Abstract The study aimed to achieve the following objectives: (1) to perform the fusion of thermal and visible tongue images with various fusion rules of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) to classify diabetes and normal subjects; (2) to obtain the statistical features in the required region of interest from the tongue image before and after fusion; (3) to distinguish the healthy and diabetes using fused tongue images based on deep and machine learning algorithms. The study participants comprised of 80 normal subjects and age- and sex-matched 80 diabetes patients. The biochemical tests such as fasting glucose, postprandial, Hba1c are taken for all the participants. The visible and thermal tongue images are acquired using digital single lens reference camera and thermal infrared cameras, respectively. The digital and thermal tongue images are fused based on the wavelet transform method. Then Gray level co-occurrence matrix features are extracted individually from the visible, thermal, and fused tongue images. The machine learning classifiers and deep learning networks such as VGG16 and ResNet50 was used to classify the normal and diabetes mellitus. Image quality metrics are implemented to compare the classifiers’ performance before and after fusion. Support vector machine outperformed the machine learning classifiers, well after fusion with an accuracy of 88.12% compared to before the fusion process (Thermal-84.37%; Visible-63.1%). VGG16 produced the classification accuracy of 94.37% after fusion and attained 90.62% and 85% before fusion of individual thermal and visible tongue images, respectively. Therefore, this study results indicates that fused tongue images might be used as a non-contact elemental tool for pre-screening type II diabetes mellitus.

In-vehicle communication has been optimized day to day to keep updated of the technologies. Control area network (CAN) is used as a standard communication method because of its efficient and reliable connection. However, CAN is prone to several network level attacks because of its lack in security mechanisms. Various methods have been introduced to incorporate this in CAN. We proposed an unsupervised method of intrusion detection for in-vehicle communication networks by combining the optimal feature extracting ability of autoencoders and more precise clustering using fuzzy C-means (FCM). The proposed method is light weight and requires less computation time. We performed an extensive experiment and achieved an accuracy of 75.51 % with the ML350 in-vehicle intrusion dataset. By experimental result, the proposed method also works better for other intrusion detection problems like wireless intrusion detection datasets such as WNS-DS with accuracy of 84.05 % and network intrusion detection datasets such as KDDCup with accuracy 60.63 % , UNSW_NB15 with accuracy 73.62 % and Information Security Center of Excellence (ISCX) with accuracy 74.83 %. Overall, the proposed method outperforms the existing methods and avoids labeled datasets when training an in-vehicle intrusion detection model. The results of the experiment of our proposed method performed on various intrusion detection datasets indicate that the proposed approach is generalized and robust in detecting intrusions and can be effectively deployed in real time to monitor CAN traffic in vehicles and proactively alert during attacks.

Malware attacks have escalated significantly with an increase in the number of internet users and connected devices. With the increasingly different types of malware released by hackers, designing new and competitive techniques to detect advanced malware is essential. In the proposed research, we have developed a multi-level feature extraction technique using deep learning architectures and a classification model to classify malware families. The essential features from the malware images are extracted using the Gated Recurrent Unit in the first step, which are further fed to a Convolutional Neural Network model for extracting the final feature vector. The multi-level feature selection is followed by classification into various malware families using Cost-sensitive Boot Strapped Weighted Random Forest (CSBW-RF). The proposed approach gave promising results of 99.58 % accuracy in distinguishing the 25 different malware families on the Mallmg dataset. This hybrid model gave significantly better performance scores for classifying visually similar malware families. The generalizability of the proposed model is benchmarked with the popular Microsoft Big 2015 dataset and has achieved comparatively higher performance scores than many existing models. This benchmarking demonstrates the robustness and scalability of our approach. The use of cost-sensitive learning and bootstrapping techniques also contributed to the model’s ability to generalize well to new and unseen data. These enhancements ensure that our model can be effectively applied in diverse real-world scenarios, maintaining high performance across different environments and malware types. This research can contribute to detecting malware attacks and can be integrated in threat monitoring systems. The successful application of this hybrid model indicates its potential for deployment in real-world cybersecurity environments, providing a strong defense against evolving malware threats.

With the invention of Internet-enabled devices, cloud and blockchain-based technologies, an online voting system can smoothly carry out election processes. During pandemic situations, citizens tend to develop panic about mass gatherings, which may influence the decrease in the number of votes. This urges a reliable, flexible, transparent, secure, and cost-effective voting system. The proposed online voting system using cloud-based hybrid blockchain technology eradicates the flaws that persist in the existing voting system, and it is carried out in three phases: the registration phase, vote casting phase and vote counting phase. A timestamp-based authentication protocol with digital signature validates voters and candidates during the registration and vote casting phases. Using smart contracts, third-party interventions are eliminated, and the transactions are secured in the blockchain network. Finally, to provide accurate voting results, the practical Byzantine fault tolerance (PBFT) consensus mechanism is adopted to ensure that the vote has not been modified or corrupted. Hence, the overall performance of the proposed system is significantly better than that of the existing system. Further performance was analyzed based on authentication delay, vote alteration, response time, and latency.

The exponential growth in communication networks, data technology, advanced libraries, and mainly World Wide Web services has played a pivotal role in facilitating the retrieval of various types of information as needed. However, this progress has also led to security concerns related to the transmission of confidential data. Nevertheless, safeguarding these data during communication through insecure channels is crucial for obvious reasons. The emergence of steganography offers a robust approach to concealing confidential information, such as images, audio tracks, text files, and video files, in suitable media carriers. A novel technique is envisioned based on back-propagation learning. According to the proposed method, a hybrid fuzzy neural network (HFNN) is applied to the output obtained from the least significant bit substitution of secret data using pixel value differences and exploiting the modification direction. Through simulation and test results, it has been observed that the proposed methodology achieves secure steganography and superior visual quality. During the experiments, we observed that for the secret image of the cameraman, the PSNR & MSE values of the proposed technique are 61.963895 and 0.041361, respectively.

Audiovisual speech recognition is an emerging research topic. Lipreading is the recognition of what someone is saying using visual information, primarily lip movements. In this study, we created a custom dataset for Indian English linguistics and categorized it into three main categories: (1) audio recognition, (2) visual feature extraction, and (3) combined audio and visual recognition. Audio features were extracted using the mel-frequency cepstral coefficient, and classification was performed using a one-dimension convolutional neural network. Visual feature extraction uses Dlib and then classifies visual speech using a long short-term memory type of recurrent neural networks. Finally, integration was performed using a deep convolutional network. The audio speech of Indian English was successfully recognized with accuracies of 93.67% and 91.53%, respectively, using testing data from 200 epochs. The training accuracy for visual speech recognition using the Indian English dataset was 77.48% and the test accuracy was 76.19% using 60 epochs. After integration, the accuracies of audiovisual speech recognition using the Indian English dataset for training and testing were 94.67% and 91.75%, respectively.

A large number of medical images are generated for diagnostic purposes, disease monitoring, research and education, quality control in health services, and so on. The secure transmission and storage of them demand a significant effort. Most of the available encryption schemes are designed for non-medical images, whereas medical images need a higher level of security and robust authentication. Additionally, in certain cases, only a specific part of the image, which may be separated into the region of interest and the region of background, medical images can be divided into these two regions. A region-based medical image encryption using a 2D logistic sine map (2DLSM) and an advanced zig zag transform is used to secure medical images. First, the Region of Interest (ROI) is extracted from the original medical image using basic morphological techniques, including edge detection, dilation, and erosion. Secondly, the ROI is encrypted using a complex zigzag transform and a 2D logistic sine map (2DLSM). Advanced zigzag transform that crosses in both directions while beginning at random points to jumble the image. This new zigzag transform method is more complex than existing zigzag transform techniques because the number of sequence types is equal to the number of pixels in the plaintext image. The confused image is diffused using a random sequence created using the 2D logistic sine map approach after numerous iterations of an advanced zigzag transformation. In order to save time and computational resources, the background region pixels are eliminated during encryption. Experiments and security analyses show that the suggested approach is strong in defending against diverse assaults and can effectively secure ROI of different types and sizes of medical photos.

Visual speech recognition (VSR) is a method of reading speech by noticing the lip actions of the narrators. Visual speech significantly depends on the visual features derived from the image sequences. Visual speech recognition is a stimulating process that poses various challenging tasks to human machine-based procedures. VSR methods clarify the tasks by using machine learning. Visual speech helps people who are hearing impaired, laryngeal patients, and are in a noisy environment. In this research, authors developed our dataset for the Kannada Language. The dataset contained five words, which are Avanu, Bagge, Bari, Guruthu, Helida, and these words are randomly chosen. The average duration of each video is 1 s to 1.2 s. The machine learning method is used for feature extraction and classification. Here, authors applied VGG16 Convolution Neural Network for our custom dataset, and relu activation function is used to get an accuracy of 91.90% and the recommended system confirms the effectiveness of the system. The proposed output is compared with HCNN, ResNet-LSTM, Bi-LSTM, and GLCM-ANN, and evidenced the effectiveness of the recommended system.

Aim: The process of biomarker discovery is being accelerated with the application of artificial intelligence (AI), including machine learning. Biomarkers of diseases are useful because they are indicators of pathogenesis or measures of responses to therapeutic treatments, and therefore, play a key role in new drug development. Proteins are among the candidates for biomarkers of rectal cancer, which need to be explored using state-of-the-art AI to be utilized for prediction, prognosis, and therapeutic treatment. This paper aims to investigate the predictive power of Ras homolog family member B (RhoB) protein in rectal cancer. Methods: This study introduces the integration of pretrained convolutional neural networks and support vector machines (SVMs) for classifying biopsy samples of immunohistochemical expression of protein RhoB in rectal-cancer patients to validate its biologic measure in biopsy. Features of the immunohistochemical expression images were extracted by the pretrained networks and used for binary classification by the SVMs into two groups of less and more than 5-year survival rates. Results: The fusion of neural search architecture network (NASNet)-Large for deep-layer feature extraction and classifier using SVMs provided the best average classification performance with a total accuracy = 85%, prediction of survival rate of more than 5 years = 90%, and prediction of survival rate of less than 5 years = 75%. Conclusions: The finding obtained from the use of AI reported in this study suggest that RhoB expression on rectal-cancer biopsy can be potentially used as a biomarker for predicting survival outcomes in rectal-cancer patients, which can be informative for clinical decision making if the patient would be recommended for preoperative therapy.

Data deduplication is a crucial technique in the field of data compression that aims to eliminate redundant copies of recurring data. This technique has gained significant popularity in the realm of cloud storage due to its ability to effectively reduce storage requirements and optimize bandwidth utilization. To ensure the safeguarding of sensitive data while simultaneously facilitating deduplication, researchers have put forth the concept of convergent encryption as a potential solution. This technique involves encrypting the data prior to its outsourcing, thereby enhancing the confidentiality of the information. In this work, an earnest endeavor is undertaken to formally tackle the issue of authorized data deduplication, with the aim of enhancing data security. Our approach combines the Diffie-Hellman algorithm and symmetrical external decision to protect and popularize information, ensuring end-to-end encryption to encourage user adoption of cloud storage. The proposed model employs block-level deduplication and guarantees the randomness of ciphertexts by generating encryption keys using the Diffie-Hellman algorithm. This method effectively counters both internal and external brute-force attacks, enhancing data security while reducing computational costs. An extensive experimentation is carried out to demonstrate that our approach is particularly beneficial in scenarios with multiple privilege sets. Overall, the proposed model offers an elaborate framework that maintains data privacy and strengthens security measures, contributing to a more efficient and secure cloud-based document search.

Background: Over a decade, tissues dissected adjacent to primary tumors have been considered “normal” or healthy samples (NATs). However, NATs have recently been discovered to be distinct from both tumorous and normal tissues. The ability to predict the survival rate of cancer patients using NATs can open a new door to selecting optimal treatments for cancer and discovering biomarkers. Methods: This paper introduces an artificial intelligence (AI) approach that uses NATs for predicting the 5-year survival of pre-operative radiotherapy patients with rectal cancer. The new approach combines pre-trained deep learning, nonlinear dynamics, and long short-term memory to classify immunohistochemical images of RhoB protein expression on NATs. Results: Ten-fold cross-validation results show 88% accuracy of prediction obtained from the new approach, which is also higher than those provided from baseline methods. Conclusion: Preliminary results not only add objective evidence to recent findings of NATs’ molecular characteristics using state-of-the-art AI methods, but also contribute to the discovery of RhoB expression on NATs in rectal-cancer patients. Clinical impact: The ability to predict the survival rate of cancer patients is extremely important for clinical decision-making. The proposed AI tool is promising for assisting oncologists in their treatments of rectal cancer patients.

With the proliferation of the blockchain technology ecosystems such as mining pools, crypto exchanges, full Bitcoin nodes, wallets, and pool protocol servers in recent years, the denial of service (DoS) attack vector has become more prevalent, and the attacks are targeted to the peer-to-peer networks and blockchain users. Despite blockchain enhancing security with decentralized design, secured distributed storage, and privacy, it is still vulnerable to new attack threats. If an attempted DoS is successful on blockchain, the impact is most likely massive given the fact that it is predominantly used for finance applications. An extensive account of the current state-of-the-art for possible DoS and corresponding mitigation techniques is not discussed in the existing research. This paper analyzes and categorizes the existing state-of-the-art DoS attack methods, detection techniques, and mitigation solutions targeting blockchain peer-to-peer networks as well as conventional network crypto exchanges. The review of the prior research shows that the blockchain ecosystem can be a target to successfully perform DoS attacks in the future, and technological advancements in blockchain are needed to mitigate potential attacks.

Medical service providers generate many healthcare records containing sensitive and private information about a patient’s health. The patient can allow healthcare service providers to generate healthcare data, which can be stored with healthcare service providers. After some time, if the patient wants to share the healthcare records of one healthcare service provider with another, we can quickly exchange the healthcare record using our approaches. The challenges faced by healthcare service providers are healthcare record sharing, tampering, and insurance fraud. We have developed Health Record Chain for Sharing Medical Data using the modified SHA-512 algorithm. We have evaluated our methods, and our method outperforms in terms of storage cost and total time consumption for health record sharing. The proposed model takes 130 ms to share 100,000 records, 32 ms faster than traditional methods. It also resists various security attacks, as verified by an automated security protocol verification tool.

Today, medical images play a crucial role in obtaining relevant medical information for clinical purposes. However, the quality of medical images must be analyzed and improved. Various factors affect the quality of medical images at the time of medical image reconstruction. To obtain the most clinically relevant information, multi-modality-based image fusion is beneficial. Nevertheless, numerous multi-modality-based image fusion techniques are present in the literature. Each method has its assumptions, merits, and barriers. This paper critically analyses some sizable non-conventional work within multi-modality-based image fusion. Often, researchers seek help in apprehending multi-modality-based image fusion and choosing an appropriate multi-modality-based image fusion approach; this is unique to their cause. Hence, this paper briefly introduces multi-modality-based image fusion and non-conventional methods of multi-modality-based image fusion. This paper also signifies the merits and downsides of multi-modality-based image fusion.

Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is a serious medical condition that necessitates a prompt and exhaustive medical diagnosis. This paper presents a multi-label ICH classification issue with six different types of hemorrhages, namely epidural (EPD), intraparenchymal (ITP), intraventricular (ITV), subarachnoid (SBC), subdural (SBD), and Some. A patient may experience numerous hemorrhages at the same time in some situations. A CT scan of a patient’s skull is used to detect and classify the type of ICH hemorrhage(s) present. First, our model determines whether there is a hemorrhage or not; if there is a hemorrhage, the model attempts to identify the type of hemorrhage(s). In this paper, we present a hybrid deep learning approach that combines convolutional neural network (CNN) and Long-Short Term Memory (LSTM) approaches (Conv-LSTM). In addition, to propose viable solutions for the problem, we used a Systematic Windowing technique with a Conv-LSTM. To ensure the efficacy of the proposed model, experiments are conducted on the RSNA dataset. The suggested model provides higher sensitivity (93.87%), specificity (96.45%), precision (95.21%), and accuracy (95.14%). In addition, the obtained F1 score results outperform existing deep neural network-based algorithms.

One of the top causes of mortality in people globally is a brain tumor. Today, biopsy is regarded as the cornerstone of cancer diagnosis. However, it faces difficulties, including low sensitivity, hazards during biopsy treatment, and a protracted waiting period for findings. In this context, developing non-invasive and computational methods for identifying and treating brain cancers is crucial. The classification of tumors obtained from an MRI is crucial for making a variety of medical diagnoses. However, MRI analysis typically requires much time. The primary challenge is that the tissues of the brain are comparable. Numerous scientists have created new techniques for identifying and categorizing cancers. However, due to their limitations, the majority of them eventually fail. In that context, this work presents a novel way of classifying multiple types of brain tumors. This work also introduces a segmentation algorithm known as Canny Mayfly. Enhanced chimpanzee optimization algorithm (EChOA) is used to select the features by minimizing the dimension of the retrieved features. ResNet-152 and the softmax classifier are then used to perform the feature classification process. Python is used to carry out the proposed method on the Figshare dataset. The accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity of the proposed cancer classification system are just a few of the characteristics that are used to evaluate its overall performance. According to the final evaluation results, our proposed strategy outperformed, with an accuracy of 98.85%.

Owing to the prevalence of the Internet of things (IoT) devices connected to the Internet, the number of IoT-based attacks has been growing yearly. The existing solutions may not effectively mitigate IoT attacks. In particular, the advanced network-based attack detection solutions using traditional Intrusion detection systems are challenging when the network environment supports traditional as well as IoT protocols and uses a centralized network architecture such as a software defined network (SDN). In this paper, we propose a long short-term memory (LSTM) based approach to detect network attacks using SDN supported intrusion detection system in IoT networks. We present an extensive performance evaluation of the machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) model in two SDNIoT-focused datasets. We also propose an LSTM-based architecture for the effective multiclass classification of network attacks in IoT networks. Our evaluation of the proposed model shows that our model effectively identifies the attacks and classifies the attack types with an accuracy of 0.971. In addition, various visualization methods are shown to understand the dataset’s characteristics and visualize the embedding features.

The largest source of information in healthcare during the present epidemic is radiological imaging, which is also one of the most difficult sources to interpret. Clinicians today are forced to rely heavily on therapeutic image analysis that has been filtered and sometimes performed by worn-out radiologists. Transmission of these medical data increases in frequency due to patient overflow, and protecting confidentiality, along with integrity and availability, emerges as one of the most crucial components of security. Medical images generally contain sensitive information about patients and are therefore vulnerable to various security threats during transmission over public networks. These images must be protected before being transmitted over this network to the public. In this paper, an efficient SCAN and chaotic-map-based image encryption model is proposed. This paper describes pixel value and pixel position manipulation based on SCAN and chaotic theory. The SCAN method involves translating an image’s pixel value to a different pixel value and rearranging pixels in a predetermined order. A chaotic map is used to shift the positions of the pixels within the block. Decryption follows the reverse process of encryption. The effectiveness of the suggested strategy is evaluated by computing the histogram chi-square test, MSE, PSNR, NPCR, UACI, SSIM, and UQI. The efficiency of the suggested strategy is demonstrated by comparison analysis. The results of analysis and testing show that the proposed program can achieve the concept of partial encryption. In addition, simulation experiments demonstrate that our approach has both a faster encryption speed and higher security when compared to existing techniques.

Cyberattacks have increased as a consequence of the expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT). It is necessary to detect anomalies so that smart devices need to be protected from these attacks, which must be mitigated at the edge of the IoT network. Therefore, efficient detection depends on the selection of an optimal IoT traffic feature set and the learning algorithm that classifies the IoT traffic. There is a flaw in the existing anomaly detection systems because the feature selection algorithms do not identify the most appropriate set of features. In this article, a layered paddy crop optimization (LPCO) algorithm is suggested to choose the optimal set of features. Furthermore, the use of smart devices generates tremendous traffic, which can be labelled as either normal or attack using a capsule network (CN) approach. Five network traffic benchmark datasets are utilized to evaluate the proposed approach, including NSL KDD, UNSW NB, CICIDS, CSE-CIC-IDS, and UNSW Bot-IoT. Based on the experiments, the presented approach yields assuring results in comparison with the existing base classifiers and feature selection approaches. Comparatively, the proposed strategy performs better than the current state-of-the-art approaches.

In the COVID-19 era, it may be possible to detect COVID-19 by detecting lesions in scans, i.e., ground-glass opacity, consolidation, nodules, reticulation, or thickened interlobular septa, and lesion distribution, but it becomes difficult at the early stages due to embryonic lesion growth and the restricted use of high dose X-ray detection. Therefore, it may be possible for a patient who may or may not be infected with coronavirus to consider using high-dose X-rays, but it may cause more risks. Conclusively, using low-dose X-rays to produce CT scans and then adding a rigorous denoising algorithm to the scans is the best way to protect patients from side effects or a high dose X-ray when diagnosing coronavirus involvement early. Hence, this paper proposed a denoising scheme using an NLM filter and method noise thresholding concept in the shearlet domain for noisy COVID CT images. Low-dose COVID CT images can be further utilized. The results and comparative analysis showed that, in most cases, the proposed method gives better outcomes than existing ones.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has rapidly progressed in recent years and immensely influenced many industries in how they operate. Consequently, IoT technology has improved productivity in many sectors, and smart farming has also hugely benefited from the IoT. Smart farming enables precision agriculture, high crop yield, and the efficient utilization of natural resources to sustain for a longer time. Smart farming includes sensing capabilities, communication technologies to transmit the collected data from the sensors, and data analytics to extract meaningful information from the collected data. These modules will enable farmers to make intelligent decisions and gain profits. However, incorporating new technologies includes inheriting security and privacy consequences if they are not implemented in a secure manner, and smart farming is not an exception. Therefore, security monitoring is an essential component to be implemented for smart farming. In this paper, we propose a cloud-enabled smart-farm security monitoring framework to monitor device status and sensor anomalies effectively and mitigate security attacks using behavioral patterns. Additionally, a blockchain-based smart-contract application was implemented to securely store security-anomaly information and proactively mitigate similar attacks targeting other farms in the community. We implemented the security-monitoring-framework prototype for smart farms using Arduino Sensor Kit, ESP32, AWS cloud, and the smart contract on the Ethereum Rinkeby Test Network and evaluated network latency to monitor and respond to security events. The performance evaluation of the proposed framework showed that our solution could detect security anomalies within real-time processing time and update the other farm nodes to be aware of the situation.
