Abstract Background The aim of this study is to assess the feasibility and safety of monitored anesthesia care (MAC) versus intubated general anesthesia (IGA) for patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Methods This prospective observational study included patients scheduled for cardiac surgery involving CPB at our institution between April 2012 and February 2017. The enrolled patients were categorized into MAC and IGA groups. MAC involved local anesthesia at the sternotomy site, sedation with dexmedetomidine, analgesia with remifentanil/sufentanil, and electroacupuncture (EA). Eleven patients underwent MAC, and 13 patients received IGA. There were no instances of conversion from MAC to IGA, and both groups exhibited no major complications. The demographic characteristics, baseline parameters, and operative variables were comparable between the two groups. Uranium-bearing particle analysis is an important technology in the field of nuclear safeguards. In uranium-related nuclear activities, especially in the processes of uranium enrichment, uranium-bearing aerosols are unavoidable released into the environment. There are significant differences between the uranium particles formed by uranium-bearing aerosols after drying and that from nature in terms of isotopic ratio, elemental composition, and impurity composition. Therefore, we can provide a judgment basis for the monitoring of nuclear facilities and activities by analyzing the characteristic information of micrometer or submicron sized uranium-bearing particle. After nearly 30 years of development, some relatively mature methods for the analysis of uranium-bearing particles have been developed. In this review, the process of particle analysis including sample collection, preliminary screen, particle recovery, identification and localization, and measurement is briefly introduced. The advantages and disadvantages of the commonly used technical in each process are compared. At the same time, according to the different purposes of analysis, uranium-bearing particle analysis is divided into three research directions: uranium isotope analysis, morphology and elemental composition analysis, and age-dating. Recent progress of each direction is discussed. Finally, based on the progress of the research, combined with the Development and Implementation Support Program for Nuclear Verification of the IAEA, the future research direction of uranium-bearing particle analysis technology is prospected.

Abstract Herbivorous insects employ an array of salivary proteins to aid feeding. However, the mechanisms behind the recruitment and evolution of these genes to mediate plant-insect interactions remain poorly understood. Here, we report a potential horizontal gene transfer (HGT) event from bacteria to an ancestral bug of Eutrichophora. The acquired genes subsequently underwent duplications and evolved through co-option. We annotated them as horizontal-transferred, Eutrichophora-specific salivary protein (HESPs) according to their origin and function. In Riptortus pedestris (Coreoidea), all nine HESPs are secreted into plants during feeding. The RpHESP4 to RpHESP8 are recently duplicated and found to be indispensable for salivary sheath formation. Silencing of RpHESP4-8 increases the difficulty of R. pedestris in probing the soybean, and the treated insects display a decreased survivability. Although silencing the other RpHESPs does not affect the salivary sheath formation, negative effects are also observed. In Pyrrhocoris apterus (Pyrrhocoroidea), five out of six PaHESPs are secretory salivary proteins, with PaHESP3 being critical for insect survival. The PaHESP5, while important for insects, no longer functions as a salivary protein. Our results provide insight into the potential origin of insect saliva and shed light on the evolution of salivary proteins.

Extraction of global context information plays a major role in change detection (CD) of remote sensing (RS) images. However, the majority of methods now depend on convolutional neural networks, which are difficult to obtain complete context information due to the limitation of local convolution operation. This study proposes a novel gate attention U-shaped network with transformer for CD of RS images. GateFormer consists of an encoder with transformer-based Siamese network. First, we propose a gate attention mechanism, which filters the low-level information by guiding high-level features and focuses on activation of relevant knowledge instead of allowing all to pass. In addition, space pooling module in generator extracts more spatial features from pixel level to suppress the generation of noises. Finally, in order to increase the CD accuracy of small-scale ground objects, we design a feature downsampling module to minimize the loss of detailed information and compress more small-scale features in feature downsampling of transformer. The efficiency of our suggested approach has been verified by experiments on three RS CD datasets.

Abstract Non-retroviral endogenous viral elements (nrEVEs) are widely dispersed throughout the genomes of eukaryotes. Although nrEVEs are known to be involved in host antiviral immunity, it remains an open question whether they can be domesticated as functional proteins to serve cellular innovations in arthropods. In this study, we found that endogenous toti-like viral elements (ToEVEs) are ubiquitously integrated into the genomes of three planthopper species, with highly variable distributions and polymorphism levels in planthopper populations. Three ToEVEs display exon‒intron structures and active transcription, suggesting that they might have been domesticated by planthoppers. CRISPR/Cas9 experiments revealed that one ToEVE in Nilaparvata lugens, NlToEVE14, has been co-opted by its host and plays essential roles in planthopper development and fecundity. Large-scale analysis of ToEVEs in arthropod genomes indicated that the number of arthropod nrEVEs is currently underestimated and that they may contribute to the functional diversity of arthropod genes.

AIM:To evaluate the agreement of corneal high-order aberrations from Topcon KR-1W, i.Profiler and OPD-Scan Ⅲ wavefront aberrometers in myopic adults.METHODS:A prospective clinical study. A total of 92 adult patients(92 eyes)with myopia in the department of optometry, the People's Hospital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from June to August 2022 were enrolled. The third-order and fourth-order corneal aberrations at the pupil diameter of 4 and 6mm were measured by Topcon KR-1W, i.Profiler, and OPD-Scan Ⅲ, respectively. The difference and agreement of the three aberrometers were evaluated.RESULTS: The measurements at 6mm pupil diameter were all greater than those at 4mm pupil diameter. Abstract The neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been extensively studied in patients with gastric cancer (GC) treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), although the results are controversial. Therefore, we performed the present meta‐analysis to systematically assess the correlation between NLR and prognosis and clinicopathological factors in GC patients undergoing treatment with ICIs. Among the electronic databases, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library were thoroughly searched. To estimate the prognostic value of NLR for progression‐free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), hazard ratios (HRs) were calculated, and their 95% confidence intervals were calculated. This meta‐analysis included 10 studies with 830 patients. Many protected areas worldwide have been established to protect the last natural refuges of flagship animal species. However, long-established protected areas do not always match the current distributions of target species under changing environmental conditions. Here we present a case study of the Asian elephant Elephas maximus in Xishuangbanna, south-west China, to evaluate whether the established protected areas match the species’ current distribution and to identify key habitat patches for Asian elephant conservation. Our results show that currently only 24.5% of the predicted Asian elephant distribution in Xishuangbanna is located within Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve, which was established for elephant conservation. Based on the predicted Asian elephant distribution, we identified the most important habitat patches for elephant conservation in Xishuangbanna. The three most important patches were outside Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve and together they contained 43.3% of the estimated food resources for Asian elephants in all patches in Xishuangbanna. Thus, we identified a spatial mismatch between immobile protected areas and mobile animals. We recommend the inclusion of the three identified key habitat patches in a new national park currently being planned by the Chinese authorities for the conservation of the Asian elephant.

Abstract Background Utilizing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) measurement scales to assess youths’ adversities has expanded exponentially in health and justice studies. However, most of the ACEs assessment scales have yet to meet critical psychometric standards, especially for key demographic and minority groups. It is critical that any assessment or screening tool is not reinforcing bias, warranting the need for validating ACEs tools that are equitable, reliable and accurate. The current study aimed to examine the structural validity of an ACEs scale. Using data from the 2019 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), which collected of 97,314 responses collected from adults across sixteen states. This study assessed the psychometric properties and measurement invariance of the ACEs tool under the structural equation modeling framework. Results We found the 11-item ACEs screening tool as a second-order factor with three subscales, all of which passed the measurement invariance tests at metric and scalar levels across age, race, sex, socioeconomic status, gender identity, and sexual orientation. We also found that minority groups experienced more childhood adversity with small effect size, with the exception of the gender identity. Conclusion The ACEs measurement scale from the BRFSS is equitable and free from measurement bias regardless of one’s age, race, sex, socioeconomic status, gender identity, and sexual orientation, and thus is valid to be used to compare group mean differences within these groups. The scale is a potentially valid, viable, and predictive risk assessment in health and justice and research settings to identify high-risk groups or individuals for treatments.

This study is aimed to assess the characteristics of body composition in preschool children with short stature. Methods Anthropometric measurements and body composition were assessed in 68 preschool children aged 3 to 6 years old with short stature and 68 normal controls matched on age and gender. Height, weight and body composition (total body water, protein, minerals, body fat mass, fat-free mass, soft lean mass, skeletal muscle mass, and bone mineral contents) in the two groups were measured and compared. As the critical sensors and decoders of calcium signal, calcium-dependent protein kinase (CDPK) has become the focus of current research, especially in plants. However, few resources are available on the properties and functions of CDPK gene family in Triticum aestivum (TaCDPK). Here, a total of 79 CDPK genes were identified in the wheat genome. These TaCDPKs could be classified into four subgroups on phylogenesis, while they may be classified into two subgroups based on their tissue and organ-spatiotemporal expression profiles or three subgroups according to their induced expression patterns. The analysis on the signal network relationships and interactions of TaCDPKs and NADPH (reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidases, NOXs), the key producers for reactive oxygen species (ROS), showed that there are complicated cross-talks between these two family proteins. Further experiments demonstrate that, two members of TaCDPKs, TaCDPK2/4, can interact with TaNOX7, an important member of wheat NOXs, and enhanced the TaNOX7-mediated ROS production. All the results suggest that TaCDPKs are highly expressed in wheat with distinct tissue or organ-specificity and stress-inducible diversity, and play vital roles in plant development and response to biotic and abiotic stresses by directly interacting with TaNOXs for ROS production.

Cipangopaludina ampullacea (Küster, 1852) is a freshwater snail endemic to China. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of C. ampullacea was sequenced using next-generation sequencing. The mitogenome is 16,892 bp long and comprises a total of 37 genes, including 13 protein-coding genes, two rRNA genes, and 22 tRNA genes. It is consistent with the basic characteristics of other known viviparid mitochondrial genomes. Phylogenetic analysis using related species mitogenomes showed that Cipangopaludina and Margarya are mutually non monophyletic. Our study provides valuable information to reconstruct the taxonomy and evolution of viviparid snails more comprehensively.

Two new mixed-ligand-based compounds, namely [Co(1,3-pde)(4-bpmh)]n (1) and [Zn3(3,3’-bpdc)3(4-bpmh)1.5]n (2) (1,3-H2pde = 1,3-phenylenediacetic acid, 3,3’-H2bpdc = biphenyl-3,3'-dicarboxylic acid, 4-bpmh = N,N-bis-pyridin-4-ylmethylene-hydrazine) have been prepared under hydrothermal conditions. The obtained compounds were determined by singe crystalX-ray diffraction analyses, elemental analyses, powder X-ray diffraction analyses and thermogravimetric analyses. Moreover, the photocatalytic activity of 1 and luminescent property of 2 have also been investigated. This presented research estimate their treatment activity of the polycystic ovary syndrome, also the mechanism was measured as well. Firstly, a relative expression of the estrogen receptor on the ovarian epithelial cells was determined with real time RT-PCR. In addition, the amount of progesterone of the plasma was measured with ELISA detection kit after indicated treatment.

BackgroundStress ulcer (SU) is one of the main causes of prolonged hospital stay, poor prognosis, and increased mortality in critically ill patients. This study aimed to investigate the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on SU in patients with severe neurological diseases and explore its possible mechanisms.MethodsTaking patients with SU in adult neurocritical care as the research object, they were randomly divided into the EA group and the control group. Through the perioperative EA intervention, the following indicators were documented: main observation indicator (the effective rate of SU treatment), secondary observation indicators (gastric juice pH, gastric juice occult blood test, and stool occult blood test), related mechanisms [repair factors trefoil factor family 2 (TFF2), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and heat shock protein 70 (HSP70)], complications during hospitalization, and intensive care unit (ICU) stay time.ResultsCompared with the control treatment, EA increased the effective rate of SU treatment (85.4% for the EA group, 57.5% for the control group, risk difference: 27.9% (95% CI: 8.3%–45.1%); P < 0.01). EA increased the success rate of gastric juice pH treatment on days 1, 2, and 3 (P < 0.01 for day 1, P < 0.05 for days 2 and 3). EA lowered the positive rate of gastric occult blood test on days 1 and 3 (all P-values < 0.05) and the positive rate of fecal occult blood test on day 3 (P < 0.05). EA also reduced the ICU stay time (P < 0.01) and total hospitalization time (P < 0.05). Compared with day 0, all serum repair factors (VEGF, HSP70, and TFF2) of both groups significantly increased on days 1, 3, and 5 (all P-values < 0.01). Compared with the control group, VEGF in the EA group was increased on days 3 and 5 (all P-values < 0.01); HSP70 was increased on days 1, 3, and 5 (P < 0.05 for day 1, P < 0.01 for days 3 and 5); and TFF2 was increased on days 1, 3, and 5 (all P-values < 0.01).ConclusionElectroacupuncture promoted the repair of SU damage in severe neurological disease, and its effect was related to enhancing the expression of gastric mucosal repair factors.Clinical trial registration[https://www.chictr.org.cn/showprojen.aspx?proj=127012], identifier [ChiCTR2100046701].

Abstract Background Neuroinflammation is a major driver of age-related brain degeneration and concomitant functional impairment. In patients with Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of age-related dementia, factors that enhance neuroinflammation may exacerbate disease progression, in part by impairing the glymphatic system responsible for clearance of pathogenic beta-amyloid. Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) induce neuroinflammation and exacerbate cognitive impairment in the elderly. The NACHT-LRR and pyrin (PYD) domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome has been implicated in neuroinflammation. Therefore, we examined if the NLRP3 inflammasome contributes to glymphatic dysfunction and cognitive impairment in an aging mouse model of IBD. Methods Sixteen-month-old C57BL/6J and NLRP3 knockout (KO) mice received 1% wt/vol dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) in drinking water to model IBD. Colitis induction was confirmed by histopathology. Exploratory behavior was examined in the open field, associative memory by the novel-object recognition and Morris water maze tests, glymphatic clearance by in vivo two-photon imaging, and neuroinflammation by immunofluorescence and western blotting detection of inflammatory markers. Results Administration of DSS induced colitis, impaired spatial and recognition memory, activated microglia, and increased A1-like astrocyte numbers. In addition, DSS treatment impaired glymphatic clearance, aggravated amyloid plaque accumulation, and induced neuronal loss in the cortex and hippocampus. These neurodegenerative responses were associated with increased NLRP3 inflammasome expression and accumulation of gut-derived T lymphocytes along meningeal lymphatic vessels. Conversely, NLRP3 depletion protected against cognitive dysfunction, neuroinflammation, and neurological damage induced by DSS. Conclusions Colitis can exacerbate age-related neuropathology, while suppression of NLRP3 inflammasome activity may protect against these deleterious effects of colitis.

To avoid risks, organisms must recognize threatening heterospecies from non-threatening ones via acoustic cues from a distance. With land-use change, humans have encroached considerably into natural areas. Therefore, it is beneficial to animals to use acoustic cues to discriminate between different levels of threats posed by humans. Our study aims at testing this discriminatory ability in Asian elephants (Elephas maximus), animals that have been for long history subjected to human interaction. We tested whether eighteen semi-captive elephants could discriminate between voices of their own mahouts (i.e., who take care of the elephants exclusively) and of other mahouts (unfamiliar individuals). The results showed that elephants responded successfully to the commands from their own mahouts, with an average response rate as high as 78.8%. The more years the mahouts had been as their caretakers, the more the elephant showed active responses toward the commands. Female elephants responded to the commands more frequently and faster than males. Also younger elephants responded more frequently and faster than older elephants. We argue that Asian elephants can discriminate between familiar and unfamiliar humans by acoustic cues alone. Proximity with humans may be a factor, as fundamental as domestication, for animals to develop heterospecies discriminatory ability.

Objectives: To examine associations between maternal sulfur dioxide (SO2) exposure and congenital ear malformations risk in offspring.Methods: We surveyed 1676 cases with congenital ear malformations and 7950 controls from the Maternal and Child Health Certificate Registry of Liaoning Province between 2010 and 2015. SO2 concentrations were obtained from the Municipal Environment Protection Bureau of Liaoning Province. Multivariable logistic regression models and Restricted cubic splines (RCS) model were used to assess the aforementioned association.Results: There were significant associations between maternal SO2 exposure and congenital ear malformations risk during the 3 months before conception (OR Q4 vs. Q1 = 1.93, 95% CI = 1.43–2.59) and the 3 months after conception (OR Q4 vs. Q1 = 1.63, 95% CI = 1.22–2.18). Similar results were obtained in the analysis of single-month exposure windows, except for the third month before conception and the third month after conception. Moreover, these findings were broadly consistent across subgroups and robust in sensitivity analyses. There were non-linear dose-response associations between SO2 exposure and congenital ear malformations based on restricted cubic spline model analysis.Conclusion: Maternal SO2 exposure is associated with increased congenital ear malformations risk in offspring.

At the end of 2019, A new type of beta-CoV, SARS-CoV-2 emerged and triggered the COVID-19 pandemic, which spread overwhelmingly around the world in less than a year. However, the origin and direct ancestral viruses of SARS-CoV-2 remain unknown. RaTG13, a novel coronavirus found in bats in China’s Yunnan Province, is the closest relative virus of the SARS-CoV-2 identified so far. In this study, a new SARS-CoV-2 related virus, provisionally named PrC31, was discovered in Yunnan province by retrospectively analyse bat next generation sequencing (NGS) data of intestinal samples collected in 2018. PrC31 shared 90.7% and 92.0% nucleotide identities to the genomes of SARS-CoV-2 and the bat SARSr-CoV ZC45, respectively. Sequence alignment of PrC31 showed that several genomic regions, especially orf1a and orf8 had the highest homology with those corresponding genomic regions of SARS-CoV-2 than any other related viruses. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that PrC31 shared a common ancestor with SARS-CoV-2 in evolutionary history. The differences between the PrC31 and SARS-CoV-2 genomes were mainly manifested in the spike genes. The amino acid homology between the receptor binding domains of PrC31 and SARS-CoV-2 was only 64.2%. Importantly, recombination analysis revealed that PrC31 underwent multiple complex recombination events (including three recombination breakpoints) involving the SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2 sub-lineages, indicating that PrC31 evolved from yet-to-be-identified intermediate recombination strains. Combined with previous studies, it is revealed that the beta-CoVs may possess a more complex recombination mechanism than we thought.

Evidence of the association between maternal sulfur dioxide (SO2) exposure and the risk of omphalocele is limited and equivocal. We aimed to assess the aforementioned topic during the first trimester of pregnancy. A population-based case-control study was carried out in infants consisting of 292 cases of omphalocele and 7,950 healthy infant controls. Exposure to SO2, particulate matter with aerodynamic diameters ≤ 10 μm, and nitrogen dioxide was assessed by averaging the concentration from all stations in the mother's residential city. SO2 exposure was categorized into three groups, with the lowest tertile defined as the reference category. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using multivariable logistic regression models. Higher SO2 exposure during the first trimester was significantly associated with omphalocele risk [per standard deviation (42 ug/m3) increment: OR = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.22–1.65]. When focusing on shorter exposure windows, similar positive associations were observed for SO2 exposure in the first and third months of pregnancy. In addition, compared with the lowest tertile, high SO2 exposure in the second month of pregnancy increased the risk of omphalocele (OR = 2.80, 95% CI = 1.61–4.97). Maternal exposure to SO2 during the first trimester may increase the risk of omphalocele in offspring.

Abstract Background Cerebral microinfarcts (MIs) lead to progressive cognitive impairments in the elderly, and there is currently no effective preventative strategy due to uncertainty about the underlying pathogenic mechanisms. One possibility is the dysfunction of GABAergic transmission and ensuing excitotoxicity. Dysfunction of GABAergic transmission induces excitotoxicity, which contributes to stroke pathology, but the mechanism has kept unknown. The secreted leucine-rich repeat (LRR) family protein slit homologue 2 (Slit2) upregulates GABAergic activity and protects against global cerebral ischemia, but the neuroprotective efficacy of Slit2 against MIs has not been examined. Methods Middle-aged Wild type (WT) and Slit2-Tg mice were divided into sham and MI treatment groups. MIs were induced in parietal cortex by laser-evoked arteriole occlusion. Spatial memory was then compared between sham and MI groups using the Morris water maze (MWM) task. In addition, neuronal activity, blood brain barrier (BBB) permeability, and glymphatic clearance in peri-infarct areas were compared using two-photon imaging, while GABAergic transmission, microglial activation, neuronal loss, and altered cortical connectivity were compared by immunofluorescent staining or western blotting. Results Microinfarcts increased the amplitude and frequency of spontaneous intracellular Ca2+ signals, reduced neuronal survival and connectivity within parietal cortex, decreased the number of GABAergic interneurons and expression of vesicular GABA transporter (VGAT), induced neuroinflammation, and impaired both glymphatic clearance and spatial memory. Alternatively, Slit2 overexpression attenuated dysfunctional neuronal Ca2+ signaling, protected against neuronal death in the peri-infarct area as well as loss of parietal cortex connectivity, increased GABAergic interneuron number and VGAT expression, attenuated neuroinflammation, and improved both glymphatic clearance and spatial memory. Conclusion Our results strongly suggest that overexpression of Slit2 protected against the dysfunction in MIs, which is a potential therapeutic target for cognition impairment in the elderly.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are a new light source with low energy consumption and high photoelectric conversion efficiency, and they can satisfy the energy-saving needs of plant culture systems. However, the effects of LED light sources on rice tissue culture and rice seedling cultivation are poorly understood. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of LEDs on the growth of tissue culture plantlets and seedlings of the rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivar Nipponbare. The best light source for rice tissue culture was different from that for rice seedling cultivation. Blue (B) LED light was the most appropriate light for rice tissue culture. Under a B LED light, the time required for callus proliferation, differentiation and regeneration was the shortest, and the frequency of plantlet initiation, differentiation and regeneration was the highest. A blue:red (B:R)=1:1 LED light facilitated the growth of rice seedlings and produced the highest chlorophyll and carotenoid contents and photosynthetic rates in the rice seedlings. Abundant photosynthetic products were more effectively generated in the rice seedlings under the B:R=1:1 LED and R LED lights than under the B LED light. B LED light is the most appropriate light for rice tissue culture plantlets and can be used as an alternative light source for rice tissue culture, and B:R=1:1 LED light facilitated the cultivation of robust rice seedlings and can be used as the primary light source for rice factory seedling cultivation.

Transverse momentum spectra of negative and positive pions produced at mid-(pseudo)rapidity in inelastic or non-single-diffractive proton-proton collisions over a center-of-mass energy, s , range from a few GeV to above 10 TeV are analyzed by the blast-wave fit with Boltzmann (Tsallis) distribution. The blast-wave fit results are well fitting to the experimental data measured by several collaborations. In a particular superposition with Hagedorn function, both the excitation functions of kinetic freeze-out temperature ( T 0 ) of emission source and transverse flow velocity ( β T ) of produced particles obtained from a given selection in the blast-wave fit with Boltzmann distribution have a hill at s ≈ 10 GeV, a drop at dozens of GeV, and then an increase from dozens of GeV to above 10 TeV. However, both the excitation functions of T 0 and β T obtained in the blast-wave fit with Tsallis distribution do not show such a complex structure, but a very low hill. In another selection for the parameters or in the superposition with the usual step function, T 0 and β T increase generally quickly from a few GeV to about 10 GeV and then slightly at above 10 GeV, there is no such the complex structure, when also studying nucleus-nucleus collisions.

This paper investigates a hierarchical target tracking method based on the collaboration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at different altitudes. To enhance the target tracking range, the high-altitude UAVs monitor the wide area, and transmit their surveillance information to low-altitude UAVs which directly detect and collect information about the target's movements. The contributions of this paper are threefold: First, to track the flying target in a dynamic environment, a modified Lyapunov guidance vector field (LGVF) method is used to plan velocities for UAVs, where a time-varying vertical component is incorporated into the traditional LGVF function to satisfy the constraints of cluster communication. Secondly, a three-dimensional local collision-free guidance vector field (TLCGVF) method is proposed for UAVs to plan collision-free paths on line. To simultaneously track the target and avoid obstacles, the vector field by LGVF is used as the original vector field of TLCGVF. Thirdly, the rolling optimization strategy is used to adjust the reactive parameters of TLCGVF to enhance the path quality. The simulation results confirm the feasibility of the above approach.

ABSTRACT Bats are well-recognized reservoirs of zoonotic viruses. Several spillover events from bats to humans have been reported, causing severe epidemic or endemic diseases including severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), SARS-CoV, Middle East respiratory syndrome-CoV (MERS-CoV), henipaviruses, and filoviruses. In this study, a novel rhabdovirus species, provisionally named Rhinolophus rhabdovirus DPuer (DPRV), was identified from the horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus affinis) in Yunnan province, China, using next-generation sequencing. DPRV shedding in the spleen, liver, lung, and intestinal contents of wild bats with high viral loads was detected by real-time quantitative PCR, indicating that DPRV has tropism for multiple host tissues. Furthermore, DPRV can replicate in vitro in multiple mammalian cell lines, including BHK-21, A549, and MA104 cells, with the highest efficiency in hamster kidney cell line BHK-21, suggesting infectivity of DPRV in these cell line-derived hosts. Ultrastructure analysis revealed a characteristic bullet-shaped morphology and tightly clustered distribution of DPRV particles in the intracellular space. DPRV replicated efficiently in suckling mouse brains and caused death of suckling mice; death rates increased with passaging of DPRV in suckling mice. Moreover, 421 serum samples were collected from individuals who lived near the bat collection site and had fever symptoms within 1 year. DPRV-specific antibodies were detected in 20 (4.75%) human serum samples by indirect immunofluorescence assay. Furthermore, 10 (2.38%) serum samples were DPRV positive according to plaque reduction neutralization assay, which revealed potential transmission of DPRV from bats to humans and highlighted the potential public health risk. Potential vector association with DPRV was not found with negative viral RNA in bloodsucking arthropods. IMPORTANCE We identified a novel rhabdovirus from the horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus thomasi) in China with probable infectivity in humans. DPRV was isolated in vitro from several mammalian cell lines, indicating wide host tropism, excluding bats, of DPRV. DPRV replicated in the brains of suckling mice, and the death rate of suckling mice increased with passaging of DPRV in vivo. Serological tests indicated the possible infectivity of DPRV in humans and the potential transmission to humans. The present findings provide preliminary evidence for the potential risk of DPRV to public health. Additional studies with active surveillance are needed to address interspecies transmission and determine the pathogenicity of DPRV in humans.

Abstract Modulated molecular design‐based intracellular self‐assembly strategy has showed great potentiality in drug delivery, due to its assembling nature‐resulted optimized drug biodistribution and metabolism. The modular designing concept endows the delivery system multiple functions, such as, selectivity and universality to improve the pharmacokinetics of loaded drugs. However, the accurate controlling of the self‐assembling process in desired site to achieve optimal drug delivery is posed great challenges toward rational molecular design. Here, we fabricated a modulated drug‐delivery system (MDS) through intracellular peptide self‐assembly to realize effective drug delivery. MDS was designed based on modulated molecular designing strategy which contains five functional motifs and effectively transformed into fibrous nanostructures inside target cells by caspase3/7 hydrolysis directed in situ self‐assembly. The experimental studies and molecular simulations were carried out to evaluate the successful construction and delivering efficacy of MDS. According to the experimental results and molecular simulation analysis, the percentage of solvent‐exposed surface area of assembling modular (KLVFFAE), as well as its non‐covalent interaction between four other modules synergeticly decide the solubility of molecules. The weak intramolecular forces of the peptide back bone, such as, hydrogen bond, as well as multivalent interactions of the side chains such as, salt bridge and hydrophobic interaction both contribute to the self‐assembly of the molecules. The significant structural difference between delivering molecules optimize the system to adapt hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs. Finally, the predicted drug delivery molecule specifically recognizes targeted cancer cell lines and self‐assembles to form fibers intracellularly, resulting in prolonged drug retention and accumulation. The regular prediction and rational molecular design will benefit the further construction and optimization of modulated drug delivery platform.

We analyzed the transverse momentum pT spectra of various strange hadrons KS0, Λ(Λ¯) and Ξ−(Ξ¯+) at mid-rapidity (y) in different centrality intervals from Au+Au collisions at sNN= 54.4 GeV. The pT spectra of these strange hadrons are investigated by the Tsallis-like distribution, which satisfactorily fits the experimental data. The bulk properties of the medium produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions at the kinetic freeze-out are reflected by measuring the hadron spectra. The effective temperature T, transverse flow velocity βT, and mean pT along with other parameters that are strongly dependent on centrality and particle specie are extracted. The effective temperature of multi-strange particle (Ξ−(Ξ¯+)) is larger as compared to singly-strange particles Λ(Λ¯) and KS0. Furthermore, the kinetic freeze-out temperature T, transverse flow velocity βT. and mean pT (⟨pT⟩) show a decreasing trend towards lower centrality, while the entropy parameter q increases from central to peripheral collisions. In addition, a positive correlation of ⟨pT⟩ and T and a negative correlation of q and T are also reported.

The transverse momentum distributions of inclusive charged particles in pseudorapidity bins with a width of 0.2 are reported for a simulation study of PYTHIA8, Sibyll, and EPOS. The models’ predictions are compared with the experimental measurements reported by the CMS experiment in symmetric pp collisions, allowing the maximum energy for new particle production at s = 0.9, 2.36, and 7 TeV. While comparing the models’ predictions with the data, we found that the default module of the PYTHIA model reproduced a good prediction of the data because it tuned the lower cut-off phase space parameter of the transverse momentum. In the second place, the EPOS model reproduced predictions that were close to the data, while the Sibyll model reproduced the data in a narrow region of the pT distributions. In addition to that, the fit of the pT distribution of the data by the standard distribution function was used to obtain the effective temperature of the hadronic medium. The effective temperature increased with an increase in the pseudorapidity and had a more significant value at higher center-of-mass energies, which may indicate a change in the reaction mechanism or possible formation of a different phase of hadronic matter.

Background: Nitric oxide synthase 1 adaptor protein (NOS1AP; previously named CAPON) is linked to the glutamatergic postsynaptic density through interaction with neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS). NOS1AP and its interaction with nNOS have been associated with several mental disorders. Despite the high levels of NOS1AP expression in the hippocampus and the relevance of this brain region in glutamatergic signalling as well as mental disorders, a potential role of hippocampal NOS1AP in the pathophysiology of these disorders has not been investigated yet. Methods: To uncover the function of NOS1AP in hippocampus, we made use of recombinant adeno-associated viruses to overexpress murine full-length NOS1AP or the NOS1AP carboxyterminus in the hippocampus of mice. We investigated these mice for changes in gene expression, neuronal morphology, and relevant behavioural phenotypes. Findings: We found that hippocampal overexpression of NOS1AP markedly increased the interaction of nNOS with PSD-95, reduced dendritic spine density, and changed dendritic spine morphology at CA1 synapses. At the behavioural level, we observed an impairment in social memory and decreased spatial working memory capacity. Interpretation: Our data provide a mechanistic explanation for a highly selective and specific contribution of hippocampal NOS1AP and its interaction with the glutamatergic postsynaptic density to cross-disorder pathophysiology. Our findings allude to therapeutic relevance due to the druggability of this molecule. Cooperation is ubiquitous in the animal kingdom as it aims to maximize benefits through joint action. Selection, however, may also favor competitive behaviors that could violate cooperation. How animals mitigate competition is hotly debated, with particular interest in primates and little attention paid thus far to nonprimates. Using a loose-string pulling apparatus, we explored cooperative and competitive behavior, as well as mitigation of the latter, in semi-wild Asian elephants (Elephas maximus). Our results showed that elephants first maintained a very high cooperation rate (average = 80.8% across 45 sessions). Elephants applied "block," "fight back," "leave," "move side," and "submission" as mitigation strategies and adjusted these strategies according to their affiliation and rank difference with competition initiators. They usually applied a "fight back" mitigation strategy as a sanction when competition initiators were low ranking or when they had a close affiliation, but were submissive if the initiators were high ranking or when they were not closely affiliated. However, when the food reward was limited, the costly competitive behaviors ("monopoly" and "fight") increased significantly, leading to a rapid breakdown in cooperation. The instability of elephant cooperation as a result of benefit reduction mirrors that of human society, suggesting that similar fundamental principles may underlie the evolution of cooperation across species.

Limited studies have focused on the impact of ambient air pollution on spina bifida. A population-based case-control study was conducted in Liaoning Province, China to assess the associations between maternal PM10 exposures in various exposure windows and spina bifida risk. Data on spina bifida cases born between 2010 and 2015 were available from the Maternal and Child Health Certificate Registry of Liaoning Province. Controls were a random sample of healthy livebirths without any birth defects delivered in the selected five cities during 2010–2015. Ambient air monitoring data for PM10 were obtained from 75 monitoring stations in Liaoning Province. The multivariable logistic regression models were established to calculate adjusted odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). We further performed sensitivity analyses by using three propensity score methods. A total of 749 spina bifida cases and 7,950 controls were included. After adjusting for potential confounders, spina bifida was associated with a 10 μg/m3 increment in PM10 during the first trimester of pregnancy (adjusted OR = 1.06, 95% CI: 1.00–1.12) and the 3 months before pregnancy (adjusted OR = 1.12, 95% CI: 1.06–1.19). The adjusted ORs in the final model for the highest vs. the lowest quartile were 1.51 (95% CI: 1.04–2.19) for PM10 during the first trimester of pregnancy and 2.01 (95% CI: 1.43–2.81) for PM10 during the 3 months before pregnancy. Positive associations were found between PM10 exposures during the single month exposure windows and spina bifida. Sensitivity analyses based on two propensity score methods largely reported similar positive associations. Our findings support the evidence that maternal PM10 exposure increases the risk of spina bifida in offspring. Further, validation with a prospective design and a more accurate exposure assessment is warranted.

Abstract Background Doxorubicin (DOX) is a chemotherapy drug for malignant tumors. The clinical application of DOX is limited due to its dosage relative cardiotoxicity. Oxidative damage and cardiac inflammation appear to be involved in DOX-related cardiotoxicity. Shenmai injection (SMI), which mainly consists of Panax ginsengC.A.Mey.and Ophiopogon japonicus (Thunb.) Ker Gawl, is widely used for the treatment of atherosclerotic coronary heart disease and viral myocarditis in China. In this study, we investigated the protective effect of Shenmai injection on doxorubicin-induced acute cardiac injury via the regulation of inflammatory mediators. Methods Male ICR mice were randomly divided into seven groups: control, DOX (10 mg/kg), SMI (5 g/kg), DOX with pretreatment with SMI (0.5 g/kg, 1.5 g/kg or 5 g/kg) and DOX with post-treatment with SMI (5 g/kg). Forty-eight hours after the last DOX administration, all mice were anesthetized for ultrasound echocardiography. Then, serum was collected for biochemical and inflammatory cytokine detection, and heart tissue was collected for histological and Western blot detection. Results A cumulative dose of DOX (10 mg/kg) induced acute cardiotoxicity in mice manifested by altered echocardiographic outcome, and increased tumor necrosis factor, interleukin 6 (IL-6), monocyte chemotactic protein 1, interferon-γ, and serum AST and LDH levels, as well as cardiac cytoplasmic vacuolation and myofibrillar disarrangement. DOX also caused the increase in the expression of IKK-α and iNOS and produced a large amount of NO, resulting in the accumulation of nitrotyrosine in the heart tissue. Pretreatment with SMI elicited a dose-dependent cardioprotective effect in DOX-dosed mice as evidenced by the normalization of serum inflammatory mediators, as well as improve dcardiac function and myofibril disarrangement. Conclusions SMI could recover inflammatory cytokine levels and suppress the expression of IKK-α and iNOS in vivo, which was increased by DOX. Overall, there was evidence that SMI could ameliorate DOX-induced cardiotoxicity by inhibiting inflammation and recovering heart dysfunction.

The activation of drugs within cellular systems may provide targeted therapies for cancer. Here, the authors make a drug delivery system that is activated within the cell and exploits XIAP expression to cleave a linker region, resulting in the self-assembly of the system and drug release within cancer cells.

The parameters revealing the collective behavior of hadronic matter extracted from the transverse momentum spectra of π+, π−, K+, K−, p, p¯, Ks0, Λ, Λ¯, Ξ or Ξ−, Ξ¯+ and Ω or Ω¯+ or Ω+Ω¯ produced in the most central and most peripheral gold–gold (Au–Au), copper–copper (Cu–Cu) and lead–lead (Pb–Pb) collisions at 62.4 GeV, 200 GeV and 2760 GeV, respectively, are reported. In addition to studying the nucleus–nucleus (AA) collisions, we analyzed the particles mentioned above produced in pp collisions at the same center of mass energies (62.4 GeV, 200 GeV and 2760 GeV) to compare with the most peripheral AA collisions. We used the Tsallis–Pareto type function to extract the effective temperature from the transverse momentum spectra of the particles. The effective temperature is slightly larger in a central collision than in a peripheral collision and is mass-dependent. The mean transverse momentum and the multiplicity parameter (N0) are extracted and have the same result as the effective temperature. All three extracted parameters in pp collisions are closer to the peripheral AA collisions at the same center of mass energy, revealing that the extracted parameters have the same thermodynamic nature. Furthermore, we report that the mean transverse momentum in the Pb–Pb collision is larger than that of the Au–Au and Cu–Cu collisions. At the same time, the latter two are nearly equal, which shows their comparatively strong dependence on energy and weak dependence on the size of the system. The multiplicity parameter, N0 in central AA, depends on the interacting system’s size and is larger for the bigger system.

China is home to a small but expanding population of wild Asian elephants (Elephas maximus). Both research interest and conservation efforts have increased in recent years, but these have been fragmented. Here we present the results from a collaborative, multi-sectorial, multi-stakeholder exercise to identify priorities for Chinese elephant research and conservation. We first compiled a comprehensive list of issues, categorized under nine research and nine conservation themes, through an on-line survey of stakeholders. These issues were subsequently consolidated, timelined (as short-, mid-, or long-term issues), and ranked by their perceived priority in a two-day workshop attended by 44 people representing 28 organizations. The initial list of 656 issues (337 research and 319 conservation) was consolidated into a list of 251 (121 research and 130 conservation) issues. After priority ranking, we retained the top-three issues within each theme (making a total of 55 priority issues, due to a tie), which are then discussed in detail in this paper. Most (87%, n = 55) priority issues were classified as short-term, suggesting that the exercise might have succeeded in identifying the current priorities, but not emerging issues that might require attention in future. Some issues appeared in various forms in different themes. Among research questions, participants highlighted the importance of understanding the carrying capacity of the current elephant range habitats, elephant movement patterns and expected range changes, the drivers of human-elephant conflict (HEC), improvements to the current HEC financial compensation mechanism, and ways of engaging local communities in HEC mitigation. Regarding elephant conservation, recurrent issues included effectively engaging communities, improving HEC early-warning systems and financial compensation mechanisms, establishing a new national park within elephant range, and creating mechanisms for communication and collaboration among elephant research and conservation stakeholders in China. Our exercise was effective in engaging experts from a diversity of different sectors and organizations in discussions about Asian elephants in China, and generated a list of priorities that can help guide elephant research and conservation efforts.

Background and aims: The application of prone positioning with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF) or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in non-intubation patients is increasing gradually, applying prone positioning for more high-flow nasal oxygen therapy (HFNC) and non-invasive ventilation (NIV) patients. This meta-analysis evaluates the efficacy and tolerance of prone positioning combined with non-invasive respiratory support in patients with AHRF or ARDS. Methods: We searched randomized controlled trials (RCTs) (prospective or retrospective cohort studies, RCTs and case series) published in PubMed , EMBASE and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from 1 January 2000 to 1 July 2020. We included studies that compared prone and supine positioning with non-invasive respiratory support in awake patients with AHRF or ARDS. The meta-analyses used random effects models. The methodological quality of the RCTs was evaluated using the Newcastle–Ottawa quality assessment scale. Results: A total of 16 studies fulfilled selection criteria and included 243 patients. The aggregated intubation rate and mortality rate were 33% [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.26–0.42, I 2 = 25%], 4% (95% CI: 0.01–0.07, I 2 = 0%), respectively, and the intolerance rate was 7% (95% CI: 0.01–0.12, I 2 = 5%). Prone positioning increased PaO 2 /FiO 2 [mean difference (MD) = 47.89, 95% CI: 28.12–67.66; p 5 h/day) were 34% and 21%, respectively; and the mortality rate of shorter duration prone (⩽5 h/day) and longer duration prone (>5 h/day) were 6% and 0%, respectively. PaO 2 /FiO 2 and SpO 2 were significantly improved in COVID-19 patients and non-COVID-19 patients. Conclusion: Prone positioning could improve the oxygenation and reduce respiratory rate in both COVID-19 patients and non-COVID-19 patients with non-intubated AHRF or ARDS. Objective: To explore the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation combined with cognitive training on executive function and activities of daily living performance among stroke patients. Methods: A total of 50 subjects were enrolled and randomly allocated into 2 groups of 25 each. The real-transcranial direct current stimulation group was simultaneously subjected to transcranial direct current stimulation and cognitive training, while the sham-transcranial direct current stimulation group was simultaneously subjected to sham transcranial direct current stimulation and cognitive training. At baseline, and after treatment, each subject was assessed with the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), Stroop Color-Word Test (SCWT), Digital Symbol Test (DST), Mini-mental State Examination (MMSE), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Activities of Daily Living Scale (ADLs). Results: After treatment, the gains in most indices of WCST, SCWT, DST, MMSE, MoCA and ADLs in the real-transcranial direct current stimulation group were significantly higher than those in the sham-transcranial direct current stimulation group (p0.05). Conclusion: Transcranial direct current stimulation combined with cognitive training was found to significantly enhance executive function and instrumental activities of daily living performance among stroke patients.

Aiming at the optimization problem of multiple objectives with contradictions and conflicts in the process of allocating the tolerance for complex products, taking advantage of the features of coordinating, and balancing contradictions and conflicts of cooperative game theory, this paper uses cooperative game theory to solve the multiobjective optimization problem of tolerance allocation. The quality requirements and cost requirements of assembly products are used as the game decision parties, and the fuzzy clustering method is used to group the design variables of tolerance allocation problem of the steam turbine to form the strategic space of game parties. Take the quality level and cost level of the assembly product as the optimization goals, complete the calculation of the utilities of the two game parties, and establish the multiobjective optimization model of tolerance allocation based on cooperative game theory. Finally, the Shapley value method based on cooperative game theory, the Nash equilibrium method based on noncooperative game theory, and the traditional single-objective optimization method with the quality as the constraint and the cost as the optimization objective are used to solve the tolerance allocation problem of steam turbine. The solution results show that the method of cooperative game realized the balance, coordination, and comprehensive optimization of the quality and cost from the perspective of collective interests, overcame the shortcomings of the traditional single-objective optimization method, and obtained better result than the Nash equilibrium method.

Land use and land cover (LULC) play a significant role in carbon regulation. South-China accounts for ~65% of China’s carbon sink. In Xishuangbanna (South-China), rubber is expanding rapidly creating an urgent need to understand and monitor LULC change and how spatial variation affects carbon storage (CS). This is vital for the formation and implementation of better land use management practices. We studied LULC changes of 22-year period; addressing how these changes have affected the CS. We quantified LULC changes between1988 and 2010 using remote sensing methods and calculated CS changes using InvEST. Results showed that between 1988 and 2010, the rate of deforestation accelerated to 203.2 km2 y−1 and ~23% of forest were lost. Conversion of natural forest to rubber was responsible for 78% of this deforestation. Rubber expansion rate was 153.4 km2 y−1. Changes to LULC drove a temporal CS reduction 0.223 Tg C/km2. Local stakeholders have strong economic interest in converting land to more profitable plantations. Government efforts is required to control land conversion through new policies and incentives to retain natural forest. Assessment of specific potential land use change will be required to avoid promoting the conversion of high carbon storage land uses to low carbon storage land uses.

Insect-specific viruses (ISV) are one of the most promising agents for the biological control of insects. The green leafhopper, Cicadella viridis (Linnaeus), is an significant pest in agriculture, and causes economic losses to fruit trees, willows, and field crops. As a representative species of the large family Cicadellidae, ISVs in C. viridis have never been studied, to date. In this study, the full genome sequences of two ISVs, named Cicadella viridis iflavirus1 (CvIfV1), and Cicadella viridis nido-like virus 1 (CvNiLV1), were revealed using a metatranscriptomic approach. A homology search and phylogenetic analysis indicated that CvIfV1 is a new member in the family Iflaviridae (genus Iflavirus) with a typical iflavirus genome organization, whereas CvNiLV1 belongs to the unclassified clade/family of the order Nidovirales. In addition, analysis of virus-derived small interfering RNAs (vsiRNAs) was performed to investigate the antiviral RNA interference (RNAi) response of C. viridis. The vsiRNAs exhibit typical patterns produced by host siRNA-mediated antiviral immunity, including a preference of 21-nt vsiRNAs derived equally from the sense and antisense genomic strands, and a strong A/U bias in the 5′-terminus of the viral genomes. Our study provides valuable information for ISVs in leafhoppers for the first time, which might prove useful in the control of C. viridis in future.

Abstract Background Age‐related cataracts (ARC) is the most common blinding eye disease worldwide, and its incidence tend to become younger. However, the relationship between genetic factors and mechanisms is not fully understood. The aim of the study was to further clarify the relationship between ARC and genetic mechanisms in East Asian populations and to elucidate the pathogenesis. Methods The study collected 191 sporadic cataracts and 208 healthy people from the eastern provinces of China, with an average age of about 60 years. All participants were subjected to a comprehensive ophthalmic clinical examination and peripheral blood samples were collected and their genomic DNA was extracted. Mutations were screened among 792 candidate genes to enhance understanding of the disease through targeted capture and high‐throughput sequencing. Results We identified novel candidate susceptibility gene, which may serve as a potential susceptibility factor leading to an increase in the incidence of age‐related cataracts. Three novel loci are associated with age‐related cataracts significant significance: rs129882 in DBH (p = 5.27E‐07, odds ratio = 3.9), rs1800280 in DMD (p = 2.85E‐06, odds ratio = 1.4) and rs2871776 in ATP13A2 (p = 4.18E‐05, odds ratio = 0.04). Gene–gene interaction analysis revealed that the most significant interactions between genes include the interaction between DBH and TUB (rs17847537 in TUB, rs129882 in DBH, p‐value = 2.12E‐14), and the interaction between DBH and DMD (rs1800280 in DMD, rs129882 in DBH, p‐value = 2.12E‐14). Pathway analysis shows that the most significant processes are concentrated in response to light stimulation (adjusted p‐Value = 5.56E‐03), response to radiation (adjusted P‐Value = 5.56E‐03), abiotic stimulus (adjusted p‐Value = 5.56E‐03). eQTL analysis shows that DBH rs129882 could regulate the expression of DBH mRNA in various tissues including retina. Conclusion Our study indicates rs129882 and rs1800280 loci are associated with age‐related cataracts, which enlarge the gene map of age‐related cataracts.

Severe pneumonia with sepsis is characterized by a dysregulated inflammatory response of endotoxin. In our study, we attempted to investigate the roles of the immune guardian cells (monocytes) in the immune-inflammatory response of severe pneumonia-induced sepsis. We performed analysis in the blood samples of human and animals with ELISA, western blot, flow cytometry (FCM) methods, etc. Results showed that the proinflammatory status shifted to hypoinflammatory phases during the sepsis process. In a clinical study, the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, etc., except for IL-10, were inhibited in the late phase of sepsis, while, in an animal study, the immune suppression status was attenuated with administration of the adenovirus Ade-HIF-1α. Conversely, the amount of IL-10 was lower in the adenovirus Ade-HIF-1α group compared with the sepsis model group and the Ade-control group. Moreover, in the clinical study, the programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) was overexpressed in monocytes in the late phase of sepsis, while the expression of proteins HIF-1α and STAT3 was decreased in the late phase of sepsis. However, in the animal study, we found that the HIF-1α factor facilitated the inflammatory response. The expression of the proteins HIF-1α and STAT3 was increased, and the PD-L1 protein was decreased with the adenovirus Ade-HIF-1α administration compared with the rats without Ade-HIF-1α injection and with the Ade-control injection. Additionally, the proteins HIF-1α and STAT3 were coregulated at transcriptional levels during the inflammatory responses of sepsis. Taken together, monocytes undergo reprogramming to generate immunosuppression through the HIF-1α signaling pathway in the late phase of sepsis.

Transverse momentum (mass) spectra of positively and negatively charged pions and of positively and negatively charged kaons, protons, and antiprotons produced at mid-(pseudo)rapidity in various collisions at high energies are analyzed in this work. The experimental data measured in central gold-gold, central lead-lead, and inelastic proton-proton collisions by several international collaborations are studied. The (two-component) standard distribution is used to fit the data and extract the excitation function of effective temperature. Then, the excitation functions of kinetic freeze-out temperature, transverse flow velocity, and initial temperature are obtained. In the considered collisions, the four parameters increase with the increase of collision energy in general, and the kinetic freeze-out temperature appears at the trend of saturation at the top Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and the Large Hadron Collider.

Aiming at the problems of the lack of abnormal instances and the lag of quality anomaly discovery in quality database, this paper proposed the method of recognizing quality anomaly from the quality control chart data by probabilistic neural network (PNN) optimized by improved genetic algorithm, which made up deficiencies of SPC control charts in practical application. Principal component analysis (PCA) reduced the dimension and extracted the feature of the original data of a control chart, which reduced the training time of PNN. PNN recognized successfully both single pattern and mixed pattern of control charts because of its simple network structure and excellent recognition effect. In order to eliminate the defect of experience value, the key parameter of PNN was optimized by the improved (SGA) single-target optimization genetic algorithm, which made PNN achieve a higher rate of recognition accuracy than PNN optimized by standard genetic algorithm. Finally, the above method was validated by a simulation experiment and proved to be the most effective method compared with traditional BP neural network, single PNN, PCA-PNN without parameters optimized, and SVM optimized by particle swarm optimization algorithm.

We analyzed the transverse momentum spectra of positively and negatively charged pions (π+ and π−), positively and negatively charged kaons (K+ and K−), protons and antiprotons (p and p¯), as well as ϕ produced in mid-(pseudo)rapidity region in central nucleus–nucleus (AA) collisions over a center-of-mass energy range from 2.16 to 2760 GeV per nucleon pair. The transverse momentum of the considered particle is regarded as the joint contribution of two participant partons which obey the modified Tsallis-like transverse momentum distribution and have random azimuths in superposition. The calculation of transverse momentum distribution of particles is performed by the Monte Carlo method and compared with the experimental data measured by international collaborations. The excitation functions of effective temperature and other parameters are obtained in the considered energy range. With the increase of collision energy, the effective temperature parameter increases quickly and then slowly. The boundary appears at around 5 GeV, which means the change of reaction mechanism and/or generated matter.

Abstract Objective In December 2017, an acute gastroenteritis outbreak involving 61 students occurred in a boarding high school in Beijing, China. We conducted an outbreak investigation immediately in order to determine the cause of this outbreak and provide effective control measures. Results The laboratory inspection showed that this outbreak was caused by GII.P16-GII.2 norovirus. Risk factor analysis indicated that the lunch provided by Cafeteria 1 on Dec 12 might be the risk factor of the outbreak with an odds ratio (OR) of 3.800 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.089–13.258). Additionally, a tray line server of Cafeteria 1 was found to have gastro-enteral symptoms recently. Based on the clinical symptoms and epidemiology investigation, the symptomatic server was considered to be the possible source of infection.
