Introduction. One of the commonly encountered pathologies in the oral cavity when using removable dentures is denture stomatitis, attributed to Candida spp. colonization on the denture surface. Aim. Determination of the type and quantity of Candida spp. on the mucosal and denture surfaces in patients treated with "ThermoSens" partial dentures before and after treatment. Materials and Methods. Thirty patients were prosthetically treated and divided into 2 groups. In the first group (n=20), treatment was performed with "ThermoSens" partial dentures, while in the second (control) group, patients were treated with conventional dentures (n=10). Swabs were taken from the mucosal and denture surfaces. The samples were tested for quantitative and qualitative differentiation of Candida spp. before prosthetic treatment, at the first and third month after prosthetic treatment. The data was statistically processed using SPSS Statistics 26. Results. No statistically significant difference was observed regarding the quantitative accumulation of Candida spp. on the denture and mucosal surfaces between the two groups of patients (p>5%), measured at 1 month and 3 months after prosthetic treatment. It was found that the predominant Candida spp. in both groups of patients was Candida albicans. Conclusion. Although no statistically significant difference was observed in the two test groups regarding the number of colonies of Candida spp., the main group showed a tendency for a more significant increase in their number (up to 105 CFU/ml) on the denture surfaces at the third month after prosthetic treatment, which may be a presumption for the development of denture stomatitis.

Introduction: Replacing missing teeth is vital and mandatory for various daily functions of mouth. Conventional acrylic dentures have been used but now flexible dentures are the latest trends. Aim: This study is done to evaluate knowledge and awareness of flexible dentures in dental professionals. Materials and Methods: A questionnaire method was used to evaluate dental professionals' knowledge and awareness of flexible dentures in patients. Results: Few dentists showed positive response and major were not aware of it. Few knew of advantages, disadvantages, uses and materials. Each patient has unique treatment requirements considering that the residual ridge resorption has multifactorial etiology. Management of alveolar bone resorption is considered a challenge in prosthodontic treatment. Numerous methods, techniques and materials are used to reduce the residual ridge resorption. This review aims to analyze the available evidence of the effect of different denture treatments used to reduce the residual ridge resorption and the factors that may affect the residual ridge resorption. An extensive electronic literature search through PubMed/MEDLINE database by utilizing MeSH keywords was performed to find studies focusing on the effect of prosthodontic treatment and the factors that affect residual ridge resorption. A total of 907 English language tittles were obtained through electronic search, and seven (7) articles were extracted. This review concluded that proper diagnosis and treatment plan are an important aspect of prosthodontic rehabilitation of edentulous patients. The loss of the remaining natural teeth is a major and irreversible procedure for the patient. The prognosis for each remaining tooth should be assessed carrefully. A treatment plan is a proposal and can change due to a lot of reasons, including the patient’s ambivalence, prevailing clinical presentations, unforeseen complications and financial burdens. The presence of gross carries or advanced periodontal disease,cupled with a reluctance of the patient to respond to oral hygiene instruction, makes the decision of whether or not to extract the teeth a simple one. The loss of teeth may lead patients to seek care for functional reasons if they notice diminished function to a level that is unacceptable to them. Many prosthodontic treatments involves pretreatment and proprosthetic treatments, crown lengthening and intervention surgery on the level of the ridge.

Introduction: Detachment of denture teeth from denture base is one of the most common reasons for costly denture repairs .This study aimed at evaluating the bond strength of an acrylic denture tooth to polyamide injection-molded thermoplastic denture base material compared with three conventional polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) denture base resins. Materials and Method: A total of 40 acrylic denture molar teeth were randomly allocated into four groups (n=10) of heat-polymerized (HP), Auto-polymerized (AP), Injection molded (IM) and Polyamide thermoplastic (PT). All denture base/acrylic teeth combinations underwent 5000 thermal cycles (5-55◦C).Samples were subjected to shear bond strength test by a universal testing machine with a 1 mm/min crosshead speed .Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey’s tests(α=0.05). Results: Mean ±SD of shear bond strength values were (MPa) 4.82±1.21, 4.52±1.67, 3.7±0.84 and 4.13±2.21 for groups HP, AP, IM and PT respectively. No significant difference was found among the experimental groups (P=0.429). Conclusion: Polyamide thermoplastic denture base resin was similar to conventional PMMA denture base materials in terms of bond strength to artificial denture teeth.

Aim and Objectives: The aim of this study is to comparatively analyse the compressive and tensile strength of different types of record base materials made of different materials and processing techniques., Materials and Methodology: The compressive and tensile strength of 4 types of injection moulded materials were compared with a control of conventional compression moulded material. Twenty test specimens (10 tensile and 10 compressive) were fabricated from each material. A test was done using the Instron 3382 (Norwood, MA, USA) universal testing machine., Results: Compressive and tensile test values showed significant differences between the record base resin groups tested for both compressive and tensile strength tests (p=0.00). The mean tensile strength value was greatest for Group V (66.0 MPa) and lowest for Group III (41.9MPa) and the mean compressive strength value was greatest for Group I (74.5 MPa) followed by Group V (70.2 MPa) and lowest for Group III (10.8 MPa)., Conclusion: Injection moulded acetal resin showed the highest tensile strength value; it was comparable to that of conventional compression moulded polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Compression moulding is reported to have the highest compressive strength values followed by injection moulded acetal resin material. Background: Teeth lost are usually replaced by all-acrylic removable partial dentures (RPD) because of its affordability and ease of fabrication. The all-acrylic RPD is said to cause significant periodontal injury and consequently affect the oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL) of denture wearers. Objective: To determine and compare OHRQoL of all-acrylic and flexible RPD wearers at baseline and after use of dentures. Design and setting: Study was quasi-experimental using a cross-over design, involving 30 patients with Kennedy class IV and anterior class III arches. Patient recruitment and review were done over an eight-month period in the Prosthetic Unit of a tertiary health facility. OHRQoL was assessed with the oral health impact profile-14 questionnaire. Data were analysed using descriptive and multivariate analysis at asignificant level of p <.05. Results: Mean age of patients was 33.8 ±10.0 years; at baseline, patient reported occasionally, fairly often or very often for 11(78.6%) OHIP items. However, after using the acrylic and flexible partial dentures, 11(36.6%) patients reported having trouble pronouncing words and 9(30.0%) found it uncomfortable to eat respectively. At baseline, there was a difference in mean OHIP scores with age (p=.02); scores reduced from 12.4 ± 9.8 to 4.8±5.3 (CI= 3.3-12.0, p=.001) after using the all-acrylic denture and 3.8±5.6 (CI= 4.3-13.0, p<.001) with the flexible denture. Conclusion: There was improvement in the OHRQoL of patients with use of flexible partial dentures. Therefore, thermoplastic materials are possible alternative RPD base materials in patient management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Big variety of clinical cases is a very important element in choosing the peculiarities of development of creating the dentures. In the scope of these concerns enroll the present study, which aims to review, through clinical cases, the possibilities for treatment of edentulous by conventional methods but flexible acrylic material. The present study was performed in the Faculty of Dentistry Iasi, over four years, from 2008 to 2012, the group of patients is made up of those who were sent for prosthetic treatment declaring himself dissatisfied with conventional removable prosthetic dentures, represented be partial acrylic dentures or complete dentures. All patients in this study preferred flexible dentures to conventional ones due to traumatic experiences that have tried it with classical dentures and they restored their confidence that they can regain stomatognat system functionality.

Removable partial dentures are a treatment of choice for a wide range of patients because of the immediate replacement of teeth at low cost in developing countries. Eventhough it has lot of disadvantages like acrylic resin allergy, metal allergy, bulkiness, denture breakage, etc. Flexible removable partial dentures were introduced to overcome the disadvantages of conventional partial dentures and giving patient with good esthetics, function and comfort.
