実践報告, 本稿は、筆者が2017年度より担当している「教員による派遣留学相談」についての実践報告を行うとともに、留学相談の意義と教員の役割を明らかにして、今後の留学相談の充実に向けた提案を行うことを目的としている。そこで、相談者へのアンケート結果や相談メモ等から得られた留学相談内容を、修正版グラウンデッド・セオリー・アプローチを援用して分析した結果、「教員による留学相談図」を提示した。さらに、留学相談の回答事例を整理・分析することにより、留学相談における教員の役割として、「疑問の解決」「課題の明確化」「選択肢の提供」「視野の拡大」の4 つを明らかにすることができた。

調査報告, 本稿は、現段階における感染症制御後の大学間学生交流再開の方針、留学形態（対面やオンライン）の見通し、国内での合意形成に関して、学校種類別による比較検討を行い、日本のニューノーマル期の大学間学生交流再開の傾向を明らかにすることを目的としている。大学を代表する立場である担当教職員による179校からの回答を、国公私立別、大学規模別、SGU校別、病院の有無別に分析を行った。その結果、国際交流について大学種類別の特徴が明らかとなった。また、日本の大学は全体的に国内での合意形成を重視しない傾向がある。そのため、今後は、国内の大学同士の情報共有をより活発に行うことが、日本におけるニューノーマル期の大学間学生交流の再開のために重要であることが示唆された。

実践報告, 英語による授業担当者が抱える悩みを明らかにするため、国際交流科目担当教員・TA 対象のFD 研修において、参加者に悩みとその解決策を挙げてもらい、それを、修正版グラウンデッド・セオリー・アプローチ（M-GTA）を援用してカテゴリー化を行った。その結果、悩みを18のカテゴリーと3つの大カテゴリー、具体的には、〔授業内容に関する悩み〕、〔学生に関する悩み〕、〔教員の悩み〕に分類することができた。さらに、それらを上位の最終的カテゴリーで包括し、最初の2項目を「授業研究関連」、残りの1項目を「授業運営関連」として整理した。解決策に関しては、FD 研修で収集できたデータを、先行研究の知見を考慮しながら、上記の悩みカテゴリーをもとに整理した。最終的には、「英語で国際交流科目を教えるためのティーチング・ティップス」として図示することで、国際交流科目特有の悩みが明らかになった。

In fast-growing coastal cities, dependable public transport, diversity of modes, and social inclusion are among several factors that contribute to resilient transport. However, these factors depend critically on whether key ridership segments are aware of the benefits of public transport. This article describes the effects of an awareness raising campaign intended to encourage junior high school students to use public transport in Semarang, Indonesia. The article analyzes the campaign’s impact by comparing student responses to a survey on the use of the bus system for school trips before and after the campaign in three junior high schools in Semarang. The survey demonstrated that, though a diversity of modes exist for school trips, parents often influence student mode choices. For some respondents, parents preferred family drop-offs and online taxi pick-up services to public transport. However, the public bus or quasi-bus rapid transit (BRT) (known as Trans Semarang) may hold promise to increase student mode share because it offers comfort, security, opportunities to socialize as well as discounted student prices. Encouraging a modal shift from private to public transport for school may improve urban transport resilience. However, a lack of public bus infrastructure remains a sizable hurdle to this worthy objective

論文, Research Article, 本研究は，日本国内のK 大学で行われている英語での授業に対して、留学生による授業評価アンケートを分析し、教員による適切な回答が授業満足度に与える影響を検討した。また、補助的に、授業中における日本人学生との交流機会、教員の英語のわかりやすさ、ティーチング・アシスタント（以下、TA）の授業への貢献度、授業の見通しが、授業満足度に与える影響も調査した。授業評価アンケートは、2010年から2018 年の9年間にわたって、各学期に中間と期末の2回実施され、分析対象となった授業科目数は延べ382科目、サンプル数は9,672件である。SPSSによる分析の結果、教員が適切な回答をしている授業は満足度が高く、また日本人学生との交流機会も満足度に影響を与えていた。そして、教員の英語のわかりやすさと授業の見通しも、授業満足度に関係していたが、TAの授業への貢献度との関連はみられなかった。本研究より、英語による授業を担当する教員にとって、学生からの質問に対して適切に回答すること、日本人学生との交流機会を提供すること、学生とのコミュニケーションを重視すること、わかりやすく適度な声で話すこと、授業の見通しを工夫することの重要性が示唆された。, This study investigates the effects of instructors’ appropriate answers to questions from students on student satisfaction of classes taught in English at “K University” in Japan by analyzing class evaluations completed by international students. Furthermore, other factors such as interactions with Japanese students during classes, the teachers’ English understandability, contributions to the classes by teaching assistant (TA), and well-constructed class plans, were also examined regarding satisfaction of the classes. Class evaluations were conducted twice each semester as mid-term and term-end evaluations for 9 years: from 2010 to 2018. A total of 9,672 students in 382 classes completed evaluation questionnaires. Analyses of these questionnaires, using a correlation analysis and a multiple variable regression analysis, revealed that the factors of instructors’ appropriate answers to questions from students have a significant relationship on student satisfaction of classes. Moreover, interaction with Japanese students, the understandability of the teachers’ English and well-constructed class plans were also influential factors on class satisfaction. However, on the other hand, contributions by the teaching assistant showed no relationship to class satisfaction. In conclusion, this paper suggests that even teachers who are less confidence in English communication were still able to receive positive results of class satisfaction by trying to answer students’ questions appropriately, providing opportunities to interact with Japanese students, putting emphasis on communication with students, using understandable English with moderate voice volume, and well-constructed classes.

実践報告, 本稿は、留学生受け入れプログラムの改善や今後新たなプログラムを開発する際に必要な点を明らかにするため、大阪大学と他大学で実施されている超短期受け入れプログラムの比較考察を行った。まず、SGUのタイプAに採択された13校と国際性で評価の高い国際教養大学が実施する18の超短期受け入れプログラムについて、宿舎費込／別の2つに分類し、比較検討を行った。その結果、多種多様なプログラムがあったが、共通点としては、6月～8月開講、2～4週間の初級日本語と専門科目、そして日本文化体験学習を含むプログラムが多く実施されており、これらが現在の日本の大学における超短期受け入れプログラムの主流になっていることが明らかとなった。

Online shopping is growing in the last decade and change consumer buying behavior in retailing industries. These technology-enabled services improve efficiency and provide multiple options for purchasing which may affect consumption behavior and lifestyle. This article aims to explore the impact of online shopping especially on foods and groceries and its impact on household consumption and waste in Bandung city, Indonesia. We applied bivariate probit model to examine the influence of household attributes, perceive evaluation on online system, and habitual on consumption and its impact on probability of inclining consumption, distance to purchase foods and goods and finally on the waste dispose from household. Although empirical study couldn’t capture inclining consumption due to online shopping and it isn’t yet convenience for elderly people, however, we found clear correlation between household consumption and distance to buy foods and groceries; volume of waste and type of waste disposed from home.

For cities to meet the challenge of reaching carbon neutral by 2050, one option is to promotea renovation wave for buildings. A literature review of the initiatives, standards and regulationsfor energy savings and the renewable energy deployment in buildings in the EU, US and Asiashows the complexity of the effort, and the need to integrate multiple policies. A single policy simply cannot achieve the net-zero building levels needed to limit global warming to 1.5degrees Celsius from pre-industrial levels. It requires the efforts of multiple levels ofgovernments and the collaboration of a diverse variety of stakeholders to adopt stringent building standards. Examples in the municipalities of the EU, US Japan and Malaysia show thatretrofits of public buildings serve as experimental grounds to draft such standards, and are seenas demonstration models to guide private building owners with regard to the feasibility andbenefits of combining energy efficiency with the deployment of renewables. Regardless of such initiatives, informational and financial barriers continue to be the mainreasons that affect the motivation of building/homeowners’ energy efficiency decisions,preventing them from choosing meaningful retrofits. The lack of detailed billing data for actualenergy consumption levels of buildings/homes is another barrier for renovation as it reducesthe means to analyse and develop effective strategies based on evidence. The use of smarttechnology, which is expected to introduce a new dimension of renovation by interconnectingbuildings and increasing the energy performance at a district level, will require a new generationof urban planners. The best practices and lessons learnt from the EU’s intense experience in promoting renovationof its buildings over the last 50 years will be meaningful for Japan and the ASEAN region.

本稿では、大阪大学国際教育交流センター主催の留学生との英語メンタリング学習プログラムであるProject HELP! について概観し、これまでに筆者らが行ったアンケート調査結果について記述し、本プログラムの今後の課題について述べる。

The Asian countries have diverse economic profiles, energy consumption patterns, greenhouse emissions, climatic conditions and socio-political landscapes. These dynamics bring into focus that drawing a uniform framework to define the energy transition process for the region is a difficult task. Keeping in view of this reality, this book identifies major themes and regions that would make value addition to the existing literature on energy transition. The framework with which the book has been developed showcases the interplay of four critical influencers— businesses, political economy actors, governments and geopolitical actors—and the impact of the same on policy mechanisms, governance and institutions, politics, markets and technology; elements that have a remarkable influence on the energy transition in the Asian region. The framework also highlights the multiple benefits of energy transition which include shaping climate mitigation initiatives, enhancing energy security, strengthening energy access, and addressing concerns pertaining to energy-water nexus. The geopolitical equations that govern the global economic relations and trade, especially that of the clean energy industry will witness remarkable changes in the years to come. The flow of finances and technology among countries that lead energy transition would also witness a far more different trend than what was evinced until 2019. Manufacturing and industries that have been part of conventional as well as non-conventional energy sector will witness changes. This will also lead to corresponding changes in the patterns of interdependence among countries. The discussions in this book on International Solar Alliance, renewable energy development in India, China and South Korea, and the energy transition initiatives in the Persian Gulf region deserve special attention in this context. Similarly, technology will play a critical role in the energy transition in the years ahead. The collaboration between countries will be one of the major elements that the readers would find interest in. This book presents meaningful insights into the dynamics of energy transition in Asian region, to a wider set of readers in academic, policy making and research domains within Asia and beyond.

This presentation has offered an analysis of climate action of Japanese cities and considered their alignment with the SDGs. Informed by the literature, this presentation identified a range of areas where climate actions in cities could have influence on other development and welfare aspects. The state of such alignment is explored here.

The presentation was made at the International Conference titled Energising the SDGs through appropriate technology and governance held in Leicester between 4-5 July 2019. The paper provides a preliminary analysis of climate action plans in selected Japanese cities and their potential linkages with the SDGs.

Due to its significance for bringing the considerably benefit to the transportation network performance, the several initiatives has been proposed for evaluating and improving the pedestrian facilities. However, such efforts are generally conducted within the framework of walkability, which typically put the attention to the walker perspectives. This paper then proposed the different perspective for evaluating the pedestrian facilities by considering several different perspectives, namely, walker perspective, vehicular user perspective and minimum requirement perspective. As different with the previous researches, the pedestrian facilities is firstly evaluated based on their fulfillment to the minimum requirement of pedestrian movement. Further step is conducted based on the walker perspective for acquiring the pedestrian facilities score performance, which can be used for improving the minimum standard as well as the pedestrian facilities. The microsimulation model is then developed for evaluating such interests by taking into account the vehicular user, which is possibly impacted.

The Urban Climate Change Research Network's Second Assessment Report on Climate Change in Cities (ARC3.2) is the second in a series of global, science-based reports to examine climate risk, adaptation, and mitigation efforts in cities. The book explicitly seeks to explore the implications of changing climatic conditions on critical urban physical and social infrastructure sectors and intersectoral concerns. The primary purpose of ARC3.2 is to inform the development and implementation of effective urban climate change policies, leveraging ongoing and planned investments for populations in cities of developing, emerging, and developed countries. This volume, like its predecessor, will be invaluable for a range of audiences involved with climate change and cities: mayors, city officials and policymakers; urban planners; policymakers charged with developing climate change mitigation and adaptation programs; and a broad spectrum of researchers and advanced students in the environmental sciences.

Background Intractable pruritus in hemodialysis patients can significantly decrease their quality of life and is also associated with poor vital prognosis. Although combined multiple causes of intractable pruritus in these patients have been identified, no existing treatments are proven to be sufficiently effective. We conducted a post-marketing surveillance to follow-up and assess the safety and efficacy of nalfurafine, a selective κ-opioid receptor agonist, for the treatment of intractable pruritus in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Patients and methods Hemodialysis patients with intractable pruritus from institutions in Japan who received oral nalfurafine hydrochloride between January 2010 and December 2013 were enrolled in the surveillance. Surveillance was completed in July 2015. Safety data during 1 year after nalfurafine treatment onset, and efficacy data of nalfurafine evaluating the first 12-week treatment period and the following period until 1 year after the initial dose of nalfurafine (using global assessment of the itch improvement by the physician, Visual Analog Scale, and the Shiratori’s severity scores) were collected and analyzed. Results In total, 3,762 patients were analyzed for safety. Adverse drug reactions were experienced by 402/3,762 (10.69%) patients. The most frequent adverse drug reactions were insomnia (127/3,762 [3.38%] patients), constipation (34 [0.90%]), somnolence (32 [0.85%]), dizziness (23 [0.61%]), nausea (13 [0.35%]), and malaise (9 [0.24%]). No patients developed dependence on nalfurafine. Nalfurafine was effective in 82.50% (2,880/3,491) of patients during the first 12 weeks and in 84.95% (2,167/2,551) on treatment during the subsequent period until 1 year after nalfurafine treatment initiation. Statistically significant decreases were reported in the Visual Analog Scale and the Shiratori’s severity scores (p
