Liver cancer is a prevalent malignant tumor with high mortality worldwide, making it urgent to explore new targets for liver cancer therapy. N-terminal EF-hand calcium binding protein 3 (NECAB3) is a new recognized regulator of cancer, while its role in liver cancer remained elusive. Thus, the study clarified the action of NECAB3 on liver cancer development and explored the detailed mechanism. We found that NECAB3 was enhanced in liver cancer. Knockdown of NECAB3 restrained liver cancer cell migration and invasion. Besides, knockdown of NECAB3 suppressed the activation of the hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α)/Ras like without CAAX 1 (RIT1) pathway. Furthermore, NECAB3 regulated liver cancer migration and invasion through modulating RIT1 expression. Moreover, downregulation of NECAB3 suppressed liver cancer tumor growth in vivo. In conclusion, NECAB3 was upregulated in liver cancer. Knockdown of NECAB3 suppressed aggressive phenotype of liver cancer via modulating the HIF-1α/RIT1 axis, providing a possible target for liver cancer therapy.

Skin wound healing is a continuous and complex process affected by many factors. Growth factors play an important role in the process of wound healing. Local application of growth factors can significantly promote wound healing. However, the degradation and time dependence of growth factors require appropriate delivery systems to help them play a role in wound healing. In recent years, wound dressing products with hydrogels as matrix materials or main components have shown obvious advantages in promoting wound healing. By modifying the hydrogel or combining it with other factors or materials that are beneficial to wound healing, the healing effect can be further enhanced. This review will introduce the research status of growth factors and hydrogels based on natural biological materials in skin wound repair and review the effects and research progress of the combination of growth factors and hydrogels in skin wound healing.

Gamma knife radiosurgery (GKRS) is recommended as the first-line treatment for brain metastases of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) in many guidelines, but its specific mechanism is unclear. We aimed to study the changes in the proteome of brain metastases of LUAD in response to the hyperacute phase of GKRS and further explore the mechanism of differentially expressed proteins (DEPs). Cancer tissues were collected from a clinical trial for neoadjuvant stereotactic radiosurgery before surgical resection of large brain metastases (ChiCTR2000038995). Five brain metastasis tissues of LUAD were collected within 24 h after GKRS. Five brain metastasis tissues without radiotherapy were collected as control samples. Proteomics analysis showed that 163 proteins were upregulated and 25 proteins were downregulated. GO and KEGG enrichment analyses showed that the DEPs were closely related to ribosomes. Fifty-three of 70 ribosomal proteins were significantly overexpressed, while none of them were underexpressed. The risk score constructed from 7 upregulated ribosomal proteins (RPL4, RPS19, RPS16, RPLP0, RPS2, RPS26 and RPS25) was an independent risk factor for the survival time of LUAD patients. Overexpression of ribosomal proteins may represent a desperate response to lethal radiotherapy. We propose that targeted inhibition of these ribosomal proteins may enhance the efficacy of GKRS. Recycling spent lithium-ion batteries is integral to today's low-carbon environmental protection efforts. The concept of direct regeneration, acknowledged for its environmental sustainability, economic viability, and consistent performance of recycled materials, is gaining prominence. This study presents an efficient and nondestructive approach by utilizing an ultrafast microwave technology to directly regenerate spent lithium cobaltate (LCO) cathode materials. In contrast to conventional furnace-based processes, this method significantly reduces the regeneration timeframe. By subjecting the spent LCO mixed with lithium sources to three microwave heating cycles (at approximately 1,350 K), LCO regeneration is achieved, yielding a specific capacity of 140.8 mAh g−1 (0.2 C) with a robust cycle stability. With further environmental and economic benefits, the ultrafast microwave technology holds scientific promise for directly regenerating cathode materials, while establishing competitiveness for industrial applications. The whole-cell inorganic-biohybrid systems show special functions and wide potential in biomedical application owing to the exceptional interactions between microbes and inorganic materials. However, the hybrid systems are still in stage of proof of concept. Here, we report a whole-cell inorganic-biohybrid system composed of Spirulina platensis and gold nanoclusters (SP-Au), which can enhance the cancer radiotherapy through multiple pathways, including cascade photocatalysis. Such systems can first produce oxygen under light irradiation, then convert some of the oxygen to superoxide anion (•O2−), and further oxidize the glutathione (GSH) in tumor cells. With the combination of hypoxic regulation, •O2− production, GSH oxidation, and the radiotherapy sensitization of gold nanoclusters, the final radiation is effectively enhanced, which show the best antitumor efficacy than other groups in both 4T1 and A549 tumor models. Moreover, in vivo distribution experiments show that the SP-Au can accumulate in the tumor and be rapidly metabolized through biodegradation, further indicating its application potential as a new multiway enhanced radiotherapy sensitizer.
