La gestión del turismo cultural contempla el derecho de la sociedad para acceder al conocimiento y a la cultura, incidiendo en la necesidad de su adecuada comunicación para el mejor entendimiento y conservación del patrimonio cultural. Teniendo en cuenta el carácter multidisciplinar e integrador del patrimonio cultural y las iniciativas de divulgación científica a la ciudadanía promovidas a nivel institucional, se plantea considerar en el turismo cultural el conocimiento de los materiales que conforman el patrimonio arquitectónico, generado mediante estudios multidisciplinares y desde una perspectiva científica. Estos materiales presentan un importantísimo valor patrimonial, pues son imagen del patrimonio que configuran y de su recuerdo en nuestra memoria. En este sentido, las cerámicas vidriadas de la Antigua Estación de Metro de Chamberí, Madrid (1919) representan un recurso patrimonial excepcional, pues su estudio permite atender conjuntamente a la información proporcionada por las fuentes documentales, a la experiencia adquirida por ceramistas y a los datos obtenidos mediante el empleo de técnicas analíticas de caracterización. Es indudable el atractivo turístico que presenta la visita de los lugares del pasado, más si cabe cuando el espacio se conserva como era originariamente y mantiene la función para la que fue creado, quedando el visitante completamente acogido por el ambiente de antaño. La visita a la Antigua Estación del Metropolitano de Madrid resulta amable para el visitante y respetuosa con el lugar, ofreciendo al mismo tiempo un turismo cultural que se integra con la identidad local de su entorno., The cultural tourism management takes into account the right of societies to access to the knowledge and culture, as well as the need for their appropriate communication in order to achieve a better understanding and conservation of the cultural heritage. Considering the multidisciplinary and integrating nature of the cultural heritage and the initiatives of scientific dissemination to citizens, to consider in the cultural tourism the knowledge related to the building materials that shape the architectural heritage is proposed. These materials have a very important patrimonial value, since they are the image of such heritage and of its retention in our memory. In this sense, the glazed ceramics of the Former Chamberí Metro Station of Madrid (1919) represent an exceptional heritage and cultural resource. Therefore, the study of glazed ceramics may be tackled through a multidisciplinary approach where the scientific perspective is also involved, as the information provided by the documentary sources, the skills developed by the craftsmen and the data obtained by means of analytical techniques could be jointly addressed. Moreover, to visit the places of past times entails a very significant tourist attraction, even more when its original atmosphere and its pristine function have been preserved. The colour patterns generally found on the façades of architecturally sensitive buildings have an adverse impact on their aesthetics, to the detriment of their identity and potential economic value. A quantitative and qualitative study was conducted of the perception of aesthetic decay in the limestone on a heritage building. The study assessed building aesthetics between two façade cleaning operations, conducted in 1984-1986 and 2006-2008. Based on the calculation of the final or total soiling index, by means of in situ lightness measurement and three architectural design variables, the colour distribution of the façades was quantified in 2006 and a model was developed to monitor façade soiling over time. The proposed model, a tool for planning preventive façade maintenance on architecturally sensitive buildings, advocates for sustainable cleaning operations. Premio “Manuel Fernández de Castro” al mejor artículo publicado en el año 2017 en el Boletín Geológico y Minero por un autor novel, A partir del estudio sobre la procedencia y la calidad de la caliza empleada en la construcción -a principios del siglo XX- de un emblemático inmueble madrileño, se analizan los principales factores que en esta época favorecieron su utilización. Se trata de una piedra tradicionalmente empleada en la región pero apenas conocida en la capital y que por entonces se explotaba en las canteras Cornicabra, ubicadas en el paraje del Valhondo de Morata de Tajuña (Comunidad de Madrid). Por un lado, esta caliza resultaba una piedra económicamente muy ventajosa, debido principalmente a la favorable situación por entonces de las canteras y de las vías de comunicación. Por otro, debido a su origen geológico y posteriores procesos diagenéticos, presenta una muy elevada calidad y durabilidad, resultando un material muy apropiado para configurar elementos portantes especialmente resistentes a la acción del agua y al propio paso del tiempo. Considerando una época en la que la piedra tradicional de la región estaba siendo sustituida por piedras procedentes de otros lugares, el prestigio del que históricamente ha disfrutado la caliza extraída en las canteras de Colmenar de Oreja y el efímero empleo en la capital de la caliza de Morata de Tajuña como piedra de cantería, el carácter tradicional de la caliza objeto de estudio resulta ciertamente excepcional., Based on the study of the limestone used in an emblematic building in Madrid, this analysis explores the factors that favoured the use of this limestone which was scarcely known in the city until the early twentieth century. This local stone was extracted from the Cornicabra quarry at Valhondo, near Morata de Tajuña in the Spanish province of the Comunity of Madrid.The Morata de Tajuña limestone was a more economical option at the beginning of the century, due primarily to the favourable status of the quarries and existing communications with the capital city. Building materials used at the Former Workers Hospital of Maudes, Madrid (Spain) were studied. The study addressed the information both achieved from documental resources and characterization techniques. Documentary work has enabled to know about the architect thought, the ideology of the project or the grounds that conditioned such materials selection; it also permitted to learn about materials provenance and/or its elaboration. Analytical studies provided information about petrographic features of the materials and their composition; limestone provenance was confirmed and new data on material manufacture were provided. Such information, which deserves to be known and disseminated, provides a significant heritage value to materials that shape cultural assets. El patrimonio cultural abarca muy diversos aspectos, todos de alguna manera relacionados entre sí y unidos en sinergia a sus gentes, formando parte de las mismas y configurando su idiosincrasia. Supone una herencia que es parte de nosotros, habla de nuestra historia y hablará de nosotros. El patrimonio cultural representa un claro elemento diferenciador de los pueblos que a lo largo de la historia le han dado forma, así como un importantísimo elemento de unión entre los mismos, siendo esencial su cuidado y preservación. El legado cultural de todos los continentes y todas las culturas es una herencia única e irrepetible, que la historia ha permitido llegase hasta nosotros, y como tal, merece ser conocida y conservada. Los países con situación política y económica ventajosa, deben dedicar parte de sus recursos económicos a la revalorización y conservación de su patrimonio, y facilitar ayudas que permitan la difusión y preservación de patrimonios pertenecientes a otros países más desfavorecidos. Considerando el enorme privilegio que supone poder educar a la población y crear en ella una sensibilidad hacia la cultura heredada, cada país en la medida de sus posibilidades tiene el deber de conocerla, difundirla y abogar por su preservación. Educar en el aprecio y respeto al patrimonio heredado es responsabilidad de todos y supone la mejor garantía para su conservación y transmisión a las generaciones futuras. El objetivo principal de las Rutas Geomonumentales consiste en la difusión del patrimonio arquitectónico desde una perspectiva histórica y científica, posibilitando la interacción pluridisciplinar. Esta novedosa propuesta representa una vía muy adecuada para la transmisión de la información a través de Internet, utilizando un lenguaje sencillo y abundante información gráfica. Air pollution induces the development of black crusts on the surface of built heritage materials. Black layers on the limestone used on an emblematic Madrilenian building dating from the early twentieth century, mainly built up in the 20 years lapsing between two façade cleaning operations, was studied with POM and SEM-EDS. Particulate matter deposited on surfaces in the same period was analyzed with XRD and IC. Climate change in the environs was also studied and façade coloring patterns were compared. Since black crust and settled dust composition, as well as façade soling intensity, were found to be closely related to the surrounding environment, both are proposed as environment and climate change markers. These are considerations, moreover, that must be addressed when designing conservation strategies. Domestic heating systems and vehicle traffic were identified as the two main sources of pollution throughout the period studied in the target area, where the temperature steadily rose and relative humidity declined. The progressive replacement of coal with gas oil in domestic heating boilers and the proliferation of vehicles with diesel engines have mostly determined the evolution of the pollutants emitted.
