Abstract

An eight-cavity, 1.3 GHz, SLAC linac coherent light source II High Energy cryomodule was assembled and tested at Fermilab to verify performance before the start of production. Its cavities were processed with a novel nitrogen doping treatment to improve gradient performance. The cryomodule was tested with a modified protocol to process sporadic quenches, which were observed in Linac Coherent Light Source II production cryomodules and are attributed to multipacting. Dedicated vertical test experiments support the attribution to multipacting. The verification cryomodule achieved an acceleration voltage of 200 MV in continuous wave mode, corresponding to an average accelerating gradient of 24.1 MV/m, significantly exceeding the specification of 173 MV. The average Q_{0} (3.0×10^{10}) also exceeded its specification (2.7×10^{10}). After processing, no field emission was observed up to the maximum gradient of each cavity. This paper reviews the cryomodule performance and discusses operational issues and mitigations implemented during the several month program.

2. Supplementation of infants with water

Abstract

In accordance with modern recommendations, healthy exclusively breastfed children do not need routine administration of additional fluid. The addition of healthy full-term newborns can lead to less active sucking of the baby, a decrease in lactation. Experts believe that additional drinking can be dangerous for children due to the development of diseases associated with the use of low-quality water. However, there are clinical situations where infants may need additional fluid. Supplementation of an infant can be indicated with a large decrease in body weight, conditions and diseases with an increase in body temperature above 38.0 °C, with dehydration, polycythemia, uric acid infarction, the use of radiant heat and phototherapy. Additional liquid injection to an infant may be advisable at elevated air temperature and low humidity in the room. Compliance with the drinking regime is important in infants with intestinal infections, overweight and constipation. In each case, the issue is resolved individually and the weight of the child, the degree of maturity, the compliance of anthropometry with the gestation period, the presence of exicosis and metabolic disorders are taken into account. In all cases, the child is offered boiled water. The keyword is "suggested". If the baby is willing to drink, then it means he needs extra fluid. Additional soldering is carried out from a spoon or syringe. The recommended amount of drinking per day corresponds to the volume of one feeding.

3. Liquid and dry infant formula: advantages and disadvantages

Abstract

The article presents a comparison of liquid and dry infant formula. The main difference between liquid and dry infant formula is that liquid mixtures are a sterile product, and dry mixtures are a non-sterile product. The sterility of the mixture is important for premature and underweight children, sick infants and children with weakened immunity. The dry mixture can be infected with Enterobacter sakazakii and Salmonella enterica bacteria, which cause diseases in children. In addition to sterility, there are other differences between liquid and dry formulas. Advantages of liquid mixtures: the mixture is ready for use, no water is required for cooking, dilution errors are excluded, saving time and labor. Disadvantages of liquid mixtures: limited assortment, short shelf life, the presence of protein glycation, there are no probiotics in the composition. Advantages of dry mixes: a wide range, the possibility of introducing probiotics, a long shelf life. Disadvantages of dry mixes: the product is not sterile, water is needed, dilution errors are possible, time spent on preparation. There is a gradual increase in demand for liquid ready-made infant formula all over the world. Currently, liquid mixtures for healthy children and premature infants are offered on our market. The domestic manufacturer produces unique liquid therapeutic formulas: comfort, soy and lactose-free mixture.

4. Review of the application piezoelectric actuators for SRF cavity tuners

Abstract

Modern particle accelerators and high-energy physics experiments that deployed up to several hundred of accelerating superconducting RF cavities require accurate frequency control. This is achieved by using cavity tuners typically actuated with the piezoelectric ceramic actuators. Piezoelectric ceramic actuators have become "standard" components of the SRF cavity tuner and depending on the application could be operated in different environments: in air, at cryogenic temperature, in vacuum, and submerged in liquid helium. Different applications place different requirements on the piezo actuators, but the important parameters common to all applications are the lifetime and reliability of the actuators. Abstract

We present results on dijet production via hard color-singlet exchange in proton-antiproton collisions at √s = 630 GeV and 1800 GeV using the DØ detector. The fraction of dijet events produced via color-singlet exchange is measured as a function of jet transverse energy, separation in pseudorapidity between the two highest transverse energy jets, and proton-antiproton center-of-mass energy. The results are consistent with a color-singlet fraction that increases with an increasing fraction of quark-initiated processes and inconsistent with two-gluon models for the hard color-singlet. © 1998 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Abstract

Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79 pb-1, D0 has searched for events containing multiple jets and large missing transverse energy in pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Observing no significant excess beyond what is expected from the standard model, we set limits on the masses of squarks and gluinos and on the model parameters m_0 and m_1/2, in the framework of the minimal low-energy supergravity models of supersymmetry. For tan(beta) = 2 and A_0 = 0, with mu < 0, we exclude all models with m_squark < 250 GeV/c^2. Abstract

We present a measurement of the Drell-Yan cross section at high dielectron invariant mass using 120/pb of data collected in pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV by the D0 collaboration during 1992-96. No deviation from standard model expectations is observed. We use the data to set limits on the energy scale of quark-electron compositeness with common constituents. The 95% confidence level lower limits on the compositeness scale vary between 3.3 TeV and 6.1 TeV depending on the assumed form of the effective contact interaction., 6 pages, 2 figures, submitted to PRL

Abstract

The DZERO detector is used to study proton-antiproton collisions at the 1800 GeV and 630 GeV center-of-mass energies available at the Fermilab Tevatron. To measure jets, the detector uses a sampling calorimeter composed of uranium and liquid argon as the passive and active media respectively. Understanding the jet energy calibration is not only crucial for precision tests of QCD, but also for the measurement of particle masses and the determination of physics backgrounds associated with new phenomena. This paper describes the energy calibration of jets observed with the DZERO detector at the two proton-antiproton center-of-mass energies in the transverse energy and pseudorapidity range ET>8 GeV and pseudorapidity, 94 pages with 52 figures (included in the 94 pages)

Abstract

Many modern and future particle accelerators employ high gradient superconducting RF (SRF) to generate beams of high energy, high intensity and high brightness for research in high energy and nuclear physics, basic energy sciences, etc. In this paper we report the record performance large-scale SRF system with average beam accelerating gradient matching the International Linear Collider (ILC) specification of 31.5 MV m−1. Design of the eight cavity 1.3 GHz SRF cryomodule, its performance without the beam and results of the system commissioning with high intensity electron beam at Fermilab Accelerator Science and Technology (FAST) facility are presented. We also briefly discuss opportunities for further beam studies and tests at FAST including those on even higher gradient and more efficient SRF acceleration, as well as exploration of the system performance with full ILC-type beam specifications. Abstract

We conduct the first "light-shining-through-wall" (LSW) search for dark photons using two state-of-the-art high-quality-factor superconducting radio frequency (SRF) cavities -Dark SRF-and report the results of its pathfinder run. Our new experimental setup enables improvements in sensitivity over previous searches and covers new dark photon parameter space. We design delicate calibration and measurement protocols to utilize the high-Q setup at Dark SRF. Using cavities operating at 1.3 GHz, we establish a new exclusion limit for kinetic mixing as small as ε=1.6×10^{-9} and provide the world's best constraints on dark photons in the 2.1×10^{-7}-5.7×10^{-6}  eV mass range. Our result is the first proof of concept for the enabling role of SRF cavities in LSW setups, with ample opportunities for further improvements. In addition, our data set a competitive lab-based limit on the standard model photon mass by searching for longitudinal photon polarization.
