This article aims to realize the brushless operation of a wound rotor vernier machine (WRVM) by a third-harmonic field produced through stator auxiliary winding (X). In the conventional model, a third-harmonic current is generated by connecting a 4-pole armature and 12-pole excitation windings serially with a three-phase diode rectifier to develop a pulsating field in the airgap of a machine. However, in the proposed model, the ABC winding is supplied by a three-phase current source inverter, whereas the auxiliary winding (X) carries no current due to an open circuit. The fundamental MMF component developed in the machine airgap creates a four-pole stator field, while the third-harmonic MMF induces the harmonic current in the specialized rotor harmonic winding. The rotor on the other side contains the harmonic and the field windings connected through a full-bridge rectifier. The electromagnetic interaction of the stator and rotor fields generates torque. Due to the open-circuited winding pattern, the proposed machine results in a low torque ripple. A 2D model is designed using JMAG-Designer, and 2D field element analysis (FEA) is carried out to determine the output torque and machine's efficiency. A comparative performance analysis of both the conventional and proposed topologies is discussed graphically. The quantitative analysis of the proposed topology shows better performance as compared to the recently developed third-harmonic-based brushless WRVM topology in terms of output torque and torque ripples. This paper offers a novel dual-mode double stator wound rotor synchronous machine for variable speed applications. The proposed motor integrates the benefits of both the traditional wound rotor synchronous machine (WRSM) and brushless wound rotor synchronous machine (BL-WRSM). A constant torque can be attained in the maximum torque per ampere region by operating the proposed machine as a traditional WRSM in Mode I, and a constant power can be attained in the field-weakening region by operating it as a BL-WRSM in Mode II. Moreover, due to the dual-stator structure, the proposed machine exhibits improved performance in terms of high torque density as compared to the existing single stator BL-WRSM. By using a special stator winding arrangement to achieve the sub-harmonic component of the stator magnetomotive force, the brushless operation of the proposed machine is achieved. The additional sub-harmonic component induces a voltage in the harmonic winding placed on the rotor, which is then rectified and provided a DC current to field winding for brushless excitation. A capacitor voltage offset suppression method based on reference voltage self-correction for a three-phase four-switch (TPFS) inverter-fed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system to improve motor control performance was proposed in [[7]]. Coronary heart disease is one of the major causes of deaths around the globe. Predicating a heart disease is one of the most challenging tasks in the field of clinical data analysis. Machine learning (ML) is useful in diagnostic assistance in terms of decision making and prediction on the basis of the data produced by healthcare sector globally. We have also perceived ML techniques employed in the medical field of disease prediction. In this regard, numerous research studies have been shown on heart disease prediction using an ML classifier. In this paper, we used eleven ML classifiers to identify key features, which improved the predictability of heart disease. To introduce the prediction model, various feature combinations and well-known classification algorithms were used. We achieved 95% accuracy with gradient boosted trees and multilayer perceptron in the heart disease prediction model. This paper suggests a method to improve the performances of the Dual Stator Axial Flux Spoke-type Permanent Magnet (DSAFSPM) machines with phase group concentrated coil (PGCC) windings, by incorporating continuous and discrete step-skewing along with a special winding connection. The purpose of the study is to mitigate the cogging torque and torque ripples while increasing the output torque so it ameliorates the machine performance at minimum cost for various applications such as wind power plants and electric vehicles (EVs). Cogging torque produces noise and vibrations which degrade the machine's performance and reduces its life span. The proposed winding sequence enhances the output torque by improving its distribution factor along with the use of continuous skew and step-skew magnets. This research work improved the cogging torque and torque ripples with the help of skew techniques while output torque is increased by the proposed winding sequence. Further harmonics and ripples are also mitigated by the proposed winding sequence. The overall machine volume is kept constant along with the magnet size and the design parameters for fair performance analysis. Comparative analysis of these machines is performed using three-dimensional (3-D) time-stepped finite element analysis (FEA). Proposed model I and proposed model II reduce the harmonics by 42% and 23%, respectively. By using continuous skew and discrete step-skew magnets, cogging torque is reduced up to 81.5% and 75%, respectively. This reduction in cogging torque reduces the noise and vibration in machines which assists the machines to perform a smooth operation. This paper presents a proposed model of a multi-stack slotted stator axial-flux type permanent magnet synchronous machine (AFPMSM) specifically for reducing torque ripple. The proposed AFPMSM model uses pentagon-shaped permanent magnets (PMs). It has a low value of cogging torque and torque ripples compared to the conventional model with a trapezoidal magnet shape. Additionally, it has increased internal generated voltage (Ef) as compared to the conventional model. To further enhance Ef phases and minimize cogging torque of the proposed model, the proposed AFPMSM model was optimized by varying different sides of PMs using a genetic algorithm (GA). A time-stepped three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis (FEA) was performed for the comparative analysis of conventional, proposed, and optimized AFPMSM models. From this comparative performance analysis, it is observed that torque ripples and cogging torque of the optimized AFPMSM are significantly decreased, while output average torque is appreciably increased. Distributed generation connected with AC, DC, or hybrid loads and energy storage systems is known as a microgrid. Campus microgrids are an important load type. A university campus microgrids, usually, contains distributed generation resources, energy storage, and electric vehicles. The main aim of the microgrid is to provide sustainable, economical energy, and a reliable system. The advanced energy management system (AEMS) provides a smooth energy flow to the microgrid. Over the last few years, many studies were carried out to review various aspects such as energy sustainability, demand response strategies, control systems, energy management systems with different types of optimization techniques that are used to optimize the microgrid system. In this paper, a comprehensive review of the energy management system of campus microgrids is presented. In this survey, the existing literature review of different objective functions, renewable energy resources and solution tools are also reviewed. This paper proposes a new scheme for a brushless wound rotor synchronous machine (WRSM) by generating an additional, two-pole component of magneto-motive force (MMF) with a series-connected additional three-phase winding with the armature three-phase winding. Unlike existing brushless excitation schemes, which use the inverter to inject harmonic currents in the stator windings, the proposed scheme uses series-connected additional winding on the stator with the armature winding in a two-pole configuration. Consequently, as the current flows in the armature winding, it creates a fundamental rotating air gap flux to interact with the field flux. At the same time, additional rotating flux is created from the additional three-phase winding, which cannot synchronize with the field winding. This additional flux can cause the induction of a voltage in a winding with exactly the same number of poles. For this purpose, a harmonic winding is installed in the rotor along with the field winding connected through a diode bridge rectifier, in order to feed the direct current (DC) to the field winding for rotor excitation without an input current from the brush-slip-ring assembly. Distributed generation (DG) resources integration into power system results in environmental and economic benefits. However, technical challenges may create many problems for the distribution system. Islanding detection is the topmost technical perspective regarding distribution system protection. This paper devised a passive islanding detection strategy that employed voltage phase angle (VPA). The VPA is selected after the performance assessment of 6 passive indices. Comparative study proves that VPA has the best accuracy and sensitivity compared to other indices parameters. The proposed technique is employed on a generic system that easily distinguished islanding situations from non-islanding cases such as load increment, load decrement, capacitor energization, capacitor de-energization, motor starting, motor unloading and various types of faults switching scenarios. The protective method is simple and has a quick interpretation algorithm as compared to other existing methods. Integration of renewable energy resources and conventional grids leads to an increase in power quality issues. These power quality issues require different standards to be followed for accurate measurement and monitoring of various parameters of the power system. Conventional power quality analyzers (PQAs) are programmed to a particular standard and cannot be reconfigured by the end user. Therefore, conventional PQAs cannot meet the challenges of a rapidly changing grid. In this regard, a Compact RIO-based (CRIO-based) PQA was proposed, that can be easily reprogrammed and cope with the challenges faced by conventional PQAs. The salient features of the proposed PQA are a high processing speed, interactive interface, and high-quality data-storage capacity. Moreover, unlike conventional PQAs, the proposed PQA can be monitored remotely via the internet. In this research, a hardware-in-loop (HIL) simulation is used for performing the power-quality assessment in a systematic manner. Power quality indices such as apparent power, power factor, harmonics, frequency disturbance, inrush current, voltage sag and voltage swell are considered for validating the performance of the proposed PQA against the Fluke's PQA 43-B. This paper proposes a novel brushless excitation topology for a three-phase synchronous machine based on a customary current-controlled voltage source inverter (VSI). The inverter employs a simple hysteresis-controller-based current control scheme that enables it to inject a three-phase armature current to the stator winding which contains a dc offset. This dc offset generates an additional air gap magneto-motive force (MMF). On the rotor side, an additional harmonic winding is mounted to harness the harmonic power from the air gap flux. Since a third harmonic flux is generated in this type of topology, the machine structure is also modified to accommodate the third harmonic rotor winding to have a voltage induced as the rotor rotates at synchronous speed. Specifically, four-pole armature and field winding patterns are used, whereas the harmonic winding is configured for a twelve-pole pattern. A diode rectifier is also mounted on the rotor between the harmonic and field windings. Therefore, the generated voltage on the harmonic winding feeds the current to the field winding for excitation. A 2D-finite element analysis (FEA) in JMAG-Designer was carried out for performance evaluation and verification of the topology. The simulation results are consistent with the proposed theory. This paper discusses the design and analysis of a high-harmonic injection-based field excitation scheme for the brushless operation of wound field synchronous machines (WFSMs) in order to achieve a higher efficiency. The proposed scheme involves two inverters. One of these inverters provides the three-phase fundamental-harmonic current to the armature winding, whereas the second inverter injects the single-phase high-harmonic i.e., 6th harmonic current in this case, to the neutral-point of the Y-connected armature winding. The injection of the high-harmonic current in the armature winding develops the high-harmonic magnetomotive force (MMF) in the air gap of the machine beside the fundamental. The high-harmonic MMF induces the harmonic current in the excitation winding of the rotor, whereas the fundamental MMF develops the main armature field. The harmonic current is rectified to inject the direct current (DC) into the main rotor field winding. The main armature and rotor fields, when interacting with each other, produce torque. Finite element analysis (FEA) is carried out in order to develop a 4-pole 24-slot machine and investigate it using a 6th harmonic current injection for the rotor field excitation to both attain a brushless operation and analyze its electromagnetic performance. Later on, the performance of the proposed topology is compared with the typical brushless WFSM topology employing the 3rd harmonic current injection-based field excitation scheme. This paper presents a new high-efficient three-phase brushless wound rotor synchronous machine (BL-WRSM) based on a sub-harmonic field excitation technique. In the proposed machine topology, the stator is equipped with two different three-phase windings: (1) main armature winding, and (2) additional armature winding. The main armature winding is based on a 4-pole winding configuration, whereas the additional armature winding is based on a 2-pole winding configuration. Both windings are supplied current from two different inverters, i.e., inverter-1, inverter-2, and simultaneously. Inverter-1 provides the regular input current to the main armature winding, whereas inverter-2 provides a three-phase current of low magnitude to the 2-pole additional armature winding. This generates an additional sub-harmonic component of MMF in the airgap beside the fundamental MMF. On the other side, the rotor is equipped with (1) harmonic, and (2) field windings. These windings are electrically coupled via a rectifier. The fundamental component of MMF produces the main rotating magnetic field, whereas the sub-harmonic MMF gets induced in the harmonic winding to produce harmonic current. This current is rectified to give DC to the rotor field winding to attain brushless operation. To authenticate the operation and analyze its performance, the proposed BL-WRSM topology is supported using 2-D finite element analysis (FEA) in JMAG-Designer. Later on, the performance of the proposed brushless topology is compared with the customary BL-WRSM topology to verify its high efficiency, high output torque, low torque ripple, and low unbalanced radial force on the rotor. In this paper, a hexagonal magnet shape is proposed to have an arc profile capable of reducing torque ripples resulting from cogging torque in a single-sided axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machine. The arc-shaped permanent magnet increases the air-gap length effectively and makes the flux of the air-gap more sinusoidal, which decreases air-gap flux density and hence causes a reduction in cogging torque. Cogging torque is the basic source of vibration, along with the noise in PM machines, since it is the main cause of torque ripples. Cogging torque is independent of the load current and is proportional to the air-gap flux and the reluctance variation. Three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) is used in the JMAG-Designer to analyze the performance of the conventional and proposed hexagonal-shaped PM AFPM machines. The proposed shape is designed to reduce cogging torque, and the voltage remains the same as compared to the conventional hexagonal-shaped PM machine. Further, optimization is performed by utilizing an asymmetric overhang. Latin hypercube sampling (LHS) is used to create samples, the kriging method is applied to approximate the model, and a genetic algorithm is applied to obtain the optimum parameters of the machine.
