The effect of regulatory mandates and their implementation challenges in the healthcare industry remains largely under explored. While the US healthcare system is highly respected for its breakthrough scientific advances, it has also been critiqued for its operational inefficiency. Hence, from the government's perspective, improving the overall efficiency of its healthcare is a priority. We examine how regulatory requirements imposed for this purpose (specifically related to the adoption of electronic health records and interoperability across systems), have paradoxically created implementation challenges for healthcare service providers and their ensuing effect on hospital outcomes. We develop and test a process type relationship, based on theoretical insights from resource-based view of the firm, dynamic capability and regulatory literature. Results from a longitudinal, multi-source dataset from over 400 hospitals indicate a complex interdependency between regulatory incentives and health outcomes. Thus, we contribute to explicating the role of regulatory incentives and challenges, e-system infrastructure, and interoperability capability on hospital outcomes. Workplace favoritism research has been steady but limited for decades, yet a rigorously validated, comprehensive measure is not available to researchers. Furthermore, there continues to be concern among management scholars as to whether the concept is worthy of being examined as a stand-alone construct. A general consensus among management scholars is that favoritism is similar enough to organizational justice that it cannot provide additional explanatory value in employee emotional, attitudinal, or behavioral outcomes. This study challenges that ideology through the development and validation of a multi-dimensional workplace favoritism scale that can explain noticeably more variance in turnover intention than what organizational justice dimensions (i.e., procedural, distributive, interpersonal, and informational) can account for. Following Hinkin's (1998) suggested approach to scale development and procedures used by Akremi and colleagues (Akremi, Gond, Swaen, Roeck, & Igalens, 2018), a five-phase scale development and confirmation process revealed three favoritism subdimensions including cronyism, nepotism, and a dimension related to an individual's pleasantness and agreeableness. Results indicate that the sub-dimensional favoritism scales are valid and have predictive abilities that go beyond that of which can be accounted for by organizational justice measures. While corruption is a widely studied phenomenon, little is known about the conditions under which it can be controlled in multinational companies (MNCs). This paper probes the deeper structure of corruption, i.e. the financial opportunity to engage in it. More specifically, we examine how the financial benefits of corruption opportunity (BCO) varies with the enactment of various internal and external corporate corruption controls. To avoid biases associated with perceptual measures of corruption, we study real life bribery transactions based on a sample of publicly traded MNCs caught for violations of the United States Foreign Corrupt Practice Act (FCPA). Findings from forty-four host countries reveal that a) regulatory sanctioning in host countries, and bureaucratic controls at a firm level are negatively related to BCO, b) positive social sanctioning is positively related to BCO, and b) vigilance controls help strengthen negative effect of bureaucratic control and positive social sanctioning control on BCO. This study represents a first known attempt to empirically examine the impact of corruption controls on financial benefits of corruption and advances understanding of the multidimensionality of corporate corruption control in MNCs. The growth of computing and high-speed internet has resulted in the development of Intelligent Personal Assistants (IPAs), where the modality of interaction between system and user is totally speech-based. Despite the growing popularity of IPAs, research on factors related to satisfaction and use of these devices is lacking. Using the IS success model for theoretical underpinnings, we posit that quality plays an important mediating role between the characteristics of IPAs and user satisfaction. This research explicitly acknowledges the idiosyncrasies of human interaction with IPAs, and highlight the importance of natural language understanding (NLU) and feedback and antecedents of perceptions of quality. To test our research model, we intend to conduct a survey of current IPA users. We believe this study will provide insight into the factors and mechanisms that influence IPA user satisfaction and point to design choices which may better fulfill customer demands. Influenced by video games, the Virtual Reality (VR) field is transitioning into work and thus now influences the social network service (SNS) and industry as well. The integration of social networking experience into VR environment by Facebook, the leading SNS, market volume of VR glasses are expected to increase from 9.6 million units in 2016 to over 110 million units in 2020. VR is currently being used to transport individuals to collaborative spaces, allowing them to engage in social experiences. The use of voice commands instead of a traditional controller, has increased the demand for the VR glasses. Integration of voice commands in VR Glasses have several advantages including hand-free use, faster input (as people can speak faster than any other traditional input method) and elimination of necessity of extra training to use the controllers. Thus, integration of voice recognition to VR glasses is expected to increase the task performance of the VR user. However, the proper understanding of natural language by a machine is still a challenge and that can outweigh over advantages of integrating voice recognition technology in VR glasses. As we know, connecting to social network such as joining to oculus room using VR glass is similar to finding information from website that is a cognitive task and involves information processing, cognitive learning, and decision making that influence task performance. The purpose of this paper is to describe how the task performance and cognitive load effect on user satisfaction while connecting to an SNS through VR glass using a traditional controller versus using voice commands and also by various subject groups (i.e. native and non-native English speakers) where cognitive load is the key factor of task performance. Recently EEG has become a popular tool in IS research. The human brain releases EEG signals in various frequency bands that have various and distinct roles in human cognitive functions. Among them, Alpha, Beta, Delta and Theta are most widely used for EEG signal that indicates various cognitive functions. In this paper, we will analyze these EEG signals taken from the above mentioned subject groups to measure the cognitive load while they accomplish the given task (connect SNS) using various methods (Voice command vs traditional hand controller). Task performance will be measured as the time taken to accomplish the given task. Subjects will respond to a survey that will measure the satisfaction, stress and self-efficacy. We will design a 2 (voice command and traditional controller) × 2 (native language English and native language not English) between subject factorial design, creating a total of 4 treatments. Statistical analysis will be performed to investigate the relationship among the constructs. Expected contributions of this research are as follows. VR manufacturing companies will gain knowledge about various characteristics related to users, voice recognition features integration and influence of VR application in SNS. Composition models dominate research that relates team personality to team processes and outcomes. In this study, we adopt a compilation perspective to examine the facilitating and inhibiting influence of team level negative affectivity and conscientiousness on a triad of emergent states - psychological safety, social cohesion, and team potency. With regard to team personality, results from a sample of 62 project teams demonstrate that analyses using the compilation model offer important advantages over the more conventional composition approach. We find that positive skew in negative affectivity and conscientiousness is associated with increased levels of psychological safety. In effect, the presence of a fewer members high in either trait appears to benefit the development of psychologically safe team climates. Our findings also highlight the significance of team psychological safety, which was strongly related to the both social cohesion and team potency - emergent states with strong links to team effectiveness. It is widely acknowledged that an occurrence of corruption in any firm is problematic. More importantly, we argue that its negative effects are compounded when a) corruption is present in large firms with global reach and b) corruption ceases to be a single instance but becomes a reoccurring or perpetuating phenomenon over time. Though the magnification of corruption over both time and size of operations creates scale effects that amplify its detrimental consequences, this context remains largely unexamined. Thus, our research question is: What are the factors that contribute to the perpetuation of corruption in large global firms? Drawing on institutional theory we examine the normative pressures that create a vortex of corporate corruption that continues to exist over several years. We analyze an eight-year longitudinal dataset of 469 unique FT Global 500 companies representing 30 primary industries and 33 countries with a total of 3,276 company year observations. Results help disentangle a complex interaction of firm-level and country-level factors that drive corruption and impact performance among top global firms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
