25. Degradación de rojo congo en un fotorreactor tubular de tecnología excimer. Estudio cinético

Abstract

Como ampliación al estudio realizado sobre la fotodegradación de rojo congo con lámparas discontinuas de tecnologíaexcimer de XeBr, KrCl y Cl2, en este trabajo se ha estudiado la fotodegradación de dicho colorante mediante un fotorreactor continuo de KrCl, con recirculación, con H2O2 y con reactivo Fenton. Del estudio de la influencia de las condiciones de operación, se han seleccionado los valores de caudal y de concentración inicial de rojo congo óptimos para su degradación. Adicionalmente, se ha comprobado que la degradación de rojo congo mejora al aumentar la cantidad de H2O2 adicionada al medio hasta una relación molar H2O2: rojo congo de 75:1 a partir de la cual ya no aumenta más. Además, la fotodegradación de rojo congo también se ve favorecida al aumentar la concentración de Fe2+ al utilizar el reactivo Fenton.El modelo modificado de pseudo primer orden propuestopreviamente se ha aplicado a este tipo de reactor. Delajuste del modelo, se ha obtenido la tendencia de la constantede velocidad (k), para las diferentes series experimentales.Además, los valores calculados con el modelopara la conversión de rojo congo se han comparado conlos experimentales, obteniéndose un buen ajuste lineal.Finalmente, se ha realizado un análisis ANOVA confirmándosela validez del modelo.

26. Photodegradation of 2-methyl-4-chlorophenol in a KrCl exciplex flow-through photoreactor: a kinetic study.

Abstract

The removal of 2-methyl-4-chlorophenol (MC), the main photoproduct from 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid oxidation, has been studied with an advanced oxidation treatment and, for this purpose, a KrCl exciplex flow-through photoreactor was tested. Preliminary results show that the use of UV treatment leads to practically total MC degradation in 10, 60 or 90 min for the initial concentrations of 0.2, 1.0 or 2.0 mM, respectively. However, to attain higher elimination of the main photoproducts, 2-MH and 2-MB, addition of an oxidizing agent, such as hydrogen peroxide, is necessary. With molar ratios H2O2/MC/1 or higher, smaller concentrations of photoproducts are obtained after the treatment. Additional chemical analysis, such as chemical oxygen demand (COD) suggests that although COD is smaller after the treatment than before, for the highest H2O2concentrations an excess of H2O2remains in the medium, which increases this parameter, being required longer treatment times. Total phenols, pH, and residual chlorine also confirm these results. Besides, a photodegradation mechanism, based on the formation of an unstable intermediate compound that quickly degrades to the photoproducts, was also proposed. A kinetic model was developed and the good level of approximation between experimental and theoretical conversion values for all the experiments confirms the validity of the model. 27. Removal of 4-chloro-2-methylphenol from aqueous solutions by nanofiltration and reverse osmosis

Abstract

Chloromethylphenols are typical phenolic pollutants frequently found in wastewater treatment plants and industrial landfill leachates, while pressure-driven membrane processes have been demonstrated to be a practical and competitive alternative for their removal. The performance of two membranes (an NF99 nanofiltration membrane and an RO99 reverse osmosis membrane) for removing 4-chloro-2-methylphenol (4C2MP) from synthetic solutions at different pressures, feed concentrations and feed pH values is compared in this paper using permeate flux and rejection as representative parameters. Higher permeate fluxes were obtained with the NF99 membrane but higher rates of 4C2MP rejection were obtained with the RO99 membrane. There was a substantial increase in 4C2MP rejection as the pH was increased from 8 to 11 in the case of the NF99 membrane. The results are explained by the different chemical structures of the active layers of both membranes.
