The aim of this study was to determine the high school students' views about the trip to the science and technology center with QR code brochure. In the study, the design and development research method was used. The study group consisted of a total of 21 students studying in the 11th and 12th grades of the Technical Anatolian High School in the Marmara region in Turkey. In the study, an information brochure of the science and technology center located in the Marmara region was re-designed by enriched with QR code. Afterwards, a day trip to the STC was organized. Data were collected with semi-structured interview forms and analyzed according to the content analysis technique. According to the results of the study, before the trip the students stated that the QR code brochure had different, remarkable, informative, and lively elements. The students emphasized that the QR code brochure increased their interest and curiosity about the trip. The students indicated that they had a better quality of the trip thanks to the QR code brochure, they could visit many places in a short time, and the brochure guided them. After the trip, the students asserted that their favorite parts of the science and technology center were the Simulator and Planetarium. Most of the students confirmed that the science and technology center trip contributed to the lessons, that they applied and tried what they learned in the lesson. Therefore, QR codes can be used in teaching materials and outdoor activities since QR codes increase students' motivation to lessons.

Objective: This study evaluated Tummy Time recommendations in patient education materials and informal sources found on the Internet. Methods: Patient education materials, available from health professionals online, and informal sources, found outside of healthcare, were evaluated for consistency with evidence-informed recommendations. Patient education materials were also evaluated for readability and visual presentation. Results: Twelve sets of patient education materials were included in the top 20 search results. Only one of them addressed all the evidence-informed recommendations accurately. Fifty informal sources were included in analysis, ranging from search rank #1 to #57. Nearly half of the informal sources were judged fully consistent with evidence-informed recommendations. Counter to best practice recommendations, two-thirds of the patient education materials were written above the reading level expected of a student with no more than an elementary school education. All used strategies to enhance clarity, although none met all standards for visual presentation. Conclusion: Although some good resources are available, healthcare providers should exercise caution when selecting or recommending patient education materials online, even when they are available from healthcare professionals. Parents turning to the Internet will find accurate information. However, to develop a comprehensive understanding, they may need to visit multiple sites. Practice Implications: Healthcare professionals are responsible for providing or directing their clients to reliable, comprehensive sources of information, and for being aware of the quality of information they may discover through their own searches. Healthcare websites are responsible for communicating clearly and comprehensively with their clients and the public. Some parent education materials require revision for readability, formatting and consistency with Tummy Time recommendations.

Cutaneous malignancy is one of the leading causes of cancer-related morbidities and mortalities. Patient self-screening is helpful for early detection. Among educational pedagogies, game-based learning (GBL) has received increasing attention in recent years. We appraised the effectiveness of GBL, using Wordwall, to enhance cognitive performances pertaining to fundamental knowledge of cutaneous malignancies and perspectives on the intervention compared with a digital pamphlet. This multi-center study utilized a quasi-experimental research design and was conducted between February and April 2022. Participants were recruited and randomly assigned into a game group and a pamphlet group with a 1:1 ratio. Fundamental knowledge of cutaneous malignancies was assessed with pre- and post-intervention tests consisting of ten multiple choice questions with four alternative answers. These tests asked about prominent or pathognomonic features of cutaneous malignancies. During the five-day intervention period, recognition scores of participants in the game group were recorded. Perspectives on the interventions were also collected for analysis. A total of 94 participants were included, 60 (63.8%) were female. The mean age was 19.8 years (standard deviation [SD]=0.8). The increase in knowledge scores of the participants in the game group and pamphlet group was 2.57 (SD=1.30) and 2.36 (SD=1.52), respectively. In the game group, the mean best recognition score (13.89, SD=2.83) was significantly higher than the mean first recognition score (9.53, SD=2.48) with a pvalue <0.001. The overall satisfaction among the participants in the game group and pamphlet group was 4.41 (SD=0.57) and 4.23 (SD=0.59), respectively. This study suggests potentiality of GBL to enhance knowledge and recognition performances of common cutaneous malignancies with high satisfaction. Embedding this approach in the primary prevention of cutaneous malignancies might be a promising option to prevent cancer-related morbidities and mortalities.

Objective: This study examined the characteristics and quality of publicly available COVID-19 information education and communication (IEC) materials in India between March and December 2020. Design: An explanatory sequential mixed-method design was employed to examine the characteristics and quality of 265 purposefully selected IEC materials. Setting: The IEC materials analysed were those published between March and December 2020 on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website, Government of India. Methods: A checklist was utilised to examine the quality and characteristics of the materials. Thereafter, qualitative analysis provided insights into the contents of the materials with specific focus on the 'COVID-19 continuum of care'. Results: The majority (73.96%, n = 196) of the selected materials were directed towards the general public and had a focus on prevention (67.55 %, n = 179). Despite COVID-19-associated stigma, only 56 (21.13%) of the materials addressed this issue. However, most (95.47%, n = 253) of the materials adhered to quality standards for contents, readability and aesthetics. This qualitative analysis focused on the contents of selected IEC materials using the concept of 'continuum of care'. The analysis identified three important themes: prevention to early diagnosis and treatment; mitigation of stigma and discrimination surrounding COVID-19; and addressing the infodemic caused by COVID-19. Conclusion: The quality of materials was mostly satisfactory and appropriate to the emergent requirements. Strengthening audience engagement and attractiveness of the materials might enhance readability and actionability. A bottom--up approach to the development of future IEC materials, involving the community might widen the coverage of vulnerable populations in future crisis events.

Information literacy has become one of the most essential skills we teach undergraduates. One highly effective way of teaching this skill is to put students in the active role of the mediator by asking them to produce a critical edition of an existing, open-access text. The process of inserting explanatory footnotes, writing introductory material, or creating an appendix of cultural contexts teaches research skills for interacting with a wide range of primary and secondary texts. Furthermore, critical editing foregrounds questions of audience and purpose that are essential to metaliteracy. This article discusses a footnoting assignment I designed for an undergraduate humanities course in which we read Edward Jenner's 1798 pamphlet on vaccination against smallpox, An Inquiry into the Causes and Effects of the Variolae Vaccinae. I developed a sequence of three research assignments that asked students to use online annotation software to create an edited version of Jenner's text aimed at their fellow students. In the first assignment they worked in groups to define key terms, identify the main points of Jenner's argument, and pose critical questions about the text. In the next two assignments, students conducted independent research in nineteenth-century periodicals to discover the popular debates surrounding smallpox and Jenner's work and then used their research to insert explanatory footnotes into Jenner's text.

At the University of North Carolina Greensboro's Speaking Center, recent formation of an Antiracist Values Committee, as well as former research completed by its members, have governed antiracist efforts. As one resource to students, the University of North Carolina Greensboro's Speaking Center offers tip sheets. These tip sheets are pamphlets that cover numerous communication-related topics from introductions to group cohesion. The measure of Black Language to White Mainstream English can be compared to the measure between antiracism to racism. In an effort to assess the antiracism or lack of antiracism in the materials offered by the UNCG Speaking Center, a textual analysis of 20 online tip sheet resources was conducted. Upon analysis and discussion, there are clear areas where antiracist efforts and language can be applied to a further extent. This article shares two of the study's findings which provide an example of unintentionally harmful rhetoric.

Background: Because early recognition of symptoms and timely treatment of stroke can reduce mortality and the longterm effects of such events, efforts to make many people both aware of these symptoms and knowledgeable about what to do when recognising them are critical for reducing impacts from stroke. Objectives: To assess the impact of a stroke preparedness film (intervention) and stroke preparedness pamphlets (usual care) on self-efficacy for stroke recognition and action. Design: Two-arm cluster randomised trial conducted between July 2013 and August 2018. Setting: A total of 13 church sites located in economically disadvantaged urban neighbourhoods in New York. Of the 883 churchgoers approached, 503 expressed interest, 375 completed eligibility screening and 312 were randomised. Participant inclusion criteria were Black or Hispanic churchgoers, aged 34years or older, without stroke history, but at a high risk for stroke. The intervention consisted of two 12-minute stroke films: "Gospel of Stroke," in English for Black participants, and "Derrame Cerebral," in Spanish for Hispanic participants. Method: Participants were pre-post-tested (at baseline, 6-month follow-up and 12-month follow-up) for self-efficacy. Descriptive analysis, a linear mixed model and "t" tests were used to assess the effects of a stroke preparedness film and stroke preparedness pamphlets on self-efficacy. Results: Findings are based on intention-to-treat analysis. A total of 310 participants completed the study (99% retention rate). About half (53.8%) of participants were Black and 46.2% Hispanic in the intervention group; 48.3% were Black and 51.7% were Hispanic in the usual care group. Overall, both groups evidenced higher self-efficacy (i.e. lower predicted means) over time (p < 0.0001), although a significant benefit was not observed for the intervention relative to usual care. Conclusion: Both stroke preparedness films and stroke preparedness pamphlets improved self-efficacy with respect to stroke recognition and action among minority churchgoers.

The catastrophic devastation from recent natural calamities in the Philippines such as Typhoon Yolanda and Central Visayas earthquake in 2013 had made disaster preparedness a primary concern in the country. Prompted by the critical need to use science to save lives, this study developed Science of Survival (SOS) pamphlets titled "When the Wind Rages and Water Rises: A Science of Survival Pamphlet for Typhoon, Flashflood, Storm Surge and Tsunami" and "When the Earth Moves: A Science of Survival Pamphlet for Earthquakes and Their Aftermath (Liquefaction, Fire, Landslide and Tsunami)". The study used the developmental research design consisting of three phases: needs and context analysis phase, design, development and formative evaluation phase, and semi-summative evaluation phase. By carefully documenting the iterative process of analysis, design, evaluation and revision, insights were sought with regard to the development of pamphlets that provide useful and scientifically accurate information about surviving natural calamities such as typhoons and earthquakes. Experts from government agencies involved in disaster risk reduction and management, science experts in the university, and students who were victims of major disasters reviewed and evaluated the pamphlets. The results of the semi-summative quantitative evaluation showed that both pamphlets are highly acceptable as supplementary resource materials on disaster response and management.

This study examines the communication strategies employed by Qatar's government in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. The study contributes to a growing body of work on the sociolinguistics of crisis communication. We focus on the use of South and Southeast Asian languages, spoken largely by blue-collar migrant workers, which are often seen as peripheral even though they are spoken by a large segment of the population. The deployment of these languages during Qatar's COVID-19 awareness campaign assumes further significance against the backdrop of a series of measures taken by the government in the last few years to strengthen the status and use of Arabic. We analyze multilingual printed pamphlets, multilingual audio-visual communication through radio and social media, as well as interviews conducted with key figures who were part of the awareness campaign. Our examination of the availability, accessibility, acceptability, and adaptability of the multilingual awareness materials reveals that while the different languages and modes of communication were important in spreading awareness, equally critical, if not more, was who carried the information and in what forms. We show the significant roles community and religious leaders and social media influencers played in disseminating the awareness information to the diverse migrant language communities.

Obesity and diabetes are two of the biggest public health problems in the modern world. One possible way to combat the rising prevalence of these diseases is through the spread of awareness about its consequences and how to prevent them. Therefore, educational interventions focused on teaching the physiological basis of these conditions might be valuable tools. However, most scholar curriculums lack high-quality material devoted to this topic. Thus we developed an educational booklet, composed of playful elements, targeted toward high school students and destined for application in classrooms. The efficacy of the developed material was validated through a pretest-posttest design, in which the students had to answer a 10-question test. After booklet completion, students had better outcomes, with an increase in the percentage of correct answers in 7 out of 10 questions contained in the test (P < 0.05. Thus we developed an effective material for usage in the high school classroom to spread the awareness of the risks of metabolic diseases and how to prevent them.

This article will analyze where the Amherst Project stood within the evolution of educational thinking since the early twentieth century and then show in detail how its activities developed fromits inception in 1959 to publication of the last pamphlet in 1972. The Amherst Project began among a group of instructors from Amherst High School and Amherst College who socialized regularlyat the Lord Jeffrey Amherst Inn. Leaders of the discussion group took it upon themselves to call a public meeting to confront the problem, during which a teacher from the high school insisted that students connect with history best through vivid primary sources. The first pamphlets came out in 1963; running from forty to eighty pages long, they were published by D. C. Heath under the title of the Amherst Project. From the start, it was obvious that most teachers were unsure how to use such lessons and needed extensive professional development if they were to use sources effectively. Reconsideration of the Amherst Project can help see how the history of history education relates substantially with present-day efforts to deepen teaching methods intellectually. This essay has traced how the most important attempts made to reform history education came about in the national reports of the 1890s, the progressive thinking of the 1920s, the movement for discussing primary sources in the 1960s, and, finally, the professional organizations begun in the 1980s.

Over the last twenty years, medical discourse has attracted a great deal of scholarly research. Language in healthcare settings has been more generally analysed through genres--whether in terms of expert-to-expert or expert-to-lay communication--whereas more specific aspects include the study of discourse strategies behind the expression of empathy, problems of media representation of healthcare issues, and the role played by cultural variables in healthcare contexts. While substantial research exists on medical discourse and the transmission of medical knowledge, a number of works still tend to focus on accuracy and comprehensiveness of content rather than on the linguistic analysis of communication strategies. In light of that, the aim of this work is to substantiate the findings in the literature published so far by bringing a genuinely discourse-based perspective to bear on them. To achieve this goal, a corpus investigation was carried out of web-based resources employed by a leading nationwide organisation to communicate to the public about cancer. The study focuses on the discourse functions of frequently occurring phraseology, in the attempt to address the following questions: (a) Are there any recurrent discourse patterns that tend to be reiterated across the sections of informative healthcare materials? (b) How are patients' needs addressed through the language of such materials? (c) More generally, how can findings be interpreted with a view to both their relevance to the context under analysis and their possible application in the language-learning classroom?

This study compares two modes of visually presenting information about wind energy--one using photographs and the other using cartoons--on audience's knowledge, attitudes and behavioural intentions. In an online experiment, participants were randomly assigned to the two treatments. Results indicate no significant difference between the two groups in terms of knowledge and attitudes, but those shown in the comics version showed stronger intentions to support wind energy than those shown as photos. Those exposed to the comics-aided brochure found it more informative, interesting and cognitively engaging. Those who saw the photo version found the brochure more credible.

This empirical study explores higher education advertising campaigns displayed in five world cities: Boston, New York, Oslo, Tokyo, and Toronto. The study follows a mixed-methods research design relying on content analysis and multimodal semiotic analysis and employs a conceptual framework based on the knowledge triangle of education, research, and innovation. The study reveals that education is overwhelmingly the strongest element emphasized across the five cities and that students constitute the most salient and central element in the majority of the advertisements.

Adventure comics were one of the most popular forms of escapism for young people during the harsh period following the Spanish Civil War, until they were replaced by television in the 1960s. The heroes of these comic booklets faced all sorts of threats and monsters, often including dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and other animals from the past which proved ideal for personifying all the horrors that readers had to deal with on a daily basis, so they were destroyed in the cruellest way possible. As these were extinct and largely unknown creatures, the scriptwriters and artists had to use a considerable amount of imagination to fill in their many gaps. A sample of about five hundred pages of Spanish comic booklets featuring different reptiles of the past is analysed here to examine which species were favoured by readers, their role in these comics, and the general palaeontological ignorance that they often revealed. During the Ross procedure, an aortic heart valve is replaced by a patient's own pulmonary valve. The pulmonary autograft subsequently undergoes substantial growth and remodeling (G&R) due to its exposure to increased hemodynamic loads. In this study, we developed a homogenized constrained mixture model to understand the observed adaptation of the autograft leaflets in response to the changed hemodynamic environment. This model was based on the hypothesis that tissue G&R aims to preserve mechanical homeostasis for each tissue constituent. To model the Ross procedure, we simulated the exposure of a pulmonary valve to aortic pressure conditions and the subsequent G&R of the valve. Specifically, we investigated the effects of assuming either stress- or stretch-based mechanical homeostasis, the use of blood pressure control, and the effect of root dilation. With this model, we could explain different observations from published clinical studies, such as the increase in thickness, change in collagen organization, and change in tissue composition. In addition, we found that G&R based on stress-based homeostasis could better capture the observed changes in tissue composition than G&R based on stretch-based homeostasis, and that root dilation or blood pressure control can result in more leaflet elongation. Finally, our model demonstrated that successful adaptation can only occur when the mechanically induced tissue deposition is sufficiently larger than tissue degradation, such that leaflet thickening overrules leaflet dilation. In conclusion, our findings demonstrated that G&R based on mechanical homeostasis can capture the observed heart valve adaptation after the Ross procedure. Robert Baker is generally acknowledged to have written the first English usage guide in 1770, but in 1752, George Harris published a short pamphlet called Observations upon the English Language in a Letter to Friend that shares many features of a usage guide. Though smaller than Baker's book, Harris's pamphlet nonetheless collects some 66–126 usage items (depending on how one counts categories and instances) and pronounces his preference for one of the variants within each item. Harris's Observations upon the English Language starts out mainly as a proposal for respelling several words in English, but ends up also prescribing variants for pronunciation, grammar, word meaning, and phrasing. Harris seems to have taken his impetus from an earlier pamphlet published in 1724 (The Many Advantages of a Good Language to Any Nation) that calls for just such codifying of usage issues. In many ways Harris's Observations upon the English Language looks at least like a precursor to the English usage guide and may be a usage guide itself. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present research aims to examine whether the questions in the Program for the International Student Assessment (PISA) 2009 reading literacy instrument display differential item functioning (DIF) among the Turkish, French, and American samples based on univariate and multivariate matching techniques before and after the total score, which is the matching variable, is purified of the items flagged with DIF. The study is a correlational survey model research, and the participants of the study consist of 4459 Turkish, French, and American students who took booklets 1, 3, 4, and 6 in the PISA 2009 reading literacy measure. Univariate and multivariate (bivariate, trivariate, and quadrivariate) DIF analyses were performed through logistic regression before and after purifying the matching variable off the items displaying DIF. Literature was used to detect extra matching variables, and multiple linear regression analysis was carried out. As a result of the analyses, it was discovered that using extra matching variables apart from the total score reduces type I errors. It was also concluded that the exclusion of DIF items (removal of items with DIF) while calculating the total score led to variation in the number of questions detected as DIF and DIF levels of the items, although it did not yield consistent results. Polio vaccine hesitancy remains high in Pakistan due to various socio-political, religious, and economic factors. To address this, the government of Pakistan and its international partners such as UNICEF have devised a multipronged communication strategy to counter resistance to polio vaccine in hard-to-reach areas of the country. In this strategy, mainstream news media has been identified as a key stakeholder, as they have the potential to reach a wide range of population and disseminate easy to understand messages including both visuals and text. However, less scholarly attention has been paid to how mainstream news media in Pakistan frame polio and polio vaccine in their visuals. This study aims to fill this gap. Using visual framing as a theoretical framework, we analyzed 115 images from three selected newspapers published from 2010 to 2022. Our results suggest that the newspapers depicted hard-to-reach areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province which were more affected by polio and highlighted the criminality and securitization of polio vaccine in the country. In addition, female polio healthcare workers, who are instrumental in eradicating the disease, have been given marginal coverage, reflecting the importance of gender sensitivity in the region. The way children experience a medical visit lays the groundwork for their health education and fosters trust and comfort in healthcare relationships. This study employed a retrospective and narrative-based design to analyze how children perceived their experiences of visits to their doctor, how they describe their emotions, and how they portray the different relationships within the doctor-caregiver-patient triad. Three hundred fifty students (50.75% female, 8–13 years, Mage = 10.5, SD = 5.93, 77.95% from primary school) completed a booklet comprising different narrative activities. The booklet underwent quantitative content analysis according to gender and school level. Children reported that the doctors primarily addressed their caregivers when asking for and delivering health-related information, while their role was mostly passive. Meeting with friendly doctors and being in a welcoming environment were associated with a positive medical experience, while negative emotions and encounters with unsympathetic practitioners contributed to negative experiences. Most respondents wanted to talk privately with their doctors at their next visit. Some examples and practices are discussed to enable healthcare practitioners to create an environment where children are heard and valued, and their involvement during consultation processes is enhanced. Background: Smoking is a significant global public health concern, presenting substantial risks to individuals' health. Smoking cessation is essential for improving patients' well-being, and nurses play a critical role in assisting patients to quit smoking. However, there is a lack of research on nurses' specialized roles in smoking cessation interventions for patients. Objective: To define the specific responsibilities of nurses in facilitating smoking cessation among patients, and provide guidance for future nursing interventions in smoking cessation. Methods: The scoping review process was conducted for Arksey and O'Malley's framework. Based on the three-step search strategy of Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI), a comprehensive search was performed across ten databases including PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, OVID, PsycINFO, CNKI, Wan Fang Data Knowledge Service Platform, and VIP Database for Chinese Technical Periodicals, covering studies from the inception of the databases to February 2024. The inclusion and exclusion criteria were developed using the JBI (participants, content, and context) principle. Randomized controlled trials or quasi-experimental studies with nurse-led or involved smoking cessation interventions for patients were included. Data extraction was conducted independently by two reviewers. The findings were reported following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Results: In total, 53 studies were eligible for the final charting and synthesis. The analysis identified six key roles that nurses played in smoking cessation interventions: assessors, educators, practice facilitators, coordinating collaborators, organizers, and supervisors. Among these, the roles of assessors, educators, and practice facilitators were the most commonly reported. The motivation interview and 5A method were the predominant techniques employed for smoking cessation. Nurses primarily promoted smoking cessation through the distribution of pamphlets, face-to-face education, and the provision of smoking cessation guidance. The primary participants in these studies were patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Conclusions: Nurses play an indispensable role in smoking cessation interventions, occupying multiple critical roles. However, this review identified a gap in the pre-intervention training of nurses, indicating a need for enhanced training programs to better prepare nurses for effective smoking cessation interventions. The use of leaflets is one of the old methods used during wars, and it was a traditional method; due to the lack of other advertising methods, but with the modern development and spread of technology, whether through print or visual media and social networks, the use of leaflets has decreased. Publications vary according to their content and presentation, as there are leaflets for political propaganda and other leaflets for psychological support, and others for security warnings, human communication, medical and safety instructions. In the events of the Al-Aqsa Flood, Israel used leaflets extensively, as it dropped them from time to time on the residents of the Gaza Strip. Hence, this study aims to identify Israel’s purpose in publishing these leaflets and dropping them on the residents of the Gaza Strip, and classify the types to which these leaflets belong; to determine Israel's purposes in dropping them, and the extent of the impact or response of the people of Gaza to what was stated in these leaflets. The study is based on three sections as follows: The first section: The history of the use of leaflets in wars and their types. ABSTRACT: Background: Consent is never truly exercised in children as parents act as their proxy and often do not understand the advantages, disadvantages, risks, and benefits of the procedure. Their high anxiety state is mirrored in the child, leading to slower recovery. Hence, this study was designed to understand if an intervention can impact the effect of consent on parents' anxiety, satisfaction, and knowledge. Methodology: A two-arm, parallel design, randomized controlled trial was conducted from March 2020 to March 2022 to analyze the effect of an educational video in comparison to an informational leaflet in parents giving proxy consents for various listed pediatric surgical procedures. Results: Parents in the video group had a higher mean knowledge score (6.97 vs. 6.77, P = 0.40), comparable satisfaction scores (27.45 vs. 27.58, P = 0.88), and statistically insignificant difference between anxiety scores. We noted highest score of satisfaction (28.5/40) in the parents educated up to High School level or less. Knowledge scores were lowest in pelvic-ureteric junction obstruction (5.1/10) patients. Conclusions: Our study done over a period of 2 years included a variety of diagnoses, and the videos and information leaflets were self-designed. Objectives: This study evaluated the impact of self-management interventions based on the COM-B model on peri-implant conditions in older adults with periodontitis. Materials and methods: The patients were randomly divided into two groups: Group 1 (control group) received only an oral health education (OHE) pamphlet. Group 2 (test group) performed a self-management intervention based on the COM-B model. Each patient was examined for the most inflammatory implant. The measurement parameters included self-efficacy, self-management ability, and clinical indicators such as probing depth (PD), bleeding on probing (BOP), modified gingival index (mGI), modified plaque index (mPI), and peri-implant mucositis severity score (PMSS). The data was collected at baseline, 4, 8, and 12 weeks. Results: 42 patients underwent testing for 3 months. After 12 weeks, the improvement of self-efficacy, self-management ability, and the reduction of BOP, mPI, and PMSS in the test group was significantly higher than in the control group. Conclusion: The study suggests that self-management interventions based on the COM-B model can enhance the self-management ability of older adults with periodontitis and reduce peri-implant inflammation. This method is more effective than distributing OHE pamphlets. ABSTRACT People living with mental illnesses (MI) have a specific need that requires tailored tobacco treatment (TT) information to be delivered in a desirable, appropriate, and acceptable manner to increase their receptivity. In this mixed‐method study, we aimed to develop tailored TT pamphlets for people with MI. In Phase I, we explored perspectives on tailored TT information from mental health providers (MHPs) and individuals with MI. In Phase II, we assessed the desirability, applicability, and acceptability of the developed tailored TT pamphlets. Semistructured interviews were used to obtain qualitative and quantitative data from 16 MHPs and 13 individuals with MIs recruited from an inpatient psychiatric facility. Thematic analysis and descriptive statistics were used to synthesize the data. The study guides the development of effective approaches, presentations, and content to enhance TT engagement for people with MI. The proposed tailored TT pamphlets proved desirable, applicable, and acceptable for individuals with MI. We recommend developing tailored TT information for people with MI in collaboration with MHPs and the target audience. Clear, concise communication is crucial, ensuring desirability, applicability, and acceptability. This article presents three rediscovered letters written between 1849 and 1851 by the great Victorian man of letters Thomas Carlyle (1795–1881). In these letters Carlyle sets out his views on the importance of a system of universal non-sectarian and national education as well as declares his support for the Lancashire Public School Association and its successor the National Public School Association. Together these letters shed new light on the sections regarding education in Carlyle's famous published works "Chartism" (1839) "Past and Present" (1843) and "Latter-Day Pamphlets" (1850) while suggesting that he continued to show substantial affinities with advanced liberal and radical opinion on this particular issue despite the common belief that he became an out-and-out reactionary in later life. Muiris MacGiollabhuí explores the ways in which the United Irishmen's use of pamphlets and petitions—classic instruments of eighteenth-century politicking—played an important role in their transition from rebellious subjects in Ireland to Painite cosmopolitans in the United States. This process, one of deradicalization, was informed by an international network of thinkers, from Thomas Paine to James Callender. The United Irishmen drew inspiration from Painite cosmopolitanism and applied it in the United States, and in doing so, helped lay the groundwork for a new political identity that stressed their legitimacy as American subjects. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of the Israeli Lifestyle Program (ILP) on older adults' quality of life (QoL) and depressive symptoms. The study employed a non-randomized controlled pre-post intervention design, (N = 99), ages 60+ years, living independently in the community. The ILP group (n = 79) participated in 15 weekly group meetings and two individual sessions. The control group (n = 20) received an educational booklet based on the ILP content. Participants completed the (WHOQoL-BREF) and a Personal Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) pre and post intervention. At baseline, no significant differences were found between the groups. Post-intervention, the ILP group values improved in the psychological (p <.001, η2 =.154), social relationship (p <.001, η2 =.131), and environmental (p =.002, η2 =.105) domains of the WHOQoL- BREF, whereas no change was found in these domains among the control group. Physical QoL increased beyond group (p =.020, η2 =.056), although not significantly. ILP participants showed no change in the depressive symptom report (p =.424, η2 =.007), whereas participants in the control group, reported more depressive symptoms (p =.009, η2 =.070). Purpose: Access to credible information can facilitate parental engagement in wheelchair prescription for their child with a neuromuscular condition (NMC). In this study, we developed and evaluated acceptability, perceived usefulness and emotional responses to a psychoeducational booklet for parents of children with a NMC. Methods: Australian parents of children who had been recommended a wheelchair and clinicians caring for children with NMCs were invited to evaluate the booklet, Getting Wheels. The booklet included 11 chapters, each covering distinct aspects of wheelchair prescription and supportive care. Participants completed one online survey including validated and study-specific measures. Results: Twenty-seven parents (71% response rate, 78% mothers) and nine clinicians (90% response rate, 89% women) participated. All parents endorsed the booklet as addressing their information and support needs, and 93% agreed it would help parents engage in the wheelchair prescription process. All clinicians endorsed the booklet as addressing parents' information and support needs and agreed they could use the booklet in clinical practice. Conclusions: Parents and clinicians rate Getting Wheels as acceptable for use in the context of wheelchair recommendation for children with a neuromuscular condition. Next steps include prospective examination of booklet use in clinical practice and adaptation to culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Implications for rehabilitation: The co-designed "Getting Wheels" booklet provides tailored information for use in the context of wheelchair recommendation for children with a neuromuscular condition. The emotions elicited throughout wheelchair prescription endorse the need for integrated psychosocial multidisciplinary care to improve access and support the ongoing emotional needs of this population. Parents of children who receive wheelchair recommendation between zero and two years require greater support from clinicians regarding their thoughts and feelings about wheelchair prescription. Ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) occurs from incomplete coaptation of the mitral valve (MV) after myocardial infarction (MI), typically worsened by continued remodeling of the left ventricular (LV). The importance of LV remodeling is clear as IMR is induced by the post-MI dual mechanisms of mitral annular dilation and leaflet tethering from papillary muscle (PM) distension via the MV chordae tendineae (MVCT). However, the detailed etiology of IMR remains poorly understood, in large part due to the complex interactions of the MV and the post-MI LV remodeling processes. Given the patient-specific anatomical complexities of the IMR disease processes, simulation-based approaches represent an ideal approach to improve our understanding of this deadly disease. However, development of patient-specific models of left ventricle–mitral valve (LV–MV) interactions in IMR are complicated by the substantial variability and complexity of the MR etiology itself, making it difficult to extract underlying mechanisms from clinical data alone. To address these shortcomings, we developed a detailed ovine LV-MV finite element (FE) model based on extant comprehensive ovine experimental data. First, an extant ovine LV FE model (Sci. Rep. 2021 Jun 29;11(1):13466) was extended to incorporate the MV using a high fidelity ovine in vivo derived MV leaflet geometry. As it is not currently possible to image the MVCT in vivo, a functionally equivalent MVCT network was developed to create the final LV-MV model. Interestingly, in pilot studies, the MV leaflet strains did not agree well with known in vivo MV leaflet strain fields. We then incorporated previously reported MV leaflet prestrains (J. Biomech. Eng. 2023 Nov 1;145(11):111002) in the simulations. The resulting LV-MV model produced excellent agreement with the known in vivo ovine MV leaflet strains and deformed shapes in the normal state. We then simulated the effects of regional acute infarctions of varying sizes and anatomical locations by shutting down the local myocardial contractility. The remaining healthy (noninfarcted) myocardium mechanical behaviors were maintained, but allowed to adjust their active contractile patterns to maintain the prescribed pressure–volume loop behaviors in the acute post-MI state. For all cases studied, the LV-MV simulation demonstrated excellent agreement with known LV and MV in vivo strains and MV regurgitation orifice areas. Infarct location was shown to play a critical role in resultant MV leaflet strain fields. Specifically, extensional deformations of the posterior leaflets occurred in the posterobasal and laterobasal infarcts, while compressive deformations of the anterior leaflet were observed in the anterobasal infarct. Moreover, the simulated posterobasal infarct induced the largest MV regurgitation orifice area, consistent with experimental observations. The present study is the first detailed LV-MV simulation that reveals the important role of MV leaflet prestrain and functionally equivalent MVCT for accurate predictions of LV–MV interactions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nursing interventions applied to elderly individuals to improve rational use of medicines (RUM) and awareness through home visits. It was carried out in a prospective, randomized controlled experimental design with the pretest–post-test control group. The study was completed with 74 elderly individuals aged ≥65 years living in a rural area. The intervention group received education, counselling, brochures and pill boxes through home visits to increase RUM and awareness. The study data were collected between September and December 2022 using the face-to-face interview method, the elderly identification form, the Rational Use of Medicines Scale and the Rational Drug Use Awareness Scale. After nursing interventions were applied at home, it was determined that, the mean scores of RUM and Awareness of RUM of the intervention group increased compared to the control group and that, interventions to improve RUM and awareness were effective. In line with these results, training sessions on RUM should be organized periodically for elderly individuals and home visits should be planned by nurses at regular intervals to ensure the sustainability of RUM in the home environment. Background Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)-in-TAVR within index supra-annular transcatheter heart valves (THVs) and high-risk anatomy can compromise coronary perfusion and re-access. Case summary An 80-year-old male presented with acute heart failure caused by degeneration of an Evolut R THV, leading to severe aortic regurgitation. Aortic computed tomography imaging revealed a high-risk anatomy characterized by the index THV's commissural plane being placed above the coronary ostia and a valve-to-aorta distance of less than 2 mm, resulting not eligible for redo-TAVR according to recent literature. The current case represents the first-in-human application of redo-TAVR with low SAPIEN 3 THV implantation within an Evolut R THV obtaining index leaflet overhang, preserving coronary perfusion and potential coronary re-engagement. Discussion Following in vitro study, this case demonstrates in vivo feasibility of redo-TAVR with low SAPIEN 3 THV implantation within an Evolut R THV obtaining index leaflet overhang. Abstract Background Connecting end-users to research evidence has the power to improve patient knowledge and inform health decision-making. Differences in the culture and language of the end users may shape the effectiveness of knowledge mobilization (KMb). This scoping review set out to understand current approaches and methods when creating or adapting KMb products for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) audiences. Methods We searched 3 databases (Ovid Medline, CINAHL via EBSCOhost, PsychINFO) from 2011 until August 2023. We included any literature about KMb product creation or adaptation processes serving CALD communities. A primary reviewer screened all identified publications and a second reviewer screened publications excluded by the primary. Data were extracted using a standardized form by one reviewer and verified by a second reviewer. Studies were categorized by type of adaptations (‘surface’ and/or ‘deep’ structure) and mapped based on type of stakeholder engagement used in the research approach (i2S model), and end-user involvement (content, design, evaluation and dissemination) in KMb product creation or adaptation. Results Ten thousand two hundred ninety-nine unique titles and abstracts were reviewed, 670 full-text studies were retrieved and reviewed, and 78 studies were included in final data extraction and mapping. Twenty-four studies (31%) created or adapted exclusively text-based KMb products such as leaflets and pamphlets and 49 (63%) produced digital products such as videos (n = 16, 33%), mobile applications (n = 14, 29%), and eHealth websites (n = 7, 14%). Twenty-five studies (32%) reported following a framework or theory for their creation or adaptation efforts. Twenty-eight studies (36%) engaged stakeholders in the research approach. Nearly all (96%) involved end-users in creating or adapting the KMb products through involvement in content development (n = 64), design features (n = 52), evaluation (n = 44) and dissemination (n = 20). Thirty-two (41%) studies included reflections from the research teams on the processes for creating or adapting KMb products for CALD communities. Conclusion Included studies cited a variety of methods to create or adapt KMb products for CALD communities. Successful uptake of created or adapted KMb products was often the result of collaboration and involvement with end-users for more applicable, accessible and meaningful products. Further research developing guidance and best practices is needed to support the creation or adaptation of KMb products with CALD communities. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health threat. This randomized controlled trial evaluates the impact of experiential virtual reality (VR) versus information provision via VR or leaflet on prudent antibiotic use. A total of 249 (239 analyzed) participants were randomized into three conditions: VR Information + Experience, VR Information, or Leaflet Information. All participants received AMR information, while those in the VR Information + Experience condition additionally engaged in a game, making treatment decisions for their virtual avatar's infection. Participants in the VR Information + Experience condition showed a significant increase in prudent use intentions from baseline (d = 1.48). This increase was significantly larger compared to the VR Information (d = 0.50) and Leaflet Information (d = 0.79) conditions. The increase in intentions from baseline remained significant at follow-up in the VR Information + Experience condition (d = 1.25). This article reflects on the dynamics of the public sphere in the early modern period by analyzing the figure of the peasant and the notion of the common(s) in dialogue pamphlets. Beginning with a discussion of what it means to speak of a public sphere in relation to the early modern period it examines one of the most famous Reformation dialogues Karst-hans published anonymously in 1521 in Strasbourg. Just before the German Peasants' War (1524–26) the Lutheran dialogue polemically directed against the theologian and satirist Thomas Murner positions the peasant as a critically mature citizen with the hoe (Karst) symbolizing his potential militancy. This article specifically draws on the notion of publicity that the dialogue articulates. Using it as an example this article analyzes the transitions and mutual projections between fiction urban culture and peasant protest the structures of which are significant for the literary representation of agrarian protest far beyond the Reformation. In its final section this article closely examines the media genre of the dialogue pamphlet and outlines some horizons of its historical development up to the Enlightenment concerning its political use and its relation to the ideal of a dialogic and socially leveled public sphere. By arguing that there existed an implicit ideal of the public sphere as a common good in the early modern period the aim is also to clarify what distinguishes this early modern understanding of the public sphere from its conceptualization as a marketplace that has dominated our understanding of it since the Enlightenment. Leaflet mobilization is an important part of rheumatic mitral valve disease repair. Conventional commissurotomy techniques may not allow leaflet mobilization in some patients. We described a new technique for adequate mobilization of the posterior leaflet. First, we performed mitral commissurotomy in both commissures. The posterior leaflet was then separated from the posterior annulus from the anterolateral commissure to the posteromedial commissure. Tertiary and secondary chordae were removed. The posterior leaflet was divided vertically into two parts. After removal of the fibrous attachments, the pericardial patch was sutured to the entire posterior leaflet. The artificial chordae were re-implanted in the neo-P2 region of the porterior leaflet to achieve good coaptation. We did not use a ring after the mitral valve repair was completed. This study is a randomized controlled interventional study aimed to determine the effect of preoperative brochure‐assisted education on surgical fear and anxiety in patients scheduled for septorhinoplasty surgery. The study was conducted between May 2022 and February 2023 in the Otorhinolaryngology services and clinics of a training and research hospital in the southern region of Turkey. The study included 61 patients, with 29 in the education group and 32 in the control group. All patients received routine nursing care before surgery, with the education group receiving additional education through an informative brochure. The data were collected using the "Personal Information Form", "Surgical Fear Questionnaire", and "Surgical Anxiety Questionnaire". There was no significant difference in the mean scores of surgical fear between the groups on the morning of the surgery (p > 0.05). However, a significant difference was found in the mean scores of surgical anxiety between the groups (p < 0.05). Following the collapse of the Delahoyde and Lucett joint enterprise, James Lucett resumed practice on his own account. He continued to implement his 'process', promoting it as a unique cure for intractable cases of insanity. For two decades he pursued his activities, with varying success, at different locations in the London area. He maintained his public profile by extensive advertising, letters to newspapers and published pamphlets, extolling his unique 'discovery' and recounting claims of successful cures achieved. Accusations of quackery persisted along with other hostile criticism, particularly from medical men, which Lucett strongly challenged. Periodically he faced more serious difficulties due to legal infractions or financial hardships, but somehow Lucett survived most of these and persevered with his endeavours. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this article is to show that the popular print sold and distributed during and after festive events, such as Carnival, had an impact on the commemoration and shaping of festive culture in early modern Italy. That is, the mass medium of print that had begun to shape European cultures, especially in Italy where Venice was one of Europe's first major printing centres, created festive pamphlets and small books that were attractive for individuals in various cities in Northern and Central Italy. This becomes apparent not only from the sources themselves but also from the connections that exist between these sources and historical and theatrical contexts. A study of popular print related to festive events addresses the most important criticisms of festival studies, namely that festivals were primarily local affairs, which would prevent researchers from making a meaningful contribution to festive culture studies on a larger scale. This article aims to overcome this by studying a selection of affordable pamphlets and small books, presenting the Carnivalesque text La guerra di Carnovale contro la Quaresima, which was intended for large audiences. Rationale: Workplace attitudes among nurses with back pain disability are usually unsupportive as nurses tend to rely on passive approaches like pain medications and taking sick leave to manage the impact of their back pain experiences. Aims and Objectives: To lessen the burden of back pain disability, this paper aimed to collate information from publicly accessible health resources such as posters, pamphlets, and electronic resources and cross‐culturally validate this information for nurses in Zambia. Methods: Focus group discussions were used to produce the validation data for this study's qualitative research design. For cross‐cultural validation, deductive analysis was carried out using Herdman's framework for Conceptual Equivalence, Item Equivalence, and Semantic Equivalence. Results and Conclusion: The 14 messages on back pain given to the participants were reviewed to enhance clarity, applicability, and acceptability. Messages with similar meanings were merged, reducing the total number to 7. The revisions made to the 14 back pain messages aimed to improve understanding, acceptability, and relevance within the contexts and circumstances in which nurses' practice. This is important because the messages adapted for use in low‐ and middle‐income countries like Zambia are equivalent and applicable to those originally developed in high‐income countries.
