Abstract Aqueous Zn-I flow batteries utilizing low-cost porous membranes are promising candidates for high-power-density large-scale energy storage. However, capacity loss and low Coulombic efficiency resulting from polyiodide cross-over hinder the grid-level battery performance. Here, we develop colloidal chemistry for iodine-starch catholytes, endowing enlarged-sized active materials by strong chemisorption-induced colloidal aggregation. The size-sieving effect effectively suppresses polyiodide cross-over, enabling the utilization of porous membranes with high ionic conductivity. The developed flow battery achieves a high-power density of 42 mW cm−2 at 37.5 mA cm−2 with a Coulombic efficiency of over 98% and prolonged cycling for 200 cycles at 32.4 Ah L−1 posolyte (50% state of charge), even at 50 °C. Furthermore, the scaled-up flow battery module integrating with photovoltaic packs demonstrates practical renewable energy storage capabilities. Cost analysis reveals a 14.3 times reduction in the installed cost due to the applicability of cheap porous membranes, indicating its potential competitiveness for grid energy storage.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs), secreted by most cells, act as natural cell-derived carriers for delivering proteins, nucleic acids, and organelles between cells. Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles responsible for energy production and cellular physiological processes. Recent evidence has highlighted the pivotal role of EVs in intercellular mitochondrial content transfer, including mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), proteins, and intact mitochondria. Intriguingly, mitochondria are crucial mediators of EVs release, suggesting an interplay between EVs and mitochondria and their potential implications in physiology and pathology. However, in this expanding field, much remains unknown regarding the function and mechanism of crosstalk between EVs and mitochondria and the transport of mitochondrial EVs. Herein, we shed light on the physiological and pathological functions of EVs and mitochondria, potential mechanisms underlying their interactions, delivery of mitochondria-rich EVs, and their clinical applications in regenerative medicine.

Background: To explore the median effective dose (ED50) and 95% effective dose (ED95) of remimazolam besylate combined with alfentanil for adult gastroscopy. Methods: This prospective studyenrolled 31 patients scheduled to painless gastroscopy at Anhui No. 2 Provincial People's Hospital between April and May, 2022. 5 µg.kg−1 of alfentanil hydrochloride was used for pre-analgesia. The initial single loading dose of remimazolam besylate was 0.12 mg.kg−1, increased or reduced by 0.01 mg.kg−1 for the next patient with modified Dixon sequential method. The modified Observer's Assessment of Alertness/Sedation Scale (MOAA/S) was used to assess sedation. Results: Combined with alfentanil, the ED50 of remimazolam besylate was 0.147 mg.kg−1 (95% CI: 0.138-0.160 mg.kg−1) and ED95 0.171 mg.kg−1 (95% CI: 0.159-0.245 mg.kg−1). The induction time after injection of remimazolam besylate was 70 ± 25 s, with the anesthesia recovery time and the observation time in resuscitation room 5.13 ± 2.13 min and 2.32 ± 1.6 min, respectively. Twenty nine patients’ vital signs were within acceptable limits during gastroscopy. Conclusions: The ED50 of remimazolam besylate combined with alfentanil for painless gastroscopy was 0.147 mg.kg−1, and the ED95 was 0.171 mg.kg−1.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a single-stranded RNA virus with a capsid membrane that causes acute infectious gastrointestinal disease characterized by vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration in swine. Piglets are more susceptible to PEDV than adults, with an infection rate reaching 90% and a fatality rate as high as 100%. Moreover, PEDV has a rapid transmission rate and broad transmission range. Consequently, PEDV has caused considerable economic losses and negatively impacted the sustainability of the pig industry. The surface spike (S) glycoprotein is the largest structural protein in PEDV virions and is closely associated with host cell fusion and virus invasion. As such, the S protein is an important target for vaccine development. In this article, we review the genetic variation, immunity, apoptosis-induction function, virulence, vaccine potential, and other aspects of the PEDV S protein. This review provides a theoretical foundation for preventing and controlling PEDV infection and serves as a valuable resource for further research and development of PEDV vaccines.

In this paper, we numerically investigate the concealing properties of time delay signature (TDS) in the chaotic output of a ring network composed of three mutually coupled semiconductor nano-lasers, comparing the TDS evolution between a ring network with identical coupling delays and a ring network with heterogeneous coupling delays. In simulations, an autocorrelation function is introduced to assess the system’s capability in concealing the TDS. By examining the impacts of system parameters such as coupling strength, frequency detuning, Purcell factor ${F}$ , spontaneous radiation coupling factor $\beta $ , and bias current ${I}$ on the concealment of TDS, we identify the parameter ranges that successfully conceal TDS. The findings indicate that, compared to ring networks featuring identical coupling delays, those with heterogeneous delays can conceal TDS over a broader parameter range. Additionally, ${F}$ moderately and $\beta $ relatively small can expand the region of TDS concealment, while the influence of ${I}$ on TDS is relatively negligible in the ring network with heterogeneous delays.

Based on the Hodgkin–Huxley theory, this paper establishes several nonlinear system models, analyzes the models’ stability, and studies the conditions for repetitive discharge of neuronal membrane potential. Our dynamic analysis showed that the main channel currents (the fast transient sodium current, the potassium delayed rectifier current, and the fixed leak current) of a neuron determine its dynamic properties and that the GHK formula will greatly widen the stimulation current range of the repetitive discharge condition compared with the Nernst equation. The model including the change in ion concentration will lead to spreading depression (SD)-like depolarization, and the inclusion of a Na-K pump will weaken the current stimulation effect by decreasing the extracellular K accumulation. The results indicate that the Hodgkin–Huxley model is suitable for describing the response to initial stimuli, but due to changes in ion concentration, it is not suitable for describing the response to long-term stimuli.

Abstract The electrochemical–mechanical degradation of ultrahigh Ni cathode for lithium‐ion batteries is a crucial aspect that limits the cycle life and safety of devices. Herein, the study reports a facile strategy involving rational design of primary grain crystallographic orientation within polycrystalline cathode, which well enhanced its electro‐mechanical strength and Li+ transfer kinetics. Ex situ and in situ experiments/simulations including cross‐sectional particle electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), single‐particle micro‐compression, thermogravimetric analysis combined with mass spectrometry (TGA‐MS), and finite element modeling reveal that, the primary‐grain‐alignment strategy effectively mitigates the particle pulverization, lattice oxygen release thereby enhances battery cycle life and safety. Besides the preexisting doping and coating methodologies to improve the stability of Ni‐rich cathode, the primary‐grain‐alignment strategy, with no foreign elements or heterophase layers, is unprecedently proposed here. The results shed new light on the study of electrochemical–mechanical strain alleviation for electrode materials.

ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to evaluate whether preoperative radiomics features could meliorate risk stratification for the overall survival (OS) of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.MethodsAfter rigorous screening, the 208 NSCLC patients without any pre-operative adjuvant therapy were eventually enrolled. We segmented the 3D volume of interest (VOI) based on malignant lesion of computed tomography (CT) imaging and extracted 1542 radiomics features. Interclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and LASSO Cox regression analysis were utilized to perform feature selection and radiomics model building. In the model evaluation phase, we carried out stratified analysis, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, concordance index (C-index), and decision curve analysis (DCA). In addition, integrating the clinicopathological trait and radiomics score, we developed a nomogram to predict the OS at 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years, respectively.ResultsSix radiomics features, including gradient_glcm_InverseVariance, logarithm_firstorder_Median, logarithm_firstorder_RobustMeanAbsoluteDeviation, square_gldm_LargeDependenceEmphasis, wavelet_HLL_firstorder_Kurtosis, and wavelet_LLL_firstorder_Maximum, were selected to construct the radiomics signature, whose areas under the curve (AUCs) for 3-year prediction reached 0.857 in the training set (n=146) and 0.871 in the testing set (n=62). The results of multivariate analysis revealed that the radiomics score, radiological sign, and N stage were independent prognostic factors in NSCLC. Moreover, compared with clinical factors and the separate radiomics model, the established nomogram exhibited a better performance in predicting 3-year OS.ConclusionsOur radiomics model may provide a promising non-invasive approach for preoperative risk stratification and personalized postoperative surveillance for resectable NSCLC patients.

This study investigated the effects of ultrasonication treatment on the germination rate of brown rice. Brown rice grains were subjected to ultrasound (40 kHz/30 min) and then incubated for 36 h at 37 °C to germinate the seeds. Ultrasonic treatment increased the germination rate of brown rice by up to ∼28 % at 30 h. Transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses were performed to explore the mechanisms underlying the effect of ultrasonic treatment on the brown rice germination rate. Comparing the treated and control check samples, 867 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, including 638 upregulated and 229 downregulated), as well as 498 differentially accumulated metabolites (DAMs), including 422 up accumulated and 76 down accumulated. Multi-omics analysis revealed that the germination rate of brown rice was promoted by increased concentrations of low-molecular metabolites (carbohydrates and carbohydrate conjugates, fatty acids, amino acids, peptides, and analogues), and transcription factors (ARR-B, NAC, bHLH and AP2/EREBP families) as well as increased carbon metabolism. These findings provide new insights into the mechanisms of action of ultrasound in improving the brown rice germination rate and candidate DEGs and DAMs responsible for germination have been identified.

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the progress and challenges of a hearing screening program as well as review the incidence of pediatric hearing loss in grade school children participating in this program. Methods Medical students from the University of Ottawa established iHear, a grade school hearing assessment program that uses novel tablet audiometry. Over 3 years, children in grades 1 and 2 were assessed and those found to have abnormal results on iHear assessment were then referred to audiology for formal testing, and to otolaryngology if needed. Results From 2014 to 2017, 753 children aged 5–9 years old were assessed for hearing loss. Mean age of participants was 6.7 years, 51.9% of whom were female. Of the children assessed, 86 (11.4%) had abnormal results and 6 (0.8%) had inconsistent results, necessitating 92 referrals for assessment by a professional audiologist. Of the 65 participants who completed secondary audiologic assessment, 54 (83.1%) were normal and 11 (16.9%) had a definitive hearing loss or abnormal tympanometry. A total of 32 children were lost to follow-up. A total of 118 medical students were involved in the iHear program. Conclusions Hearing loss in grade school populations continues to go undetected across Canada. Programs such as iHear demonstrate that gaps in the provision of hearing assessment can be filled effectively by medical students equipped with tablet audiometry. Medical student exposure to audiology and otolaryngology increased through the iHear program. Graphical Abstract

The difference of Zagreb indices of a graph G is defined as ΔM(G)=∑u∈V(G)(d(u))2−∑uv∈E(G)d(u)d(v), where d(x) denotes the degree of a vertex x in G. A Halin graph G is a graph that results from a plane tree T without vertices of degree two and with at least one vertex of degree at least three such that all leaves are joined through a cycle C in the embedded order. In this paper, we establish both lower and upper bounds on the difference of Zagreb indices for general Halin graphs and some special Halin graphs with fewer inner vertices. Furthermore, extremal graphs attaining related bounds are found.

Abstract Making timely assessments of disease progression in patients with COVID-19 could help offer the best personalized treatment. The purpose of this study was to explore an effective model to predict the outcome of patients with COVID-19. We retrospectively included 188 patients (124 in the training set and 64 in the test set) diagnosed with COVID-19. Patients were divided into aggravation and improvement groups according to the disease progression. Three kinds of models were established, including the radiomics, clinical, and combined model. Receiver operating characteristic curves, decision curves, and Delong’s test were used to evaluate and compare the models. Our analysis showed that all the established prediction models had good predictive performance in predicting the progress and outcome of COVID-19.

Background: Post-stroke shoulder-hand syndrome (SHS) is a common complication after stroke. To date, there is still a lack of consistently effective and good patient compliance methods for SHS. Methods: Fifty patients with SHS were included in this study. Patients in the control group received rehabilitation training (RT) for 2 weeks; each session was 30 min, 1 time per day, and 5 times per week. Patients in the observation group were additionally given Bo's abdominal acupuncture (BAA) with the same frequency and duration. The primary outcome was the change value in the VAS score from baseline to 2 weeks. The secondary outcomes measured were motor function of the upper limb, shoulder range of motion, ADL, and swelling volume. Results: Compared with baseline values, the mean VAS score at 2 weeks was reduced by 3.68 in the observation group and by 1.92 in the control group, with a difference between the two groups of 1.84 (P < 0.001); the mean MBI score at 2 weeks increased by 10.44 in the observation group and by 4.79 in the control group, with a difference between the two groups of 5.84 (P = 0.032); the mean swelling volume at 2 weeks decreased by 9.64 in the observation group and by 3.29 in the control group, with a difference between the two groups of 6.48 (P < 0.001). BAA-related adverse events were not found during the study. Conclusions: BAA combined with RT is superior to RT alone in improving shoulder pain, swelling, and ADL in post-stroke SHS patients. Molecular diversity of proprioceptive neuron types (Ia, Ib and II PNs) is unclear. Here, the authors characterized the functional organization and development of eight subtypes of PNs in mice. Importantly, Ia subtypes are plastic, suggesting a role in adaptive proprioception during motor behavior.

The diversity of primary sensory neurons and how fate choice is determined is unclear. Here, the authors use single cell RNA sequencing analysis of early murine somatosensory neurons to show that sensory neuron diversity is achieved by a transition through a bi-potential intermediate state.

Abstract Background Management of nasal valve collapse (NVC) in patients with a septal deviation can be challenging. Our objective was to determine the opinions of Canadian Otolaryngologists regarding the diagnosis and management of nasal obstruction in patients with septal deviation and NVC. Methods A twenty-question survey was developed for the purpose of our study. Questions were divided into the following areas: diagnosis, management and prognosis. We included all otolaryngologists who were members of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology. Results The response rate to our survey was 18%. The most commonly identified cause of a failed septoplasty was incomplete septoplasty (41.9%), followed by nasal valve collapse (25.6%). The Cottle manoeuvre (62.8%) and visual inspection (39.5%) were noted to be the most important diagnostic tools for external and internal NVC respectively. However, physicians often rely on a variable number of different examinations when making a diagnosis of nasal valve collapse. When evaluating which patients with a septal deviation also required nasal valve surgery, 27.9% of responders believed the current physical examination methods provided a high accuracy, while 55.8% indicated moderate accuracy and 16.3% indicated low accuracy. Compared to other subspecialties in Otolaryngology, Facial Plastic and Reconstruction Surgeons noted higher septoplasty failure rates in patients with co-morbid NVC. Conclusions NVC is an important concern for otolaryngologists performing septoplasty. Although most physicians believe that the physical exam provides a moderate effectiveness when predicting who requires a functional rhinoplasty, diagnostic methods used for NVC is varied and inconsistent.

Introduction Hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury (I/R) is a significant source of morbidity and mortality after liver surgery. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of hepatic I/R injury on the hippocampus in rats with postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). Material and methods Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 160, age: 20–25 months, weight: 300–350 g) received I/R surgery with ischemia for 20 minutes, 30 minutes, and 40 minutes in different groups. Behavior tests of the Morris water maze (MWM) test and the passive avoidance test were applied. Population spike (PS) of pyramidal cells, nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) and protein kinase γ (PKCγ) in the hippocampus were observed. Results Within 10 days after surgery, in aged rats with varying impaired cognitive function, spike size and spike latency period were reduced, level of PKCγ was decreased and an increased level of NF-κB was observed in the I/R group, especially in the I/R group with ischemia for 40 minutes. The parameters showed no significant difference in rats in the I/R group compared with the sham group at the 18th day after surgery. Conclusions Hepatic I/R injury has a negative impact on the postoperative cognitive function in aged rats, leading to hippocampus changes with PS abnormity and level changes of NF-κB, PKCγ. However, this cognitive deficit improved over time.

Set G=T∪C, which is called a Halin graph. A k-L(2,1)-labeling of a graph G=(V,E) is a mapping f:V(G)→{0,1,…,k} such that, for any x1,x2∈V(G), it holds that |f(x1)−f(x2)|≥2 if x1x2∈E(G), and |f(x1)−f(x2)|≥1 if the distance between x1 and x2 is 2 in G. The L(2,1)-labeling number, denoted λ(G), of G is the least k for which G is k-L(2,1)-labelable. In this paper, we prove that every Halin graph G with Δ=8 has λ(G)≤10. This improves a known result, which states that every Halin graph G with Δ≥9 satisfies λ(G)≤Δ+2. This result, together with some known results, shows that every Halin graph G satisfies λ(G)≤Δ+6.

Background: Bo's abdominal acupuncture (BAA) is a novel therapy in alternative and complementary medicine and has been frequently used for stroke recovery in recent decades. However, no systematic evidence has been performed to confirm the effect and safety of BAA as an adjunctive therapy for post-stroke motor dysfunction (PSMD).Objectives: This review aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of BAA as an adjunctive therapy for improving allover motor function, upper limb motor function, lower limb motor function, and activities of daily living (ADL) in patients with PSMD.Methods: Seven databases were searched from inception to December 2020: Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Chinese Biological Medicine Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, WAN FANG, and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure. All randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving BAA plus another therapy vs. the same other therapy alone were identified. The methodological quality of the included trials was assessed according to the Cochrane risk of bias criteria. If more than half of the domains in a study are at low risk of bias, the overall quality of the study is low risk. We conducted a meta-analysis for primary outcomes using a random effects model and performed a narrative summary for the secondary outcome. We also conducted subgroup analysis for primary outcomes based on different add-on treatments to BAA. Random effects and fixed effects models were used to test the robustness of the pooled data. We also tested the robustness of the meta-analysis using specific methodological variables that could affect primary outcome measures.Results:Twenty-one trials with 1,473 patients were included in this systematic review. The overall quality of the 14 included trials (66.7%) was low risk. Meta-analyses indicated that the effect of the BAA group was better than that of the non-EA group on the Fugl-Meyer Assessment Scale (FMA) (weight mean difference (WMD) 9.53, 95% confidence interval (CI) 7.23 to 11.83, P < 0.00001), FMA for upper extremities (WMD 11.08, 95% CI 5.83 to 16.32, P < 0.0001), FMA for lower extremities (WMD 5.57, 95% CI 2.61 to 8.54, P = 0.0002), and modified Barthel Index (standardized mean difference (SMD) 1.02, 95% CI 0.65 to 1.39, P < 0.00001). Two trials (9.5%) reported BAA-related adverse events, and the most common adverse event was local subcutaneous ecchymosis.Conclusions: BAA as an adjunctive therapy may have clinical benefits for improving allover motor function, upper limb motor function, lower limb motor function, and ADL in patients with PSMD. BAA-related adverse events were rare, tolerable, and recoverable. However, our review findings should be interpreted with caution because of the methodological weaknesses in the included trials. High-quality trials are needed to assess the adjunctive role of BAA in patients with PSMD.

The acyclic chromatic index χa′(G) of a graph G is the smallest k for which G is a proper edge colorable using k colors. A 1-planar graph is a graph that can be drawn in plane such that every edge is crossed by at most one other edge. In this paper, we prove that every 1-planar graph G has χa′(G)≤Δ+36, where Δ denotes the maximum degree of G. This strengthens a result that if G is a triangle-free 1-planar graph, then χa′(G)≤Δ+16.

Objective: The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess whether cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) on neuroimaging of patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) treated with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) is associated with an increased risk of hemorrhagic transformation (HT), symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH), and poor functional outcome (PFO).Methods: A thorough search of several databases was carried out to identify relevant studies up to December 2020. We included studies of patients with AIS and neuroimaging markers of CSVD treated with IVT. The primary outcome was HT, and the secondary outcomes were sICH and 3-month PFO. The quality of the studies involved was evaluated using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS). The meta-analysis with the fixed effects model was performed.Results: Twenty-four eligible studies (n = 9,419) were pooled in the meta-analysis. All included studies were regarded as high quality with the NOS scores of at least 6 points. The meta-analysis revealed associations between the presence of CSVD and HT, sICH, and the 3-month PFO after IVT. Compared with no CSVD, the presence of CSVD was associated with an increased risk of HT (OR: 1.81, 95% CI: 1.52–2.16), sICH (OR: 2.42, 95% CI: 1.76–3.33), and 3-month PFO (OR: 2.15, 95% CI: 1.89–2.44). For patients with AIS complicated with CSVD, compared with a CSVD score of 0–1, a CSVD score of 2–4 was associated with an increased risk of HT (OR: 3.10, 95% CI: 1.67–5.77), sICH (OR: 2.86, 95% CI: 1.26–6.49), and 3-month PFO (OR: 4.58, 95% CI: 2.97–7.06).Conclusion: Patients with AIS complicated with neuroimaging markers of CSVD are at increased risk of HT and 3-month PFO after IVT. However, it is still necessary to clarify the exact role of CSVD in the occurrence, development, and prognosis of AIS.Systematic Review Registration:www.ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier CRD4202123 3900.

Programmed cell death is an important part of tissue development, and traditionally it is considered that neuronal death is a stochastic process in response to neurotrophic factor deprivation. Here the authors show that for TrkC+ proprioreceptors, which neurons die is predetermined molecularly by how much TrkC is present, as well as by a gene expression signature.

Abstract Background Central giant cell granulomas are benign tumours of the mandible, presenting in children and young adults. Divided into non- and aggressive subtypes, the aggressive subtype is relatively rare and can occasionally progress rapidly, resulting in significant morbidity. Case presentation We present a case of an aggressive central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) in a six year-old female. The lesion originated in the right mandibular ramus and progressed rapidly to involve the condyle. Diagnosis was made using a combination of imaging and pathology. A timely en bloc resection of the hemi-mandible was performed with placement of a reconstructive titanium plate and condylar prosthesis. Conclusion Our case demonstrates the importance of considering CGCG in the differential diagnosis of rapidly progressive mandibular lesions in the pediatric population. Prompt diagnosis and management can greatly improve long-term outcomes.

Many symmetric properties are well-explored in graph theory, especially in graph coloring, such as symmetric graphs defined by the automorphism groups, symmetric drawing of planar graphs, and symmetric functions which are used to count the number of specific colorings of a graph. This paper is devoted to studying the star edge coloring of 1-planar graphs. The star chromatic index χst′(G) of a graph G is defined as the smallest k for which the edges of G can be colored by using k colors so that no two adjacent edges get the same color and no bichromatic paths or cycles of length four are produced. A graph G is called 1-planar if it can be drawn in the plane such that each edge crosses at most one other edge. In this paper, we prove that every 1-planar graph G satisfies χst′(G)≤7.75Δ+166; and moreover χst′(G)≤⌊1.5Δ⌋+500 if G contains no 4-cycles, and χst′(G)≤2.75Δ+116 if G is 3-connected, or optimal, or NIC-planar.

The clinical spectrum of COVID-19 pneumonia is varied. Thus, it is important to identify risk factors at an early stage for predicting deterioration that require transferring the patients to ICU. A retrospective multicenter study was conducted on COVID-19 patients admitted to designated hospitals in China from Jan 17, 2020, to Feb 17, 2020. Clinical presentation, laboratory data, and quantitative CT parameters were also collected. The result showed that increasing risks of ICU admission were associated with age > 60 years (odds ratio [OR], 12.72; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.42–24.61; P = 0.032), coexisting conditions (OR, 5.55; 95% CI, 1.59–19.38; P = 0.007) and CT derived total opacity percentage (TOP) (OR, 8.0; 95% CI, 1.45–39.29; P = 0.016). In conclusion, older age, coexisting conditions, larger TOP at the time of hospital admission are associated with ICU admission in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia. Early monitoring the progression of the disease and implementing appropriate therapies are warranted.

Considering the coal and gas outburst phenomenon in the mining space, this paper analyzes the main characteristics of coal and gas outburst accidents, defines the outburst airflow reversal degree, and constructs a simplified topology graph of tunneling ventilation system, while the air door is not destroyed. Using the numerical simulation method, this paper elaborates on the relationship between the outburst pressure and airflow reversal degree. The results indicate that the inlet pressure increases to 264 hPa and the outlet pressure increases to 289 hPa when the outburst pressure increases from 1 hPa to 1 MPa, and the relative variation coefficient of pressure decreases from 1501.5 to 1.62 in the inlet of return airway and decreases from 2002 to 1.65 in the outlet of return airway. Furthermore, the air velocity decreases from −1.38 to −284.44 m/s in the inlet and increases from 3.10 to 297.38 m/s in the outlet. Moreover, the gas concentration of the inlet and outlet in return airway increases rapidly with the increase of outburst pressure. When the outburst pressure is greater than 0.15 MPa, the gas concentration will be over 98% in tunneling ventilation system. This paper also finds out a cubic polynomial relationship existing between the reversal degree and the outburst pressure. It provides the prediction of coal and gas outburst and serves as a guidance in case mine ventilation disturbances occur.

It was proved In 2013, that every outerplanar graph G with Δ≥3 has χs′(G)≤3Δ−3. In this paper, we give a characterization for an outerplanar graph G to have χs′(G)=3Δ−3. We also show that if G is a bipartite outerplanar graph, then χs′(G)≤2Δ; and χs′(G)=2Δ if and only if G contains a particular subgraph.

Abstract Background Cochlear implant (CI) insertion depth can affect residual hearing preservation, tonotopic range coverage, and Mapping. Therefore, determining insertion depth has the potential to maximize CI performance. A post-op skull X-RAY is commonly used to assess insertion depth, however its effectiveness has not been well established. Our primary objective was to assess the accuracy of post-op skull X-RAYs to determine insertion depth, compared to CT as the gold standard. Secondary objectives were to compare experience level of raters and different skull X-RAY views. Methods Thirteen patients with Advanced Bionic HiRes 90 K implants, and post-operative temporal bone CT scans were selected from the CI database at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Medical students, otology fellows, and CI surgeons evaluated insertion depths on post-op skull X-RAYs, while neuroradiologists evaluated CT scans. Descriptive statistics, regression analysis, and paired t-tests were used to compare the two types of imaging. Results X-RAYs and CTs provided an equivalent mean insertion depth of 337 degrees (p = 0.93), a mean difference of − 0.9 degrees and a standard deviation of paired differences of 43 degrees. Although means were similar across rater groups, CI surgeons (45 degrees) had the lowest standard deviation of paired differences. Comparing X-RAY views, Caldwell (29 degrees) had less variation than Towne (59 degrees) for standard deviation of paired differences. Conclusions Skull X-RAYs provide accurate and reliable measurements for CI insertion depth. The Caldwell view alone may be sufficient for evaluations of insertion depth, and experience has a minor impact on the variability of estimates.

These nanomaterials need to go through a lot of tests in engineering application before, to determine their physical, chemical and nanomedicine properties. The work demands a large number of experimental personnel, equipment and reagents, and it’s time-consuming as well. In the theoretical nanoscience, the various features can be obtained through the computation of topological index on nano molecular structures. In this paper, we study the fourth multiplicative atom-bond connectivity indices of some special molecular structures which commonly appeared in the compound of nanomaterials, and their specific expressions are given. The results yielded in this work will be a guidance for the practical nanoscience applications. At present, most of the reported planar pentacoordinate clusters are similar to the isoelectronic substitution of CAl5+, with 18 counting electrons. Meanwhile, the regular planar pentacoordinate boron systems are rarely reported. Hereby, a sulphur-bridged BAl5S5+ system with a five-pointed star configuration and 17 counting electrons is identified at the global energy minimum through the particle-swarm optimization method, based on the previous recognition on bridged sulphur as the peripheral tactics to the stable planar tetracoordinate carbon and boron. Its outstanding stability has been demonstrated by thermodynamic analysis at 900 K, electronic properties and chemical bonding analysis. This study provides adequately theoretical basis and referable data for its experimental capture and testing.

Determining the influence scope of the airflow disorder is an important problem after coal and gas outburst accidents in ventilation systems. This paper puts forward the indexes of airflow disorder, including the length of the excavation roadway, the outburst pressure, the pressure difference of the air door, and the air quantity of the auxiliary fan. Using the orthogonal table of L9 (34) and numerical simulation method, the characteristics of airflow reversal are studied, and the outburst airflow reversal degree is calculated should the ventilation facility fail. Furthermore, on the basis of fuzzy comprehensive optimization theory, the comprehensive evaluation model of the airflow disorder is established. The results show that the length of the excavation roadway is the most important factor affecting the stability of the ventilation system, followed by the outburst pressure, pressure difference of the air door, and air quantity of the auxiliary fan. The influence of a gas outburst accident on the return air system is greater than that on the inlet air system, and a larger air velocity has a greater impact on the ventilation system, especially the air inlet part. Moreover, the airflow reversal degree of the ventilation system increases with the increase of the outburst pressure or decreases with the length of the excavation roadway. This paper provides a basis for the prevention of gas outburst accidents.

In theoretical medicine, topological indices are defined to test the medicine and pharmacy characteristics, such as melting point, boiling point, toxicity and other biological activities. As basic molecular structures, hexagonal jagged-rectangle and distance-regular structure are widely appeared in medicine, pharmacy and biology engineering. In this paper, we study the chemical properties of hexagonal jagged-rectangle from the mathematical point of view. Several vertex distance-based indices are determined. In the field of medicine, there are a large number of new drugs synthesis every year. Before entering the clinical stage, it needs a lot of work on drug testing of the various properties. Due to the lack of a large number of laboratory technician, laboratory equipment and reagents, the drug testing of many biochemical properties are not completed. Theoretical medicine provides a theoretical way for medical researchers to obtain the pharmaceutical properties of compounds by calculation tricks. In this paper, the first multiplication atom-bond connectivity index of several common drugs structure are studied, and the accurate expressions are determined. These theoretical conclusions provide practical guiding significance for pharmaceutical engineering. Summary: The sensation of pain is essential for the preservation of the functional integrity of the body. However, the key molecular regulators necessary for the initiation of the development of pain-sensing neurons have remained largely unknown. Here, we report that, in mice, inactivation of the transcriptional regulator PRDM12, which is essential for pain perception in humans, results in a complete absence of the nociceptive lineage, while proprioceptive and touch-sensitive neurons remain. Mechanistically, our data reveal that PRDM12 is required for initiation of neurogenesis and activation of a cascade of downstream pro-neuronal transcription factors, including NEUROD1, BRN3A, and ISL1, in the nociceptive lineage while it represses alternative fates other than nociceptors in progenitor cells. Our results thus demonstrate that PRDM12 is necessary for the generation of the entire lineage of pain-initiating neurons. : The sensation of pain, temperature, and itch by neurons of the nociceptive lineage is essential for animal survival. In this review, we discuss the parameters of fused deposition modeling (FDM) technology used in finished parts made from polyether ether ketone (PEEK) and also the possibility of printing small PEEK parts. The published articles reporting on 3D printed PEEK implants were obtained using PubMed and search engines such as Google Scholar including references cited therein. The results indicate that although many have been experiments conducted on PEEK 3D printing, the consensus on a suitable printing parameter combination has not been reached and optimized parameters for printing worth pursuing. The printing of reproducible tiny-sized PEEK parts with high accuracy has proved to be possible in our experiments. Understanding the relationships among material properties, design parameters, and the ultimate performance of finished objects will be the basis for further improvement of the quality of 3D printed medical devices based on PEEK and to expand the polymers applications.
