Abstract

This paper reports a 3-dimentional (3D) pressure sensor based on surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonators. The SAW resonators were designed and fabricated on 128°Y-X LiNbO3 substrate using the MEMS technology. The pressure sensing structure was 3D-printed using polyactic acid plastic, and two SAW resonators were integrated in the 3D-printed chamber structure for both temperature and pressure sensing. The SAW-based gas pressure sensors demonstrate a sensitivity of 589 ppm/MPa at the pressure range of 100-600 kPa and temperature of 40 °C.

12. Enhanced Self-Powered Broadband Photodetectors Based on 1-D TiO₂/V₂O₅ Core-Cell Heterojunction

Abstract

Self-powered photodetectors (PDs) based on heterostructured nanocomposites have been widely studied but are still being explored for further performance enhancement in bandwidth and photoresponsivity. Herein, we report a self-powered PD operating in ultraviolet and visible (UV-Vis) regions, which was prepared by incorporating of 1-D vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanorods (VNRs) with 1-D TiO2 nanorod arrays (TNRAs) for enhancing the photoelectric performance. A low-cost hydrothermal method was used to prepare the powder of VNRs and freestanding TNRAs on the F-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass substrate, respectively. The single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were incorporated with VNRs to form the SWCNTs@VNRs nanocomposite for enhancing the conductivity of V2O5. The self-powered broadband PDs were assembled as ITO/SWCNTs@VNRs/TNRAs/FTO configuration. Experimental results show that, without external bias, the typical sensitivity of the optimum PD can reach around 4.2, 1.2, and $0.6~\mu $ A/mW $\cdot $ cm $^{-{2}}$ for UV light of 360 nm and visible lights of 460 and 510 nm, respectively. It is suggested that the incorporation of the SWCNTs-modified 1-D VNRs with the 1-D TNRAs enables the formation of V2O5/TiO2 heterojunction network, effectively promoting the transportation and separation of photogenerated charges in the heterostructure and thus enhancing photoresponse performance of PDs.

50. Betavoltaic Enhancement Using Defect-Engineered TiO2Nanotube Arrays through Electrochemical Reduction in Organic Electrolytes

Abstract

Utilizing high-energy beta particles emitted from radioisotopes for long-lifetime betavoltaic cells is a great challenge due to low energy conversion efficiency. Here, we report a betavoltaic cell fabricated using TiO2nanotube arrays (TNTAs) electrochemically reduced in ethylene glycol electrolyte (EGECR-TNTAs) for the enhancement of the betavoltaic effect. The electrochemical reduction of TNTAs using high cathodic bias in organic electrolytes is indeed a facile and effective strategy to induce in situ self-doping of oxygen vacancy (OV) and Ti3+defects. The black EGECR-TNTAs are highly stable with a significantly narrower band gap and higher electrical conductivity as well as UV–vis–NIR light absorption. A 20 mCi of 63Ni betavoltaic cell based on the reduced TNTAs exhibits a maximum ECE of 3.79% with open-circuit voltage of 1.04 V, short-circuit current density of 117.5 nA cm–2, and a maximum power density of 39.2 nW cm–2. The betavoltaic enhancement can be attributed to the enhanced charge carrier transport and separation as well as multiple exciton generation of electron–hole pairs due the generation of OV and Ti3+interstitial bands below the conductive band of TiO2.
