The activated sludge process (ASP) is widely used for wastewater treatment, and the aeration efficiency is crucial to the operation of wastewater treatment plants. Recently, microbubble (MB)- and nanobubble (NB)-aeration has attracted much attention as there is growing evidence that it holds a great promise for upgrading the process efficiency of current ASP under conventional macro-bubble-aeration. However, a comprehensive review to elucidate the potential application of MB- and NB-aeration in ASP is still lacking. Therefore, this review will provide a systematic introduction to MB- and NB-aeration (including the unique properties and generation methods of MBs and NBs), and gain mechanistic insights on how MB- and NB-aeration improve gas-liquid mass transfer. The recent advances in MB- and NB-aeration applications to ASP and the resultant effects are also highlighted and discussed in-depth. The review concludes with a brief consideration of future research interests.

Black-odor water pollution in rural areas, especially swine wastewater, can lead to the deterioration of water quality and thus seriously affect the daily life of people in the area. However, there is a lack of effective treatment measures with simultaneous attention to carbon, nitrogen and sulfur pollution in rural black-odor water bodies. This study evaluated the feasibility of an in-situ pilot-scale constructed wetland (CW) for the synchronous removal of COD, ammonium, and sulfur compounds in the swine wastewater. In this study, the operation strategy of CW sediment pretreated with free nitrous acid (FNA) and Myriophyllum aquaticum plantation was established. Throughout the 114-day operation, the total removal efficiencies of COD and ammonium nitrogen in experimental groups were 81.2 ± 4.2 % and 72.8 ± 1.8 %, respectively, which were significantly higher than CW without any treatment. Removal efficiencies of Sulfur compounds, i.e. sulfide, sulfate, thiosulfate, and sulfite, were 92.3 ± 1.9 % (61.2 % higher than the no-treatment group), 42.1 ± 3.8 %, 97.9 ± 1.7 %, and 42.7 ± 4.5 % respectively. High-throughput sequencing and qPCR revealed that experimental group significantly increased denitrification genes (nirK, nosZ) and sulfur oxidation genes (soxB, fccAB) and enriched the corresponding microbial taxa (Bacillus, Conexibacter and Clostridium sensu stricto). Moreover, metabolic pathways related to nitrogen and sulfur and the degradation of organic matter were up-regulated. These results indicated that partial nitrification in CW planted with M. aquaticum promoted sulfur oxidation denitrification and heterotrophic denitrification. Overall, the in-situ pilot-scale study revealed that the cultivation of M. aquaticum in FNA-treated CW can be a sustainable approach to treat black-odor water bodies.

Constructed wetlands (CWs) have received increasing attentions for their N removal performances, especially regarding NH4+-N. Different influent NH4+-N concentration may influence N removal efficiency in practice, while the effects of different NH4+-N concentrations on microorganisms removing N in CWs are poorly understood. In this study, surface flow CWs planted with Myriophyllum (M). aquaticum were established to investigate the influences of different NH4+-N concentrations on the composition, structure, and interactions of microbial community. Our findings suggested 105 mg/L NH4+-N CWs achieved highest N removal rate, removing 89.30 % NH4+-N and 92.34 % TN from the influent. The results of real-time quantitative polymerase chain reactions (qPCR) indicated abundances of nitrifying genes (nxrA) and denitrifying genes (narG, nirS, nirK, and nosZ) were increased by increasing NH4+-N concentrations, and the strongest effects were observed in narG (8-fold) and nosZ genes (11-fold). Different NH4+-N concentrations was proved to alter composition and structure of microbial communities via high-throughput sequencing, e.g. denitrifiers including Brevendomonas.sp, Dokdonella.sp and Rhodococcus.sp were enriched obviously with increasing NH4+-N concentrations. In addition, network showed interactions among microbial populations and positive interactions were dramatically shifted and enhanced by increasing NH4+-N concentrations.

Increasing the use of nitrogen fertilizers in tea orchards has led to intense nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions. Foliar application of Paenibacillus polymyxa biofertilizer has been proven to be beneficial for organic tea production. In this study, tea yield and quality were significantly improved after application of P. polymyxa biofertilizer compared with the control but were not significantly different from chemical fertilizer treatments. However, the average N2O fluxes in tea fields treated with chemical fertilizers and biofertilizers (225 kg N·ha−1·year−1 for both) were 50.6–973.7 and 0.6–29.1 times higher than those in the control treatment, respectively. Pot experiments conducted to explore the mechanism of N2O reduction induced by P. polymyxa biofertilizer showed that applying P. polymyxa in addition to urea could reduce N2O fluxes by 36.5%–73.1%. Quantitative PCR analysis suggested that a significant increase in the quantity of nirK and nosZ genes was linked to the reduction of N2O, and high-throughput sequencing of nosZ revealed active and potentially efficient denitrifiers in different treatments. Our findings suggest that P. polymyxa biofertilizer is in line with the requirements of modern agriculture, which aims to increase product yield and quality while reducing negative environmental impacts.

Golgi phosphoprotein 73 (GP73) has been regarded as a novel serum biomarker for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in recent years. It has been reported that the upregulation of GP73 may promote the carcinogenesis and metastasis of HCC; however, the mechanisms remain poorly understood. In this study, GP73 correlates positively with matrix metalloproteinase‐2 (MMP‐2) in HCC‐related cells and tissues. Further studies indicate that the knockdown of GP73 blocks MMP‐2 trafficking and secretion, resulting in cell invasion inhibition. Additionally, the knockdown of GP73 induces the accumulation of intracellular MMP‐2, which inhibits the phosphorylation of Src at Y416 and triggers the inhibition of SAPK/JNK and p53‐p21 signalling pathways through a negative feedback loop. Finally, the transactivation of MMP2 was inhibited by the reduction in E2F1. This study reveals that GP73 plays functional roles in the trafficking and equilibrium of epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT)‐related secretory proteins and that GP73 serves as a new potential target for combating the metastasis of HCC.

The fate and removal of ciprofloxacin, a class of fluoroquinolone antibiotic, during sulfur-mediated biological wastewater treatment has been recently well documented. However, little is known regarding the genetic response of microorganisms to ciprofloxacin. Here, a lab-scale anaerobic sulfate-reducing bioreactor was continuously operated over a long term for ciprofloxacin-contaminated wastewater treatment to investigate the response of the microorganisms to ciprofloxacin by adopting a metagenomics approach. It was found that total organic carbon (TOC) removal and sulfate reduction were promoted by approximately 10% under ciprofloxacin stress, along with the enrichment of functional genera (e.g., Desulfobacter, Geobacter) involved in carbon and sulfur metabolism. The metagenomic analytical results demonstrated that ciprofloxacin triggered the microbial SOS response, as demonstrated by the up-regulation of the multidrug efflux pump genes (8-125-fold higher than that of the control) and ciprofloxacin-degrading genes (4-33-fold higher than that of the control). Moreover, the contents of ATP, NADH, and cytochrome C, as well as related functional genes (including genes involved in energy generation, electron transport, carbon metabolism, and sulfur metabolism) were markedly increased under ciprofloxacin stress. This demonstrated that the carbon and sulfur metabolisms were enhanced for energy (ATP) generation and electron transport in response to ciprofloxacin-induced stress. Interestingly, the microbes tended to cooperate while being subjected exposure to exogenous ciprofloxacin according to the reconstructed metabolic network using the NetSeed model. Particularly, the species with higher complementarity indices played more pivotal roles in strengthening microbial metabolism and the SOS response under long-term ciprofloxacin stress. This study characterized the response mechanisms of microorganisms to ciprofloxacin at the genetic level in sulfur-mediated biological wastewater treatment. These new understandings will contribute the scientific basis for improving and optimizing the sulfur-mediated bioprocess for antibiotics-laden wastewater treatment.

Microplastics are ubiquitous in estuaries, coasts, sewage and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), which could arouse unexpected effects on critical microbial processes in wastewater treatment. In this study, polyethylene terephthalate microplastics (PET-MPs) were selected to investigate the mechanism of its influence on the performance of sulfur-mediated biological process from the perspective of microbial metabolic activity, electron transfer capacity and microbial community. The results indicated that the exposure of 50 particles/L PET-MPs improved the chemical oxygen demand (COD) and sulfate removal efficiencies by 6.6 ± 0.5% and 4.5 ± 0.3%, respectively, due to the stimulation of microbial metabolic activity and the enrichment of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) species, such as Desulfobacter. In addition, we found that the PET-MPs promoted Cytochrome C (Cyt C) production and improved the direct electron transfer (DET) capacity mediated by Cyt C. The long-term presence of PET-MPs stimulated the secretion of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS), especially the proteins and humic substances, which have been verified to be electroactive polymers to act as electron shuttles to promote the interspecies electron transfer pathway in sulfur-mediated biological process. Meanwhile, the transformation products (bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET) and Mono (2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalic acid (MHET) of PET-MPs were detected in sulfur-mediated biological process. These findings indicate that the sulfur-mediated biological process has good adaptability to the toxicity of PET-MPs, which strengthens a deeper understanding of the dual function of microplastics in WWTPs.

The stress responses of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) sludge to polyethylene (PE) microplastic exposure were revealed for the first time. In this study, a lab-scale sulfate-reducing up-flow sludge bed reactor was continuously operated with different concentrations of PE microplastics in the feed (20, 100, and 500 microplastic particles (MPs)/L). Exposure to low levels of PE microplastics (i.e., 20 MPs/L) had a limited effect on SRB consortia, whereas higher levels of PE microplastics imposed apparent physiological stresses on SRB consortia. Despite this, the overall reactor performance, i.e., chemical oxygen demand removal and sulfate conversion, was less affected by prolonged exposure to PE microplastics. Moreover, as the concentration of PE microplastics increased, the SRB consortia promoted the production of extracellular polymeric substances to a greater extent, especially the secretion of proteins. As a result, protective effects against the cytotoxicity of PE microplastics were provided. Batch experiments further demonstrated that leaching additives from PE microplastics (including acetyl tri-n‑butyl citrate and bisphenol A, concentrations up to 5 μg/g sludge) exerted only a minor effect on the activity of SRB consortia. Additionally, microbial community analysis revealed active and potentially efficient sulfate reducers at different operational stages. Our results provide insight into the stress responses of SRB sludge under PE microplastic exposure and suggested that SRB consortia can gradually adapt to and resist high levels of PE microplastics. These findings may promote a better understanding of the stable operation of SRB sludge systems under specific environmental stimuli for practical applications.

Despite of low operation costs and convenient maintenance, the application of natural systems for swine wastewater treatment has been limited by large construction area and unsatisfactory effluent quality. Introducing ammonium high uptake aquatic plants and shifting nitrogen removal pathway from nitrate to nitrite in constructed wetlands (CWs) has been regarded as promising approach to promote their performances. This study aimed to establish nitrite pathway and enhance N removal via free nitrous acid (FNA)-sediment treatment and Myriophyllum aquaticum vegetation in the CWs treating anaerobically digested swine wastewater. Nitrite pathway was successfully and stably achieved in the M. aquaticum CW with FNA-treated sediment. The overall removal efficiencies of ammonium nitrogen and total nitrogen were 42.3 ± 10.2% and 37.7 ± 9.3% in the planted CWs with FNA-treated sediment, which were 76.3% and 65.4% higher than those in the conventional oxidation pond system, respectively. Microbial community analysis (qPCR and metagenomics) suggested that the nitrite pathway established through FNA-sediment treatment was based on the inactivation of nitrite oxidizing bacteria (lower nxrA gene abundance) and the reduction of relative abundances of NOB (especially Nitrobacter and Nitrospira). During the denitrification processes, the integration of M. aquaticum vegetation with FNA-sediment treatment can lower the nitrate reduction by decreasing narG gene abundances and decreasing the relative abundances of napA affiliated bacteria (especially Bradyrhizobium), while strengthening reduction of nitrite and nitrous oxide by increasing nirK and nosZ gene abundances and enriching the corresponding affiliated microbial taxa, Mycobacterium and Bacillus, respectively. Our findings suggest that applying FNA-based technology in CW systems is technically and economically feasible, which holds promise for upgrading current CW systems treating swine wastewater to meet future water quality requirements. Treating activated sludge with free nitrous acid (FNA) to selectively eliminate nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB) and retain ammonium-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) is increasingly regarded as a promising technology for achieving partial nitrification. This study provided a comprehensive assessment of this technology based on optimal FNA treatment conditions, functional microbial community response, and resistibility of established partial nitrification to high dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration and low temperature. An FNA concentration of 1.2 mg HNO2-N per L and an exposure time of 18 hours were found to be the most effective conditions to simultaneously inactivate NOB completely and maintain an AOB activity of 56.76%. Under these conditions, no damaging side effects on the functional microbial community were observed except for the NOB groups being substantially reduced. The results of inoculating two 10 L SBRs with FNA-treated sludge and operating them under different DO concentrations and temperatures showed that stable partial nitrification could be maintained at a DO concentration as high as 3.0 mg L−1 and temperature as low as 5 °C. However, vigorous multiplication of NOB, especially Nitrobacter, caused destruction of the partial nitrification after long-term operation under a DO concentration of 5.0 mg L−1. Although stable partial nitrification was not destroyed by low temperature, the ammonia oxidation rate was impaired.

Urea is a widespread organic pollutant, which can be a nitrogen source, playing different roles in the growth of submerged macrophytes depending on concentrations, while high cadmium (Cd) concentrations are often toxic to macrophytes. In order to evaluate the combined effect of urea and Cd on a submerged macrophyte, Cabomba caroliniana, the morphological and physiological responses of C. caroliniana in the presence of urea and Cd were studied. The results showed that high concentrations of urea (400mgL-1) and Cd (500µmolL-1) had negative effects on C. caroliniana. There were strong visible symptoms of toxicity after 4 days of exposure under Cd-alone, 400mgL-1 urea, and Cd+400mgL-1 urea treatments. In addition, 400mgL-1 urea and Cd had adverse effects on C. caroliniana's pigment system. Significant losses in chlorophyll fluorescence and photosynthetic rates, as well as Rubisco activity were also observed under Cd-alone, 400mgL-1 urea, and Cd+400mgL-1 urea treatments. 400mgL-1 urea markedly enhanced Cd toxicity in C. caroliniana, reflected by a sharp decrease in photosynthetic activity and more visible toxicity symptoms. The results of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) pointed to extreme oxidative stress in C. caroliniana induced under Cd or 400mgL-1 urea exposure. Exogenous ascorbate (AsA) protected C. caroliniana from adverse damage in 400mgL-1 urea, which further corroborated the oxidative stress claim under 400mgL-1 urea. However, results also demonstrated that lower urea concentration (10mgL-1) alleviated Cd-induced phytotoxicity by stimulating chlorophyll synthesis and photosynthetic activity, as well as activating the activity of catalase (CAT) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST), which may explain the alleviating effect of urea on C. caroliniana under Cd stress.

Massively input and accumulated ammonium is one of the main causes of eutrophication in aquatic ecosystems, which severely deteriorates water quality. Previous studies showed that one of the commonly used macrophytes, Myriophyllum aquaticum, was capable of not only withstanding ammonium of high concentration, but also efficiently assimilating extracellular ammonium to constitutive amino acids and proteins. However, the genetic mechanism regulating such efficient nitrogen metabolism in M. aquaticum is still poorly understood. Therefore, RNA-based analysis was performed in this study to understand the ammonium regulatory mechanism in M. aquaticum in response to various concentrations of ammonium. A total of 7721 genes were differentially expressed, of which those related to nitrogen-transport, assimilation, and remobilization were highly-regulated in response to various concentrations of ammonium. We have also identified transcription factors and protein kinases that were rapidly induced in response to ammonium, which suggests their involvement in ammonium-mediated signalling. Meanwhile, secondary metabolism including phenolics and anthocyanins biosynthesis was also activated in response to various concentrations of ammonium, especially at high ammonium concentrations. These results proposed a complex physiological and genetic regulation network related to nitrogen, carbohydrate, transcription factors, and secondary metabolism for nitrogen use efficiency in M. aquaticum.

The incomplete denitrification due to insufficient carbon resource in the wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) resulted in low nitrogen removal efficiency, which has become a widespread problem in China and all around the world. Reducing the requirement of carbon source by manipulating the nitrogen removal pathway from conventional nitrification-denitrification to partial nitrification-denitrification is considered as an efficient solution. In this article, the feasibility of combining free nitrous acid (FNA) sludge treatment and DO control to achieve partial nitrification-denitrification in a continuous flow system (aerobic-anoxic-oxic process) using real sewage was assessed. The nitrite pathway was rapidly established in the experimental reactor within 23 days by simultaneously lowering DO concentration in aerobic zone to 0.5 mg/L and treating 30% of the activated sludge per day from the reactor in the FNA sludge treatment unit with FNA concentration of 1.2 mg N/L and exposure time of 18 h. The nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) were efficiently washed out and the partial nitrification process could maintain stable in the experimental reactor even after cease of FNA treatment and increase of DO concentrations in the main stream to 1.5 mg/L, with an average nitrite accumulation rate of above 78%. In contrast, the nitrite accumulation rate was just around 58% during low DO concentrations phase and declined quickly to below 1% after the DO concentrations were increased to 1.5 mg/L in the control reactor which only utilized single strategy of DO control to achieve nitrite pathway. Moreover, a better sludge settleability and nitrogen removal performance could also be realized in the experimental reactor. The results of nitrifying bacteria activities and quantities detection demonstrated that although NOB activities in both reactors were effectively inhibited, a certain amount of NOB (6.26 × 106 copies/g MLSS) were remained in the control reactor and multiplied rapidly as the DO concentration increased, which might break down the partial nitrification. Furthermore, the quantity results of nitrogen cycling related functional genes showed that the increment of the ratio of nitrate reduced bacteria to total bacteria was 0.35% larger than that of nitric oxide bacteria in the control reactor, while those two ratios increased similarly by 1.11% and 1.12% in the experimental reactor, respectively, which might be one potential cause of reduction in N2O emission of nitrite pathway achieved by FNA-based technologies.

Golgi phosphoprotein 73 (GP73), encoded by GOLM1, is a highly expressed factor in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells and has been regarded for several years as a remarkable serum biomarker for the diagnosis of HCC. Recently, it was found that upregulation of GP73 promotes cancer metastasis, but the mechanism is complex, and it is even unclear how the gene is transactivated in HCC cells. In this study, it was discovered that c-Myc transactivated GP73 in a mildly hypoxic microenvironment and that the activation of c-Myc upregulated the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7). Moreover, it is shown that GP73 interacted with intracellular MMP-7 in the region of the cytoplasmic domain and facilitated the trafficking and secretion of MMP-7, resulting in cell metastasis. This study indicates that GP73 is transactivated by c-Myc and serves as a transporter in the trafficking of intracellular MMP-7 in HCC cells. These findings suggest that GP73 is a potential target for combating metastatic HCC.

Plants easily experience ammonia (NH4+) toxicity, especially aquatic plants. However, a unique wetland plant species, Myriophyllum aquaticum, can survive in livestock wastewater with more than 26 mM NH4+. In this study, the mechanisms of the M. aquaticum response to NH4+ toxicity were analysed with RNA-seq. Preliminary analysis of enzyme activities indicated that key enzymes involved in nitrogen metabolism were activated to assimilate toxic NH4+ into amino acids and proteins. In response to photosystem damage, M. aquaticum seemed to remobilize starch and cellulose for greater carbon and energy supplies to resist NH4+ toxicity. Antioxidative enzyme activity and the secondary metabolite content were significantly elevated for reactive oxygen species removal. Transcriptomic analyses also revealed that genes involved in diverse functions (e.g., nitrogen, carbon and secondary metabolisms) were highly responsive to NH4+ stress. These results suggested that a complex physiological and genetic regulatory network in M. aquaticum contributes to its NH4+ tolerance.

Carrier aggregation is a key feature of the 3GPP LTE-Advanced cellular network standard that combines multiple channels to support higher data rates and improve the utilization of fragmented spectrum holdings. This work presents a cellular transmitter capable of transmitting a maximum of four channels simultaneously, two contiguous channels in two bands, with an aggregate bandwidth of up to 80 MHz, supporting a 200 Mbps uplink rate. The transmitter has 8 RF output ports covering the cellular transmit bands within the 572–2025 MHz frequency range. It can support LTE-Advanced Release 12 Cat7, $\text{HSPA} + \text{Release} 11$ , TDSCDMA Release 9, and GSM/EDGE Release 9. The 40 nm CMOS transmitter consumes 22 mA and 27 mA in 3G and LTE modes (at 0 dBm antenna power), respectively, including the PLL, DCXO, and biasing for a single channel.

Anaerobic digestion is widely used in starch wastewater pre-treatment and can remove the COD effectively, however, the effluents are nutritious and often need supplemental aerobic treatments to remove nutrients prior to discharge. The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using the liquid digestate of starch wastewater (LDSW) as a fertilizer. This pot experiment was conducted with Ipomoea aquatica Forsk in a greenhouse with six treatment groups. The crop growth was significantly promoted, while the accumulation of soil nitrate was not influenced after LDSW addition, compared to the control. In addition, at the same nitrogen input, the yield of high-LDSW treatment was 65.2%, 92.3% and 69.2% higher than those of chemical fertilizer treatment during the three growth periods. Furthermore, average N2O emission with high-LDSW addition was 15.8 g N/(ha.d), accounting for 15.0% of which under high chemical fertilizer treatment, due to the significantly enhanced denitrification genes (nirK, nirS and nosZ) abundance. Besides, the changes of soil N2O-reducing bacteria were performed by high-throughput sequencing of nosZ. Our findings suggested that LDSW had many opportunities for sustainable agriculture to guarantee high yields while reducing negative environmental impacts.

Understanding the spatial and temporal characterization of soil properties, along with soil management practices, helps in analyzing soil properties changes and timely adjusting management patterns. Moreover, soil fertility evaluation within farmland is urgently needed for understanding soil fertility level and avoiding soil degradation. This study addressed the spatial and temporal changes of both soil properties and soil fertility, and their causes in a large grain-production area of China's subtropical plain, which has been used as the national commodity grain base for 35 years. In 2007 and 2017, 827 and 733 soil samples were collected across the area, respectively. Soil pH, organic matter (OM), available nitrogen (AN), available phosphorus (AP) and available potassium (AK) were measured. The changes of soil properties were analyzed with the descriptive statistics methods and geostatistical methods, while the soil integrated fertility index (IFI) was calculated by the integrated fertility index method combined with the minimum data set method. In general, 2017 had a lower variability than 2007 for all properties except AP, and pH had a lower variability than other indicators. Differences of all indexes among 6 cropping systems and 2 crop years were significant, and oilseed rape-soybean cropping system performed better than other cropping systems in most indexes. Moreover, in 2007 there was a stronger spatial dependence than in 2017, and AP and OM had a stronger spatial dependence than other indicators. Mapping indicated that a more patchy distribution of all indicators was found in 2007 than in 2017. In addition, OM and AK in soil decreased substantially, and AN decreased slightly, but AP and pH increased. By principal component analysis and correlation analysis selected OM, AP and AK as soil IFI evaluation indexes, and their weights were determined. The IFI results showed that soil fertility declined in all areas, while the double rotation systems had higher soil fertility levels than the continuous single cropping systems. These results confirm that long-term scale planting can reduce spatial variability and dependence of properties and homogenize soil properties. Our findings demonstrated that the changes of cropping systems, the differences of fertilization and the reduction of acid rain were the three important reasons for the changes of soil properties and soil fertility in Jianli county in recent years. In this study area, effective measures should be taken to increase OM, AP and AK contents in soil.

With the increasing use of chemical fertilizers, negative environmental impacts have greatly increased as a result from agricultural fields. The fungus Trichoderma viride used as a biofertilizer can efficiently reduce nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from subtropical tea fields in southern China. In this paper, it was further found that T. viride biofertilizer could alleviate nitrogen (N) leaching in tea fields. Gross N leaching was 1.51 kg ha−1 year−1 with no external fertilizer input, but when 225 kg N ha−1 year−1was applied, it increased to 12.38 kg ha−1 year−1 using T. viride biofertilizer but 53.46 kg ha−1 year−1 using urea. Stepwise linear regression analysis identified the factors responsible for N leaching to be soil nitrate concentration and soil interflow, simulated here using the water balance simulation model (WaSiM-ETH). Finally, mass-scale production of T. viride biofertilizer from waste reutilization using sweet potato starch wastewater and rice straw was found to be cost-effective and feasible. These procedures could be considered a best management practice to reduce N leaching from tea fields in subtropical areas of central China and to reduce pollution from other agricultural waste products.

A new LC-tank VCO to minimize frequency drift due to temperature variations for cellular applications is presented. By employing the feed-forward VCO gain multiplication technique, frequency drift is reduced by 83% without resorting to conventional temperature dependent biases and circuits. Additionally, the compensation circuit retains the original VCO behavior with no degradation in performance. A fractional-N PLL fabricated in 40 nm CMOS shows that the VCO draws 9 mA and the temperature compensation circuit draws 200 µA. Measurements show that the VCO has a tuning range of 46% (from 2890 MHz to 4560 MHz) and a phase noise of −102 dBc/Hz at 200 kHz offset centered at 3960 MHz at the PLL output before the divide-by-two circuit for 3G/LTE Band I.

This work presents a cellular transceiver capable of transmitting two simultaneous channels with an aggregate bandwidth of up to 40 MHz, supporting a 100 Mbps uplink rate. The transmitter has 8 RF output ports covering the cellular transmit bands within the 572–2100 MHz frequency range. It can support TX LTE-advanced Rel-12 Cat7, HSPA+ Rel-11, TDSCDMA Rel-9, and GSM/EDGE Rel-9. The 40 nm CMOS transmitter consumes 22 mA and 27 mA in 3G and LTE modes (at 0 dBm antenna power), respectively, including the PLL, DCXO and biasing for a single channel.
