As a new generation of transportation, electric vehicles play an important role in carbon-peak targets. The development of electric vehicles needs the support of a charging network, and improper planning of charging stations will result in a waste of resources. In order to expand the charging network of electric vehicles and give full play to the low-carbon and efficient characteristics of electric vehicles, this paper proposed a charging station planning method that considers the characteristics of carbon emission trends. This paper combined the long short-term memory (LSTM) network with the stochastic impacts by regression on population, affluence, and technology (STIRPAT) model to predict the carbon emission trend and quantified the correlation between the construction speed of a charging station and the evolution characteristics of carbon emission by Pearson's correlation coefficient. A multi-stage charging station planning model was established, which captures the dynamic characteristics of the charging demand of the transportation network and determines the station deployment scheme with economic and low-carbon benefits on the spatiotemporal scale. The Pareto frontier was solved by using the elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm. The model and solution algorithm were verified by the actual road network in a certain area of Shanghai. The results showed that the proposed scheme can meet the charging demand of regional electric vehicles in the future, improve the utilization rate of charging facilities, and reduce the carbon emission of transportation networks. In this paper, a new torque sharing function control strategy is proposed to reduce the torque ripple. The traditional torque ripple methods, such as exponential and linear torque allocation strategies, the torque generation capacity of each phase and the power limitation of the power converter is not taken into account, in this paper, the communication region is divided into three intervals by establishing a new partitioning standard. According to the re-established reference function of torque generation, the torque deviation caused by phase current tracking error is compensated according to the torque generation capacity. Both optimization of torque ripple suppression and copper loss minimization are taken into consideration in this paper. To verify the validity and performances of the proposed TSF methods, simulations and experiments have been implemented in a 12/8 structure Switched Reluctance Motor prototype. This method can be applied to other switched reluctance motors with different topologies. Electroencephalography (EEG) is increasingly important in Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) systems due to its portability and simplicity. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive review of research on EEG signal processing techniques since 2021, with a focus on preprocessing, feature extraction, and classification methods. We analyzed 61 research articles retrieved from academic search engines, including CNKI, PubMed, Nature, IEEE Xplore, and Science Direct. For preprocessing, we focus on innovatively proposed preprocessing methods, channel selection, and data augmentation. Data augmentation is classified into conventional methods (sliding windows, segmentation and recombination, and noise injection) and deep learning methods [Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) and Variation AutoEncoder (VAE)]. We also pay attention to the application of deep learning, and multi-method fusion approaches, including both conventional algorithm fusion and fusion between conventional algorithms and deep learning. Our analysis identifies 35 (57.4%), 18 (29.5%), and 37 (60.7%) studies in the directions of preprocessing, feature extraction, and classification, respectively. We find that preprocessing methods have become widely used in EEG classification (96.7% of reviewed papers) and comparative experiments have been conducted in some studies to validate preprocessing. We also discussed the adoption of channel selection and data augmentation and concluded several mentionable matters about data augmentation. Furthermore, deep learning methods have shown great promise in EEG classification, with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) being the main structure of deep neural networks (92.3% of deep learning papers). We summarize and analyze several innovative neural networks, including CNNs and multi-structure fusion. However, we also identified several problems and limitations of current deep learning techniques in EEG classification, including inappropriate input, low cross-subject accuracy, unbalanced between parameters and time costs, and a lack of interpretability. Finally, we highlight the emerging trend of multi-method fusion approaches (49.2% of reviewed papers) and analyze the data and some examples. With the increasing prominence of environmental and energy issues, electric vehicles (EVs) as representatives of clean energy vehicles have experienced rapid development in recent years, and the charging load has also exhibited statistical characteristics. Accurate prediction of EV charging load is crucial to improve grid load dispatch and intelligent level. However, current research on EV charging load prediction still faces challenges such as data reliability, complexity and variability of charging behavior, uncertainty, and lack of standardization methods. Therefore, this paper proposes an electric vehicle charging load prediction method based on spectral clustering and deep learning network (SC-CNNLSTM). Firstly, to address the insufficient amount of EV charging load data, this paper proposes to use Monte Carlo simulation to sample and simulate historical load data. Then, in order to identify the internal structure and patterns of charging load, the sampled and simulated dataset is clustered using spectral clustering, dividing the data into different clusters, where each cluster represents samples with similar charging load characteristics. Finally, based on the different sample features of each cluster, corresponding CNN-LSTM models are constructed and trained and predict using the respective data. By modifying the model parameters, the prediction accuracy of the model is improved. Through comparative experiments, the proposed method in this paper has significantly improved prediction accuracy compared to traditional prediction methods without clustering, thus validating the effectiveness and practicality of the method. Modern and precision agriculture is constantly evolving, and the use of technology has become a critical factor in improving crop yields and protecting plants from harmful insects and pests. The use of neural networks is emerging as a new trend in modern agriculture that enables machines to learn and recognize patterns in data. In recent years, researchers and industry experts have been exploring the use of neural networks for detecting harmful insects and pests in crops, allowing farmers to act and mitigate damage. This paper provides an overview of new trends in modern agriculture for harmful insect and pest detection using neural networks. Using a systematic review, the benefits and challenges of this technology are highlighted, as well as various techniques being taken by researchers to improve its effectiveness. Specifically, the review focuses on the use of an ensemble of neural networks, pest databases, modern software, and innovative modified architectures for pest detection. The review is based on the analysis of multiple research papers published between 2015 and 2022, with the analysis of the new trends conducted between 2020 and 2022. In recent years, semantic segmentation in deep learning has been widely applied in medical image segmentation, leading to the development of numerous models. Convolutional Neural Network (CNNs) have achieved milestone achievements in medical image analysis. Particularly, deep neural networks based on U-shaped architectures and skip connections have been extensively employed in various medical image tasks. U-Net is characterized by its encoder-decoder architecture and pioneering skip connections, along with multi-scale features, has served as a fundamental network architecture for many modifications. But U-Net cannot fully utilize all the information from the encoder layer in the decoder layer. U-Net++ connects mid parameters of different dimensions through nested and dense skip connections. However, it can only alleviate the disadvantage of not being able to fully utilize the encoder information and will greatly increase the model parameters. In this paper, a novel BFNet is proposed to utilize all feature maps from the encoder at every layer of the decoder and reconnects with the current layer of the encoder. This allows the decoder to better learn the positional information of segmentation targets and improves learning of boundary information and abstract semantics in the current layer of the encoder. Our proposed method has a significant improvement in accuracy with 1.4 percent. Besides enhancing accuracy, our proposed BFNet also reduces network parameters. In response to the issue of short-term fluctuations in photovoltaic (PV) output due to Cloud movement, this paper proposes a method for forecasting short-term PV output based on a Depthwise Separable Convolution Visual Geometry Group (DSCVGG) and a Deep Gate Recurrent Neural Network (DGN). Initially, a cloud motion prediction model is constructed using a DSCVGG, which achieves edge recognition and motion prediction of clouds by replacing the previous convolution layer of the pooling layer in VGG with a depthwise separable convolution. Subsequently, the output results of the DSCVGG network, along with historical PV output data, are introduced into a Deep Gate Recurrent Unit Network (DGN) to establish a PV output prediction model, thereby achieving precise prediction of PV output. Through experiments on actual data, the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Mean Squared Error (MSE) of our model are only 2.18% and 5.32 x 10-5, respectively, which validates the effectiveness, accuracy, and superiority of the proposed method. With advancements in communication systems and measurement technologies, smart grids have become more observable and controllable, evolving into cyberphysical-power systems (CPPS). The impact of network security and secondary equipment on power system stability has become more evident. To support the existing grid toward a smart grid scenario, smart metering plays a vital role at the customer end side. Cyber-Physical systems are vulnerable to cyber-attacks and various techniques have been evolved to detect a cyber attack in the smart grid. Weighted trust-based models are suggested as one of the most effective security mechanisms. A hardware-in-loop CPPS co-simulation platform is established to facilitate the theoretical study of CPPS and the formulation of grid operation strategies. This paper examines current co-simulation platform schemes and highlights the necessity for a real-time hard-ware-in-the-loop platform to accurately simulate cyber-attack processes. This consideration takes into account the fundamental differences in modeling between power and communication systems. The architecture of the co-simulation platform based on RT-LAB and OPNET is described, including detailed modeling of the power system, communication system, and security and stability control devices. Additionally, an analysis of the latency of the co-simulation is provided. The paper focuses on modeling and implementing methods for addressing DDOS attacks and man-in-the-middle at-tacks in the communication network. In this paper, the No. 30201 working face of a specific colliery was determined as the study area in the Yushen mining area, China. The objective of this paper is to determine the optimal position for pressure regulation measures during the final mining stage. A mechanical calculation model for stabilized coal pillar was developed. The analytical solution for the front abutment pressure function was obtained. Limit equilibrium theory and beam theory were employed to compute the critical width value of the stabilized coal pillar. The analysis focused on examining the spatiotemporal relationship between the rotational deformation of the main roof and the stability of the retracement channel. The study utilized numerical simulation to investigate the failure characteristics of the surrounding rock and the stress redistribution in the stabilized coal pillar within the working face. Through comprehensive analysis, a reasonable width of 15 m for the stabilized coal pillar was determined and successfully implemented in field practices. A method of using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to select the stabilized coal pillar width was proposed. The input characteristics of ANN were determined through theoretical analysis. Four models of BP, WOA-BP, PSO-BP, and CPSO-BP were trained. The calculation accuracy of each model is evaluated by three quantitative metrics: MAE, MRE, and RMSE. The MAE value of the CPSOBP model is 0.9489, showing a reduction of 70.87% compared to the BP model, 55.84% compared to the WOA-BP model, and 51.26% compared to the PSOBP model. The MRE value is 0.0559, which is 71.51%, 56.29%, and 53.24% lower than the other models, respectively. The RMSE value is 1.0617, which is 68.92%, 56.13%, and 53.03% lower than other models, respectively. The four models were employed to compute the width of the stabilized coal pillar. The values for the BP, WOA-BP, PSO-BP, and CPSO-BP models were 12.7 m, 16.3 m, 14.1 m, and 15.2 m, respectively, indicating that the CPSO-BP model can effectively determine the width of the stabilized coal pillar. This paper presents a comparative study between traditional and intelligent Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms for Photovoltaic (PV) powered DC Shunt Motors. Given the nonlinearity of PV systems, they require nonstandard approaches to harness their full potential. Each PV module has a unique maximum power point on its IV curve due to its nonlinear characteristic nature. Power electronic converters are utilized to enable operation at that point. There are many different algorithms described in the introduction, each with its have their own advantages and drawbacks. Recognizing the potential enhancement of PV system efficiency through effective Maximum Power Point (MPP) tracking, this paper evaluates five MPPT methods under varying DC loads. The five algorithms will be as follows: Incremental Conductance and Perturb and Observe as traditional algorithms. Fuzzy Logic Control, Artificial Neural Networks, and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference Systems as Intelligent Algorithms. While traditional algorithms generally produced acceptable results except for Perturb & Observe, intelligent algorithms performed well under rapidly changing solar radiation conditions. Due to inadequate data, intelligent algorithms relying on data training struggled to track the maximum power point when the temperature changed due to inadequate data used for the training. The analysis focuses on the time required by each method to reach peak power under different load conditions, solar irradiance, and temperature variations. Drinking water treatment is a complex system of chemical, physical, and biological processes that is highly dependent on water quality and the design of the treatment process. To create decision-support tools, the prediction of key performance indicators, such as settled water turbidity, is needed. A variety of data-driven modeling techniques is available to formulate such predictions. Datadriven models provide valuable tools for formulating predictions where there is a lack of mechanistic models or the mechanisms are not fully understood, as in surface water treatment. The objective of this paper is to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of various data-driven techniques for this important, but difficult, problem. Recognizing that the size and quality of the dataset are most critical in this kind of analysis, this work uses one of the largest datasets used in this context consisting of 2,527 vectors of water quality and operational data (2,527 X nine data frame) from a full-scale water treatment plant. The paper constructs and compares the performance of the several data-driven models including k-nearest neighbor (KNN) regression, polynomial regression, and artificial neural networks (ANN). Based on test scaled root mean square error (RMSE), the ANN model was the most predictive (0.124). Similarly, the ANN model had the best predictive performance based on total scaled RMSE (0.086). These results show that ANNs have a high potential for the development of a future decision support system in selecting appropriate coagulant doses based on settled water turbidity. Load models have a significant influence on power system simulation. However, current load modeling approaches can hardly satisfy the diversity and time- varying characteristics of loads [including electric vehicles (EVs) and battery storage] in terms of model accuracy and computing efficiency. An online modeling method for composite load models based on measurement information is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the dominant factors in load model output are analyzed based on the active subspace of parameter space. Then the clustering algorithm is applied to cluster the large number of underlying loads based on the characteristics of load daily output curves. Finally, the underlying loads are equivalently aggregated from the low voltage levels to the high voltage levels to construct the composite load model. Simulation results obtained based on PSCAD/EMTDC demonstrate that the load model constructed by the proposed approach can accurately reflect the actual load characteristics of a power system. Aiming at the rapid development of anti-hypersonic collaborative interception technology, this paper designs an intelligent maneuver strategy of hypersonic vehicles (HV) based on deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to evade the collaborative interception by two interceptors. Under the meticulously designed collaborative interception strategy, the uncertainty and difficulty of evasion are significantly increased and the opportunity for maneuvers is further compressed. This paper, accordingly, selects the twin delayed deep deterministic gradient (TD3) strategy acting on the continuous action space and makes targeted improvements combining deep neural networks to grasp the maneuver strategy and achieve successful evasion. Focusing on the time-coordinated interception strategy of two interceptors, the three-player pursuit and evasion (PE) problem is modeled as the Markov decision process, and the double training strategy is proposed to juggle both interceptors. In reward functions of the training process, the energy saving factor is set to achieve the trade-off between miss distance and energy consumption. In addition, the regression neural network is introduced into the deep neural network of TD3 to enhance intelligent maneuver strategies’ generalization. Finally, numerical simulations are conducted to verify that the improved TD3 algorithm can effectively evade the collaborative interception of two interceptors under tough situations, and the improvements of the algorithm in terms of convergence speed, generalization, and energysaving effect are verified. Orchard monitoring is a vital direction of scientific research and practical application for increasing fruit production in ecological conditions. Recently, due to the development of technology and the decrease in equipment cost, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and artificial intelligence algorithms for image acquisition and processing has achieved tremendous progress in orchards monitoring. This paper highlights the new research trends in orchard monitoring, emphasizing neural networks, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and various concrete applications. For this purpose, papers on complex topics obtained by combining keywords from the field addressed were selected and analyzed. In particular, the review considered papers on the interval 2017-2022 on the use of neural networks (as an important exponent of artificial intelligence in image processing and understanding) and UAVs in orchard monitoring and production evaluation applications. Due to their complexity, the characteristics of UAV trajectories and flights in the orchard area were highlighted. The structure and implementations of the latest neural network systems used in such applications, the databases, the software, and the obtained performances are systematically analyzed. To recommend some suggestions for researchers and end users, the use of the new concepts and their implementations were surveyed in concrete applications, such as a) identification and segmentation of orchards, trees, and crowns; b) detection of tree diseases, harmful insects, and pests; c) evaluation of fruit production, and d) evaluation of development conditions. This paper proposes a novel deep learning model incorporating attention mechanisms for the analysis of slope stochastic fields. Initially, a deep learning model is designed to digitally image the stochastic field features of soil strength variability. This is achieved by discretizing the slope soil stochastic field using the Karhunen-Loeve expansion method and transforming the discrete results into digital images. These images are then used to establish a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) surrogate model that maps the implicit relationship between stochastic field images and slope functional function values, thus calculating the probability of slope failure. The precision of the CNN surrogate model is enhanced through Bayesian optimization and five-fold cross-validation. Moreover, to overcome the limitations of existing data-driven landslide stability prediction models, this study also introduces a Spatial-Temporal Attention (STA) mechanism. By combining the CNN with Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, the model can accurately approximate the actual results of slope stability calculations in scenarios of high-dimensional representation imaging of stochastic fields and low-probability slope instability. Developing photovoltaic (PV) and wind power is one of the most efficient approaches to reduce carbon emissions. Accumulating the PV and wind energy resources at different geographical locations can minimize total power output variance as injected into the power systems. To some extent, a low degree of the variance amplitude of the renewable resources can reduce the requirement of in-depth regulation and dispatch for the fossil fuel-based thermal power plants. Such an issue can alternatively reduce carbon emissions. Thus, the correlation problem by minimizing the variance of total PV and wind power plays a vital role in power system planning and operation. However, the synergistic effect of power output correlation is mainly considered on the generation side, and it is often neglected for the correlation relationship between the power grid components. To address this problem, this paper proposes a correlation coefficient analysis method for the power grid, which can quantify the relationship between energy storage and the probabilistic power flow (PPF) of the grid. Subsequently, to accelerate the mapping efficiency of power correlation coefficients, a novel deep neural network (DNN) optimized by multi-task learning and attention mechanism (MA-DNN) is developed to predict power flow fluctuations. Finally, the simulation results show that in IEEE 9-bus and IEEE14-bus systems, the strong correlation grouping percentage between the power correlation coefficients and power flow fluctuations reached 92% and 51%, respectively. The percentages of groups indicating weak correlation are 4% and 38%. In the modified IEEE 23-bus system, the computational accuracy of MA-DNN is improved by 37.35% compared to the PPF based on Latin hypercube sampling. Additionally, the MA-DNN regression prediction model exhibits a substantial improvement in assessing power flow fluctuations in the power grid, achieving a speed enhancement of 758.85 times compared to the conventional probability power flow algorithms. As the scale of the power grid expands and distributed energy sources are integrated, along with the emergence of random loads, topological control of distribution networks has become a novel means of control. Therefore, data- driven power flow calculations must be capable of rapidly and accurately computing power flow results even when there are changes in the network's topology. In this paper, a data-driven power flow calculation method is proposed to take topological changes into account. Based on initial loop data, we employ an undirected-graph delooping-backtracking method to generate a set of feasible topological samples. Using the Monte Carlo method on this basis, we generate feasible samples for the network's topology and power injection, thereby establishing a training dataset. By training a deep neural network on these samples and adjusting network parameters, we effectively address power flow calculations in the presence of topological changes. Case study results demonstrate that the data-driven power flow calculation method, considering topological changes, can rapidly and accurately compute power flow results when topology alterations occur. The time series data in many applications, for example, wind power and vehicle trajectory, show significant uncertainty. Using a single prediction value of wind power as feedback information for wind turbine control or unit commitment is not enough since the uncertainty of the prediction is not described. This paper addresses the uncertainty issue in time series data forecasting by proposing the novel interval reservoir computing method. The proposed interval reservoir computing can capture the underlying evolution of the stochastic dynamical system for time series data using the recurrent neural network (RNN). On the other hand, by formulating a chance-constrained optimization problem, interval reservoir computing outputs a set of parameters in the RNN, which maps to an interval of prediction values. The capacity of the interval is the smallest one satisfying the condition that the probability of having a prediction inside the interval is lower than the required level. The scenario approach solves the formulated chance-constrained optimization problem. We implemented an experimental data-based validation to evaluate the proposed method. The validation results show that the proposed interval reservoir computing can give a tight interval of time series data forecasting values for wind power and traffic trajectory. Introduction: Emotions play a critical role in human communication, exerting a significant influence on brain function and behavior. One effective method of observing and analyzing these emotions is through electroencephalography (EEG) signals. Although numerous studies have been dedicated to emotion recognition (ER) using EEG signals, achieving improved accuracy in recognition remains a challenging task. To address this challenge, this paper presents a deep-learning approach for ER using EEG signals. Background: ER is a dynamic field of research with diverse practical applications in healthcare, human-computer interaction, and affective computing. In ER studies, EEG signals are frequently employed as they offer a non-invasive and costeffective means of measuring brain activity. Nevertheless, accurately identifying emotions from EEG signals poses a significant challenge due to the intricate and non-linear nature of these signals. Methods: The present study proposes a novel approach for ER that encompasses multiple stages, including feature extraction, feature selection (FS) employing clustering, and classification using Dual-LSTM. To conduct the experiments, the DEAP dataset was employed, wherein a clustering technique was applied to Hurst’s view and statistical features during the FS phase. Ultimately, Dual-LSTM was employed for accurate ER. Results: The proposed method achieved a remarkable accuracy of 97.5% in accurately classifying emotions across four categories: arousal, valence, liking/ disliking, dominance, and familiarity. This high level of accuracy serves as strong evidence for the effectiveness of the deep-learning approach to emotion recognition (ER) utilizing EEG signals. Conclusion: The deep-learning approach proposed in this paper has shown promising results in emotion recognition using EEG signals. This method can be useful in various applications, such as developing more effective therapies for individuals with mood disorders or improving human-computer interaction by allowing machines to respond more intelligently to users’ emotional states. Human teams are able to easily perform collaborative manipulation tasks. However, simultaneously manipulating a large extended object for a robot and human is a difficult task due to the inherent ambiguity in the desired motion. Our approach in this paper is to leverage data from human-human dyad experiments to determine motion intent for a physical human-robot co-manipulation task. We do this by showing that the human-human dyad data exhibits distinct torque triggers for a lateral movement. As an alternative intent estimation method, we also develop a deep neural network based on motion data from human-human trials to predict future trajectories based on past object motion. We then show how force and motion data can be used to determine robot control in a human-robot dyad. Finally, we compare human-human dyad performance to the performance of two controllers that we developed for human-robot co-manipulation. The challenge of water level control in steam generators, particularly at low power levels, has always been a critical aspect of nuclear power plant operation. To address this issue, this paper introduces an IHA controller. This controller employs a CPI controller as the primary controller for direct water level control, coupled with an agent-based controller optimized through a DRL algorithm. The agent dynamically optimizes the parameters of the CPI controller in real-time based on the system's state, resulting in improved control performance. Firstly, a new observer information is obtained to get the accurate state of the system, and a new reward function is constructed to evaluate the status of the system and guide the agent's learning process. Secondly, a deep ResNet with good generalization performance is used as the approximator of action value function and policy function. Then, the DDPG algorithm is used to train the agent-based controller, and an advanced controller with good performance is obtained after training. Finally, the popular UTSG model is used to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm. The results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves rise times of 73.9 s, 13.6 s, and 16.4 s at low, medium, and high power levels, respectively. Particularly, at low power levels, the IHA controller can restore the water level to its normal state within 200 s. These performances surpass those of the comparative methods, indicating that the proposed method excels not only in water level tracking but also in anti-interference capabilities. In essence, the IHA controller can autonomously learn the control strategy and reduce its reliance on the expert system, achieving true autonomous control and delivering excellent control performance. Wind power generation has aroused widespread concern worldwide. Accurate prediction of wind speed is very important for the safe and economic operation of the power grid. This paper presents a short-term wind speed prediction model which includes data decomposition, deep learning, intelligent algorithm optimization, and error correction modules. First, the robust local mean decomposition (RLMD) is applied to the original wind speed data to reduce the non-stationarity of the data. Then, the salp swarm algorithm (SSA) is used to determine the optimal parameter combination of the bidirectional gated recurrent unit (BiGRU) to ensure prediction quality. In order to eliminate the predictable components of the error further, a correction module based on the improved salp swarm algorithm (ISSA) and deep extreme learning machine (DELM) is constructed. The exploration and exploitation capability of the original SSA is enhanced by introducing a crazy operator and dynamic learning strategy, and the input weights and thresholds in the DELM are optimized by the ISSA to improve the generalization ability of the model. The actual data of wind farms are used to verify the advancement of the proposed model. Compared with other models, the results show that the proposed model has the best prediction performance. Data pre-processing is required before data analysis, and 16 features are selected using a correlation-based feature selection method. In swimming, the posture and technique of athletes are crucial for improving performance. However, traditional swimming coaches often struggle to capture and analyze athletes' movements in real-time, which limits the effectiveness of coaching. Therefore, this paper proposes RL-CWtrans Net: a robot vision-driven multimodal swimming training system that provides precise and real-time guidance and feedback to swimmers. The system utilizes the Swin-Transformer as a computer vision model to effectively extract the motion and posture features of swimmers. Additionally, with the help of the CLIP model, the system can understand natural language instructions and descriptions related to swimming. The future electric loads in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) are increasing significantly, particularly in the Eastern Province of the KSA. These high-rise loads are primarily driven by the operational needs of the Saudi Arabian oil company Aramco, including oil refineries, and the infrastructures of the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) factories. This study aims to construct a nuclear power plant in that area to supplement and support the baseload currently covered by conventional generation units powered by fossil fuels within the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) operations. The objective function is to minimize the operational costs of the power systems to the greatest extent possible. This paper describes a case study conducted using the IBM CPLEX Optimizer software to compare the operational costs of KSA's power systems for a 24-h period. Two scenarios were considered and addressed: the first scenario without the inclusion of a nuclear power plant (NPP) and the second scenario with the inclusion of the NPP. The unit commitment problem was modeled for both scenarios. The obtained results revealed that the second scenario, which involved the penetration of the NPP, offered an optimal economic solution for operating KSA's power systems. By employing the CPLEX Optimizer software and analyzing the unit commitment problem, this study provides valuable insights into the economic advantages of integrating the NPP into the power systems of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The NPP shows viability in terms of minimizing the operational costs to 32.10 $/MWh compared to the first scenario where the operational costs were 42.10 $/MWh and resulted in almost 24% reduction in operational costs. In addition, the NPP is deemed as an optimal technology to contribute to the net zero goal by 2060, where it can reduce the reliance on fossil fuel power plants and contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions. Spiking neural networks (SNNs) offer a promising energy-efficient alternative to artificial neural networks (ANNs), in virtue of their high biological plausibility, rich spatial-temporal dynamics, and event-driven computation. The direct training algorithms based on the surrogate gradient method provide sufficient flexibility to design novel SNN architectures and explore the spatial-temporal dynamics of SNNs. According to previous studies, the performance of models is highly dependent on their sizes. Recently, direct training deep SNNs have achieved great progress on both neuromorphic datasets and large-scale static datasets. Notably, transformer-based SNNs show comparable performance with their ANN counterparts. Direct training of Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) on neuromorphic hardware has the potential to significantly reduce the energy consumption of artificial neural network training. SNNs trained with Spike Timing-Dependent Plasticity (STDP) benefit from gradient-free and unsupervised local learning, which can be easily implemented on ultra-low-power neuromorphic hardware. However, classification tasks cannot be performed solely with unsupervised STDP. In this paper, we propose Stabilized Supervised STDP (S2-STDP), a supervised STDP learning rule to train the classification layer of an SNN equipped with unsupervised STDP for feature extraction. S2-STDP integrates error-modulated weight updates that align neuron spikes with desired timestamps derived from the average firing time within the layer. Then, we introduce a training architecture called Paired Competing Neurons (PCN) to further enhance the learning capabilities of our classification layer trained with S2-STDP. PCN associates each class with paired neurons and encourages neuron specialization toward target or non-target samples through intra-class competition. We evaluate our methods on image recognition datasets, including MNIST, Fashion-MNIST, and CIFAR10. Results show that our methods outperform state-of-the-art supervised STDP learning rules, for comparable architectures and numbers of neurons. Further analysis demonstrates that the use of PCN enhances the performance of S2-STDP, regardless of the hyperparameter set and without introducing any additional hyperparameters. Backgrounds: Freezing of gait (FoG) is a common and debilitating symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD) that can lead to falls and reduced quality of life. Wearable sensors have been used to detect FoG, but current methods have limitations in accuracy and practicality. In this paper, we aimed to develop a deep learning model using pressure sensor data from wearable insoles to accurately detect FoG in PD patients. Methods: We recruited 14 PD patients and collected data frommultiple trials of a standardized walking test using the Pedar insole system. We proposed temporal convolutional neural network (TCNN) and applied rigorous data filtering and selective participant inclusion criteria to ensure the integrity of the dataset. We mapped the sensor data to a structured matrix and normalized it for input into our TCNN. We used a train-test split to evaluate the performance of the model. Results: We found that TCNN model achieved the highest accuracy, precision, sensitivity, specificity, and F1 score for FoG detection compared to othermodels. The TCNN model also showed good performance in detecting FoG episodes, even in various types of sensor noise situations. Conclusions: We demonstrated the potential of using wearable pressure sensors andmachine learningmodels for FoG detection in PD patients. The TCNNmodel showed promising results and could be used in future studies to develop a real-time FoG detection system to improve PD patients' safety and quality of life. Protein-Protein Interactions (PPIs) involves in various biological processes, which are of significant importance in cancer diagnosis and drug development. Computational based PPI prediction methods are more preferred due to their low cost and high accuracy. However, existing protein structure based methods are insufficient in the extraction of protein structural information. Furthermore, most methods are less interpretable, which hinder their practical application in the biomedical field. In this paper, we propose MGPPI, which is a Multiscale graph convolutional neural network model for PPI prediction. By incorporating multiscale module into the Graph Neural Network (GNN) and constructing multi convolutional layers, MGPPI can effectively capture both local and global protein structure information. For model interpretability, we introduce a novel visual explanation method named Gradient Weighted interaction Activation Mapping (Grad-WAM), which can highlight key binding residue sites. We evaluate the performance of MGPPI by comparing with state-of-the-arts methods on various datasets. Results shows that MGPPI outperforms other methods significantly and exhibits strong generalization capabilities on the multispecies dataset. As a practical case study, we predicted the binding affinity between the spike (S) protein of SARS-COV-2 and the human ACE2 receptor protein, and successfully identified key binding sites with known binding functions. Key binding sites mutation in PPIs can affect cancer patient survival statues. Therefore, we further verified Grad-WAM highlighted residue sites in separating patients survival groups in several different cancer type datasets. According to our results, some of the highlighted residues can be used as biomarkers in predicting patients survival probability. All these results together demonstrate the high accuracy and practical application value of MGPPI. Our method not only addresses the limitations of existing approaches but also can assists researchers in identifying crucial drug targets and help guide personalized cancer treatment. This paper aims to achieve bedrock geologic mapping in the overburden area using big data, distributed computing, and deep learning techniques. First, the satellite Bouguer gravity anomaly with a resolution of 2'x2' in the range of E66°E96°, N40°-N55° and 1:5000000 Asia-European geological map are used to design a dataset for bedrock prediction. Then, starting from the gravity anomaly formula in the spherical coordinate system, we deduce the non-linear functional between rock density ρ and rock mineral composition m, content p, buried depth h, diagenesis time t and other variables. We analyze the feasibility of using deep neural network to approximate the above nonlinear generalization. The problem of solving deep neural network parameters is transformed into a non-convex optimization problem. We give an iterative, gradient descentbased solution algorithm for the non-convex optimization problem. Utilizing neural architecture search (NAS) and human-designed approach, we propose a geological-geophysical mapping network (GGMNet). The dataset for the network consists of both gravity anomaly and a priori geological information. The network has fast convergence speed and stable iteration during the training process. It also has better performance than a single neural network search or human-designed architectures, with the mean pixel accuracy (MAP) = 63.1% and the frequency weighted intersection over union (FWIoU) = 42.88. A Ground Coupled Heat Pump (GCHP) is a highly energy efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system that utilises the ground as the heat source when heating and as the heat sink when cooling. This paper investigates GCHP systems with horizontal Ground Heat Exchangers (GHEs) in the rural industry, exemplifying the technology for poultry (chicken) sheds in Australia. This investigation aims to provide an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model that can be used for GCHP design at various locations with different climates. To this extent, a Transient System Simulation Tool (TRNSYS) model for a typical horizontal GHE applied in a rural farm was first verified. Using this model, over 700,000 hourly performance data items were obtained, covering over 80 different yearly loading patterns under three different climate conditions. The simulated performance data was then used to train the ANN. As a result, the trained ANN can predict the performance of GCHP systems with identical (multiple) GHEs even under climatic conditions (and locations) that have not been specifically trained for. Unlike other works, the newly introduced ANN model is accurate even with limited types of input data, with high accuracy (less than 5% error in most cases tested). Introduction: With the development of artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technology, the application of motion recognition in automotive autonomous driving is becoming more and more important. The traditional feature extraction method uses adaptive search hybrid learning and needs to design the feature extraction process manually, which is difficult to meet the recognition requirements in complex environments. Methods: In this paper, a fusion algorithm is proposed to classify the driving characteristics through time-frequency analysis, and perform backpropagation operation in artificial neural network to improve the convergence speed of the algorithm. The performance analysis experiments of the study were carried out on Autov data sets, and the results were compared with those of the other three algorithms. Results: When the vehicle action coefficient is 227, the judgment accuracy of the four algorithms is 0.98, 0.94, 0.93 and 0.95, respectively, indicating that the fusion algorithm is stable. When the road sample is 547, the vehicle driving ability of the fusion algorithm is 4.7, which is the best performance among the four algorithms, indicating that the fusion algorithm has strong adaptability. Discussion: The results show that the fusion algorithm has practical significance in improving the autonomous operation ability of autonomous vehicles, reducing the frequency of vehicle accidents during driving, and contributing to the development of production, life and society. Introduction: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a stage between health and dementia, with various symptoms including memory, language, and visuospatial impairment. Chiropractic, a manual therapy that seeks to improve the function of the body and spine, has been shown to affect sensorimotor processing, multimodal sensory processing, and mental processing tasks. Methods: In this paper, the effect of chiropractic intervention on Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals in patients with mild cognitive impairment was investigated. EEG signals from two groups of patients with mild cognitive impairment (n = 13 people in each group) were recorded pre- and post-control and chiropractic intervention. A comparison of relative power was done with the support vector machine (SVM) method and non-parametric cluster-based permutation test showing the two groups could be separately identified with high accuracy. Results: The highest accuracy was obtained in beta2 (25–35 Hz) and theta (4–8 Hz) bands. A comparison of different brain areas with the SVM method showed that the intervention had a greater effect on frontal areas. Also, interhemispheric coherence in all regions increased significantly after the intervention. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed that intrahemispheric coherence changes in frontal-occipital, frontal-temporal and right temporal-occipital regions were significantly different in two groups. Discussion: Comparison of the results obtained from chiropractic intervention and previous studies shows that chiropractic intervention can have a positive effect on MCI disease and using this method may slow down the progression of mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s disease. In underwater environments, the accurate estimation of state features for passive object is a critical aspect of various applications, including underwater robotics, surveillance, and environmental monitoring. This study presents an innovative neuro computing approach for instantaneous state features reckoning of passive marine object following dynamic Markov chains. This paper introduces the potential of intelligent Bayesian regularization backpropagation neuro computing (IBRBNC) for the precise estimation of state features of underwater passive object. The proposed paradigm combines the power of artificial neural network with Bayesian regularization technique to address the challenges associated with noisy and limited underwater sensor data. The IBRBNC paradigm leverages deep neural networks with a focus on backpropagation to model complex relationships in the underwater environment. Furthermore, Bayesian regularization is introduced to incorporate prior knowledge and mitigate overfitting, enhancing the model's robustness and generalization capabilities. This dual approach results in a highly adaptive and intelligent system capable of accurately estimating the state features of passive object in real-time. To evaluate the efficacy of this intelligent computing approach, a controlled supervised maneuvering trajectory for underwater passive object is constructed. Real-time estimations of location, velocity, and turn rate for dynamic target are scrutinized across five distinct scenarios by varying the Gaussian observed noise's standard deviation, aiming to minimize mean square errors (MSEs) between real and estimated values. The effectiveness of the proposed IBRBNC paradigm is demonstrated through extensive simulations and experimental trials. Results showcase its superiority over traditional nonlinear filtering methods like interacting multiple model extended Kalman filter (IMMEKF) and interacting multiple model unscented Kalman filter (IMMUKF), especially in the presence of noise, incomplete measurements and sparse data. Introduction: Eye movement is one of the cues used in human--machine interface technologies for predicting the intention of users. The developing application in eye movement event detection is the creation of assistive technologies for paralyzed patients. However, developing an effective classifier is one of the main issues in eye movement event detection. Methods: In this paper, bidirectional long short-term memory (BILSTM) is proposed along with hyperparameter tuning for achieving effective eye movement event classification. The Lévy flight and interactive crossoverbased reptile search algorithm (LICRSA) is used for optimizing the hyperparameters of BILSTM. The issues related to overfitting are avoided by using fuzzy data augmentation (FDA), and a deep neural network, namely, VGG- 19, is used for extracting features from eye movements. Therefore, the optimization of hyperparameters using LICRSA enhances the classification of eye movement events using BILSTM. Results and Discussion: The proposed BILSTM--LICRSA is evaluated by using accuracy, precision, sensitivity, F1-score, area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) curve measure, and area under the precision--recall curve (AUPRC) measure for four datasets, namely, Lund2013, collected dataset, GazeBaseR, and UTMultiView. The gazeNet, human manual classification (HMC), and multi-source information-embedded approach (MSIEA) are used for comparison with the BILSTM--LICRSA. Background: As an important mathematical model, the finite state machine (FSM) has been used in many fields, such as manufacturing system, health care, and so on. This paper analyzes the current development status of FSMs. It is pointed out that the traditional methods are often inconvenient for analysis and design, or encounter high computational complexity problems when studying FSMs. Method: The deep Q-network (DQN) technique, which is a model-free optimization method, is introduced to solve the stabilization problem of probabilistic finite state machines (PFSMs). In order to better understand the technique, some preliminaries, including Markov decision process, o-greedy strategy, DQN, and so on, are recalled. Results: First, a necessary and suffcient stabilizability condition for PFSMs is derived. Next, the feedback stabilization problem of PFSMs is transformed into an optimization problem. Finally, by using the stabilizability condition and deep Q-network, an algorithm for solving the optimization problem (equivalently, computing a state feedback stabilizer) is provided. Discussion: Compared with the traditional Q learning, DQN avoids the limited capacity problem. So our method can deal with high-dimensional complex systems efficiently. Neonatal brain monitoring in the neonatal intensive care units (NICU) requires a continuous review of the spontaneous cortical activity, i.e., the electroencephalograph (EEG) background activity. This needs development of bedside methods for an automated assessment of the EEG background activity. In this paper, we present development of the key components of a neonatal EEG background classifier, starting from the visual background scoring to classifier design, and finally to possible bedside visualization of the classifier results. A dataset with 13,200 5-minute EEG epochs (8-- 16 channels) from 27 infants with birth asphyxia was used for classifier training after scoring by two independent experts. We tested three classifier designs based on 98 computational features, and their performance was assessed with respect to scoring system, pre- and post-processing of labels and outputs, choice of channels, and visualization in monitor displays. The optimal solution achieved an overall classification accuracy of 97% with a range across subjects of 81--100%. We identified a set of 23 features that make the classifier highly robust to the choice of channels and missing data due to artefact rejection. Our results showed that an automated bedside classifier of EEG background is achievable, and we publish the full classifier algorithm to allow further clinical replication and validation studies. Quantum Convolutional Neural Network (QCNN) has achieved significant success in solving various complex problems, such as quantum many-body physics and image recognition. In comparison to the classical Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model, the QCNN model requires excellent numerical performance or efficient computational resources to showcase its potential quantum advantages, particularly in classical data processing tasks. In this paper, we propose a computationally resource-efficient QCNN model referred to as RE-QCNN. Specifically, through a comprehensive analysis of the complexity associated with the forward and backward propagation processes in the quantum convolutional layer, our results demonstrate a significant reduction in computational resources required for this layer compared to the classical CNN model. Furthermore, our model is numerically benchmarked on recognizing images from the MNIST and Fashion-MNIST datasets, achieving high accuracy in these multi-class classification tasks. This article explores deep learning models in the field of malware detection in cyberspace, aiming to provide insights into their relevance and contributions. The primary objective of the study is to investigate the practical applications and effectiveness of deep learning models in detecting malware. By carefully analyzing the characteristics of malware samples, these models gain the ability to accurately categorize them into distinct families or types, enabling security researchers to swiftly identify and counter emerging threats. The PRISMA 2020 guidelines were used for paper selection and the time range of review study is January 2015 to Dec 2023. Night pedestrian detection with visible image only suffers from the dilemma of high miss rate due to poor illumination conditions. Cross-modality fusion can ameliorate this dilemma by providing complementary information to each other through infrared and visible images. In this paper, we propose a cross-modal fusion framework based on YOLOv5, which is aimed at addressing the challenges of night pedestrian detection under low-light conditions. The framework employs a dual-stream architecture that processes visible images and infrared images separately. Through the Cross-Modal Feature Rectification Module (CMFRM), visible and infrared features are finely tuned on a granular level, leveraging their spatial correlations to focus on complementary information and substantially reduce uncertainty and noise from different modalities. Additionally, we have introduced a two-stage Feature Fusion Module (FFM), with the first stage introducing a cross-attention mechanism for cross-modal global reasoning, and the second stage using a mixed channel embedding to produce enhanced feature outputs. Moreover, our method involves multidimensional interaction, not only correcting feature maps in terms of channel and spatial dimensions but also applying cross-attention at the sequence processing level, which is critical for the effective generalization of cross-modal feature combinations. Previous studies have successfully applied a lightweight recurrent neural network (RNN) called Echo State Network (ESN) for EEG-based emotion recognition. These studies use intrinsic plasticity (IP) and synaptic plasticity (SP) to tune the hidden reservoir layer of ESN, yet they require extra training procedures and are often computationally complex. Recent neuroscientific research reveals that the brain is modular, consisting of internally dense and externally sparse subnetworks. Furthermore, it has been proved that this modular topology facilitates information processing efficiency in both biological and artificial neural networks (ANNs). Motivated by these findings, we propose Modular Echo State Network (M-ESN), where the hidden layer of ESN is directly initialized to a more efficient modular structure. In this paper, we first describe our novel implementation method, which enables us to find the optimal module numbers, local and global connectivity. Then, the M-ESN is benchmarked on the DEAP dataset. Lastly, we explain why network modularity improves model performance. We demonstrate that modular organization leads to a more diverse distribution of node degrees, which increases network heterogeneity and subsequently improves classification accuracy. On the emotion arousal, valence, and stress/calm classification tasks, our M-ESN outperforms regular ESN by 5.44, 5.90, and 5.42%, respectively, while this difference when comparing with adaptation rules tuned ESNs are 0.77, 5.49, and 0.95%. Objective: For transradial amputees, robotic prosthetic hands promise to regain the capability to perform daily living activities. Current control methods based on physiological signals such as electromyography (EMG) are prone to yielding poor inference outcomes due to motion artifacts, muscle fatigue, and many more. Vision sensors are a major source of information about the environment state and can play a vital role in inferring feasible and intended gestures. However, visual evidence is also susceptible to its own artifacts, most often due to object occlusion, lighting changes, etc. Multimodal evidence fusion using physiological and vision sensor measurements is a natural approach due to the complementary strengths of these modalities. Methods: In this paper, we present a Bayesian evidence fusion framework for grasp intent inference using eye-view video, eye-gaze, and EMG from the forearm processed by neural network models. We analyze individual and fused performance as a function of time as the hand approaches the object to grasp it. For this purpose, we have also developed novel data processing and augmentation techniques to train neural network components. Results: Our results indicate that, on average, fusion improves the instantaneous upcoming grasp type classification accuracy while in the reaching phase by 13.66% and 14.8%, relative to EMG (81.64% non-fused) and visual evidence (80.5% non-fused) individually, resulting in an overall fusion accuracy of 95.3%. Conclusion: Our experimental data analyses demonstrate that EMG and visual evidence show complementary strengths, and as a consequence, fusion of multimodal evidence can outperform each individual evidence modality at any given time.
