The problem of numerical analysis of one electrostatic nanoelectromechanical system is considered in the article. Nanoelectromechanical systems are miniature devices that combine electronic and mechanical components of micro and nano sizes. Electrostatic actuation of the mechanical components of such systems is one of the most common types of actuation and that used in accelerometers, switches, micro-mirrors, micro-resonators, etc. The disadvantages of such devices are related to the pull-in instability. This effect occurs when the voltage applied to the moving electrode exceeds a critical value, causing the system to lose its stationary configuration. A semi-linear elliptic equation with the Laplace operator and the first boundary condition was used for mathematical modeling of the process. To construct an approximate solution of the problem, it is suggested to use the methods of nonlinear analysis in semi-ordered spaces, in particular, the results of V. I. Opoitsev on the solvability of nonlinear operator equations with a heterotone operator. The boundary value problem modeling the nanoelectromechanical system is reduced to the integral Urysohn’s equation using the Green – Rvachev’s quasi-function method, which allows us to expand the application of the two-sided approximation method for domains of fairly arbitrary geometry. The article substantiates the possibility of constructing two-sided approximations to a positive solution of the problem, namely: a computational scheme is given, conditions for its convergence to a single positive solution of the problem under consideration are obtained, and an error estimate is obtained. The method is illustrated by computational experiments for a problem considered in a rectangular domain. The results of computational experiments are presented in the form of numerical and graphical information., У роботі розглядається задача чисельного аналізу однієї електростатичної наноелектромеханічної системи. Наноелектромеханічні системи – мініатюрні пристрої, що поєднують електронні та механічні компоненти мікронних та нанорозмірів. Електростатична активація механічних компонентів таких систем є одним із найпоширеніших видів активації та використовується в акселерометрах, перемикачах, мікродзеркалах та мікрорезонаторах тощо. Недоліки таких пристроїв пов’язані з нестабільністю втягування. Цей ефект виникає, коли напруга, прикладена до рухомого електрода, перевищує критичне значення, в результаті чого система втрачає свою нерухому конфігурацію. У статті обґрунтовано можливість побудови двосторонніх наближень до додатного розв’язку задачі, а саме: наведено обчислювальну схему, отримано умови її збіжності до єдиного додатного розв’язку розглядуваної задачі, а також отримано оцінку похибки. Метод проілюстровано обчислювальними експериментами для задачі, що розглядається у прямокутній області. Результати обчислювальних експериментів представлені у вигляді числової та графічної інформації.

Актуальность исследования. Наноэлектромеханические системы, будучи высокочувствительными датчиками, имеющими малые размеры, и надежными в эксплуатации, находят все более широкое применение в нефтегазовой промышленности для мониторинга различных процессов в нефтедобыче - от разведки до повышения нефтеотдачи, а также при бурении скважин, очистке, фракционировании и переработке до вывода их из эксплуатации. Одним из примеров применения наноэлектромеханических систем является сейсмические исследование месторождений. Применение наноэлектромеханических систем позволяет улучшить производительность в дополнение к существенной экономии средств и времени для широкого спектра технологий нефтегазовой промышленности. Благодаря возможности непрерывного контроля эти технологии могут стать основой «умных» месторождений. Цель: построение математической модели, наиболее полно описывающей нелинейную динамику чувствительного элемента наноэлектромеханического датчика под действием знакопеременной нагрузки. Для этого необходимо учесть наиболее распространѐнные в настоящее время кинематические гипотезы, масштабные эффекты с помощью моментной теории упругости, нелинейную зависимость между напряжениями и деформациями, неоднородность материала, шумовые и тепловые поля. А также исследовать характер сложных нелинейных колебаний и выявить закономерности перехода их от гармонических к хаотическим. Объекты: геометрически и физически нелинейная нанобалка, описываемая кинематической моделью первого приближения, на которую воздействует равномерно распределенная знакопеременная поперечная нагрузка с гармонической составляющей, температурное поле и аддитивный внешний шум. Методы: вариационные методы, метод конечных разностей второго порядка точности для сведения системы нелинейных дифференциальных уравнений в частных производных к задаче Коши, метод Ньюмарка для решения задачи Коши, метод переменных параметров упругости Биргера для решения физически нелинейной задачи, метод вариационных итераций для получения аналитического решения двумерного уравнения теплопроводности. Результаты. Для получения аналитического решения теплопроводности применяется метод вариационных итераций. Построена математическая модель колебаний чувствительного элемента наноэлектромеханического датчика в виде размерно-зависимой балки, на которую действует равномерно распределенная поперечная нагрузка с гармонической составляющей. Помимо переменной нагрузки учитывалось влияние температурного поля и аддитивного внешнего шумового воздействия. Геометрическая нелинейность принята по теории Теодора фон Кармана (связь между деформациями и перемещениями). Для учета физической нелинейности материала балки применяются деформационная теория пластичности и метод переменных параметров упругости. Уравнения движения элемента механической системы, а также соответствующие граничные и начальные условия выведены исходя из принципа Остроградского-Гамильтона на базе модифицированной моментной теории с учетом гипотезы Эйлера-Бернулли. Выявлено, что температурное и шумовое поля уменьшают нагрузку, при которой происходит переход в хаотическое состояние системы. Переход от гармонических колебаний к хаотическим происходит по сценарию Рюэля-Такенса-Ньюхауза. The research relevance. Nanoelectromechanical systems, being highly sensitive sensors with small dimensions and reliable in operation, are increasingly used in the oil and gas industry for monitoring various processes in oil production, from exploration to enhanced oil recovery, as well as in well drilling, cleaning, fractionation and processing before decommissioning. One application example of nanoelectromechanical systems is seismic exploration. The use of nanoelectromechanical systems offers improved performance in addition to significant cost and time savings for a wide range of oil and gas industry technologies. With continuous monitoring capabilities, these technologies can become the foundation of smart deposits. The main aim of the research is a construction of a mathematical model that most closely describes the sensitive element nonlinear dynamics of a nanoelectromechanical sensor under an alternating load action. For this, it is necessary to take into account the most common kinematic hypotheses, scale effects using the modified couple stress theory of elasticity, the nonlinear relationship between stresses and strains, the material inhomogeneity, noise and thermal fields. And also to examine the complex nonlinear oscillations nature and identify patterns of transition from harmonic to chaotic. Objects: geometrically and physically nonlinear nanobeam, described by the kinematic model of the first approximation, which is affected by a uniformly distributed alternating transverse load with a harmonic component, the temperature field and additive external noise. Methods: variation methods, a second-order finite difference method for reducing the system of nonlinear partial differential equations to the Cauchy problem, the Newmark method for solving the Cauchy problem, the Birger method of variable elasticity parameters for solving a physically non-linear problem, the variation iteration method for obtaining an analytical solution of the two-dimensional heat equation. Results. The variation iterations method is used to obtain an analytical solution of thermal conductivity. An oscillations mathematical model for the sensitive element of the nanoelectromechanical sensor in the form of a size-dependent beam, on which a uniformly distributed transverse load with a harmonic component acts, is constructed. In addition to the variable load, the influence of the temperature field and additive external noise exposure were taken into account. The geometric nonlinearity is accepted according to Theodore von Karman theory (the relationship between deformations and displacements). To take into account the physical nonlinearity of the beam material, the deformation plasticity theory and the method of variable elasticity parameters are used. The motion equations of a mechanical system element, as well as the corresponding boundary and initial conditions, are derived from the Ostrogradsky-Hamilton principle based on a modified moment theory taking into account the Euler-Bernoulli hypothesis. It was revealed that the temperature and noise fields reduce the load at which the transition to the chaotic state of the system occurs. The transition from harmonic to chaotic oscillations occurs according to Ruelle-Takens-Newhouse scenario.

Soft nanosystems are electronic nanodevices, such as suspended carbon nanotubes or molecular junctions, whose transport properties are modulated by soft internal degrees of freedom, for example slow vibrational modes. In this review, effects of the electron-vibration coupling on the charge and heat transport of soft nanoscopic systems are theoretically investigated in the presence of time-dependent perturbations, such as a forcing antenna or pumping terms between the leads and the nanosystem. A well established approach valid for non-equilibrium adiabatic regimes is generalized to the case where external time-dependent perturbations are present. Then, a number of relevant applications of the method are reviewed for systems composed by a quantum dot (or molecule) described by a single electronic level coupled to a vibrational mode. Before introducing time-dependent perturbations, the range of validity of the adiabatic approach is discussed showing that a very good agreement with the results of an exact quantum calculation is obtained in the limit of low level occupation. Aim of this review has been to discuss common features of different soft nanosystems under external drive. The most interesting effects induced by time-dependent perturbations are obtained when the external forcing is nearly resonant with the slow vibrational modes. Indeed, not only the external forcing can enhance the electronic response, but it also induces nonlinear regimes where the interplay between electronic and vibrational degrees of freedom plays a major role., 21 pages, 14 figures

U ovom radu analiziran je DC - elektronski transport kroz vodljivu karbonsku nanocjevčicu u vanjskom magnetskom polju koja je učvršćena između nemagnetskog i magnetskog mikrokontakta na koje je doveden prednapon. Karbonska nanocjevčica promatrana je kao kvantna točka unutar režima kulonske blokade u kojoj su elektronska stanja Zeemanski rascijepljena i dovoljno razmaknuta obzirom na termalnu ”razmazanost” Fermijeve plohe pa je svako Zeemanski rascijepljeno stanje ponaosob smatrano odgovornim za elektronski transport. Magnetomotorno vezanje izmedu električne struje kroz karbonsku nanocjevčicu i njenih mehaničkih vibracija može rezultirati elektromehaničkom nestabilnošću i samoekscitiranim oscilacijama. S obzirom na to, u ovom radu dan je klasični teorijski opis elektromehaničke nestabilnosti u navedenom nanoelektromehaničkom sustavu u području dozvoljenih fizikalnih parametara pri čemu je elektromehanička nestabilnost određena nastankom samoekscitiranih oscilacija mehaničkih i električnih obzervabli koje uočavamo kao gubitak stabilnosti stacionarne fiksne točke i nastanak graničnog kola u faznom prostoru oscilatora. In this thesis we analyze DC - electronic transport through a carbon nanotube suspended between normal - metal source and spin - polarized drain in external magnetic field symmetrically biased. The carbon nanotube is considered as a quantum dot within Coulomb blockade regime in which electronic states are Zeeman - split and distant enough with respect to the thermal smearing of the Fermi surface so that each of the Zeeman - split states is responsible for electronic transport. Magnetomotive coupling between electric current through the carbon nanotube and its mechanical vibrations may lead to an electromechanical instability and self - excited mechanical vibrations. This thesis contains a classical theoretical description of electromechanical instability in the nanoelectromechanical system in the field of allowed physical parameters. Electromechanical instability is determined by occurrence of the self - excited mechanical vibrations that we notice as loss of stability of stationary fixed point and occurrence of a limit cycle in a phase space of an oscillator.

[eng] Scarce supply of clean water and rising water pollution are key global challenges for water sustainability. Much of the wastewater generated by human agricultural and industrial activity is left untreated. Nanotechnological materials and systems have emerged as new tools for improving the efficiency of water treatment. Among those, self-propelled micromotors have shown several advantageous characteristics. Micromotors are autonomously propelled systems which either use chemical energy present in their environment or are propelled via external force fields. Diverse designs, materials composition and mechanisms of propulsion are reported for micromotors found in the literature. Among them, bubble-propelled micromotors, which move due to the generation and release of gas bubbles from their surface, are the main type of motors used for water remediation applications. In addition to the motion in fluids, the bubbles generated by the motors, also contribute with additional mixing of the fluid and enhance the mass transfer between active material and pollutant at the microscale. Additionally, the structure of micromotors can be modified to target a wide variety of pollutants, almost on demand. The micromotors that we synthesized during the research work for this thesis can remove organic and heavy metal pollutants, as well as exhibit bactericidal activity. We studied Iron/Platinum (Fe/Pt) micromotors for their reusability, effect of sizes, swimming behaviors and catalytic properties. These micromotors were fabricated by spontaneous roll-up of iron and platinum nanomembranes, deposited on the pre-fabricated patterns of a photoresist substrate. The iron layer present as the outer surface of these micromotors can degrade organic pollutants via Fenton-like reaction and the inner platinum layer acts as the engine decomposing hydrogen peroxide to oxygen for bubble propulsion. We observed that Fe/Pt micromotors can swim continuously for hours, and can be stored for weeks before reuse, without sacrificing much of their activity. The results suggested that Fe/Pt micromotors act as a heterogeneous catalyst due to in situ generated iron oxide species on the surface, without leaching high concentration of iron in the media. We developed graphene oxide-based micromotors (GOx-micromotors) for heavy metal removal, consisting of nanosized multilayers of graphene oxide, nickel, and platinum. These micromotors can capture, transfer, and remove heavy metals (i.e. lead) from contaminated water. GOx-micromotors are synthesized by electrodepositions of electro-reducible graphene oxide, nickel and platinum layers in the polycarbonate porous templates. The outer layer of graphene oxide captures lead on their surface, and the inner layer of platinum provides self-propulsion in hydrogen peroxide, while the middle layer of nickel enables external magnetic control of the micromotors. We observed that the mobile GOx-micromotors can remove lead 10 times more efficiently than non-motile GOx-micromotors, cleaning water from 1000 ppb down to below 50 ppb. We have demonstrated control of their motion and directionality in a proof of concept microfluidic system. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) decorated Magnesium Janus micromotors were designed for disinfection and remove of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria from contaminated water. Magnesium present in the micromotors functions as both, the template for the spherical shape and propulsion source by producing hydrogen bubbles while in contact with water. The inner layer of iron provides functionality for the magnetic remote guidance, and an outer AgNP coated gold layer facilitates adhesion of bacteria and gives bactericidal properties to the micromotors. We observed that the AgNPs-coated Au cap of the micromotors shows dual capabilities, capturing bacteria and killing them. In our efforts to develop multifunctional micromotors and scalable synthesis methods, we developed two types of micromotors. (i) Mesoporous silica-based micromotors with manganese dioxide (MnO2) layer on the inner surface and coated with γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles (FeSiMnOx micromotors). These micromotors can remove both organic and heavy metal pollutants, and they are synthesized using only template-assisted chemical methods. (ii) Cobalt ferrite micromotors (CFO micromotors) synthesized by template-free chemical synthesis approach. They are made up of aggregated cobalt ferrite nanoparticles, which act as the catalyst for propulsion and for Fenton-like reactions. We qualitatively measured the generation of hydroxyl radicals by CFO micromotors and studied the effect of surfactants on the degradation efficiency of CFO micromotors. We hope that such approach of synthesizing micromotors via relatively facile methods will push the use of micromotors towards commercially practical solutions for water treatment. Overall, our results show that the multifunctional self-propelled micromotors have potential to become an effective tool for water remediation in the near future., [spa] El escaso suministro de agua limpia y el aumento de la contaminación del agua son desafíos globales clave para la sostenibilidad del agua, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que gran parte del agua residual generada por la actividad agrícola e industrial humana no se trata. Entre ellos, principalmente los micromotores propulsados por burbujas, los cuales se mueven debido a la generación y liberación de burbujas de gas de su superficie, se utilizan como una herramienta para aplicaciones de remediación de aguas. Esto se debe a la eficacia añadida de la transferencia de masa a la microescala, que se origina a partir de su movimiento y el movimiento de las burbujas liberadas. Además, la estructura de los micromotores se puede modificar para dirigirse a una amplia variedad de contaminantes, según los requerimientos. Los micromotores que sintetizamos durante el trabajo de investigación para esta tesis pueden eliminar contaminantes orgánicos y metales pesados, así como exhibir actividad anti bactericida. Estudiamos micromotores de hierro / platino (Fe / Pt) por su reutilización, efecto de tamaños, su comportamiento durante su movimiento y propiedades catalíticas. Estos micromotores se fabricaron mediante enrollamiento espontáneo de nanomembranas de hierro y platino, depositadas en los patrones prefabricados definidos en una capa sacrificial fotorresistente. Observamos que los micromotores Fe / Pt pueden nadar continuamente durante horas y pueden almacenarse durante semanas antes de volver a ser usados, sin que esto repercuta de manera significativa en su actividad. Los micromotores Janus se sintetizaron recubriendo un lado de una micro-partícula de magnesio con capas de hierro y oro, las cuales posteriormente se funcionalizaron con AgNP. El magnesio presente en los micromotores funciona no sólo como estructura principal para conseguir una forma esférica, sino también como fuente de propulsión mediante la producción de burbujas de hidrógeno al entrar en contacto con el agua. La capa interna de hierro proporciona la funcionalidad requerida para el posterior control magnético externo, mientras que la capa de oro externa decorada con AgNPs promueve la adhesión de bacterias y dota de propiedades bactericidas a los micromotores. En nuestro esfuerzo por desarrollar micromotores multifuncionales y métodos de síntesis escalables, desarrollamos dos tipos de micromotores. (i) Micromotores mesoporosos basados en sílice con una capa de dióxido de manganeso (MnO2) en la superficie interna y recubiertos con nanopartículas γ-Fe2O3 (micromotores FeSiMnOx). Estos micromotores pueden eliminar contaminantes orgánicos y metales pesados, y se sintetizan utilizando solo métodos químicos asistidos por un molde (por ejemplo, una membrana porosa). (ii) Los micromotores de ferrita de cobalto (micromotores CFO) fueron sintetizados sin necesidad de utilizar ningún molde. Están formados por nanopartículas de ferrita de cobalto agregadas, que actúan como catalizadores para la propulsión y para reacciones tipo Fenton. Medimos cualitativamente la generación de radicales hidroxilos por micromotores CFO y estudiamos el efecto de los tensioactivos sobre la eficiencia de degradación de los micromotores CFO. Esperamos que la síntesis de micromotores a través de métodos relativamente fáciles empuje la implementación de micromotores en soluciones comercialmente prácticas para el tratamiento del agua. En general, nuestros resultados muestran que los micromotores autopropulsados multifuncionales tienen el potencial de convertirse en una herramienta efectiva para la limpieza de aguas en el futuro.

Graphene membranes act as highly sensitive transducers in nanoelectromechanical devices due to their ultimate thinness. Previously, the piezoresistive effect has been experimentally verified in graphene using uniaxial strain in graphene. Here, we report experimental and theoretical data on the uni- and biaxial piezoresistive properties of suspended graphene membranes applied to piezoresistive pressure sensors. A detailed model that utilizes a linearized Boltzman transport equation describes accurately the charge-carrier density and mobility in strained graphene and, hence, the gauge factor. The gauge factor is found to be practically independent of the doping concentration and crystallographic orientation of the graphene films. These investigations provide deeper insight into the piezoresistive behavior of graphene membranes.

This work studies the integration intoNEMSof silica nanohelices fabricated by auto-assembly in solution and sol-gel deposition.We used a capillary assembly method to align them onmicrostructured substrates with trenches and electrodes for subsequent mechanical and electrical characterization. They were then rendered conductive by a FIB (Focused Ion Beam) deposition which allowed metallization and clamping in one lithography-free step. AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) mechanical measurements demonstrated their flexibility (0.1 N/m) and large linear domain. Their length and metallization allow tuning of these properties, which were confirmed by FEM simulation. Electrical measurements by the means of a 4-probe- Scanning Tunneling Microscope exhibited an ohmic behavior and hinted at a metallic piezoresistance effect. Finally, a resonator based on a single nanohelix was designed and fabricated. Its characterization should allow us to measure the dynamic electromechanical properties of the nanostructures. A new project will study their integration on soft substrates for strain gauges for biology.; Les nanohélices sont des nanostructures hélicoïdales flexibles, avec un excellent rapport surface sur volume. Par la suite, l’intégration sur des substrats souples afin de réaliser des jauges de contrainte pour la biologie est envisagée.

Mass sensing with nanoelectromechanical systems has advanced significantly during the last decade. With nanoelectromechanical systems sensors it is now possible to carry out ultrasensitive detection of gaseous analytes, to achieve atomic-scale mass resolution and to perform mass spectrometry on single proteins. Here, we demonstrate that the spatial distribution of mass within an individual analyte can be imaged - in real time and at the molecular scale - when it adsorbs onto a nanomechanical resonator. Each single-molecule adsorption event induces discrete, time-correlated perturbations to all modal frequencies of the device. We show that by continuously monitoring a multiplicity of vibrational modes, the spatial moments of mass distribution can be deduced for individual analytes, one-by-one, as they adsorb. We validate this method for inertial imaging, using both experimental measurements of multimode frequency shifts and numerical simulations, to analyse the inertial mass, position of adsorption and the size and shape of individual analytes. Unlike conventional imaging, the minimum analyte size detectable through nanomechanical inertial imaging is not limited by wavelength-dependent diffraction phenomena. Instead, frequency fluctuation processes determine the ultimate attainable resolution. Advanced nanoelectromechanical devices appear capable of resolving molecular-scale analytes.

Current approaches to mass spectrometry (MS) require ionization of the analytes of interest. For high-mass species, the resulting charge state distribution can be complex and difficult to interpret correctly. Here, using a setup comprising both conventional time-of-flight MS (TOF-MS) and nano-electromechanical systems-based MS (NEMS-MS) in situ, we show directly that NEMS-MS analysis is insensitive to charge state: the spectrum consists of a single peak whatever the species’ charge state, making it significantly clearer than existing MS analysis. In subsequent tests, all the charged particles are electrostatically removed from the beam, and unlike TOF-MS, NEMS-MS can still measure masses. This demonstrates the possibility to measure mass spectra for neutral particles. Thus, it is possible to envisage MS-based studies of analytes that are incompatible with current ionization techniques and the way is now open for the development of cutting-edge system architectures with unique analytical capability., Mass spectrometry (MS) involves ionization of analytes with spectra dependent upon the mass-to-charge ratio. Here, the authors demonstrate that MS based on nanoelectromechanical systems gives results that are independent of the charge state and allow the mass spectrum of neutral species to be obtained.
