Individuals who are blind or have low vision (BLV) are at a heightened risk of sharing private information if they share photographs they have taken. To facilitate developing technologies that can help preserve privacy, we introduce BIV-Priv-Seg, the first localization dataset originating from people with visual impairments that shows private content. It contains 1,028 images with segmentation annotations for 16 private object categories. We first characterize BIV-Priv-Seg and then evaluate modern models' performance for locating private content in the dataset. We find modern models struggle most with locating private objects that are not salient, small, and lack text as well as recognizing when private content is absent from an image. We facilitate future extensions by sharing our new dataset with the evaluation server at https://vizwiz.org/tasks-and-datasets/object-localization.

The Einstein Probe (EP) achieved its first detection and localization of a bright X-ray flare, EP240219a, on February 19, 2024, during its commissioning phase. Subsequent targeted searches triggered by the EP240219a alert identified a faint, untriggered gamma-ray burst (GRB) in the archived data of Fermi/GBM, Swift/BAT, Insight-HXMT/HE and INTEGRAL/SPI-ACS. The EP/WXT light curve reveals a long duration of approximately 160 seconds with a slow decay, whereas the Fermi/GBM light curve shows a total duration of approximately 70 seconds. The peak in the Fermi/GBM light curve occurs slightly later with respect to the peak seen in the EP/WXT light curve. Our spectral analysis shows that a single cutoff power-law model effectively describes the joint EP/WXT-Fermi/GBM spectra in general, indicating coherent broad emission typical of GRBs. The model yielded a photon index of $\sim -1.70 \pm 0.05$ and a peak energy of $\sim 257 \pm 134$ keV. After detection of GRB 240219A, long-term observations identified several candidates in optical and radio wavelengths, none of which was confirmed as the afterglow counterpart during subsequent optical and near-infrared follow-ups. The analysis of GRB 240219A classifies it as an X-ray rich GRB with a high peak energy, presenting both challenges and opportunities for studying the physical origins of X-ray flashes (XRFs), X-ray rich GRBs (XRRs), and classical GRBs (C-GRBs). Mobile genetic elements (MGEs) are as ubiquitous in nature as they are varied in type, ranging from viral insertions to transposons to incorporated plasmids. Horizontal transfer of MGEs across bacterial species may also pose a significant threat to global health due to their capability to harbour antibiotic resistance genes. However, despite cheap and rapid whole genome sequencing, the varied nature of MGEs makes it difficult to fully characterize them, and existing methods for detecting MGEs often don't agree on what should count. In this manuscript, we first define and argue in favor of a divergence-based characterization of mobile-genetic elements. Using that paradigm, we present skandiver, a tool designed to efficiently detect MGEs from whole genome assemblies without the need for gene annotation or markers. skandiver determines mobile elements via genome fragmentation, average nucleotide identity (ANI), and divergence time. By building on the scalable skani software for ANI computation, skandiver can query hundreds of complete assemblies against $>$65,000 representative genomes in a few minutes and 19 GB memory, providing scalable and efficient method for elucidating mobile element profiles in incomplete, uncharacterized genomic sequences. For isolated and integrated large plasmids (>10kbp), skandiver's recall was 48\% and 47\%, MobileElementFinder was 59\% and 17\%, and geNomad was 86\% and 32\%, respectively. For isolated large plasmids, skandiver's recall (48\%) is lower than state-of-the-art reference-based methods geNomad (86\%) and MobileElementFinder (59\%). However, skandiver achieves higher recall on integrated plasmids and, unlike other methods, without comparing against a curated database, making skandiver suitable for discovery of novel MGEs. The accretion disks of supermassive black holes (SMBHs) harboring in active galactic nuclei (AGN) are considered to be an ideal site for producing different types of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). The detectability of these GRB phenomena hidden in AGN disks is highly dependent on the dynamical evolution of the GRB relativistic jets. By investigating the reverse and forward shock dynamics due to the interaction between the jets and AGN disk material, we find that the relativistic jets can successfully break out from the disks only for a sufficiently high luminosity and a long enough duration. In comparison, relatively normal GRB jets are inclined to be choked in the disks, unless the GRBs occur near an SMBH with relatively low mass (e.g., $\sim 10^6M_{\odot}$). For the choked jets, unlike normal GRB prompt and afterglow emission, we can only expect to detect emission from the forward shock when the shock is very close to the edge of the disks, i.e., the shock breakout emission and subsequent cooling of the shock., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

WiFi-based indoor positioning has been extensively studied. A fundamental issue in such solutions is the collection of WiFi fingerprints. However, due to real-world constraints, collecting complete fingerprints at all intended locations is sometimes prohibited. This work considers the WiFi fingerprint inpainting problem. This problem differs from typical image/video inpainting problems in several aspects. Unlike RGB images, WiFi field maps come in any shape, and signal data may follow certain distributions. Therefore, it is difficult to forcefully fit them into a fixed-dimensional matrix, as done with processing images in RGB format. As soon as a map is changed, it also becomes difficult to adapt it to the same model due to scale issues. Furthermore, such models are significantly constrained in situations requiring outward inpainting. Fortunately, the spatial relationships of WiFi signals and the rich information provided among channels offer ample opportunities for this generative model to accomplish inpainting. Therefore, we designed this model to not only retain the characteristic of regression models in generating fingerprints of arbitrary shapes but also to accommodate the observational outcomes from densely deployed APs. This work makes two major contributions. Firstly, we delineate the distinctions between this problem and image inpainting, highlighting potential avenues for research. Secondly, we introduce novel generative inpainting models aimed at capturing both inter-AP and intra-AP correlations while preserving latent information. Wolf-Rayet stars in close binary systems can be tidally spun up by their companions, potentially leaving behind fast-spinning highly-magnetized neutron stars, known as ``magnetars", after core collapse. These newborn magnetars can transfer rotational energy into heating and accelerating the ejecta, producing hydrogen-poor superluminous supernovae (SLSNe). In this {\em{Letter}}, we propose that the magnetar wind of the newborn magnetar could significantly evaporate its companion star, typically a main-sequence or helium star, if the binary system is not disrupted by the {abrupt mass loss and} SN kick. The subsequent heating and acceleration of the evaporated star material along with the SN ejecta by the magnetar wind can produce a post-peak bump in the SLSN lightcurve. Our model can reproduce the primary peaks and post-peak bumps of four example observed multiband SLSN lightcurves, revealing that the mass of the evaporated material could be $\sim0.4-0.6\,M_\odot$ if the material is hydrogen-rich. {We propose that the magnetar could induce strongly enhanced evaporation from its companion star near the pericenter if the orbit of the post-SN binary is highly eccentric, ultimately generating multiple post-peak bumps in the SLSN lightcurves. By using the Fermi/Gamma-ray Burst Monitor data of the X-ray bursts (XRBs) of SGR J1935+2154, we investigate the temporal clustering of the bursts and the cumulative distribution of the waiting time and fluence/flux. It is found that the bursts occurring in the episode hosting FRB 20200428 have obviously shorter waiting times than those in the other episodes. The general statistical properties of the XRBs further indicate they could belong to a self-organized critical (SOC) system (e.g., starquakes), making them very similar to the earthquake phenomena. Then, according to a unified scaling law between the waiting time and energy of the earthquakes as well as their aftershocks, we implement an analogy analysis on the XRBs and find that the FRB episode owns more dependent burst events than the other episodes. It is indicated that the fast radio burst (FRB) emission could be produced by the interaction between different burst events, which could correspond to a collision between different seismic/Alfven waves or different explosion outflows. Such a situation could appear when the magnetar enters into a global intensive activity period.

The second brightest gamma-ray burst, GRB 230307A (with a duration $T_{90}$ ~ 40 s), exhibited characteristics indicative of a magnetar engine during the prompt emission phase. Notably, a suspected kilonova was identified in its follow-up optical and infrared observations. Here we propose that the origin of GRB 230307A is a neutron star-white dwarf (NS-WD) merger, as this could naturally interpret the long duration and the large physical offset from the center of its host galaxy. In the framework of such a NS-WD merger event, the late-time kilonova-like emission is very likely to be powered by the spin-down of the magnetar and the radioactive decay of $^{56}$Ni, rather than by the decay of r-process elements as these heavy elements may not be easy to be synthesized in a NS-WD merger. It is demonstrated that the above scenario can be supported by our fit to the late-time observational data, where a mass of ~ $10^{-3} \ \rm M_{\odot}$ $^{56}$Ni is involved in the ejecta of a mass of ~ $0.1 \ \rm M_{\odot}$. The coalescence of binary neutron stars can yield the expulsion of a fast-moving, quasi-isotropic material, which may induce thermal radiation and give rise to kilonova emission. Moreover, the interaction between the ejected material and the surrounding environment generates an external shock, which can result in a long-lasting radio signal that persists for several decades following the merger. In contrast to supernova ejecta, kilonova ejecta exhibits a relatively lesser mass and higher velocity, and its expansion may ultimately result in the ejecta density becoming so low that the medium particle can freely pass through the ejecta. Thereby it would lead to a kind of incomplete sweeping on the interstellar medium. Employing a toy model, our investigation reveals that such incomplete sweeping may considerably diminish the late-time radio radiation power, irrespective of whether the binary neutron star merger results in the formation of a black hole or a neutron star. Our findings, thus, imply that the previously reported radio upper limits for certain short gamma-ray bursts may not necessarily place stringent constraints on the presence of a long-lived magnetar remnant in these short GRBs., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

Black widows (BWs) are millisecond pulsars ablating their companion stars. The out-flowing material from the companion can block the radio emission of the pulsar, resulting in eclipses. In this paper, we construct a model for the radio eclipse by calculating the geometry of the bow shock between the winds of the pulsar and companion, where the shock shapes the eclipsing medium but had not been described in detail in previous works. The model is further used to explain the variations of the flux density and dispersion measure (DM) of three BW pulsars (i.e., PSR B1957$+$20, J2055$+$3829, and J2051$-$0827) detected by the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). Consequently, we constrained the parameters of the three BW systems such as the inclination angles and true anomalies of the observer as well as the mass-loss rates and wind velocity of the companion stars. Neural language models are increasingly deployed into APIs and websites that allow a user to pass in a prompt and receive generated text. Many of these systems do not reveal generation parameters. In this paper, we present methods to reverse-engineer the decoding method used to generate text (i.e., top-$k$ or nucleus sampling). Our ability to discover which decoding strategy was used has implications for detecting generated text. Additionally, the process of discovering the decoding strategy can reveal biases caused by selecting decoding settings which severely truncate a model's predicted distributions. Some magnetic systems display a shift in the center of their magnetic hysteresis loop away from zero field, a phenomenon termed exchange bias. Despite the extensive use of the exchange bias effect, particularly in magnetic multilayers, for the design of spin-based memory/electronics devices, a comprehensive mechanistic understanding of this effect remains a longstanding problem. Recent work has shown that disorder-induced spin frustration might play a key role in exchange bias, suggesting new materials design approaches for spin-based electronic devices that harness this effect. Here, we design a spin glass with strong spin frustration induced by magnetic disorder by exploiting the distinctive structure of Fe intercalated ZrSe2, where Fe(II) centers are shown to occupy both octahedral and tetrahedral interstitial sites and to distribute between ZrSe2 layers without long-range structural order. Notably, we observe behavior consistent with a magnetically frustrated, and multi-degenerate ground state in these Fe0.17ZrSe2 single crystals, which persists above room temperature. Moreover, this magnetic frustration leads to a robust and tunable exchange bias up to 250 K. These results not only offer important insights into the effects of magnetic disorder and frustration in magnetic materials generally, but also highlight as design strategy the idea that a large exchange bias can arise from an inhomogeneous microscopic environment without discernible long-range magnetic order. FRB 180916.J0158+65 is a well-known repeating fast radio burst with a period ($16.35~\rm days$) and an active window ($5.0~\rm days$). We give out the statistical results of the dispersion measures and waiting times of bursts of FRB 180916.J0158+65. We find the dispersion measures at the different frequencies show a bimodal distribution. The peaking dispersion measures of the left mode of the bimodal distributions increase with frequency, but the right one is inverse. The waiting times also present the bimodal distribution, peaking at 0.05622s and 1612.91266s. The peaking time is irrelevant to the properties of bursts, either for the preceding or subsequent burst. By comparing the statistical results with possible theoretical models, we suggest that FRB 180916.J0158+65 suffered from the plasma lensing effects in the propagation path. Moreover, this source may be originated from a highly magnetized neutron star in a high-mass X-ray binary.

Over a period of multiple active episodes between January 2021 and January 2022, the magnetar SGR J1935+2154 emitted a total of 82 bursts observed by GECAM-B. Temporal and spectral analyses reveal that the bursts have an average duration of $\sim$145 ms and a fluence ranging from $1.2 \times 10^{-8} \ \mathrm{erg \cdot cm^{-2}}$ to $3.7 \times 10^{-5} \ \mathrm{erg \cdot cm^{-2}}$ (30 - 200 keV). The spectral properties of these bursts are similar to those of earlier active episodes. Specifically, we find that the emission area of the Double Black Body (BB2) model shows a Log-Linear correlation to its temperature, and there is a weak relation between fluence and $E_{\mathrm{peak}}$ (or $\alpha$) in the Cut-Off Power Law (CPL) model. However, we note that the temperature distributions of BB2/BB models in GECAM-B samples are different from those in GBM-GECAM samples, due to differences in the energy range used for fitting. To understand this difference, we propose a Multi-Temperature Black Body (MBB) model, assuming that the BB temperatures follow a power law distribution. Our analysis shows that the minimum temperature $kT_{\mathrm{min}} \sim 5$ keV of the MBB model, which is consistent between GECAM-B and GBM-GECAM. This indicates that both samples originated from similar magnetar bursts. We also reveal the spectra of magnetar bursts tend to be soft. It indicates that magnetar bursts may be composed of multiple low BB temperatures and the majority of the BB temperatures are concentrated around the minimum temperature.

The nearest GRB 170817A provided an opportunity to probe the angular structure of the jet of this short gamma-ray burst (SGRB), by using its off-axis observed afterglow emission. It is investigated that whether the afterglow-constrained jet structures can be consistent with the luminosity of the prompt emission of GRB 170817A. Furthermore, by assuming that all SGRBs including GRB 170817A have the same explosive mechanism and jet structure, we apply the different jet structures into the calculation of the flux and redshfit distributions of the SGRB population, in comparison with the observational distributions of the Swift and Fermi sources. As a result, it is found that the single-Gaussian structure can be basically ruled out, whereas the power-law and two-Gaussian models can in principle survive., Comment: 9 pages,6 figures

A large number of fast radio bursts (FRBs) detected with the CHIME telescope have enabled investigations of their energy distributions in different redshift intervals, incorporating the consideration of the selection effects of CHIME. As a result, we obtained a non-evolving energy function (EF) for the high-energy FRBs (HEFRBs) of energies $E\gtrsim2\times0^{38}$ erg, which takes the form of a power law with a low-energy exponential cutoff. On the contrary, the energy distribution of the low-energy FRBs (LEFRBs) obviously cannot be described by the same EF. Including the lowest dispersion measure (DM) samples, the LEFRBs are concentrated towards the Galactic plane and their latitude distribution is similar to that of Galactic rotational radio transients (RRATs). These indications hint that LEFRBs might compose a special type of RRATs, with relatively higher DMs and energies (i.e., $\sim10^{28-31}$ erg for a reference distance of $\sim10$ kpc if they belong to the Milky Way). Finally, we revisit the redshift-dependent event rate of HEFRBs and confirm that they could be produced by the remnants of cosmological compact binary mergers., Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures. \begin{abstract} Using the Keeton and Petters approach, we determine the deflection angle. We also investigate the motion of photons around a parameterized black hole in the presence of non-magnetized cold plasma by using a new ray-tracing algorithm. In spherically symmetric spacetime, we examine the influence of the plasma by applying the Hamiltonian equation on the deflection angle as well as shadow. It is examine to derive the rays analytically from Hamilton's equation by separating the metric and the plasma frequency. We study that the presence of plasma affects the deflection angle as well as shadow for the parameterized black hole and they depend on plasma frequency. If the plasma frequency is significantly lower than the photon frequency, the photon sphere and shadow radius expressions can be linearized around the values found for space light rays. Furthermore, we have graphically analyze the behavior of shadow for distinct positions under the effects of plasma frequency as well as low density plasma medium., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures

Interfacial electron-transfer (ET) reactions underpin the interconversion of electrical and chemical energy. Pioneering experiments showed that the ET rate depends on the Fermi Dirac distribution of the electronic density of states (DOS) of the electrode, formalized in the Marcus Hush Chidsey (MHC) model. Here, by controlling interlayer twists in well-defined trilayergraphene moires, we show that ET rates are strikingly dependent on electronic localization in each atomic layer, and not the overall DOS. The large degree of tunability inherent to moire electrodes leads to local ET kinetics that range over three orders of magnitude across different constructions of only three atomic layers, even exceeding rates at bulk metals. Our results demonstrate that beyond the ensemble DOS, electronic localization is critical in facilitating interfacial ET, with implications for understanding the origin of high interfacial reactivity typically exhibited by defects at electrode electrolyte interfaces., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures

GRB 221009A is the brightest gamma-ray burst ever detected since the discovery of this kind of energetic explosions. However, an accurate measurement of the prompt emission properties of this burst is very challenging due to its exceptional brightness. With joint observations of \textit{Insight}-HXMT and GECAM-C, we made an unprecedentedly accurate measurement of the emission during the first $\sim$1800 s of GRB 221009A, including its precursor, main emission (ME, which dominates the burst in flux), flaring emission and early afterglow, in the hard X-ray to soft gamma-ray band from $\sim$ 10 keV to $\sim$ 6 MeV. Based on the GECAM-C unsaturated data of the ME, we measure a record-breaking isotropic equivalent energy ($E_{\rm iso}$) of $\bf \sim 1.5 \times 10^{55}$ erg, which is about eight times the total rest-mass energy of the Sun. The early afterglow data require a significant jet break between 650 s and 1100 s, most likely at $\sim950$ s from the afterglow starting time $T_{AG}$, which corresponds to a jet opening angle of $\sim {0.7^\circ} \ (\eta_\gamma n)^{1/8}$, where $n$ is the ambient medium density in units of $\rm cm^{-3}$ and $\eta_\gamma$ is the ratio between $\gamma$-ray energy and afterglow kinetic energy. The beaming-corrected total $\gamma$-ray energy $E_{\gamma}$ is $\sim 1.15 \times10^{51} \ (\eta_\gamma n)^{1/4}$ erg, which is typical for long GRBs. These results suggest that this GRB may have a special central engine, which could launch and collimate a very narrowly beamed jet with an ordinary energy budget, leading to exceptionally luminous gamma-ray radiation per unit solid angle. Extreme stripped-envelope supernovae (SESNe), including Type Ic superluminous supernovae (SLSNe), broad-line Type Ic SNe (SNe Ic-BL), and fast blue optical transients (FBOTs), are widely believed to harbor a newborn fast-spinning highly-magnetized neutron star (``magnetar''), which can lose its rotational energy via spin-down processes to accelerate and heat the ejecta. The progenitor(s) of these magnetar-driven SESNe, and the origin of considerable angular momentum (AM) in the cores of massive stars to finally produce such fast-spinning magnetars upon core-collapse are still under debate. Popular proposed scenarios in the literature cannot simultaneously explain their event rate density, SN and magnetar parameters, and the observed metallicity. Here, we perform a detailed binary evolution simulation that demonstrates that tidal spin-up helium stars with efficient AM transport mechanism in close binaries can form fast-spinning magnetars at the end of stars' life to naturally reproduce the universal energy-mass correlation of these magnetar-driven SESNe. Our models are consistent with the event rate densities, host environments, ejecta masses, and energetics of these different kinds of magnetar-driven SESNe, supporting that the isolated common-envelope formation channel could be a major common origin of magnetar-driven SESNe. Despite the fact that the progenitor of fast blue optical transients (FBOTs) is still up for debate, FBOTs are sometimes suggested to originate from the core-collapse of ultra-stripped stars and be powered by a spinning-down neutron star. Following this consideration, it is expected that the late-time evolution of the progenitor stars can leave important imprints in the circumstellar material (CSM) of the FBOTs, due to the strong mass loss of the stars. The interaction of the FBOT ejecta with the CSM can drive a long-lasting shock to generate radio emission, which thus enables us to probe the CSM properties through radio observation although such observations are still rare. Within the framework of the magnetar-powered model, Liu et al.(2022) fitted the multi-band optical light curves of 40 FBOTs and, hence, the statistical distributions of the FBOT magnetar and ejecta parameters were obtained. Based on these FBOT population results, we investigate the dependence of the radio emission on the mass-loss rate of the progenitors and evaluate the detectability of radio emission from FBOTs with current and future telescopes. It is found that the distribution of the peak time and peak luminosity of the emission at 8.4 GHz are primarily in the regions of $t_{\rm{peak},\nu}=10^{2.12\pm0.63}$ days and $L_{\rm{peak},\nu}=10^{28.73\pm0.83}$ erg s$^{-1}$ Hz$^{-1}$, respectively. A joint detection of the Zwicky Transient Facility and Very Large Array could achieve success in about 8.7% FBOTs of $z\leq1$. Interrupted time series (ITS) is often used to evaluate the effectiveness of a health policy intervention that accounts for the temporal dependence of outcomes. When the outcome of interest is a percentage or percentile, the data can be highly skewed, bounded in $[0, 1]$, and have many zeros or ones. A three-part Beta regression model is commonly used to separate zeros, ones, and positive values explicitly by three submodels. However, incorporating temporal dependence into the three-part Beta regression model is challenging. In this article, we propose a marginalized zero-one-inflated Beta time series model that captures the temporal dependence of outcomes through copula and allows investigators to examine covariate effects on the marginal mean. We investigate its practical performance using simulation studies and apply the model to a real ITS study.

A rapidly rotating and highly magnetized remnant neutron star (NS; magnetar) could survive from a merger of double NSs and drive a powerful relativistic wind. The early interaction of this wind with the previous merger ejecta can lead to shock breakout (SBO) emission mainly in ultraviolet and soft X-ray bands, which provides an observational signature for the existence of the remnant magnetar. Here we investigate the effect of an anisotropic structure of the merger ejecta on the SBO emission. It is found that bolometric light curve of the SBO emission can be broadened, since the SBO can occur at different times for different directions. Wormhole propagation plays a very important role in the product enhancement of oil and gas reservoir. A new combined hybrid mixed finite element method is proposed to solve incompressible wormhole propagation problem with discontinuous Galerkin finite element procedure, in which, the new hybrid mixed finite element algorithm is established for pressure equation, while the discontinuous Galerkin finite element method is considered for concentration equation, and then the porosity function is computed straightly by the approximate value of the concentration. This new combined method can keep local mass balance, meantime it also keeps the boundedness of the porosity. The convergence of the proposed method is analyzed and the optimal error estimate is derived. Finally, numerical examples are presented to verify the validity of the algorithm and the correctness of the theoretical results.

A new hybrid mixed discontinuous Galerkin finite element (HMDGFE) method is constructed for incompressible miscible displacement problem. In this method, the hybrid mixed finite element (HMFE) procedure is considered to solve pressure and velocity equations, and a new hybrid mixed discontinuous Galerkin procedure is constructed to solve the concentration equation with upwind technique. Compared with other traditional discontinuous Galerkin methods, the new method can reach global systems with less unknowns and sparser stencils. The consistency and conservation of the method are analyzed, the stability and optimal error estimates are also derived by the new technique.

Event extraction is an important work of medical text processing. According to the complex characteristics of medical text annotation, we use the end-to-end event extraction model to enhance the output formatting information of events. Through pre training and fine-tuning, we can extract the attributes of the four dimensions of medical text: anatomical position, subject word, description word and occurrence state. On the test set, the accuracy rate was 0.4511, the recall rate was 0.3928, and the F1 value was 0.42. We introduce a few-shot localization dataset originating from photographers who authentically were trying to learn about the visual content in the images they took. It includes nearly 10,000 segmentations of 100 categories in over 4,500 images that were taken by people with visual impairments. Compared to existing few-shot object detection and instance segmentation datasets, our dataset is the first to locate holes in objects (e.g., found in 12.3\% of our segmentations), it shows objects that occupy a much larger range of sizes relative to the images, and text is over five times more common in our objects (e.g., found in 22.4\% of our segmentations). Analysis of three modern few-shot localization algorithms demonstrates that they generalize poorly to our new dataset. The algorithms commonly struggle to locate objects with holes, very small and very large objects, and objects lacking text.
