The impact of broad-spectrum β-lactamases on the susceptibility to novel β-lactamase/β-lactamase inhibitor combinations was evaluated both in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli using isogenic backgrounds. Cefepime-zidebactam displayed low MICs, mainly due to the significant intrinsic antibacterial activity of zidebactam. Cefepime-taniborbactam showed excellent activity against recombinant E. coli strains, including metallo-β-lactamase producers, whereas aztreonam-avibactam remained the best therapeutic option against class B β-lactamase-producing P. aeruginosa.

The displacement of dental implants into the maxillary sinus is increasingly reported and may lead to serious complications. Better knowledge of this condition could help clinicians improve their practice, but it is difficult to draw conclusions from the current literature. Therefore, a systematic review was performed to describe the main characteristics of dental implant displacement, as well as its management and temporal evolution over a 31-year period. This review was conducted according to the PRISMA methodology. The PubMed/Scopus electronic databases were searched to December 2021. Risk of bias was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute tools. A total of 73 articles reporting 321 patients with displaced dental implants were included. Implants located in the upper first molar site were the most frequently involved (23.7%). Displacement occurred mainly during the first 6 months after implant placement (62.6%). The majority became symptomatic (56.2%), most often due to maxillary sinusitis and/or oroantral communication (44.2%). The surgical approaches to remove displaced implants were the lateral approach (38.1%), the Caldwell-Luc approach (27.2%), and endoscopic nasal surgery (23.1%). The chemical profiles of PM 2.5 emitted from a non-road diesel generator, wood burning and cooking activities including chicken and beef charcoal grilling and general cooking activities were determined. The characterization included the carbonaceous fraction (OC/EC), water-soluble ions, elements, and organic species comprising n-alkanes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, carboxylic acids, levoglucosan, dioxins, furans, and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls. The main component in the PM 2.5 from the different sources was carbonaceous matter with a mass contribution to PM 2.5 of 49% for cooking activities, 53% for wood burning, 66% for beef grilling, 72% for chicken grilling, and 74% for diesel generator with different OC/EC concentration ratios. The analysis of organic compounds contents using diagnostic ratios and indexes showed differences between the sources and revealed specific source markers. The water-soluble ions had the highest contribution in the cooking activities profile with 17% of PM 2.5 and the least in the chicken grilling profile (1.1%). Additionally, 29 analyzed elements were identified, and their contribution varied with the sources (ranging from 1% to 11% of PM 2.5 ). In order to reduce exposure to toxic chemicals, the European REACH regulation (1907/2006) recommends substituting toxic molecules with compounds that are less harmful to human health and the environment. Toluene is one of the most frequently used solvents in industries despite its toxicity. The objective of this study is to better understand and compare the toxicity of toluene and its homologues in a bronchial cell model. Thus, human bronchial BEAS-2B cells were exposed to steams of toluene, m-xylene, mesitylene (1,3,5-trimethylbenzene), and benzene (20 and 100 ppm). Exposure was carried out using an air-liquid interface (ALI) system (Vitrocell) during 1 h/day for 1, 3, or 5 days. Cytotoxicity, xenobiotic metabolism enzyme gene expression, and inflammatory response were evaluated following cell exposures. BEAS-2B cell exposure to toluene and its homologues revealed the involvement of major (CYP2E1) and minor metabolic pathways (CYP1A1). A late induction of genes (EPHX1, DHDH, ALDH2, and ALDH3B1) was measured from Day 3 and can be linked to the formation of metabolites. An increase in the secretion level of inflammatory markers (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8, MCP-1, and GM-CSF) was also observed. In parallel, regulation between inflammatory mediators and the expression of transmembrane glycoprotein mucin MUC1 was also studied. This in vitro approach with ALI system points out the relevance of conducting repeated exposures to detect potential late effects.
