Abstract Background Coronary distensibility index (CDI), as an early predictor of cardiovascular diseases, has the potential to complement coronary computed tomography angiography (cCTA)-derived fractional flow reserve (CT-FFR) for predicting major adverse cardiac events (MACEs). Thus, the prognostic value of CT-FFR combined with CDI for MACEs is worth exploring. Methods Patients with a moderate or severe single left anterior descending coronary artery stenosis were included and underwent FFR and CDI analysis based on cCTA, followed up at least 1 year, and recorded MACEs. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to determine independent predictors of MACEs. The area under of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluated evaluate the diagnostic performance of CT-FFR, CDI, and a combination of the two. Results All the vessel-specific data were from LAD. 150 patients were analysed. 55 (37%) patients experienced MACEs during follow-up. Abstract It’s a challenge for detecting the therapeutic targets of a polypharmacological drug from variations in the responsed networks in the differentiated populations with complex diseases, as stable coronary heart disease. Here, in an adaptive, 31-center, randomized, double-blind trial involving 920 patients with moderate symptomatic stable angina treated by 14-day Danhong injection(DHI), a kind of polypharmacological drug with high quality control, or placebo (0.9% saline), with 76-day following-up, we firstly confirmed that DHI could increase the proportion of patients with clinically significant changes on angina-frequency assessed by Seattle Angina Questionnaire (ΔSAQ-AF ≥ 20) (12.78% at Day 30, 95% confidence interval [CI] 5.86–19.71%, P = 0.0003, 13.82% at Day 60, 95% CI 6.82–20.82%, P = 0.0001 and 8.95% at Day 90, 95% CI 2.06–15.85%, P = 0.01). We also found that there were no significant differences in new-onset major vascular events (P = 0.8502) and serious adverse events (P = 0.9105) between DHI and placebo. After performing the RNA sequencing in 62 selected patients, we developed a systemic modular approach to identify differentially expressed modules (DEMs) of DHI with the Zsummary value less than 0 compared with the control group, calculated by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), and sketched out the basic framework on a modular map with 25 functional modules targeted by DHI. Furthermore, the effective therapeutic module (ETM), defined as the highest correlation value with the phenotype alteration (ΔSAQ-AF, the change in SAQ-AF at Day 30 from baseline) calculated by WGCNA, was identified in the population with the best effect (ΔSAQ-AF ≥ 40), which is related to anticoagulation and regulation of cholesterol metabolism. We assessed the modular flexibility of this ETM using the global topological D value based on Euclidean distance, which is correlated with phenotype alteration (r 2: 0.8204, P = 0.019) by linear regression. Our study identified the anti-angina therapeutic module in the effective population treated by the multi-target drug. Abstract Background We studied the characteristics and regularity of appropriate insertion points for percutaneous pedicle screw placement in the lumbar spine using C-arm X-ray fluoroscopy. The purpose of this study was to improve the accuracy of percutaneous pedicle screw placement and reduce the incidence of superior-level facet joint violation. Methods Six normal spinal specimens were included. Three different methods for placing percutaneous pedicle screws in the lumbar spine were applied, including the Roy-Camille method, Magerl method and Weinstein method. The relationships among the insertion point, pedicle projection and proximal facet joint on C-arm X-ray films were studied. The projection morphology of the vertebral pedicle in different segments of the lumbar spine was observed. The relationship between the outer edge of the pedicle projection and the outer edge of the cranial articular process was also studied. The distance between the insertion point and the facet joint (M1), the distance between the insertion point and outer edge of the cranial articular process (M2), and the distance between the insertion point and the projection center of the pedicle (M) were measured. Results In this study, we found that the projection shape of the vertebral pedicle differed across segments of the lumbar spine: the shape for L1-L3 was oval, and that for L4-L5 was round. The radiographic study showed that the outer edge of the cranial articular process was located on the lateral side of the outer edge of the pedicle projection and did not overlap with the pedicle projection. Abstract. Background:. Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and its natriuretic peptide receptors A (NPR-A) and C (NPR-C) are involved in the regulation of physiological and pathophysiological process of blood pressure. The present study aimed to determine the role of NPR-C in the development of salt-sensitive hypertension. Methods:. The Dahl salt-sensitive (DS) and salt-resistant (DR) rats were used in this study. Animals were matched according to their age and weight, and then placed on either a high-salt (HS, 8%) or a normal-salt (NS, 0.4%) diet for 6 weeks randomly using random number table. The systolic blood pressure (SBP), plasmatic sodium concentration (PLNa), urinary sodium excretion (UVNa), and serum creatinine concentration (Scr) were measured. The concentration of ANP in blood and tissues (heart and kidney) was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The expression of ANP, NPR-A, and NPR-C in kidney was evaluated with western blot analysis. Regarding renal redox state, the concentration changes in malondialdehyde (MDA), lipofuscin, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase (Nox), and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in kidney were detected by a spectrophotometric method. The kidney damage was evaluated using pathological techniques and the succinodehydrogenase (SDHase) examination. Furthermore, after an intra-peritoneal injection of C-atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP)4–23 (C-ANP4–23), an NPR-C receptor agonist, the SBP, biochemical values in blood and urine, and renal redox state were evaluated. The paired Student's t test and analysis of variance followed by the Bonferroni test were performed for statistical analyses of the comparisons between two groups and multiple groups, respectively. Results:. The baseline SBP in all groups was within the normal range. At the end of the 6-week experiment, HS diet significantly increased the SBP in DS rats from 116.63 ± 2.90 mmHg to 162.25 ± 2.15 mmHg (t = −10.213, P 0.05). Background Vein graft restenosis (VGR), which appears to be caused by dyslipidemia following vascular transplantation, seriously affects the prognosis and long-term quality of life of patients. Methods This study analyzed the genetic data of restenosis (VGR group) and non-stenosis (control group) vessels from patients with coronary heart disease post-vascular transplantation and identified hub genes that might be responsible for its occurrence. GSE110398 was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. A repeatability test for the GSE110398 dataset was performed using R language. This included the identification of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), enrichment analysis via Metascape software, pathway enrichment analysis, and construction of a protein–protein interaction network and a hub gene network. Results Twenty-four DEGs were identified between VGR and control groups. The four most important hub genes ( KIR6.1 , PCLP1 , EDNRB , and BPI ) were identified, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient showed that KIR6.1 and BPI were significantly correlated with VGR. In this paper, eleven high-strength steel tube confined self-stressing concrete (HSTCSC) short columns were tested to study their strengthening mechanism and axial compression performance. The effects of different material strengths, cross-section types, and hollow ratios on the axial mechanical properties of the HSTCSC short columns were investigated using the finite element analysis method. Experimental results highlighted that the HSTCSC short columns presented the waist drum-type failure mode significantly, with a higher axial load-bearing capacity and deformation performance, and possess a large safety reserve. It was also found that the axial compression property of the HSTCSC short column could be improved significantly due to the joint action of the micro-expansion of the self-stressing concrete and the hoop constraint of the high-strength steel tube. Moreover, the circular cross-section HSTCSC short columns were found to result in better mechanical performance after yielding of the high-strength steel tubes, especially entering the strengthening section. Under the condition of equal steel content ratio and cross-section area, the single-layer circular HSTCSC short columns were found to have the largest load-bearing capacities after yielding the high-strength steel tubes, followed by the double-layer circular HSTCSC short columns, and then the double-layer square HSTCSC short columns. The hollow rate of the cross-section could also decrease the load-bearing capacity of the HSTCSC short column with both circular and square sections, although increasing the hollow rate could save material and reduce the weight of the structure. The finite element analysis results showed that the proposed finite element model could be employed to simulate the compressive behavior of HSTCSC short columns with high calculation accuracy.

8. Effects of plasma boundary shape on explosive bursts triggered by tearing mode in toroidal tokamak plasmas with reversed magnetic shear

Numerical research is conducted to investigate the effects of plasma boundary shape on the tearing mode triggering explosive bursts in toroidal tokamak plasmas. In this work, m/n = 2/1 mode is responsible for the triggering of the explosive burst. Plasma boundary shape can be adjusted via the adjustment of the parameters triangularity δ and elongation κ. The investigations are conducted both under low β (close to zero) and under finite β regimes. In the low β regime, triangularity and elongation both have stabilizing effect on the explosive burst and the stabilizing effect of elongation is stronger. Under a large elongation (κ = 2.0), the elongation effect can evidently enhance the stabilizing effect in a positive triangularity regime, but barely affects the stabilizing effect in a negative triangularity regime. In the finite β regime, the explosive burst is delayed in comparison with that in the low β regime. Similar to the low β cases, the effects of triangularity and elongation both are stabilizing. Under a large elongation (κ = 2.0), the elongation effect can evidently enhance the stabilizing effect on the explosive burst in a positive triangularity regime, but impair the stabilizing effect in a negative triangularity regime. The explosive burst disappears in the large triangularity case (δ = 0.5), indicating that the explosive burst can be effectively prevented in experiments via carefully adjusting plasma boundary shape. Moreover, strong magnetic stochasticity appears in the negative triangularity case during the nonlinear phase.

Diabetes and triglyceride are also associated with MACEs.

Objective This paper proposes a new photoacoustic computed tomography (PACT) imaging system employing dual ultrasonic transducers with different frequencies. When imaging complex biological tissues, photoacoustic (PA) signals with multiple frequencies are produced simultaneously; however, due to the limited bandwidth of a single-frequency transducer, the received PA signals with specific frequencies may be missing, leading to a low imaging quality. Methods In contrast to our previous work, the proposed system has a compact volume as well as specific selection of the detection center frequency of the transducer, which can provide a comprehensive range for the detection of PA signals. In this study, a series of numerical simulation and phantom experiments were performed to validate the efficacy of the developed PACT system. Results The images generated by our system combined the advantages of both high resolution and ideal brightness/contrast. Conclusion The interchangeability of transducers with different frequencies provides potential for clinical deployment under the circumstance where a single frequency transducer cannot perform well.

Evaluating the impacts of human activity on river runoff has important implications for regional water resource management. Here, we used seven tree-ring width chronologies to establish a regional mean tree-ring width chronology from the northern mountain of Delingha, Qaidam Basin. We conducted the correlation, moving correlation and regression analysis of regional mean tree-ring width chronology with runoff data from Bayin River gauge station. Then, we stimulated the June runoff of Bayin River from 1956 to 2002. The results showed that the highest correlation coefficient was found for June runoff (评估人类活动对径流的影响,对区域水资源开发管理有借鉴和指导意义。利用柴达木盆地北部山区7个祁连圆柏树轮宽度数据,建立区域平均树轮宽度年表。通过对区域平均树轮宽度年表与巴音河水文站径流量进行相关、滑动相关和回归分析,模拟了巴音河1956—2002年6月天然径流量变化,进而分析出人类活动对径流量的影响。结果表明: 树轮平均年表与6月径流量的相关性最强(

The surface modification of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers with boric acid was utilized to modulate the homogeneity of the radial structure of the PAN fibers during thermal stabilization. Exothermic peaks of the fibers were put off by boric acid, and unreacted nitrile groups of the oxidized PAN fibers increased with the boron content, indicating that boric acid on the fiber surface had an retardant effect on the thermal stabilization of PAN fibers. The relative skin thicknesses of the oxidized PAN fibers were quantitatively measured by sulfuric acid etching and SEM observation. The value increased obviously with the boron content, which could be further elevated by increasing stabilization time or decreasing stabilization temperature. Oxidized PAN fibers with more homogeneous radial structure can thus be obtained with the modification of boric acid, which might be beneficial for the preparation of high performance carbon fibers.

Based on Revit BIM platform and geotechnical exploration borehole data, a method to obtain arbitrary profile data of geological body is proposed. The extraction of attribute data such as profile and lithology of 3D geological body and arbitrary angle cutting plane is realized in the form of plug-in, and the input function of slope stability analysis parameters is developed on the basis of profile model.

The preliminary modeling of topography, bad geological structure and stratum entity based on Civil 3D platform is realized, especially the establishment of landslide and debris flow model in bad geological structure. At the same time, the rapid modeling method of roadbed and tunnel based on Civil 3D component editor is studied.

Background Vein graft restenosis (VGR), which appears to be caused by dyslipidemia following vascular transplantation, seriously affects the prognosis and long-term quality of life of patients. Methods This study analyzed the genetic data of restenosis (VGR group) and non-stenosis (control group) vessels from patients with coronary heart disease post-vascular transplantation and identified hub genes that might be responsible for its occurrence. GSE110398 was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. A repeatability test for the GSE110398 dataset was performed using R language. This included the identification of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), enrichment analysis via Metascape software, pathway enrichment analysis, and construction of a protein–protein interaction network and a hub gene network. Results Twenty-four DEGs were identified between VGR and control groups. The four most important hub genes ( KIR6.1, PCLP1, EDNRB, and BPI) were identified, and Pearson’s correlation coefficient showed that KIR6.1 and BPI were significantly correlated with VGR. KIR6.1 could also sensitively predict VGR (0.9 Conclusion BPI and KIR6.1 were differentially expressed in vessels with and without stenosis after vascular transplantation, suggesting that these genes or their encoded proteins may be involved in the occurrence of VGR.

Large burst activity, identified as toroidal Alfvén eigenmode (TAE) avalanche, occurs frequently in neutral-beam heated plasmas in National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX). Based on the typical experimental observation of TAE avalanche on NSTX, a self-consistent nonlinear multiple wave-number (k ∥ ≃ n/R, where n toroidal mode-number and R major radius) simulation associated with TAE avalanches is performed using the experimental parameters and profiles before the occurrence of TAE avalanche as the M3D-K input. The wave–wave nonlinear coupling among different modes and the resonant interaction between different modes and energetic-ions during TAE avalanches are identified in the nonlinear multiple wave-number simulations. The resonance overlap during the TAE avalanche is clearly observed in the simulation. It is found that the effective wave–wave coupling and a sufficiently strong drive are two important ingredients for the onset of TAE avalanches. TAE avalanche is considered to be a strongly nonlinear process and it is always accompanied by the simultaneous rapid frequency-chirping and large amplitude bursting of multiple modes and significant energetic-ion losses. The experimental phenomenon is observed on NSTX and is qualitatively reproduced by the simulation results in this work. These findings indicate that the onset of avalanche is triggered by nonlinearity of the system, and are also conducive to understanding the underlying mechanism of avalanche transport of energetic particles in the future burning plasmas, such as International Thermonuclear Experiment Reactor.

18. Knockdown long noncoding RNA SLC8A1-AS1 attenuate cell invasion and migration in glioma via suppression of Wnt-β catenin signaling pathways

- Abstract
Background: Glioma, as the most common aggressive malignant tumor in the central nervous system, is still an insurmountable disease in neural system. The potential mechanism of its carcinogenesis remains largely unclear. Methods: In the present study, we identified dysregulated lncRNA solute carrier family 8 member A1 antisense RNA 1 (SLC8A1-AS1) as associated with glioma based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)data. Validation experiment was conducted to confirm a high expression level of lncRNA SLC8A1-AS1 in glioma tissues. Results: Down-regulation of lncRNA SLC8A1-AS1 suppressed proliferation, clone formation, migration and invasion of glioma cells in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, lncRNA SLC8A1-AS1 silencing decreased the activity of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and suppressed the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) in glioma cells. Conclusions: Collectively, these findings provide a novel insights into the function and mechanism of lncRNA SLC8A1-AS1 in the pathogenesis of glioma and highlight its potential as a therapeutic target for glioma intervention.

Background We studied the characteristics and regularity of appropriate insertion points for percutaneous pedicle screw placement in the lumbar spine using C-arm X-ray fluoroscopy. The purpose of this study was to improve the accuracy of percutaneous pedicle screw placement and reduce the incidence of superior-level facet joint violation. Methods Six normal spinal specimens were included. Three different methods for placing percutaneous pedicle screws in the lumbar spine were applied, including the Roy-Camille method, Magerl method and Weinstein method. The relationships among the insertion point, pedicle projection and proximal facet joint on C-arm X-ray films were studied. The projection morphology of the vertebral pedicle in different segments of the lumbar spine was observed. The relationship between the outer edge of the pedicle projection and the outer edge of the cranial articular process was also studied. The distance between the insertion point and the facet joint (M1), the distance between the insertion point and outer edge of the cranial articular process (M2), and the distance between the insertion point and the projection center of the pedicle (M) were measured. Results In this study, we found that the projection shape of the vertebral pedicle differed across segments of the lumbar spine: the shape for L1-L3 was oval, and that for L4-L5 was round. The radiographic study showed that the outer edge of the cranial articular process was located on the lateral side of the outer edge of the pedicle projection and did not overlap with the pedicle projection. M for the Weinstein group was larger than that for the Roy-Camille group (P P Conclusion Under C-arm X-ray fluoroscopy, we were able to accurately identify the characteristics and regularity of the appropriate insertion point for percutaneous pedicle screw placement in the lumbar spine, which was important for improving the accuracy of percutaneous pedicle screw placement and reducing the incidence of superior-level facet joint violation.

- Abstract
The radial distribution of the end-to-end distance R
ee is crucial for quantifying the global size and flexibility of a linear polymer. For semiflexible polymers, several analytical formulas have been derived for the radial distribution of Ree ignoring the stretching flexibility. However, for semiflexible oligomers, such as DNA or RNA, the stretching flexibility can be rather pronounced and can significantly affect the radial distribution of Ree . In this study, we obtained an extended formula that includes the stretch modulus to describe the distribution of Ree for semiflexible oligomers on the basis of previous formulas for semiflexible polymers without stretching flexibility. The extended formula was validated by extensive Monte Carlo simulations over wide ranges of the stretch modulus and persistence length, as well as all-atom molecular dynamics simulations of shortDNAs andRNAs. Additionally, our analyses showed that the effect of stretching flexibility on the distribution of Ree becomes negligible for DNAs longer than ~130 base pairs and RNAs longer than ~240 base pairs. To predict RNA 3D structures and stability, we have previously proposed a three-bead coarse-grained predictive model with implicit salt/solvent potentials. In this study, we will further develop the model by improving the implicit-salt electrostatic potential and involving a sequence-dependent coaxial stacking potential to enable the model to simulate RNA 3D structure folding in divalent/monovalent ion solutions. Background: The robotic technique has been established as an alternative approach to laparoscopy for colorectal surgery. The aim of this study was to compare the short-term outcomes of robot-assisted and laparoscopic surgery in colorectal cancer.Methods: The cases of robot-assisted or laparoscopic colorectal resection were collected retrospectively between July 2015 and September 2018. We evaluated patient demographics, perioperative characteristics, and pathologic examinations. Short-term outcomes included time to passage of flatus and length of postoperative hospital stay.Results: A total of 580 patients were included in the study. There were 271 patients in the robotic colorectal surgery (RCS) group and 309 in the laparoscopic colorectal surgery (LCS) group. The time to passage of flatus in the RCS group was 3.62 days shorter than the LCS group. The total costs were increased by 2,258.8 USD in the RCS group compared to the LCS group (P < 0.001).Conclusion: The present study suggests that colorectal cancer robotic surgery was more beneficial to patients because of a shorter postoperative recovery time of bowel function and shorter hospital stays. To observe the open angle (OA), cervical curvature angle (CA), preoperative spinal cord compression rate(PSCR), postoperative spinal cord shift (PSCS) in patients with chronic compressive cervical myelopathy undergoing C3-7 single open laminoplasty, and to explore the possible mechanism and influencing factors of postoperative average spinal cord drift, so as to provide objective basis for predicting PSCS.From May 2012 to July 2016, 32 patients with multi-segmental chronic compressive cervical myelopathy who underwent single-door laminoplasty in our department were analyzed retrospectively, including 14 cases of cervical spondylotic myelopathy, 8 cases of developmental cervical spinal stenosis with cervical myelopathy, and 10 cases of ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament. The OA of cervical spine was measured on CT, the CA was measured on X-ray, the PSCR and PSCS were measured on MRI. The patients were divided into two groups according to PSCS(group A=2.5 mm, group B2.5 mm). In the group A, there were 11 males and 6 females, with an average age of (56.58±9.80) years old, a mean course of the disease of (23.52±7.86) months; while in group B, there were 6 males and 9 females, with an average age of (58.46±12.53) years old, a mean course of disease of (21.13±7.75) months. The correlation analysis between PSCS and OA, CA and PSCR was performed, and multiple linear analysis of correlated parameters was carried out.The OA in group A was (40.47±9.45) °, in group B was (27.84±5.67) °. The OA in group A was higher than that in group B (PSCS is the result of OA, CA and PSCR, among which PSCR has the most important influence, OA is the second, CA is the least. PSCS can be predicted by 0.059×OA+0.113×PSCR-2.266 equation, which provides a theoretical basis for preoperative evaluation of spinal cord decompression after surgery.

To explore the influencing factors and possible mechanism of axial symptoms(AS) after C₃-C₇ single open-door laminoplasty in patients with chronic compression cervical myelopathy.The clinical data of 32 patients with multi-segment chronic compression cervical cord disease treated by C₃-C₇ single open-door laminectomy from May 2012 to July 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. Including cervical spondylotic myelopathy of 14 cases, developmental cervical stenosis complicated with cervical myelopathy of 8 cases, ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament(OPLL) of 10 cases. There were 17 males and 15 females, aged from 47 to 82 years old with an average of 57.46 year, the course of disease was 5 to 35 months with an average of 22.4 months. The opening angle(OA), cervical curvature angle(CA), preoperative spinal cord compression rate(PSCR) and postoperative spinal cord shift (PSCS) were recorded. After 2 weeks of surgery, determining whether occurred an AS condition according to the AS assessment criteria, the patients were divided into a axial symptom group and a non-axial symptom group, the general data and imaging parameters of the two groups were compared and the factors that may be postoperative AS were analyzed by binary Logistic regression analysis.At 2 weeks after operation, 13 patients occurred AS. There was no significant difference in gender, age and course of disease between axial symptom group and a non-axial symptom group (CA, PSCR, and PSCS are related influencing factors of AS, and PSCS is a high risk factor for AS. C₄,₅ nerve traction caused by posterior spinal movement, postoperative dural self-expansion causes greater traction of the spinal cord, excessive deformation of the cervical spinal cord causes autonomic nerve damage or necrosis that dominates blood vessels may be the pathogenesis of AS, but this is only a theoretical inference, and further improved experiment is necessary to verify it in the future.

The N-myc downstream regulated gene (Ndrg) family consists of four main members Ndrg1, 2, 3, and 4. The Ndrg genes are involved in many vital biological events including development. However, comprehensive expression patterns of this gene family during vertebrate embryogenesis remain largely unknown. Here, we analyzed the Ndrg family from the evolutionary perspective and examined the expression patterns of the Ndrg genes during Xenopus tropicalis embryogenesis. Different Ndrg family members of vertebrates are separated into different homology clusters which can be further classified into two groups and each Ndrg family member is well conserved during evolution. The temporal and spatial expression patterns of Ndrg1, 2, 3 and 4 are different during early Xenopus tropicalis development. Ndrg1, 2 and 4 are maternally expressed genes while Ndrg3 is a zygotically expressed gene. The Ndrg genes are differentially expressed in the developing central nervous system, the developing sensory organs, and the developing excretory organs. Moreover, they also show other specific expression domains. Our results indicate that the Ndrg genes exhibit specific expression patterns and may play different roles during vertebrate embryogenesis.

In our efforts to investigate the relationships between the metal ions and the structures of their complexes based on N-donor ligand, 1-(4-pyridylmethyl)-1H-benzimidazole (L), and their complexes [Ag(L)(ClO4)]n (1),{[Cu(L)2 (ClO4)2](H2O)2}n (2) were synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Structural analyses show that 1 possess one-dimensional (1D) double helix chain structure, which further forms two-dimensional supramolecular framework connected by Ag···Ag and Ag···O weak interactions. When the metal ion was changed to Cu(II), 2 was obtained, which shows a two-fold interpenetrating three-dimensional diamond network. The results show that the metal ions and weak interactions play important roles in the construction of such coordination architectures. This study aimed to investigate whether β-amyloid (Aβ) was able to enhance neurocan expression in a Sox9 dependent manner in astrocytes.Astrocytes were incubated with Aβ at different concentrations, the expression of Sox9 and neurocan was detected by Western blot assay. Meanwhile, the viability and proliferation of astrocytes were assessed by MTT assay. Then, the Sox9 expression was silenced, and the expression of Sox9 and neurocan was examined.After incubation with Aβ, the viability of astrocytes was increased regardless silencing of Sox9 (all P0.05). The proliferation of astrocytes was also gradually increased with the increase in the time of Aβ incubation (all P0.05). With the increase in Aβ concentration, the expression of Sox9 and neurocan was also increased (all P0.05). However, after silencing of Sox9 expression, the neurocan expression was significantly reduced as compared to control group and scra-siRNA group (all P0.05).Our study shows the viability and proliferation of astrocytes are significantly increased by Aβ in a dose dependent manner. Moreover, Aβ may effectively up-regulate the neurocan expression via regulating Sox9.

The effective pair interactions between two polyelectrolytes have been investigated extensively, but the many-body effect for multiple polyelectrolytes still remains elusive. In this work, the many-body effect in potential of mean force (PMF) between like-charged nanoparticles in various salt solutions has been comprehensively examined by Monte Carlo simulation and the nonlinear Poisson-Boltzmann theory. Our calculations show that, at high 1:1 salt, the PMF is weakly repulsive and appears additive, while at low 1:1 salt, the additive assumption overestimates the repulsive many-body PMF. At low 2:2 salt, the pair PMF appears weakly repulsive while the many-body PMF can become attractive. In contrast, at high 2:2 salt, the pair PMF is apparently attractive while the many-body effect can cause a weaker attractive PMF than that from the additive assumption. To clarify altitudinal gradient of subtropical forest soil total nitrogen and organic nitrogen, soil samples were collected per 10 cm on soil profile (0-100 cm) in Dawei Mountain, researched the variation of soil organic nitrogen and correlation with soil physical and chemical properties. The results showed that: (1) Total nitrogen, acid hydrolysable organic nitrogen and soluble organic nitrogen decreased with the increase of depth, content of each component in mountain granite yellow-brown soils was much higher affected by altitude; (2) The average percentage of soil organic nitrogen to total nitrogen was 97.39% ± 1.17%, and soil acid hydrolysable organic nitrogen was 64.38% ± 10.68%, each component decreased with the increase of soil depth; (3) Soil soluble organic nitrogen content was 9.92- 23.45 mg x kg(-1), free amino acids (1.62 - 12.02 mg x kg(-1)) accounted for about 27.36% ± 9.95% of soluble organic nitrogen; (4) Soil acid hydrolysable organic nitrogen and soluble organic nitrogen were significantly positively correlated with total nitrogen, total soluble nitrogen and inorganic nitrogen (P0.05), were highly significantly correlated with soil bulk density, organic carbon, and total phosphorus (P0.01). Organic nitrogen was the main body of soil nitrogen in typical subtropical forest, each component showed a downward trend increase with soil depth affected by altitude and soil physical and chemical properties. There was a close conversion relationship between soil organic nitrogen and other nitrogen forms, the characteristics of soil organic nitrogen will have profound impact on nitrogen cycling of forest ecological system.

Ion-mediated interaction is critical to the structure and stability of nucleic acids. Recent experiments suggest that the multivalent ion-induced aggregation of double-stranded (ds) RNAs and DNAs may strongly depend on the topological nature of helices, while there is still lack of an understanding on the relevant ion-mediated interactions at atomistic level. In this work, we have directly calculated the potentials of mean force (PMF) between two dsRNAs and between two dsDNAs in Cobalt Hexammine ion (Co-Hex) solutions by the atomistic molecular dynamics simulations. Our calculations show that at low [Co-Hex], the PMFs between B-DNAs and between A-RNAs are both (strongly) repulsive.However, at high [Co-Hex], the PMF between B-DNAs is strongly attractive, while those between A-RNAs and between A-DNAs are still (weakly) repulsive. The microscopic analyses show that for A-form helices, Co-Hex would become internal binding into the deep major groove and consequently cannot form the evident ion-bridge between adjacent helices, while for B-form helices without deep grooves, Co-Hex would exhibit external binding to strongly bridge adjacent helices. In addition, our further calculations show that, the PMF between A-RNAs could become strongly attractive either at very high [Co-Hex] or when the bottom of deep major groove is fixed with a layer of water.

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to refine clinical risk factor stratification and make an optimal intervention plan to prevent ischemic stroke. MATERIAL/METHODS Clinical data, including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) findings, were collected in a cohort of hospitalized transient ischemic attack (TIA) patients from January 2010 to December 2011. Recurrent cerebrovascular events after TIA, including recurrent TIA, minor stroke, and major stroke, were identified by face-to-face follow-up. A multivariate, ordinal, logistic regression model was used to determine significant predictors of recurrent events. RESULTS Of 106 TIA patients, 24 (22.6%) had recurrent TIA and 20 (18.9%) had a stroke within 7 days. Original Article - Abstract
Synaptophysin (SYP) is a synaptic vesicle membrane protein and involved in the release of neurotransmitters, synaptic plasticity, and formation and recycling of synaptic vesicles. SYP may serve as a specific marker of synaptic proteins. Our results showed high glucose and hypoxia could significantly impair the intelligence and the SYP level was positively related to the degree of intelligence in animals. Ubiquitination may influence the SYP expression. In our study, an ubiquitination inhibitor (MG-132) was injected intraperitoneally. Results showed this could increase SYP expression in the brain to improve the intelligent drop due to high glucose and hypoxia in animals. SYP ubiquitination is closely associated with E3 ubiquitin ligase, a mammalian homologue of seven in absentia. In our study, lentivirus expressing siah shRNA was injected into the cerebral ventricle to down-regulate siah expression, and results showed the SYP expression in the brain increased markedly. In addition, we also found that VitK3 could increase the SYP expression in the brain to improve the intelligent drop due to high glucose and hypoxia.

The N-myc downstream regulated gene (Ndrg) family consists of four main members Ndrg1, 2, 3, and 4. The Ndrg genes are involved in many vital biological events including development. However, comprehensive expression patterns of this gene family during vertebrate embryogenesis remain largely unknown. Here, we analyzed the Ndrg family from the evolutionary perspective and examined the expression patterns of the Ndrg genes during Xenopus tropicalis embryogenesis. Different Ndrg family members of vertebrates are separated into different homology clusters which can be further classified into two groups and each Ndrg family member is well conserved during evolution. The temporal and spatial expression patterns of Ndrg1, 2, 3 and 4 are different during early Xenopus tropicalis development. Ndrg1, 2 and 4 are maternally expressed genes while Ndrg3 is a zygotically expressed gene. The Ndrg genes are differentially expressed in the developing central nervous system, the developing sensory organs, and the developing excretory organs. Moreover, they also show other specific expression domains. Our results indicate that the Ndrg genes exhibit specific expression patterns and may play different roles during vertebrate embryogenesis. The effect of energetic-ions on magnetohydrodynamic instabilities is pivotal in the basic physics that will be vital in burning plasma experiments. Recently, it has been found in the HL-2A tokamak that an m/n = 2/1 unstable tearing mode (TM) interacts with energetic-ions, resulting in amplitude-bursting and frequency-chirping fishbone-like activities, and it is numerically identified that the co-passing energetic-ions play a dominant role in the wave-particle resonances (Chen et al 2019 Nucl. Fusion59 096037). Motivated by fully and deeply understanding such a resonant interaction between energetic-ions and TM, a more detailed study of global nonlinear hybrid kinetic-MHD simulations with M3D-K code is performed in the present work. The kinetic effect of co-passing energetic-ions from non-adiabatic response is interestingly found to be strongly destabilizing, while the net effect with both adiabatic and non-adiabatic contributions is weakly destabilizing. For passing energetic-ions, the m/n = 2/1 TM is found to be most unstable in the case of , where q0 is the central safety factor. Effects of energetic-ion beta and pinch angle determining different energetic-ion fractions on the resonance features, such as the growth rate, frequency chirping and mode structure, are discussed in detail. The relevant simulation results are consistent with the observations on HL-2A. Furthermore, the effects of both counter-passing and trapped energetic-ions on the TM have also been explored, but the corresponding resonance phase space is found to be very narrow in the plane. In addition, the redistribution and loss induced by the resonant interaction between TM and energetic-ions are analyzed in multiple-mode simulations. Significant redistribution and loss are clearly observed, and the scaling of energetic-ion loss fraction with the fluctuation amplitude is found to be , indicating that the loss is convective. These discoveries are conducive to understanding the mechanisms of TM-induced energetic-ion loss through the resonant interaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recombination of Ar
14+ , Ar15+ , Ca16+ , and Ni19+ ions with electrons has been investigated at low energy range based on the merged-beam method at the main cooler storage ring CSRm in the Institute of Modern Physics, Lanzhou, China. For each ion, the absolute recombination rate coefficients have been measured with electron–ion collision energies from 0 meV to 1000 meV which include the radiative recombination (RR) and also dielectronic recombination (DR) processes. In order to interpret the measured results, RR cross sections were obtained from a modified version of the semi-classical Bethe and Salpeter formula for hydrogenic ions. DR cross sections were calculated by a relativistic configuration interaction method using the flexible atomic code (FAC) and AUTOSTRUCTURE code in this energy range. The calculated RR + DR rate coefficients show a good agreement with the measured value at the collision energy above 100 meV. However, large discrepancies have been found at low energy range especially below 10 meV, and the experimental results show a strong enhancement relative to the theoretical RR rate coefficients. For the electron–ion collision energy below 1 meV, it was found that the experimentally observed recombination rates are higher than the theoretically predicted and fitted rates by a factor of 1.5 to 3.9. The strong dependence of RR rate coefficient enhancement on the charge state of the ions has been found with the scaling rule of q3.0 , reproducing the low-energy recombination enhancement effects found in other previous experiments. We experimentally observe the signature of electron emission resulting from a single binary encounter mechanism in the intermediate collision energy regime of 30 keV/u He2+ on argon. Electron emission spectra in the transfer ionization are obtained and compared with classical calculations from a two-step model considering the initial electron velocity and re-scattering of the binary encounter electron in the recoil potential. Although the present reaction is actually a four-body problem, the model starting from a binary encounter gives out surprisingly good agreement with the experimental data. Our studies show that orbital velocities of the electron affect the emission patterns of ionized electrons significantly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
