LNG (liquefied natural gas) cryogenic ball valve (CBV) is an important flow control device in LNG receiving stations. Its reliability directly affects the stability of the pipeline system, especially its damage or leak in the seat seal will seriously threaten the normal operation and the safety of LNG receiving stations. When LNG flows through the CBV, due to the interaction between fluid pressure and the valve structure, the hard sealing at the valve seat is not only subjected to the pre-tightening force of saucer spring, but also affected by the fluid pressure of the complex flow. Therefore, it is necessary to study the flow characteristics in the CBV and the hard sealing performance affected by the LNG. In this paper, the fluid dynamics and the contact stress on hard sealing performance in the CBV are analyzed. The pressure drop, pressure, and velocity distributions were analyzed, respectively. The contact stress on the hard sealing surfaces of the CBV with fluid pressure was analyzed by the fluid-structure coupling method. This work has a certain reference value for researching and mastering the hard sealing performance of cryogenic ball valves.

The test of moment of inertia has a wide range of applications in aerospace, vehicle engineering, precision machinery, motors and other fields, moment of inertia directly affects the reliability and performance of components or equipment, it is very essential to test the moment of inertia. By analyzing the principle of moment of inertia test, we could come to the conclusion that the theoretical value, the inertia of the disk, the period of the torsion swing of the standard body and the period of the empty disk of the moment of inertia and the moment of inertia of the standard body. By analyzing the measurement error, position error and damping during the test, we could reach the following conclusion that the test accuracy of the moment of inertia can reach 0.1 %.

Although check valves have attracted a lot of attention, work has rarely been completed done when there is a compressible working fluid. In this paper, the swing check valve and the tilting check valve flowing high-temperature compressible water vapor are compared. The maximum Mach number under small valve openings, the dynamic opening time, and the hydrodynamic moment acting on the valve disc are chosen to evaluate the difference between the two types of check valves. Results show that the maximum Mach number increases with the decrease in the valve opening and the increase in the mass flow rate, and the Mach number and the pressure difference in the tilting check valve are higher. In the swing check valve, the hydrodynamic moment is higher and the valve opening time is shorter. Furthermore, the valve disc is more stable for the swing check valve, and there is a periodical oscillation of the valve disc in the tilting check valve under a small mass flow rate.

Cavitation inside globe valves, which is a common phenomenon if there is a high-pressure drop, is numerically investigated in this study. Firstly, the cavitation phenomenon in globe valves with a different number of cages is compared. When there is no valve cage, cavitation mainly appears at the valve seat, the bottom of the valve core, and the downstream pipelines. By installing a valve cage, cavitation bubbles can be restricted around the valve cage protecting the valve body from being damaged. Secondly, the effects of the outlet pressure, the working temperature, and the installation angle of two valve cages in a two-cage globe valve are studied to find out the best method to suppress cavitation, and cavitation number is utilized to evaluate cavitation intensity. Results show that cavitation intensity inside globe valves can be reduced by increasing the valve outlet pressure, decreasing the working temperature, or increasing the installation angle. Results suggest that increasing the outlet pressure is the most efficient way to suppress cavitation intensity in a globe valve, and the working temperature has a minimal effect on cavitation intensity.

Gate valves have been widely used in the piping system and have attracted a lot of attention from researchers. In this paper, a wedge-type double disk parallel gate valve is chosen to be analyzed. The Reynolds number varying from 200 to 500,000, and the valve opening degree varying from 20% to 100%, and the groove depth varying from 2.3 mm to 9 mm are chosen to investigate their effects on the flow and loss coefficients of the gate valve. The results show that the loss coefficient decreases and the flow coefficient increases with the increase of the Reynolds number and the valve opening degree, while with the increase of the groove depth, the loss coefficient barely changes, but the flow coefficient increases if the Reynolds number is larger than 10,000. In addition, the effects of the gaps between the disk and the limit stop on the stress distribution of the bolt are also investigated, and the results show that if the gaps are negative, high stress will act on the bolt at the contact position between the bolt and the limit stop.

With the rapid development of technology and economy, rough machining has not been able to keep pace with the times. Heavy industry is more and more inclined to the field of precision and ultra-precision machining. During that time, abrasive flow machining technology emerged as the times require. The process of micro cutting is achieved through the contact between abrasive particles and workpiece, so that the accuracy of workpiece's inner surface can be polished, and the accuracy of workpiece improved, which is a representative polishing method. Taking the three-order variable diameter tube as the research object, this paper discusses the polishing characteristics of three level variable diameter pipe with solid liquid two phase abrasive flow. The removal pattern of abrasive flow micro cutting is analyzed, with the collision effect between abrasive particles and wall considered and ignored, which provides technical support for abrasive flow polishing variable diameter pipe parts.

In the fields of aerospace, precision machinery and energy, there are variable-diameter tubes for many key components. Abrasive flow polishing technology is an effective precision polishing technology for finishing the workpiece with an internal cavity structure. This technology can improve the quality of part finishing, reduce stress concentration, and reduce the surface roughness of the workpiece, and ultimately can improve the performance of the workpiece. In this paper, variable-aperture tube is taken as the research object, and the characteristics of abrasive flow in the multi-physics coupling field are studied by numerical simulation, and the collision removal effect between the abrasive particle and the wall surface is analyzed. We also discussed the control law of the abrasive grain flow processing quality and provided theoretical guidance for abrasive grain flow polishing of this type of part.

Abrasive flow machining has become an economical and efficient ultra-precision process for machining complex-shaped pipe parts, and processing effect is exceedingly subject to particle volume fraction. In this paper, aiming at uncovering the influence of various particle volume fractions on the machining result of abrasive flow finishing, based on fluid mechanics theory, mixed phase model and discrete phase model were conducted, FLUENT software was resorted to simulate the numerical characteristics of the solid-liquid two-phase flow field in the inner channel of S-tube with different-particle-volume-fraction abrasive flows, the mechanism of erosion and wear of particles was uncovered, which provides a theoretical basis for abrasive flow machining S-tube structured components.

In order to investigate the effect of abrasive flow on the polishing effect of variable diameter pipe parts, taking the fourth-order variable-diameter pipe part as the research object, the solid-liquid two-phase abrasive grains are used as the processing method of the fourth-order variable-diameter pipe, the numerical simulation of the machining process of the four-order variable-diameter pipe parts were carried out. Analysis of different inlet speed conditions, the dynamic pressure and the distribution of turbulence intensity of the flow field of the fourth order variable diameter pipe. Through comparative analysis, the effects of the four-stage variable-diameter pipe flow field are studied, which can provide the theoretical basis for the continuous improvement of the abrasive flow precision and ultra precision machining technology, which can improve the efficiency of abrasive flow processing, so that the workpiece fatigue strength is improved, enhance the reliability of the workpiece, extend the service life of the workpiece.

As a kind of nano machining technology, abrasive flow polishing technology plays an important role in precision machining region. As an important numerical simulation method in fluid mechanics, large eddy numerical simulation method has become an important method for many scholars to study abrasive grain polishing technology. In this paper, the use of fluid mechanics software FLUENT and selected Mixture mixed model. Based on the theory of solid-liquid two-phase flow dynamics, the large-eddy numerical simulation method was used to study the polishing process of T-tube abrasive flow, and the micro-machining mechanism of abrasive-polished workpiece was discussed. The influence of the different inlet velocities on the polishing effect of the abrasive grains was discussed by analyzing the numerical simulation results of the different inlet velocities of the abrasive grains during the processing of the T-tube.

Abrasive flow machining has become an efficient and economical ultra precision process for machining micro-bore parts. In this paper, aiming at viscosity temperature characteristics of abrasive flow finishing on micro-bore nozzle, under the guidance of the three governing equations of fluid mechanics theory, mixed phase model and discrete phase model were conducted, FLUENT software was resorted to simulate the discrete and fluid phase numerical characteristics of the solid-liquid two-phase flow field in the nozzle orifice with various field temperature and viscosity of slurry, the mechanism of erosion and wear of particles and effect of different processing parameters on particle erosion rate were uncovered, which provides a theoretical basis for the nozzle structure of abrasive flow machining.

Cryogenic ball valves are one of the most important fluid control devices in liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving stations. The dynamic flow characteristics of cryogenic ball valves directly affect the stability of a pipeline system. In this paper, the sliding mesh technology was adopted to simulate the dynamic flow characteristics inside the cryogenic ball valve. Firstly, the energy loss inside the cryogenic ball valve during the opening and closing process was analyzed. It is found that the energy loss is larger when the spool degree is less than 30°, while the fluid resistance is very small at the rest of the degree. Then, the dynamic flow characteristics of the cryogenic ball valve at different spool rotational speeds were investigated. It is found that the velocity value and the flow turbulence are gradually increased when the spool rotational speed increases from 1.25 deg/s to 10 deg/s. Finally, dynamic flow characteristics during the valve opening process with fluctuation of inlet velocity were analyzed. It is found that the distribution of velocity and pressure is approximately consistent, while the value of velocity and pressure is increased with the increase of inlet velocity. It is helpful for the design of cryogenic ball valves and the improvement of the whole LNG pipeline system.

Two top electrode (TE) metals, Al and Ta, were deposited on TaOx/Pt to investigate the effect of different interfacial states between TE and TaOx on resistive switching (RS). During TE metals deposition, 4-nm-thick AlOδ interface layer (IL) formed in situ in Al/TaOx/Pt, whereas no IL formed in Ta/TaOx/Pt. The AlOδ IL acts as a series resistor (RS) rather than an RS layer. Therefore, Al/TaOx/Pt can suppress voltage or current overshoot effect during the set process owing to the IL voltage-division effect. The high Rs (AlOδ: 60 kΩ) may facilitate the formation of a finer conductive filament, allowing the Al/TaOx/Pt sample to be set under an ultra-low current (~5 μA). In contrast, Ta/TaOx/Pt requires a much larger current (~5 mA). Although the power consumption is low, the endurance performance of Al/TaOx/Pt is not good enough. During repeated RS, the oxygen ions in TaOx are consumed to oxidize TE Al owing to the high oxygen affinity of Al. This process causes an increase in the oxygen vacancy concentration of TaOx, reducing the durability of Al/TaOx/Pt. Therefore, the series IL not only functions as a voltage divider but can also exchange oxygen ions with the RS layer, which significantly influences the low power consumption and high-endurance.

An experimental investigation was performed with R22 and R410a for single-phase flow, evaporation and condensation inside five micro-fin tubes of various geometries to obtain pressure drop and heat transfer characteristics. The results suggest single-phase flow heat transfer coefficients are increased by 46% to 64% compared with smooth tubes values. Tube geometries that had higher evaporation heat transfer coefficients or higher condensation heat transfer coefficients were identified. Condensation pressure drop characteristics also varied with tube geometry. Based on experiment data, a new correlation which contains the characteristics of a liquid film in annular flow is established. The new correlation can predict the experimental data within an error band of 15% and, for 77% of the data from the literature, within an error band of 30%. The Choi et al. correlation can predict the present condensation pressure drop data within a 20% error band and the Yu and Koyama correlation can predict the present condensation heat transfer coefficient data within 25%.Copyright © 2015 by ASME
