Transmissive and reflective metasurfaces have been extensively studied for generating an orbital angular momentum (OAM)-carrying beam. However, the existing OAM generators suffer from feed blockage, large profile, OAM mode nonreconfigurable, and narrowband. An OAM generator that integrates multiple functions into a single module is in high demand in OAM-based applications. In this study, we proposed an OAM generator based on a folded reflectarray with high-gain low-profile broadband and programmable characteristics. The proposed multifunctional OAM generator, comprising half the volume of the normal OAM metasurfaces, can generate a high-gain $l=0$ , $l=+1$ , and $l=+2$ OAM-mode-reconfigurable beams with high mode purity over the frequency range of 9.5–10.5 GHz. A novel method for the development of a reconfigurable cavity bandpass filter using fluid dielectric is proposed. Dielectric material can produce an effective permittivity ϵeff of the resonant mode when it is loaded into the cavity. Thus, a tube filled with fluid dielectric, e.g., distilled water, can achieve controlled and reversible ϵeff by adjusting the amount of water in the tube. The same manner of resonant frequency can be achieved as the resonant frequency is related to ϵeff, and then frequency tuning is realized. The fluid property can realize easier and faster tuning mechanism than conventional solid dielectric. As ϵeff is affected by the loaded dielectric parallel to the electric field, a triple-mode resonator with resonant modes TE101, TE011, and TM110, which have orthogonal electric fields, is investigated to realize tri-band reconfiguration. The ϵeff, as well as the resonant frequencies, corresponding to each mode can be individually controlled by adjusting their related water posts. Then, reconfigurable single-band and tri-band bandpass filters are designed. A reconfigurable tri-band cavity filter using a triple-mode cavity resonator and fluid dielectric with individual and continuous frequency tuning is reported for the first time. A high roll-off, third-order frequency selective surface (FSS) with quasi-elliptic bandpass response is presented. It is based on substrate integrated waveguide technology. Its unit cell includes three cavities that support at the TE101 mode. Interactions of resonators are dominated by magnetic couplings. The coupling matrix is analyzed and used to design FSS. Guidelines for a coupling-matrix-based FSS design are given. Transmission zeros realized close to the lower and upper narrow passband lead to high roll-off characteristics. In addition, a cross-polarization feature is easily achieved. Finally, a prototype is designed and fabricated to validate the proposed structure. A stable frequency response in passband has been obtained with an oblique incidence of 40° for TE polarization. A broadband high‐gain slot grid array antenna (SGAA) is proposed in this paper. Based on the electromagnetic complementarity principle, the metal elements in the traditional microstrip grid array antenna (GAA) are replaced by a wide slot element. Compared with the GAA, the proposed SGAA achieves broadband and high‐gain performance. In order to demonstrate this concept, a prototype with 9‐element SGAA is designed using wide slot radiation elements and fabricated on Rogers 5880 printed circuit board (PCB) substrates, which is fed by a 50 Ω coaxial probe. The measured and simulated results show a good agreement. The proposed SGAA achieves a measured peak gain of 14.8 dBi at 26.0 GHz, a 10‐dB impedance bandwidth from 22.2 to 28.5 GHz with a fractional bandwidth of 24.9%. These results indicate that the SGAA is with high performance and it is suitable for the fifth‐generation (5G) millimeter wave (mmW) wireless communication system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a series of designs for cavity balanced and unbalanced diplexer are proposed. The balanced and unbalanced designs can be categorized into four groups—unbalanced-to-unbalanced, unbalanced-to-balanced, balanced-to-unbalanced (B2U), and balanced-to-balanced. First, two approaches to achieve out-of-phase characteristics of three fundamental modes, namely TE011, TE101, and TM110 in a single triple-mode resonator, are proposed for balun filter designs. Second, four types of unbalanced and balanced diplexers are presented by adopting these three fundamental modes, of which the Butterworth response applies with specific external quality and coupling coefficient. To the authors’ best knowledge, full-metal cavity balun diplexer and balanced diplexer are not reported in the open literature. For proof of concept, the design of a B2U diplexer is fabricated and measured. Good matching between simulated and measured results shows the accuracy of the proposed design and methodology, which would be attractive in the high-power radio frequency (RF) front-end systems. A novel band‐stop filter (BSF) using coaxial‐fed slotted substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is proposed in this article. The proposed BSF is designed using coaxial‐fed line with extended probes penetrating through the substrate and connecting each other, instead of using the main transmission line to dispose the resonators. The SIW cavities perform the resonators excited by the probes to produce a stopband. Then, two BSFs with one and two SIW cavities are firstly designed, both of them have SIW cavity resonator modes and lower‐band reflection zeroes. Then, two types of third‐order BSFs using two cavity resonators and one slot resonator are presented, the high selectivity is achieved by the RZs at both sides of the stopband. A triple-passband filter is proposed by exploiting the first three resonant modes in a single rectangular cavity: TE101, TE011, and TM110 modes. Triple-passband frequency response is realized by generating one transmission zero (TZ) between any of two adjacent modes so that each mode contributes one passband. Beside TZs between modes, the three resonant modes are excited by properly placing two coupling apertures at input/output ports of the cavity. When cascading two single cavities, three pairs of slots are used to independently control the coupling between two respective modes of different cavities. As a result, not only two TZs between different passbands but also a pair of additional TZs below the first passband and above the third passband could be realized, respectively, thereby attaining a high selectivity of a triple-passband filter. Finally, a dual-cavity filter with triple-passband and four out-of-band TZs is fabricated and tested. The measured results have verified the validity of the proposed design well. In this paper, the design of a cavity crossover with three intersecting channels is presented. The three fundamental modes of a cavity resonator, namely, TE011, TE101, and TM110 modes, are adopted to resonate at each of three channels, respectively. Due to the modal orthogonality of these fundamental modes, high isolation among three channels can be achieved. Two kinds of crossovers, for narrowband and broadband applications, are presented. For the narrowband case, the proposed crossover resonates at 2.91 GHz with the fractional bandwidth of 1.4%. For the broadband case, the proposed crossover resonates at 3 GHz with the fractional bandwidth of 24%. The isolations of both designs reach more than 50 dB. For a proof of concept, the broadband example of the cavity crossover structures is fabricated and measured. A class of bandwidth-enhanced full-metal cavity-backed slot filtenna is proposed in this communication. The design is constructed by three resonators. They are two resonance windows and one resonance cavity. As a consequence of that, three resonance modes are achieved using a single cavity. By using this resonance window, the 10 dB frequency bandwidth of the proposed cavity antenna has wide fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 20%. To the authors’ best knowledge, the proposed filtenna achieves the widest FBW among those published full-metal cavity-backed slot filtennas. Moreover, a fifth-order filtenna is also designed to further broaden the 10 dB FBW to 24%. Finally, an antenna prototype was fabricated and tested for experimental verification of the proposed design methodology. Two third‐order continuously tunable bandpass filters featuring single‐/dual‐band operations, respectively, are presented in this letter. One requires a set of three metallic posts in a single metallic cavity, while the other needs one more set to achieve the desired dual‐band operation. The length of each post is adjusted through a screw from its top to establish the center frequency of the passband. Moreover, the coupling among these three resonators can be controlled by varying their locations to determine the bandwidth of the passband. At the bottom of the cavity, grooves are created to linearize and extend the frequency tuning range. In addition, compared to traditional coaxial cavity filters, the proposed designs offer the advantages of ease in fabrication and low in weight. A practical example for the dual‐band design is presented for experimental verification. A novel concept and approach for integration of a three-state diplexer (TSD) by utilizing the triple-mode cavity resonators is proposed in this paper. The proposed TSD has the inherent nature of three frequency channels, two of which can be utilized for duplexing channels by exciting one port as the input in each state. Meanwhile, three fundamental modes, namely, TE011, TE101, and TM110, are excited in the triple-mode resonators (TMRs) to control these three frequency channels. Without utilizing any junction networks for impedance matching, the required values of the external quality factors and coupling coefficients can be extracted to meet the relevant Chebyshev responses in the three bands of the TSD, simultaneously. Owing to the modal orthogonality among the three fundamental modes, high isolation among these three frequency channels can be effectively achieved. For proof of concept, two design examples of the TSD structures are presented with different topologies. For both examples, four and six TMRs are adopted, respectively, where the predicted three frequency channels of the TSD can be successfully excited with excellent channel isolations. A highly integrated three-state diplexer (TSD) on a single planar elliptical structure is for the first time presented in this paper. Three resonant modes are investigated in a planar elliptical resonator, e.g., two TM11 degenerate modes and one TM21 mode. These three resonant modes are designed to form three filtering channels, which are further combined to generate three states of a diplexer, namely, TSD. The planar elliptical triple-mode resonator is fed by three microstrip lines to form a triple-mode TSD. In order to validate the concept, the designed planar TSD is fabricated and measured. An integrated method of broadband duplex–filtenna based on a 3-D metallic cavity structure is proposed in this paper. In our design, two broadband filtennas with different operation frequency bands share the same metallic cavity-backed resonator. The two operation bands are realized with fractional bandwidths (FBWs) of 24% and 18%. The whole total FBW of two bands achieves 57%, and there are radiated nulls at the transition band showing a good filtering property. By integrating these two filtennas, a duplex–filtenna is formed with unidirectional radiation property. The radiation gain of these two filtennas exhibits good filtering property. The filtenna gain frequency responses have two transmission zeros near the lower and upper cutoff frequencies of both lower and upper operation bands. To validate the proposed concept, one cavity-backed duplex–filtenna with low-profile metallic cavity is designed and fabricated. In this paper, a wireless charging coil integrated with a Bluetooth antenna is proposed. The equivalent circuit model is developed to analyze this multifunctional coil. The outermost turn of the coil is appropriately designed in order to improve the radiation efficiency of the antenna. In this way, the radiation frequency of the coil is determined by the length of the outermost coil. Meanwhile, the inductance of the coil is adjusted to achieve high charging efficiency. When the coil is taken as a Bluetooth antenna, the measured reflection coefficient has achieved a fractional bandwidth of 8.3%, covering a frequency range of 2.3–2.5 GHz, with $\vert {S} _{11}\vert < -10$ dB. The measured radiation efficiency of the antenna is about 62% at 2.4 GHz. When the coil is applied, the system charging efficiency is about 61%. In particular, the entire circuit module is fabricated on the low-cost FR4 printed circuit board. A novel concept for the two-in-one design with the integration of filters and antennas, using a single cavity, is presented in this communication. Basically, a triple-mode resonator (TMR) is utilized as a common feeder to achieve filtering and radiating functions at three different frequency bands. Each of the three bands adopts one of the three fundamental modes, namely, TE011, TE101, and TM110, in a single TMR to realize the relevant functions. Owing to the modal orthogonality of these fundamental modes, high isolation can be effectively realized among these three channels. Based on the proposed TMR, three different prototypes are designed for different applications. For the first prototype, the structure of a dual-band filter plus an antenna is presented using a second-order TMR. Based on the combination of a duplexer plus an antenna, the second prototype is attained. To further explore the function of the proposed TMR, the structure of a filter plus a dual-polarization antenna is depicted as the third prototype. For verification, the third prototype is fabricated and tested. A novel approach for design of a miniaturized cavity triplexer is proposed in this paper by using triple-mode resonator (TMR) as a common feeder of three frequency channels in a triplexer. Three frequency channels are generated by three fundamental modes of a single rectangular triple-mode cavity resonator. Without installing any connection-oriented junction network, i.e., T-junction or star junction, only coupling slots are adopted herein to achieve required coupling coefficients and external quality factors toward the specified Chebyshev responses in the three passbands simultaneously. High isolation among these three separated bands can be effectively achieved owing to the modal orthogonality via sharing a common TMR structure as a feeder. Two triplexers are then designed and fabricated using varied topologies. The hybrid resonator triplexer method is presented as the first approach by using a TMR as a feeder to feed three sets of single-mode cavity bandpass filters. As the second approach, the triple-mode triplexer (TMT) method is developed by cascading a few TMRs to form a multistage higher order TMT. Finally, two fabricated triplexer prototypes are tested for experimental verification of the proposed design methodology. Good agreement between measurement and simulation is achieved. This paper proposes a quasi-elliptic filter with slot coupling and nonadjacent cross coupling based on the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity. The slots etched on the top metal plane of SIWcavity are used to produce electrical coupling, and the cross coupling is realized by the microstrip transmission line above the SIW cavity. The coupling strength is mainly controlled by the width and height of the slot. The length of the open-ended microstrip line controls the sign of the cross coupling. The cross coupling with different signs are used in the filter to produce a pair of transmission zeros (TZs) at both sides of the passband. In order to prove the validity, a fourth-order SIW quasi-elliptic filter with TZsat both sides of the passband is fabricated in a two-layer printed circuit board. The measured insertion loss at a center frequency of 3.7 GHz is 1.1 dB. The return loss within the passband is below −18 dB with a fractional bandwidth of 16%. A novel broadband dual-polarized slot antenna with stable radiation pattern is presented. Two U-shape microstrip lines are introduced at two feeding ports to excite a cross-shape slot for realizing dual-polarized antenna. The simulated results are given to explain how the ground plane, short metallic pillars, and reflector affect the reflection coefficient, \vert S11\vert . The beamwidth of the proposed antenna is stable within the operating band, whereas a broad fractional bandwidth ( \vert S11 \vert < - 10 dB) up to 68% is achieved, covering a frequency range of 1.3–2.65 GHz. ABSTRACT A novel substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) dual-band bandpass filter fabricated on a double-layer substrate is presented in this article. Each layer uses two rectangular cavities to create a passband, so the two individual bandpass filters are formed by setting the different locations of loaded posts for dual-band operation, that is, 4.6 and 5.3 GHz. In design, the coupling between the upper and lower layers is realized via two slots on the middle metal layer between two substrates. The double-layer structure not only provides a degree of freedom to control the center frequency of two passbands, but also improves the out-of-band rejection skirts with the help of produced transmission zeros. A synthesis method for an even-order Chebyshev bandpass filter of a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) is proposed in this paper. The transformation of a Chebyshev polynomial is studied and applied to achieve an equal source and load termination for an even-order filtering response. This transformed Chebyshev polynomial is used to design a millimeter-wave (mmW) SIW bandpass filter through electric coupling of SIW resonators or cavities. The cascaded resonators are formed by properly etching the slots on the top metal plane of a single SIW cavity, and these slots create electric coupling as desired in a filter design. The proposed synthesis procedure of coupled-resonator bandpass filter with an even-order Chebyshev response is given and discussed here in detail. The theoretical and extracted external quality factor ( QE ) and coupling coefficient ( $K$ ) are utilized to determine the filter circuit dimensions. Two fourth-order bandpass filters are designed at 140 GHz under a Chebyshev response using magnetic coupling and electric coupling as design examples. These two filters are used to prove the correctness of the proposed synthesis method as well as the advantages of electric coupling in mmW. In order to prove the validity, the previously proposed fourth-order filter using electric coupling is fabricated. The filter is fabricated in a single substrate layer using a low-temperature cofired ceramic technology and measured in a frequency band around 140 GHz. This paper proposes a novel diplexer based on triple-mode dielectric-loaded cylindrical cavities. Such two metal cavities are designed to achieve two different frequency bands, while three resonant modes of a single cavity are classified as a TM mode and a pair of hybrid (HE) degeneration modes. An off-centered dielectric resonator instead of a traditional corner cuts perturbation or screws perturbation properly perturbs the two degenerate modes in the same cavity. Extensive study is then conducted to design this proposed diplexer. Finally, a diplexer prototype is fabricated using a brass cavity and it is tested for experimental verification of the predicted results. This paper proposes a novel class of wideband metal cavity multiple-mode bandpass filters (BPFs), consisting of a triple-mode filter and a quadruple-mode filter. Two TE11 degeneration modes in a single metal cavity are excited by using an off-centered approach instead of a traditional corner-cut approach. They work together with the TM10 mode to constitute a three-pole wide passband with a fractional bandwidth of 30% at the central frequency of 3.2 GHz. Moreover, an off-centered metal cylinder can properly excite an extra TM11 mode in the passband. As such, this TM11 mode, TM10 mode, and a pair of degeneration TE11 modes can be simultaneously utilized to form a quadruple-mode BPF. Compared with the triple-mode BPF, the quadruple-mode BPF has better performance in term of the steepness of rejection skirt. The fractional bandwidth of this BPF can achieve up to 31%. In final, the two proposed BPFs are fabricated by using the silver plated aluminum technology. A triple‐mode narrow‐band bandpass filter is presented by exploiting three fundamental resonant modes, TE101, TE011 and TM110 modes, in a single air‐filled rectangular cavity. Compared with the conventional multimode cavity filter, the proposed filter is to simultaneously excite these three resonant modes without installing any cuts or screws inside the cavity, so as to keep the integrity of the cavity and decrease the fabrication cost. In particular, an inclined U‐shaped slot is utilised at each of the microstrip feed line to properly excite these three modes such that not only three poles are achieved within the desired passband but also a pair of transmission zeros are generated in the lower and upper stop‐bands. Millimeter-wave (mmW) bandpass filter using substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is proposed in this paper. The propagation constants of three different types of electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) units are discussed and compared with their passbands and stopbands performance. The slotted-SIW unit shows a very good lower stopband and upper stopband performance. The mmW bandpass filter with three cascaded uniform slotted-SIW-based EBG units is constructed and designed at 40 GHz. The extracted coupling coefficient ( K ) and quality factor ( Q ) are used to determine the filter circuit dimensions. To prove the validity, the previous proposed structure is fabricated in a single circuit layer using low-temperature co-fired ceramic technology and measured at 40 GHz, respectively. A new method for frequency selective surface (FSS) with high selectivity, namely, filtenna–filtenna (FA-FA)-based technique, is proposed, which consists of two filtering antennas and impedance matching network. Based on the reciprocity theorem, the radiation null of filtenna can provide a stopband of the proposed FSS. In this work, it is validated by using a periodic array of back-to-back magnetoelectronic (ME)-dipole antennas with split-ring resonators (SRRs), and a slotted GND plane is used to connect the two ME-dipole antennas for impedance matching. Bandpass response of the proposed FSS is realized by the intrinsic high-pass characteristic of ME-dipole antennas and the bandstop characteristic of SRRs. Four transmission zeros (TZs) and three transmission poles (TPs) are generated, exhibiting a high-order filtering response. TZs and TPs are analyzed by equivalent circuit model and current distributions. The 3 dB fractional bandwidth (${\mathrm {FBW}}_{\mathrm {3\,dB}}$) of 38.5% in the passband and the 20 dB fractional bandwidths $({\mathrm {FBW}}_{\mathrm {20\,dB}})$ of 8.7% in the lower rejection band and 13.8% in upper rejection band are obtained in this design. Finally, a prototype is fabricated and measured to further validate the proposed FA-FA-based technique. Simulated and measured results show that the proposed FA-FA-based FSS is with the distinct advantages, including wide passband, low profile, tunable TZs, and dual-polarized application, which verifies the proposed method of FSSs. ABSTRACT A compact triple-mode dielectric resonator (DR) bandpass filter (BPF) based on a single waveguide cavity is proposed, while three resonant modes of a single cavity are classified as a TM mode and a pair of hybrid degenerate modes (HE modes). Two HE degeneration modes in a single metal cavity are excited by using an off-centered DR approach. They work together to constitute a three-pole passband with a fractional bandwidth of 2.7% at the central frequency of 2.53 GHz. A coplanar waveguide fed wideband dipole antenna using a multiple‐mode resonator is proposed and developed. A simple dipole antenna structure is investigated for its wideband radiation performance by virtue of its single, double, triple and quadruplet resonant modes. Later, a metallic reflector is properly installed in order to provide a unidirectional radiation pattern as demanded for the long‐term evolution (LTE) application. In the design, a quadruplet‐mode wideband dipole antenna is explored to cover the LTE operation band with a 10 dB fractional bandwidth of 46.8%. In this article, a class of wideband bandpass filters (BPFs) using triple-mode coaxial resonators has been introduced. Each triple-mode resonator is utilized with TM010 mode, TE− mode, and TE+ mode orthogonal to each other. Two L-shaped feeding probes and a loading disk are adopted to implement the miniaturization of these wideband BPFs. To observe the degree of miniaturization, we set a design specification of the same fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 40% at the same central frequency of 2.5 GHz. After employing the L-shaped feeding probes and loading disk, the efficient circuit size without cavity thickness is reduced by 80% compared with the triple-mode wideband filter without L-shaped feeding probes and loading disk. In contrast, the unloaded quality factors are slightly changed. In addition, another advantage of this work is that the upper stopband is extended to $2.5f_{0}$. Three experimental wideband BPFs in the large, medium, and small sizes are designed, manufactured, and tested for demonstration. Good agreements are obtained between simulation and experiment. This paper presents a novel polarization-insensitive dual-band frequency-selective surface (FSS)-based electromagnetic shield. The miniaturized FSS unit cell consists of a modified Jerusalem crossed loop and a corner-modified square loop. These FSS elements are arranged in a co-planner configuration over a single-layer Rogers 5880 substrate and simultaneously offer effective shielding in the X- and Ku-bands. Moreover, the FSS manifests polarization-independent and angularly stable band-reject filter characteristics over various oblique angles of incidence for both the TE and TM polarizations with virtuous attenuation at both resonances. In addition, the FSS structure is modelled into an equivalent lumped circuit to better analyze the phenomenon of EM wave suppression. A finite prototype of FSS is fabricated and tested. In this article, a low‐profile ultra‐wideband (UWB) circularly polarized (CP) antenna array with metasurface is presented. The antenna array consists of a 2 × 2 polarization conversion metasurfaces (PCMs) and a sequential feeding network. The PCM is composed of 4 × 4 polarization conversion unit‐cells. The unit‐cell is obtained by putting an ellipse patch into a rectangular ring, connecting the ellipse and the ring with two stubs, and then rotating it by 45°. A linear polarization (LP) slot antenna with a PCM can achieve a CP antenna, which has an impedance bandwidth of about 33.8% (5.4‐7.6 GHz) of |S11| < −10 dB and a 3‐dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of about 24.8% (5.8‐7.3 GHz), respectively. The UWB CP characteristics can be achieved when a UWB sequential feeding network is added to the 2 × 2 PCMs. Simulated and measured results show that the proposed antenna array has an impedance bandwidth of about 117% (1.75‐6.75 GHz) of |S11| < −10 dB and a 3‐dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of about 105.7% (2.24‐7.35 GHz), respectively. The usable bandwidth can reach 100.3% (2.24‐6.75 GHz). Besides, the proposed antenna array achieves a higher gain compared to the traditional slot array and the peak gain of 12.5 dBic at 6 GHz. The overall size of the antenna is 0.6λ × 0.6λ × 0.03λ (λ refers to the wavelength of the lowest operating frequency in free space). In this article, a continuously microfluidically tunable filter using two microstrip resonators is proposed. By injecting different amount of water into the tubes, the resonant frequency as well as coupling intensity between two resonators can be controlled. As a result, the fractional bandwidth (FBW) of the proposed band can keep constant when tuning the frequency. As far as the authors know, most of the state‐of‐the‐art microfluidics tunable filters are discontinuous, and the tuning range is limited. In this article, the wide tuning capacity of the frequency is realized by placing some tubes between the microstrip resonators and the ground. By increasing or decreasing the amount of water in the pipes, the local dielectric constant and the equivalent electrical length of the transmission line are changed simultaneously. Therefore, it plays a key role in resonant frequency tuning. In the other hand, the coupling coefficient can be controlled by injecting the amount of water into the tube between the two resonators. Finally, through the analysis of computer simulation technology simulation and measurement, it can be seen that the tuning range of resonant frequency is up to 41.3%, with the central frequency varying from 1.33 to 1.88 GHz. The insertion loss is less than 3.09 dB and the return loss is higher than 15 dB, while the FBW is 3.4% ± 0.2%. A dielectric‐loaded slot antenna with the characteristic of broadband, low profile, and low cross‐polarization is presented. The antenna incorporating a low permittivity (εl=4.1 ${\varepsilon }_{l}=4.1$) and multiple high permittivity (εh=22 ${\varepsilon }_{h}=22$) rectangle dielectric is fed by two rectangle slot, which generates three slot modes and achieves measured 10 dB impedance bandwidth of 88% $ \% $ from 1.57 to 4.04 GHz covering the long term evolution (1.71–2.69 GHz) and sub‐6G (3.3–3.6 GHz). Furthermore, the presented slot antenna with a footprint of 0.81 × 0.56λ02 ${\lambda }_{0}^{2}$ and a low profile of 0.09λ0 ${\lambda }_{0}$ (λ0 ${\lambda }_{0}$ is the wavelength in the air region at the center frequency) appears the performance of measured peak gain of 9 dB without using any dielectric resonator mode. On the basis of the single‐polarized design, the dual‐polarized design with a profile of 0.09λ0 ${\lambda }_{0}$ is investigated and fabricated. Novel design concept of reconfigurable full-metal cavity-backed slot antennas (CBSAs) using movable metal posts is proposed in this article. It is found that the cavity mode with purely directional electric field is only affected by the metal post to be placed in parallel to its electric field. Thus, two orthogonal cavity modes TE101 and TE011 can be perturbed by two respective metal posts so as to independently tune the resonant frequencies of these two modes. Electromagnetic energy of the cavity modes can be radiated out through the slots on the top wall of the cavity. In this context, reconfigurable slot antennas with different functionalities, such as single-band, dual-band, dual-mode wideband, the tunable frequency with constant bandwidth, and tunable bandwidth with constant frequency, are thus constituted to demonstrate its attractive design feasibility. The frequency-reconfigurable cavity-back slot antenna with movable metal posts is proposed for the first time. The utilization of the metal posts allows us to achieve a continuous frequency tuning property, while the full-metal structure of the proposed antenna holds a high power-handling capacity and a high radiation efficiency. In final, a prototype of the dual-mode wideband slot antenna is designed, fabricated, and tested to reveal its total efficiency higher than 88% and stable radiation pattern over the tuning band. A class of circularly‐polarized cavity‐backed slot antenna arrays with simplified feeding structure are proposed. Power dividing network is an essential feeding structure for the design of conventional antenna arrays, which results in complicated antenna structure. A novel feeding technique based on the electric field of cavity modes is introduced to feed the array elements. The slots on the top wall are directly fed by the electric field without additional feeding structure. Crossed slots with different lengths are introduced to achieve the self‐phased CP radiation as they produce different perturbation on the two degenerate cavity modes. Therefore, high efficiency and simple antenna structure of the CP slot antenna array are achieved. Then, two CP slot arrays with 3 × 3 and 8 × 8 elements are presented to show the designed feasibility. Finally, the 3 × 3 CP antenna array is fabricated and measured to validate the design concept, which can achieve 12.6 dBic gain, 94% total efficiency, 80% aperture efficiency, and −25 dB cross polarization. In this communication, an $S$ -band wide-bandwidth and wide-beamwidth full-metal circularly polarized (CP) cavity-backed slot antenna is proposed. A pair of triangular prisms placed at the corners of the cavity is introduced to produce TE101 and TE011 modes with orthogonal electric fields. These two modes are used to achieve the CP radiation and radiate the energy through a single-circular slot. By simultaneously varying the prisms’ size and slot radius, the axial ratio (AR) bandwidth (ARBW) improves. The ARBW is further improved by replacing the circular slot with an elliptical slot. As a result, the ARBW increases from 1.0% to 10.3% without complicating the antenna structure and without enlarging the antenna size. Besides, the antenna still operates at two degenerate modes to introduce stable radiation gain and pattern. In addition, the proposed CP slot antenna features a wide ARBW. The final measurement shows that the proposed CP antenna can achieve a 9.5% bandwidth, a stable gain of 7.65 dBic ± 0.15 dBic, and higher than 140° ARBWs in a wide frequency range. A quintuple‐mode wideband filter based on a single cavity is proposed. A pair of shorting pins is inserted into the cuboid cavity along the symmetry plane. The cavity filter is fed by a pair of coaxial cables and the inner conductor is inserted into the cavity with a circular disc at the end of the probe. The pair of inserted probes and the pair of shorting pins excite five resonant modes in the cavity. The proposed filter has the central frequency at 5.8 GHz with a bandwidth of 70%. Meanwhile the wideband filter has transmission zeros at the lower and upper‐stopbands to improve the selectivity and out‐of‐band performance. This article proposes a new class of miniaturized full‐metal bandpass filters (BPFs) and multiplexers using circular spiral resonators (CSRs). The proposed metal CSR is supported on the metal cavity's wall, which serves as a short‐end resonator. This CSR has obvious size reduction compared to traditional cavity resonators and owns low insertion loss, high power capacity and high selectivity. Then, three BPFs using two, three and four CSRs are designed and analysed. All the proposed filters have transmission zeroes (TZs) produced by the source‐load coupling without introducing additional coupling structure. The proposed CSR is further used to design diplexer and quadruplexer. All the proposed filters have ultra‐compact size, especially, the size of quadruplexer is only 0.23λ0 × 0.081λ0 × 0.067λ0. Finally, the fourth‐order filter and quadruplexer are fabricated and measured, the good agreement between the measured results and the simulated results validates the proposed design concepts. This article introduces a simple wideband circularly polarized (CP) S‐shaped slot antenna for ISM band wireless communication applications. By using a wide curve S‐shaped slot patch on the top side and a T‐shaped feeding line on the bottom side of the substrate, the wideband CP wave is generated. The overall size of the proposed antenna is 0.85λ × 0.85λ × 0.011λ (λ is the wavelength of the lowest operating frequency) and it has a broad impedance bandwidth of 68.1% between 1.66 and 3.44 GHz for S11 < –10 dB and a 3 dB axial‐ratio bandwidth of 57.1% between 1.68 and 3.06 GHz. Within the axial‐ratio bandwidth, the measured gain of the proposed antenna ranged from 2.1 to 5.4 dBic. The measured results are in good agreement with simulated results. In this article, low-sidelobe cavity-backed slot antenna array with simplified feeding structure for vehicular communication is proposed. Conventional low-sidelobe antennas were realized using power dividing network to obtain the in-phase and nonuniform-amplitude excitation, which causes complicated antenna's structure and design. To tackle these challenges, a simplified feeding method without using power dividing network is introduced to design the low-sidelobe slot antenna array. The slots at the top walls serve as the radiation elements, and the slots are directly fed by the electric field of the cavity mode. Nonuniform amplitude is obtained by simply modifying the slots’ sizes and positions, while the in-phase excitation of the elements is remained. The nonuse of power dividers brings out a simpler antenna structure than conventional full-metal waveguide-based antennas. Besides, the full-metal structure introduces a high power-handling capacity. Then, two linear arrays with 1 × 4, 1 × 7 elements and a planar array with 5×4 elements are presented to show the design feasibility. Finally, the 5 × 4 antenna array is fabricated and measured, which can achieve 18.2 dBi gain, −20 dB sidelobe level, 94% radiation efficiency, and -42 dB cross-polarization. In recent decades, metasurfaces have attracted considerable interest to generate vortex beams, that is, orbital angular momentum (OAM) carrying beams. However, the existing OAM metasurfaces are mostly fixed‐mode or with single function. Here a concept of multifunctional vortex beam generation is proposed, and is realized by a dynamic reflective metasurface which is capable of controlling the vortex beam spatiotemporally. The proposed metasurface has the ability to control OAM mode and to observe rotational Doppler effect. As proof of concept, it is presented that the proposed metasurface can generate an l = −1 or l = +1 OAM mode reconfigurable beam, and an l = +1 spinning OAM beam with rotational Doppler effect. Both simulated and measured results show the effectiveness of the proposed multifunctional OAM metasurface which has two different functionalities. In this article, a class of waveguide bandpass filters (BPFs) is modularly synthesized on dual-mode resonators, which are implemented by the TE102 and TE201 modes in a rectangular cavity. Different from the conventional BPFs, these dual-mode resonators are arrayed in a stacked manner, presenting a transversal topology of BPFs. Therefore, each dual-mode resonator contributes a doublet, and these doublets could be independently realized without nonresonating nodes, due to the modularity property of transversal BPFs. The overall sizes of these transversal BPFs are just half or a fourth of the reported counterparts at the expense of the cavities $Q$ -factor which is reduced 44% or more depending on how many cavities are stacked. A wideband high-efficiency millimeter-wave (mm-wave) circularly polarized (CP) array which is constituted by novel planar substrate integrated waveguide (SIW)-fed S-dipoles is presented in this communication. The proposed mm-wave CP S-dipole consists of two rotational symmetric curved arms and is fed differentially through aperture coupling, which features simple configuration and excellent performance. Detailed analysis is given to explain the operating principles of this element. It is noted that superior element performance including a wide impedance bandwidth of 43%, a wide 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 36%, and 1 dB gain bandwidth of 38% is achieved by the planar SIW-fed S-dipole. By feeding 64 in-phase S-dipole elements through a full-corporate SIW feeding network, a planar wideband highly efficient mm-wave $8 \times 8$ CP array is realized. To verify the design concept, a prototype operating at Ka-band is fabricated and measured. The measurement results indicate that the proposed array achieves a wide overlapped bandwidth of 27.6%, a high antenna gain of 25.2 dBic, and a high aperture efficiency of 89.9%. In this article, a cavity filtering magic-T based on three fundamental modes, namely, TE011, TE101, and TM110, in a single triple-mode resonator (TMR) is presented. Taking advantage of the magic-T concept, two types of cavity-based filtering power dividers (PDs) integrated with balanced and duplexing functions are investigated. For the first design of a balanced-to-unbalanced (B2U) PD, balanced functions are integrated at input ports. Three fundamental modes provide the odd- and even-symmetric field distributions so that in-phase and out-of-phase responses at output ports can be achieved. Meanwhile, the common-mode suppression can be achieved at the balanced ports, and high isolation is achieved at the single-end ports, respectively. For the second design of a duplexing PD, instead of using resistors for output ports isolation, isolated ports are applied for magic-Ts to achieve all ports impedance matched and high isolation between channels of the proposed duplexing PD. To verify the concept, a B2U PD and a duplexing PD are fabricated and tested. Good matching between simulated and measured results shows the accuracy of the proposed design methodologies. In this paper, a new transversal configuration is presented for waveguide bandpass filters (BPFs) on stacked rectangular $ H$ -plane waveguide cavities. Different from the conventional ladder BPFs, cavities constituting the proposed transversal BPFs are arrayed in a stacked manner. Odd- and even-mode resonators of transversal BPF are realized by TE101 and TE102 modes of rectangular $ H$ -plane waveguides, respectively. Using the configuration proposed herein, the realization of an $N$ th-order filter could be decomposed into realizations of $N$ first-order subfilters, and each subfilter could be realized independently, which is guaranteed by the unique array of resonators of transversal filters. Therefore, the complexity of realizing BPFs could be reduced, especially for filters with multiple transmission zeros (TZs). This paper presents the proposal and design of multistate diplexer on uniform- and stepped stub-loaded resonators, that is, a three-state diplexer (TSD) and a four-state diplexer (FSD). The two proposed diplexers have an attractive application in a frequency-hopping system with miniaturization in their overall size. Next, three and four sets of second-order bandpass filters are applied to form the three and four filtering channels, respectively. These filtering channels are then used to comprise these multiple-state diplexers. In this way, compact size and high-frequency selectivity have been well achieved. Abstract: In this article, a double‐T‐shaped stub centrally loaded uniform impedance resonator (UIR) is introduced and its resonant characteristics are well clarified, which provided a simple approach for triple‐mode wideband bandpass filter (BPF) design. The double‐T‐shaped stub consists of a T‐shaped stub at the center of UIR and two shunt uniform‐impedance stubs at the T‐shaped stub. Furthermore, loading technique for zero‐voltage point is employed to guide design procedure from UIR to the proposed resonator. The resonant frequencies of the first three modes for the resonator can be free to adjust by the length of the UIR and the two kinds of stub. Finally, a compact wideband BPF is designed, fabricated, and measured. The measured results are in good agreement with the full‐wave simulation results. The realized wideband filter exhibits a 3 dB fractional bandwidth of 69.1% with good in‐band filtering performance, wide stopband, and sharp out‐of‐band rejection skirt. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article tries to address the unstable radiation pattern issue of the planar‐coupled patch antennas with two different methods. First, characteristic mode analysis (CMA) reveals that the coupled patch antennas generate three characteristic modes with distinctive radiation patterns. A slot‐loading scheme is proposed to reshape the current distribution of the higher mode and reduce its sidelobe level significantly. Then a 13.4% bandwidth with consistent radiation patterns and high gain is achieved by exciting modes 1 and 3 while suppressing unwanted modes with an aperture‐coupled feeding. Second, the radiation pattern stability of the coupled patch antennas is further improved by employing shorted parasitic patches. The presented antenna can be equivalent as the same magnetic current array model under the in‐phase and out‐of‐phase modes, and thus the radiation patterns hardly get changed. Moreover, the non‐radioative nature and high radiation quality factor of the higher mode improve the radiation performance in a new principle. Programmable metasurface, or reconfigurable intelligent surface is one of the most promising strategies to enhance communication and sensing capacities via arrays of reconfigurable meta‐atoms. The functionalities of conventional programmable metasurfaces are usually limited, and active meta‐atoms are connected with steering‐logic board through cables, which makes the whole system inconvenient for installation and stable use. Here an all‐in‐one integrated multifunctional metasurface for various application purpose is proposed. The integration of metasurface and steering‐logic board produces an all‐in‐one system, which makes it compact, low profile, and stable. The novel meta‐atom structure provides all‐in‐one functionalities, including 1) dispersion‐reconfigurable spatial phaser for analogue signal processing, 2) polarization conversion, 3) beam steering and orbital angular momentum generation for high‐speed communication and, 4) near‐field scanning for sensing. The proposed metasurface also has a broadband property, which is operating from 9.5 to 10.5 GHz with 10% relative bandwidth. Such a design integrates functionalities of signal processing, communication, and sensing in a single programmable metasurface, which makes it especially useful for integrated sensing and communication toward next‐generation wireless networks. This communication presents the design of 1 bit coding engineered reflector for wideband monostatic/bistatic radar cross section (RCS) reduction under a wide angle of incidence by redirecting the backscattered electromagnetic (EM) energies into wide and countless angles. The proposed surface can achieve an excellent monostatic/bistatic RCS reduction performance of more than 10 dB over a wide frequency range from 60 to 120 GHz under wide angles of incidence up to 75°. This is achieved by designing a wideband anisotropic polarization rotator unit cell with a relative polarization conversion bandwidth of 66.7% and polarization conversion efficiency of more than 99%. The unit cell and its mirrored version are used to represent the “0” and “1” coding states of an optimized 1 bit coding sequence. The distribution of the “0” and “1” coding states and the dimensions of the anisotropic unit cell are optimized carefully, such that the unit cell will have 180° ± 30° reflection phase difference between the $x$ - and $y$ -axes over the whole three frequency bands (V-, E-, and W-bands) and obtains ultrawideband and wide-angle diffusion scattering patterns under oblique incidence up to 75°. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed coding engineered reflector has nearly uniform diffusive scattering characteristics under normal and wide-angle off-normal incidences of EM waves up to 75° over the three frequency bands. The independent control of two orthogonal polarizations that possess dual functionalities is highly desirable in antenna and wireless communication technologies. Spin-decoupled metasurfaces with integrated dynamic and geometric phases have been proposed to generate two independent right-handed and left-handed circularly polarized (RCP and LCP, respectively) waves. However, the RCP and LCP phases are correlated by a linear equation of the dynamic and geometric phases. In this article, we propose a meta-atom in which the 1 b phase of two orthogonal polarizations can be controlled independently. Moreover, a high-gain broadband millimeter-wave multidimensional metasurface to generate an $x$ -polarized $l=0$ beam with a 10° beam deflection and a $y$ -polarized $l=+1$ beam independently is simulated, fabricated, and tested. The proposed metasurface operating over the frequency range of 16–28 GHz has the maximum gains of 28.7 and 23.8 dBi for the $l=0\,\,x$ -polarized waves and $l=+1\,\,y$ -polarized waves, respectively. Compared with spin-decoupled metasurfaces, the proposed metasurface provides a simpler design process to generate two independent vortex beams for the two orthogonal polarizations. The proposed vortex metasurface also has the advantages of dual polarization, high gain, wide relative bandwidth, and is broadband.
