4. A geometry-aware deep network for depth estimation in monocular endoscopy

Abstract

Monocular depth estimation is critical for endoscopists to perform spatial perception and 3D navigation of surgical sites. However, most of the existing methods ignore the important geometric structural consistency, which inevitably leads to performance degradation and distortion of 3D reconstruction. To address this issue, we introduce a gradient loss to penalize edge fluctuations ambiguous around stepped edge structures and a normal loss to explicitly express the sensitivity to frequently small structures, and propose a geometric consistency loss to spreads the spatial information across the sample grids to constrain the global geometric anatomy structures. In addition, we develop a synthetic RGB-Depth dataset that captures the anatomical structures under reflections and illumination variations. The proposed method is extensively validated across different datasets and clinical images and achieves mean RMSE values of 0.066 (stomach), 0.029 (small intestine), and 0.139 (colon) on the EndoSLAM dataset. The generalizability of the proposed method achieves mean RMSE values of 12.604 (T1-L1), 9.930 (T2-L2), and 13.893 (T3-L3) on the ColonDepth dataset. The experimental results show that our method exceeds previous state-of-the-art competitors and generates more consistent depth maps and reasonable anatomical structures. The quality of intraoperative 3D structure perception from endoscopic videos of the proposed method meets the accuracy requirements of video-CT registration algorithms for endoscopic navigation. 33. Mitochondria-Targetable Near-Infrared Fluorescent Probe for Visualization of Hydrogen Peroxide in Lung Injury, Liver Injury, and Tumor Models

Abstract

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) overexpressed in mitochondria has been regarded as a key biomarker in the pathological processes of various diseases. However, there is currently a lack of suitable mitochondria-targetable near-infrared (NIR) probes for the visualization of H2O2in multiple diseases, such as PM2.5exposure-induced lung injury, hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (HIRI), nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFL), hepatic fibrosis (HF), and malignant tumor tissues containing clinical cancer patient samples. Herein, we conceived a novel NIR fluorescent probe (HCy-H2O2) by introducing pentafluorobenzenesulfonyl as a H2O2sensing unit into the NIR hemicyanine platform. HCy-H2O2exhibits good sensitivity and selectivity toward H2O2, accompanied by a remarkable “turn-on” fluorescence signal at 720 nm. Meanwhile, HCy-H2O2has stable mitochondria-targetable ability and permits monitoring of the up-generated H2O2level during mitophagy. Furthermore, using HCy-H2O2, we have successfully observed an overproduced mitochondrial H2O2in ambient PM2.5exposure-induced lung injury, HIRI, NAFL, and HF models through NIR fluorescence imaging. Significantly, the visualization of H2O2has been achieved in both tumor-bear mice as well as surgical specimens of cancer patients, making HCy-H2O2a promising tool for cancer diagnosis and imaging-guided surgery.

Abstract

The actual tooth surface is hardly obtained utilizing the existing simulation machining method. Therefore,a highprecision simulation machining method for gear shaping is proposed. Based on the CATIA platform,the spatial motion relationship between the cutter and the gear blank is analyzed by establishing the model of the cutter and the gear blank. The high-precision insertion of the cylindrical spur gear is completed considering the commands of CATIA translation,rotation,Boolean operation and secondary development functions. The tooth surface accuracy is confirmed with the actual processing parameters by measuring the normal distance between the standard involute and the tooth surface of the simulation model. Finally,the simulation model is reconstructed. The simulation model and the reconstruction model are separately solved by finite element. By comparing the simulation model and the reconstruction model solution results,the effectiveness of the simulation model obtained by this method is verified.

42. Mode-locked fiber laser based on Cr2Si2Te6 saturable absorber with a Sagnac loop.

Abstract

A late-model all-fiber mode-locked laser was introduced in this paper. This pulsed Er-doped fiber laser has a novel Sagnac loop structure and uses the tapered fiber coated with two-dimensional layer ferromagnetic insulator Cr2Si2Te6 as a saturable absorber in order to achieve passive mode locking. When the pump power was 167.6 mW, the laser worked at the fundamental repetition frequency of 19.1 MHz with a signal-to-noise ratio of 62.5 dB. The central wavelength of the spectrum was 1561.0 nm, and the maximum output power was 8.9 mW with a minimum pulse width of 5.2 ps. The mutual interference of beams makes the use of the saturable absorber more efficient. The results reveal that this Er-doped fiber laser has great application potential in nonlinear optics and ultrafast photonics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
