Abstract

Occasionally, it is assumed that wood can be fed into an endless usage cascade. This assumption is investigated based on data from new and used chipboards, as well as waste wood of category AI–AIII. The results show, based on 468 data sets, that pollutant concentrations in waste wood vary over a wide range. Depending on the sample group, 46 % to 69 % of the samples examined would not be suitable for material use according to the applicable Waste Wood Ordinance. It must be assumed that waste wood already contains pollutants in relevant concentrations after a single use and can therefore only be fed into the material cycle a second time after the results of an analytical examination are available. Abstract

Biomasse ist im deutschen Wärmemarkt der mit Abstand wichtigste erneuerbare Energieträger. Im Gegensatz zu den fossile Energieträgern ist Holz CO2-neutral. Bei dem Verbrennungsprozess entstehen unterschiedliche Schadstoffe: Feinstaub, NOx, CO und polyzyklische aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe (PAK). Insbesondere Feinstaub wird kontrovers diskutiert, ohne Filtertechnologien sind heutige und zukünftige Grenzwerte schwer einzuhalten Für Kleinfeuerungsanlagen existiert eine Marktlücke hinsichtlich der Abgasreinigung. In diesem Projekt soll ein kostengünstiger Staubabscheider entwickelt werden. Dabei werden zwei Filterregenerationsmethoden - die Jet-Pulse-Methode und eine neuartige Methode - untersucht

Anschließend dient ein deutscher Energiekonzern als Fallbeispiel für den konzeptionellen Einsatz von KI. Es werden theoretische Methoden beschrieben und angewendet, mithilfe welcher der Einsatz von KI im Unternehmen sinnvoll konzeptioniert werden kann.

23. Data-driven applications to foster absorptive capacity: A literature-based conceptualization

Abstract

The relevance of data-driven applications for leveraging knowledge embedded in data is growing. Thereby, an organization's capability to create, disseminate, and exploit knowledge (i.e., absorptive capacity) is a decisive factor in gaining competitive advantages. In this paper, we address the lack of guidance on the development and application of data-driven applications fostering an organization's absorptive capacity. Based on a structured literature review, we derive seven data-driven application capabilities and match them with an established conceptualization of absorptive capacity. While previous literature did not allow for a specific analysis, our functional representation concretely demonstrates how data-driven applications composed of separate capabilities can foster absorptive capacity in manifold ways. This paper contributes to the literature by providing a structured literature review on the impact of IT on absorptive capacity as well as introducing theoretically-based and modularized data-driven application capabilities.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) receives prominent attention within the innovation context. It is the most promising technological invention in information technology. Nevertheless, Innovation and Technology Management (ITM) so far could not structure the AI field, which offers a disruptive innovative potential. Thus, this paper reviews and analyzes the ITM literature and explains the underlying structure of AI. The findings present two main streams of AI literature and, furthermore, explain how to categorize AI use cases. With our results, we assist ITM in explaining and adopting AI to business, which is a huge challenge for companies.

Abstract

Pollutants from combustion in wood‐burning stoves are influenced by many factors, including the exhaust gas system. This is responsible for the air supply due to the draught generated. Contrary to results reported in literature the experiments in this study show no effect on temperature related to increasing air supply and a total dust decreasing at higher draughts. The results also show no significant impact of the draught on gaseous emissions (CO/OGC/NOx). The most significant loss was determined at thermal efficiency, which lost up to 13 % absolute with increasing draught. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The water content is an essential parameter for assessing the quality of solid biofuels. In terms of economic, technical and environmental aspects a continuous determination of the solid fuel water content is sought. This article investigates the use of microwave technology for the continuous measurement of fuel water content. For this purpose, a microwave sensor was evaluated with five different types of wood chips (forest residues, beech, pine, and ash). The results of the online measurements showed a strong correlation with the reference method r < 0.9 for most materials. 36. Mobility of Elements in Ashes from a Wood-Fired Heat and Power Plant with a Grate-Fired Furnace

Abstract

The established practice of wood ash disposal in landfills removes valuable elements, such as metals and plant nutrients, from the utilization cycle. In order to use the residual material wood ash as a secondary raw material and to conserve important natural resources (landfill space, mineral, and metallic raw materials), a treatment process must be developed. As a basis for such a process, fundamental knowledge of element solubility is required. Therefore, a sequential extraction process describing the mobility of the ash-forming elements was carried out for three ash fractions from a wood-fired heat and power plant. This work describes the extraction of 24 elements from ash by four sequentially applied extractants. As an aqueous solvent, bidest. water was used, acetic acid was used as the acidic solvent, hydroxylamine hydrochloride was used as the reducing solvent, and ammonium acetate with hydrogen peroxide was used as the oxidizing solvent. Element concentrations in the individual extractants were determined by ICP–OES. We found that the extraction is influenced by the ash fraction, the particle size, and the element-specific behavior during ash formation. Extractability is higher from filter and cyclone ash fractions compared to grate ash as well as from smaller particle size fractions within grate ash compared to coarse grate ash particles. The majority of the metals were acid-soluble. In parameter studies, we found that extractability can be increased by using stronger solvents, grinding the ash, and a longer extraction time. The results provide information on (I) the environmental mobility of the ash-forming elements and (II) suitable solvents and process parameters for the processing of ashes, with the aim of a consistent recycling of valuable substances and nutrients.
