levels. Besides providing a reliable statistical framework, this intense and long-term research effort has provided new insights into the internal trophic regulations of many plant species and new guidelines for genetic improvement or optimization of crop systems.

Abstract: Urban violence and threats to personal safety are everyday issues of shared concern for Chinese migrants in France. They push Chinese migrants to act as local residents and to interact with the host country in various and unexpected ways, whether openly or inconspicuously, in order to improve their living environment and negotiate their place in the host society. Drawing on an ethnography of Chinese immigrants living in the banlieues of Paris and their everyday social practices in relation to the issues of violence and insecurity, this article documents the strategies of everyday resistance used by Chinese immigrants, grounded in their local knowledge. In a shift toward further local participation, they perform these actions as local residents, resulting in a de facto citizenship.

Abstract: International audience; The potassium vapor released during the combustion of biomass are known to result in serious ash deposition, fouling and corrosion issues of biomass furnaces. To develop potassium control technologies to mitigate these issues and achieve clean utilization of biomass fuel, a better understanding of the fundamental formation and transformation mechanisms of potassium in biomass combustion is essentially required. In the present study, potassium emissions during pulverized-biomass combustion, for the first time, have been simulated in both one-dimensional (1D) premixed/diffusion flames of the biomass volatile and an early-stage two-dimensional (2D) pulverized-biomass flame. The properties of corn straw are used. The volatile-gas combustion is described by the DRM22 skeletal mechanism, while the homogeneous reaction of potassium species is modeled using a detailed mechanism encompassing the elements K, C, H, O, Cl and S. The initial species of K, Cl and S in the volatile gas is set to be KOH, HCl and SO2, respectively. The transformation characteristics of the potassium species are numerically investigated in both the 1D and 2D flames. Results show that KOH is the most significant potassium product under fuel-lean, stoichiometric and fuel-rich conditions, while the productions of sulfurous and chloric potassium species are secondary. Parametric studies with HCl, SO2 or both species replaced with N2 in volatile gas are then performed to study their impacts on potassium emission characteristics in both the 1D and 2D flames. The results indicate that HCl has a stronger ability to react with potassium species than SO2.

Abstract: International audience; This paper is concerned with the recovery of Leaf Area Index (LAI) time series in intense agriculture areas from moderate resolution remote sensing data (MODIS or SENTINEL). Although their resolution limits an analysis at a parcel level, their high temporal rate enables to monitor land use/land cover through the temporal evolution of key biophysical parameters as LAI. However in practice, frame-by-frame estimation is unsatisfactory since the quality of each single data is subjected to undesirable effects due to atmosphere disturbance, sun geometry, viewing geometry, etc. These effects lead to a lack of temporal consistency of resulting time series. The reconstruction of such time series is delicate using conventional interpolation methods since underlying physical processes are not taken into account. In this paper, we tackle this issue by exploiting the prior information of a plant growth model, namely GreenLab, using stochastic data assimilation techniques. Our experiments on challenging situations, such as few data and fragmented landscapes, demonstrate the approach is robust on various challenging situations and enables to extract additional information about observed fields..

Under specific conditions, the continuous-wave significantly increases the stability of the harmonic mode-locked regime. This occurs for a discrete set of wavelengths and below a critical injected power.

Abstract: International audience; We have performed a numerical simulation study of a hybrid regime of anomalous-dispersion-fiber lasers inwhich passive mode locking occurs simultaneously with the regime of regular undamped spikes induced by anintracavity saturable absorber. Stabilization and reproducibility of the laser radiation is provided by a fiber opticaldelay line due to which each subsequent spike is formed from the seed radiation of the previous one. The transientevolution and steady-state generation are analyzed. It is found that the number of ultrashort pulses in the steady-state generation depends on the initial conditions of the transient process. In the investigated generation, thespatial-temporal concentration of radiation energy is due to both passive mode locking andQ-switch operation.The hybrid regime is of interest for obtaining reproducible high-energy light pulses

Abstract: International audience; Combining polarizing-filtered planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) with simultaneous laser absorption, quantitative laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and two-color pyrometry, the potassium release during the combustion of biomass fuels (corn straw and poplar) has been investigated. The temporal release profiles of volatile atomic potassium and potassium compounds from a corn straw show a single peak. The woody biomass, poplar, produces a dual-maxima distribution for potassium and potassium compounds. For both biomass samples, the highest concentrations of released atomic potassium and potassium compounds occur in the devolatilization stage. The mass ratios between volatile atomic potassium and potassium compounds in the corn straw and poplar cases are 0.77% and 0.79%, respectively. These values agree well with chemical equilibrium predictions that 0.68% of total potassium will be in atomic form. A two-step kinetic model of potassium release has been developed, which gives better predictions during the devolatilization stage than the existing single-step model. Finally, a map of potassium transformation processes during combustion is developed. Starting with inorganic and organic potassium, there are eight proposed transformation pathways including five proposed release pathways that occur during the combustion. The pathways describe the transformation of potassium between the fuel volatile matter, char, and ash. Potassium release during the devolatilization stage is due to pyrolysis and evaporation; during the char burnout stage, potassium release is due to char oxidation and decomposition; and during the ash cooking stage, potassium release is caused by reactions between the ash and H2O in the co-flow.

Abstract: International audience; Functional-structural plant models (FSPMs) generally simulate plant development and growth at the level of individual organs (leaves, flowers, internodes, etc.). Parameters that are not directly measurable, such as the sink strength of organs, can be estimated inversely by fitting the weights of organs along an axis (organic series) with the corresponding model output. To accommodate intracanopy variability among individual plants, stochastic FSPMs have been built by introducing the randomness in plant development; this presents a challenge in comparing model output and experimental data in parameter estimation since the plant axis contains individual organs with different amounts and weights. To achieve model calibration, the interaction between plant development and growth is disentangled by first computing the occurrence probabilities of each potential site of phytomer, as defined in the developmental model (potential structure). On this basis, the mean organic series is computed analytically to fit the organ-level target data. This process is applied for plants with continuous and rhythmic development simulated with different development parameter sets. The results are verified by Monte-Carlo simulation. Calibration tests are performed both in silico and on real plants. The analytical organic series are obtained for both continuous and rhythmic cases, and they match well with the results from Monte-Carlo simulation, and vice versa. This fitting process works well for both the simulated and real data sets; thus, the proposed method can solve the source-sink functions of stochastic plant architectures through a simplified approach to plant sampling. This work presents a generic method for estimating the sink parameters of a stochastic FSPM using statistical organ-level data, and it provides a method for sampling stems. The current work breaks a bottleneck in the application of FSPMs to real plants, creating the opportunity for broad applications.

Abstract: International audience; In the past decade, with the power of graphical boards, visualization of virtual natural scene become popular in multimedia applications. It usually relies on degraded virtual single plant geometrical representations and massive use of textures. Such scenes show however poor variability in terms of the number of species and individual plasticity. They also show strong animation constraints, many limited to viewpoint moves, ignoring growth processes. We propose here a frame for future works related to virtual plant visualization. It aims to drop down the classical geometrical descriptions of individual plants for the benefits of functional representations, aggregated up to a single crown. We then show that a wide range of parametric virtual crown shapes can be built from the knowledge of leaf area. Moreover, production outputs computed at each simulation time step by crop models or FSPM models define strong constraints in the organ positioning. Such constraints can be used to build hierarchical virtual geometries underlying the plant main axis and its crown decomposition according to its axis typology. Conversely, similar representations can also be generated from an exhaustive representation of virtual or real trees. On such plants, we first build a point cloud from the organ 3D coordinates. A statistical hierarchical dynamic clustering analysis can then be applied to the leaf cloud. It allows obtaining the statistical ellipsoid decomposition that can then be used for comparisons or shape fitting optimization. We finally introduce some technical elements showing that basic 3D shapes used for functional visualization (cone frustum and ellipsoids) can be fully generated and rendered by GPU techniques. As a summary, simulated plant functional visualization appears as a promising research track, freeing models from complex and costly geometrical computations. These representations also propose a new frame of discussions on tree crown modeling and descriptions for diagnosis purposes.

Abstract: International audience; We report an experimental observation of staircase pulses generated from an Er:Yb co-doped fiber laser operat-ing in the anomalous dispersion regime. The staircase pulses consist of two distinct square pulses associated withdifferent wavelengths in a dual peak spectrum and they exhibit particular temporal characteristics. To establish atheory behind the experimental results, we simulate numerically the fiber oscillator by using a master equationand taking into consideration the gain inhomogeneities as well as other nonlinear variables.

Abstract: International audience; The acquisition of language involves the functional specialization of several cortical regions. Connectivity between these brain regions may also change with the development of language. Various studies have demonstrated that the arcuate fasciculus was essential for language function. Vocabulary learning is one of the most important skills in language acquisition. In the present longitudinal study, we explored the influence of vocabulary development on the anatomical properties of the arcuate fasciculus. Seventy-nine Chinese children participated in this study. Between age 4 and age 10, they were administered the same vocabulary task repeatedly. Following a previous study, children's vocabulary developmental trajectories were clustered into three subgroups (consistently good, catch-up, consistently poor). At age 14, diffusion tensor imaging data were collected. Using ROI-based tractography, the anterior, posterior and direct segments of the bilateral arcuate fasciculus were delineated in each child's native space. Group comparisons showed a significantly reduced fractional anisotropy in the left arcuate fasciculus of children in the consistently poor group, in particular in the posterior and direct segments of the arcuate fasciculus. No group differences were observed in the right hemisphere, nor in the left anterior segment. Further regression analyses showed that the rate of vocabulary development, rather than the initial vocabulary size, was a specific predictor of the left arcuate fasciculus connectivity.; http://www.lscp.net/persons/ramus/docs/DS18.pdf

Abstract: International audience; Chinese is a logographic language that is different from alphabetic languages in visual and semantic complexity. Thus far, it is still unclear whether Chinese children with dyslexia show similar disruption of white matter pathways as in alphabetic languages. The present study focused on the alteration of white matter pathways in Chinese children with dyslexia. Using diffusion tensor imaging tractography, the bilateral arcuate fasciculus (AF-anterior, AF-posterior and AF-direct segments), inferior fronto-occipital fasciculus (IFOF) and inferior longitudinal fasciculus (ILF) were delineated in each individual's native space. Compared with age-matched controls, Chinese children with dyslexia showed reduced fractional anisotropy in the left AF-direct and the left ILF. Further regression analyses revealed a functional dissociation between the left AF-direct and the left ILF. The AF-direct tract integrity was associated with phonological processing skill, an ability important for reading in all writing systems, while the ILF integrity was associated with morphological processing skill, an ability more strongly recruited for Chinese reading. In conclusion, the double disruption locus in Chinese children with dyslexia, and the functional dissociation between dorsal and ventral pathways reflect both universal and specific properties of reading in Chinese.

Accordingly, we count the number of full-rank integer lattices $L \subseteq {\mathbb{Z}}^n$ such that ${\mathbb{Z}}^n/L$ is cyclic and of order at most $V$, and deduce that these co-cyclic lattices are dominant among all integer lattices: their natural density is $(\zeta(6) \prod_{k=4}^n \zeta(k))^{-1} \approx 85\%$. Abstract: International audience; Background: Meditation has been increasingly evaluated as an important complementary therapeutic tool for the treatment of depression. The present study employed resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) to examine the effect of body mind relaxation meditation induction (BMRMI) on the brain activity of depressed patients and to investigate possible mechanisms of action for this complex intervention.Method: 21 major depressive disorder patients (MDDs) and 24 age and gender-matched healthy controls (HCs) received rs-fMRI scans at baseline and after listening to a selection of audio designed to induce body-mind relaxation meditation. The rs-fMRI data were analyzed using Matlab toolbox to obtain the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) of the BOLD signal for the whole brain. A mixed-design repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed On the whole brain to Find which brain regions were affected by the BMRMI An additional functional connectivity analysis was used to identify any atypical connection patterns after the BMRMI.Results: After the BMRMI experience, both the MDDs and HCs showed decreased ALFF values in the bilateral frontal pole (BA10). Additionally, increased functional connectivity from the right dorsal medial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC) to the left dorsal lateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) and the left lateral orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) was identified only in the MDDs after the BMRMI. Limitation: in order to exclude the impact of other events on the participants brain activity. the Hamilton Rating Scales for Depression (HDRS) was not measured after the body-mind relaxation induction.Conclusion: Our findings support the hypothesis that body-mind relaxation meditation induction may regulate the activities of the prefrontal cortex and thus may have the potential to help patients construct reappraisal strategies that can modulate the brain activity in multiple emotion-processing systems.

The features of the transition from the single-peak spectral profile to the doublet spectrum with increasing pump power are studied. The used master equation takes into account the gain saturation, the quadratic frequency dispersion of the gain and the refractive index, and the cubic-quintic nonlinearity of the losses and refractive index. Experimental data are obtained for an Er:Yb-doped fiber ring laser. The theoretical and experimental results are in good agreement with each other.

Abstract: International audience; We report on the experimental observation of a color domain (CD) phenomenon in a dissipative soliton fiber laser. The CDs are constituted by a wavelength-dependent condensed phase of pulses in motion. Single CD, dual CD, and tricolor domain that occupy all the cavity space are observed. The CDs have flexible tunability of duty cycle, amplitude, wavelength, and wavelength spacing. The CDs derive from the wavelength-dependent slow evolution of gain, and the formation mechanism of multiple CDs can be explained by cross gain saturation.

Abstract: International audience; Modeling and the prediction of material flows (plant production, CO2/O2 concentrations, H2O) is an important but challenging task in the design and control of closed ecological life support systems (CELSS). The aim of this study was to develop a novel knowledge-and-data-driven modeling (KDDM) approach for simultaneously simulating plant production and CO2/O2 concentrations in a closed system of plants and humans by integrating mechanistic and empirical models. The KDDM approach consists of a ‘knowledge-driven (KD)’ sub-model and a ‘data-driven (DD)’ sub-model. The KD sub-model describes hourly and up to daily plant photosynthesis, respiration and assimilation partitioning using the components of GreenLab and TomSim models. The DD sub-model describes the dynamics of CO2 production and O2 consumption by the crew member using a piecewise linear model. The two sub-models were integrated with a mass balance model for CO2/O2 concentrations in a closed system. The KDDM was applied with a two-person, 30-day integrated CELSS test. This model provides accurate computation of both the dry weights of different plant compartments and CO2/O2 concentrations. The model also quantifies the underlying material flows among the crew members, plants and environment. This approach provides a computational basis for lifetime optimization of cabin design and experimental setup of CELSS (e.g., environmental control, planting schedule). With extension, this methodology can be applied to a half-closed system such as a glasshouse.

Abstract: We present a level of detail (LOD) method designed for tree branches. It can be combined with methods for processing tree foliage to facilitate navigation through large virtual forests. Starting from a skeletal representation of a tree, we fit polygon meshes of various densities to the skeleton while the mesh density is adjusted according to the required visual fidelity. For distant models, these branch meshes are gradually replaced with semi-transparent lines until the tree recedes to a few lines. Construction of these complete LOD models is guided by error metrics to ensure smooth transitions between adjacent LOD models. We then present an instancing technique for discrete LOD branch models, consisting of polygon meshes plus semi-transparent lines. Line models with different transparencies are instanced on the GPU by merging multiple tree samples into a single model. Our technique reduces the number of draw calls in GPU and increases rendering performance. Our experiments demonstrate that large-scale forest scenes can be rendered with excellent detail and shadows in real time. published

Abstract: Dielectric/Metal/Dielectric structures can be used as substituent to transparent conductive electrodes. The dielectric used is often a transition metal oxide such as MoO 3-x and the metal is Ag. In the present work we propose to substitute Cu to Ag. The difficulty with Cu is its high diffusion rate into MoO 3-x . In order to prevent this negative effect we used Cu:Ni alloy as metal layer. If using such alloy is efficient to reduce Cu diffusion, it works well only with WO 3-x and not with MoO 3-x . We show that after deposition of the alloy only 0.5 at% of Ni is present in Cu films. This small atomic concentration makes it possible to preserve the electrical and optical properties of the metal films but limits its control of Cu diffusion in time. Therefore it is necessary to use an oxide, here WO 3-x , which also limits the diffusion of metals. By adding these two effects due to the alloy and the oxide it is possible to form Dielectric/Metal/Dielectric structures with quite stable properties. These WO 3- x /Cu:Ni/WO 3- x structures can be used as anodes in organic photovoltaic cells. The different behaviors of the structures according to whether they use WO 3-x or MoO 3-x are discussed in terms of thin film porosity.

Abstract: International audience; We present results of the analysis of square pulses generated in passively-mode-locked lasers under dissipative-soliton-resonance conditions. The master equation used in this work takes into account the gain saturation, the quadratic frequency dispersion of the gain and the refractive index, and the cubic-quintic nonlinearity of the losses and refractive index. The phase modulation effects are defined as a perturbation to the solution of this equation that has the form of a square pulse without phase modulation. An analytical dependence of the change in the carrier frequency of the radiation along the pulse is found. Conditions for the occurrence of the singlet and doublet spectra of the square pulse are determined. The mechanisms responsible for the occurrence of this regime are analyzed. The obtained analytical dependencies are in good agreement with the results of numerical simulation.

Abstract: International audience; We propose a new mechanism to pave the way for efficient learning against class-imbalance and improve representation of identity vector (i-vector) in automatic speaker verification (ASV). The insight is to effectively exploit the inherent structure within ASV corpus — centroid priori. In particular: (1) to ensure learning efficiency against class-imbalance, the centroid-aware balanced boosting sampling is proposed to collect balanced mini-batch; (2) to strengthen local discriminative modeling on the mini-batches, neighborhood component analysis (NCA) and magnet loss (MNL) are adopted in ASV-specific modifications. The integration creates adaptive NCA (AdaNCA) and linear MNL (LMNL). Numerical results show that LMNL is a competitive candidate for low-dimensional projection on i-vector (EER = 3.84% on SRE2008, EER = 1.81% on SRE2010), enjoying competitive edge over linear discriminant analysis (LDA). AdaNCA (EER = 4.03% on SRE2008, EER = 2.05% on SRE2010) also performs well. Furthermore, to facilitate the future study on boosting sampling, connections between boosting sampling, hinge loss and data augmentation have been established, which help understand the behavior of boosting sampling further.

Abstract: International audience; Non-uniform solar flux may lead to negative effects in the receiver of the linear Fresnel reflector (LFR), including the failure of the receiver and the fluctuating operation. For reducing these effects, an aiming strategy optimization approach is presented by combining a multi-objective Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Monte Carlo ray tracing to homogenize the flux distribution in current work. Both the flux non-uniformity index and the optical loss (ηloss) are used as the objective functions. Based on the approach, first, the flux distributions in the Multi-Tube Cavity Receiver (MTCR) and the Single-Tube Receiver with a Secondary Collector (STRSC) are optimized at a typical condition. Optimal results indicate that the GA optimization strategy (S2) can reach a compromise between the flux non-uniformity and the optical loss in both MTCR and STRSC systems. Furthermore, the optimal strategy obtained at a specific transversal incidence angle can be applied in a relatively large range around it. Moreover, parameter study indicates that the aiming line number (naim) has little impact on the efficiencies of the two systems. naim has almost no effect on the flux non-uniformity in the MTCR, but the effect is visible in the STRSC. Finally, the application of S2 under a real-time condition indicates that fluxes in the two receivers can be homogenized efficaciously in the whole time range with a small drop of 0.2–3.8 percentage points in efficiency compared with those of traditional one-line aiming strategy (S1). It is also found that the flux non-uniformity indexes of the MTCR are greatly reduced from 0.77–1.09 to 0.02–0.06 when S1 is replaced by S2, and those of the STRSC are steeply reduced from 0.59–0.70 to 0.29–0.37. It is concluded that the present approach is effective and suitable for homogenizing the fluxes in the receivers of LFRs.

Abstract: Precise detection of spin resonance is of paramount importance to achieve coherent spin control in quantum computing. We present a novel setup for spin resonance measurements, which uses a dc-SQUID flux detector coupled to an antenna from a coplanar waveguide. The SQUID and the waveguide are fabricated from 20~nm Nb thin film, allowing high magnetic field operation with the field applied parallel to the chip. We observe a resonance signal between the first and third excited states of Gd spins $S=7/2$ in a CaWO$_4$ crystal, relevant for state control in multi-level systems., Comment: submitted

Abstract: International audience; It has been found by numerical simulation that dissipative soliton resonance in passive mode-locked fiber lasers with anomalous dispersion can result in the formation of rectangular pulses with a spectral doublet. With an increase in the pump power and hence in the length of the pulses, the width of the peaks of the spectral doublet decreases, and their position remains unchanged. As a consequence, the generation of a single pulse in the laser resonator turns out to be stable, and the regime of a high-energy rectangular pulse with a doublet spectral structure is observed. The mechanisms involved in this regime are analyzed.

Abstract: International audience; We demonstrate the possibility of generating wave-breaking-free optical pulses from a mode-locked fiber ring laser coupled to a long passive resonator. By adjusting the delay line length to match the temporal separation of two consecutive spiking pulses, we have successfully obtained large stable pulses in the microsecond range for any available pump power. Our experimental results demonstrate a new method for energy scaling in passively mode-locked fiber lasers.

Abstract: Scientific data 3, 160060 (2016). doi:10.1038/sdata.2016.60, Free-electron lasers (FEL) hold the potential to revolutionize structural biology by producing X-ray pules short enough to outrun radiation damage, thus allowing imaging of biological samples without the limitation from radiation damage. Thus, a major part of the scientific case for the first FELs was three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of non-crystalline biological objects. In a recent publication we demonstrated the first 3D reconstruction of a biological object from an X-ray FEL using this technique. The sample was the giant Mimivirus, which is one of the largest known viruses with a diameter of 450 nm. Here we present the dataset used for this successful reconstruction. Data-analysis methods for single-particle imaging at FELs are undergoing heavy development but data collection relies on very limited time available through a highly competitive proposal process. Abstract: Comment les plantes poussent-elles ? Le nombre d’or est-il omniprésent dans leur architecture ? Leurs structures sont-elles fractales ? Ont-elles un langage ? Une grammaire ? Il y a du vrai dans ces questions, mais il faut aller plus loin. Il faut identifier, modéliser et simuler le rôle des organes d’une plante dans sa croissance et leur fonctionnement.La modélisation des plantes fait l’objet de recherches à l’interface de disciplines biologiques (botanique, agronomie, génétique, écophysiologie) des mathématiques appliquées et de l’informatique. Elle permet de créer les modèles de développement de l’architecture des plantes, mais aussi les modèles de production végétale, expression de la croissance des organes.Les auteurs de cet ouvrage nous exposent les fondements biologiques, mathématiques et informatiques qui permettent d’exprimer le fonctionnement des bourgeons, la production photosynthétique de la biomasse et sa répartition dans les organes d’une plante. Abstract: International audience; Computer simulation is used to investigate a new regime of oscillation of fiber lasers in which passive mode-locking takes place simultaneously with the regime of regular undumped spiking induced by an intracavity saturable absorber. Such a superposition regime takes place when part of the output radiation of the laser operating in the regime of spiking is propagated through a fiber-optic delay line and is coupled back into the laser cavity in a time interval equal to the time interval between adjacent spikes. The advantages of the proposed regime of oscillation relative to other means of achieving passive mode-locking in fiber lasers are discussed. The proposed regime is of interest for obtaining reproducible high-energy light pulses.

Abstract: International audience; This paper presents an approach to construct a verified virtual prototyping framework of embedded software. The machine code executed on a simulated target architecture can be proven to provide the same results as the real hardware, and the proof is verified with a theorem prover. The method consists in proving each instruction of the instruction set independently, by proving that the execution of the C code simulating an instruction yields an identical result to that obtained by a formal executable model of the processor architecture. This formal model itself is obtained through an automated translation process from the architecture specifications. Each independent proof draws a number of lemmas from a generic lemma library and also uses the automation of inversion tactics in the theorem prover. The paper presents the proof of the ARM architecture version 6 Instruction Set Simulator of the SimSoC open source simulator, with all of the proofs being verified by the Coq proof assistant, using automated tactics to reduce manual proof development.

Abstract: This paper proposes a novel knowledge-and-data-driven modeling (KDDM) approach for simulating plant growth that consists of two submodels. One submodel is derived from all available domain knowledge, including all known relationships from physically based or mechanistic models; the other is constructed solely from data without using any domain knowledge. In this work, a GreenLab model was adopted as the knowledge-driven (KD) submodel and the radial basis function network (RBFN) as the data-driven (DD) submodel. A tomato crop was taken as a case study on plant growth modeling. Tomato growth data sets from twelve greenhouse experiments over five years were used to calibrate and test the model. In comparison with the existing knowledge-driven model (KDM, BIC=1215.67) and data-driven model (DDM, BIC=1150.86), the proposed KDDM approach (BIC=1144.36) presented several benefits in predicting tomato yields. In particular, the KDDM approach is able to provide strong predictions of yields from different types of organs, including leaves, stems, and fruits, even when observational data on the organs are unavailable. The case study confirms that the KDDM approach inherits advantages from both the KDM and DDM approaches. Abstract: In this paper, we propose a genetic algorithm for solving the shortest vector problem (SVP) based on sparse representation of short lattice vectors, which, we prove, can guarantee finding the shortest lattice vector under a Markov analysis. With some heuristic improvements (local search and heuristic pruning), the SVP genetic algorithm, by experimental results, outperforms other SVP algorithms, like the famous Kannan-Helfrich algorithm under SVP challenge benchmarks. In summary, we, for the first time, adopt the genetic algorithm in solving the shortest vector problem, based on which lattice-based cryptosystem is as a promising candidate for post-quantum cryptography.
