Abstract: The Data Acquisition System (DAQ) for the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) dark matter detector is described. The signals from 745 PMTs, distributed across three subsystems, are sampled with 100-MHz 32-channel digitizers (DDC-32s). A basic waveform analysis is carried out on the on-board Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to extract information about the observed scintillation and electroluminescence signals. This information is used to determine if the digitized waveforms should be preserved for offline analysis. The system is designed around the Kintex-7 FPGA. In addition to digitizing the PMT signals and providing basic event selection in real time, the flexibility provided by the use of FPGAs allows us to monitor the performance of the detector and the DAQ in parallel to normal data acquisition. The hardware and software/firmware of this FPGA-based Architecture for Data acquisition and Realtime monitoring (FADR) are discussed and performance measurements are described., Comment: 18 pages, 24 figures

Abstract: LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) is a second-generation direct dark matter experiment with spin-independent WIMP-nucleon scattering sensitivity above $1.4 \times 10^{-48}$ cm$^{2}$ for a WIMP mass of 40 GeV/c$^{2}$ and a 1000 d exposure. LZ achieves this sensitivity through a combination of a large 5.6 t fiducial volume, active inner and outer veto systems, and radio-pure construction using materials with inherently low radioactivity content. The LZ collaboration performed an extensive radioassay campaign over a period of six years to inform material selection for construction and provide an input to the experimental background model against which any possible signal excess may be evaluated. The campaign and its results are described in this paper. We present assays of dust and radon daughters depositing on the surface of components as well as cleanliness controls necessary to maintain background expectations through detector construction and assembly. Finally, examples from the campaign to highlight fixed contaminant radioassays for the LZ photomultiplier tubes, quality control and quality assurance procedures through fabrication, radon emanation measurements of major sub-systems, and bespoke detector systems to assay scintillator are presented., Comment: 45 pages (79 inc. tables), 7 figures, 9 tables

Abstract: We describe the design and assembly of the LUX-ZEPLIN experiment, a direct detection search for cosmic WIMP dark matter particles. The centerpiece of the experiment is a large liquid xenon time projection chamber sensitive to low energy nuclear recoils. Rejection of backgrounds is enhanced by a Xe skin veto detector and by a liquid scintillator Outer Detector loaded with gadolinium for efficient neutron capture and tagging. LZ is located in the Davis Cavern at the 4850' level of the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota, USA. We describe the major subsystems of the experiment and its key design features and requirements.

Abstract: The LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment will search for dark matter particle interactions with a detector containing a total of 10 tonnes of liquid xenon within a double-vessel cryostat. The large mass and proximity of the cryostat to the active detector volume demand the use of material with extremely low intrinsic radioactivity. We report on the radioassay campaign conducted to identify suitable metals, the determination of factors limiting radiopure production, and the selection of titanium for construction of the LZ cryostat and other detector components. This titanium has been measured with activities of $^{238}$U$_{e}$~$<$1.6~mBq/kg, $^{238}$U$_{l}$~$<$0.09~mBq/kg, $^{232}$Th$_{e}$~$=0.28\pm 0.03$~mBq/kg, $^{232}$Th$_{l}$~$=0.25\pm 0.02$~mBq/kg, $^{40}$K~$<$0.54~mBq/kg, and $^{60}$Co~$<$0.02~mBq/kg (68\% CL). Such low intrinsic activities, which are some of the lowest ever reported for titanium, enable its use for future dark matter and other rare event searches. Monte Carlo simulations have been performed to assess the expected background contribution from the LZ cryostat with this radioactivity. In 1,000 days of WIMP search exposure of a 5.6-tonne fiducial mass, the cryostat will contribute only a mean background of $0.160\pm0.001$(stat)$\pm0.030$(sys) counts., Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in Astroparticle Physics

Abstract: WOS: 000469124600046, The study was conducted to evaluate the quality of durum wheat grain. For this reason, genetic resources are crucial for the identification of parents and the enrichment of the gene pool that can be used in the development of new varieties for better nutrition of people. For this purpose, 131 populations of landraces, 9 promising line and 5 new varieties were used. The experiment was set up in randomized blocks with 7 replications, according to the augmented (increased) experimental design in 2015-2016 growing season. In the study, we examined total nitrogen content, protein ratio, CIE (Commission Internationale Eclairage) wheat color analysis (L* brightness, b* jaundice, a* redness) of 145 genotypes of durum wheat seeds. According to analysis of variance, highly significant differences (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01) were determined for total nitrogen, protein content and CIE L* value, while differences were not significant for b* value and a* value. The superiority of the genotypes was determined by the first two principal components (IPC1 (principle component) and IPC2) in order to create a two-dimensional GT biplot. The sum squares of the first two components were accounted by 45.34% (PC1) and 40.03% (PC2) for genotypes. The GT (genotype x trait) biplot indicated that 9 (nine) sectors occurred among genotypes and quality parameters. On the other hand, three groups occurred among the quality parameters based on the genotypes. The scatter plot demonstrated that there is a high correlation between b* jaundice, and a* redness. The results showed that cultivars and more landraces have general adaptability for all quality parameters, while some genotypes (G79, G78), (G22, G102), (G3) and (G121, G5) showed specific adaptation for N (nitrogen), PC (protein content) and L*, a* and b* values, respectively. According to the biplot techniques, G36 came forward with the N, P and a* value and desirable landraces, G5 for b* value, G30 stable line for all quality parameters, while (G128, G61) and the majority of promising lines (L4, L6) did not come forward with any quality parameters. The results of the study indicated that the majority of landraces can be used as parents to improve the quality of durum wheat varieties. Abstract: OBJECTIVE: Relapsed/refractory AML cases are much more resistant to chemotherapy. Venetoclax is a highly sensitive BCL-2 inhibitor. It was aimed to evaluate the effects of venetoclax therapy on real-world R/R AML survival outcomes, the effects of the cytogenetic characteristics of the patients and previous clinical applications on treatment response, and venetoclax treatment toxicity. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study included patients who only received a venetoclax-based salvage on R/R AML patients from Turkey. The study included a total of 62 patients from 6 different centers in Turkey. Response to 2 cycles of venetoclax treatment was assessed by bone marrow blast rate. The demographic data, cytogenetic characteristics, AML type, MDS type, response rates and overall survival of the patients after venetoclax combination treatment were assessed. Median age of the patients was 65 (19-85). Mean number of prior treatments was 2.67 ±1.75. RESULTS: 13 patients (21%) had a history of allogenic stem cell transplantation. 58 (93.5%) had received HMA therapy before venetoclax. 36 patients (58.1%) had de-novo AML, and 25 (40.3%) previously had MDS. Treatment response was evaluated as complete remission (n = 21, 33.9%), partial response (n = 17, 27.4%), and treatment failure (n = 24, 38.7%). Patients in the TF group were significantly more likely to have poor cytogenetic and to have received allogeneic transplants. The mean estimated overall survival after the venetoclax treatment was 9.13 ± 0.75 months. CONCLUSIONS: The study population consisted of a group of patients who had relapsed or primary refractory disease with poor prognosis, despite numerous rounds of chemotherapy. It is our belief that the high response rates obtained with the combination of venetoclax/HMA, and having obtained positive results with poor risk patients, indicated a promising perspective for R/R AML patients. Abstract: In this study investigating the effect of driver behavior on performance of signalized intersections is aimed. For this purpose, a questionnaire is drawn up to assess simultaneously queue length and start response time data at three signalized intersections in Izmir city center. Especially start response times of drivers are tried to be modeled using various physiological scales which explain drivers' behavior. Analyses have shown that, as the age and experience of drivers increase, their perception of safety also increases. Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the value of Constructive Interference In Steady State (CISS) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) assessment in evaluating the cranial nerve VIII, and the branches of this nerve for detection of the inner ear abnormalities. Ninety pediatric patients diagnosed with congenital sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) between November 2006 and September 2008 were assessed by 3D-CISS MRI to evaluate the cranial nerve VIII with respect to congenital abnormalities of the inner ear. Of the 90 patients included in the study group, 44 were male (48.9%) and 46 were female (51.1%) at an age varying from 1 to 16 years old (5.97±4.04 years). The structures of 180 inner ears of 90 pediatric patients were assessed. Pathology was detected in 48 inner ears (26.6%) with any of the cochlear, vestibular, semi-circular canal and vestibular aqueduct abnormalities. Among 24 patients (26.6%), Michel deformity (1.66%), cochlear aplasia (4.98%), common cavity deformity (2.22%), cochlear hypoplasia (3.33%) and Mondini malformation (2.77%) was detected in 3, 9, 4, 6 and 5 inner ears, respectively. Internal auditory canal (IAC) assessment revealed dilatation in 11 inner ears, hypoplasia in 6, aplasia in 1 and vestibular aqueduct (VAD) dilatation in 9 inner ears. CISS MRI is an effective imaging technique for assessing the inner ear abnormalities, the presence of nerve VIII in patients with congenital sensorineural hearing loss. Thus, we believe CISS MRI imaging should be performed before any operation in all patients, who may be candidates for cochlear implantation. © 2015 OMU.

Abstract: Bu çalışma, Ordu koşullarında yetiştirilmiş olan Fuyu, Hachiya ve Türkay Trabzon hurması çeşitlerinin soğukta depolanması sırasındaki kalite değişimini belirlemek amacıyla Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi Bahçe Bitkileri Bölümü’ nde 2002 ve 2003 yıllarında yürütülmüştür. Delikli polietilen torbalar içerisinde 0°C sıcaklık ve % 90 ± 5 nispi neme sahip depoda 3 ay muhafaza edilen Trabzon hurması meyveleri, iki yıl boyunca dış görünüş ve bazı kalite parametreleri (ağırlık kaybı, meyve sertliği, suda çözünebilir kuru madde içeriği, pH değeri, titre edilebilir asit miktarı, meyve kabuk rengi ve meyve et rengi) bakımından incelenmiştir. Deneme boyunca ilk yıl Fuyu çeşidi örnekleri hariç depolama sonunda meyveler pazarlanabilir ya da iyi durumda bulunmuşlardır. Depolama boyunca ağırlık kaybı, % 1.36 (Hachiya, 2. yıl) ile % 3.55 (Hachiya, 1. yıl) arasında değişmiştir. Meyvelerde muhafaza süresince sertlikte azalma gözlenmiştir. Titre edilebilir asit miktarında azalmalar görülürken, pH değerinde artan yönde dalgalanmalar olmuştur. Bütün çeşitlerde depolamanın ilerlemesiyle birlikte kabuk renginde koyulaşma olduğu bulunmuştur. Meyve et rengininse kırmızıya yakın koyu turuncu rengi aldığı tespit edilmiştir. Her iki yılda alınan sonuçlara dayanılarak, incelenen çeşitlerin 3 ay iyi görünümde muhafaza edilebileceği söylenebilmektedir

Abstract: The aim of the present paper was to investigate the efficiency of different progestagen treatment methods in combination with Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotrophin (PMSG) in Merino ewes outside the breeding season. A total of 78 ewes (2 to 4 years old) with a mean bodyweight of 58.4 kg and an average body condition score (BCS) of 3.5 were used in the trial. The ewes were randomly divided into 3 equal groups [n= 26]. Intravaginal progestagen sponges containing Fluorogestone Acetate (FGA; 30 mg) were inserted intravaginally for different periods (7_days: short-term; 10_days: mid-term, 14_days: long-term). In all cases, 500 IU PMSG was administered intramuscularly at sponge withdrawal. The oestrus response, lambing rate, multiple birth rate, fecundity and litter size were [65.4, 61.5, 18.8%, 0.77 and 1.25] in the short-term group; 80.8, 88.5, 34.8%, 1.31 and 1.48 in the mid-term group; and 96.2, 92.3, 62.5%, 1.50 and 1.63 in the long-term group, respectively. Oestrus manifestation and multiple birth rate were greater in long-term than in mid- and short-term groups, whereas for lambing rate, fecundity and litter size, better results were obtained in long- and mid-term than in short-term protocol. In conclusion, in Merino ewes, oestrus synchronisation outside the breeding season with long and mid-term progestagen treatment was found to be more effective than short-term treatment. Abstract: The performance of automatic milking system (AMS) units on three farms with free and directed cow traffic was examined in this study. Farm A housed 123 Holstein cows and used free traffic. Farms B and C housed 104 and 102 Holstein cows, respectively, and both used milk-first-cow traffic. Daily milking frequency per cow was highest on Farm B (2.85), followed by Farm C (2.69), and Farm A (2.36). Although the daily milking rate per cow was lowest on Farm A, the daily milking yield was higher than those on the other two farms (Farm B, 25.30 kg; Farm C, 24.33 kg) with 27.33 kg. The number of daily refusals was significantly higher on Farm A (34.93) compared to refusals on the other two farms (P<0.05). The hourly milking capacities of the two AMS were lowest throughout the day on Farm A (4.4 visits), followed by Farms B and C, with 6.5 and 7.2 visits, respectively. AMS loading was higher on Farm A (78.09%) than on the other farms, which reduced the time wasted on Farm A by 15.23%. Most cows were milked two to four times daily on Farms B and C and one to two times daily on Farm A. A cow-traffic system must be chosen at the beginning of the investment. No traffic type is inherently better than any other. Farmers must be able to choose the appropriate cow traffic system for their farm, lifestyle, and labor qualification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Light exposure affects the quality of foods when packaged in transparent materials. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of vacuum and non-vacuum packaging and storage under light and dark conditions on oxidative properties of butter. For this purpose, peroxide value and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, some aldehydes and lipolytic properties of butter were monitored during 90 days of storage. The incremental effects of light exposure and packaging at atmospheric conditions on peroxide value and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances were obviously seen. The butter samples stored under light had the highest aldehyde content. Hexanal was the most formed aldehyde and this was followed by pentanal and nonanal. 2,4-haxadienal, 2,4-heptadienal and 2,4-nonadienal reached to higher concentrations in the samples exposed to light than dark-stored samples. ADV and free fatty acid contents were not influenced significantly by the treatments. Consequently, it is concluded that the most effective way of protecting butter against oxidative damage is keeping the butter out of light and oxygen exposure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Many tropical and subtropical crops are sensitive to low temperatures. When these crops are kept at temperatures lower than 10-15°C but above the freezing point for a certain period, chilling injury occurs. Tissue strength of fruits decreases because normal metabolic processes are not maintained at these temperatures. The dysfunction of cells, various physiological and biochemical changes occur when chilling sensitive crops are subjected to chilling stress. The most common symptoms of chilling injury are pitting, internal browning, core breakdown, soggy breakdown, soft scald and abnormal ripening Fruits sensitive to chilling injury cannot benefit the full advantage of cold storage due to this deteriorations. Many pre- and post-harvest techniques and chemicals have been applied in these crops to reduce or delay the effects of chilling injury. There is not a single effective method for all conditions or all crops. Different techniques are used to reduce the effects of chilling injury for each species and variety even each case. One of the most widely used methods is temperature conditioning by which different temperatures before or during storage could be applied. Abstract: People across the world and throughout history have gone to great lengths to enhance their physical appearance. Evolutionary psychologists and ethologists have largely attempted to explain this phenomenon via mating preferences and strategies. Here, we test one of the most popular evolutionary hypotheses for beauty-enhancing behaviors, drawn from mating market and parasite stress perspectives, in a large cross-cultural sample. We also test hypotheses drawn from other influential and non-mutually exclusive theoretical frameworks, from biosocial role theory to a cultural media perspective. Survey data from 93,158 human participants across 93 countries provide evidence that behaviors such as applying makeup or using other cosmetics, hair grooming, clothing style, caring for body hygiene, and exercising or following a specific diet for the specific purpose of improving ones physical attractiveness, are universal. Indeed, 99% of participants reported spending >10 min a day performing beauty-enhancing behaviors. The results largely support evolutionary hypotheses: more time was spent enhancing beauty by women (almost 4 h a day, on average) than by men (3.6 h a day), by the youngest participants (and contrary to predictions, also the oldest), by those with a relatively more severe history of infectious diseases, and by participants currently dating compared to those in established relationships. The strongest predictor of attractiveness-enhancing behaviors was social media usage. Other predictors, in order of effect size, included adhering to traditional gender roles, residing in countries with less gender equality, considering oneself as highly attractive or, conversely, highly unattractive, TV watching time, higher socioeconomic status, right-wing political beliefs, a lower level of education, and personal individualistic attitudes.
