34. Dysbiosis of Gut Fungal Microbiota in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Abstract

In this study, we tested the feces of children with ASD and those of healthy children, and the overall changing of the community was observed in ASD children compared with controls. However, there were no abundant fungi populations showed significant variations between the ASD and Control group both at phylum and class level. Among the 507 genera identified, "Saccharomyces" and "Aspergillus" showed significant differences between ASD (59.07%) and Control (40.36%), indicating that they may be involved in the abnormal gut fungal community structure of ASD. When analyzed at the species level, a decreased abundance in "Aspergillus versicolor" was observed while "Saccharomyces cerevisiae" was increased in children with ASD relative to controls. Overall, this study characterized the fungal microbiota profile of children with ASD and identified potential diagnostic species closely related to the immune response in ASD.

42. Electric Field Redistribution Triggered Surface Adsorption and Mass Transfer to Boost Electrocatalytic Glycerol Upgrading Coupled with Hydrogen Evolution.

Abstract

Electrocatalytic glycerol oxidation reaction (GOR) stands out as an economical and prospective technology to replace oxygen evolution reaction for co‐producing high‐valued chemicals and hydrogen (H2). Regulating the adsorption of glycerol (GLY) and hydroxyl (OH) species is of great significance for improving the GOR performance. Herein, a hierarchical p–n heterojunction by combining Co‐metal organic framework (MOF) nanosheets with CuO nanorod arrays (CuO@Co‐MOF) is developed to realize the optimization on GOR. Specifically, CuO@Co‐MOF electrode exhibits superior performance with a conversion of 98.4%, formic acid (FA) selectivity of 87.3%, and Faradaic efficiency (FE) of 98.9%. The flow‐cell system with the bifunctional CuO@Co‐MOF electrode for pairing GOR with the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) reveals better energy conversion efficiency. Experimental results and theoretical calculations unravel the redistributed electric field by introducing Co‐containing species that contribute to the improved performance, which not only enhances the OH adsorption but also modulates the excessive GLY adsorption of CuO, thus reducing reaction energy barriers of FA desorption. Simultaneously, finite element analysis reveals that the novelty hierarchical structure can increase the concentration of OH− and facilitate the mass transfer of OH− in the solution. 48. Therapeutic Potential of Foodborne Indole Derived from Chinese Stinky Tofu in Reducing Intestinal Inflammation and Enhancing Barrier Function to Mitigate Alcoholic Liver Injury

Abstract

Indole, a compound in Chinese stinky tofu (ST), acts as a ligand for the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR). Despite extensive research on prebiotic compounds, indole’s specific role in ST remains unexplored. This study used an ethanol gavage method to create an ALD (alcoholic liver disease) mouse model and investigate dietary indole’s effects on the intestinal barrier. Our findings indicate that after 6 weeks of being fed ST, the indole present (2 mg/day) robustly activated the intestinal AHR, upregulating its target gene, CYP1A1 (cytochrome P450 1A1 enzyme). This activation significantly reduced intestinal permeability, mitigated alcohol-induced oxidative stress and inflammation, and restored intestinal barrier function. Consequently, the study demonstrates that foodborne indole substantially reduces alcohol absorption and lowers the expression levels of liver inflammation-related factors, thereby slowing the progression of ALD. These results highlight indole’s therapeutic potential for treating ALD and its role in developing functional foods.

49. A Series-Type Hybrid Circuit Breaker Based on Flying Capacitor Multilevel Injector With Balanced Switching Operation and Current Limiting Capability

Abstract

In this article, a series hybrid circuit breaker based on a flying capacitor multilevel injector (FCM-SHCB) is proposed for MVDC and LVDC, which utilizes the multilevel characteristic of FCM to realize the fault-current-limitation modulation and extend operation windows for mechanical switch (MS). Meanwhile, by fully exploring the redundant states of the FCM structure, the proposed FCM-SHCB can avoid the high-frequency operation of one single device in conventional S-HCBs, realizing balanced switching operation of the power semiconductor devices and reducing switching frequency without sacrificing the injection performance. The operation principle and parameters design consideration are detailed. A proof-of-concept FCM-SHCB prototype experimentally demonstrates the proposed solution can maintain the high-speed fault-current breaking ability (150 V/15 A/ $6~\mu $ s) while obtaining balanced switching operation (half-reduced switching frequency) and current limiting capability.
