In order to enhance bioactive properties of titanium 99.2 used in implantology and various biomedical applications, numerous methods to form tight oxide coatings are being investigated. Some of these interesting techniques for generating TiO2 coatings include: electrochemical methods with anodizing, electric discharge treatment, plasma methods (PVD) and diffusive methods (i.e. oxidation in a fluidized bed). Each method aims to create a thin homogenous oxide coating characterized with thermal stability and repassivation ability in the presence of body fluid environment. However, new methods are still sought for increasing the biocompatibility of the substrate following a change in the intensity of depositing on the oxide coating compounds with high biocompatibility with body tissues, including hydroxyapatite, which constitutes the basis for subsequent osseointegration processes. The article presents investigation of HAp formation on titanium substrate surface after hybrid oxidation process. Hybrid surface treatments combine methods of fluidized bed atmospheric diffusive treatment FADT with the PVD surface treatment realized with different parameters (FADT - 640°C / 8h and PVD - magnetron sputtering with TiO2 target). In order to investigate the effects of hybrid oxidation and the formation of HAp molecules, SEM-EDS, SEM-EBSD, STEM-EDS, RS, nanoindentation and Kokubo bioactivity tests (c-SBF2) were carried out. The hybrid method of titanium oxidation, proposed by the Author, presents a new outlook on the modification and development of the properties of oxide coatings in the area of biomedical applications. Combining the ways of Ti Grade 2 oxidation in the hybrid method highly improves the formation of hydroxyapatite compounds and shows the potential of applying such a technique in implantology, where the intensive growth of bone tissues is crucial. The paper presents the results of the investigations of the surface layer obtained after application of the combined hybrid method of oxidation in a fluidized bed (FB) and deposition of the oxide coating by PVD technique. The material used in the study was Ti Grade 2. The process of diffusive saturation was carried out in a fluidized-bed reactor at the temperature of 640°C for 8h in air while the top oxide layer was obtained through PVD method - magnetron sputtering using TiO2 target and argon atmosphere with the pressure of 3×10-2mbar and the distance between the substrate to the target of 60mm. In order to determine changes in the properties that occur as a result of modification of the Ti surface, the following examinations were carried out by SEM-EDX, X-ray diffraction methods, Raman spectroscopy, Glow Discharge Optical Spectroscopy (GDOS) and Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS). The coatings obtained were characterized by zonal structure comprising the solution zone of Tiα(O) and oxide zone of TiO2 with modifications of rutile and anatase, depending on the oxidation method. It was found that formation of oxide layers using the hybrid method (FB+PVD) leads to limitation of defects in the oxide layer after fluidized-bed thermal treatment and obtaining a uniform, tight coating with improved corrosion properties which are important from the biomedical standpoint. Strong in-plane bonding (covalent) and weak van der Waals (vdW) interplanar interactions characterize a number of layered solids, as epitomized by graphite. The advent of graphene (Gr), individual atomic two-dimensional (2D) layers, isolated from mineral graphite via micromechanical exfoliation enabled the ability to pick, place and stack of arbitrary compositions. Moreover, this discovery implicated an access to other 2D vdW solids beyond graphene and artificially stacking atomic layers forming heterostructures/superlattices. Raman spectroscopy (RS) is a fast reliable non-destructive analytical tool and an integral part for lattice dynamical structural characterization of crystalline solids at nanoscale, revealing not only the collective atomic/molecular motions but also localized vibrations/modes and specifically used to determine the number of graphene layers and of other 2D vdW solids. We present Raman spectroscopy in first-, second- and higher-order vibrational modes involving 3 and 4 phonons (overtones and combination) and mapping of graphene (mono-, bi-, tri- and few-) layers, semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) [molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and tungsten disulfide (WS2)] and wide bandgap hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) dispersed monolayers, revealing various molecular vibrations and structural quality/disorder. First- and higher-order phonon modes are observed and analyzed in terms of Raman intensity (spatial inhomogeneity or thickness variation), band position (intrinsic mechanical strain) and intensity ratio (structural disorder) as a function of graphene layer ( n). An empirical relation for G band position with n is corroborated. All of the higher order modes are observed to upshift almost linearly with n, betraying the underlying interlayer vdW interactions. These findings exemplify the evolution of structural parameters in layered materials in changing from 3- to 2- or low-dimensional regime. The results are presented in view of applications of graphene by itself and in combination that help better understanding of physical and electronic properties for nano-/optoelectronics. A thin native oxide film that forms on the titanium surface makes contact with the bone tissue has been considered to be of great importance to successful osseointegration. The study investigated oxygen-diffused grade 2 titanium obtained by introducing oxygen into the titanium crystal lattice using thermal treatment in fluidized bed performed at 610°C and 640°C in 6, 8, 12h. The thermal treatment at different temperatures and different times led to the formation of a TiO2 rutile film on the titanium surface and a concentration gradient of oxygen into titanium (XRD/GID analyses and GDOS results). Moreover Raman spectroscopy results showed that the TiO2 film on the surface titanium was composed of two oxides (TiO2), i.e. anatase and rutile, for the analyzed variants of heat treatment. The aim of the present study was to establish the optimum conditions for obtaining oxygen-diffused TiO2 film. The results obtained in the study demonstrated that the use of a fluidized bed for titanium oxidation processes allows for obtaining uniform oxide layers with good adhesion to the substrate, thus improving the titanium surface to suit biomedical applications.
