Introduction: The field of Medicines Development faces a continuous need for educational evolution to match the interdisciplinary and global nature of the pharmaceutical industry. This paper discusses the outcomes of a 7-year collaboration between King's College London and the Global Medicines Development Professionals (GMDP) Academy, which aimed to address this need through a blended e-learning program. Methods: The collaboration developed a comprehensive curriculum based on the PharmaTrain syllabus, delivered through a combination of asynchronous and synchronous e-learning methods. The program targeted a diverse range of professionals serving in areas related to Medical Affairs. Results: Over seven annual cohorts, 682 participants from eighty-six countries were enrolled in the program. The program's effectiveness was assessed using Kirkpatrick's model, showing elevated levels of satisfaction (over 4.0 on a five-point scale), suggesting significant gains in competence at the cognitive level and leveraged performance. Notably, 70% of responding alumni reported significant improvement in their functions, corroborated by 30% of their supervisors. The further long-term impact of the program on their respective organization has not been established. Discussion: The GMDP Academy's program has significantly contributed to lifelong learning in Medicines Development, addressing educational gaps and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Its success highlights the importance of continuous education in keeping pace with the industry's evolving demands and underscores the potential of blended learning in achieving educational objectives in pharmaceutical medicine. Drawing on teacher interviews, written teacher reflections, teacher research proposals, and research papers, this study explored the outcome and process of teacher learning during their participation in a continuing professional development program. It has been found that the teachers changed their conceptions of research over the course of learning concerning the nature, purpose, and process of research and the relationship between teaching and research. Dialogic exchanges and reading research papers, along with the scaffolding of the teacher educator, enabled the teachers to validate their practices, link others’ perspectives up to their own, and re-situate research in light of their current practices. The findings provide insights into the nature of teachers’ conceptual change and how learning opportunities can be better built into continuing professional development programs. IntroductionHealthcare providers (HCPs) practicing in community settings are critical to improving access to pain care, yet there are significant gaps in training opportunities designed for interprofessional learners. Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (Project ECHO®) is an established model for delivering online HCP education through virtual clinics and cultivating a community of practice. However, to our knowledge, the integration of pain core competency education into the ECHO® model has not been previously attempted. This innovation could enhance the ECHO® model while also addressing the growing calls for more accessible interprofessional pain curricula. This paper describes efforts to implement and evaluate core competency curricula within the context of Pediatric Project ECHO for Pain, one of the first pediatric-pain focused ECHO programs in the world.MethodsNeeds assessments informed curricula development. The first delivered core competency model consisted of synchronous webinar-style sessions while the second model included a mixture of asynchronous (eLearning course) and synchronous (virtual clinical debrief) elements. A convenience sample of HCPs was recruited from ECHO program registrants. Participants completed baseline and follow-up surveys to assess core competency acceptability as well as impact on knowledge and self-efficacy related to managing pediatric pain. Usability of the eLearning platform (model 2 only) was also evaluated. Surveys used 5-point Likert scales to capture outcomes. A priori targets included mean scores ≥4/5 for acceptability and ≥80% of learners reporting knowledge and self-efficacy improvements. The study received local research ethics approval.ResultsThe core competency was found to be highly acceptable to interprofessional learners (n = 31) across delivery models, surpassing a priori targets. Specifically, it was characterized as a worthwhile and satisfactory experience that was helpful in supporting learning. The core competency was also associated with improvements in knowledge and self-efficacy by 97% and 90% of learners, respectively. The eLearning platform was reported to have high usability with clinically realistic cases (100% of respondents) that were helpful to inform care delivery (94% of respondents).ConclusionThe integration of core competency learning within the Project ECHO® model was a successful approach to deliver pediatric pain education to interprofessional HCPs.

Introduction: High rates of burnout, depression, anxiety, and insomnia in healthcare workers responding to the COVID-19 pandemic have been reported globally. Methods: Responding to the crisis, the Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) developed an e-learning course to support healthcare worker well-being and resilience. A self-paced, asynchronous learning model was used as the training intervention. Each module included practical, skill-building activities. An outcome evaluation was conducted to determine if completing the course improved healthcare worker knowledge of and confidence in the learning outcomes of the course, their use of resilience-building behaviours, their resilience, and their well-being. A secondary objective was to explore if there were any associations between behaviours, resilience, and well-being. Participants completed pre- and post-course questionnaires to measure knowledge of and confidence in the learning outcomes, y, frequency of self-reported resilience-building behaviours, and levels of resilience (CD-RISC) and well-being (WHO-5). Results were analysed in STATA using paired T -tests, univariate and multivariate linear regression models. Results: Participants (n = 474; 77.6% female; 55.7% primary care) exhibited significant increases in knowledge, confidence, resilience-building behaviour, resilience, and well-being scores. Statistically significant improvements in the frequency of resilience-building behaviours led to significant improvements in resilience (0.25 points; 95% CI: 0.06, 0.43) and well-being (0.21 points; 95% CI: 0.05, 0.36). Increasing changes in well-being scores had a positive effect on change in resilience scores (β = 0.20; 95% CI: 0.11, 0.29), and vice versa (β = 0.28; 95% CI: 0.14, 0.41). Conclusion: A healthcare worker e-learning course can build knowledge and skills that may prompt changes in resilience-building behaviours and improvements in well-being and resilience scores. The findings suggest that e-learning courses may improve more than competency-based outcomes alone but further research is warranted to further explore these relationships. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Teachers' continuing professional development (CPD) is a dynamic process that coordinates teachers' external behavior and internal states. Most teachers participate in varied forms of CPD activities either voluntarily or contractually. The more motivated teachers are to engage in CPD, the more likely they achieve professional and personal growth. Against this backdrop, the current study, adopting the framework of self-determination theory (SDT), sought to investigate the types and levels of Chinese college TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language, hereafter TEFL) teachers' motivation toward CPD. The questionnaire survey was administered to 402 academics who taught the English language in diverse universities in China. The quantitative analysis showed that teachers exhibited stronger identified regulation and intrinsic motivation than external regulation. Specifically, the exploratory factor analysis identified five motivational orientations: inner-directed academic improvement and cognitive interest, academic self-fulfillment and obligation, academic and social responsibility, social recognition and promotion, lacking the intention for CPD, which corresponded to the SDT motivation continuum. To triangulate, further interviews were conducted with 12 TEFL teachers. The findings of the qualitative analysis—the thematic analysis through Nvivo (Version 12) on the open-ended question and the interviews, revealed that teachers' struggles in CPD were mainly concerned with the school-related, CPD-related, and teacher-related problems. Moreover, a big gap between teachers' needs and contextual support was found to be bridged. Based on the findings, this study proposed that social conditions should support teachers' basic psychological needs in order to sustain and enhance TEFL teachers' motivation for CPD.
