3. Video Labeling for Automatic Video Surveillance in Security Domains

Abstract

Beyond traditional security methods, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become an important surveillance tool used in security domains to collect the required annotated data. However, collecting annotated data from videos taken by UAVs efficiently, and using these data to build datasets that can be used for learning payoffs or adversary behaviors in game-theoretic approaches and security applications, is an under-explored research question. This paper presents VIOLA, a novel labeling application that includes (i) a workload distribution framework to efficiently gather human labels from videos in a secured manner; (ii) a software interface with features designed for labeling videos taken by UAVs in the domain of wildlife security. We also present the evolution of VIOLA and analyze how the changes made in the development process relate to the efficiency of labeling, including when seemingly obvious improvements did not lead to increased efficiency. VIOLA enables collecting massive amounts of data with detailed information from challenging security videos such as those collected aboard UAVs for wildlife security. 7. Removal of hexavalent chromium from water using hydrochar obtained with different types of feedstock

Abstract

Hydrochar (HC) was obtained through the hydrothermal digestion of beetroot, carrot, or spent coffee grounds. The yield (i.e., mass of HC produced per mass of feedstock used) was [approximately equal to]80%, [approximately equal to]20%, and [approximately equal to]50% with spent coffee, carrot, and beetroot, respectively. The surface area determined with the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method was 3.06 [m.sup.2] * [g.sup.-1] for HC from beetroot, 1.19 [m.sup.2] * [g.sup.-1] for HC from carrot, 2.84 [m.sup.2] * [g.sup.-1] for HC from dark roast coffee, and 3.22 [m.sup.2] * [g.sup.-1] for HC from original roast coffee. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy experiments showed that amine groups had a significantly higher density in HC produced with spent coffee grounds than that produced using either beetroot or carrot. HC could sorb hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) from water. The concentration of Cr(VI) in water decreased from 0.3 ppm to [approximately equal to]0.07 ppm and to [approximately equal to]0.1 ppm within 90 min using 20 g * [L.sup.-1] of HC made from spent coffee grounds and from beetroot and carrot, respectively. Abstract

Heat transfer describes the exchange of thermal energy, between physical systems depending on the temperature and pressure, by dissipation of heat. Addition of borax (Na2B4O7) in the range of 0.5-1% by wt. to concrete improves the gamma radiation shielding capabilities of concrete by around 80% and may also influence the various heat transfer parameters. This work deals with the analysis of the heat transfer through a test specimen comprising a rectangular block of high strength borated concrete with Con Plast 430 as a suitable super-plasticizer, and thereby compute the average value of co-efficient of thermal conductivity (K) for it. Also one-dimensional steady state heat conduction analysis is carried out using empirical formulae and the corresponding results are verified using FEA methods applying ANSYS software.

Abstract

A computer code has been developed for internal ballistic performance evaluation of solid rocket motors, using minimum distance function (MDF) approach for prediction of geometry evolution. This method can handle any complex geometry without the need to define different geometrical shapes and their evolution as used in several existing analytical geometry evolution-based methodologies. The code is validated with both experimental results published in literature, as well as for solid rocket motors of tactical and strategic missiles and a very good match is obtained with static test results. The output of the code gives p-t (pressure-time) curve as well as the detailed parameters of the flow along the axial direction, and geometries in the form of mesh file, which can be further used as input to codes for CFD analysis.
