This paper deals with the issue of demographic aging of the European Union. Its aim is to describe the process of demographic aging, and to evaluate the demographic situation of the European Union at the turn of the third millennium. Today, demographic aging is considered one of the most important challenges of many developed economies. Its range and speed are particularly dependent on the development of average life expectancy, the level of fertility and migration process. The demographic changes rank among the most important future challenges of the European Union as a whole and its member states. Demographic aging impacts the society and its economics, infrastructure and government. Hence, the great scope strategies in the fields of economics, spatial planning, education, transportation, accommodation, and social inclusion having to take into account all the factors provoked by an aging population. It is appropriate to remember that the increasing share of the older population leads an increase in both their contributions to society and their needs from society or consumers’ and citizens’ requirements and expectations. Tento příspěvek pojednává o problematice demografického stárnutí v prostředí Evropské unie. Jeho cílem je popis problematiky demografického stárnutí a následné zhodnocení demografické situace v zemích Evropské unie na přelomu druhého a třetího tisíciletí. Demografické stárnutí patří k významným problémům mnoha vyspělých států současného světa, jeho rozsah a tempo je závislé zejména na vývoji střední délky života, úrovni porodnosti a migraci. Demografické změny jsou považovány za jeden z největších budoucích problémů Evropské unie jako celku i jejích jednotlivých zemí. Demografické stárnutí má neoddiskutovatelný dopad na společnost, její ekonomiku, infrastrukturu i správu. Pro úspěšný rozvoj společnosti je nutností zohlednit faktory vyvolané stárnutím populace a začlenit jejich řešení do širokého spektra strategií v oblastech jako jsou hospodářství, územní plánování, vzdělávání, doprava, bydlení a sociální začlenění. Je vhodné pamatovat na skutečnost, že se zvyšujícím se podílem zastoupení v populaci roste důležitost starších lidí a jejich přínosů ve prospěch společnosti, ale také jejich požadavků jako spotřebitelů a očekávání jako občanů.

Tento příspěvek pojednává o hrozbě nedostatku vody v České republice v kontextu celosvětových klimatických změn. Jeho cílem je posouzení hydrologické situace České republiky a zhodnocení oprávněnosti obav z nedostatku vody a připravenosti státu na tuto hrozbu reagovat. Popisuje příčiny i rozsáhlé negativní důsledky klimatických změn, mezi jejichž nejvýznamnější pozorované projevy v posledních letech patří změny teploty, změny srážkového režimu, změny sněhové pokrývky, ledovců a hladin oceánů. Dále je připomenut zásadní význam vody pro lidskou společnost a pojednáno o problematice nedostatku vody v celosvětovém měřítku. Na tuto hrozbu upozorňují mnohé mezinárodní organizace, např. Organizace spojených národů či Světové ekonomické fórum. Následně je pozornost upřena na situaci v České republice. Z prezentovaných hydrologických údajů lze vyvodit závěr, že v České republice je vody prozatím dostatek, avšak do budoucna je třeba počítat se zvýšeným výskytem sucha. V této souvislosti byla orgány veřejné správy ustanovena mezirezortní komise VODA-SUCHO. Ta by měla přispět k řešení problematiky negativních dopadů výskytu sucha a nedostatku vody na území České republiky. This paper focus on the threat of water scarcity in the Czech Republic in terms of global climate change. Its aim is to examine the hydrologic situation in the Czech Republic, furthermore it seeks to evaluate the legitimacy of concerns about water scarcity, and state's readiness to respond to such a threat. The paper describes causes and large negative consequences of climate change like changes in temperature, precipitation regime, snow cover, glaciers and see levels. One can claim those consequences belong among the most important effects that recently occurred. The paper recalled the importance of water for human society and discussed the issue of water scarcity around the world. There are many international organizations pointing out the issue of water scarcity, e.g. United Nations, and World Economic Forum. In addition, the attention is focused on the situation of Czech Republic. The empirical data lead us to conclusion that there is enough water for now in the Czech Republic, but in the future increased incidence of drought is expected. To face this issue, the public sector established an interdepartmental commission called WATER-DROUGHT. This instrument should contribute to solving the negative impacts of drought and water scarcity in the Czech Republic.
