Integrated energy supply service stations (IES) are a new type of transportation energy infrastructure offering the advantages of comprehensive functions and intensive land use while providing more convenient and efficient energy supply services. Through the analysis of service station characteristics, this study regards the IES as a spatially superimposed combination of various energy supply services, proposes a layout method from the perspective of combination optimization, and establishes a station optimization model for energy supply stations. This method aims to further coordinate and optimize the combination of various energy supply stations to achieve global optimization of the energy supply service system. Finally, this study uses a hypothetical situation for example analysis to verify the validity and rationality of the method. Objectives: This scoping study aims to identify environmental road safety measures implemented in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to reduce pedestrian injuries from collisions with motor vehicles. Methods: This review followed Arksey and O'Malley's approach and reported results using the PRISMA-SCR 2018 checklist. A literature review was conducted in Medline, Google Scholar, and the Transport Research International Documentation database using keyword-derived medical subject heading terms. A total of 14 articles met the pre-established inclusion criteria and were analyzed using a data extraction matrix. The findings were categorized methodically into three prominent themes: (1) methods for reducing pedestrian exposure, (2) traffic calming strategies, and (3) measures for enhancing pedestrian visibility. Results: Traffic calming strategies, including vehicular speed reduction, roadway contraction, and vertical and horizontal diversionary tactics, emerged as the most effective interventions for reducing pedestrian injuries within LMICs. Conversely, interventions geared towards minimizing pedestrian exposure, such as zebra crossings, crosswalks controlled by traffic signals, underpasses, or overpasses, often produced minimal effects, and occasionally exacerbated the risk of pedestrian accidents. Lack of pedestrian visibility due to density of street vendors and parked vehicles was associated with a higher risk of injuries, while billboards impaired drivers' attention and increased the likelihood of collisions with pedestrians. Discussion: In LMICs, the effectiveness of environmental measures in reducing vehicle–pedestrian crashes varies widely. The CO2 emission factor is the basis for analyzing vehicle CO2 emissions. This study establishes a correlation model between the fuel CO2 emission factor and the mileage-based CO2 emission factor using fuel consumption data, then analyzes the fuel consumption and CO2 emission situation of vehicles in Beijing with the established models. The main research conclusions are as follows: The proposed correlation models are effective for analyzing urban vehicle CO2 emissions. Cars can only meet the national standard limit when traveling at an average speed of 42.17 km/h. During rush hours, fuel consumption in most cities in China exceeds national standards, making it urgent to improve urban traffic efficiency. Due to the decline in urban traffic conditions in Beijing in 2023 (average speed decreased from 29.14 km/h to 24.26 km/h), each passenger car consumes an average of 0.282 L more gasoline per day, emitting an additional 619.87 g of CO2. Objectives: We tested a model of goal-directed framework to predict the sleep desires, intentions, and behaviors of employed college students who operated motor vehicles. Methods: Model building procedures included exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. Results: Significant paths were identified among attitude towards the behavior, positive emotions, and negative emotions for behavioral desires (R2=.654). Direct paths were identified between perceived behavioral control and behavioral desires for behavioral intentions (R2=.513). Finally, direct paths were identified between perceived behavioral control and behavioral intentions for sleep behavior (R2=.464). Conclusions: The model of goal-directed behaviors appears robust for predicting sleep behaviors and may serve as an efficacious framework for developing interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction Each year, more than 130,000 children younger than 13 years are treated in the emergency department after evaluation of injuries sustained from motor vehicle crashes (MVCs). Many of these injuries can be prevented with use of child restraints. In this study we sought to assess emergency nurses’ knowledge of child passenger safety (CPS) and its use to keep children safe while traveling in motor vehicles. Methods A cross-sectional anonymous study was distributed electronically to 530 emergency nurses who were asked to forward the survey link to other emergency nurses through snowball sampling. The target population included full-time and part-time emergency nurses, including nurse practitioners caring for pediatric patients. Emergency nurses’ CPS knowledge, attitudes, and practices were ascertained. Results Nine hundred eighty-four emergency nurses completed a Web-based survey. All 6 CPS knowledge and scenario-based items were answered correctly by only 18.8% of the sample; these respondents were identified as the “high knowledge” group. Similarly, ED nurses rarely addressed CPS during ED visits in the prior 6 months. Those with high knowledge were more likely to be confident about providing recommendations for CPS topics. Discussion Emergency nurses can improve their knowledge and provision of CPS in the emergency department, particularly for children presenting for care following MVCs. These results identify opportunities to increase the knowledge and confidence of emergency nurses in providing CPS information to parents seen in the emergency department, especially those involved in MVCs. This article presents the properties of EtG synthetic fuel (Ethanol to Gasoline) as a substitute for fuels in an installation using ethanol from food waste as a raw material. The results of this research on the process of supplying the engine with EtG fuel are presented, in which the operational suitability of this fuel was verified, including environmental requirements. The results of pollutant emission tests from vehicles with spark-ignition engines in dynamic driving conditions in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) type approval tests and the World Harmonized Test Cycle (WLTC) test, both on a "cold" and "hot engine", are presented. It was found that EtG fuel is characterized by lower emissions of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and methane, and higher emissions of non-methane hydrocarbons compared to E10 commercial gasoline, while the specific distance emission of carbon dioxide for both fuels was very similar. Age-Friendly Cities (AFC) is a framework for promoting healthy ageing through local actions. We use systems thinking to assess potential outcomes of actions to support older people's mobility, undertaken within an AFC commitment in Greater Sydney. Interviews with 20 informants involved in providing space, infrastructure, or services that affect how older people get around were analysed using causal loop diagrams (CLDs). Four approaches to support older people's mobility were identified and situated to the Multiple Governance Framework: land use, open and public space, supplementary transport, and community transport. Analysis revealed potential for unwanted consequences associated with each, which can be generalised into three generic potential outcomes for other jurisdictions to consider. A recommendation from this research is for policy actors to examine feedback interactions between actions so that they can foresee a wider range of outcomes and take defensive action against those unwanted. By situating CLDs within the Multiple Governance Framework, this research not only identifies what to look for, in terms of potential outcomes, but also where to look, in terms of the level of decision-making. This research offers a new way to assess the functioning of AFC governance networks by their collective outcomes and challenges the standards for the evaluation of AFC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Since the 1990s, extensive regulations to reduce traffic-related air pollution (TRAP) have been implemented, yet the effectiveness of these regulations has not been assessed with respect to improving infant health. In this study, we evaluate how infant health risks associated with maternal residences near highways during pregnancy have changed over time.Methods: We created a population-based retrospective birth cohort with geocoded residential addresses in Texan metropolitan areas from 1996 through 2009 (n = 2 259 411). We compared term birthweight (37-42 weeks of gestation) among maternal residences <300 m from a highway (high TRAP exposure) (n = 394 346) and 500-3500 m from a highway (comparison group) (n = 1 865 065). We implemented linear regressions to evaluate interactions between high TRAP exposure and birth year, adjusting for demographics, socioeconomic status and neighbourhood context. In addition, we used propensity score matching to further reduce residual confounding.Results: From 1996 to 2009, outdoor NO2 decreased by 51.3%, based on regulatory monitoring data in Texas. Among pregnant women who resided in the high TRAP zone during pregnancy, interaction terms between residential location and birth year show that birthweight increased by 1.1 g [95% confidence interval CI): 0.7, 1.5) in unadjusted models and 0.3 g (95% CI: 0.0, 0.6) in matched models. Time-stratified models also show decreasing impacts of living in high TRAP areas on birthweight when comparing infants born in 1996-97 with 2008-09. Sensitivity analyses with alternative exposure and control groups show consistent results.Conclusions: Infant health risks associated with maternal residence near highways have reduced over time, paralleling regulatory measures to improve exhaust pipe emissions. Objective: to investigate the association between the condition of physical pre-frailty in elderly people and the final results of the driver license test for motor vehicles. Methods: cross-sectional study carried out with 347 elderly who underwent driver license tests. A questionnaire and tests were applied, and information on the result of the driver license test was collected. A descriptive statistical analysis and a non-parametric test were performed. Results: 163 (47.0%) were found to be pre-frail, 71 (43.6%) had reduced hand grip strength, 65 (39.9%) had reduced level of physical activity and 62 (38.0%), reduced gait speed. The result of the driver test indicated 115 (70.6%) pre-frail elderly to be able to drive with restriction. Pre-frailty was not associated with the results of the driver license test (p=0.744). Conclusion: although the pre-frail condition was frequent, there was no significant association with the result of the driver test.

Towards exploring advanced applications of terahertz (THz) electromagnetic waves, great efforts are being applied to develop a compact and sensitive THz receiver. Here, we propose a simple coherent detection system using a single resonant tunnelling diode (RTD) oscillator through self-oscillating mixing with an RTD oscillator injection-locked by a carrier wave. Coherent detection is successfully demonstrated with an enhancement in the sensitivity of >20 dB compared to that of direct detection. As a proof of concept, we performed THz wireless communications using an RTD coherent receiver and transmitter. We achieved 30-Gbit/s real-time error-free transmission, which is the highest among all electronic systems without error correction to date. Our results show that the proposed system can reduce the size and power consumption of various THz systems including sensing, imaging and ranging, which would enable progress to be made in a wide range of fields in such as material science, medicine, chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy, security, robotics and motor vehicle.
